300 sucked. I feel like most people who saw it had a predetermined, necessary liking for it- to me it was a complete letdown.

The visuals had been done better in Sin City, and the screenplay could have been written by a third grader.

I mean,

I loved it. I walked out of the theater wanting to punch someone. I got a little worked up

I'm not calling you out on this, because everyone says something along these lines about it, but that's exactly how I felt after I watched Power Rangers when I was six. This kind of satisfaction just doesn;t do it for me anymore.

-----------------------

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

I keep coming back to this movie. Every inch of it is overwhelmingly powerful.

ace in the hole (1951)

gripping, potent look at not only the power of the media itself, but the people that give it that power in the first place. it plays like a less satirical, but more intense network, and is very much still appropriate today (if not more so). everything is just so well-done, kirk douglas absolutely nails the main role.

highly recommended for alky, __v__, neverending, and despare.
I saw this a few months back in my pursuit of complete Billy Wilder enlightenment. It's definately one of his most underrated films, and its ferocious as hell.

the screenplay could have been written by a third grader.

I thought the same thing. I enjoyed when I saw it in the theater but that was because I was with some friends and some amusing events lead up to it. I watched it on TV thinking "I liked this" but when I watched it I realized I didn't pay attention at the theater and the movie sucked ass.

Um....dare I ask what you were expecting?

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51VmIvZ3LJL._SS500_.jpg

Over a long holiday weekend, unable to escape the confines of their sorority house, a handful of unsuspecting girls are left behind to enjoy the quiet sanctuary. The normal house staff has taken off for the weekend, leaving the girls to fend for themselves. Thankfully someone was kind enough to send them a temporary replacement chef to cook their meals. However, when the girls start disappearing one-by-one, they begin to suspect something may not be quite right with... THE COOK!

Yep...sounds like a masterpiece right there.

The reason it didn't make you laugh is because you aren't three anymore.
I don't know who ever thought Sandler had talent enough to join SNL and then to make his own movies, but he managed to leverage them into some kind of immature cult fan following.

I can enjoy Sandler's movies. I don't really see anything wrong with them. Well, I can tell they aren't good movies, but I still enjoy them. Maybe it's just because I've enjoyed them since I was a kid or maybe I'm just stupid. Maybe both. I don't know. But I liked Zohan.

Say what you will about his movies - I'm not much of a fan either (though he was the only part of Spanglish worth watching).

One story, one set of characters, across three different subfilms of the same subject/storyline, each written and directed by three different guys but kind've in collaboration.
I actually really liked this...was expecting that it may be a little like "The Ring", but it's a pretty far cry in truth.
Brutal, crazy, scary, funny, intense...to a horror fan, this film satisfied, was IMHO very well done. Cool musical score too.

Cut to five years later and here we are and boy is it worth it. Great action, good story telling, and the acting is pretty solid as well. Holy Shitballs! This one kicked a ton of ass. The pathos was there, the rage was there, the romance was there, the action was character motivated, Bruce got a great hero moment, there were allusions to Captian America, Iron Man, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the Avengers as well as cameos from Stan Lee (natch), Lou Ferrigno, and the late Bill Bixby!

And battling CG creatures usually bugs the shit out of me, but here it is handled deftly and even thrillingly. The final battle between Hulk and Abomination was fan-fucking-tastic!

Nope.

I meant the killer Jason. There is no explanation of him just "popping up" in part 2 out of nowhere, because he's nowhere to be seen in the original.

Unless he grew inside the lake at a rapid rate after trying to drown Alice. (if that wasn't a dream sequence, that is)

He just tweeks with his films to give himself more screen time. I mean, it's always for the better I suppose. He changed American History X so much Tony Kaye wanted to remove his own name from the film. I guess I should choose a less severe word. He's "hard to work with".

I have the Anthology, and it's worth every penny. It has 2-discers for all four movies, and all four movies are worth owning. However, the TGTBATU DVD only contains the director's cut. The Incredible Hulk.

Studios and directors have finally hit upon the magic ideas of how to make a comic-book-turned-movie click with the masses. The atmosphere of the whole movie compliments the CGI very nicely, and the direction is really admirable. The Abomination was a great development, and the final climatic battle is easily one of the best CGI fights anyone can hope to see on the big screen.

I thought for the most part, Tim Roth was the winner. The only possible complaint I could see was Edward Norton as Bruce...a slightly miscast option? But then, Downey Jr pulled off Tony Stark so...maybe the studios need to think over better casting options. Anyway, it was a negligible fact.

Overall, excellent in effects, good movie and technically sound. Well worth a peek.

the strangers (2008)

although being overall disappointed, i will say the film certainly had its merits.
they did an incredible job of building tension in the first 40 minutes or so, well-paced and subtle. it also looks really good, shot with an abundance of hand-held camera work and soft, orange light, both of which impressively add to the tension. after being quite impressed up until this point, the film just kind of stayed there, started throwing in gimmicks, and failing to deliver anything else of interest. it just started to get boring.

so what started off as a truly creepy, sinister film with a lot of potential ended as a mediocre disappointment that impressed me just a little more than the rest of the "blah" horror/torture/etc. films coming out today, and that's only because of what they did in the first part of it.

seeing it in theaters was fun for a while, but wasn't worth $9.50.

About Ryan Reynolds:
I have seen alot of his movies and he is not a bad actor but what he has in spades is sex appeal that I haven't seen on the screen before, it's truly amazing.
His body is just...mm...yummy:cool:

"Ghost Train", a japanese thriller about people disappearing on a train and a mysterious lady who is always seen on the platform at the time of each disappearance.

A really bad movie-I cannot in good conscience recommend this movie.

I also cannot recommend "The Happening" by M. Night Shyamalan. Good premise overall, but the suspense was contrived, overblown and dragged on with no payoff at the end.

In the middle of the movie there was this pointless excursion to some crazy ladys' house that closely resembled the scene when Tom Cruise met up with Tim Robbins in "War of the Worlds".

And the obligatory love conflict with no chemistry whatsoever between the characters was just pathetic.

Those were the last 2 movies I've seen.

Below.

This is such an underrated and creepy little gem. (**MINOR SPOILER**) Everytime I heard the knocking from outside the submarine, I got the creeps...the atmosphere was maintained exquisitely throughout the movie. The direction is top-notch, as is the script.

The only complaint anyone could have would be with the pacing, which left something to be desired. But the last 20-odd minutes are fast...and it ends with a shot which is hauntingly and bewitchingly odd, which lingers in the memory long after the movie is over.

Recommended to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Al ot of people loved the remote part but I hated it. Not because it acknowledged that it was a movie or because it broke the 4th wall but because it ruined the ending. After giving the villains that type of power there was no hope for anybody else in the film. Yes, the you could see that ending coming anyway, but there was at least some possibility of an alternate outcome.

**SPOILERS***
I think that part ultimately ruined the uncomfortable atmosphere. i mean, i felt a little bit upset that she went through all that but died at the end, but the remote part kinda made it seem less effective, as if, "oh, i guess its okay, its just a movie."

another aspect to the film that i disliked; the villians were the furthest thing from intimidating or creepy. I think it was sort of the point, but i disliked it either way.
