Pandorum: Event Horizon Part II? Like Event Horizon, Pandorum has an excellent overall premise, but an exceedingly shitty execution and plot progression. I was really liking the movie until: spoiler: the ridiculous, tribal, mutants who got that way because they "evolved for life on the ship" nonsense. WTF? So living on a downed spaceship means you're superhuman strong, able to get the shit kicked out of you by three people and shrug most of it off, AND your head becomes horribly deformed? Sure. The movie has a great look and overall atmosphere, but it just felt like it could have progressed so much better than it did.
I haven't seen SAW VI, so I didn't read that part of your post. Pandorum I did see and it reminds me of the following franchise:
Dead Space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Space_(video_game)) (video game)
Dead Space: Extraction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Space:_Extraction) (Wii video game prequel)
Dead Space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Space_(comics)) (Comic prequel)

The Road---good movie, but depressing as hell.
also could have used a bit more back story.
Read the book that the movie is based on. I still haven't seen the movie, due to its limited release, but before I even see the movie I will be reading the book.

Le Million (1931)
A thoroughly enjoyable frenzy of pitch-perfect comedy, tightly directed by Rene Clair. Clair was a notable influence on Chaplin, and it is easy to see that here; there is a perfect pinch of pathos sprinkled into all of this wackiness and no matter how far into the abyss these characters fall, we are always wholly connected to them. This is really about as much fun as one can have watching a movie. Every situation, every character antic and every goofy musical number furthers the film's incredible charm. Along with its sense of fun, Clair's film is also of enormous significance for the history of the French cinema; this, one of the first synch-sound pictures the nation produced, stands as one of their proudest landmarks.

A Woman in Berlin (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1035730/) (2009)
http://l.yimg.com/eb/ymv/us/img/hv/photo/movie_pix/strand_releasing/a_woman_in_berlin/awomaninberlin_smallposter.jpg
A devastating tale that captures the aftermath horror of WW2 at the fall of Berlin.
Directed by Max Färberböck & based on the anonymous memoir of the same name--first published in English in 1954, and was republished in 2003, when it became a best-seller--it follows one woman's harrowing survival in Berlin at the close of World War II. At the time, late spring and early summer of 1945, the Soviet Union Red Army has pushed well into the city, heading toward the Reichstag. Berlin is in shambles, its streets bombed out, bodies frequently lying about, and the remaining inhabitants--mostly women and older men--left to fend for themselves. They run from one squat to the next, hide in cellars when tanks come down the street, and, in general, try not to do anything to get killed. As one remarks to another when hiding, "if the Russians treat them the way the Nazi army treated the Russians during its push into Russia, there won't be a German left at the war's end." And in that same desperate time of survival, for the women, that is the Red Army's men, who rape them without any fear of their officers punishing them. As in, when two female friends see each other on the street one day, the question they exchange is, "How often?"
The story centers around Anonyma...a wife of a Nazi officer, she is a former journalist who speaks French and Russian, has lived in Paris and London, and confesses at the movie's opening that she believed in what the German army was fighting for. Anonyma played by the German actress Nina Hoss delivers a masterfully significant performance. A woman faced with the choice of being subjected to rape by whomever, whenever, or giving herself to a high-ranking officer who might protect her, she chooses the latter, latching onto a major who manages to complicate her life even more.
The film doesn't reach a comparatively satisfying conclusion, it's only because it's so precisely focused on this brief moment in time toward a war's end when there are no rules, personal survival is paramount, and nobody is innocent.
This is a film that, for a whole generation, is most definitely not just a movie.

Halloween II (2009) No lack of hate here in other reviews, especially at IMDB. Not sure what the hubbub is cuz i liked it. Maybe it was a bit removed from the original franchise. If that is the main problemo then whatever. i think that Zombie has a style of his own, and a very artsy one at that. His kills are brutal and almost palpable. He seems to drift off into tangential forays of dreamlike psychosis, but that did not seem like filling screen time so much as hinting at the underlying motivations. In fact, i always appreciate a full two hour movie and think that the standard fare 90 minute flick is kinda a jip. The acting was fine, and i thought that there was enough character development to make us care about the main players. The cinematography was incredible. Of course i loved the direction. The story itself was pretty straightforward, but it's all in how it was told. Ashe.

My only real problem with the movie is that the girls were not martyrs. They were victims. So the whole premise of the movie is completely invalid. It's an interesting concept, but inherently flawed. But which would make people want to watch the movie more? Young attractive women getting brutally killed or death-fearing senior citizens choosing to be brutally murdered? To me the movie felt like it was trying to elevate itself past something like Hostel or Saw by having a "deeper meaning," but failed because said "deeper meaning" is just kludged onto a pretty typical torture porn script without any thought of the lack of logic behind it. Pretty good movie, but the script could have used quite a bit of work in my opinion.

