Wasn't my choice and I really didn't get too into it. I felt like it was made for a different audience and in the movies defense it was. What bothered me most was the fact that all the characters seemed so downtrodden but I couldn't feel an ounce of sympathy for any of them. Maybe it was me, maybe not. Some of the songs were catchy but that whole protest scene was awful in my opinion.

Amalthea, my day goes out to you. Was at a friend's house most of the day, we were planning to have a Disney movie marathon...turns out we only watched 4 movies, and turns out 2 of 'em werent even Disney, and we didn't finish the 4th...but oh well! Great animated flicks that I hadn't seen in years!
The Sword in the Stone (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057546/)
According to my dear ol' dad, this is the very first movie I ever watched, and what a great introduction to the world of film it was! I enjoyed this as much today as ever, in fact I even recall laughing out loud fairly often...mostly at Archimedes the Owl, he was a hoot! [Pun intended]. Even after all these years, I could still sing along to many of the songs:D
8.5/10
Anastasia (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118617/)
Though I did see this film at a relatively young age, I only watched it once and hardly remembered any of it. I quite enjoyed it this time around, with the exception of a few of the songs. Most of the song were pretty catchy though, I still have that "Paris Holds the Key To Your Heart" one stuck in my head! The plot was interesting and exciting, despite criminally straying from the source material. Last but not least, Rasputin made a great villain, hats off to Christopher Lloyd for yet another great performance!
8/10
Rock-A-Doodle (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102802/)
In all honesty, I never saw this as a child. Perhaps that accounts somewhat for why I didn't enjoy it very much. Unlike the other films which had plots that people of all ages could apreciate, this was contrived and full of holes that you could "drive a John Deere tractor through". The song were lackluster and all sounded the same, and the kid that played Edmond brings a whole new level to bad child actors. I did have a few good laughs though, mostly due to the good ol' Patou, so I can't rate it too low.
7/10
Afterwards we watched some of Beauty and the Beast...shall post a proper review once we finish it tomorrow.

Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America
For those who don't know, this is a collection of short films by Douglas Buck, and includes the infamous "Cutting Moments." Which is, by the way, quite possibly the most disturbing film I've ever seen. I've seen plenty of sick movies, but I think this is the first time I've ever actually turned my face away and wanted the movie to stop. The violence is not particularly graphic, but it's presented in such an offhand, casual way that it's really hard to take. I don't think I can rate this film right now, I'm still trying to digest it.

Just Friends
The Lowdown:
Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds, Waiting...) was the fat-ass geek in High School. But, his best friend was miss popular Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart, The Butterfly Effect). Obviously, he had a crush on her, but she thinks they're "just friends" (hence the title). 10 years pass, and now fat-ass is fit and slim and hot as ever. He returns to his hometown to try to hook up with Jamie once and for all. But, things get in teh way, such as Dusty (Chris Klein, The Long Weekend) and ditzy, idiotic (and no, I'm not talking about Jessica Simpson) pop star Samantha James (Anna Faris, Scary Movie 3).
Review:
Ah, the holidays. Snow on the ground, christmas cheer in the air... wait a minute, this is March. This isn't December, the month of giving and getting (and spiked egg nog). But, since Just Friends was released in theaters in december, and since they're not going to wait that dreaded year to release it on DVD (thank God), we get a belated christmas present. So, put this month aside, and pretend it's the holidays (because you probably forgot what month it is anyway), and kick back, drink your egg nog, and masturbate your dick raw as I review the holiday romance comedy, Just Friends.
Now, I've already went over the lowdown, so I guess it's criticizing time! First off, to like this kind of movie, you must be a Ryan Reynolds fan. And I am. In my humble (and horny) opinion, Ryan Reynolds is the epiphemy of comedy right now. He's basically your average comedian/actor, doing his job and making us laugh (and pissing off movie critics like Ebert & Roeper daily). What makes him so special? His retardedness! Wait, that's Johnny Knoxville. What makes Reynolds funny is, that he is funny! There's not much to it. Hot damn, it's not brain surgery (unless your Ebert or Roeper, who are still trying to figure out why they get a bulge in their pants every time they see Reynolds).
The comedy in Just Friends is a hit and miss. At times, you're laughing your ass off at the wildy entertaining Reynolds as he takes dick shot after dick shot (and no, I'm not referring to cum shots, you perverts). But, the comedy misses when everything is repeated time and time again. We've got your point, Reynolds and his brother smack each other. It was only funny the first two times (and when he broke into the bathroom). Now, quit the shit and get on with the movie! God damn!
Anyway, another problem I depicted was the pop diva Samantha James. Her character got so god damned annoying and overused that I could hear my dick groan. This movie did not need her at all, since she just dragged the film done a whole lot. The only reason they put her in there is two full. 1.) To show that Chris is now famous and the school dork, and 2.) To get my dick hard! Only #1 worked out, and not that well (I still think you're hot though Anna. Call me!)
But, not all is lost. I will admit to being a sweetheart, and I was pulling for Chris to get the girl the whole time (even if he was a bigger prick than Ryan Seacrest). Why? Because I can relate to him. He was the high schooler who had all the right moves, but not a single girl noticed. He was sweet, funny, and charming. But, it just dind't work out. And that's where the love and comedy come in. And Ryan Reynolds pulls through on this.
All in all (and one for all), Just Friends is a good comedy romance/holiday film/chick flick that we can all enjoy. Sure, it's not as good as Reynolds (and Faris's) last flick,
Waiting..., but it gets the job done for tonight.
Verdict:
3 and a half stars out of 5

