I guess Ill have to track down some old serials....but until then, Ill have to quote Austin...."To each his own":p
Anyway, last night I watched a movie that I throughly enjoyed....and despite it's awful plot, wasnt really that bad. "Attack of the Giant Leeches", damn thats a great name. Exactly what you'd expect from a late 50's B movie with a name like Attack of the Giant Leeches, but it was still enjoyable:)

New horror movies...hmm since the age-old scares of the vampires, zombies and werewolves have died out, the producers are busy pittin them against each other...
We had Underworld...we had Freddy vs Jason...we had Alien vs Predator...all sorts of rumors for sequels to these "versus" series...rehash the old wines, mix em, and package em attractively...
new original horror movies eh...do I need a vote on that? well maybe I do...maybe we all do...

"Bhoot"
Indian, yes INDIAN horror movie about a haunted apartment. Average..
I ordered this one on Ebay after reading some promising reviews on IMDB telling that it was very scary.
I liked the lead character and the music score wich is some of the best and most creepy iīve ever heard in a horror movie.
It had a few good scares, but thatīs it.
The horror in "bhoot" were so cliche that it almost brought tears to my eyes. For a 2 hours movie it was at least half an hour too long.
It started out pretty promising with the ghost appearing more and more in the apartment, but after 40 minutes it took a shamefully wrong turn. After that it was all down hill untill the end. I would love to say that it ended with a climax, but that would be a cruel lie...... Yeah well, at least they didnīt start dancing and singing.

Well, I only went to this cause I got a free ticket cause I bought the boxset of the originals. And Im some glad I didnt have to pay to see this shitload! I saw absolutly nothing to like about this movie, except for the very brief subplot about the history of the house. If they expanded on that, it might have been easier to sit through. It still woulda sucked though...

These are the last 3 movies I saw...
Sideways - Over-rated. Unless you are really into 'wine humor' it's pretty dull. Maybe 2 or 3 funny parts in the whole movie. C+
Season of the Hunted - Man this one was low budget! I think they filmed it on a camcorder because the camera work was terrible. Not very entertaining at all. D
S.I.C.K. - This one was low budget, but actually somewhat entertaining due to the cheesy acting, decent gore, and better than average ending. C

It's fun, but not that great...I mean, it isn't bad IMO, I just didn't like it as much as I did the first, had a completely different atmosphere. There's a few funny kills I suppose, and the creeper shows off some unseen tricks...but thats about the size of it.
I finally finished watching team america: world police.
Admittedly it DID get a little better that I had thought when I watched the start of it...however, I still think it's largely overated.

here's something i didnt realize till last night ..
there are these 3 witches ... hot ass bodies .. often semi naked .. but with these fucked up faces ...
and one of them is Janet Jones (Gretsky) !
too bad they covered her face.
Not a lot of nudity in it but enough violence that my kid cant watch it - which is too bad because he digs the animals.
Also on the weekend i watched the TV miniseries 'Dinotopia' (the DVD set)
Great set and art design, the dinos looked fantastic .... but the characters left something to be desired, with the exception of the always excellent Davit Thewlis. Alice Krige was ok too but her role was a throw away.
Visually interesting, but dull, plodding, and totally predictable.

It is indeed pretty awesome. I wouldn't say there is buckets of bloodshed but there is some very cool gunfights [ gunkata ] and a great story.

2. In the original, more was left to the imagination. It never told you why the house was haunted, it just sorta was. I find that much creepier than semi-decent looking CGI ghosts in a movie like this.
3. Father Delaney was one of my favorite parts of the original, and he hardly had a cameo in this one. His scene in the house when it tells him to Get Out is one of my all time personal favorite scenes.
4. In the original, I liked how the house cut them off from the outside world, by screwin' with the phone lines, and sickening those who entered. None of this is in the new.

Back to equilibrium for a moment...a little while ago I saw some of it...I'd like to finish it, and I'm sure I will - had a very interesting concept.
Now, about a week ago, I saw a documentary about old action/sci-fi movies, and one called "farenheit 451" was discussed.
It seems to share the basic idea of equilibrium, and I had to wonder if maybe the earlier film had inspired it...would anyone that has seen both films agree to this?
So, farenheit 451, is it worth watching? Looks pretty good...

