Hard to say without knowing what you've already seen. You seem to have an appreciation for the great directors and great drama. If you haven't seen Goodfellas, check that out. For a war drama, try The Onion Fields.
For classic horror, I recommend Corman's Poe adaptations- House of Usher, Tomb of Liegea. Vincent Price in The Witchfinder General.
Bizarre sci-fi/horror from the 60s- X- The Man With X-Ray Eyes.
To steal a recommendation from Alky- Peeping Tom.
Checked out Kurosawa? Start at the top with Ran, or try a lesser known Dodes Kaden.
Quirky comedy- Harold & Maude, one of my all time favorite films.
Altman's Nashville
Just some things off the top of my head.Yeah,i'm pretty open to anything.
I've seen things like Goodfellas, all 3 of the Godfather films,Dog Day Afternoon,National Lampoons Animal House,The Exorcist,Freaks(one of my favorite movies),Some classic movies and alot of modern movies.I pretty much liked all of them. Thanks for the suggestions,I'll get right on it.:)

i cant really see how anyone could think differently. it was so incredibly slow moving. At times i thought it would pick up, there would be intense music, and the camera would pan over some mountains...and that was it. Anti-climactic. The scenes of conflict between Daniel Day and Paul Dano were awesome, could have used some more of that. everything in between felt like random, uneventful scenes strung together. The ending was worth sitting through the entire 3 hours however.
"I drink your milkshake!"
Still think the title is misleading. no blood in the literal sense, I suppose its in a metaphorical sense, but i still didnt see it.
i won't argue that it wasn't slow-paced, because it was. that was the point, i felt. the lack of physical action was filled with a brooding tension, and the fact that there was so much going on beneath the surface. you have a man descending into madness, essentially, drilling for oil in the middle of nowhere. for a sparse tale like that, i thought the pacing was perfect.
as for the promise of blood, it's quite literal too:
****SPOILER!!!********
when plainview bashes eli's head in with a bowling pin, there's quite a sizable pool of blood gathering right next to daniel as he's sitting down on the bowling lane.

The Dark Knight - Viewing #2
Do I even need to say anything? I loved it just as much this time as the first, if not even more so.
Enjoyed Maroni's scenes a lot more this time...he kind of blended in on the initial viewing, but this time I really noticed just how awesome he was. He's obviously overshadowed by Ledger - just like everyoine else, and deservedly so - but he still gives a great performance. Lots of fun.
Wife: Cant we go some place quieter? We cant even hear each other talk!
Maroni: Who says I wanna hear you talk?

To Be or Not to Be (1942)
Fantastic. I'll always proclaim Jack Benny as the greatest comedian to ever grace the planet.
Big (1988)
It had been awhile, and I wanted my sister to see it.
White Cargo (1942)
It sounded interesting, but it ended up being only vaguely so.

I REALLY liked this one but something kept me from catapulting it to the top of my favorites. The funny thing is, I keep thinking about how it could have or should have been better and I keep coming up with nothing. I even loved the way 2 Face looked... at least he wasn't blue.

Haha, yeah, or even the lavender color seen in the comics sometimes. It could have been SOOOO much worse and really, it's Batman, I don't care how gritty and dark you make it... a lack of realism shouldn't be a complaint.

There was a huge line to get in the theater to see this. and I now know why.
if you havnt seen this yet, go see it right now. There's a good chance you won't experience a movie quite like this one in the theaters in about a decade.
its what a movie should be like. The kind that has so much awesomeness that you get shivers down your spine. I think it bumped it's way into my top 10 somewhere.
The audience was perfect, to make things better. No applause until the end.

The most annoying thing about it, except for the lead actor who i'm not very fond of (Huge fan of Harry Connick Jr tho), is the fact that this story is about the two main characters seeing bugs, but the audience never do. We just get to watch 2 people freaking the fuck out for 1 hour. And apparently some people appreciate that???

