Zathura
Enter yet another world of fun and mayhem in the style of Jumanji, this time in space. We follow Danny and Walter, two brothers who hate each other (nothing knew), but need to be smacked for their troubles. Anyway, they come across a board game called Zathura, and before you can say "What the fuck is Zathura?!" they're abandoned in outer space. Zathura was an ok enjoyable flick, but didn't even come close to holding a candle to the classic Jumanji. Sure, we've got the claustrophic area of space, but there's not much to work with. And, leaving the main story on danny and Walter hurt the film since they annoyed the living hell out of me. Overall, Zathura is a rental at best!

**SPOILERS AGAIN**
one moment he tells his daughter to cover her ears and to sing her favorite song or whatever out loud, he then takes an object (don't remember really what kind of object) and goes into a room with robbins. he later comes out and is alone. robbins' character isn't seen anymore. yeah, my guess, he killed him.

I loved this movie! I'm not going to go into details since I just wrote a 500 word movie review for History on this movie (which turned out to be 1,203 words). But I will say that I highly recommend this movie. Even if it is 3 hours long.

i LOVE this movie... it is SO good. it combines Horror/sci fi, with a lot of adventure thrown in, with some comedy, with a little documentary, and they kept Muldoon (from the book) in the movie. even though i'm still very sad that he died...
this is probably one of my favorite movies of all time... just because it's amazing. my favorite part is the kitchen part with the raptors, and the 2 kids. or the part with ellie in the power house trying to restore electricity to the place, and the raptor springs it's head out of nowhere and makes u jump...:D

Had a little monsterfest with some pals.
- Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
- The Mummy (1932)
- Dracula (1931)
- The Invisible Man (1933)
- The Wolfman (1941)
- Frankenstein (1931)
The Invisible Man is easily my favorite monster movie out of all of Universal's classics. I think it is so underrated- everything is great. The effects, acting, plot, and flow are all superb. Dracula takes a close second, and then Frankenstein.
Then I also watched:
- A Hard Day's Night
- Key Largo (My second favorite Bogart film.)

I heard a LOT of bad things about this movie but in honestly I found it entertaining. Sure the acting wasn't great, the effects were overused and over the top, the plot was predictable, and the social commentary wasn't so much subtle as it was shoved down your throat but all in all it was a fun ride. I'd say... probably 7/10 maybe a 6 because it was much too long but I'd have to watch it again to decide.

Yeah man, not a bad movie at all. I just think SJH screaming out obvious things was silly and over the top. The acting wasn't great and while the Caddy looked ok i love the fact that they made it look like that Chevy truck was a classic car with all the muscle car paint and stuff. That was clever.

I had a bit of a film fest over the weekend lol.
First up:
Battlefield Baseball - where Do I Start??!! What the fuck is this? It's the early hours of the morning and I pluck this movie from a shelf - it's been lying there for months so I decide to give it a go...hmmm. OK - it starts with a bit of gore, this is fine and then moves on to a ridiculous story line which I start to find amusing...what I don't realise is that because it's so bad it's ctually quite funny. Then, the singing - yes singing!! Our 'hero' every half hour it seems needs to break into song, this is not your usual pop or rock classic - no it's Japanese Cheese!!! This film has to be one of the most over the top insane pieces of film I have ever seen.
Will I watch it again? Maybe...but first I think I'd have to to make sure my drink wasn't spiked - would I reccommend - hell no. Battlefield Baseball - so bad it's err gonna make you paranoid you've been spiked, now there's a movie catch phrase!

Alexander - 6.5/10 I don't mind these 'epics' most of the time but I am still trying to find one that matched gladiator and after this I am sooo still looking. Was a good movie but not great, at almost 3 hours you have to be ready for the long haul but for me the suration was not a problem so i didn't mind this movie although it will be a while before I watch again.
Dead & Dying ( El Intermedio )
I actually quite liked this film starring Edward Furlong and the chap who playes Ed Gein in Ed Gein! The death scenes are really quite gorey and bloody which really is the only reason I liked this. The CGI was pretty poor and the storyline has been done to death but hey there were some good bloody scenes so that for me saved it - a little.
6/10
Charlie & The Choc. Factory (remake)
I really enjoyed this. Apparently Road Dahl hated the original as it was never meant to be a musical etc etc but his family reckon he'd have loved this and ifor one agree. This is a quality film. Great performance yet again by Depp.

