**SPOILERS***
I think that part ultimately ruined the uncomfortable atmosphere. i mean, i felt a little bit upset that she went through all that but died at the end, but the remote part kinda made it seem less effective, as if, "oh, i guess its okay, its just a movie."

another aspect to the film that i disliked; the villians were the furthest thing from intimidating or creepy. I think it was sort of the point, but i disliked it either way.

*MORE SPOILERS*

The one thing it did effectively is make the audience take a look at themselves as voyeurs that continue to watch the torture and murder even though they know the two villains couldn't lose. I didn't like the trick but the movie itself was a bit flat for me anyway, the cartoonish jump in time only added to the problems. Not a bad movie but not one of my favorites.

Just watched Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie for Theaters again, I really liked the whole movie but the first fifteen minutes were classic.

i did like the bird-thingys sequence in the bamboo .. that was about it.

even that seemed forced to me. and pardon my nerdish nitpicking, but based on the animals in the movie, it takes place in south america, asia and africa. that is a lot of fucking walking. plus, i despise movies that make a bog deal out of details, but never explain why.

I half expected to find out that the god-man was the little girl-boy that played Ra in stargate, since roland emerich made that too.

Funny Games US. Just to see what the hubub was all about. I did not like how they broke the 4th wall at all. As a drama student, that was a piss off. Same with the remote. Breaking the 4th wall did have one pro, which was that I found myself yelling at the screen. I just assumed they could hear me back. Overall, a disturbing movie that goes on the list of movies I can't makeout during. Right below Haute Tension.

Charisma – A Kiyoshi Kurosawa film about a disgraced ex-police officer who heads to the countryside and gets caught up in some weirdness around a special tree. I like Kurosawa’s movies generally – especially Cure, Seance and Pulse – but this was boring and not that interesting.

Mystic River.

Very hard-hitting movie from the Eastwood stable. Sean Penn and Tim Robbins are perfectly cast into their roles, but the real scene stealer is Thomas Guiry. What an amazing performance the man has delivered! Add to it flawless cinematography and an amazing script, complimented by a director who infuses sheer dynamite into his skill.

A must watch for anyone who is a fan of the Eastwood school of filmmaking, AND it is also a must watch for anyone who likes serious, gritty and mind-blowing cinema. Recommended by me to all my HDC mates.

Yep, you need to see High Plains Drifter...it's pretty much Eastwood's homage to his work with Leone, and it's easily one of the coolest westerns that I've ever seen. His character is essentially just "the Man with No Name" again, only more badass than ever.

Because an American producer will pay you to remake your own film with American actors speaking English for an American theatrical release. Very few foreign films get a theatrical release in the USA. Certainly not horror movies. Sometimes the original director is willing to do it- why not? It's income for them and they will give it more care than some other director would.

It used to be a common occurance in Hollywood to shoot versions of a movie in various languages at the same time as the original. This isn't all that different.

Like the director felt the need to tell the audience, "don't worry, it's only a movie. ;)".

Made all the cruel things that kept happening more digestible, i thought. I'm not very hardcore. :o

That too but he wanted to comment on violence in cinema and voyeurism, I think it was another technique he employed to touch on the subject. That's just how I feel about it. I really don't think it was the director trying to ease the audiences anxiety. Either way the scene really did seem misplaced in what seemed to be a very gritty and difficult to swallow film. Come to think of it though, this movie has sparked a lot of conversation...

With so much of the movie being improvised some jokes do fall flat but the pace makes it easy to forget those stale jokes. was it disturbing in a good way?

It took me awhile to write about the film because it really kind of got to me; very few films have ever done that. THE EXORCIST is an example of one. I put THE SIGNAL on that level. The horror snob in me loves everything about it, but the kid in me was freaked out. Any film that disturbs me has to be great. I need to watch THE EVIL DEAD II to clear my head! Hysterically funny, over the top, gore soaked Asian action film. I loved it.

"Zombie Strippers"

I guess Robert Englund didn't invest his "Elm Street" money wisely if he has to appear in movies like this. Oh well...the film has some hot naked woman, lots of gore and of course, flesh eating zombies. Not the worst film ever made, but certainly not the best.

Jurassic Park II

I've seen one and three but never two... I was kind of taken aback at first by how goofy things got (Why ride a motorcycle under a dinosaur instead of around and did I just see a teenage girl kick a dino out a window while doing a parallel bar routine??) but it was fun nonetheless. We watched it and had fun while having a few laughs at the absurdity (and Vince Vaughn).

Oh boy... you guys are going to LOVE his next piece of excrement then- THE TOOTH FAIRY.

No- I'm not joking.