the x-files: i want to believe (2008)
okay, so:
i'd been waiting quite some time to see this. i've been an "x-phile" ever since 1993, so needless to say i was pretty excited to see not just mulder and scully, but the whole x-file world alive and back up on the big screen again.
and i was not disappointed.
carter and co. stay true to the roots, the core of the show in this film. mulder and scully are stubborn to a fault, but passionate. the air is filled with a tinge of melodrama, but it wouldn't work any other way. it's not perfect, and that's part of what gave the show and this film its distinct charm. there's beauty in imperfection.
i've read a lot of reviews that complain that the storyline is "wafer thin," but i'd rather compare it to jam on toast (this is a terrible analogy), a thin layer of thriller with a thicker, deeper crust of "human interest"/character study beneath it. it plays out like a puzzle, and you get bits and pieces of this puzzle as you go along, almost right along with the investigation itself. you are there, yourself, deciding what you think is true and what is not.
overall, it's altogether understated, but still feels epic. the pacing feels strange at times, even at the end, but there's always something there that makes it work. finally, the ending feels right, providing a warm endcap that puts the rest of the film (which is fairly cold) in a final, solid perspective.
all in all it plays like a long (although it doesn't feel especially long), deeper-than-usual episode.
satisfying, and itself satisfied.
fans i think will have a blast, and non-fans i think probably won't love it, but will appreciate it as a smarter, above average thriller.
and, of course, there are some treats for the fans in there as well.
if this is the end of the x-files, then carter, duchovny, anderson, and co. should take a bow. they deserve it.

have to say that so far it's pretty good. although modernized it follows the book pretty faithfully - captures the pacing to a T.

I'm pretty sure i would've thought the same as you if i'd seen a trailer for it first. But i didn't. So i got into it with no expectations whatsoever, other than i knew it was some kind of action movie and it would quite possibly suck.
So i was very pleasantly surprised.
The Dark Knight, on the other hand, has been so overhyped, especially in here, so it would take a miracle for me to get blown away about it. So I wasn't.
Thank you everybody.
In all fairness i have to say that i've never been a huge fan of super hero movies. So on that note i guess TDK is one of the better ones. The best Batman for sure, which not saying a whole lot coming from me. :D

No, that was the most disappointing about it.
It was ok good, but i was never blown away by anything that happened in it. Maybe a little about the introduction of Two-face coz that came as quite a surprise to me.
I have a question about that scene by the way.
How does the two-face story in TDK fit with the two-face in "Batman forever"? Or doesn't it? I really don't remember. Maybe BF just didn't have any background story for Two-face..

Batman Forever showed the creation of Two-Face on a news story containing footage from the courtroom (with all kinds of fancy angles you wouldn't get if you were just filming the proceedings.) The one in Forever is the same as in the comics, acid splashed in his face.

I've seen pretty much every movie thats come out this summer - on opening night- but some people are making the choice not to go to some.. like x-files.
i was reminded of why i grew tired of the series in the 4th season ...
how many times does scully need to be hit in the face with a golf club - before she admits it was a golf club ?
Yesterday I watched both Indiana Jones & The Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom.
I've not seen these in over 10-15 years or more, and they're just a lotta fucking fun. Raiders was of course FAR fucking better than Temple, but Temple had some great scenery and was fun in it's own cheesy way.

Yes I want to believe alright. The movie was unpredictable, like the old X-Files episodes, and Mulder & Scully did a great job keeping things going in perfect rivetting fashion. The only minor complaint I could have, is the Amanda Peet character, who I thought was a bit annoying. The atmosphere was well-maintained throughout, and the characters fleshed out nicely into their roles, aided by a superb script and good direction.

An American Haunting.
Enjoyable and entertaining spookfest with a rather edgy climax. I can see why people didnt like it, and I would blame the makers for saying "based on true events" while it was actually an adaptation of a fiction novel, which gives the ending a more gritty and "blatant" feel.
Good performances, some solid atmospheric moments...and 1-2 truly jumpy sequences.
Drawbacks - annoying background music, and the Evil Dead-copycat camerawork showing the "entity" at work, and the loud whisperings working their way to sheer exasperation.
Still, I liked it, so sue me.

I was expecting it to be better. A few laughs here and there. It picked up speed towards the end, but it still fell flat.

one of the best lines in any film ...ever :
Carlos: So, what, were they psychos, or...

The Doll Squad & Astro Zombies
double feature at the Grindhouse film fest. The Doll Squad was pretty awesome. Astro Zombies is weak, but I still wanted to catch it on the big screen.I'm convinced that film shaped the creature/character design of Jason Vorhees.

Yah, the Flash was great. I watched every episode.
Today I watched 5 fine horror flicks:
-Chopping Mall (So bad it was good)
-Prom Night (The original with Leslie Nielsen and Jamie Lee - Pretty damned good)
-Sleepaway Camp's 1-3 (Loved all three movies, but I found part 2 to be my favourite - Plus the girl who played Ally was hot-as-fuck, and a great pair of tits!)
Gotta love 80's cheese. :)

I remember popping this in awhile back and couldnt get past the first 30-odd minutes. Surprising, because I had enjoyed it quite a bit when I saw it the first time on VHS.
Times have surely changed...