Android of Notre Damme (2nd in Guinea Pig Series)
Hmmm - I'm not sure about this, loadsa gore, obvious story line, I fell asleep, I woke up not much more happened - more gore and then at 50 mins end of movie. Not bad but not great either
6.5/10 as I didn't pay full attention so will give benefit of doubt.

I Drink Your Blood
Silly, yet entertaining hippie horror flick. There are a few good gore scenes, but the plot is thin at best. That ending was quite possibly the most nonsensical ending I've seen yet. Still a fairly solid effort though. Overall: 6/10
The Weatherman - more of a dramedy. Good performance's from Nick Cage and the always great Michael Caine.
Domino-Pretty good, very loosly"based on fact" story of Domino Harvey, daughter of actor Laurence Harvey, model turned bounty hunter. Not too crazy about the MTV style of filmaking [ lots of fast cuts ] but Keira Knightley is always easy on the eyes and Mickey Roarke gives another fine performance.
Pink Panther- I was very hesitant about seeing this one [Steve Martin could never replace Peter Sellers ] but it got pretty good reviews. My fears were realized....this was a bad idea.I don't think i laughed out-loud once.....maybe a slight smile but that could have been gas.

The Thing ~ Carpenter's excellent remake of course. Brilliant film. I really need to add this to my collection soon.

No spoilers, dont worry
This is a film that, upon second viewing, found me thinking "You dumbass" quite frequently. Definatly still a good film, but 2-3 characters in particular are incredibly stupid. The acting, script, effects, and twists, for the most part, are improved upon from the original, however they still arent that great. Aside from the twists of course, which I found pretty amusing.
8.5/10
One problem I had with it though:
*HUGE SPOILERS*
Perhaps this was intentional, but Xavier didnt have a friggin number on his neck!! You couldnt really see if he did or not when he ripped the chunk off his neck, but earlier on in the film we had a clear shot of the back of his head/neck....and NO NUMBER. A decent flick, but definitely not great. The first hour was good and entertaining, but the second hour drags on and has a lot of flashbacks within flashbacks within flashbacks. I hate those! They confuse the hell out of me! I'm glad to see Mickey Rourke and Christopher Walken in here. They're great actors, and proved it here (no surprise). And Keira Knightley is hot as hell, and that lap dance scene made me "REAL HAPPY"! Though, how the fuck did Macy Gray get a role in here? I hate that bitch!

Just watched ' Intermission' starring Colin Farrell. I thought this was a decent enough movie. It was kinda like a cross between Trainspotting, Riff Raff, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrells and Twin Towns but not as good.
Colin farrell plays a local scumbag and he plays it ok but it's not his best performance by any means.

The Weather Man
Is it just me or does Nicolas Cage's characters all seem the same? And why does he always narrarate in his movies? These questions are yet to be answered, but still came to my mind while I viewed The Weather Man. Nicolas Cage plays David Spritz, the town weatherman. Of course, people shit all over him just because he reads off of a prompter. But, he's gotten used to it (sort of). His ex-wife is also set to marry a guy who he hates the shit out of, tries to spend more time with his kids (especially his daughter), talks to his loving father (played greatly by one of the bests in teh business Michael Caine), and says fuck a lot. But, I feel I've seen this before. It's pretty much the same plot to most of Nicolas Cage's films (except with a different character and territory). It's not all too bad, but does effect the film. And, the director seemed to love the scenery more than the characters. He was more and less focusing the camera on the icy waters or icy targets. It does pass well for a drama, especially because of the "didn't see it coming" ending. But, it's just like Nic Cage's other films basically.

