she was no worse than anyone else in the film ...
Well, they all sucked, that's true, but maybe she stuck out more because she was the only one without a British accent, so it was just easier for me to notice how frickin' terrible she was. Shit movie either way.

I watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (remake) late last night. I liked it much more than when I waatched it the first time about 3 years ago on video.
I think I liked it more because I enjoyed the beginning when I saw it at the cinema recently. I think the remake would be even better at the cinema , so hopefully one day i'll get the chance.
But how distracting is Jessica Biel, Running around in the tightest t-shirt and jeans, and all these camera angles from behind her and comeing up from the floor, showing us all the contours of her ass. They might as well have shown her tits at the start when they show the rope swing and the river.

I tend to lose faith in franchises past the second installment, but I was pleasantly surprised. The deaths did seem rather forced (I know, that's what you get with these flicks) but the concept of forgiveness as the overriding theme for a horror movie is a breath of fresh air...and I love a flick that examines the futility and destructive results of revenge.

Spike & Mike's Sick & Twisted Animation Festival: Caught in the Act
Some of these animation shorts were great, others were less great, but all in all this was an hour well spent. Definately not for the kiddies though, some of these are pretty crass. And also gay. I'm not sure if Spike & Mike has an association with the gay population or not but a handful of these films certainly had very homosexual content & agendas. Not all of them, but a couple... Enough to the point where you kinda notice a faint ongoing theme of homosexuality...
It was pretty entertaining overall, but like I said some of the shorts are hit or miss when taken individually.

Blah! This sucked! The plot was a confusing mismatch of scenes and pieces of other (not neccesarily) better movies like The Grudge, Amityville and even The Birds, among others.... The acting was alright, but the plot & story sucked. The scares weren't there (unless things moving quickly across the screen equals scares for you) and the gore was non-existent. I was bored for most of this one... Skip it.

After watching Demon Knight earlier this week, I had an itch to watch this one too. I've always been a Tales from the Crypt fan and the movies are just like show, only more violent and with swearing & nudity so it stands to reason that I'd like them just as much, if not more than the show & that holds true. This is one of the only things Dennis Miller has done that I haven't found him to be overly annoying or irritating in. Corey Feldman is good for a few laughs, Angie Everhart looks good. The story is pretty cool, the gore is pretty good acting & directing are decent and all in all it's a pretty entertaining vampire-comedy.

The whole tracing the call thing - "The call is coming from inside the house!" was a cool bit from Black Christmas that became the entire plot of When A Stranger Calls.
I liked When a Stranger Calls and think it was a good creepy flick (Carol Kane is so stunningly beautiful in that film) but Bob Clark didn't take too kindly to being ripped off.

I really enjoyed this horror flick. Good horror story, that seemed to avoid most cliches, lots of blood and gore and some good acting from most of the cast. Especially the, to me, unknown Christopher Kriesa did an excellent job in the lead role.
The only annoying thing i can put my finger on, was the ridiculous Yoda-sentences the weird family kept saying. Not only did it sound stupid, but it was also hard to hear what they were actually saying.
But except for the yoda thing and a few semi-bad actors, this movie is very recommendable.

It reminded me lot of Traffic in that it took one huge problem (The oil cycle) and pretty much examined it from every angle. (Obviously Traffic focused on the drug trade and this is about Middle East and Western oil connections, but the way they went about examining is what seemed similar to me.)
I thought this was a very well acted & directed film. The plot gets a bit complicated & confusing at points, but for the most part we can follow fairly easily. There's not a ton of action or gore as it's really more of a politcal drama but if you don't mind watching political dramas, then this is one worth checking out.

Tank Girl...kinda watched it...never really liked it, still don't.
House of 9 - Elements of saw, and a very "cube"-like ending...but not really a great movie, with some REALLY bad performances...I mean, Dennis Hopper as an Irish priest? Get fucked...
Hudson Hawk - Still kind've in the middle about this one, elements I like, some I don't...it's relatively entertaining in parts, but far from the best of Willis.
Cypher - watched about half of it...tried too hard to be weird, unlikeable as a result.
Hoodwinked - Fairly funny in parts, not "great" but good.
Bad Santa - Yeah, seems to live up to the hype, pretty funny movie, full of "that
's just wrong"...don't really like BBT, but, this one was indeed pretty good.
Brick - I was stoned as all hell for this one, and don't think that was the best idea...great looking, stylish film though...might hire it again one day, stay in my right mind so I've a chance of making head or tail of it.