Hercules (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119282/)
Sometime this week I need to have a guys night and pump some horror back into my veins, though I can't say Im not enjoying the multitudes of kids movies Ive seen in the last couple days. This one in particular was my favourite movie for years, saw it in theatres and didnt see anything better until X-Men. This just goes to show that Im still a kid at heart [innocent? *shudder*] because I still LOVED this movie. Easily the best of these animated flicks Ive been watching, everything came together perfectly. The songs, the story, the animation....everything was great. I think the clincher on this one was the apearance of one of the all-time great Disney villains, Hades! James Woods played him to perfection, easily one of my favourite non-horror villains bar none. Overall, I say everyone should see this wether they like this kid of movie or not, you might surprise yourself!

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire
The Lowdown:
It's year 4 in Hogwarts Academy, and Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe, the Harry Potter series) has been chosen to compete in the Triwizard (which shocks everybody since he's 13, and you need to be 17 to be in the tourney) by the goblet of fire! But, problems arise as his best friend Ron (Rupert Grint, the Harry Potter series) strays away from him and Hermoine (Emma Watson, the Harry Potter series) finally finds love, and it isn't Harry!
Review:
I never thought it could get any worse than the last piece of Harry Potter shit The Prisoner of Azkaban, but damn was I wrong! First off, I have the book, but didn't read much of it (since it wasn't good and am not a fan of the Harry Potter books (I got it as a present and I was trying to be generous)). So, I'm not the guy to give you those "book-to-movie" comparisons. Now, on with the damn review!
The Goblet of Fire wasn't Harry Potter at all! Not that many creatures or magic is seen (which is a load of shit), and is way more of a love story! No, I'm shitting you! Goblet turned out being a fantasy love story at Hogwarts. Harry loses best friend, tries to get revenge, his crush Hermoine (and don't give me any shit that he doesn't like her, because it's more obvious and visible than my dick in the mornming) falls in love with another man and he is now depressed. Let alone, he's in a god damned Triwizard Tournament (which we don't see much of, just hear about it a lot and see some off-court punking).
This fucking ruined the whole damn movie! Sure, Prisoner was a big pile of flaming dog shit (you know, the kind you leave on people's porch) and left a stench for miles. But, at least that stayed to the Harry Potter tradition: The magic and the creatures. Goblet destroyed that by slapping in some sappy shit that made me shit my pants worse than the time I had that "weird and unusual" dream about Joan Rivers *shudders*! I fucking hated it!
Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane, Ocean's Twelve) was ruined here! He too had a love interest *cbreaks out in laughter*. Sorry, I just don't see him in a relationship. I can already imagine the date: "Hey, you wanna go to my house and I can cook up some "special" potion for you?" God, I just don't see it happening (though I just did).
Anyway, like I said, Hagrid was ruined here. He gets a lovebird (which, like mentioned before, is laughable and disastrous). But, worse than that is his lack of screen time. What the hell? This guy is an icon in the Harry Potter franchise, and you just give him a few scenes and give him his pay and a big-ass bucket of "Popeye's" chicken. Damn! There was also a disturbing scene in which Harry is getting a bubble bath (wtf?) and that ghost chick that hides out in the bathroom (you know, the one that made your dick come out of your ass), but I'm not getting into that because I'm already having nightmares about it. And I haven't even gone to bed yet!
This movie just blowed! And when I say "blowed" I mean blowed. Like the Paris Hilton "blowed". And it blowed hard (once again, another Paris Hilton reference/insult)! Harry Potter magic and creatures are replaced with sappy love story and Hagrid gets a shit taken on him by the producers! Not worth the almost three hours length.
Verdict:
0 out of 5 stars

