The Brothers Grimm.
Not great, poorly executed, CRAP acting.

Ever After, the snow white "horror" story were both better efforts.
I seem to recall that there was also a VERY well done mini-series made sometime in the 90's, various tales slightly intertwined around both of the brothers, THAT I'd like to see again.

The new movie...eh, if you're bored, maybe.

Caught the first part of this on SCREAM last night, at 4AM... couldn't stay awake for the rest of it... but it looked prety enjoyable. I was smiling throughout, plus I had watched a documentary about it just last month.

Hahahahahahahahaha....this movie sucked ass, but God was it hilarious. For all the wrong reasons mind you, but hilarious just the same.

It might even beat out Amityville as the worst remake ever IMO....but anyone who doesnt get a good laugh out of Nick Cage in a giant bear suit dropping some random girl with one punch...well, they just might have something wrong with them. Really, really bad but if you dont take it too serious, you'll find alot to laugh at:D

Could have been a massive cult-hit, but I believe it missed the mark. It did make me realize one thing though; CGI is a terrible, terrible thing. Well, when used in films like THIS, that is. If shot in entirely latex, rubber, etc I would have enjoyed it a lot more. The CGI was really ugly, and distracting. It didn't blend well at ALL, and looked like something a PS2 could crank out in a Silent Hill installment (not at all bad, but when mixed with live action...)

It was funny, and enjoyable... but the CGI. I craved a more... cheesy experience. Where's the effects ala Evil Dead?

I'd wanted to see this for some time.
Acting was ok - none of the actors best performance/role.
I suppose the twist was interesting if a little crazy.
I really liked the musical scoring, and I have to admit, prior to the "revealation" at the point I was still doing the "I think it must be..." thing, it did the suspense thing very well.
Worth a view if you've not seen it yet...not a film to take seriously, but it's watchable...some nice gore thrown in there too.

I liked Marebito, but I'm not sure why. Nothing about it should've worked. There's very little action. Almost the entire movie's dialgue is voiceover. And I have to say I didn't completely understand the ending. All of that aside, however, I liked it. I'll have to watch it again when I have some spare time, which may be in two or three YEARS.

I also liked Pyrokinesis. It's pretty predictable, but the ending was not exactly what I expected. The premise is a pretty good one: woman with pyrokinesis seeks revenge.

The one on my list I liked the most, however, (aside from Brick) was The Neighbor No. Thirteen. It has a "blink and you'll miss it" cameo by Takashi Miike. It started a little slow, but when it got started...there was no turning back. Another head-scratcher of an ending, but I kinda like those. I would definitely recommend this one.

just watched a French shocker (apparently banned in France ) entitled Baise-moi (literally "fuck me" or "rape me"). this is a weird and in ways disturbing film. its like a combination of Thelma and Louise, the dutch film A Question of Silence, and Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers (all interspliced with images from hardcore porn). amidst the savage violence and a fairly unnerving rape scene, are images of pretty straight-on hardcore porn (penises and penetration aplenty) and graphic killings (well, graphic by normal standards - nothing to shock the regular horror fan - but there is a kind of savage indifference to human life here that remains disturbing).

is this film art, exploitation, or just crap? I'd say art, but i'm feeling generous. I think it is disturbing but also thought-provoking.

Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn

I've always enjoyed this film slightly more than the original for the simple reason that it didn't try to take itself seriously. In the original, it seems like they set out to make a scary movie with a very low budget (hard thing to do.) In this one, they had a bigger budget but seemed to realize the film wouldn't be scary no matter what so they opted for a more comedic horror movie with more one liners and spraying blood. I think it worked out pretty well as this is one of my favorite sloppy gore films of all time...

Alone in The Dark (Sholder)

This film with the superb cast of Landau, Pleasance & Palance doesn't fail to live up to expectations (with such a cast I did expect a lot) - a cracking little gem of a film with some really creepy moments, it might be dated in parts but believe me - this movie is the only 'Alone in The Dark' worth watching. Good performances from the stars this movie according to my literature includes the pre-cursor to Jason Voorhees and his hockey mask wearing adventures. I don't honestly know if it is true but it does make a decent bit of trivia anyway! Certainly made me happy seeing a lunatic in a hockey mask running around - and to not even be Mr Voorhees, well that is special!

