Dark Fields. Do yourself a favor, just smack yourself in the middle of the forehead with a mallet. You'll thank me. Only made it through 25 mins. The single worst acted, most inane, not even funny/bad piece of garbage ever. 1/10

Pulse-Japanese Version - I liked it and got all of the subtext, but very weak ending. Not to mention they do the traditional "we figured it out, here's what's happening" thing, but it's not what's happening. A few creepy moments and one of the best ghost sequences ever (lady in the black dress with the couch). The Hiroshima/Nagasaki undercurrent was interesting, as well.
7/10

Burkittsville 7 - I had never seen this one before and I gotta say, I thought it was brilliantly done. I actually had to remind myself it was all crap while I was watching it. For a companion piece/come on for Blair Witch, I thought it was better than the movie (which I, unpopularly usually, actually liked).
9/10

Midnight Cowboy (1969)

Everytime I see it I fall in love with it all over again. A truly beautiful, brutally realistic, amazingly compassionate film.

And, might I add, it was casted perfectly. Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight are impeccable.

I watched Blow, which I enjoyed but I got bored after about half of it.

I've finally been getting around to catching up on the MoH series.

Cigarette Burns - I absolutely loved this. The idea of the holy grail of horror films is just cool as all get out. Course, I loved The Ninth Gate for the same reason. Maybe not the greatest movie ever, but the story got me.

Dreams in the Witch House - Lovecraft must be spinning in his grave faster than a pig on a rotisierrie being cranked by BoBo the Crackhead. I've seen things scarier (and more realistic) on the Muppets.

First viewing. Pretty well done...in fact, I preferred the boxing action to the recent Rocky film. Great musical score, very solid acting all 'round...'cept maybe for the hick guy, he seemed a bit overdone. Kinda hard to watch during some scenes at the end...Hillary Swank really did well in this one I thought, I don't usually consider her to be noteworthy whatsoever...A good watch

The Dark - Great acting, beautiful scenery and cinematography, great idea, slightly weak script, and the ending...arggh! If you watch it, just pretend the last minute doesn't exist and you'll be happier in the long run. Reminded me of Silent Hill. Totally different film, but the mother rescuer, the dark/light worlds, and religious psychos all touched the other.

Rocky Balboa 7.5/10

Am I a complete moron or was this a pretty entertaining flick? I've seen all the Rocky movies, always hoping there will be some carryover from the sensation I had watching the original in the theater when I was 6 years old. The nostalgia factor worked like a charm on me, so I must be getting old.

Sly's directing was excellent up until the fight sequence, where he substituted fast cuts and silly variations in color and grain in a ham-fisted attempt to add a "youthful vitality" to the typical Rocky fight. It came across as an old man's half-baked (and failed) effort to contemporize a film that didn't need it.

I'd rank it 2nd overall in the series.

This was a very good film. In my opinion, it might be Christian Bale's best yet. Hugh Jackman is good too. The story is very interesting and the acting is good. Christopher Nolan is rapidly becoming one of my favorite directors. There's no gore, but the story is still quite dark. All in all, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Watched Dust Devil for thev first time a couple days back...fantastic movie. In fact, I watched it again yesterday.

Today I watched Voice of the Moon which was a pretty decent little documentary. No dialogue/narration, but the score was great and the images were (at times) really powerful.

Films I have watched in the past 2 days:

Fear of the Dark: Fell asleep while watching this one. Maybe a good idea behind it. The individual fears where interesting. Over all not scary and predictable.

Jack Frost: HAHAHAHA this film was funny. The comments that Jack Frost made where just silly. The plot laughable. However I will never turn my back on a snowman again lol.

Candyman: Out of all these films this was the best and I think I acctually enjoyed this film. It was a decent watch and a good wee story.

Non-horror: Just friends, boring lol. Watched this due to the rest of the audience being non horror fans. Had an odd moment where a smile escaped my lips but all in all standard guy gets girl film.

you watch a ridiculous amount of movies. my guess is you are either unmarried or are one of the lucky ones that has a partner who's into horror as much as you are. either way i'm very, very jealous. lol

I have a lot of free time on my hands, that's why I usually watch so many.

Dark Ride

It was interesting, and a little bit goofy. This movie pissed me off so bad, because this setting is one of my favorites for a horror film! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't BAD or anything, but it had so much unfulfilled potential! It needed to be different, the buildup was great, and the atmosphere was really scary, but, it didn't work out right. The killer should have waited in position in parts of the ride and slashed them when they walked by or something. My main problem was that it showed what the killer was doing a lot, and that made it almost negative scary, because this one should have been based on fear, not as much what the killer was doing. All in all it was ok, but it was not *to die for*

REPOST FOR ACCURACY...Just in case anyone missed itthe fulci movie? i was just talking about that. any good?I just about went crazy trying to purchase a copy of this one, it was difficult to find but I wanted it really badly...We finally got it...It was disappointing...

