Evil Dead Trap (1988)
Liked it a lot. Japanese giallo with some creative kills and traps. Kinda goes off the rails towards the end, but I still liked it.

TERROR TRAIN 1980
Something I've been meaning to watch for awhile and I'm glad I finally did. A group of students celebrate New Year's eve on an train but a party crasher is intent upon revenge for a cruel prank played years ago.

The Gore Gore Girls (1972)
Finally saw it. Eh. Herschel Gordon Lewis, it is what it is. Like Blood Feast, the "mystery" is so uninteresting, but at least the humor is a little better, the music and 70s vibe is great, and the gore is amusing. A good entry in the history of splatter, but doesn't hold up too well overall.

PROM NIGHT 1981
A little girl's death is avenged big time on prom night. Bit of a dud. I mean its typical 80's but found it average.
PHENOMENA 1985 AKA CREEPERS
Wow! Odd little movie with lovely visuals and an awesome soundtrack. A young girl attends a boarding school in Sweden and helps to solve gruesome murders with her telepathic skills. She is able to talk to insects.

The Screaming Woman (1972)
Cool little TV movie from the 70's - The Screaming Woman. It's pretty short, like a long Twilight Zone episode about a woman (Olivia de Havilland) with dementia who is trying to convince people she has found (a barely alive) Buried body.I think there's an episode of Ray Bradbury Theater with the same title. Drew Barrymore is in it, if I'm not mistaken.

The Sword in the Stone
According to my dear ol' dad, this is the very first movie I ever watched, and what a great introduction to the world of film it was! I enjoyed this as much today as ever, in fact I even recall laughing out loud fairly often...mostly at Archimedes the Owl, he was a hoot! [Pun intended]. Even after all these years, I could still sing along to many of the songs:D

fGodzilla 1985
6/10
Surprisingly, I never saw this film before. This movie was a joint USA/Japan production including some US partswith Raymond Burr, with 90% Japanese parts.
It was really interesting... obviously had a good budget, decent 'old movie giant monster SfX'. Although I wish they would have taken the Godzilla suit to next top level, but it doesn't quite make it. The lips quiver a bit, and they can show inside his mouth, but it's basically the same 1956 technology.
The eyes on Godzilla are really the downfall as they don't look real. Don't really like this version of the suit. The '56 suit of Godzilla was thoroughly scary, but that suit was sent to the US and lost.
Godzilla 1985 is an 80s movie - including the rivalry between the US and the Soviet Union - who shoot a nuclear missile from space at Japan/Godzilla.
This film plays out as a disaster film, basically a remake of the original, & plenty of Dr Pepper soda placement advertisements.

CANNIBAL APOCALYPSE (1980)-Also known as INVASION OF THE FLESH HUNTERS and CANNIBALS IN THE STREETS.Pretty cheesy story of Vietnam Vets who have the urge to munch on human flesh now and again, but I really like this. DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978). Loved NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and when this came to the Chicago area around April 1979, tried five different theatres, but no one under 18 was allowed and even checking ID's. Back in those days, if you missed a film, it was just hard luck. It might come back around or get on TV butchered for commercials.
A couple of years later, saw it was playing nearby and after getting out of work a little early and hauling ass to the theatre, finally got to see it. Astounded at its audacity and over the top nature and started hitting the Midnight movies with different people frequently.
30 plus years later, still think it's an awesome film that works so well. For a raving zombie geek like myself, the Anchor Bay Four Pack is the only way to go. *****

Showed a friend for the first time, he's 34 like me, and had never seen it...for an 80's kid, very sad lack of horror exposure at all - almost everything I've mentioned, he's never seen. He enjoyed it. Who wouldn't?
Great movie, still one of, if not THE best in the series.

Not only it was a brave & clear statement about & against racism but I found the WHITE DOG as a metaphor of our preconceived mind & trained hatred against so many other issues that's still troubling the world today. The ending was a real heart-breaker and not because of how it ends or what happens to that poor, cruel dog but because of how it depicts the harsh side of the reality.