Hands down, one of the best cheesy horror films ever made. It's funny, it's fast moving & straight to the point & and it's full of sloppy splattering blood & gore that is so cheesy it can only make you smile. Although the continuity between ED & ED2 & AOD is probably some of the worst I can think of, it doesn't detract from any of them as an individual film. Bruce Campbell & Sam Raimi need to team up on another cheesy horror movie for us sometime soon.

I remember seeing the "original" about the accident prone martial artist that people mistook for Bruce Lee...Funny stuff.
The new one is a completely different concept, but is seems great to me...probably be better than the supposed ED remake.

Yeah I've heard of the bubba nosferatu thing...dunno how I feel about it, BHT was all kinda of good, and I don't think it really needed a sequel (or prequel as it were), but I'll no doubt be up to take a look at it.

This movie is one that I have owned for ages and just not got round to seeing...boy do I wish I had plumped for it sooner. Pretty much all out comedy (I Loved the old lady who feeds the crocs) this movie pretty much was fun from start to finish. No scares, pleanty of action and alot of laughs make this a popcorn movie classic.

7.5/10

The Haunting (Remake)

Purchased from a bargain bin, I just could never get round to watching this (after seeing House on Haunted Hill remake and originals of The Haunting etc) but I decided to finally give it a go. Another popcorn movie with maybe one or two 'jumps' this movie was actually quite entertaining. Never being a fan of Katherine Zeeta Jones I won't pass comment but I did like Owen Wilson yet again in what I thought was a good performance. Some decent effects make this quite a fun movie, not as good as the originals or even The House on Haunted Hill Remake but it's still worth a watch.

7/10

Dressed To Kill

I must admit to having never watched this De Palma thriller before finding it in a bargain sale. I found this erotic thriller to be equally menacing and intense throughout. Terrific performance by Michael Caine and a superb twist ending make this a must see.

8/10

The Killer Must Kill Again

This apparently lost giallo first caught my attention when I saw what appeared to be Bez from the Happy Mondays (Manchester Indie Band from 90's) on the cover brandishing a knife. That aside (the guy in the film does have an uncanny resemblance thought to Bez) this film is a nasty little shock fest. Created by a fan of Argento (he helped make Four Flies on Grey Velvet I think amongst other Argento classics) this crazy little film I found to be a throughly entertaining addition to any Giallo collection. Not as much gore but this does not make the film any less tense and I particularly liked the killer. Worth a watch if like me you love Argento/Giallo movies.

P.S. I imported this from the States on Mondo Macabre label and it included some cracking extras; Documentary on working with Argento, Documentary on Giallo movies and behind the scenes on making this movie. Excellent!

Shallow Ground

Although finding this movie somewhat confusing ( I will put this down to watching at gone 3am) I found this little indy movie thoroughy entertaining. Superb Gore, decent acting and a good plot make this one of the better indy movies of late.

7/10

The Interpreter

Under the current climate watching some scenes in this movie were quite eery (particularly the suicide bomber on the bus scene) and frightening (espec. living in UK after the London Bus Bombings). Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman put in stirling performances once again. This movie has many twists and turns that you cannot look away or you really could miss a vital bit of information.

However I did find myself a little let down at the ending...I don't know how or why the Mugabe type dictator was arrested or even gave up ( I mean just because you try to set up your own pretend assassination etc plot - could you really arrest and convict a dictator of such supposed stature...very doubtable). Still, this doesnt take away from the film - still pretty much an enjoyable experience.

7/10

Shaun of The Dead

I fancied watching a classic and Mrs Pea Soup in the Eye had not previously seen this before so I figured...go with Shaun. She was not disappointed. No matter how many times you watch this movie there is always something you hadn't caught originally and it is just as funny as ever. A movie that should be watched on a regular basis!

10/10

Final Destination

As I recently purchased part III I decided to watch the series, starting with the original classic. I still love this movie, the death scenes particularly shocking (my fave being the bus squashing the gal). I dunno, something just very original and fresh about this film I still enjoy if after numerous sittings.

The Last House on Dead End Street

Hmmmm....what can I say about this strange little film? According to my literature regarding this movie, the original cut (orig. Titled Cuckoo Clocks from hell) had a total running time of over 3hrs!!! However this has not been seen for a number of years and what has now been released is the version cut from this which was made for Drive in Cinema goers in the 70's. L.H.O.D.E.S. runs just over the 70 mins mark and is not only extremely jumpy and makes little sense but becomes increasingly hard to follow. Now whether this is intended as the portrayal of a man descending into madness or whether it is just because basically there are nearly 2 hours of the film still missing so how could it make sense? is anyones guess. My guess is that the film just isn't really that great.

