lots of fun..
There should be a law against false advertising on DVD's. I rented this TURD called "Death 4 Told", last night. The cover art has none other than Tom Savini on it with the caption" From The Master Of Horror". This piece of shit is a four story anthology with horrible acting, terrible effects and NO scares. The aforementiond Tom Savini is in the last story for all about three minutes. Avoid at all cost....you have been warned.

That would be "Capricorn One" your thinking of. "The Final Countdown" is the movie about the aircraft carrier that goes back in time to Pearl Harbor.

It's not a martial arts film, although there are a few fight scenes. More of a comedy film, with the majority of the football action scenes done in a 'matrix' style.

Drumline was a decent movie...I wasnt expecting much though. The acting was OK for the most part, with 2 exception. Orlando Jones was much better than the rest of the cast...and the lead girl was awful. The band scenes were good, but god that Rap music that was playing in the background was terrible!

I was just forced to watch one of if not the worst movie ever made Glitter. The F'n dog in Lassie did a better acting job than Carrey, it was just terrible.
I'll put it this way...I'm sure most people here have seen Saw and Mariah Carrey makes Cary Elwes' preformance look like Brando.
Whoever produced this utter piece of shit should be ashamed of themselves.

i've got to tell you - we took our kid to it and he loved it, we hated it ..
it was visually brilliant but it had absolutely nothing to say ...
and since i cant stand robin williams ... i couldnt laugh at anything..
i was geared up (no pun intended) to really enjoy this one .. and was dissapointed ..
in this day and age fimmakers of kids movies are smarter than this .. they realize that if they are clever enough to mmake a movie that will appeal to adults and childern alike they will quadruple their take at the box office. (like shrek 1 & 2, the Toy Stories, Monsters Inc .. etc)
Robots and Sharks Tale both failed in this regard as far as i (and a hell of a lot of reviewers) see it

I saw Chronicles of Riddick a couple nights ago...wasn't bad.
Nice effects, pretty decent action and some interesting sets.
Used to death storyline (eg, various SF soul stealers, reavers...etc), but it was fairly watchable.
Very nice visual effects...seemed a tad predictable, but overall it wasn't bad.
VERY different from the first one though...which I still prefer.
And why'd they have to go making his eyes look all bright n shit in this one? The eyes in the first one were so much cooler.

"The Petrified Forest" - The weak link in the 'Warner Gangster Collection' box set and no mistake. here were so many better titles to add other than this.
Hardly a Gangster film at all, it's more akin to the Bogart flick "The Desperate Hours" about 'small fry hoods on the run'.
The problem is the amazingly stodgy first half hour (Bogart does not even appear and biy, does it hurt) where the (delightfully English) Leslie Howard's scenes with a very young Bette Davis are arse numbing in their twee tedium! On and on they waffle as Bette bugs out her eyes and flutters her lashes and Leslie sups on his pipe with measured civility.
Damn! Where the hell are the hoods when you need them?'
'Warner's' amazingly obvious, but cute, stage-bound outdoor set adds a nicely comfortable charm, but we REALLY , REALLY need Bogart to appear!
Evenmtually he does (over half an hour gone) and at last some real drama and atmosphere blasts out!!
With the balls out hard boiled attitude of Bogart waking the audience up!
The moral/psychological/sociological dialogue exchanges between Howard and Bogart are cliche of course, but they work well enough and the huge contrast between these two actors really works.
You could not get a more English actor as Leslie Howard (who would of course die in the approaching WWII) or a more American actor as Bogart. One hell of a strange combination but it's what makes the film work.
But damn!!! This sucker is so slow, marshy and annoyingly mannered for the first 35 minutes or so (and now and again later on as well). It's the one title in the box set that has really dated.
Thankfully all the other titles are much, MUCH better...but there were so many other 'Warner' gangster classic to replace this with in the box set.
GREAT DVD presentation though., and for fans of Bogart there are some great moments to be had, but it's a case of the parts being better than the whole.

As promised:
Outlaw Josey Wales: A pretty good movie, but not as good as the other Eastwood western's Ive seen. Still, very enjoyable.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest: This blew me away. Some parts were hilarious, others were disturbing [Esp. the ending]. One of the best movies Ive ever seen
Dog Day Afternoon: Pacino was great as always. Some great laughs, and a partially surprising ending.
Street Fighter: Damn I love this movie. Sure, the actors [Raul Julia being the only exception] are awful, the plot is nowhere near faithful to the games...but hell, I love this movie:)

Sounds like some might be feeling the same boredom with this influx of Oriental stuff as me.
How come nobody ever seems to have a bad word to say about anything with subtitles, particularly if it comes from the Far East?
Don't get me wrong, I like Takashi Miike and the Pang Bros. stuff (kinetic, extreme, sometimes very funny) and I'm a sucker for the harsher ends of the Jap torture series and 90's CAT III shockers... but recently these "mystery horror" movies are beginning to all look the same and the novelty value is gone.
I would say people view foreign films through rose-tinted specs sometimes, and consider that because they are intelligent enough to sit through the subtitles and "get" the foreign-ness of it all this gives the movie plus-points that an identical, English-language film wouldn't earn.
How do we know these Japanese/HK actors are not actually wooden as fuck soap-opera quality unless we understand the language they're speaking?
Perhaps it's the subtitle translators who are the unsung heroes of it all...

