First time at the IMAX.
The film was good, can't say I'll rush out to buy it though.
I don't think I'll be seeing another feature film at IMAX though, or movie anyway yknow? Seemed too big.. I imagine the 3d doco stuff is pretty cool on them, but for movies? not for me.

Art School Confidential

This one has a slasher backstory, and one that ends up being an ironic center of the major plotline. I enjoyed it. Zwigoff seems talented as a director, but some may be put off by his artistic style. I'm watching his fan-favourite next, Ghost World.

Ghost World
Loved it. Goes on my list of 'favourite movies'. I could indentify with a multitude of scenes in this movie, more then any other I've watched in the past - and the emotions were portrayed exactly like I had felt them. Art is a theme in Zwigoff's films, aren't they? Hm, he's a director I should watch out for.

I went and saw Grindhouse, and holy SHIT it's awesome!!!! I haven't enjoyed a movie like that in a really long time....it's actually two full length movies, and runs over three hours. It's SOOO worth the extra time, though. The first story was my favorite, it's a great zombie spoof that made me laugh a good bit. The second story dragged a bit in the middle, but Kurt Russell makes up for it. I love that man:D
There are also awesome fake trailers in the movie that I loved.
I saw the preview for the new Halloween movie, and it looks like it could be good. I'll give it a chance, for sure. The new Pirates of the Carribean looks pretty good too.
Yay.

i dont understand the end. where did they all go on that boat? can someone explain it?

I'm not 100%...I'm sure there's plenty of total geeks that could find 100 things wrong with my explanation, but here goes.
I think that the elves, and some of their more "mystic" friends no longer wanted to be part of "mans world" after what the events of the three books/films cost them, and they decided it'd be best if they went off to their yknow...either "heaven" or...world that's not quite on the same plane of reality, where they could live as immortals (free of the wars of man I guess they thought would happen time and again) and turn into legends told by men from that day forth...

The men stayed, so did the hobbits - I take it we just call those midgets nowadays, hm?

Oh, I also just finished watching "the prestige".
Interesting film, all parts acted quite well, nice score, good atmosphere.
Strage lil' mystery film with certain twists you'll either "get", or not.

Demons-
Hadn't watched this for a couple of years but I have always found it enjoyable, bad acting, dodgy effects, some hilarious dubbing, one huge plot convenience,a cheesy soundtrack and some rather ugly actors somehow combine together and make one hugely entertaining movie! I love it 8/10 !

Office Space-
first time I had seen this and I really have been missing something.Great fun throughout, great comedic performances from the leading players but I think the supporting characters really were outstanding and stole the show.9/10.

I havent been here in a while, so the list of movies I have seen since last time is pretty long:
Curious George: Good for a kids movie

North Country: Good

Running Scared: Paul Walker. EXCELENT, very surprising that the pretty boy from the fast and the furious could make such a good movie, but I loved it.

11:14. The movie was basically a build up to a great climax, without the climax, so it was good until it ended 15 minutes early.

Over the Hedge. Mediocre, some of it was excellent, some not so good. I love Hammy, steve carrel is a genius.

Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremecy: Great overall action movies. Liked them both a lot.

300: Never has testosterone fueled violence been so visually stunning. It was a beautiful movie, I thought the acting was good enough, and expected it to be overdone, so it had no unpleasant surprises to me. I LOVED it more than anything i have seen in a long time.

Last film I watched was Torque. A bit too much of the adrenalin testosterone stuff, it clearly shows that its inspired heavily from the Fast and the Furious films. Further, the racing on the streets and the highways doesnt work with the motorcycles as it does with the cars. There is one unbelievable chase involving a train though, the only highlight of the entire film.

Yes there are 3 sequels to the original Pumpkinhead :-

Pt. 2 is named Blood Wings('94),
Pt. 3 is Ashes to Ashes (2006, with Lance Henriksen reprising his role from the original),
and Pt. 4 is Blood Feud. (direct to video release, with Lance Henriksen in same but smaller role)

Well... This was better than I was expecting which pretty much equates to mildly entertaining here. The plot and a lot of the FX were in the "So bad it's funny" range, but some of the acting was in the "So bad it just sucks" range. They compensate for the terrible acting we must endure with an abundance of naked boobies though so that evens things out a bit. In all, I was entertained but it's not something I'd recommend to anyone except fans of low brow, low budget zombie films.