Yes, I like alot of people on here are slaves to the gore and although it comes late - very late into the movie I don't think it really saves it. I am nearly through my Guinea Pig season and if you want unadulterated GORE then go to those movies as this was very much a 'poor mans attempt' at LAst House on The Left without the story to back it up.

The DVD itself proclaims the movie to be fully uncut and it is indeed crammed with extra's which for me saved the overall package but it still does not hide what I was hoping would be a real raw classic. Maybe in subsequent viewings I will change my mind but for me this is no where near the quality of a Last House on the Left, or even Scrapbook or August Underground for that matter.

Overall it's worth a watch if, like me, you have just 'got to see' all of these legendary cult horror movies. Some of the extra's are excellent and the dirty documentary style of the film does make for uneasy viewing...

My Dead Girfriend ..
comedy/horror from Ottawa (canada) filmmaker Brett Kelly
(i believe he was a 1 time member of this forum - hasnt posted since 2004)

released on Tempe - which means low budget - but worth a peek.
pretty decent performances ...

Plot :

a guy accidentially runs over his girlfriend and attempts to bring her back from the dead with an occult book she had. Needless to say - he's successful - sort of.

One of the more fun efforts i've seen in tis budget range ..

Sadly, it was an okay action movie, but they reallllly screwed up the story. With theone in the movie, there could only be a finite number of monsters, and only the humanoid kind.

Even if they had decided to actually follow the Doom3 story only, there is plenty to work with for amindless action flick.

my biggest beef was the complete waste of The Rock who has a pretty endearing screen presence ..
they gave him fuck all to do on this one..

sort of like Mickey Rourke in 9 1/2 weeks .. waste a good talent on a part any assole could have played.

I completely agree. They also included the classic BFG and it killed a couple of walls....

i would be surprised to find out that the director ever played Doom, any of them. The name and the look of the monsters were Borrowed from the game, and that is baout all the resemblance it had.

"The Car" (1977)
-James Brolin

Have you ever seen a movie and thought it was bad, but a few years later you see it again and think, "That wasn't as bad as I remember", well..."The Car" ain't one of those films, Almost 30 years since I last saw this thing and it's still a heaping load of crap. A decent cast toatally wasted in this god awful film. How it escaped "Mystery Science Theater 3000" I'll never know. Bad, really bad.

This one (to me) didn't start off quite as strong as the others, the first episode really grabbed me more, but, I just finished watching the first disk, and the ball does get rolling...however inprobable the storyline, the show manages to remain compelling, and you gotta love bauer, crazy motherfucker.

Hmm, I was just discussing that flick with my mom yesterday. It's a great lot of fun.

When you and your kid run out of Jerry Louis/Dean Martin movies, you should start him on the "Road To" Bob Hope/Bing Crosby films. I think they're all a whooping fun time, and you can get a fantastic little set of four for CDN$20. I highly recommend them, the set is very similar to the Abbott and Costello sets, also released by Universal.

Session 9

Alright, I had watched this once and found it drastically over-stated on this message board so I figured maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind for it & when I saw it on Encore this week, I DVR'd it and gave it another go... I don't know what it is, but I just can 't get in to this film. I'm not a big fan of ghost/haunting stories to begin with, but ones that try to pull it off without even bothering to show you the ghost really need to make up for it some other way and I just don't feel like this one does it. The direction is fine, the acting is fine, but there's barely any gore and the plot gets unneccesarily confusing towards the end when it tries throwing in twists and turns. I don't know... I've tried twice now and haven't really dug this movie either time.

sympathy for lady vengeance - great, watch it twice

I don't know what it is, but I just can 't get in to this film. I'm not a big fan of ghost/haunting stories to begin with, but ones that try to pull it off without even bothering to show you the ghost really need to make up for it some other way and I just don't feel like this one does it. The direction is fine, the acting is fine, but there's barely any gore and the plot gets unneccesarily confusing towards the end when it tries throwing in twists and turns. I don't know... I've tried twice now and haven't really dug this movie either time.

C

I completely agree.

I found this very overrated.