I didn't have high expectations going into it, but ended up really enjoying it. The acting wasn't exactly top notch, but I'm a sucker for fun death scenes. Even though the kills weren't as good as in the first two, they were still pretty entertaining. I loved the ending, it's what really made me form a positive opinion of the film.

The Ghosts Of Edendale
I really really enjoyed this low budget Indie Flick. Had one or two jumpy scenes and an overall creepy feeling. Fairly well acted, effects ok for the budget and tons of extra's on the DVD itself to keep you entertained. I was really impressed with this one folks!
7.5/10
the French Sex Murders
This film I started to watch last night at 2am and kept falling asleep - I purchased this from the US on the Mondo Macabro?? (I think) label. From what I remember seeing I got the impression it was cut etc. Reading the stroy behind the film on the extra's and it was confirmed. Apparently though this is the most complete version and they have cut it from various versions of the film available throughout the world. I thought the gore was only average for the normal run of the mill giallo. Being an Argento fan I thought I would love this but although amusing in parts and one or two decent deaths it didn't stand up to Argento's finest efforts. Not a bad film if you want blood and a few laughs at some quite appalling acting!
5.5/10
P.S. Also worth a watch for some classic 'dubbed' lines ;
" you wanted her - you filthy Pig"
" Yer a Whore, a bloody whore... a Whoooore - a Bloody bloody Whooore"
Quite extreme eh?? heheheeh - I then fell asleep though and missed what could have been some quite amazing follow up lines of dialogue!! hehehe.

I really like the ideas and Stuff behind "Four Brothers". But the whole way it was presented and everything ruined the whole movie for me. I believe that if we could take back time, and have someone other than John Singleton do this movie. It could be much better.

Awesome! For awhile there, I thought I was the only one here that heared of that one. I thought it was great, too. The ending really made it for me, and the scenes leading up to it. Im not sure what youd call it, the "flashback" party? Very cool, well done, original scene. I think I gave this one 8-8.5, something like that. Great buy for $3:p

Stepfather 2
I haven't seen the original Stepfather, since it is a rare find in my town (as is the sequel). As is this sequel. So, I was shocked as hell to see it for $5.00 down at my local and loyal (the employees, that is) BlockBuster. I snatched my copy of it and took it home with me and popped it in the ol' VHS player. And I have to say, I was impressed.
Now, this was by far not the best thing I've ever seen, nor does it even rank in must-watch for rare commodities. But, it is worth the time if you happen to stumble upon it.
If you're like me, and haven't seen the original, no need to worry. The sequel clears that up with the ending from the original in the beginning of this movie. Then, he escapes the loony bin and then forms into Gene, a family counselor. Shortly, he wins the heart of both Carol and her teenage son, and before you know it, are set to wed. Meanwhile, Gene displaces some annoying fucks (including Carol's ex-husband) and gets set for the big day- OF LOVE AND DEATH!!!
The movie had it's ups, such as the directing, acting, inventivity, and even nice scenery. But, you can't forget about the uninvited downers, which include off-screen deaths, some stupid deaths (such as a security guard getting killed by a knightstick and a random man on the road dying, I think, after getting a car trunk gets slammed on his hands), some annoying characters (which were displaced of), and a horrible climatic ending (which started out good) Overall, Stepfather 2 is worth a look, but don't go in for gore and death, and don't overhype yourself.
3 and a half stars out of 5.

The Toxic Avenger
Where do I start? I wasnt expecting a whole lot going into this movie. Mainly because its an independent movie, i never go in expecting to much. But I was slammed in the face from the very begining. This movie is really and truly non-stop fun. And no doubt one of the best independent movies I have ever seen. I loved the whole storyline to this movie. I also loved the music, the gore, and the girls. This movie was awesome! I got the "Tox Box" Which includes "The Toxic Avenger I, II, III, and the animated "Toxic Crusaders" movie. So I will put my reviews on those up when I get to watching them.