Planet Terror (2007)
Fun, fun, fun. Hot chicks, guns, zombies, and BBQ...what more could one want in a movie?! I loved this one...Rodriguez exceeded my expectations.

Deathproof (2007)
More serious in tone, and a bit of a slow start, but once it got movin', it rolled. It was Faster Pussycat...Kill, Kill! on speed. The only thing I can complain about here is that Tarintino's signature dialogue was so strong and abundant in the first half that it almost became a self-parody, and bordered on redundant.

Rodriguez captured the style of grindhouse cinema, Tarintino captured the themes. Together they supplied one of the most entertaining nights at the movies I've ever had.

We have finally reached the point with CGI movies that they are pretty much the same as every other type, some good, some okay, some crappy. With Pixar and dreamworks not being the only kids on the playground, cgi movie quality is taking a beating.

Yeah...it's the Japanese version, and I don't understand what anyone is saying but I can more or less figure things out, as long as I know that this is the brother and this is the sister and that's the employer....

The Japanese cut is very different from the American version that Universal released.

Psycho 3

I swear I don't think there's ANYTHING that anyone could do to Psycho would make me love it any less

I have the original, the remake, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4...The guy in the remake is kinda weird, NOT 'Norman Bates weird', but he still did a pretty good job, I wanted to dislike that one because it wasn't Anthony Perkins (and I can't stand Anne Heche), but I just couldn't

@ V...Pitch Black gets a lotta shit, but I don't know why...I've always thought it was a really good movie

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

If at all, the first 30-odd minutes were a tad slow after they crash, but after then everything runs at a swift pace once the first guy gets grabbed. And some of the visuals are absolutely breathtaking, like the Saturn-esque planet emerging on the horizon and eclipsing the suns, and then the creatures coming out...that has got to be one of the best visuals in cinema-making CGI history.

The cinematography done in near-dark conditions is brilliant and adds to the tense and creepy atmosphere. Like Posh pointed out, the movie does have a number of high points, and I am surprised at anyone who chooses to bash Pitch Black.

Regarding Chronicles of Riddick, I thought it was decent. Maybe people wanted it to be Pitch Black II, and got a Conan-in-Space type of movie, thats why it didnt go down too well with them. I think it was a worthy successor, with a touch of class added to it.

For those who choose to bash Chronicles, I have a suggestion. Rent Riddick: Dark Fury (yea the animated one). You ll have a better perspective of the movie series, and appreciate Chronicles more.

Yes the game is kickass. The visuals and the storyline of the game is awesome. And Riddick does have some really fine moves too.

Those who dont have XBoxes need to at least watch all 3 movies of Riddick. Watch em independent of the other and think they share the same character, and you ll know what I mean.

Yeah I was forced to watch this load of crap too. Hubby complains that all I watch is horror and he wants to pick the movie - and comes home with this dog. Hellboy- This is one fantastic movie... It astounds me every time. It has flaws and stuff, but the story holds, and is really good and freaky, the action is awesome, it has the coolest weapon ever (see new thread in gen.) and pretty nice acting. Amazing special effects too!

9/10

Van Helsing- This is another great one...... with big problems. Great movie, 2 1/2 great actors, amazing story ( I thought it was well put together) great action of course, and a repeater. So what's the problem you ask?

dialogue. fuck! It's absolutely MISERABLE to listen to! Just watch it in a foreign language so you won't understand it, because it's TERRIBLE. Stupid lines, and pointless yammering on (frankenstein's stupid creation), whatever. That's the lowest point. On the same side, there's a lot of bad acting... The frankenstein guy did the single most hateable acting i've ever experienced, and dracula's stupid brides are friggin obnoxious and squeal a lot. Dracula, on the other hand, is the 1/2 mentioned earlier. I think he either did a very good job, or a terrible job. He wasn't all that bad, and he has a good "dracula" look to him. I think the dialogue just brought them all down, even kate and hugh a bit. The main bride had ONE line where she looked convincing, and that was when she said "and I say you can go when you're DEAD!" <decent. The cgi is terrible, but it was pretty low budget I suppose, but it is just another mindless action flick.

