Not as good people told me. Good acting from Sam L. and Christina but very a predictable film. Justin Timberlake can NOT act. He should stop immediately.
The music is the best part of the film.

I went to see Die Hard 4.0 with an open mind, and contrary to expectations, its quite an entertainer!

Mind-boggling action sequences (combined with CGI but of course), and of course Bruce Willis! He gets to say the most famous line too without any cuts.:D

A total no-brainer, hardcore action flick. Best action I ve seen all year, beats FF4: Rise of the Silver Surfer & Spidey 3 by a long long mile.

Definitely recommended for all "Die-Hard" action fans. Others wont complain either.

I don't believe you......;) Haven't seen this yet, will have to get to it soon.

Breaking Dawn ~ not the crapfest implied by the cover and the tagline, but its been done many times before, and done much better. Predictable.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada ~ tedious at times, but the acting is great and it wasn't what I was expecting. Good film.

Fear of Clowns ~ Lame.....

Ring Around the Rosie ~ Lamer......

Insomnia Manica ~ okay, this is what it says about this movie on the back "High powered, heart stopping intensity"......I think they may have put the wrong movie in the case.....;) It was too long, the first hour was frustratingly slow, the characters were annoying.....I suppose some of the second half showed some promise and it had some good ideas. But that's the best thing I can say about it.

I liked the first 10 minutes. It felt fresh and fun. Like a comedy slasher version of "The Blair witch project".

But unfortunatly the fresh style got tiresome and boring fast and the rest of the movie ended up sucking... ASS!!!

Nathan Baesel did a great job playing Leslie Vernon though. Hope to see him in better horror movies in the near future.

Black Snake Moan: Very well done. Atmosphere poured out of this one, and you could tell the talents involved gave it their very best. A lot of care was put into it. Justin Timberlake seemed oddly miscast though. It wasn't too bad, but he sort of... stuck out as the only weak point.

Ugh! Whoever thought Artie Lang could carry a movie must have never seen his comedy before. There were a handful of funny moments but for the most part, this was just painful to sit through. Totally contrived plot, really weak script & dialogue, mediocre acting and way too many unfunny jokes. This movie sucked, don't waste your time.

D-

Black Snake Moan

If there was a point to this movie, then I must have missed it. Samuel L. Jackson & Christina Ricci both do a superb job acting their parts and Justin Timberlake does a decent job of portraying a spastic crybaby, but the plot is just beyond stupid. I was hoping the ending would give relevance to the rest of the film, but unfortunately, that was not the case. On the contrary, the sappy ending made a lame film even lamer. As far as I can tell, there wasn't much more going on than a skanky whore that gets chained up by an old balck dude until she learns the error of her whore-ish ways. For me, the sole redeemingly quality in this film was Ricci's hooters, but even those were tainted by the white trashiness of her character.

D-

Man.... I need to watch something I know is good now. Too many crap movies in a row makes the prospect of watching any film lose it's appeal.

Black Snake Moan is a character study, of a handful of people and the area they live in. It depicts a time frame in these peoples lives - not the entire cycle, because... that would take a long time. In a realistic sense; problems do not fade right away, everything is not perfect, and the story doesn't end when the credits roll. That's why I like Black Snake Moan. It doesn't give you a bullshit ending. The characters will continue to struggle with their problems, they are not cured instantly and treated to the perfect life. I hope you understand what I'm trying to convey... because I suck at explaining even my own thoughts.

So yeah... the point was... to present a universe with these characters; to bring them to life and create an atmosphere around them... along with dropping a few low-key messages along the way. Nothing ever DOESN'T have a point... it's just that some are really bad or might be missed easily. :)

I didn't really know much about this film going in to it so I didn't know what to expect. It turned out to be pretty entertaining. Wahlberg & Glover do a good job in their roles, the action scenes are done pretty well, the main drawback for me was that the whole plot seemed totally unbelievable. It just didn't seem plausible that such a massive & far reaching set up could be carried out without anyone but 1 rookie FBI agent raising an eyebrow.