Basket Case (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083624/)
I don't think I've posted a review of this one here yet. Let me start out by saying that if you like low budget, cheesy 80's gore flicks, this is one of, if not the best. The plot is so absurd it's hilarious, the gore is very well done, and there are many scenes that are laugh out loud funny. We all know how rare it is to find a good mix of horror and comedy, but this hits it right on the button. Alot of the actors weren'y very good, but I think that just added a certain charm to their characters. Anyone who has seen this will agree that this has some very unforgettable characters, from the various residents of the Hotel Broslin, to the entire Bradley familly, to Duane and Belial themselves, this was definatly a character driven film. And I loved every minute of it.

Lost in Translation
Hmm, well I watched this thinking it would be poo(although I do like Bill Murray) and at the beginning had a pleasant surprise. I had a few laffs and then in the middle the film seems somewhat confused and it kinda tails off from there. An ok offering (worth while for the jogging machine scene) if you have nothing else to do...
6/10
Red Eye
I have to say I really enjoyed this. OK, so it wasn't scary, or a horror film for that matter but it did remind me of something along the lines of a Hitchcock movie (and being a big fan of the big H) I found this film to be quite watchable. I know some people on here have slated it but I liked it for what it was - a basic thriller. Certainly not Craven's best ever effort but I would def. watch again.
7/10
The Amityville Horror (Remake)
Firstly, I must admit to being a BIG fan of the original. Secondly I must admit to being put off by the reviews this film has reeived which is why it has been gathering dust still in it's shrink wrap in my crate of (I'm not sure if I should have bought this - films). well, I wasn't dissapointed in this movie in the sense that I expected shit and what I got was well, a semi - turd. It was an ok horror film - they didn't use the ghost girl as much as I would have liked and I particularly dis-liked the dog killing scene.
6.5/10
Lastly I continued with my 'Dead' Series...
Day of The Dead
I love this film, different as it is to the other two. Yes the characters are not likeable - but there again they are not supposed to be...the double disk edition is a cracking DVD set. Really good documentaries featuring Romero and Savini and most of the cast and I found them to be very informative.
10/10
Next up...Land of The Dead, Woman In Black, Lovers Lane, Wedding Crashers, Curse of the Were Rabbit, Polanski's Oliver Twist and Haute Tension.

K-PAX (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0272152/)
Due to a very misleading advertising campain, I saw this film in theatres at the relatively young age of 10. The trailers on TV portrayed the film as a comedy, and I bugged my parents until they took me. After seeing the movie, I was blown away. I had no idea what to think. Totally different than anything I had seen before, leaving far to many questions for such a young mind. Needless to say, I loved it. This morning was the first time I'd watched in in probably 2-3 years, and I still think it's one of the greatest films made in the last decade. Kevin Spacey and Jeff Bridges are both in top form, as a myterious man who may or may not be from another planet, and the psychiatrist that develops a bond with him while trying to decifer his mystery. The supporting cast are near perfect as well, each resident of the mental insitution is incredibly convincing in their own way. The open ending was handled very well, giving lots of evidance to support whatever you believe happened in the end. How this movie failed to recieve at least a nomination in that year's Oscars is beyond me. If you haven't seen this film, run to Wal-Mart RIGHT NOW. The DVD is usually in the bargain bin, pick it up!
9.5/10
PS- Ive read a couple places that this film steals shamelessly from an earlier film called "Man Facing Southeast". The author of the novel that K-PAX was based on, Gene Brewer, claims that any similarity is purely coincidental. So Im wondering, have any of you seen "Man Facing Southeast"? Is it really that similar? I read the plot on IMDB, and it does sound almost identical...