I'll admit that my expectations were probably too high by that point, though

EDIT:...I was talking about City Of The WALKING Dead (AKA Nightmare City) here, which is Lenzi, not Fulci...Fulci's City Of The LIVING Dead is AKA Gates Of Hell, which we love...Sorry for the confusion...I REALLY need to start sleepingI hope I cleared that up...I'm feeling quite a bit like a zombie lately...and NOT a Fulci or Lenzi zombie either...A very slow, lazy, brain dead, early Romero zombie...lol

Being stuck home sick can sometimes rock! In the last few days I've watched some old faves

Dead and Breakfast
Cemetery Man
The Prophecy
The Gate
Ghoulies
Gremlins

and some newer ones

Memories of Murder (great movie, but slow for the real gore types)
After Midnight (really, really dated and not terribly good)
Art of the Devil (worst dubbing ever)

Got another day on the couch coming up.

Eddie and the Cruisers
Very shoestring plot with a lot of musical sections making up most of the film. You could condense this movie into 3 minutes, but it would loose it's distinct feel. Great music, interesting movie.

Dark Ride
Wasted potential. Bits of it reminded me of a second-grade Ho1000C - but that might have been due to the heavy blue and red shades used in a majority of the scenes.

Fucking horrible. There wasn't a single likable character, logic was completely ignored and it may be the single most insulting depiction of our fighting mena and women I've ever seen. Sure they're the National Guard, butthese days that means you need to be ready for war, and if our troops were this retarded, we'd have been overrun decades ago.

That said, there was some pretty good gore and bonus points for the opening sequence...

************SPOILER*****************

squirm-worthy child delivery scene complete with baby erupting from a prosthetic vagina... totally tasteless, it made me giggle a little and gave me false hope for a total gorefest.

So good gore plus shitty story and STUPID CHARACTERS =

Hot Fuzz.
While I won't be rushing out to buy this quite as quickly as I did Shaun of the Dead (had the UK dvd prior to the films release here...ha) This one, I will be adding to my collection. As per usual, the two leads work pretty well together.
The comedy ranges from subtle to over the top, reverse references aplenty...the action sequences are actually quite impressive too. You hadda love Timothy Dalton too.
Some good/fun twists, and the same cross-genre success rather than failure.
Not short of splatter.
The only reason I say I didn't like this quite as much as Shaun is because that film set the bar so damn high...
Was the sound turned up stupidly high in anyone elses cinema for this?

Overall very good.

Yet another good horror story wasted...

This was one of the few horror movies this year i was looking forward to the most. :(

One thing that really pisses me of:

Why is it that most Directors/make-up artists think it's good enough to color the actors faces grey to make them look like zombies???

Why do horrorfans like zombie movies? Isn't it pretty much because of the zombies?

I mean, why bother making a zombie movie if you don't even have some decent-good-awsome make-up effects, no matter how good a script you've got?

Conclusion: Without good make-up effects you can't make a good zombie movie. Only bad/lame/laughable ones.

Sadly enough, not many directors has gotten that into their thick sculls yet and probably never will. I guess they don't find the horror audience to be very picky. Or maybe they just don't know their audience very well, or maybe they just don't give a shit... SCREW THEM ALL TO HELL!!!!

This was a little slow moving, but not bad. I think I prefered Hostel, but not by much as they were basically about the same to me. The acting was decent, the gore was decent, the story was unoriginal because Hostel beat 'em to it.

B-

Rocky Balboa

Well, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but then again it wasn't as good as Rocky 1,2,3 or 4 either. I'd put it right about on par with Rocky 5, which is a cut below the rest of the franchise. It's still an entertaing film, but not something I'd run around recommending to everyone I come in contact with.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter

This was a good concept executed on little to no budget. The plot was kinda chaotic & nonsensical, the gore suffered badly from the lack of budget and some of the actors were terrible, but there were a few moments here and there that were pretty funny & I thought the actor that played Jesus actually did a pretty good job. When using religion as a theme, it'd be very easy to cross lines and become simply offensive and/or blasphemous, but I think this film played that aspect of things alright. I don't think it would offend too many people, other than the ones that are offended simply by the film's existence in the first place. I didn't really notice anything sacreligious or anything.

In all, it's about what I expected, which is a cheesy, low budget vampire flick. Not horrible, but not good either.

Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film

This was a really cool documentary on the slasher sub-genre. Tons of great interview footage with very respectable horror icons like John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Tom Savini, Rob Zombie, etc plus a lot of clips of cool death scenes (many from the mid 80s). There's lots of useless but interesting information about many of our low budget favorites like Savini explaining in detail how he did some of the gorier deaths in some of the Friday the 13th movies. One interesting piece of info I picked up that I did not know was that when they were making Halloween, they could only afford Donald Pleasence for 3 days of shooting so ALL of his scenes in the first Halloween movie were filmed in 3 days time.

This film basically tracks the slasher genre from Psycho & Peeping Tom through Halloween & Friday the 13th to Nightmare on Elm Street then Scream to the modern day equivelants of films like Hostel, Wolf Creek & Saw.

This should be considered a must see documentary for anyone that considers themself anything more than a casual horror fan.