I liked this one but one thing bugged me, I know Zombie borrows liberally from other horror films and that's cool I like that. Unfortuanatly I don't like ripping off scenes and that whole "slap her" scene was straight out of Last House. Anyway, I wish the body count was higher but when that woman's running around with her husband's face on... that's cool.

Spal watched Van Helsing today too, I saw most of it, for the third time. It's NOT horror...that's the key point. It's a monster flick in the style of the films that MAY have scared people many a year ago. At this point, it's more of an action adventure, and if you accept it as that, it's pretty enjoyable.
Just watched the first 2/3 of the neverending story, original.
This would have to be one of the best fantasy films ever...cool characters, visually brilliant, with a great score. Good storyline, interesting magical characters, and a nice dark edge to it. It really is a shame how much the unneccessary sequels assfucked the frenchise. I mean, sure, 2 was "ok", but the cartoon, the series, the dreadful #3?? fuck no.
I actually heard there was a fourth...I'd be interested to know if anyone here has seen THAT, but I've little interest in following up on this myself.

This is a collection of short films that Fangoria released as part of a contest. If these were the best submissions they received, I'd hate to see the worst ones. Generally bad all the way around. Ultimate Avengers: The Movie
Classic animation is put forth with classic superhoes, and it's not the Justice League! Ultimate Avengers is beatifully drawn, bt not well written. The first 45 minutes played out like a detective story, since they were pretty much looking for superheroes to team up with the cryogenically frozen (not on purpose either) Captain America, find Iron Man and ask him about some metal suit (???). I forgot already what it was that they were looking for. The action is so-so, but nothing special. And it only ran for 71 minutes! What a load of bullshit! A rental at best just for the beautiful animation and the classic superheroes.

This is the second time Ive seen this movie, and I enjoyed it just as much as my first viewing. I wont say if I thought it was better or worse than the original, as it was an entirely different movie, and largely uncomparable to the 1971 film. Depp was great as always, his Wonka was so crazy it was almost scary. The supporting cast was great as well, including many Burton regulars. Christopher Lee makes a nice apearance as Wonka's dentist father. Very good movie with phenominal effects, if you haven't seen it, go rent yourself a copy.

Boo - Sheesh. I've been trying really hard lately, as per my friend's suggestion, to lighten up and turn my brain off when I watch movies like this. So I had a couple of whiskey & waters with it.
Even in my wonderful alcohol induced state, I had to groan at the acting and some of the cheesy plot lines. That being said, I did enjoy some of the cool effects, even though a lot of them consisted of the worn-out twitchy ghost. It was worth the $4.75USD I paid for it, but I see it collecting a lot of dust on my collection shelf. 5/10
Saw II - I'm sure most of you have seen it and passed judgement already, but I'll throw in my humble opinion. WARNING! *SPOILERS AHEAD*
I'll start of by stating that I enjoyed this movie as much, if not more than the first one. The needle scene that everyone has been talked about lived up to the hype. More sadistic traps, and I loved the way they tied it in with the first one at the end. I was particularly happy to see the re-emergence of the pig-head costume briefly at the end. I did manage to guess the ending about 10 minutes before it came (I had no clue as to the ending of the first before it happened) but I was still able to enjoy it. It also leaves space for interesting sequal possibilities. BRAVO! 9.5/10
Eternal - I've always wanted to see a movie about Countess Erszebet Bathory. I was so damned stoked when I heard about this movie that I almost soiled myself.
I was a little disappointed that the movie leaned way more towards mystery/suspense than horror. Deep down, I almost wanted it to move into the realms of exploitation. The suspense was good, and all in all it ended up being a good movie with some great scenery and decent blood/gore. 7.5/10

re. corpse bride ... i loved the animation but found the music failed ... i felt it was too much of a rehash of the same tunes in Nightmare Before Xmas (one song in particular - cant remember the name - was indistinguishable from 'Nightmare'
i never tire of that animation though .. it's gorgeous.