Equilibrium is influenced by Farenheight 451, Brave New World, and 1984. Add to the mix some excellent action and interesting characters - and there you go.
The movie Farenheight 451 is a bleak view of the future (it doesnt look futuristic at all - just the concepts) but it's an interesting film by Franįois Truffaut (one of my favorite filmmakers)
Its being remade as well ... big suprise.
I recommend you read the book by Ray Bradbury ..
I would say though, that yes - Farenheight 451 was the heaviest inspiration for Equilibrium..

"Cursed"
Asian horror movie.
Not very good.
5/10
Despite itīs low budget and bad actors, this movie actually started out pretty promising with a girl getting wasted by a bus, a guy disapearing in a dark room, and especially the almost "halloween" scene where a girl is being followed by a creepy guy draging a sledgehammer.
But sadly enough "Cursed" turns out to be a complete mess, with a chaotic ending that stops in the middle of everything without giving you any answers at all..

Alright I watched Equilibrium last night. It was pretty good, but I can't really see how/why people would think it was better than the first Matrix. (Being that it came out after it and borrowed heavily from it. If The Matrix never existed, this film would have been very different.) Nevertheless, I like dark futuristic movies and this one was pretty cool. Christian Bale does a good job. Lots of gunfighting. Deep storyline. Good action.
I'd give it about a B+. Definately worth a rent. Thanks for the info/suggestion fellas.

There was only one thing I could find to dislike about this movie, and it was really minor. I despise it when movies have excessive, uncalled for strong language. That aside, this was frickin amazing. I damn near cried when Bub found Logan's body, and the salute to Rhodes at the end was a great shot. Joe Pilato did a great job as Rhodes, one of the most convincing movie assholes Ive ever seen! Frakenstiens death was damn cool too. Awesome movie...

1. I thought Brolin was great too, but i found Reynolds performance equaly good, just different. More like Jack Torrance character. Actually, the remake reminded me a lot of "The shining"...
2. One of the things that i found really great about the remake was that they actually SHOWED you something in contrast to the original that showed you absolutely nothing! Now donīt get me wrong. I too love a creepy atmosphere, but that alone doensīt do it for me, if nothing else turns up before the credits rolls. That was the case with the original and it left me very disappointet. Other examples of great atmospheric horror movies that ended up leaving me the same way are "The changeling" and "Session 9".
3. Father Delaney wasnīt an important factor for the plot in the original, thatīs why he had such a small part in the new version i think. Itīs the family that itīs all about and that was what the remake focused on. And i personaly didnīt like the talking house in the original. It ruined some of the creepiness for me.
4. I liked the original house too. But nevertheless i liked that the remake went in some other directions.
I think that all in all i love all that you hate about the remake, and when it comes to the original itīs the other way around.;)
Peace

I like Dawn over Day. They are both great! (Probably both in my Top 10 movies of all time too.) Day is just a little bit slower moving though and for me, that gives Dawn the edge.
A few random thoughts...
-Star Wars: A New Hope = Episode 4 (First one they ever made)
-Monster Squad KICKS ASS!
-Slasherman may not know what he's getting in to with Cannibal Holocaust. You can hear how brutal it is all you want, but nothing prepares people for a movie like that. It was so disturbingly real that it turned me off from horror altogether for a week or so after I watched it. I'll be interested to hear what he thinks when he recovers from watching it.
-Shaun of the Dead is hilarious!
IMHO "Dawn" edges out "Day" slightly.
Agree with Bwind concerning Monster Squad and Shaun.

I'm hoping a rocker gets it this year. I'm really rooting for Bo. I think Vonzell is good, too. The only ones I don't like are Anthony and Scott. Scott has a pretty good voice but he has no stage presence. He just stands there and sings.

I don't know what your talking about....I told you ....I don't watch that show.
Yes Vonzell is very good and quite attractive. She has really been bringing it the last couple of weeks.
The only honest judge is Simon Cowell . He tells it like it is. I thought it was pretty funny last night when he told Scott to pack his bags.

