Barnyard: Another typical animal-based CGI flick, complete with an over-preached message. I wish I was still 5 so I could get some enjoyment out of these.

Creepshow 3
I've only ever seen the first Creepshow movie, and I really enjoyed it. I've been hearing nothing but negative things about this sequel, but I must say... even when I had decided to hate it beforehand, I ended up really enjoying it. The animation and title sequence was horid, IMO, and I was sad to see that no Creeper / Comic Book existed. Based on this, I was expecting the worst. The first story had terrible acting, and didn't make much sense to me, so the expectations stayed the same. But after that, there was a giant leap in quality. I loved every story beyond that, and even looking back, I can appreciate the first. Each story is inter-connected by various characters, which is interesting and creates a sort of "time-line" in which everything occurs. Pretty wild. The stories are equally over-the-top and hillarious as the first (even more so, perhaps) and the wierd factor is definately there. I dug this, I have to admit, and it certainly isn't as terrible as most people make it out to be.

Cult
A low-budget horror movie with some stars one might recognize from television. The entire opening feels like a trailer, a bad trailer (quick cuts timed to the beats in the background music). Yet after that we are treated to some nice, bright, and colourful camera shots. It sucked me in. It's obvious the director has some talent, but I don't think he quite reached his potential in this film. It fell sort of flat. It plays out like a typical teenager slasher, only with a cult aspect thrown in. Like Bloody Mary (which I watched earlier), I guess... only this time the cult came off as very... lame, and cheesy (not in the good way, either). It was an asian-based cult, and I couldn't help but get the vibe that someone working on the film was one of those white kids with a crush on martial arts, who think they're japanese or something. I don't know. It had strong acting, and good gore. The ending section just felt boring, and I stopped watching occassionally. Camera work, directing, and even acting to a certain level dropped significantly from the first act to the second. It's like they were loosing interest, just like I was.

I wouldn't reccomend it, but hey...

Next up is 2007's Grim Reaper. Time to see how much of a rip-off it is of Final Destination, with a premise like this:
"Death comes for us all, but after surviving a car crash that should have taken her life, Rachel Wilson finds herself stalked by the Grim Reaper himself intending on taking a soul he feels he is owed. Barely conscious in the ER room, Rachel struggles to convince the nurses that Death is coming for her and that her life is hanging in the balance. Supposedly, for her own protection, Rachel is locked up in a secure mental health facility. But it's not long before she discovers that her incarceration in the old hospital was no coincidence, surrounded by six other "patients" who, themselves, have cheated death. Over the course of the night they will have to face their worst fears, their own mortality, and Death himself."

Oh, Rogers Video... you deliver me such goodness with your wall of endless B-movies. :) (Oddly enough I do enjoy b-movies more then the average person should.)

I really enjoyed Shortbus. It's not for everyone, and it's very sexual... but somehow... I felt like it was the most realistic piece of cinema I've seen in a while. The most honest. The MPAA exists so all cinema doesn't end up like this, it protects our little fairy tale world. The realism in this was a fresh feeling. They didn't shy away from nudity, or use cheap tricks. They presented it like life was.

Canadian 24/7 Horror/Thriller channel. Pretty cool if you can get past the fact it has commercials (they're only about 5-10 minutes per hour of programming... pretty short and infrequent breaks and are mostly just telling you what's coming up next.)

They air some good stuff, usually... and I find the little intros they do before the movies to be quite enjoyable (they use character persona's such as... dominatrix; girl with ape friend; etc... to give a brief over-view and shed some light on the film before it starts.)

Trauma

Awaking from a coma to discover his wife has been killed in a car accident, Ben's (Colin Firth) world may as well have come to an end. A few weeks later, Ben's out of hospital and, attempting to start a new life, he moves home and is befriended by a beautiful young neighbour Charlotte (Mena Suvari). His life may be turning around but all is not what it seems and, haunted by visions of his dead wife, Ben starts to lose his grip on reality...

My favorite kind of movies are the ones involving a descent into madness, so I loved the idea behind the movie. There was a point near about 3/4 of the way through where I decided I actually liked it. At first I thought that it was just a bad version of Jacob's Ladder but they seemed to get away from that after the first half hour. I thought the acting was pretty convincing, the story is really confusing at first but you can figure it out without too much trouble later on. I would have liked it more if it were scarier, he had a lot of hallucinations that kind of ended just before they could be scary.