I watched this with very low expectations, but I'm delighted to say that this film blew my low expectations right out of the water. I thought it was excellent! Good FX, good acting and a completely fresh & original plot. All of that plus a good amount of humor and let's not forget Bruce Campbell (Who steals every scene he's in.) It could have been that my initial expectations were so low, but I really enjoyed this movie and now think it's probably one of the most highly under-rated comedies to come ou in the past few years. I was thuroughly entertained from start to finish.

It's a story of a "lady-killer(!)" obsessive French perfumer set in 18th-century. Though the movie 'smell' quite a different but there is NO gore & creepy killing scene:( and the ending disappoints as well. Overall, it's watchable & funny(!?!).;)

First time viewing, I liked it quite a lot...the gangsters made me laugh, the dialogue was incredible, I thought the friendship between GD and the french icecream guy was a kinda nice touch too, near total lack of communication, but perfect understanding. Beautifully lensed with a near-Kubrikian aesthetic, sumptuous costumes and locations and really odd use of new-romantic 80s tunes create a tale of total insulation from the world. It all rings a little hollow to me. There's no story, but I can see that's the point - to illustrate how vacuous her existance was and how she truly is an example of a wasted life.
Still, not terribly entertaining. 6.5/10

Miami Vice...well...I guess most of it.
I really liked the soundtrack, but that's about all.
The dialogue was dry and boring, as was the plot...It was "ok", but I just found myself unable to be drawn into this film in any way, it was just unworthy of attention. I did notice they seemed to try and use about 50 different types/ways to shoot the damn thing, it was like random scenes from different movies stitched together.
At the point towards the end (I think....) where there's just lots of shooting and gunfire, I just looked at it, thought "I have no idea what the fuck is going on here, who's shooting who, anything", it was just chaotic and stupid...at that point I turned it off, just didn't seem worth the investment in time.
I remember once seeing an interview with Colin Farrell a few years back where he was asked what it was like to be the "IT thing" in films...and he replied with something along the lines of "It's alright but a bit tiring...I mean, it's ridiculous, I've been the f'n IT thing for about 8 years now"
Well, don't worry Colin...I think this film might've fixed that...but then, who knows...SWAT wasn't any kind've great either.

The Departed
Great acting here all around (How could it not be with this all-star cast?), good direction & script, lots of action, but it was a bit long. While this is probably one of the better crime films to come out in recent years, I don't neccesarily think it's Scorsese's best work. (I'd actually rank quite a few of his films ahead of it.... Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino and maybe even The Color of Money.) Any soundtrack with Dropkick Murphys featured so prominently is a good soundtrack in my book!
All in all, I really enjoyed this film, however I think I had built up my expectations a bit too high because I thought it was somewhere in between good & great, but not the spectacular crowning achievement in Scorsese's career that I've been led to believe it was gonna be.

That might be a bit of a rough watch then. If nothing else, I still suggest watching it for the animation, because it's some of the most gorgeous graphics I've ever seen. As far as not having played FFVII, yeah, a good stand alone movie it is not. I think that's the majority of the magic of it is seeing the characters you grew to love out of a groundbreaking game again in a new story.

Pennywise: Home Movies
I love, love, LOVE Pennywise. Along with Bad Religion & NOFX, they are one of my all-time favorite bands. That being said, this video was a MAJOR disappointment. First off, Netflix had it marked as 60 minutes when in fact it was only 35. Secondly, there was only 5 live songs shown on the whole thing & the sound quality was terrible on them. The rest of the video just consisted of clips from the tourbus or hotel rooms, but nothing real substantial. When this arrived in the mail, I was totally fired up to watch it and now that I did, I'm severely disappointed.
C
Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices
I've always hated Wal-Mart for the way they conduct their business (moving in to small towns and utterly crushing the local competition right out of business with their sweatshop low prices) so I really didn't need to watch this to figure out any new reasons to hate Wal-Mart, but this is an EXCELLENT documentary! EXCELLENT. If you're a Wal-Mart shopper, watch this & you won't be. This film basically covers everything.... From how Wal-Mart deliberately runs small stores out of business, to how their corporate management openly discriminates against women and minorities, to how they pollute without regard while claiming to be environmentally conscious, to how they operate their sweatshops in Bangladesh & China (and fire American employees they send to the sweatshops to report on conditions when they report something that Wal-Mart doesn't like), to how they vehemently refuse any possibility of a worker's union, to how they claim to take care of their employees while paying them less than a livable income and terrible helath coverage (Wal-Mart actually TELLS their employees to use state sponsored health programs, WIC & welfare instead of just offering better benefits to them.), to how the Walton family (owners) donated a whopping less than 1% of their combined wealth (of over 100 billion dollars) to charity (By comparison, Bill Gates donated 58% of his wealth to charity) to how they train their store managers to actually go into the computer systems and delete worker's over time or shuffle it ahead to the next week.
I fancy myself pretty well informed on Wal-Mart's dirty deeds but I still learned a lot from this documentary and I highly suggest that you do too. See this before you set foot in to a Wal-Mart (or Sams Club. Same ownership.)
In all, this is probably one of the best documentary's I've ever seen & I wish there was a way that I could make every single person in this country watch it.

