Hm, a tiny ways into my horror marathon. Knocked off Planet Terror first, since I watched Death Proof on the first of last month - tradition, y'know. Then I double-featured The Stuff and The Blob. The former wasn't very horror-like. Just finished the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and I plan to watch all 7 of those, before moving on to Friday the 13th.

Trucks
Another film about cars gone wild based on a Stephen King story. There wasn't much plot here. An asteroid hits New Mexico and brings nearby trucks to life to terrorize the inhabitants of a small town. Thiink Tremors, but replace the giant worms with evil trucks. It's an alright film, but nothing I'd go around recmomending.

I liked Gridiron Gang, The Rock actually had a couple minutes in there where he was right up there with Bale. So imo he's got alot of talent that he just hasn't tapped into yet. I'm not saying that he's a bad actor, just an ok one that could be alot better.
And of course it was about football, if a movie is about football and isn't totally terrible, chances are I'll like it.

Oh I think the man's got a lot of talent. Much more depth and charisma than the other "action star" Vin Diesel (even though he wasn't bad in Find me Guilty).
I've got some other football movies in line for the weekend, such as Friday Night Lights and Remember the Titans... and I don't even like football.

The Wicker Man (remake )~ wow, did they screw this one up. Didn't have any of the mystery, or any of the feel of the original film. I like the casting of Ellen Burstyn, but alas, the film itself ignored all the details that made the original so interesting. It completely missed the point.

Phantasm. Thought I loved this movie. Realized, after seeing it, that I had confused it with Phantasm 2, which is the one I love. This one? Not so much. Hard to believe this is considered a horror classic. You can see the development of the ideas that would make the sequel really good and fun, but this one is slow, boring, and unscary.

Well, I have heard a lot about Lewis, and how over the top his films are. This was the first one I have seen, and it really wasn't so bad. Or maybe I have just seen too many horror films? :p But for the time, I guess it was pretty graphic, I didn't realize before watching it that it was made in the mid '60s. I was thinking '70s.

Wrong Turn 2: Dead End
This was another very worthy sequel. I'm not sure why they released it straight to DVD because I'm sure this would have done okay in theatres. It's a theatre quality film. The acting is good, including Henry Rollins and Kimberly Caldwell. The gore is abundant and good, the story is pretty cool. The only thing I thought original outshined this one on was the characters actions and reactions. In the first film, I felt like the characters did everything that anyone would have done in their situations. In this film, there were a few points where I was asking myself why they would do that. All in all, this was very good. If you liked WRong Turn, you'll like this.

Mad Monster Party
A Rankin/Bass stop-motion movie with all the classic monsters and Phyllis Diller to boot...what could go wrong?
Everything.
It is without a doubt the worst Rankin/Bass production. Nothing about this movie works. I remember it from my childhood, but hadn't seen it in ages. It's terrible. The pacing is miserably slow, scenes drag on without a point and the voice acting is completely uninspired.
The look is beautiful and the story isn't bad, but everything else fails.

getting into the Halloween mood
Mad Monster Party
A Rankin/Bass stop-motion movie with all the classic monsters and Phyllis Diller to boot...what could go wrong?
Everything.
It is without a doubt the worst Rankin/Bass production. Nothing about this movie works. I remember it from my childhood, but hadn't seen it in ages. It's terrible. The pacing is miserably slow, scenes drag on without a point and the voice acting is completely uninspired.
The look is beautiful and the story isn't bad, but everything else fails.
3/10

.... this movie could have been so much more clever and suspenseful.
Hopkins character could have been so much more devious yet sympathic.
To put it simply-it could have been MORE.
A good director, editor could have had this movie turned into an instant fucking classic. It had good bones, so to speak.

Unfortunately Joe Dante's fun werewolf romp came out the same year as An American Werewolf in London. Rob Bottin's make-up FX are cool, the story ain't bad, the actors do a good job, cameos from Roger Corman and Forrest J Ackerman are nice, but this one falls a little flat. I would place this one rather high on my list of remake candidates.

Disturbia - had actually skipped this one but some positive buzz made me see it. Still dont see what the hue and cry is about...its at best a decent thriller, and nothing more. 06/10
Sanjuro - Awesome. Toshiro Mifune is totally dominant as Sanjuro, and the cinematography and direction of Kurosawa is unmatched. 09/10
We Own The Night - Hard-hitting at plenty of places, and has a strong cast which pulls the movie through. Joaquin Phoenix is a revelation in this one. My recommendation to Rod, Alky, Doc and anyone who's into serious cinema at its finest. 08/10