in the 1st film a man in an institution claims to be from another world. people think he's crazy but he insists so passionately that the psychiatrist becomes convinced (i cant remember in the end if it was determined he was or not)

This has been sitting on my shelf gathering dust for months, so I figured I might as well watch it. I got it for $3 in a bargain bin, so I wasnt expecting much at all, but I got a rather pleasant surprise! Sure, it's not a great movie by any means, full of plot hole and continuity problems, but the actors were actually pretty good for a low budget flick like this. Same goes for the effects. The plot wasn't anything we haven't seen before, but it was handled well. I was pretty disapointed with the "Embo Man" villain in the end....looked like a bad Power Ranger villain. Oh well, it was still alot better than expected for $3!

The Constant Gardener (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387131/)
To avoid starting to sound like Amalthea, I really should run down to the store and rent Boogeyman. I dont think Ive given a film less than 7/10 in weeks, and this is certainly no exception. Rachel Weisz whole-heartedly deserved her Oscar, though I cant quite understand why it was for supporting actress rather than actress in a leading role. In fact the entire cast was phenominal, with special nods going out to Bill Nighy and, of course, the always great Ralph Fiennes. The plot had me guessing until the very end, and while the final outcome was unavoidable, I was still somewhat surprised. A word of warning however: If you're like Posher, and dismiss movies simply for being "boring", this is not for you. The majority of the film is talking and there is very little action. If that kind of film bothers you, leave this one on the shelf. Otherwise, I highly recomend it.

I did manage to get in one movie this week....and i only watched it because my son brought it home from the video store in which he works......i've been bugging him for "Venom" since it came out.
Not a bad movie, as far as these go. Some good acting, some good kills.....very "Pumpkinhead" kinda feel to it.....what with the swamp setting and voodoo and all.
Not as predictable as you would think either.

I hadn't watched this movie in over 10 years. I remembered being pretty indifferent to it when I first viewed it (didn't live up to the hype) but now that I'm a decade older, I was able to appreciate it a lot more. There's a little more to it than exploitation for exploitations' sake (like I consider Last House on the Left to be.) Still, it is what it is; enjoyable, nonetheless. 7/10

Never read the book so dont have that for a frame of reference. I think this film means alot to me mainly because its the first film I really remember watching. The message didnt mean much at the time, it was just the spectacle that drew me in and at the time (I was about 6 at the time) it was a really scary film. I will always hold this in high affection but the religious aspect of it is too heavy handed for cynical wretch like me.

First off, I should say that Im not sure if I watched the Director's Cut or the original version. I downloaded it not long ago, and the file didn't specify which version it was. Anyway, on with the review. I really didn't know what to expect from this movie, having heard many different opinions over the last little while. After watching it, Im still not sure what I thought of it. While I didnt like his character very much, it's hard to deny that Jake Gyllenhaal gave a very good performance asthe title character. Something about him just seemed out of place and strange, which suited the character well. I dont think there was a single likeable character in this film, except maybe Donnies girlfriend. I dont see what everyone finds so hard to get about the ending, I thouhgt it was a good ending, dont get me wrong, but pretty straight forward. Overall, I'd recomend seeing this one, but I wouldnt buy it. More of a curiosity than anything.
8/10
EDIT - I did think that it was a nice touch casting real-life siblings Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal as siblings in the film.