If you can overlook the fact that this entire story is based on a situation that is extremely unlikely, then this film is pretty entertaining.

Presenting a universe with characters and a few messages was the point of the film? Well, I guess if that counts as a point, then yes, every film has a point because every movie presents a universe with characters and messages.

A bit more specific, I'd say the film's point was "Don't be a whore" but to me, that's kind of a stupid point to base a film around. I was not entertained by it all, although like I mentioned, the acting was spot on.

Really cool and really stylistic, but it's really only for those fans of old b/w noir spy thrillers like Notorious. I'd go so far as to say Soderberg made his "Grindhouse" but as an ode to Bogey and Bacall, not Corman and Hill. Not as good as the material it references, but a loving tribute to a bygone film style nonetheless. Excellent use of stock footage & rear screen projection give it a great period feel. If the storytelling had been a bit more cohesive I'd give it a higher rating, but It's another solid, entertaining outing from Soderberg and Clooney. Highly recommended to Alky, Neverending, Crabby & Newb...Zwoti might dig it too.

Transformers

It was a LOT better than I thought it would be, and while I'm not a giant Transformers nerd I did own all the metal toys when I was a kid so I went in knowing a bit about the franchise. One tiny part bothered me though. I don't mind product placement at all, but at one point they paused on a product as if to give us enough time to read the brand name. Oh, and what about that JJ Abrams trailer? The first thing I thought was Godzilla and I see somebody on IMDB thought that too. I guess it's called "Cloverfield", Sick-As and V have posted that... I can't wait for it. Why does that man have to be so mysterious all the time? Ah well, looks to be a kick ass movie whatever it is.

Yup, went to see Transformers on thursday night.
Greatly impressive effects...although it coulda used a lot more of the whole "chi-koo-ka--ka-ka-ka-ka!" sound...I love it so...
Anyways, it looked great and was actually pretty funny in parts.
The action, well...big robots fighting eachother, and/or chasing humans...I guess it was pretty well done.
It seems that the Transformers and Deceptecons could've used a little more dialogue, especially the deceptecons, which felt a bit hollow.
Of course I went completely stoned, and focused mainly on the visual aspects which were all pleasing - the plot won't win any awards, but it was pretty decent.

I could see that, but there were two of them weren't there? Or three actually... the Nokia got turned into one. I was happy with Optimus, he looked almost just like I remembered him. Bumblebee looked more like Hotshot though. Anyway, the first time I saw that little guy turn into a boombox I laughed and said "Soundwave", don't think my friends got it.

I didn't like this. I think for anyone to find this film remotely creepy, they'd need to have a phobia of dolls, but since I do not, I just thought it was lame. The acting was fine, the gore was pretty tame with two or three cool scenes mixed in, the story was REALLY stupid. Ending was a step in the right direction, but it was too little , too late.

I could see that, but there were two of them weren't there? Or three actually...
I know...just like there were more'n one of them in the series, I clearly remember 3 (the good guys had some too...) called Laserbeak, Rumble, and Ravage...I know that none of them really represented any of those, but, they did come out of one of the bigger ones, no?

I actually didn't mind what they did with bumblebee...he was very much "as was" in spirit. Still the "friendly" one, Still the one with most contact to the humans.
I still didn't like the "mouth" on optimus...or the flames, but otherwise he looked great.
The beauty of it would have to be the transformation effects though...awesome.

Anyone that enjoyed this might want to have a look at the film "The Returner", to see and interesting take on the "transformer" thing.

Black Snake Moan

A fun and sleazy blues parable that takes a filthy (and almost John Waters-esque) premise and turns it into a redemptive tale of salvation and unconditional love. Not the world's greatest story, but the characterizations are rich, the acting is stylized and cool and the music is brilliant. The R.L. Burniside-style bucket-o-blood blues makes everything feel tawdry. Not for everyone, but my kind of cinema.

