The Hard Word

This looked better from the previews than it actually was. Kind of a slow paced Aussie robbery/heist film, but it just wasn't very good. I think the acting was alright, but with all the thick Australian accents, who can be sure? It was just too slow paced and dull for me. They try to throw some curves in at the end, but it's nothing that we haven't seen before. It gets good for about 10 minutes when they are actually pulling off their heist, but other than that I thought it pretty much sucked.

Bree and I rented this about 2 years ago. We watched a couple of other movies the same night, but we started the core at like 2 in the morning, i was already pretty hammered, but i then drank about a half gallon of a concoction of peachtree schnapps, gran gala and tang. it was fruity and i was gone... And i really enjoyed the movie.

I was happy enough i think i laughed when clevon little got cooked like a turkey. Whihc is sick, i know, but come on.... Why would you send the guy who not only created the substance harder than diamond, but the laser that could cut through diamond like air, to the center of the earth?

Darkman II: The Return of Durant

I guess I'll never understand why they felt the need to bring a villain as stupid as the Durant character back from the dead for a sequel... And from a helicopter explosion he escaped with barely any physical scarring no less... There's a new main actor playing Darkman and the girlfriend character from the first film seems to have vanished completely, never to be heard from, seen or thought of again... Come to think of it, that probably IS why they felt the need to bring back such a crappy villain.... All of the other original actors had left the franchise.

Anyways, this was a mediocre follow up to a good movie. The plot was very simple and similar to the original, the villain was the same and just as annoying, Darkman was a different actor and the gore was toned down quite a bit. All in all, this one is no where near as entertaining as the original.

I don't really think he works that well in films that steer more towards drama, like ?spanglish?, I havent seen Click yet.

Rosemary's Baby is a very atmospheric and chilling little horror story about a couple who move to New York with intentions of living a happy life...with a child. So they start trying to make one. Well, through some complications (I won't spoil anything for you), Rosemary starts believeing that the baby inside her is in grave danger. Conspiracies fly all over the place, accusations are thrown, and everything goes to Hell from there.

You must see this. It is a classic.

Click

What has happened to Adam Sandler? This movie was so scripted and contrived that it just made me want to 'click' it off. There was a few funny jokes here and there but on the whole, this movie sucked. It's about a dozen other movie melded together in to one unfunny script. Christopher Walken is the bright spot, but even he isn't as bright of a spot as he usually is.

D+

Christine

This is a pretty good John Carpener film based on a Stephen King novel, but I just have a little bit of an issue with a car being scary. Sort of seems like a stupid villain. Acting is good, gore is fairly minimal, the direction seems weird. Like motion camera was still in it's experimental phase when this was made because this film had a lot of shaky camerawork. It's a little slow moving, but overall it's entertaining.

Guess Who..

I went into this one not expecting much - and laughed beginning to end.

the origional is a classic... i thought this would suck in a huge way in comparrison and the gimmick of the race reversal would flop ... but what it did was give Bernie Mac a chance to shine ... that guy is funny as hell in this ..and he plays the dramatic side well too..

this can't be dismissed as a dumb 'urban' comedy - it has a lot more going for it than that ..

Halloween. Along with part 2, still my favorite slasher (because thewy are the only ones i like...)

However, a couple of things that still bug me are Michael being able to pin someone to the wall with a 10" butcher knife (whgich would have about a quarter of an inch in the wall....) and picking up a nurse with the scalpel in part 2... Just a little to over the top for me.

call me prejudcied but i was never interested inthis one, i love the original too much. It just isnt worth it without david Warner, and no Gregory Peck. CMON!

What could beat Gregory Peck saying "Damien?"

His head is loosed in a different and rather enjoyable manner - best shot in the film.

I liked the original as a kid, but it hasn't really held up for me, so I don't mind this take on it. It isn't as good, becasue there's no Gregory Peck or David Warner but it really is the music that I miss the most.

Darkman III: Die, Darkman, Die!

Wow, this series goes progressively downhill in a real hurry... Like a bowling ball down a steep hill. This movie is so much crappier than the original, and even the less than steller sequel, it's almost embarrassing. The story is very basic though they still managed to make a hole-filled plot around it, the acting much worse than any others in the series, the gore is nearly nonexistent and the direction and editing are poor at best. A far cry from the Raimi directed original...

D

Just Like Heaven

This sucked, but what else could I expect right? Boy meets girl. Boy finds out girl is actually a ghost, but falls in love with her anyways. Through magical twist of fate, boy and girl are unified. Corny, sappy, predictable.

Ugh! Romero followed up NotLD with this piece of crap? No wonder it's so seldom seen, heard of or talked about! It has to be one of the most boring films I've ever seen! It's about a free spirited 'longhair' that's trying to figure himself out. Almost like Easy Rider, minus the motorcycles, scenery and violence at the end. You're probably wondering what you'd be left with if you took those 3 elements out of Easy Rider... Let me fill you in. You'd be left with a boring movie about a hippy that can't seem to find his place in the world. Zzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzz.... I thought it sucked. The only thing saving it from an 'F' grade is the fact that it's Romero and I just don't have the heart to fail him.