And the streak is broken...
Swamp Thing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084745/)
I had high hopes for this one, thinking perhaps Craven could redeem himself for me. Alas, I should have known it was doomed from the opening credits: Adrienne Barbeau and Wes Craven's names on screen within moments of each other spells disaster. Barbeau has got to be one of the worst looking successful eye-candy actresses Ive ever seen. Am I the only one that doesnt find her attractive in the least? And Craven...I wont even get in to Craven. Suffice to say, Im not a fan. Anyway, the plot was good enough, about a scientist that is nearly killed when his lab is raided, and is turned into a Swamp Thing by is formula. Ray Wise was pretty good as Alec Holland, the ill-fated scientist, and was one of only two decent actors involved. The other was of course Louis Jourdan, playing the villain to perfection. The other actors were awful, however it may have been due to some of the laughably bad lines they were given. Alongside the actors were horrible effects such as people flying many feet into the air after being thrown from a small boat, or monster costumes that look like they were bought at half price on the day after Halloween. In parts, the film had a very comicbook-like feel to it, which I liked, but at other points it took itself much too seriously. It didnt really seem to know if it was a serious film, or a fun comic book movie. If it had decided on one or the other, it could have been a good film, but despite a few good scenes....it wasnt very good at all.
6/10
Thankfully, that wasnt the only movie I watched tonight...
The Return of Swamp Thing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098193/)
Every once in awhile, a sequel is a million times better than the original. This is just such a sequel! If you look up a bit, you'll see that I didnt care to much for Swamp Thing. This, on the other hand, was great! They decided to go with the over-the-top comicbook style that the original skirted, which made the movie alot more enjoyable. The effects improved greatly, the creatures in this actually looked like some effort was put into them! I especially liked the updated Swamp Thing costume, made him look alot better and more intimidating. Louis Joudan was thankfully back, and his character, Dr. Anton Arcane, was even better than ever! His step-daughter Abby, played by Heather Locklear, was one of many great comic relief characters, along with the bumbling head of security named Gunn, and many others. The side plot with two kids trying to get Swampy's picture was a tad annoying, but it had it's amusing moments. Overall, this was a great intentionaly cheesy B-movie, that you really should check out!

when swamp thing was initially released it had some Adrienne Barbeau nudity. It was quickly pulled and rereleased without the nudity.
is there a new version now with the nudity back in ?
the reason i'm asking is that i picked up a copy used some time ago and it happened to be the initial release ... and it (at least at one time) was worth a lot of $$$ on ebay..(it was sheer luck i got it as i didnt know about the censoring until later - and i paid about 8$ for it)

My Neighbour Totoro (Hayao Miyazaki)
this is one of the most lovable sweet and brilliantly animated films of all time,.
I have this on laserdisc, an older pan and scan DVD copy (i recently had it on VHS) and I just picked it up again as Disney rereleased it - letterboxed and voiced by Dakota and Elle Fanning as the two sisters.
Excellent rerelease. a bargain at twice the price.
for those that havent seen it (who have an open mind for fantasy animation) you should get this film immediately. A simple but endearing story, great characters, another terrific Joe Hisaishi score, and some unforgettable visuals.
You can tell Miyazaki loves - or at least deeply understands children and he captures them perfectly - how they move, their little idiosyncracies, etc ..
always a favorite of mine - I'm thrilled that Disney picked this up to distribute - along with all the other Ghibli releases.
I think Spirited Away is the all time Miyazaki classic - but Totoro will always be my personal favorite.

The Weather Man
I was pleasantly surprised by how good it is... The trailer was so vague that I didn't have any idea what the movie was about aside from Nicolas Cage playing a weather guy that gets things thrown at him...
But it's really about his relationships with family members... The acting is great and the movie is very funny when it tries to be. There's a lot of narration of his action and thoughts and they are very well scripted. I recommend it to someone looking for a good drama/comedy combo.

Steve-0: Out on Bail.
Not as laugh-out-loud funny as Jackass, but more disgusting - the scene in PCP Saved My Life where his pal shits on him when he is asleep (and his hilarious botched reaction to this) is one of the crudest ever.

Kids in America
A funny and even inspiring high school comedy. Loved the story of how the kids were rebelling against the schoolboard for dumb suspensions (in which I agreed with the students) and I hated Principal Weller. They should've chopped off her head and put it in a museum for display. Sure, I would've kept Nicole Richie out of teh cast, but she didn't appear to much to bother me. FACTOID: This was inspired by a true story (not my review, the movie).

