Slumber Party Massacre
This has to be one of the most straight forward plots ever. Maniac escapes from custody, proceeds to massacre girls at a slumber party. It's so simple that it actually works alright because less plot equals less potential plot holes. The acting was average and I'd say most of the budget went to paying all the actresses to spend so many scenes topless because the gore was mainly typical low budget. I like the motiveless killer, but the movie was pretty predictable. For 80s slasher fans, I'd recommend it, for anyone else, watch at your own risk. I was entertained.

Hot Fuzz (2007) - 9/10
This will probably end up being one of my favourite films of the year. I thought Shaun of the Dead was over-rated (I liked it, but didn't think it was as amazing as the fans made it out to be...), and I was worried the same would apply here. Oh, it didn't. Hot Fuzz is fucking brilliant if your into this type of humour. The last 30 minutes has some of the best action I've seen (it's my style of action). Go see it now.
PS. Canada rocks. This has gore-galore and swear words in the double digits. PG-14. Our ratings board has become more and more wonderful. :)

You have to admit that there was one scene that was pretty brutal, I was surprised with the male on female violence in that scene.
Since they were taking from BR, it didnt surprise me. But yes, most of the 5/10 I gave the movie revolved around the brutality.

Last Watched: The Pumpkin Karver
Eh... low budget movie, and I usually love 'em. Was expecting a fun slasher, but it didn't go so well. The slasher bits weren't so formulaic, and the deaths didn't really seem to be on the foreground. Pulled off the Halloween atmosphere decently enough... could have been loads better. Wasn't horrific, but it isn't one of those terriblle B movies that I look back on and smile, because I realize I really enjoyed them.

After what everyone said about this movie, I was expecting it to be fantastic. The only thing that made it worthwhile was the way it ended. But even at that, you could skip the first hour of the movie and not really miss anything. It's worth a watch, but do yourself a favor and rent before you buy.

It's just alright so far... nothing overly special about it. Had a lot of hype, so I hope it gets better near the end. Not a big fan of animations, I've learned... none of them really impress me. Monster House being one of the few exceptions - oh, and of course Shrek.

I went to a Sci-Fi marathon this weekend at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago, where I was lucky enough to meet Academy Award winner Patricia Neal (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Hud). She's a real doll.
Anyway, I got to see, on the silver screen, the following films:
*Metropolis (1927)
*Forbidden Planet (1956)
*Serenity (2005)
*The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) (Followed by Patricia Neal Q+A)
*Mad Max (1979)
...they played The Terminator and Starship Troopers too, but when Mad Max finished it was past midnight, and we had to walk back through a bad part of town.

I didn't find the atmosphere to be more intense than many other slasher movies i've seen. The only thing that was going for this movie was the "amusement park" ride theme. THAT was a little original.

Dark Days
Documentary dealing with a group of New York City homeless that set up a small community in an abandoned subway station far below the streets of New York to keep safe from police, misfits and weather. Their home made community comes complete with shacks built from scrap, electricity stolen right off the 3rd rail, and broken pipes that act as showers. It's an interesting look into the lives of homeless people, but it was as impactful as I had been hoping it would be.

Maniac
Interesting take on the slasher genre. It almost takes a sympathetic view of the serial killer at the center of the story. The story was decent, the gore FX were OUTSTANDING, especially the shotgun decapitation and the ripped apart scene. This is probably some of Savini's best work. The acting was okay, the directing was decent. I recommend this to slasher fans. It's straightforward, gory and twisted.

Hmm, a lot of movies... Assuming I remember any of them.
28 Days Later- It was scary, I really thought parts were scary. Just a few, but the infected looked very scary in the dark. Acting-good Story- overdone but good, Gore- eh... there wasn't that much really, Scares- good because the one part in the kitchen, Climax- lame. The last 15 or so minutes were NOT entertaining. And I always hear about a zombie hitting a mine and bouncing onto another one, but I totally missed it.

Slither - I liked it...I had to check IMDB to make sure that Stuart Gordon had nothing to do with this movie...It was VERY much like his stuff, and I LOVE Stuart Gordon
The Descent - I enjoyed this one, too...But, it seemed like it was 'missing' something...I'm just not sure what
Feast - I was honestly expecting to dislike this one..I had even considered not getting it at one point...I'm glad I didn't make that mistake...It was funny and had a decent amount of blood and gore...I just wish there was some definitive explanation of where the creatures came from...It seems to me that there will most likely be a sequel, in which the origins of the creatures would (hopefully) be explained

Friday the 13th Part 3
Well, this picks up right after F13 Pt. 2 ends so the continuity is pretty good, however one thing I don't like is how the main girl was allegedly a survivor from a previous Jason attack, yet her character was never present in either of the 1st two movies. There are some good kills, the plot is pretty thin and straightforward, the acting is okay. Overall, it's entertaining, but not great. Then again, who expects a cheesy slasher film to be great anyways?

