Peter will have to find the Sacred Scroll that's been stolen from the Imperial Library. The scroll promises "supernatural powers to see through things and to let out power over great distances"... I know he can let out stuff over a great distance, not sure about the 'see through things' bit though.

The last (new) movie that I saw was Mike Nichol's Closer. Obviously not a horror movie but it was brilliant. It's adapted from the Broadway play with Jude Law, Julia Roberts, and Natalie Portman all delivering fantastic performances(paticuliarly Law and Portman). It's a really sad movie though so be warned, by the time the credits began rolling and the beautiful score music was playing I fealt as though I had been punched in the face. That's how much it hurt to see how things worked out for Law's character in the end. It really just didn't seem fair at all and got me a bit angry but not enough to overshadow the fact that it's a wonderful film. Mike Nichol's(The Graduate, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) does his always awesome job as director and the screenwriter (can't remember his name) delivers a great script with lots of emotion and real chemistry between the characters.

Great flick overall, if you're a fan of out-there movies or tragically romantic betrayal than you'll enjoy this film as much as I did hopefully. I give it...

Bah! My internet's been down:mad:

Anyway, I finally got around to seeing Saw. Id definatly go so far as to say this is one of the better horror movies made in the last couple of years. I had already been told by a friend of mine wo the killer turned out to be...but my god! I never thought a movie that I knew how it was going to end would screw with my head so much! Overall, I thought it was great.

Also, I finally got around to watching Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes, which Ive owned for almost a year and havnt bothered to watch it. Very, very good movie, nicely blended intrigue and humour, with a nice little bit of romance added in for good measure. Michael Redgrave, who played Gilbert, was great, as was most of the cast. Definatly a great movie, pity rthat I put off watching it for so long!

LAst night i watched Anchorman: The Legend of ROn Burgundy.
Fucking hilarious. I loved it. If possible, Will Ferrel was slightly over shadowed by Steve Carrel (Brick), possibly one of the funniest men alive.

Champ: I shit a squirrel this morning. Im not talking figuratively, i mean a real squirrel. And it was alive. So now i have this poo covered squirrel at my desk and i dont know what to name it.

Brick: Champ. I'm sorry i ate your chocolate squirrel....

or the best line in the movie:

Ron: Brick, where did you get a grenade?

Brick: I dont know.

"Burnt Offerings" a Dan Curtis classic.

I also watched "Infection" it's by the same director who did Ju-On, and The Grudge.

It was very grudgeish, (is that a word?) but did have some very interesting twists.

Brick's words of wisdom:

You have to watch the out-takes on Bruce Almighty. When Jim Carrey's character is making him screw up his lines on the news cast........real funny shit watching him ad-lib.
I know I've mentioned this before but its worth repeating......Steve Carrel is supposed to be playing Maxwell Smart in a Get Smart movie.Should be good.

I had to get in on this....Steve Carrel is friggin awesome. Ayone seen the american version of The Office? He was the best, and pretty much only, funny person in that. The scene that Newb mentioned in Bruce Almighty was one of the only parts I laughed at the 2nd and 3rd times I saw that movie. And of course, he stole the show in Anchorman. My personal favourite of his lines was when they were introducing themselves at the 1st:

"I'm Brick Tamland. People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks. Years later, a doctor will tell me that I have an I.Q. of 48 and am what some people call mentally retarded."

The Stink of Flesh

low budget independent zombie film that wasnt bad at all ..

the writing was pretty good, 1/2 of the actors did a good job .. there were some laughs and some decent gore..

some zombie effects werent great - the editing got pretty choppy near the end and there was one hell of a bad ending ..

the kind where you go : 'huh .. its over ?'

but still pretty fun .. definately kept you watching.

i bought it because i know the guy who scored it ... just arrived in the mail today ..

I dislike that movie to an insane degree. I am not even sure why. But it just seemed to ignore certain very obvious things that happened along the way in order to push the story forward and that doesn't work with a murder mystery. But I liked The Bone Collector pretty good myself.

Without A Paddle was the last movie I watched.

i didnt see any resemblance to Basic Instinct at all really - no more than any thriller -

i liked the gritty feel to it - reminds me of 70's movies - the closest thing america has come to Giallo actually ..at least in the last 30 years.

Hellboy- Damn I love this movie! Great fun superhero flick....if you like superheros and havnt seen this, check it out ASAP!

Saw- One of the better horror movies made recently. Throughly ejoyed it.

Amittyville 3-D- I wish the version I saw was actually in 3-D. I didnt much care for the 30 second-or-so shot of debris coming at the screen:rolleyes:. Aside from that, I thought this wasnt that bad. Definatly better than the 1st sequel and the remake. owhere near the original though.