The Woods

Lucky McKee's first full length film since May shows a definite improvement. Although it was a little similar to Suspiria, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was a clone. Most of the principals turn in fine performances, especially Agnes Bruckner. The ending did seem somewhat rushed, but it's forgivable. All in all, I was quite pleased with this film. Overall: 7/10.

Went to a grindhouse double feature last night and saw The Forest and Don't Go in the Woods - two 80s expliotation slashers.

The Forest was hilariously bad - wierd ghost childre, an on-the-nose soundtrack, a crazy cannibal, closeted gay lead actors...fucking great.

Don't Go in the Woods had better gore, but was tedious as hell.

The storyline was so-so, but not bad...one of those movies that goes from zero to one hundred real soon after the beggining. Great soundtrack, and some interesting camerawork, and pretty funny moments of dialogue...not to mention hugely more violent than I was expecting. By all means, not a cinematic masterpeice, but a very fun film all the same.

Jeepers Creepers

I have always liked this one because it just feels a lot more original than most horror films I see. An original villain, unique storyline (albeit a little stupid at parts), and even some pretty fresh directing approaches and camera shots. The gore isn't too extreme or bloody, but it is fairly abundant. The ending is also pretty unexpected. I enjoy this film quite a bit. Highly entertaining, well acted and just plain cool.

A-

Dracula 2000

Another perpetual favorite of mine... I love this modern day take on the Dracula legend and am not really sure why this film gets such a bad wrap. Yes, it is a hip young Hollywood cast, but the acting is fine and the gore is abundant. Wes Craven has put together one of my favorite vampire movies of all time here because this is how I have always envisioned Dracula should be portrayed... A ruthless, soulless cold-blood butcher. Not some lovey dovey pansy... He's based on Vlad the Impaler for crying out loud!!!! Anyways, this movie kicks ass. Good acting, good gore, GREAT new twist on the Dracula legend, good directing, excellent entertainment value. I don't see why more people don't love it.

Dammit. Ah well, give it another go sometime.

Sorry dude, just wasnt for me.

Didnt like how it wanted to go in a whole new direction...#3 did the same thing, but still aknoledged the continuity of the series and actually really improved upon the first two. This one just fell flat IMO, and completly ruined the Tommy Jarvis character, not to mention it totally ignored #5.

Another thing: Going over-the-top can be a good thing in this kind of movie if it's handled well (Take TCM2 for example), but McLoughlin just couldnt pull it off.

You're right though, I probably should give it another chance a year or two down the road...didnt like Part II the first time that I watched it, but now it's one of my favourites...you never know.

The Shimizu-Gellar one. Dont think Raimi had much to do with that movie cept lend his name to the producers list.

He owns (co-owns?) the company that produced it, Ghost House. Thats the extent of his involvement.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

Well at least it was better than Part VI...still not on par with any of the first 5 though. Hodder is a badass Jason, but otherwise there's really nothing special here.

Next up: What else? Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, of course:p

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

The best since Part III as far as I'm concerned. Cheesy in places, but doesnt let it get out of hand like in Part VI. Really, really enjoyed this.

--------

Alas Jason, our journey together must be forced into reprieve. Shame your other two movies couldnt be packaged with the boxset...oh well, it was a pretty fun ride, and I'll see you again as soon as some Ebay auctions close:)

Having watched all of the first 8 films in the past 2 weeks (Most in the past few days), here is my ranking of the series so far (Spaces representing how close they came to being as good as the one above)):

Part III

Part II
Friday the 13th

The Final Chapter
Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
A New Beginning

Part VII: The New Blood

Part VI: Jason Lives

"Pulse" (The american remake)

Thought it was pretty good actually.

Sure, the ending sucked a little and the scares wasn´t quite as scary as they were in the original. But i still thought it was a good horror movie. Way better than "White Noise".

a friend and i lived on a street in toronto called Montrose for a year or so ..

every time we walked by the sign we'd say (together)
"MONTROSE" and do the little guitar move and make the little hi pitched guitar noise ..

(for those of you way too young that care - montrose is some old 70's guitar oriented band)

7.8/10

just like his old films, this film has a clear and present 1960's feel to it. even the way people dress. just like his old films, only 5 times the gore, not for the faint of heart. all in all, this was a fun film.

Nikos The Impaler

9/10

Schnaas does it again. This is comic style goriness at its best. every other scene was a gruesome death. special appearances by Lloyd Kaufman and....Hitler. and of course both of them get brutally torn to pieces. this movie kicks ass. tons of fun. Go Schnaas!!