Empire of the Ants
A good, campy, silly 70's movie based on and H.G. Wells story. It's about giant mutated ants attacking a tour group. I was surprised as to how good the ants looked. Id din't think it was possible back then since we don't have this CGI shit! And this, is a good thing! Not the best watch, but a good, fun fucking ride!
3 out of 5 stars.
Scream 2
I watched this a year and a half ago on AMC and wasn't much of a fan of it. I re-viewed it because I thought that since it was on TV, it was trimmed down and that's why I didn't like it. But, I was wrong. Besides the F bombs, AMC aired it in its originality. But, this time around, I hated it even more! The plot was horrendous (must've went through a lot of re-writes) and killing off Sarah Michelle Gellar quickly was a shitty idea since she played Buffy at the same time. She can kick Vampire ass, but she can't even put up a fight against a dumbass in a mask. Pathetic! And, don't get me started on that "Top Gun" sing-a-long bullshit! My dick can sing better than that (It's hit single is "I'll Cum for You). The worst of the trilogy!

I couldnt be happier to see no other than Alexander Aja do this film. I thought he did an amzing job on Haute Tension. The Hills Have Eyes blew my mind as a remake. It kept much of the same plot as the original. Probobly one of the most violent R-Rated films ive seen in a long time. I dont know how this sick puppy slipped past the mpaa. THHE was highly entertaining all the way through, and deffinatly showed no mercy. I highly reccomend this remake.

the reason i'm asking is that i picked up a copy used some time ago and it happened to be the initial release ... and it (at least at one time) was worth a lot of $$$ on ebay..(it was sheer luck i got it as i didnt know about the censoring until later - and i paid about 8$ for it)
be interesting to know if it still is worth anything ..
There was some brief Barbeau nude shots, of her bathing in the swamp. You didnt see a whole lot, it was shot from fairly far away, and she was submerged to her belly button or so. You see her get out of the water, still from afar, and you can see part of her behind and her breasts. Is this what you are talking about? If so, I doubt that it's very rare. I got my copy for around $10 brand-new on Ebay.

Madhouse [2004] (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363276/)
As far as movies go, Ive had one heck of a week. Nothing that was overly terrible, the worst movie I watched was Swamp Thing. Seeing that I go back to school on Monday, this is probably one of the last films Ill get to see for awhile...and what a way to cap off a great film-watching week! As you may or may not know, Im a huge fan of films set in mental hospitals. Session 9, House on Haunted Hill remake, the list goes on. Well, Madhouse started out like a typical asylum flick: A young doctor arrives at the hospital, becomes aquainted with some patients and staff members, gets tricked into thinking a patient is a doctor...you know, the usual stuff. Until about 15-20 minutes in, it sticks to the formula. After it's introduced the characters however, you know you're in for a different kind of film. I cant say much more aout the plot without giving it away, but suffice to say there are some very creepy moments. The actors are surprisingly good, with no real stand-out performances. The entire cast was great. With the exception of a few really corny lines, the script seemed to be written well. The ending is the main drawback of the movie, but I wont spoil it for you by explaining how. Ill just say that the Alternate Ending on the DVD was MUCH better. Overall, this is a great movie. No more needs to be said, just go rent it and you shouldn't be disapointed!

Pretty insightful, a little dull at times, but i chose a great plan of attack by reading the book, watching the movie 3 times and then watching the movie with commentary. He certainly does a lot of book-to-movie comparisons, which was what I was looking for.

more mature disney fare (compared to the origional)

The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
Here is yet another very positive review of The Hills Have Eyes remake for you HorrorWhores. First off, this is pretty much the same thing as the original, excpet with a new cast (obviously) and a helluva lot of more gore. Speaking of gore, this is one of the goriest, bloodiest, grisliest movies in movie cinema (Dead Alive still being the goriest)! A must-see, and the best damn remake I've seen! A great homage to Wes Craven's classic!

Doom (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0419706/)
As far as big-budget, explosion filled, mindless action flicks based on video games go, this has got to be one of the best. The Rock always shines in films like this, and this was no exception. His character Sarge, along with his BFG, was one of the highlights of the movie for me. In fact, I thought all the actors were pretty good, considering what kind of movie this is. Th effects were phenominal, more proof that when used well, CGI looks amazing. I loved the combination of practical and computer effects, the monsters looked great. I was rather annoyed by the fight in the end, looked really stupid and out of place. The first-person scene, however, by all means deserves the praise that it has been getting, I really enjoyed it. Overall, I say check this one out if you're in the mood for a movie that you don't need to put much thought into.