Event Horizon

Badass film. I really enjoyed it, the only thing I can complain about is the CGI, which was horrible at parts. However, the acting, direction, twist, scares, and gore made up for that, easily.

Terrific flick, if anyone hasn't seen it, I highly reccomend it.

I have SEEN it but I don't remember it well, The idea was creepy and the part when the light is flickering off and the woman with the black eyes HOLY SHIIIIIT.

Speaking of one of the worst movies Watch Troll 2 and that should cement your idea of a horrible movie. I hadn't seen it since I was 4 but When I found it I loved it

So yeah, you wanna look at a shitty movie try Troll 2.

The last month finaly I saw Silent Hill and Hard Candy (for the new users, I'm from Spain and here the film arrived on august) and Hard Candy.

About Silent Hill....well I realy likes the game saga, I've passed all the games etc so when I saw this film I realy enjoyed the first hour but when the cult appears....the film changes from a horror film into a monty python film (it's a witch!!!). I give to this film 3 over ten points

About Hard Candy, well it's a hard impact film but when I try to remember all the plot behind the images I realiced that it was weak. A sadic girl have a date with a photographer. The girl knows that this man has killed another girl just before her (but how the fuck she knows that?) and the must part of the film are sustented on all the tortures that this girl inflected to this man....on the biggest scenne I've to close my eyes (I think that every man that saw this, they have done the same). Nothing for me 3/10

Maybe something was lost in translation... but... I have to strongly disagree with "(but how the fuck she knows that?)". It's explained in the film, and is actually one of the most chilling statements in the final scenes.

In case you missed it, or didn't make the connection, here's how she knew Jeff was involved.

She "hunted" another before Jeff, a pedophile by the name of Eric. She, I presume, followed the same acts out on him that she did to Jeff, and as she states... Eric gave her the name of Jeff. In the questioning scenes, when Jeff reveals he didn't kill the girl, but only took pictures... she replies with "Funny, Eric told me the same thing before he killed himself."

Personally I'd give the film an 8, and it's definately on the "top films of the year" list for me.

Not even close to the first one. Wasnt too bad, but the humor was totally different, alot more juvenile. Effects were great and it made me laugh a couple times, but I dont really reccomend it.

Well, I know she hunted before another guy....but how could she know that they were the criminals that she wanted?. Another thing that have sense for me was: My friend kill a girl and I tooked pictures 'cause I'm not only a pervert, I'm stupid too.

Spectacular film with an impeccible cast. I was mesmerized the entire way through. Paul Newman's finest performance, methinks.

I haven't really LIKED any of these since the first one...this one's no great exception, but I have to say I thought it was a lot better than the second and third in the series.

Best movie that Ive seen in ages, absolutly loved it. Who knew Cronenberg would be such a kickass bad guy?

Awesome story, cool effects, above average acting and one of the coolest looking villains Ive ever seen...If you havent seen it, I very strongly suggest you pick up a copy.

I rememeber looking at the cover when I was little and seeming very interested,I would like to find it somewhere.

I loved Scary Movie 1 & 2. 3 wasn't really good and 4 had its moments.

I liked 2 the most.

Ideed! I think I saw this one three times in two weeks when it came out, and I was completely obsessed with it for a while. I was really hoping for a sequel, especially since the ending left the door wide open for one. Too bad it never came...

Nope. Buster and Billie (1974) was the first he was in, followed by 5 others.

Sars Wars: Bangkok Zombie Crisis

Bad cgi, bad acting, bad plot (ok so they all weren't bad just not what many would consider good)... I loved it.

When a cgi zombie baby rips through the stomach of his zombie mom and bites through his own umbilical cord only to jump around like crazy trying to kill you know you have something special. Wow, what a flick.

Star Wars (original theatrical version on DVD)

It was good to see it again the way it appeared originally. However it is disappointing that it wasn't an anamorphic transfer - it could have looked so much better. Not to mention, the subtitles when Greedo speaks would have been visible on the screen (they appear in the black bars, some of which are off frame when the image is stretched vertically to get the right ratio on a widescreen TV)

I did prefer the 2.0 stereo soundtrack to the 5.1 remastered track, so no complaints there.

It is disappointing that such an important film isn't given the care in presentation that it deserves. Sure, Lucas says that his efforts are concentrated on the remastered releases, but these can't have the same significance as the original (historical) versions.