This one had a higher bodycount, but less gore than Part 3. Corey Feldman gives what probably amounts to his best on-screen performance to date & Crispin Glover is hilarious. I liked the trailers the most. :)
The only thing i liked about the Tarantino flick, was the three girls kicking Russels ass at the end. For some reason that scene seemed hilarious to me. :D
OH! The trailers were awesome! The line "You just fucked with the wrong Mexican" about killed me...that one was great.
I'm seriously considering going to see it again while it's still in theaters. Just don't think it'll measure up on DVD.

its sounds stupid when you keep calling films 10/10. then no one can take your reviews seriously. your only supposed to give flawless films a 10/10. the only films i would give that would to would be The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly and Raging Bull. 8/10 is acceptable sometimes, 9/10 on a rare occasion. but you use it too much 10/10 far too much.
(11/10 is not a valid rating either)
Yeah, i feel the same way about the 10/10 rating.
I can't even come up with a movie title i would give those ratings...

I've heard something about that trailer is being made into an actual movie. That would be pretty sweet. :)

Tarantino directed exactly 1 scene in Sin City, but he wrote From Dusk Til Dawn & True Romance. To me, (obviously just my opinion here) he played a much larger role in the films he wrote than he did in the film he helped RR out on 1 rainy scene. *Shrug* Not that it really matters though, all the films he had a significant part in making have been fuckin' badass if ya ask me.

Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning
After 4 pretty solid films, this franchise takes a nosedive here. Bad acting, bad script, minimal gore, and an imposter Jason to top it all off. There are still a few entertaining pieces here or there but they are pretty few and far between in this one.

I m willing to bet he did a lot more than just write or produce in all the movies he is credited as writer or producer. A writer/producer who is a director himself can be a really valuable asset to the movie-maker, since he can give a lot of inputs into the story and the visualisation of it. Hence its hard to distinguish between Rodriguez and Tarantino as different entities, as far as their collaborated projects go.
To me both of em are two wheels of a well-oiled and tuned Ferrari. Pure class.

You folks in the states will probably have to wait a lil longer for this one...but, all the same...I thought it was very good. I was very apprehensive, as I loved the first one, and do 'til this day...The first scene in the film was insane, not to mention some craziness I won't even mention.
Tense, chaotic, met my expectations.
Felt a little like it ended a tad too quickly..and I think I still prefer the first, but as a fellow fan of the first for anyone wondering if the sequel is worth it, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

Great follow-up to the original (kinda like Aliens)...I d say it even dominates the 1st one on certain points. There's some really sweet ass-kicking and gore sequences, and the pace of the movie is relentless. The camerawork is awesome, just like the original...and the direction is flawless.
Think of this movie as a fast-paced action/thriller with horror elements thrown in. Even after watching Spider-Man 3, I dare say this movie kicks Spidey 3's butt.

For the most part I found this to be a pretty average tale of ghostly goings on.There were the odd creepy and well executed scenes but not enough to lift this movie above mediocrity. The ending was disappointing too, relying far too much on some poor CGI which was completely out of place in relation to the rest of the movie.Overall I felt that this could have been so much more effective if the better elements of this movie had been expanded upon and the makers put some thought into the ending rather than just throwing some lazy CGI at the screen.5.5/10

Amazing art direction...crappy film. And Jennifer Hudson won an academy award for her ham-fisted, sloppy, mannered performance??? Eddie Murphy gave the best performance in the film.
5/10
Thats what you say eh? And are gonna stand by it no matter what?;)
I absolutely hated that movie. I dont know why, but it simply didnt click with me. I was so mad that I remember not paying the rent of it for quite awhile.

I caught the last ten minutes of the first Nightmare on Elm street the other day on HBO. So, of course I had to break out the box set. Got about half way through the 4th one and fell asleep.

After Dark Horrorfest-Unrest.
I thought this was a so so tale concerning a malevolent spirit. The medical school setting had the potential to be really creepy, but for the most part it wasn't.The actors were decent in the main but I felt they were let down by some poor dialogue in some scenes.Scares were thin on the ground, there was very little suspense or atmosphere and the few scenes that featured any blood letting were not really gory.4/10

Blood Diamond
Good action flick with some social relevance, but it is also guilty of a rather high level of exploitation. Too bad a film about the problems in Africa has to star a couple of Americans. If you want a more authentic African flick, rent Tsotsi.
7/10
lots of action?
If you like westerns [ and I know you do ] you will like this movie. There is plenty of action....hell its basically a revenge/chase movie. Its not unrelenting action but IMO very well paced. Like I said....some good gore as well.

Well, I'M not a big Vaughn fan. Maybe that explains our different opinions on Old School. Even though, i didn't feel Vaughn was the reason Old School sucked. It just wasn't a very good comedy.
