Saw, Saw 2, over the last ocuple days to immerse myself back into the series before seeing the 3rd. Still prefer the first to the second...dunno what to make of the third 'til I see it.
Started watching "Brother Bear" for the first time. So far, seems pretty good for what it is.

An American Haunting
I'm not a very big fan of ghost stories to begin with, but when they proclaim themselves as unrated and then still don't have any gore in them at all, that's erally toeing the line. Fairly typical haunted house story. The acting was average, the gore nonexistant and the story was pretty damn basic. If you can't tell rom my tone, I was less than impressed. As far as ghost stories go, it was aboput average, but as far as movies in general go, it sucked.

I'm pretty inclined to go with "fuck the critics" on this one...IMO, even though it was a little before my own time (made when I was 5, I believe), it's one of the better scifi films, ever. Solid storyline (for anyone who likes things like Equilibrium, they'd probably like this), great ending, AMAZING soundtrack, interesting concept visuals, (now) very cool retro vibe, Jenny Agutter nude, and the first use of laser holography as I understand it.
Places are practically giving it away now...sad...I can personally find very little wrong with Logans Run.

[QUOTE=Marroe;499083]Saw 3 at the theater... I think I'm changing or something because I had a very hard time watching it. QUOTE]
Why?
What was wrong with it?
I just had a hard time watching it. Either I'm changing and can't handle seeing torture, and gore in movies anymore like I used to, or this movie REALLY crossed a line. It's the first time I actually had to turn my head while watching a movie, and I actually started to feel a little sick to my stomach.
Anyways, last seen was Big Fish a few nights ago (for the 100th time), and now it's on TV...so of couse I'm watching it again.

Wow, I was surprised at how much I liked this. Fast paced, fresh directing style, lots of gore and a good amount of humor as well. Think of it sorta like a Tremors meets Jeepers Creepers with gallons more blood than either. Apparently this is a product of Project Greenlight. If that's the case, then that program has my full support to keep doing what they are doing because this movie was like a breath of fresh air into a fairly stale genre.

Just got back from Saw3...it was ok...but that's about it. Tried to go further over the top with the gore factor, but kinda felt like it was just trying too hard this time. It was good in that it had a slightly more cohesive plot than the second one did, but I just found myself overall disinterested. Really seemed to lack the heart and soul of the first two films...I think any MORE sequels would just further damage this franchise.

Beavis and Butthead do America - Not quite as funny as the initial viewing, but still gets a few chuckles, and it's always been a pretty enjoyable film to me, I was surprised that they managed to pull off a movie as well as they did. Sometimes wish Mike Judge would revisit the series, but hey...oh, and an awesome, AWESOME soundtrack.
"Into the Blue"...was "kinda" curious about this one for a while...so I hired it. I suppose if you like staring at jessica Albas almost completely exposed ass throughout much of the shooting, it'd be ok. It's not too bad, but not really "good" either. Not my kinda film.

Oh, I remember having such fun seeing Gothic in the theatres when it came out.
I had just showed a high school friend "The Bride of Frankenstein" and he particularly loved the opening sequence showing the Shelleys and Byron. He got the biggest kick out of it. So when "Gothic" came out I said, "We gotta see this--this is basically the opening scene of Bride of Frankenstein expanded into a whole movie" and he said "LET'S GO!" and it was the most insane thing to see. Now I feel a hankering for it all over again.

Going back to Gothic for a moment, I noticed there seemed to be a similarity between the scene with John Polidori slamming his hand repeatedly onto the nail in the wall and the scene in Blue Velvet with Kyle McLachlan being beaten up by Dennis Hopper outside the car ("Feel my muscles!").
It's two different scenes, but both characters appear to be experiencing a liberation through pain, of sorts. Polidori is suffering his repressed love and seeks to distract himself by focusing on physical pain, and McLachlan's "Jeffrey Nothing" loses that last shred of the previous view of reality he was hanging onto.
I could be just imagining it, but I think of the two scenes as being very simlar.

Last night, watched the wedding singer.
I like this one...it's not laugh out loud funny, but a few good peices of humour thrown together...more like a girly film that's tolerable for guys...and Sandler not playing a complete retard is a nice change...to this day, I think it's one of his best films. How flawlessly they did the whole mid-80's thing was very cool too. Another top quality soundtrack too. Good family kinda movie this one...and they got Billy Idol, gotta love that.