Dead Silence.
Not bad, fairly good atmosphere.
I don't think it was quite as intense a film as the saw franchise, but I suppose they did an alright job of it all the same.
Personally didn't find it terrifying, but I'm sure some would - The whole doll thing. Some looked sinister, far too many of them just looked mongoloid though, and the "main" one, well all I could think about was how much it reminded me of the one from that Goosebumps?
Nice effects.
Interesting twist as per the James Wan style...but hey...let's not go all M NIGHT and do it with every damn thing, eh?
It was at least moderately good, with a storyline that brings about thoughts of nightmare on elm street and skelaton key...pretty obviously inspired from a few different things, but didn't suffer too badly from it.

Overall 6/10

The Minus Man ~ interesting look in the mind of a serial killer.....solid performance by Owen Wilson.

Straight into Darkness ~ its depressing and very uneven (too many flashbacks muddle it a bit). Different than what I was expecting. Glad I watched it, not sure I would recommend it though.

Satan's Playground ~ funny in places, but unintentionally so. Not much else going for it.

Satanic ~ Okay, why does it say that Jeffrey Combs is the star when he is barely in it?? UGH. ;) Better than Satan's Playground, but not by much.

The Woods ~ not as good as May in my opinion, but not bad at all. Well shot, and though it borrows a lot from other films, some good ideas. Always good to see Bruce Campbell. :D Actually some pretty decent acting all around here.

Creep ~ Some very effective scenes. Overall, I wasn't really impressed, but it is still fun.

The animation was pretty cool & the setting was definately creative but I found the story to be kinda complicated and the film, as a whole, to be too long for an animated tale. It was okay, but I wasn't blown away by any means.

How long should an animated movie be?

Have you been in a bad mood lately?

Just wondering, because you've given quite a few rather good films negative reviews as of late. I'd give Howl's Moving Castle a B+. It's endlessly inventive and entertaining.

Maybe I'll give it another shot, but I saw it in the theater when it came out and was terribly disappointed. It seemed like an endless string of missed opportunities. The Good German

7.5/10
I really, really, really wanted to see this in theaters (I mean, c'mon, a nod to Bogey film?!) but never got around to it.

The Chumscrubber - A dark comedy my ass. I love dark comedies... but this wasn't funny at all, not even in the dark sense. In fact, I bawled. I absolutely loved this movie; it's not perfect... the acting would be the weakest point (still it's at all bad), but this is my kind of movie. I loved it.

Prince of Darkness

I'm not usually a big fan of devil/occult type horror but John Carpenter executed this film brilliantly.. Good acting, likable characters, decent low budget gore, interesting and unique plot, and an unexpected ending make this one worth checking out.

B+

I m glad you finally got around to watching that excellent movie. Glad you liked it.

The effects are some crazy shit huh?
One of the better, more original vampire films to come out in quite some time.
Waiting patiently for the cinema release of the sequel.

Saw the latest harry potter at the cinema today.
As per usual, a lot from the books just skimmed over...but it wasn't bad...just seems like the films are just like "hmmm...ok" after seeing the first few.
Relatively faithful adaptation, but I much preferred the Cuaron guy that directed the third one, better feel.
I guess if the other films are good enough for you, this one will be too.
Nice effects and good to see some wizard on wizard fights...

As of this morning, I ve rummaged through the racks of my DVDs and started to re-run the all-time greats.

Catching up on the all-timers series #1...

John Carpenter's The Thing. 09/10

Dont need to say anything about this one. Most of us know its pretty much flawless entertainment.

The only minor flaw which I always have noticed is that the scientists of the base dont tackle such a fatal problem with some level-headed thinking and logic, but MacReady, the helicopter pilot does? Hmm...

I do have a couple of small questions to anyone who's seen the original The Thing From Another World.

Since I havent seen the original yet, is JC's version different from the original, plot-wise and screenplay-wise?

