The Usual Suspects, now my favorite movie EVER.

you only got round to watching that now? it is a great movie. 'there's no fucking dope!' in an irish accent. apparently the bit in the police lineup when they all laugh at fensters english is an outtake that they included. benicio's english mustn't have been too good back then

This movie, I was a bit skeptical to watch for the fact that I had really high expectations for. I wasn't disapointed. This is a fantastic movie and personally I think it should be in everyones collection. Probably the best movie of last year and most likely the best DVD release for this year.

Okay, first off, I'm going to point out that this is pretty much the Japanese version of House Of Wax. That being said, it's a pathetic version of it. The whole story really makes no sense, the ending is confusing, and it has some of the stupidest scenes I've seen in a long time scattered all over the film. I wouldn't suggest anyone getting this movie personally. The only good parts were the few gory parts.

I didn't really...just me. Although I liked one part "I'm in you're house now, call me"...reply - That's fuckin' crazy man...made me laugh.

I liked eraserhead a lot if only for the visual style and weirdness...which may have just been for weirdness sake as some have pointed out, but it still stands up and takes your mind on a funny journey regardless.
If you've seen and enjoyed eraserhead, I'd suggest having a look at the asian film "tetsuo: the iron man" which I mentioned over in the other thread. It's more towards horror, and goes to different kind've extremes, but I found both films slightly reminiscant of the other. Although if you found eraserhead fucked with you a little, this one does, a LOT.

Havent seen mulholland dr...I should probably check it out.

Nothing to do with it really, but a similar style of film that will definately evoke some similar reactions. It's as I said, a little more towards "horror", it's about a man who encounters a being and after a certain incident finds himself transforming into a mechanical creature. The whole film feels and sounds like a nightmare...but yeah, if you are a fan of the things eraserhead does, then you will like this one.

Had a touch of insomnia last night so ended up watching the movie channel while the early hours, watched this trio.

Turbulence-
Ray Liotta goes OTT in this daft thriller, some of the set pieces really are stupid and not the least bit believable, but as late night brainless entertainment goes it fitted the bill quite well.6/10

Turbulence 2:Fear of Flying-
Even dumber than the first one with yet more ridiculous set pieces, plenty of hammy acting and best of all a freeze frame smiley faced happy ending.A cheesy time filler.5.5/10

The Warriors-
An old favourite of mine.Lightning paced action, funky clothing and a great soundtrack, even now the movie still drips of "Cool".The cartoonish gangs are great,The Baseball furies being my favourites,in fact the the chase and subsequent rumble between The Warriors and the Baseball Furies is just about my favourite sequence in the movie. The acting is pretty solid throughout, although there are some wooden performances along the way(The Leader of the Orphans for example),the action is superb and the settings are wonderfully realised. Can you dig ittttttt!!!!!!!9/10

Alright, so in a way, I'm kind of sorry I even wasted my time with this. The acting was horrible and it wasn't the best story I've ever heard, so it's not something I look forward to tomorrow (though I have to). Pan's Labrynth

After hearing nothing but good things about this film for the past several months, my expectations were fairly high. As usual, when I get my hopes up, they are quickly crushed. I found this movie to be too long, boring and slow paced to get in to at all. Sure, some of the visual effects were great, but by the point we reached them, I didn't give two shits about the characters, the story or the film itself. Plus, from what I could tell, most of the visually spectacular stuff was revealed in the previews. I wasn't impressed or entertained by this one.

C-

Apocalypto

This was cool. Dark story, lots of violence and action, and the subtitles didn't bother me because they kept the dialogue to a minimum. I really enjoyed this one. Great film.

Amazing costuming, make-up, gore, sets and a dizzying pace makes this one a damn good time, but...

SPOILER WARING
I'm not buying the solar eclipse scene at all. The Maya were incredible astronomers and mathematicians. They mapped the paths of the sun, moon and stars with incredible precision - I'm pretty sure they'd know exactly when a solar eclipse would occur.

Great performance by Forrest Whittaker, intriguing story and the bonus of a small role from Gillian Anderson:) . But why must we have a white protagonist in a story about Africa? Same thing as in Blood Diamond...it just makes it all feel so phony. But Kerry Washington, the actress playing one of Amin's wives, Kay is so stunning that she makes up for it.

not only does this movie rock, but it has a good soundtrack, Zeke is hot, and i love the car. when i get a car that is what it will be, this was decided in second grade.

i watched all of these movies last night because i was bored and wasn't allowed on the internet cause my douche of a stepdad wanted to sleep downstairs cause it was too fucking hot upstairs. so i watched movies all night, i ended up dozing off sometime during the Faculty, waking up at various odd times. so now i'm running on like 4 hours of sleep, which for me isn't good cause i get extremely cranky without at least 8 hours of sleep. this is just another example of how stupid i am when i get really, really, really bored. however, i did manage to get some laundry done.

Black X-mas (remake)- 6/10

It was better than I expected it to be actually. It isn't *good* by any means, but the kills are fantastic, and the acting is overrall acceptable. The gore is really good, it's worth a view for the gore alone. It isn't scary or anything, but this is worth at least a rent. The thing is... it's not like the original... meaning the killer. It's weird, you'll see. It actually makes decent sense at times, but overrall is random. It's ok for a mindless slasher gore fest though.