Anyway, I liked it. :)

Little Nemo - adventures in Slumberland.

i dont know if anyone is familiar with this - but its based on a 1904 comic strip.
I have a huge anthology of these comics and they were brilliant. Each pane painstakenly drawn in great detail .. back when people put time and care into their craft.

anyway - it was interesting to see how it was translated to a modern cartoon - and bless them - they actually tried to recreate the look and feel of the origional strip - and included a lot of things that happened in those old comics.

it wasnt perfect - but it was cool to see.

Watched it a bunch of times when I was a kid, haven't seen it since though.

TCM--The Beginning 6.5/10

*****************spoilers********************

If you liked the 2003 remake you may like this. Its pretty much the same movie. Why call this "The Beginning" when that whole part consisted of a deformed baby being born in a meat packing plant...thrown in the dumpster...found by crazy family....flash forward to maybe a week before the 2003 remake......thats the beginning?....no explanations of where these people came from or why they are all fucking nuts. For a TCM movie it was ok...but its been done to death. It is always fun to see R. Lee Emery do his Sgt. Hartman character on acid shtick though.

The Libertine

This has to be one of the most boring wastes of time I've ever had the displeasure of sitting through. I saw it had Johnny Depp & John Malkovich, both whom I consider to be excellent actors, and I vaguely remembered the previews looking interesting, so I rented it not really knowing what it was about. Whoops. This sucked! If I had known I was entering into a film about a classical era poet, I probably would have skipped it. There was literally no action, humor or anything remotely interesting. Just a slow paced, boring movie with no real point other than illustrating the life of some unknown, drunk and horny poet from a couple hundred years ago. Yawn...

I thought it sucked BIG TIME and I wouldn't even recommend it to someone I considered an enemy.

D- Only because I can't bare to flunk a Johnny Depp film.

Trick or Treat

Ah, the power of deceptive advertising.... I checked this out because I was led to believe that Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne were main characters. In reality, they share probably a grand total of 5 minutes screen time. Anyways, this was a decent 80s flick about a heavy metal rock star that comes back from the dead via an unreleased album getting played backwards to wreak havoc on the town's unsuspecting teenagers.

It was decent, but not great by any means. Tolerable though.

D+

The Wicker Man (Remake)

Is it just me? Or does labeling something "With shocking alternate ending" lead one to believe that more than 1 ending would actually be included on the DVD. Anyways, here's the deal... I didn't see this in theatres. It came from Netflix the other day and I watched it yesterday morning. I reached the end of the film and then went to extras to see the alt. ending and there wasn't one. WTF? So I am assuming the "Shocking alternate ending" was the one that I saw on the film, but in that case I think they should have put an option to view the original theatrical ending as well, because I hadn't seen it. In any event, I only saw 1 ending and now I doubt it was even the one that everyone else saw when they checked it out in theatres.

All in all, I actually liked this better than the original for a few reasons. My gripes with the original were that there was too much weird singing and hippy dancing going on and this remake seemed to eliminate the majority of that. I also liked how the remake basically had the island belong to a cult of women. What I did not like was the addition of the "twist" (if you can call it that) about how the cult orchestrated everything. That was just a little too far-fetched and unbelievable. I had feared a happy Hollywood ending, so I was glad to see that the (shocking alternate) ending remained fairly loyal to the original.

Overall, I was entertained by this more than I am by most remakes, but this is also a remake I don't have any beef with them making in the first place because I always felt like the original left a lot of room for improvement.

I thought it was less than average. All the parts that didn't involve Rory Cochrane, Woody Harrelson or Robert Downey Jr. were just painfully boring. I think it could have been waaaaaay better.

I really didn't know anything about this movie other than Matt Dillon was in it and my younger brother was an extra in a couple scenes. I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. The comedic timing seemed great to me even though it's not really a comedy. It's more of a drama with some bits of comedy mixed in, but I think it worked well.

i just dont get the choice to make film, and convert it to a cartoon .. it was done before..

did it give any kind of advantage to the story - enable them to do special effects or something ?

i just think its a style choice that works once ... and thats it..

I think it worked very well actually. Yeah, it helped with a lot of special effects but it helped the overall feel the most.

Too bad when Return was looking for monologues I forgot this movie...

"Bullet Tooth Tony: So, you are obviously the big dick. The men on the side of ya are your balls. There are two types of balls. There are big brave balls, and there are little mincey faggot balls.

Vinny: These are your last words, so make them a prayer.