And, is it better than JC's version? (I know the effects are different being 30 years apart, but what I really want to know concerns the atmosphere and the pace)

It's pretty different in tone, mostly because of the time difference, but they're both supreme films of the genre. There is a scene in Howard Hawks' version that qualifies as one of the most genuinely terrifying scenes in horror history.

I'll always defend a Howard Hawks film, so I hgihly recommend it. But I would have to say (and this is rare for me to say) that JC's remake is equally as good, if not better than, the original. Both are spot-on as far as breathtaking, heart-pounding pace, and mysterious sci-fi horror.

But V- trust me here, my friend. You definately need to do yourself a favor and check out The Thing From Another World. (And lemme know what you think of it afterwards!)

Actually, Robert Mitchum played a much better Max Cady than DeNiro. The film certainly looks great, with elegant suspense shots and beautiful noir, but the cotton candy ending leaves a sour taste.

Alien. 09/10

I love this movie! The eye for details, the desolateness and darkly mysterious planet, and the characters...each of em unique in their attitudes and mentality. Ridley Scott is one of the finest in this genre.

The only unanswered question was the spaceship. We see it in Aliens too (on the uncut DVD version anyway). Where had it come from? Guess the makers wanted to answer it in a sequel/prequel which never got made, or maybe that was the idea behind the Cameron-Scott team-up for Alien 5, which was scrapped by Fox.

This is the lowest point thus far of a franchise taht's already gone down the shitter. The plot makes no sense and isn't the slightest bit congruent with previous storylines. The acting is mediocre. The gore is alright, but for the most part this one just sucks.

Leonard Part 6

This is one of those under-rated so-stupid-its-funny comedys. Bill Cosby keeps it clean so it's along the lines of UHF or one of the Ernest Goes To.. films, all of which I enjoy. Dracula. 09/10

Awesome movie. Fantastic portrayal of Lugosi as the Count. Thoroughly enjoyable from first to last, and doesnt have one dull moment. In my opinion, the best movie made on the legend of Dracula yet. Today's generation might say that the movie is slow, but my dearies, absorb the atmosphere of this one and you will be so frightened of Lugosi that you cant sleep for nights. Dwight Frye as Renfield is another really strong character.

If you consider yourself a horror fan and a bonafide member of HDC, you must have watched it already. If not, (get the F out!!:D ) do yourself a HUGE favor and watch it. Right NOW.

Hated: G.G. Allin and the Murder Junkies

A documentary on the life of one of the most infamous punk rockers of all time. This guy was so disturbed that he made Sid Vicious look like a choir boy. His antics included self-mutilation and defecating on stage. As if that wasn't enough, he would then proceed to eat his own shit.

Don't watch unless you have a strong stomach.

Beowulf and Grendel

I must admit that I am a sucker for anything associated with viking lore, so this review may be tainted by my deep love of the genre, but I really enjoyed this one and wasn't expecting it to be so damned entertaining. The location shooting alone gives a this treatment of the epic poem a sense of reality that one rarely sees. Sure Grendel's costume showed a few seams, but he was there, not CG and for that I was appreciative. I didn't particularly care to see Hrothgar's portrayed as such a pussy, but I liked Gerard Butler and Sarah Polley and really enjoyed Ingvar Eggert Siguršsson's embodiment of Grendel.

I'm still looking forward to Zemekis' super high dollar version of this tale, but this one was quite fun.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

Good- very good- but nowhere near the last one. It just wasn't...personal enough. I didn't seem to connect with anyone as much this time around, and, if I hadn't seen the rest of the bunch, or read the book, I wouldn't have connected much at all.
It did contain some of the most incredible visuals I've seen to date, and advanced far past its predecessors in that sense. The storyline was always kept, somehow, believable, and never reached a point of cheese; the pacing, in fact, was unbelievably good, and it feels nowhere near its two-point-five hour running time.

Questions: Where can I get Hermione's phone number?
Concerns: No Quidditch...