Nothing like the first one at all. Although, in my personal opinion, that's a good thing. It didn't try to live up to what the original film was, nor did it try too hard to be a better film. Four Rooms.

Didnt expect much from this one, but it was surprisingly good. All the characters turn in decent performances, and it has some really quirky humor interspersed with some genuinely funny sequences.

Overall, a nice comedy. Recommended by me.

House on the Edge of the Park.

Much publicised Ruggero Deodato of Cannibal Holocaust fame tries his hand at (s)exploitation. And does it rather neatly. The most adamant critic will shout "rip-off of Last House on the Left", but actually House is much more...its sadistic, brutal, hard-hitting and it leaves a feeling of absolute distaste and repulsion by the time its over. A totally graphic and realistic movie, with a neat plot twist tucked in it.

Recommended for the gorehounds out there. Not for the feeble-minded or the squeamish.

You know, this movie got a lot of flack for being remade. But the fact that Romero rewrote the script and had something to do with it would have given it more credit. Yeah the acting was not that great, but Tony Todd pulls off an awesome performance which makes you forget about the others.

Tom Savini directed this and I could not think of a better person (maybe Zombie) to have done this. Tom has done a lot of films with George, they make a good collaboration.

Watched most of Truffaut’s Shoot the Piano Player. Turned it off about 2/3 of the way through. I’ve just read the novel it’s based on – Down There, by David Goodis – and the film didn’t add anything to the book, and removed a lot of good stuff, too, so it didn’t feel worth it.

The Nun ~ as much as I love the idea of an evil or vengeful nun as a villian in a horror movie, it doesn't deliver. Pretty lame "twist" as well. Doesn't fit into the so bad it is fun catagory, its pretty forgettable. But surprisingly, some of the visuals are pretty good.

Subject Two ~ actually liked this one. A pretty interesting Frankenstein tale. It doesn't explain itself very well at all, and is a bit slow at times. But the character is sympathetic, the story is intriguing, and the setting is nice. Oh and a nice little twist at the end. Not bad. :)

The only plus was that it had Jay (of Jay & Silent Bob fame) in a pretty prominent role in which he basically plays that same character (no Kevin Smith by his side though).

I just watched "See No Evil" and it was better than I expected. I really thought it would be a horrible movie because it is from WWE. I kinda thought it was good as it had a good plot and some nice gory deaths. It wasnt a great movie but I enjoyed it better than the horrible "The Hitcher" remake and even "Hannibal Rising".

The Hitcher remake was pretty blah.....It really bothered me how they transfered parts between the girl and guy....I just could not get over that for some reason....The music was good in it, and Sean Bean oozes with evil in the flick.....Maybe I will give it another shot in about a year....

Was watchable but not all that interesting or active.
First kill was good in a cheesey way from then on I was bored (I fell asleep on first attempt to watch).
Probably not one I will watch again.

The Fly(Remake)

Ok, so maybe my expectations were a little too high for this film, but come on, you have to agree with me that it was slow moving and nothing like the original. This wasn't so much a remake as much as a remix. It's nothing like the original, which to me, kind of ruined it. I loved the original version. This one, I believe I actually could have done without seeing.

Its just like the original, with girls this time. And the gore isnt even decent in this one. Skip it, if you get the chance. Or if you have absolutely nothing else to do with your time, you may risk a watch.

You have been warned.

It sucks bad, man. Apart for some gore and plenty of nudity, (ala the original) it has nothing to offer.

I had only seen this in bits and pieces so it was about time I sat down & watched it from start to finish. It's bad ass. Christopher Walken is awesome in it, as is Laurence Fishbourne. David Caruso, Wesley Snipes and small parts for Chris Rock & Steve Buscemi make this a cast loaded with talent. Needless to say, the acting is excellent, the story is cool, the violence is abundant and the ending unhappy. I loved it.

A movie much like "The butterfly effect" and "the jacket", but far from as good.

Sandra Buldog was terrefic though. Nice to see her in a serious role instead of her usual goofy/cute and pukable ones that has been her trademark for over a decade. Bravo.

The Illusionist

Ed Norton's an excellent actor and he playde this part well. The story was pretty good, as was the pacing of the film. Nice twist to the ending. Giamatti did a good job too. Pretty entertaining magician flick. I'd place it right about on the same tier as The Prestige, which I also thought was pretty good.

Letters From Iwo Jima

A somber and often delicate (even amongst the explosions and carnage) musing on the horrors of war. A terrifying picture of dignity and honor in the face of certain death. I just wish the colors weren't so dialed-down - just like in the film's counter-part Flags of Our Fathers...I find it distancing, but that's probably just me.

Very good film, but not so much of a "good time"

Finally! Laurie Strode got some sense knocked into her! But yeah, now that that is out of the way, I have to say that this film is nothing like the other Halloween movies. If you like the series, give this a go, otherwise, don't bother. It's hit or miss with anyone.