Bullet Tooth Tony: Now, dicks have drive and clarity of vision, but they are not clever. They smell pussy and they want a piece of the action. And you thought you smelled some good old pussy, and have brought your two small mincey faggot balls along for a good old time. But you've got your parties mangled up. There's no pussy here, just a dose that'll make you wish you were born a woman. Like a prick, you are having second thoughts. You are shrinking, and your two little balls are shrinking with you. And the fact that you've got "Replica" written down the side of your gun and the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O" written down the side of mine should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now... Fuck off!"

Yes, in a way, but also no.

Helen Mirren was fantastic...she really did throw down an Oscar-worthy performance, and she's probably the reason the film remained solid for me.

However, if you're a current media/news buff you'll love the political research and connections...my mom was really into the Princess Diana incident (I saw the movie with her), so she was fascinated by the storyline and said the depiction was pretty damn accurate.

It's definately worth a look.

I hated Brokeback Mountain. It wasn't anywhere near amazing as everyone claimed it to be, and it certainly wasn't a love story. I was not convinced at all by the so-called "amazing performances". And no, I'm not homophobic. When I say I hated this movie, that's the first response I get. I was expecting something more. Not an hour of sheep, a quick fuck in a tent, and then two men horny for each other the rest of the film. I felt like their relationship was nothing but that. Sex. Once in a while; fishing. Fucking (I felt like we didn't even see their relationship - just the romping. Passionate kissing, sex, then a 5 minute talk. No romance whatsoever. Jake's character even started seeing other men. That's love, huh? The greatest love story of the year? I don't think so. The ending wasn't even a tearjerker as many claimed to bawl. It was sub-par to me, and did not deserve all the attention it got.

Ahem. Sorry, I always get angered when that movie comes up, mainly because I was expecting it to be good and it just flat out wasn't.

The Matador - Finally in the club. Seems everyone here has seen this one already, and have enjoyed it. I thought it might be ruined due to all the hype I was witnessing, but to my surprise... it was entirely different then what I was expecting, and I loved it all the same. A great film, and definitely one I would reccomend. :) "That's it."

I thought that movie was decent for being a new horror movie, using a somewhat too common of plot line. I liked when they thought that one guy was dead but he was just toking a bong.

I just got done watching John Carpenters: Vampires last night (and no not the one with Bon Jovi)

National Lampoons - Going the Distance...One of the companies weakest efforts, this was just not funny to me.

Beerfest - It had a few moments of crapiness, but other than those, it was good fun. I was apprehensive about seeing this on account of Broken Lizards last fuckup of a film (Club Dread - Hated every thing about it), and where this is no "super troopers", I think the folks at Broken Lizard have redeemed 'emselves in my eyes, with this one.
I'll be keeping an eye out for Super Troopers 2, late 2007.

Fantastic 4 - Rewatched...not bad, not great. Some elements I really liked, and were true to the comic (the torch/thing ballbusting was great), others I didn't...Dooms origin, the almost blank sue storm and reed richards, the plot wasn't outstanding either...it's an "ok" watch, but not one of my comic-based favourites.

Scary Movie 1 - IMO still the best of the lot.
It's lost something since first watching it, but still evokes the laughs, and makes me wonder if the Wayans brothers couldn't have made a bunch of better films than they have since...

Dirty Sanchez - The Movie.
This was great....good music, crazy STUPID stunts. Makes Jackass look bland.
Nice appearance by the tokyo shockboys too...

DeRailed - Ok, not great.
Now that the "twist" element is gone (although I kind've saw SOMETHING like that coming) I don't think I'll much enjoy watching this one again.
If you haven't seen it, I'd reccomend hiring, not buying.

Toy Soldiers - A bit laughable by todays standards, but still watchable and fun...Some nicely done kills in there too...

They're making a sequel to super troopers? \:D/

Phalanx

Yup
A prequel to the 2002 film Super Troopers is in production due to be released in 2008. This will take place in the 1970s and will follow the fathers of the main characters in the original film
Sorry, 2008.