In comparison with what everyone likes and lists on their 'top 10' list here, he seems to fit in fine... while I stand out far worse then he does. I share the same type of interests in movies as Posher does, to an extent. I enjoy Kill Bill vol. 1 and vol. 2 to a 10/10 or higher basis, and while I wouldn't rate John Tucker Must Die a solid 10, it'd get an 8 in my books because it's fucking enjoyable. You need a movie like this once in a while, and it's something you can watch over and over again. People need to learn exactly what opinions are. There isn't one style of 'taste' superior to anothers, so stop acting like it.

Thanks Josh. Good to know that there are some people not wanting my head on a stick.

I hope we're allowed to discuss this here?

To Posher:
If everything turns out fine with it, then sure, it wouldn't be a problem. There is no DVD (although a UK "special edition" is on ebay... but it's sketchy, and goes for over 50$) and the VHS is out of print (duh). I say "if everything turns out fine" because we are currently experiencing a snow storm (IN APRIL!!!) and the signal is pretty weak. By midnight tonight (9 hours) it should be all cleared up (hopefully), though.

Keep in mind that it won't be pure DVD quality as SCREAM is a DSR channel and does not broadcast in HD. It will also be in fullscreen and have a logo in the bottom corner (well, at least I expect... although they do air a buttload of movies in WS as well... in which case there would be no logo on the picture). After capture I can send you a few screens if you'd like to see how it turned out.

This is my recording capabilities. If this means anything to you.
I can master it to DVD with higher settings, but the result won't be leaps and bounds better.

I dont think bashing Posh for his movie choices is correct. Each person is entitled to his/her own opinions about a certain movie. For e.g., if I like The Descent and thought it was an awesome movie, there are bound to be other people who were totally bored by it too. That doesnt mean I hammer my view of that movie into them, or ignore them for that. To each their own, and I think Posh's choices and likes are good enough. Most of his top 10 movies would be in the Top 10 of many other people too.

And getting back to the thread, I just finished watching Invaders from Mars. Popping in From Dusk Till Dawn 3 now.

This was pretty bad ass! I really loved the original, the 2nd one was a step down, but this one is right back up there. Good acting, really interesting storyline, cool kills, and a sweet ending. If anyone hasn't checked out this Cube franchise yet, I highly recommend it.

The Dead Next Door

For a film that was made on little to no budget at all, this was pretty well done. The acting was okay, the story was decent, the script was average. There were some moments of humor and some scenes of really good low budget gore. I also like the references to other low-budget horror greats like having a couple characters named Raimi & Savini, a Romero shout-out graffitied on a wall and Evil Dead playing the background of one of the scenes.

All in all, I was entertained. By no means, is this a great film, but for the scant budget they were on, it's pretty good.

Would be 10, but the first few bits were really slow and boring (restaurant, hooker lady, etc) But it got awesome. Paul Walker was great, but I think the wife did the best job, especially that one scene... (porn house)

Highly recommended, however...

^ I LOVE Running Scared, and I'm the only one on the forum who agress with that statement. Why? It's referencing the VIOLENCE in each movie - the level of violence. Kill Bill is all crazy over the top with violence, but it's done in a stylistic way. Runing Scared has a good amount of violence and controversial topics, but they are presented in such a way that one has to take it seriously. Kill Bill was fun, this is disturbing.

Slither (2006)

Part alien-apocolypse, part slimy creature horror, part comedy...with good, solid acting and a lot of fun gore to kick. Some of the scenes were laugh-out-loud funny, as well.

This and The Descent are the only two things horror that are worth anyone's time this decade. And Feast.

STarted watching "the covenant".
Great effects, but the characters made you give so little a shit that turning it off was inevitable. I may tolerate it on tv one day, I dunno.

Now, we saw a GOOD film last night too. Crazy.
Vince Cassel, and relative unknowns...
French film with a kinda TCM/Hostel type vibe called "SHEITAN".
I expected it to be total shit, but it was actually quite atmospheric.
So yeah if you're into the whole "crazy inbred family' shit, and
seeing things that just make you thing "ssssick", you'll probably
get a kick out of this. Plenty of weird, a strange twist, and one of
those "fuuuuck" endings...

^ Y'see... I'm pissed. Rumours of how they are going to treat the DVD have spread around the net in various forms. It seems like they are going for "remastered" versions of these films, seperated from each other.

I'm 17. Literally 3 months away from turning 18. I cannot see this film the way it was meant to be, in a theatre, because society says no. Possibly one of the greatest theatre experiences and I'm going to miss it. Piss off!

I'm hoping they release audience tracks for these films... it's part of the fun, is it not? RR did it with Sin City, and it seems even more appropriate here. Then I will at least have some redemption. :( Oh well, I'll still love them.

DEATH PROOF looks amazing. I watched the SPIKE TV behind-the-scenes and damn... the several minutes of what they showed looked brilliant. Quentin is a masterpiece at dialogue.

I don't know about the "too-real" vision. But it sure was original.

1 thing that bugged me though was Clive Owen's lack of capability to pick up a riffle/gun/etc. and become a protector enstead of just a transporter.