I actually thought the oposite about the 1st person scene. IMO, it went downhill at the Pinky-Demon part. I still thought that part was good, of course, but I enjoyed the rest of that sequence more. The fight with the Pinky-Demon just seemed to last way longer than it needed to, slashing it with a chainsaw only looks cool for so long.
I actually liked how they were just infected humans, gave it more of a zombie film quality.

*Minor spoilers for Doom*
Agreed that there wast enough zombie action, but it does explain why they dont all turn into Demons. Remember when Goat "woke up" and killed himself? That was to show that they dont turn into Demons right away, it takes time. Just like any zombie movie, nobody turns immediatly and everyone takes a different amount of time. If the movie took place an hour or two later, there would have been a hell of alot more Demons roaming around.

High Tension - It was a impulse buy, I mean who could pass up a blood soaked woman holding a gore covered cement cutter? I know I can't but the movie itself disappointed me. It started out as a French movie dubbed in English but then became a French movie with English subtitles and then back to a French movie dubbed in English.

It's funny that you mentioned that part...Because I was telling Dustin, with each step she took forward, "Watch...She's going...she's going....she's...*whoosh*....gone"....Who DIDN'T know that was coming?...The only one that kinda took me by surprise was the first one "They're listening"...*whoosh*....But, I knew that dude was dead anyway, as soon as he started talking....What I couldn't figure out was, why would he talk to avoid being HIT, while knowing that NOT talking would keep him from getting KILLED?....I think I'd choose a beating over death pretty much any day...

No, in the R1 special edition it does that by default, some subtitles and some dubbing. One of my friends who saw it said that maybe one of the families spoke something other than French and the visiting girl was the only French one or the other way around. I don't know, there are options to do all dubbed or all subtitled.

I thought it was an ok movie... for a brainless action flick. Anyway, just watched The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave.
Not bad, good ole' Itallian horror, lots of naked ladies running around though.

The Bunker (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252963/)
I've started to watch this on a few different occasions, but for whatever reason I've never gotten the whole way through. Until tonight that is, and I wish I hadn't put it off so long! Though it moves at a very slow pace, it's worth it in the end. There are some very tense and creepy scenes, especially once the soldiers begin to lose their grip on sanity near the end of the film. I do have some gripes with the movie however. First off, I cant quite fathom why a battalion of German soldiers all has British accents. Sure, the actors were good and everything, but you think they would have at least tried to sound German, eh? That aside however, this is a surprisingly tense and atmospheric horror film. Any worries that I may have had about Rob Green directing the Dog Soldiers sequel are officially washed away.

You hadn't heared about that? It's been in production for quite awhile...could be hit or miss judging by the plot. But like I said, after watching The Bunker, Im not worried. Rob Green made a very good, claustrophobic horror film, and I cant see why he wouldnt be able to pull it off again.

He should just make a totally different movie, dog soldiers ended, like it was THE END. Now a prologue... that would be cool.

The Lion King, great voice acting, even Mr. Bean does an excellent job in this animated gem. I was surprised I liked it as much if not more than I did when I first saw it.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which wasn't bad, I'll probably watch it again but I noticed a LOT during the first viewing so I don't know if it will help.

"Dodgeball" 8/10
3rd time i see this, but first time on DVD. Still cracks me up.
But what i want to mention/recommend from the dvd is actually the Commentary feature made by director Thurber, Vaughn & Stiller.
This is without a doubt the most messed up, crazy īn hilarious audio commentary iīve ever heard. Itīs kind of a little story in its own weird way with Vaughn being a delightful self-centred prick with a drinking problem.
Basically itīs Thurber, Vaughn & Stiller trashing each other thoughout the first 50 minutes of the commentary track and then......... Surprise, surprise. ;)
"Last house on the left" 5/10
Neither great or horrible.