Also, some other stuff wiki says they're working on/considering

The Babymaker: a comedy about a man with bad sperm (Heffernan) who breaks into a sperm bank to retrieve some sperm that he had donated five years earlier, but which is now promised to someone else

Ambulance Chasers: a comedy that tells the story of a couple of ferociously aggressive personal-injury lawyers fighting over a new client

Take My Wife: a comedy directed by Chandrasekhar that revolves around an average guy who jokingly swaps wives with a Hollywood superstar

Greek Road: an R-rated comedy set in Ancient Greece. The movie will follow Heffernan as a young Plato who is a freshman wrestling student at Athens University. Plato is planning to wrestle for the university in the Olympics, but he is failing his Basic Thought class; so the university hires Socrates, a senior played by Lemme, to tutor Plato. Plato ends up cheating and passing the class, and the two travel to Mt. Olympus together. On the road, Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades (played by the other three members) make bets on whether or not Plato and Socrates will make it and begin getting in their way

^^That one could be really cool...^^

Potfest: at the end of the film Beerfest, the main characters are invited to compete in a marijuana-smoking contest, and the words "Potfest - Coming Soon" appear on-screen. The group are now considering making Potfest into an animated sequel to Beerfest. However, on Broken Lizard's Myspace page they stated that this was just a joke that got turned into a rumor.

They also did a movie before super troopers called "Puddle Cruiser", one I might try to get a copy of...I can now safely say I like "most" of their stuff.

Was thinking about watching that one myself tonight, but I got sidetracked...

Did you like it?

I love the original. Rutger Hauer is great as John Ryder, pure evil.

Was thinking about trying to catch the remake this weekend, but if we can get a sitter I've got to see The Departed.

Dirty Sanchez the movie 2/10
, I had never seen the show, these guys anoyed the fuck out of me especially that blond haired one who keeps crying like a girl.

Syriana 4/10 I don't care about these characters or thier lives. And the cinematography made me sick in the gut.

The Book of revelation 6/10, a good erotic thriller, but a little flat.

I love this movie. Tom Selleck is one of the few actors nowadays who actually looks like he belongs in a western. Great action, good acting and the right amount of humor. A wonderful film. To bad they never made a sequel.

The Underground Comedy Movie

Er.... Did someone forget to tell these guys that movies have plots and characters and that comedy's are supposed to be funny? This "movie" was basically about 3 different takes of about 10 different mini-sketches. A few were reomtely funny, most were not. Overall, I was bored with this. Think of it like Jackass, a bunch of random, stupid skits but scripted and trying way too hard to be funny and then they try to thread some loose-fitting nonsensical plot through a couple of the scenes... What we end up with is this waste of time. Excellent soundtrack though.

D The soundtrack and three or four funny parts spared it from an 'F'.

Bad Religion: The Riot

This was a pretty cool hour long video showing some old late 80s/early 90s Bad Religion footage. I enjoyed this because every time I've seen them live, it's been much more recent and they've played newer material so it was cool to see some of their old shit being played live. The footage of the 1990 riot in North Hollywood that started because the fire marshalls shut down a Bad Religion show before it ever started was not as graphic or cool as I was hoping, but it was still a pretty awesome spectical of anarchy. The theatre that was supposed to host the show was 100% ransacked, swat teams in riot gear, paramedics, fire departments with water hoses and helicopters with search lights were all called in to disperse the unruly mob. Pretty entertaining film, but not the greatest sound quality on some of the concert footage from 1988.

Dazed and Confused

This is just one of those movies I can watch over and over and it never seems to lose it's appeal. Aside from Big Lebowski and Vacation, there are not too many comedys I can say that about. Expertly cast & written. Fantastic soundtrack. Good actors across the board and just an overall excellent movie. No matter how much I watch it, it doesn't get old.

I didn't like #2 quite as much...felt as though the first one was just more artistically inclined...didn't hate the second, just wasn't all that impressed.
I'm still waiting for the "supposed" version that's out there with both of these together with some extra footage thrown in...simply 'cos I think that the second one truly would've worked better stuck on the ass end of the first.

Started watching "wedding crashers" last night...turned it off after about 10 minutes, just didn't seem funny at all, might give it another chance later today before I return it, but so far, really not feeling it.

Nine Lives

This movie sucked! Let's start with the most obvious problem... It stars Paris Hilton and the bitch can't act. Now, I don't mind suffering through some of her terrible acting as long as their is a nasty death scene in her future, but that's not the case here. I won't give anything specific away but trust me when I say that you will be severely disappointed in how she gets it. (What? Like you really thought she would survive the film?)

Okay on top of the problem of Hilton's lousy acting & lackluster death, the script is boring & slow paced, the characters are bland and I really couldn't have cared less if they all made it out alive or all got killed as long as whatever happened was followed by the credits. Uninteresting, non-gory and non-entertaining. Stay away from this shitfest.

F