National Treasure

Damn that movie was long. Well, it wasnt really THAT long, but it sure seemed like it. Not saying it was bad, I enjoyed the film, but it could have cut so much. That said, itwas a decent movie, nothing amazing, but still pretty good. Nick Cage and Justin Bartha were great, especially Bartha. He had some great lines. But the plot was predictable [WAY beyond predictable], most of the acting wasnt great [Including Cage and Bartha from time to time], and there were some glaring continutity mistakes.

Overall, I liked it but wont watch it again. Definatly recomended if you enjoy modern day action/adventure films, not recomended if you ejoy a movie with a plot that makes you think, or that surprises you...or that doesnt seem like it's the extened edition of a LOTR movie:rolleyes:

Why is it in movies like that, the hero never finds out that their father is a hobo who lives under a bridge? it's always someone rich and important.

"I travelled through the candy land to the candy cane forest. Then i stepped out o fthe lincoln tunnel and found my dad. Puking in a corner and sleeping in his own piss. he was drinking artificial vanilla flavoring for the alchohol. he said it burned less that mouthwash."

The last flick I watched was Girl, Interrupted. Kind of ironic that you're all talking about Angelina Jolie. It was alright, nothing to rave about. Was entertaining though. Before that I watched Team America: World Police and it was fucking HILARIOUS.

HILARIOUS. :D

Star Wars- 8/10, It's definately the best film of the new trilogy and it would've gotten a 9 but I was kinda ticked that Vader didn't do anything.

Cinderella Man- 9/10, Russell Crowe,Renée Zellweger and Paul Giamatti were great. Obviously it's to early to say but if I were just going on the films that've come out this year up to this point I think they would sweep the acting categories at the oscars.
(I think I might just like films with boxing too much, which would be weird since I'm not that big of a fan)

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants- 61/2 out of 10, It wasn't my choice at all my gf wanted to see it but it turned out to be an ok flick.

so far it's pretty much just invasion of the body snatchers - nothing more.

The name reminded me of a great Metallica song/album (mater of Puppets), and the story it was based on was written by Robert A Heinlein, so i thought it might be okay.

I also thought wiring both tongs on a plug together and sticking it into the wall was a good idea when i was a kid. i was wrong twice.

Alone in the Dark-

Who told Tara Reid she could act? Damn, that bitch ruins every movie she's in! Christian Slater and Stephen Dorff are fine, but the plot/story was pretty weak. And I'm 95% sure that I caught a glaring editing error the first and only time I watched this movie.

When they go down that deep hole to retrieve their buddy that fell on the spikes... Just as they reach the bottom and the big cement column comes falling down, there is a lady on the floor that is supposedly dead. As the living members of the party walk away, you can see her head move like she is about to stand up.

Come on studios! You sink millions of dollars into a film, the least you could do is edit it properly.

All in all, I thought the movie was pretty lame... C-

I'm watching Scarecrow: Slayer right now. I'll let you know... This reminds me, there is a part in the original dawn o fthe dead where a zombie is killed. a second later a stand or a tent (i cant remember which) falls down, and the zombie moves on the floor to avoid being landed on.

amazing compelling film.
All shot here in toronto (good luck finding it)

an independant film made by a guy shooting the camera into a mirror - trying to figure out his life - while interviewing vinyl collectors. trying to get to the heart of their obsessions ..

it is funny a lot of the times, very moving at other times ..

its a shame most of you would never be able to find it because the people on this forum would love it - especially the older guys (newb) here.

I still have quite a bit of vinyl [ surely not 1/10 of what urge most likely has].

I do hear the occasional scratch or dust build up though.

my projector is great - especially for free - but once it breaks - it's end of story - unless i can get a couple of good units made from the parts of the 4 or 5 that i have.

the picture is great though - it's an RGB so it has more warmth and depth than the single lens models ..

Star Wars- Empire Strikes Back

some friends and I were debating over which Star Wars film was the best and I thought it was pretty obvious that it was Empire Strikes Back. It's four of us(we completely discarded the one guy that said Return of the Jedi) I said Empire Strikes Back and the other two said Revenge of the Sith, so with Revenge of the Sith still vivid in my memory I watched Empire Strikes Back and decided to stick with my decision. It's clearly the best film of the entire series I don't even know why I doubted it.

i believe i read somewhere (correct me if i'm wrong) that the ewoks or whatever fuck they are were origionally supposed to be a lot yougher - meaner looking - instead of those buck tooth muppets ..

great old film noir with Lucille Ball, George Sanders, and Boris Karloff.

a lot of fun - seems ahead of its time with the plot twist at the end that we see all the time now in thrillers.

Lucille added humor - a rare element in films like these - and she was gorgeous as well.