Full Moon is shit however .. Agreed...I long for the days of Subspecies, Puppetmaster and Demonic Toys.....I can't believe they let it all fall apart the way they did...I used to LOVE Full Moon.....Couldn't wait for the next one to come out....Then, as they started getting shitty (The Creeps...OMG what the hell was THAT?), I just kept hoping they were in a slump...Believing they'd get it back, be good again....Then came the other shit....and finally...Killjoy....That movie did it...I never watched another one.....I had to face the fact that Full Moon wasn't just ill, but that it had died long before Killjoy...and that Killjoy was the overwhelming stench of Full Moon's long-dead, bloated, rotting carcass......It was a sad night for me......Reality Bites....*wipes tear*

the only problem is that you get only one good swing so you have to hit your mark.... you have to draw it back in a wide arc for the second shot which leave you vulnerable ..
same problem with an axe or a baseball bat.
it's nice to have the range but speed is essential as well.

Loved the idea, but the movie wasnīt good and the actors were terrible, except maybe for the guy who plays the leading role.
But the guy who gets his throat cut by a flying blade might be one of the worst actors iīve ever seen. Bravo!
The characters acts woderfully stupid. Like the woman who discovers some dead rats hanging on a string and then starts to scream at them for what seems to be 20 seconds or so. Seriously, who would do that in real life?? I know what your answer is....... WHO GIVES A FUCK!!?
Well anyhow, that scene would have made me laugh myself to tears if the sound of her screaming just wasnīt so god damn annoying.
1 detail that i really loved though, was that childs voice everytime the "scary" melody starts. It sounded wonderfully weird and creepy.
all in all an entertaining B-movie that is so bad that itīs actually enjoyable. 4/10

i was suprised at how non-exploitive the movie actually was.
The rapes weren't exploitive .. the camera didnt linger on her body.
She was never allowed to look sexy or attractive until she was in control.
The acting was pretty decent for a bunch of people who never did anything else before or since.
The revenge scenes were the only exploitive part of the movie ..
I think it was the idiots in the audiences that gave this film a bad name. Every time you go to a horror film there is always a few posturing adolescent boys yelling stupid shit at the screen ..
Like when a girl is being killed or raped they yell shit to show their bravado .. their little shock value garbage ..
i think this happened a lot when ISOYG was in the theatres .. and it got a bad name in part for the audience bullshit ..

The Interpreter -10/10, Great acting, Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman were definately at their best in this one. Sydney Pollock did an amazing job creating a very intense, suspenseful and imo very unpredictable film, just when you think you're sure about something it totally changes around. The thing I liked most about it was that unlike most other films it didn't go with Murphy's Law, all the twist were just creative writting and directing.

Ive watched a few since I last posted...
Starting off, I finally got to see Friday the 13th. Yes, incredibly, this is the 1st time I saw it. I thought it was pretty good for a slasher flick, didnt hold up to NOES or Halloween though. But the ending was pretty amazing.
Then I watched an episode of Lucky Luke that was marketed as a movie, called Ghost Train. I thought it was pretty damn good...predictible, but still hilarious and action packed!
I also watched the fantastic Theatre of Blood for prbably the 9th-10th time...god I love that movie! One of VP's best preformances, no question.

Instinct-5 1/2 out of 10, It's an interesting story with an ok script and Hopkins and Gooden Jr. gave solid preformances. The ending good and completely unexpected. So overall it was an alright film with a few great moments.

Here's Oswald's "escape" of the scene:
He walked out of the front door of his workplace, not the closer rear exit. He then caught a bus to go home, but switched to a taxi, due to the heavy traffic conditions. Interestingly, the bus that Oswald initially took would bring him closer to the assassination scene, not away from it.

Fucking excellent movie...very cool, great atmosphere and music, suitably over-acted badguys, very nice fight and stunt coreography, and zombies...can't complain about the zombies.
Nice gore and splatter too.
Slightly confusing storyline, but becomes a little more clear each time 'round.

Watched the rest of Luther last night. Joseph Fiennes, as always, was excellent, as was Peter Ustinov and Alfred Molina. Actually the whole cast was good. I really liked this movie. Being a Lutheran, I knew a little (very little) about Martin Luther. This movie gives you the whole story of his battle with the Roman Catholic Church. The interviews in the Extras aren't much. If you're into historical movies, I suggest renting it, even if you're completely against organized religion. It shows the courage of a man who dared to defy the immense organization that was/is the Roman Catholic Church.