Don't watch this expecting a masterpiece, watch it for the kick ass factor.

I saw The Messengers the other day. It was only $2, which is about what it was worth. It had a few scary parts, but totally missed the point of the Asian horror films that it was so clearly derived from (that the horror you get drawn into frequently has nothing to do with you, that the initial revenge that spawns the horror is long over, etc).

Chaos, by Hideo Nakata, was much better. A twisty crime thriller.

Also saw the 1981 crime movie Body Heat last night. William Hurt, Kathleen Turner, Lawrence Kasdan writing and directing. If you like crime movies, this is a great one.

Dont bother much about the sequel though, Des & BR. Apart from some 1-2 scenes of slight gore, there's nothing much in it, story-wise or action-wise. A very disappointing sequel to a really promising and potential original. Thanks for that info...I read the description of the movie (part 2) as I was about to purchase it...It's description sounded pretty bad, it seemed like it would be more of an action-type movie than horror...So, I appreciate your confirmation :)...I'm gonna pass on that one

Just watched Cameron's Closet...Didn't love it...Didn't hate it...Glad I watched it...It was alright

OH...and...I've owned 4th Floor for years...I really like that one...It seems that not many people have seen it...I bought it at the same time I bought Office Killer...I LOVE Office Killer :)

You are most welcome. I know your love for the bad movies, but this one is so bad its terrible. Just dont waste your money.

Buy some Troma giftpack for that same money. Class of Nuke Em High trilogy, maybe? ;)

Had my own little Grindhouse over the weekend.I was going to go with 70s movies but my guest weren't hip enough for that.

Instead we watched "Smoking Aces" [I enjoyed this much but thought they tried too hard for a twist ending]...followed by trailers I downloaded from you tube [ Machete,Thanksgiving,Don't from Grindhouse and some real ones, The Thing With Two Heads,Deadly Weapons [ Chesty Morgan using her GIANT boobs as a weapon], followed by a 10 minute intermission reel from the 70s, then on to "Devil's Rejects" for the last movie.

I think I remember seeing this when it first came out at the drive-in. I don't know if I would spend any money on it.....just watch the trailer....that should do it.

I really like the wrap-around anthologies, but this one wasn't as good as I thought it was gonna be, and I honestly wasn't expecting much...It was pretty cheesy...But, it was worth watching at least once :)

Roman
Lucky McKee writes and stars, but is directed by his long-time collaborator Angela Bettis in this odd, but thoroughly engrossing tale of obsessive love and murder. The extremely low-budget, DV look perfectly compliments the stark tale and Bettis' direction is sure-handed and cool. A perfect companion piece to May. And if you didn't like May, you'll probably hate Roman, but I really enjoyed it.

The animated HEAVY METAL film.
I'm a comic reader, and have never once checked out the title, so I dunno how the film rates...but, from my perspective, it was pretty cool. Nice range of animation styles, very very good soundtrack. The stories maintained the interest, funny stuff, gruesome stuff...weird stuff. It seemed that for it's year it was pretty ahead of its time, can't believe this shit was around on the year I was born...
So yeah, after never being particularly inclined to check this out a friend lent his copy to me, insisting it was wortha look. Yup, I reckon it was.

August Underground's Penance (2007)

Disturbing, brutal and ugly film. The characters feel realistic, and it presents the violence in a very dirty, ugly and unglamorous fashion. Definately one to make you feel bad.

Watched Hitcher 2 last night...Great movie...I just wish I knew where my copy of Hitcher went:mad:

Watching all of the Tremors today...Already watched 1 and 2, I'm in the middle of part 3 now, I'll probably have to watch 4 when I get back from my niece's (or nephew's...I can't remember which of my sister's kids is having a birthday today...That's pretty bad, huh? :D...I got a gift that works for any of them...lol) birthday party.

I really like Tremors...The sequels, as usually happens, steadily slide downhill, but they're still worth watching

Babel
Although not quite as overwrought as 21 Grams, Inarritu's overlong, hyper-intense tale of miscommunication and stupid decisions seems to be trying too hard. There are great moments of very fine acting and wonderful camera work, but the story plays like a big, political treatise with nothing to say. Inarritu still hasn't made anything with the same impact as Amorres Perros and I'd really like to see him take on a simple linear story.