Boris Karloff played a complete kook in a short but funny performance ..

George Sanders was fantastic as always ..

High Tension- 7/10, decent acting all around, the twist that's used is starting to get old but I couldn't figured it out until 2/3 of the way through I did sort of get the idea early on but dismissed it because at the time it didn't make sense but it slowly started to. I just saw The Exorcist for the fist time, and I must say i was extremely disapointed. that was not scary at all. However I am willing to admit that the film was beautifully directed. But I dont see how anyonme could think that it was scary. A few parts manage to tweak me out a bit, but not scare or startle me. Its good for a laagh, but thats about it.

some of the lines had me laughing pretty good.

"Your mother sucks cock you mother fucker."

"shove it up your ass you cunt"

"fuck you you worthless cocksucker"

"Star Wars" (1977) Basically the original version, but with the "A New Hope" crawl tacked on the beginning.

I have not seen the film without that "New Hope" title, I think, since it was in the theatres, like, way back when.

The freaking movie still works SURPRISINGLY well. The visual effects still look fantastic.

Not very faithful to the book, (obviosly, no movie version of this story is...) but actually a damn good movie. It's on TCM a lot, I suggest it. Short, satisfying film.

Great film, but not a single, sympathetic character, in my opinion (well I did feel a bit for Portman's character because she was so young and just so sad). I pray that I never become quite that cynical about love and sex....lol....I guess it was a little too realistic for me. :(

movies like that are hard to watch .. i appreciate them but they ara a challenge - spending 90 - 120 minutes with a group of people you cant identify with - or even begin to like ..

i've seen a few like that - cant think of any off the top of my head
(early Warhol films maybe)

you can appreciate the film being well crafted - but it's like real life - no-one sane wants to surround themselves with unpleasant people for any amount of time ..

Anyway, I just watched "The Assination of Richard Nixon". Despite having heared great things about him, this is the 1st movie Ive seen with Sean Penn. And he was amazing, absolutly incredible, as Sam Bicke. The whole cast was awesome, but Penn was certainly the shining star. This was a great movie, I highly reccomend it.

I agree with you and Jenna completely. I went to the theatre to see it, and was completely shocked to find out that it WASN'T a love story ;) I don't know, maybe it was just me...but from the trailer's that I saw that's what I thought it was going to be.

Anyway, about 20 people walked out while I was there. I'm not sure if it was from some of the language or just b/c they were so bored, etc. To be honest, I didn't think there was a need for all of the swearing. I felt like most of it was just done to "shock" the audience...it didn't really have a purpose. (and I'm not a prude) ;)

I just couldn't relate to any of the charachters either. They all got what they deserved, really. Also, I didn't understand how the husband of the charachter Julia Roberts played could get so angry at her for cheating on him, when he readily admitted HE cheated while on a business trip! ;) It was like...double standard much?

Anyway, before *I* bore you to tears, I'll shut up. :D

SOME SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE CLOSER BELOW!!!!

Actually I understand exactly why he was so upset with her. He was a completely despicable character and could at times be cruel, but really he seemed to be the most honest of the four central characters. He admitted to his infidelity almost right away, she didn't. And the circumstances were a little different. I don't want to add too many spoilers, so I won't say more than that. Let's just say he went into their marriage blind. She didn't. But all of the characters were creeps. Jude Law's character seemed to be touted as this grand romantic and he was every bit as slimy as the doctor in his own way, for all his obsession with the "truth" he sure as hell didn't seem to live it.

Not a pleasant experience, overall. I will never watch it again, but admittedly there was some fine acting and it was brutally honest in a lot of ways.

three enjoyable short films, somewhat controversial or should I say ethical content in 'Dumplings'. Watch it to see what you think.

The other two got progressivly stonger visually, but of the three, I prefered Chan-Wook's 'Cut', the guy has a way with getting the best out of actors, even though I'm relying on subs throughout the film, you can sence they've put effort into their roles, I've not seen in other modern same genre asian titles.

ChEEbA
06-16-2005, 10:14 AM
Gotta love Total Recall...IMO, Arnies best...when I first saw it, man, I knew it was gonna be one of my alltime favourites.

I just watched Constantine for the first time.
I'm unfamiliar with the comic Hellblazer upon which it was based...so, I can't really give a comparison.
It was "interesting"...very VERY nice effects, the action wasn't anything special for the better part, but it was ok I suppose.
I personally found the plot a little unneccessarily convoluted, and in parts, it felt very long, drawn out, and boring.
Oh, and the dialogue, quite frankly, sucked.
I AM glad I saw this film to satisfy my personal curiosity - I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I'm pretty much mutual on this one, but seeing it again isn't something I'll be striving to do anytime soon.

42ndStreetFreak