I don't know about this one... It wasn't the worst movie I've seen, but by no means was it good either. It's hard to tell if the acting was good or not since it was originally filmed in French and the dubbed to English, but the voice acting sucked! Not much gore. I'm not sure if something was lost in translation or if it's sloppy directing/editing but this movie's plot was rather hard to follow as well.

Thank You For Smoking. The Will Ferrells and Adam Sandlers of the world had pretty much destroyed any interest I had in modern comedy, but this film went a long way toward restoring it. Finally, a comedy that relies on witty dialogue for its humor and not ridiculous slapstick/acting like a mentally challenged person. A very funny film, I highly recommend it. Overall: 8/10.

i love clever comedies ...
especially the clash of the sexes comedies from the 30s and 40s .. you'll never find wittier dialogue ... or anything anywhere near as good ever again..
that being said - i cant hate adam sandler..
i just rewatched a pile of his movies with a critical eye - and i find most of them pretty solid and entertaining (until the end where they all seem to die in the big happy resolution brought on by some heart warming speech, etc...)
they all seem to follaw that formula...
but his performance is always solid in my opinion..
i think he'll be like steve martin - his choice in films will improbe and he'll take on more mature subject material .. as was evident in click..
then as he gets old he'll try doing the old schtick again one last time.
(WTF was steve martin thinking when he did the pink panther ??!!)
i think its a path a lot of comedians take .. jim carry is doing it as well...
plus - to be honest - i dont mind goofy comedies now and then .. but i can clearly understand why they would bug other folks ..

Little Monsters
It had been about a decade since I had seen this. It was alright. The Savage brothers (Fred & Boy Meets World) do a pretty good job and the story is certainly unique, but it's pretty tame (PG13 at most. Maybe even PG.) so there isn't really any gore. The humor is minimal and overall, it was only semi-entertaining but if you've got kids that wanna watch horror movies, but are too young for the REAL ones, then this would be pretty good for that age group. My brother in law is in 3rd grade. He loves scary movies (Because he knows I do) but he can't see many of them unless they are showing on tv & edited for content so something like this would be perfect for someone like him. For someone like me though... Well, I wasn't bored, but I wasn't overly entertained either.

One Missed Call
I don't know... Something about all these 'ghost in the technology' movies just seems bland. Haunted video casettes, haunted websites, now haunted cell phones? Miike directed this fairly well and even the voiceover actors did an alright job, but I just couldn't get in to this too much. I did like it more than Audition, but the story was just a little too lame.

TOXIE/ THE TOXIC AVENGER 2
This movie is about the only hideously deformed monster hero w/ super human size and strength from NJ. It's genuinely funny has some really cool and cheesy villains, plenty of Gorey violence, a pretty original story line that sends Toxie wind surfing to Japan. Not to mention Hot Nude Japanese girls!!! :p
What the heck more could ya what from a b movie???!!!!!! :D

Sin City (Recut and extended)...I don't know if it's because I hadn't seen the original version in a while or perhaps didn't examine the features carefully enough or something, but, I didn't notice anything "new"...maybe a few changes in colouring here and there, but then that could just be holes in the memory. Can anyone point out anything obvious in this version?
All the same, still a fucking brilliant film...only the hands-on work of Miller could've made this work so well. This one GLUES me...and finally, LOTS, and lots and lots and lots and lots of extra features, and that's just on disk 1.
Good stuff.

Beowolf and Grendel
Very slow retelling of the famous Anglo Saxon poem. Gerad Butler is good, but the movie really drags along...and much of the "Dane-speak" dialogue is incoherible and that only adds to the boredom. Unless your a fan of the story you should have read in high school, I'd avoid this one.

NM...I noticed after taking the dvd out, and actually examining the damn thing, that the "long cut" was part of the features on the second disk...so, I still have the extended version to look foward too, and that assload of extras...This film, I honestly enjoy every damn time as much as the last, fucking work of art.

Yeah, I really liked the atmosphere of Creep.
Westworld...it's hard not to acknowledge the age when watching this one...I personally enjoy it, kind of like an earlier version of the terminator, perhaps one of the inspirations...but then again, that's just me, I'm a big fan films from the late 60's through the 80's with "visions of the future"...they just have a feel all their own. I mean, it's no Logans Run, but, I liked this one all the same.
The sequel though, shit shit SHIT.