Dwayne Johnson stars as a hockey player who is turned into the Tooth Fairy. Sure to be just loaded with that charismatic acting of the caliber of "The Game Plan" where they would point the camera at the former Rock and tell him "Okay Dwayne, now cock your head to the left... a little more... now put on a frowny face... good... shoot that reaction! It's GOLD!"

It's clear why they dropped "The Rock" from his name- it would be too tempting to compare his acting to said inatimate object.

Oh yah... expansive....

Both of those were from Carter Smith. Bugcrush, the best of the two imo, he both wrote and directed. And with The Ruins, he took a borderline boring story and made it about as entertaining as you probably could. So I'm looking forward to whatever he does next.

Totally.

In each of the movies he has done so far in his short career, whether hits or flops, he has owned each one of them. His personality and on-screen presence is very strong. Just pick up any one of his movies and look at him...and you will see his domination.

Very good. Starts off with a pretty cool, light segment, then the tone, characters and action gets deeper as it goes along. Serves as a good bridge introducing Maroni, Gordon's MCU, the narrows' situation, what happened to Crane(with a too short killer croc cameo). Also, I think Allen represents the majority of Gotham(Or at least it's police), not too comfortable with Batman till they later come along. Just a great piece of work overall.

I never read the comic, but I've heard it doesn't quite follow the storyline. It doesn't make a lot of sense and it's message seems to be that you actually can solve all your poblems with a gun, knife or exploding rat, but regardless, it is a fun, flashy, loud and over-saturated ride.

Timur Bekmambetov delivers on the visual promise of the Nightwatch franchise and really throws the kitchen sink at this one. The first 30 minutes are pure deep-fried gold. James McEvoy is snarky and fun as the lead. Morgan Freeman says "mutherfucker" which elicited some rather nervous laughter from the audience who have clearly become acccustomed to seeing him play God lately. Cameos from Terrence Stamp & Thomas Kretchman are lovely, the locations are stunning and Angelina Jolie really needs to eat a fucking sandwich (yeah, I know she's preggers now, but she looked like a head on a stick in this film.)

It ain't great, but of all the summer action flicks so far, this is the one that truly demads dseeing it on the big screen - and other medium (no matter how kick-ass your home theater system is) can only cheapen the visual spectacle.

I hated the trailers as well - just goes to show what you gain from seeing the film in the cinema as opposed to just writing it off because of a snippert rendered on an inferior medium.

Until Death

another direct to video Van Damme flick.

more and more i have to say - i like this guy.
the movies he's in arent brilliant - but they arent bad - he does give a decent performance.

he's specializing in 'burned out tortured soul' roles right now - but he does it well.

i'd have to say - he's probably the best acting 'traditional action hero' out there.

i'd be suprised if he doesn't break into the mainstream again..if a decent director sees his potential and puts him in something good ... even in a secondary role.

Hopefully it'll happen, I wouldn't be suprised especially after the new Rambo flick.
I'd love to see action cinema return to the heyday of the 80s an early 90s.
I'll have to check that one out. I thought Wake Of Death was really good.
Have you seen Death Warrant? Watched that again for the first time in years a week or so back. Really cool apart from some of the horribly dated music. Great prison flick meets undercover cop kinda deal. Great fun!

I really enjoyed this one....they really did a good job with the characters. Kind of wish we would have seen more of Thor though - his fight with the Hulk was pretty much the best part of the show.

Hancock – A decent, fun superhero movie for the summer. It’s not going to change your life, certainly, and if you think too hard about it, it sort of falls apart, but it was a fun popcorn movie for the holiday weekend.

David Cronenberg has done it again; this is a companion movie to A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE;Viggo Mortensn with these two movies is fast becoming one of my favorite actors. The nude fight scene should be enjoyed by many women. This is a GODFATHER for the Russian mafia. It's nihilism with an uplifting ,spiritual ending. It starts kind of cold and detached , but slowly draws you in emotionally. I plan on watching this more than once; there are very few movies I can say that about.

Ferox13

It wasn't bad - I thought the characters were a little shallow (with the eception of the lead) and cliched (especially the ol' school Russian man) and the hot headed Sonny CorleoneVitz type son.

He shoulda went for the triangle in the sauna fight scene too :-)

I wish Cronenberg could achieve the richness of characterization that he got with Deadringers.

-Brad Johnson, Billy Drago

A small town in New Mexico is swarmed over by thousands of deadly copperhead snakes and one giant monster snake.

Much to my surprise, this Sci-Fi channel original movie was actually quite entertaining. Good performances and some decent western action. The CGI FX are a bit weak, but it wasn't bad at all.
