solid film ... it's going to be a little slow for some - i find the 'origions' episodes are usually a little short on action ... but Downey was always fun to watch.

Boogeyman 2 ~ not quite what I was expecting, not sure if that is a good thing, or a bad thing. ;) Not exactly great but kind of works as a slasher. Which basically means mostly silly with a couple of decent death scenes.

Holy shit is this movie AMAZING or what?! If you are a true comic book geek and loved those old issues of Marvel, this is an absolute MUST-SEE for you.

Even if you are not one, go watch it. Its 100 minutes of pure entertainment from start to finish, and Downey is perfect as the lead. No downers, no flaws...this is one rock solid entertainer.

(On a small side note, be sure to catch the ending) ;)

The new Day of the Dead. Just finished it right now and all I can say is laaaaaame. What a garbage movie. Who ever thought introducing young rappers to movies was a good idea needs to be murdered.

I, for one, enjoyed the remake of Dawn so this movie was especially terrible. I can't even describe how worthless the movie was and I can find redeeming qualities in most movies.

Don't pay for it.

If you're a zombie purist, watch it once so you can say you've seen it.

It gets a big D from me.

Bad porno acting, destroyed storyline, Spiderman skills from zombies and when you introduce said young rapper and have hims spouting lines like "Save that shit for Oprah!" and "it looks like a Puffy video" it makes everyone look bad.

The Golden Compass- 7/10

I really enjoyed this. I liked the acting, the plot, everything. It looked amazing too. My only real problem with the film was the pacing. It wouldve been fine if it was longer, they didn't need to make it fast forward the whole time. Also, the action scenes were too rushed. other than that I thought it was an enjoyable fantasy/adventure.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I want to be very, very clear that Cloverfield entertained me quite a bit, and I did like it.

i didnt find it any more gimmicky than any other horror film ...

i thought it had a story to tell - and it told it. i enjoyed the performances, i enjoyed the progression of events ... and i'll probably see the film several times more.

as i mentioned - something is definately lost once you take the film out of the theatre - it's a giant monster film that works best with a giant screen to maintain the aspect ratio between the small you and the humoungous 'it'

but seeing it a second time just reinforced to me how incredibly well made it was.

i actoually found it less gimmicky than any other horror film i've seen in ages - and by that i mean dispite the fantasy premise it took the approach of what would happen if this was possible - and i believe the events and the actions of the characters were extremely natural and believable.

Sunshine ~ had some problems with the last few minutes, but I loved most of it.

Danika ~ some of it is surprisingly good. Tomei was good as the lead. Some would have a problem with the ending, I know. Oh and Craig Bierko annoyed the hell out of me, so that hurt it a bit for me as well. Overall, definitely had its moments, but not great.

The Marsh ~just a bore for the most part, but I absolutely hated the ending.

American Gangster ~ liked it a lot, a solid film with good performances by Washington and Crowe (oh and so happy to see Josh Brolin pop up in another good movie! ;) )

And also, American Gangster put me in the mood for L.A. Confidential, so watched most of that last night as well.

I saw it out of the blue when an ex girlfriend hired it. Don't think I would've watched it otherwise because of the cast (Jo Lo, Will Smith, Ben Affleck). I remember discussing it with you awhile back espcially how it made me appreciate the whole love story flick a lot more.

I agree with you that its his best film. Its a really mature well written flick with a bunch of the elements that made his other films so great... its the same way I feel about Tarantino's Jackie Brown.

Could have easily been a bore, but it wasn't. A dark, interesting film.

i'm the same ..

but the polluting here was done on an epic scale .. i cant even remember the amout of raw sewage that gets dumped in the lakes every time there is a backup in the sewers

or all the pesticides and poisons that run off into the lakes ..

they mentioned there were something like 65 hot spots still in the lakes - where the toxic content is up to 50% in the silt at the bottom of these areas..

it showed a family of eagles - the babies didnt survive because they were fed mostly lamprey eel .. which are bottom feeders in one of the hot spots ..

they also said there were abouit 180 foriegn species of marine life that had been introduced to the great lakes .. some intentionally - but most not - as a result of being in the bilge water of the ocean going ships ..

most of these things change the environments they invade - and not for the better.

The Hottie and the Nottie:
This was a decent watch. It was just mindless fun. It wouldn't have been shit on nearly as much if it did not star Paris Hilton. My fuck, she can't even act at a basic level. HOW DOES SHE GET ROLES? Oh wait, I know...

Teeth:
Not as perfect as I had hoped it to be, but it was quite good. I would have preferred an all out cheese-fest but it stayed pretty tame. My favourite scene being the Doctor's Office scene. A sense of dread, and a tone of hilarity. Just so much fun.

The Cottage:
I CANNOT SAY THIS ENOUGH. If you are a big fan of Shaun of the Dead, you have to see this... asap! It's a UK-based horror/comedy. The set-up takes a while, but once you get past it... wow. It's so funny! I don't usually find myself laughing this hard when corpses are being brutally hacked into bits. But I did. It's quite gory, too.

Inside:
See it. Now. One of the goriest films I've ever seen. And some really genuinely creepy moments. "You're husband's not asleep, Sarah. He's dead." BRRR.

Diary of the Dead:
Didn't do it for me. HATED the camera guy, totally unlikable. The characters all had REALLY scripted lines, and would turn to the camera in a prolific pose... and act all high-and-mighty. Famous quotes left right and center, and so on. THAT totally ruined the "realistic" camera style. There were times when I thought the switching between cameras ruined it, as well. It didn't feel like it was handheld enough, y'know? AND WHY DID ROMERO USE CGI BLOOD? D: But it had a good message behind it. Not as deserving as the hype it's getting, IMO.