This came as a feature film in the Three...Extremes package. The other two "Box", and "Cut" are both shorts that averaged around 40 mins each.
Dumplings was very well planned and well layed out. It was really well Directed. Unfortunatly I dont know If I like this movie or not. I liked the story (allthough, I dont know if I believe in the science behind the film) but I really, really disliked the scenes of abortion in the movie. and what they did with the aborted babies. I disliked twenty times more.

N.O.T.L.D. (remake) - I really liked the remake also, yes I am biased cos I love tom Savini but I thought this was one of the best remakes I have seen, not as good as the original but I did like the different twist at the end and enjoyed the fact that they played it similar to the original but yet added and changed other important parts throughout the film.

I popped this into my DVD player not expecting too much, but I have to say, I didn't mind it. Don't get me wrong it's not a classic and it has many flaws but I have seen many films like this that are far far worse. The effects were ok, some of the acting was very good - all in all Ifound it a fun movie.

Yours, Mine, & Ours (remake)
What a bullshit operation! Cheaper by the Dozen gets remade, so now we need another "Brady Bunch-style" kind of movie to be remade. And it's not pretty. Bur, before I get out on a rant, I'll give you the dreaded plot. Or, as I like to call it...
The Lowdown:
High School sweethearts Frank and Helen catch up with each other at a High School Reunion cruise, and they end up falling in love again and are set to get married (wow, that was quick). Only problem is, Helen has ten kids, Frank has eight. At first, they think they can handle it. But, the kids hate each other and are set to break up their parents.
Review:
Like I said before, this is a bullshit operation! If it wasn't for Dennis Quaid (Flight of the Phoenix) and Rene Russo (Two for the Money), this would've been a blow-up. The kids were annoying as hell (though the two oldest daughters were hot) and just jumped the gun because they have different interests (everybody does dumbasses). *SPOILER* But, of course, when the parents are going to break up, the kids realize their guilt and get their parents back together for teh happy ending. *END OF SPOILER* All in all, YMO is not worth a watch. Maybe a rental at best. Maybe.

As with many High School English classes, we had to watch this over the past few days. Unlike most "school" movies, however, I quite enjoyed it. Robin Williams was great as usual, a pleasant change from his typical over-the-top roles. The supporting cast was great as well, each having their own moments to shine. The film had a very good message, to always stand up for what you believe in, Carpe Diem! Part of the ending bothered me, though the final scene certainly made up for it.

I continued my 'Dead' season last night with the original D.O.T.D. European Version. This shorter than the extended version in the boxset and although not as good it is still the classic that I remember!
10/10
I also watched The School Killer. A modern Spanish effort that borrows from the likes of The Blair Witch Project, Scream and most other 90's slashers. It is starring Paul Nashy (Rojo Sangre) and I must admit to quite enjoying this. Don't get me wrong, the plot is very patchy and as it gets closer to the climax becomes more and more ridiculous, the cast are well annoying (although some of this could be down to interpretaion from the subtitles) but I did enjoy some creepy moments in the film.
It is bascially set in an old abandoned school with a bunch of kids and basically a madman ghost type killer (to avoid spoiler I won't give away any more than this). Paul Naschy is as brutal as ever and so that was why I enjoyed it to be honest - there were some quite good death scenes. Other than that it was basically the same as any other average stupied plot storylines.

The Ice Harvest
The Lowdown:
Charlie (John Cusack, Must Love Dogs) and his buddy Vic (Billy Bob Thornton, The Bad News Bears) stole some money (not sure how much, but know it was a lot) from a mob boss (some fat-ass that nobody cares about and barely appears in the movie, surprisingly) and feel they've just pulled off the perfect crime. So, they take it easy since it's Christmas Eve, but that doesn't come at an easy price. Charlie meets up with his ex Renata (Connie Nielsen, The Great Raid) and his old pal Pete (Oliver Platt, Casanova), and is in for the night of his life.
Review:
I'm a big fan of John Cusack, and he hasn't disappointed me here. Sure, there are stale parts that could've been left out (such as him going to Pete's house, where Pete and his mother have a fight). And I'll admit, the ending seemed to drag on (like
Hostage). But, I'll admit it was a fun ride! I loved the scenery, and the whole Christmas season blended in well with the story. The acting was top-notch as usual. Especially by the always helpful Oliver Platt, who delivers most of the laughs in the movie. Drunken arse! The Ice Harvest is worth a watch if you have the time for it (it's only an hour and a half), but it's nothing to go rush to the video store to pick up.
Verdict:

Let me tell you folks: If you haven't seen this one, you are missing out on a damn good film. Sam Neill is an incredible actor, and he is in top form here as insurance investigator John Trent. The supporting cast varries from the great, such as Jurgen Prochnow, to the not-so-great, such as Julie Carmen. The plot is like a bizare crossbreed of H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King, with typical John Carpenter flair. The effects are great, often reminicent of JC's own The Thing. Last but not least, it has got to have one of the coolest endings Ive seen in a long while. Requires more than one viewing to completly graps, but upon this second time, I think Ive figured it out.

Walk the Line
The Lowdown:
A retelling of Johnny Cash's (Joaquin Phoenix, Ladder 49) life and relationship with June Carter (Reese Witherspoon, Just Like Heaven).
Review:
I was always curious when this movie was released if it was just an Oscsar cash-in to Ray. Don't get me wrong I thought it looked great, but this thought always crossed my mind. Especially while viewing Walk the Line.
The first 45 minutes into this film (it clocks in at 2 hours and 15 minutes) were very boring, dull, and seemed to drag on forever. I had a bad feeling that this is how the whole movie was going to turn out. But, I was relieved to find out that it wasn't. Once we get past Johnny's childhood, we get into his life as an aspiring musician, and this is the gas that gets the engine going. At first, the record dealer didn't like Johnny, but, of course, he eventually started playing his "own" songs and got a contract.
Then comes in June Carter, the love interest. I'm not going to say much about her, but that she's hot, funny, and has a good singing voice. Anyway, Johnny falls for her, but we're (or at least I was) confused by her emotions. Now, normally I'd count this as a negative for a movie, but I'm pretty sure this is how she acted. Blah, blah, blah, he makes move on her, she flips out, blah, blah, blah, they try to work things out, blah, blah, blah. Johnny's life was just to damn complicated!
Though there was a lot of shit to figure out, the director held it together well. The acting was great here, but I can't say the same for the supporting actors. They seemed liked bums just pulled off of the street (which they probably were). But, who really gives a rat-ass about them?!? The scenry was nice, and kept in touch with the time period. Yes, there's a happy ending, but that was Johnny's life, so no complaining from me.
Aside from the dull first 45 minutes and bad supporting actors, Walk the Line is one of the few dramas that is definitely worth a watch! Oh, and Return, if you're still renting Oscar-nominated movies, I highly suggest this one! You won't be disappointed (well, at least I hope not)!
Verdict:
4 out of 5 stars

TransAmerica. . . good film with great performance by Felicity Huffman. . . she/he is amazing and has real emotional resonance even while keeping up her character's stilted performance of feminitiy. And, I'll give the film big credit for not resolving everything at the end (either tragically or with big smoochy happy ending).
I'd put my vote for best actress to Huffman at this point. (still haven't seen Mrs. Henderson Presents. . . but Dame Dench is always Dame Dench)

Rush Hour 2 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266915/)
I didnt particularly care for this. It had it's moments, but for the most part it was just a typical buddy comedy, a sub-genre of which I am not a fan. I haven't seen the first one, and after seeing this I have no intension to.
6/10
Muppet Treasure Island (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117110/)
This, on the other hand, was one heck of a movie! I saw it shortly after it came out, so needless to say I hardly remembered any of it. I was a tad worried when my friends suggested it, but I was completly surprised! This is one hilarious movie, with Tim Curry as Long John Silver and the whole Muppet crew as the rest of the cast. While some of the songs weren't great, this was an exciting, funny, and just all-around great flick! Even if you don't think you'd like a movie that features more puppets than humans, I say check it out ye scurvy dogs!