Very entertaining but a little too cheaply made to be really good.

"The Survivor" 6-7/10
I love horror/mystery storis like this one, but the VHS version on Youtube was so damn dark that I had a hard time telling what was going on lots of times in the movie and it also made me fall asleep several times. Might be the reasons why I found the story very confusing. In fact, I never figured out what the hell was going on. ::big grin::

GOOD AGAINST EVIL 1977
Made for tv movie about a young man who falls in love with a young woman being groomed to bear Satan's child. Of course neither of them know this but the woman has an inkling due to her unusual childhood.
There's an "exorcism" scene but the sound effects were mostly monkeys, elephants and lions. And the priest almost gets..pillowed to death.
Nothing too taxing.

NIGHT OF THE DEMON 1980 Not Night of the Demons
A professor and 5 students trek out to Bigfoot country to explain the cause of a number of gruesome deaths. Geez, a motorcyclist who stops to urinate on the side of the road will be peeing through a straw now. Ouch!!!! He didn't make it anyway. PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1987). While I don't think this is as bad as a lot of people say, still find it takes forever to get going and lots of unneeded characters. It's as interesting premise that could have been helped with a little pruning.

From Beyond (1986)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f2/Frombeyondposter.jpg
Stuart Gordon directs this wonderfully bizarre and disturbing adaptation of the H. P. Lovecraft short story. For the most part the specials effects makeups hold up very well (although some not as much as others) and there is a lot brutal gore throughout. I really like the use of color and lighting when The Resonator was turned on. Jeffrey Combs gives a solid albeit over-the-top performance as the protagonist. Ted Sorel is massively creepy as the film's villain and his transformation scenes are mind blowing. Barbara Crampton in a dominatrix outfit plus Ken Foree. I highly recommend checking this out.

It was fairly silly/bad. Angela Lansbury was fairly awful. However the transformation scene in the early part of the film was great. I mean it looks very fake by our standards, but it was great for back then(1984). I skimmed the last 20 minutes. You get to see a briefly naked Danielle Dax. Shrug. I'd just watch the transformation scene on youtube and skip the film.

I mean it looks very fake by our standards, but it was great for back then(1984). I skimmed the last 20 minutes. You get to see a briefly naked Danielle Dax. Shrug. I'd just watch the transformation scene on youtube and skip the film.
4/10
Considering how nit picky I am about werewolves having more human characteristics rather than going full wolf, I actually enjoyed this film. Mostly cause the end tied it up with that life lesson that inspired the story of Little Red Riding Hood (of which the movie's loosely based on if I remember correctly). And if the transformation you're talking about is the one I have in mind, then I must agree that it was completely worth price of admission.

CUJO (1983). Feel that this has aged well and enjoyed it more than when I saw it back when. Dee Wallace is quite good in the scenes involving the title pooch and a few boffo scares. Did feel sorry for the dogs, having to wear all that makeup::big grin::.***

Poltergeist (1982)
I have a bit of a confession to make. I've never really sat down and put my entire attention towards the original Poltergeist. The last time I saw it was when I was much younger, and I had no clue what was going on. Anyway, Poltergeist is without a doubt one of the great 80's classics, not only in horror, but in all genres. I loved almost every second of it. It had some great scary scenes and an awesome score. The movie allowed its audience to really identify and sympathize with the Freelings because of all the character development, and that's what makes this movie stand out from all the other supernatural flicks of its time.

I really think it's not fair to compare the remake to the original because they're both completely different. The remake has more in common with Insidious and The Grudge than the original Poltergeist. It has that dark lighting and fluid cinematography that a lot of modern ghost flicks have, and it's a lot more jumpy than the original.

Fair enough. I feel like I really need to see the remake just to make my own comparison. But from what you say I already see one problem. We call it a remake, and yet it's nothing like the original. Shouldn't a remake pay homage to the original by staying faithful to it's story, characters, etc? But like I said I haven't seen it so I really can't say anything. When it comes out I'll look for it online and give it a watch.