[REC]:
Amazing. One of the best "realistic" handheld camera movies. It FELT like it was real. The actors did an amazing job. And this movie genuinely creeped me out like no movie has in a LONG time.

HAIRSPRAY (the musical)

Not as good as John Water's original, but fun and campy and it still retains a slightly trashy edge to it. The music is better than most musicals I've seen recently. John Travolta is creepy and wierd in drag, but I love his Baltimore accent - he over did it a bit, but got the spirit of it down pat. James Masden continues to surprise me... he has mad fucking skills.

If you don't like musicals, it won't convert you. But it's a hell of a lot more fun and entertaining than DREAMGIRLS and the music is beter the SWEENEY TODD.

While I don't consider this "one of th best action films ever" like some people seem to have, I think it was pretty solid, and among Marvels best.
The origin story was pretty much right on the mark, and I think RDJ played a pretty good Stark.
A good point someone made is that it was reminiscent of transformers in parts - but you could actually tell who was attacking who.
A solid movie, funny, and a good introduction to the universe/character.

Mardi Gras Massacre

One of the original "video nasties" which I believe remains banned in Britain to this day.

Not that there is really anything that should keep it banned - I think the most likely thing is that no-one has bothered to submit it for reclassification.

It is low budget and poorly acted. However it is not without its charm. I actually found myself enjoying it.

The murders are all the same. Exactly the same, in fact. This is not a movie big on variety.

However it does have a low budget grindhouse charm that kept my interest. This is one of those films that I found "so bad it's good".

Happily Ne'er after: Sigh.... It had Andy Dick in the cast, do i really need to elaborate?

I will anyway. I had never heard anythign good about it, but figured it might be at least so-so...

Man, Pixar set the bar way to high when they introduced cgi only movies. this thing SUCKED. Sigourney weaver sounded like she just showed up and belted out her lines, Sarah Micjelle Gellar and Freddy Prinze Jr have all the voice charisma of a toad that has been run over by a car, and Andy Dick is, well, Andy Dick. hearin ghim is jarring and pulls you out of whatever fantasy they might have created on the screen.

THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY

Poetic, lyrical, brilliant. The camera is fluid, the acting is honest and the story is seemless. I liked the book, I LOVE the film. Schnabel's best film work to date...and I am now expecting briliiance from him every time out. Add Emannuelle Siegner's greatness in both her acting and her song on the soundtrack (and the fact that she's the lead in GIALLO) and it's damn near perfect.

And when they sew his eyelid shut... harrowing!!!!

An American Crime (2007)

An innocent teenage girl (acted by Ellen page) locked in the basement and then tortured (so...recommended for Disease:D ) by a crazy woman and her children, even sometimes the neighborhood friends of her kids also joined with them.....based on a actual events that is quite similar to Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door. I'm not sure but perhaps both films seems like inspired by the same true story.

The Cottage....starts off as a kidnap/comedy type flic...works its way into slasher/comedy....not a bad effort at all....I laughed a few times and there was some decent kills as well. 7/10

How was it compare to The Girl Next Door?

How was it compare to The Girl Next Door?

I think The Girl Next Door was more hard-hitting and below the belt, and had some really outstanding performances.

An American Crime was decent...meh, with plenty of soft blows.

I just with The Girl Next door had more meat, it stayed in the same place story wise for so long that it didn't really work for me. It was vicious though, and even though I didn't love it I wouldn't feel bad suggesting it to people looking for a film like that.

You would think with quotes like, "Go fumigate yourself crap-head!" and "Sex, guts, blood, and all men are mothers!" this movie would have been better. Even a decapitation could save this H.G. Lewis "classic" from the pits of mediocrity. I didn't hate it, but it's not on my list of must see films.

Ginger Snaps 2. I've owned it on vhs for a few years now but had no vcr. I finally got around to it and was actually very impressed. Well written, if not for a few jokes that seemed dated. great acting and soundtrack/score. Loved the ending and little bits of Canadiana.

I Am Legend ~ first of all, I LOVE the story, so probably not a big shock that I didn't care much for this movie. It started off very promising....the first hour or so was pretty good....but unfortunately the CGI kind of ruined it for me.

We Own the Night ~ it wasn't bad....but I was a bit disappointed. The acting was fine, the story was fine....but it just wasn't very memorable. Not a terrible way to pass a couple of hours though.

I thought I am Legend was an alright film as far as action films go. But story can be so much more - and that is evident by some of the earlier adaptations.

The action was "big" and "spectacular" but the film, the characters didn't have the same depth and charm as in, say, The Omega Man.

So yeah, as a SFX spectacular it was ok, as a story it was pretty forgettable.

it could have been really easy to have made a sloppy job of this but the filmmakers kept their focus on the detail and had a great cast to work with.

I thought the creatures looked awful. It was okay when you only caught glimpses of them.....but once you started seeing a lot of them, it took away from the film, in my opinion.
But I admit, I might have been more forgiving of that fact had I not went into the film REALLY wanting to see the book done justice. It COULD have been great, and like I said, it started out promisingly enough. But the last few minutes were just....bad.

VERY good french film. It's a drama, and a very well made one at that. Sort of a cross between Mr. Holland's Opus and The Dead Poet Society. The acting is very impressive (especially since most of the actors in the film are young boys), and the ending is perfect.

Return- I think you might like this one. Maybe...