Day of the Dead is a great movie. I'm sure you remember when Land came out a lot of people here hated it. I liked it quite a bit, but just be aware that the majority are against me here.
As far as the remake of Dawn goes, it's one of the better remakes ever made IMHO. It's right up there with The Thing, The Blob, The Ring & The Fly. Plus, it's got a swinging lounge version of Disturbeds 'The Sickness' which I dug. I can't speak for the 90's remake of Night, as that's one of the few on the HDC Top 100 I have yet to see. I don't think watching the remakes before you watch Day & Land is a big deal, though.

Anyone else seen this Wal-Mart documentary?
Yep, brilliant doc-filmmaking.
It did a good job of showing not only the political issues, but focusing in on the moral issues, showed us just how this corporation has damaged so many lives, both American and otherwise.
The film actually made me stop shopping at Wal-Mart. It was that effective. Glad to see someone else has seen it and got something out of it.

I remember Peter Boyle's character telling a patient in the hospital to rise and walk which resulted in the patient trying to get up but falling flat on his face. I didn't see it when I watched it this time... odd.

I haven't got to see this yet but it's so odd because my aunt makes over $80,000 a year at Wal-Mart and gets good benefits...
They shouldn't HAVE to allow a union in either but that's just my opinion. Oddly enough, I went to Wal-Mart months and months ago and asked everybody in the "movie" department if they had this movie and I was met with blank stares. I am anxious to see it, I'll have to add it to my Netflix list. Personally I haven't really shopped at Wal-Mart since they edited all their music, stopped selling Al Snow toys, and wouldn't sell that Southern gentleman's BBQ sauce because he flew a confederate flag above his factory.

The Hills Have Eyes (remake)
Close to one of my favorites now. I love the heroism (is that a valid word for what i'm talking about?) When the brother goes and kicks ass. I love the acting, and the blonde sister rocks. Great dog part too.
9/10 very intense
Assault on Precinct 13 (remake)
It was ok, nothing amazing though. Some good gun kills, very nice. It got kinda retarded near the end though, and the plot kinda went everywhere, but for an action suspense movie it was ok.

The feel?
If it wasnīt for the cool demon make-up and the scene in the church, i would probably have given it a 5-6/10
the ending at the hospital felt rushed and very nonclimatic. And the confrontation with the doctors REALLY sucked.

3/10
What didnt you like about it?
I didnt think it was amazing or anything, but I'd give it a solid 7/10 or so. Good acting, good plot, well paced and a good twist or two...I liked it.
Anyway.
I was at a 12-hour rehearsal today for my school musical (Fiddler on the Roof)....most of the scenes we worked on were scenes that Im not in, so I spent most of the day backstage watching bits and pieces of whatever everyone else was watching:
- Chapelle's Show (Around 5-6 episodes, Season 2)
- Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (Didnt see all of it, but what I saw was decent enough)
- Rent (I love Rent...great music. La Vie Boheme!)
- High School Musical (What God-awful dreck. Thank God I was actually needed on stage through most of the time they were watching this...I saw more than enopugh to file it under "garbage". Horrible acting, worse writing, all the songs sounded the same...and that damn "go with the status quo" has got tp be the STUPIDEST message that Ive ever heared.)
- Fiddler on the Roof (We had the movie version going for awhile...I'll have to check it out once we finish our version, seems pretty good. I can already vouch for it being a great story with great music, haha.)
It was a good day...actually got ALOT of work done, despite having so much time to hang around watching movies.

Idiocracy
The concept of this film was awesome, but it wasn't executed to it's full potential, probably because Dax Sheppard is a very good actor. Luke Wilson is great though & Mike Judge really came up with a good idea for a film here. It's very vulgar & probbaly offensive to most people, but it's still pretty damn funny. I was entertained.
B
Freak Out
This one is extremely low budget, but it's done fairly well. There's some editing issues & a lot of the British humor will probably fall flat for Americans like me that just won't get some of the jokes. Horror afcionados will get a kick out the multiple homages paid to various horror films (Evil Dead, Psycho etc..) but the ending was kinda lame and because of their budget, almost all of the gore takes place just off screen followed by a splash of blood that we can see.
It was good, but not great. They did well with the budget they had though.