The Creature From Black Lake
One of my favorite bigfoot movies. I'm not saying it's a great movie, because I think my love of Cryptid related films clouds my judgement on such things, but to me, this movie represents all that is good about 1970's drive-in super crap. It's cheesy, it's pace is leisurely, the creature is a man in a hairy suit, and you get Dennis Fimple, John David Carson, Jack Elam and Dub Taylor to boot!

THE CHILDREN (1980)-After FRIDAY, THE 13TH was such a big hit, it seemed there was a new horror flick or two every week-and I tried to see as many as I could. Saw this in the theater-with a Three Stooges short- and thought it was pretty bad and 35 years later, it's still pretty bad.
However, withe passing of age, I noticed some serious social no-nos in the story, noticed Rita Montone (the hooker who gets scalped in MANIAC) makes an appearance, Harry Manfredini scores the film (with what sounds like F13 leftovers) and the lead actress is Gale Garnett who had a big hit with "WE'll Sing In The Sunshine" back in the 60's! **

PET SEMATARY (1989). Even if it's a variation on "The Monkey's Paw", one of my favorite King books. The movie has potential and some really good scenes, especially>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILER ALERT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> where Gage is killed...found this incredibly hard hitting and very difficult to watch, especially if you have a little one.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Some decent grue too, but just found the whole Creed family annoying (the whiney Mother/Daughter combo and the endlessly pratfalling Dad) and some different actors may have helped. But kudos for casting Fred Gwynne, a perfect choice for Jud Crandall. Plenty of potential, but still find this a misfire that really could have been better. **1/2

Black Christmas (1974)
This is the second movie today that I have no clue why I watched, but I'm really glad I did. I had heard of this movie before but never bothered to seek it out until now. Black Christmas is notable for being one of the earliest slasher movies. The film primarily takes place within a sorority house, and the girls living there are unaware that a killer is lurking in the attic, who continuously calls them during the night. I was very surprised by this one. I'm typically not a fan of slasher movies. They're hit-and-miss for me, and there's only a handful that I really enjoyed. Black Christmas is without a doubt one of the scariest slasher movies I've ever seen. The phone calls are beyond creepy. Each one was so memorably terrifying. The cinematography also amplifies the scare-factor in this movie because of the low lighting in a lot of the scenes as well as the shots from the killer's POV. This movie even had a ton of likable and unique characters that made you really feel for them when they were axed off, and one character, Mrs. Mac, added a ton of good humor to the film. Black Christmas is a must-watch if you want an insanely scary and memorable slasher film.

That movie used to bore me as a kid. And I always got it confused with Independence Day (which was the other alien movie my dad is really fond of) so more reason not to watch it. But much more recently I decided to give it a try again when I sat in to watch some before work one day. I found myself really REALLY liking it. Great pacing, suspense, story, effects, just. When A Stranger Calls (1979)
I finally decided to sit down and watch this "classic", and I have to say that I was half-terrified, half-disappointed. It's a movie where I loved only certain scenes, while other scenes were a labor to sit through. When A Stranger Calls is a 1979 thriller is about a babysitter who gets creepy phone calls during the night, and when the calls are traced by the police, it starts a deadly chain of events that haunt her for years. This film is infamous for the first 20 minutes, and that alone makes this movie watchable. The opening scene of When A Stranger Calls is agonizingly terrifying, especially watching it alone in the dark. It's without a doubt one of the best openings to a horror film I've ever seen. Up there with The Ring and Suspiria. However, after the first 20 minutes, the film takes a huge nose dive. I don't want to get into too much detail so that I can avoid spoilers, but I'll just say that it goes from a terrifying suspense film to an unfocused, dull cop revenge thriller. The sudden tonal shift is rather jarring, but I could have forgiven that had the film been much more tight and controlled. It seemed like an hour of filler. Fortunately, the last act of the movie returns to the suspense nature of the first act, and it becomes almost as thrilling as the start of the film. When A Stranger Calls is bookended by some of the scariest scenes in cinema, and that makes this film worth a watch. It's worth laboring through the middle 45 minutes.