Haute tension (Uncut)
I popped this into my DVD player last night with trepadation. I have heard some good things and a lot of bad so I had put off watching it until now...
I started watching around 1am last night and the wind was howling and the rain pouring ( typical Manchester weather) so I fugured it was a good time to watch a horror movie.
Within first 20 minutes I was hooked - it really did make me tense and the death scenes...just simply wow!
SPOILER
HOWEVER - I must agree with alot of people on this site. The ending for me spoilt it a little, I had a feeling something like that would come along because of all the mentions on here of a twist etc. I would have much preferred it if has been kept simple...ending with her killing him and closing on her screaming etc But, it didn't end this way, it was a shame as it spoilt it a bit but I still loved this movie.

*Spoilers*
Well here I sit at my computer, with my foot firmly planted in my mouth. While this wasn't a great film by any means, it completly and totally shattered my expectations. Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams were great toghether on screen, played off each other very nicely and had a great chemistry between them. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Mr. Murphy's character was the highlight of the film. He went from Mr. Gentleman to psycho in 2.5 seconds, which I thought was a nice transition. He didnt waste any time and got right to the point of the film, which I must say caught me off guard. A Hollywood movie that didn't waste time? Amazing! As the film wore on however, I started to remember that this was a Wes Craven movie; it had to go downhill sometime. The scene where Jackson headbutts Lisa, am I the only one that thinks people would notice that? How bout the infamous stabbing, how did she think that would help her situation? Seemed to me that it was just an excuse for Craven to throw in an overlong chase sequence. Last but not least, how about that missle near the end? That was some really bad CGI! Overall however, this was a fairly enjoyable film. Not to be taken seriously, but certainly an above-average diversion.

Jarhead
An okay war movie, but was more and less comically heartwarming than anything. Sure, every now and then we'd get something dramatic (such as Jakey boy's girlfriend cheating on him in the U.S., or, as the troops and sergeants like to say, boning Jody). For me, there wasn't much to work with besides the humor in the movie. Not something to rush to see by any means, but worth a look if you've got the time.

2 and 3 are very good sequels, IMO. How's 4? I've never seen it, is it the one with the girl?
Anyway, my last seen was:

Great movie, one of my favorites, I've seen it quite a few times and it's not getting old.

The Satanic Rites of Dracula (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070634/)
Ive had this one on my mind ever since Alky made his thread about it. I didnt have aything better to do tonight, so I figured that I might as well pop this one in for my evening's entertainment. Well first off, it's not hard to tell that this was made in the 70's. The music and the styles of hair and clothing certainly give it away, but I think that gives it a charm of sorts. Cushing and Lee were great as always, although Lee was was very underused this time around. I dont think he got to say a single thing until over an hour into the film! Oh well, Cushing's preformance made up for Lee's absence, I guess. Christopher Lee did have a great entrance, if nothing else...the smoke billowing around him and the lighting from behind made for a great effect. Though many complain about it, I thought this was a very unique and interesting take on the classic Dracula story. Though Im not usually a fan of satanic conspiracy films, I throughly enjoyed this, and I reccomend it despite it's dated feel.

The Eye
Nicely done Movie with good story to support. Loved it.
North Country - 7/10 - some great performances (esp. McDormand and Spacek, both are not in the film nearly enough) and an important topic. That said, I thought the excessive focus on the main character (theron) limited the impact of the film as about sexual harrassment and misogyny. in the end it felt too much like a personal story about her peculiar past and relationships than about broader social issues. also the court room scenes are used to very limited and ultimately unrealistic effect. harrelson and sean bean also turn in fair performances and theron is beautiful and well-accented, but not much real development. i did enjoy seeing the dad from six feet under in this role - though he was also very 2-dimensional (as were all the 'perpetrators'). i couldn't help but think about how well the film 'The Accused' worked similar kinds of issues with a nuance and skill that built real horrific tension - where this film just felt muddled.
OK......I couldn't take it anymore...so after yet another American fucking Idol, i says to my wife...."wife....you best go to bed cause i need me a horror movie fix."
I watched "Evil Breed--The Legend of Samhain"
Not as bad as you would expect...we got not one but two porn stars in it, some decent gore