almost any one of these films - on their own - would be good viewing, and a welcome change from the american same old ..
in the similar vein as how cool friday the 13th was when we first saw it .. but as each progressive slasher used the same old bullshit as the last - it gets tired fast....and this is whats happening with these eastern horror/mysteries.
I enjoy foreign films as a rule because they give me a break from the usual crap - a fresh outlook or style.
The Hong Kong crime thrillers, the french new wave dramas..,
and within North America .. the young black filmmakers had a unique fresh approach (until it became the norm)
its interesting to see that the east are as guilty as the west when it comes to riding the wave of a good thing until its beaten to death.
I have also wondered about the question of the quality of the acting - are we blissfully unaware and everything sounds stellar because we wouldnt know the difference ..
i guess there's something to be said about that .. if we dont know if its bad or not .. then it sure isnt hurting us that way.
hey, it was a promising start - here's hoping they can use their skill as filmakers in some more innovative directions.

The only drawback for me with movies w/sub-titles is my eyesight, (happens when you get old). I usually watch them on my laptop so it's much closer. As far as good vs bad, everybody makes s**t, but there may be cultural diffrences at play that aren't as obvious to others in the USA or outside of the country the film orginates from.

thats what i was wondering at first ...
I figured a dead girl looking for revenge must be a popular theme culturally .. but then i see the same thing in the Korean films ..
I know there is some simularity in the japanese and korean cultures .. they seem to be compatable ... but then i see Stutter.. a Thai film ...
I dont think all eastern countries are that culturally simular are they ? maybe so, i dont know ...
but its not just the girl with wet hair, freaky looking, crazy moving limbs akimbo visual .. there are other devices being used and reused.
the ghost is visible in reflections one second (mirrors/windows) and then they dissapear .. only to appear visually seconds later ..
This is in every single film !
They can be captured on film or security cameras ...
The funny thing is that most of these things the intended victim is completely unaware of .. its for the viewers benefit only. So the ghosts are fucking with us the audience ??
I understand that the filmmaker is making us jump and yell for fun .. but after the 4th or 5th movie doing the same damn thing its wearing thin ..
and thats not a cultural thing ...

Some of the earliest Horror "films" originated from countries outside of the US, i.e. Germany, France. Therefore, we have never had a lock on the Horror franchise here in the US. Stories of Ghosts, Vampires, Zombies, and other monsters exist in all cultures, despite all their similarities each society deals with the legend(s) in a unique way. Of course we as Americans, (you know how we are) have to do things in a grand scale, cranking out one movie after another. I find that with foreign films, a lot of the violence is implied, not all mind you, Fulci is a good example. While we here in the States like the Bucket-O-Blood, show me the gore, or exploitation style. I also find that nudity is treated differently in a lot of foreign films, films from India have women with none, no bare bellies or much else. While naked co-eds or gratuitous sex scenes are almost a standard in many US horror flicks.

i have a question got you re the Ju-On series ..
I have part one and two ... but i also have one that looks liek it was shot on video .. like a TV show ... I dont know what the hell it is because there is no english.
it starts out with a young couple in an apartment.
here's the kicker ... in this version you saw the girl with her face ripped half off .. but i dont remember seeing it in the 'theatrical Jo-On'
was it origionally made for TV ?

man what a confusing mess ... thats the thing about the dodgy asian titles .. you cant depend on what the cover says - and the subtitles are usually pretty messed up - if they exist ...

I'm geting confused myself here....lol
(2000) Ju-On 1 aka Ju-On: The Curse straight to video. (this is the one with the jaw ripped off)
(2000) Ju-On 2 aka Ju-On: The Curse 2 straight to video.
(2002) Ju-On 3 aka Ju-On 1 aka Ju-On: The Grudge theatrical version.
(2003) Ju-On 4 aka Ju-0n 2 aka Ju-on: The Grudge 2 theatrical version.
The two Grudge versions were re-filmed versions of the two Curse ones...afaik, as they were to get a theatre release.
I have subtitle files for all 4 films, in .srt format, so not sure whether they'd be any good, or work for you urge.

the first 20 minutes or so the film goes hell for leather to establish that every bloke on the trip is a bastard and every woman a bitch then the rest of the flick trying to get the audience to empathize with the bitches and bastards and the hope that they escape the snake...........

found it okish, I think the film was too long, since most of it was just them.....those two girls all the time, with loads of faffing around. Wasn't much other character development.

lol they could've done some thing a bit more, with the ones already in it.
the first scene where the camera pans over the house tops with the electricity pylons and stuff... for a minute I thought the film was starting off somewhere in the Uk, looked like places in England.