After digesting it for what it was i agree. If they really wanted it to be about martyrdom they could has used some of the half hour or so of torture to dwell on it. Kinda seemed like they thought of it mid way throught the movie and just implemented it in. I think it could have been alot better if they actullay went fully with that idea instead of just briefly.

The Three Investigators and the Secret of Terror Castle (2009)
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4020/the3investigators.jpg
Like Germany, Italy, India, Pakistan & many other countries The Three Investigators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Investigators) have also been published in Bangladesh in a remake version by Sheba Prokashoni (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheba_Prokashoni) as Teen Goyenda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teen_Goenda) since the 1980s and became very popular among young Bangladeshi readers. In the Bengali editions, Jupiter Jones is known as Kishor Pasha (an American Bangladeshi). The other two are named as Musa Aman and Robin Milford. Sometimes Gina and Rafian (Gina's pet dog) join them. The chauffeur's name is Hanson. Hitchcock in the American publication is replaced by Davis Christopher, who is also a famous movie director. The character "Skinny Norris" appears as "Shutki Terry" and the famous French thief appears as "Shopa". The character Victor Simon in Bangladeshi edition appears in the place of "Hector Sebastian". The series shaped the way of life of many Bangladeshi juveniles. The main context is on American society, as the writer here probably felt that it would be very difficult to set up the plot in Bangladeshi premises.
Anyway, as a child we were like crazy about the series. There was an 'unspoken or hidden' competition between the friends that who can read a new story first & let the others known that in a great deal of pride.."Oh yeah, I have already read that". :D
Now Florian Baxmeyer, a German filmmaker have made the brave initiative to adopt some initial & the most famous stories into films; as the series was also very popular in Germany. They are known there as the "Die drei ???" (Die drei Fragezeichen, meaning "The Three Question Marks"). As an adventure film for the children it was okay, but lots of great things from the original story are missing here. The exciting headquarters, hidden in the midst of a junk yard, only accessible by several mysterious entrances [Sobuj Fotok Ek (Green Gate One), Dui Surongo (Tunnel Two), Sohoj Tin (Easy Three), "lal kukur char" (red dog Four)] are reduced to a caravan out in the open. Jupiter Jones (Our beloved Kishor Pasha...every one of us used to think himself as Kishor) a brilliant mind, full of sharp remarks and the lead role in the book is barely intelligent and quite dull here. However, I'm still glad for the chance to have watched the books come to life at last. Though there are lots of differences from our favorite series but still it was like a blast from the past and after a long time once again inspiring me to go back on the Pasha Salvage yard & open a new case file with Musa & Robin.:)

War (2007). This flick, whose ultimate attraction was having Jason Statham and Jet Li come to blows, had much potential, but it seems that the Hollywood taint just could not loosen its greasy paws to let it be epic, of which there was potential. Instead we get a better than average dick flick with lots of cool eye candy. i could have done without all of the cultural explanations for all things Japanese, but i guess the American Hollywood public has probably never heard the word Yakuza and probably think it a sushi hangout. That said it was a decent flick with MTV music, pretty good fighting (loved the sword fights), and pretty decent acting overall. Guess i am sadly saying it was only a decent flick that should have been awesome. Ashe.

Warrior (2001). It would be hard not to like a movie shot on location in the desert of India state of Rajasthan and the Himalayas, but this wonderful flick is not all cinematography without any substance. A simple story to be sure, the way in which this tale of redemption is where is strengths lie. With minimal dialogue, our characters instead move this story with action and even subtle facial expressions. Straying away from a Hollywood plot structure, it meanders in a fresh direction in order to find its way home. With subtlety it even ties in some tender idiosyncrasies as beginning comes to end. Of course, the spectacular cinematography was well appreciated on its own accord. Overall a simple and great flick. Ashe.

It was nice. It had most of the stuff I usually look for in a 70s film - action, gang-ups, wonderful pacy script, bordering on (heck, almost!) exploitation to the hilt, effective performances by both Carradines and Barbara herself was decent. Scorcese really showed his potential with this - considering the low budget and extremely short time he had at his disposal to make this film. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but a glimpse at the real genius which was to come. Scorcese fans should definitely check this out.

As Far as my Feet Will Carry Me (2001). An extraordinary tale of courage, perseverance, and the strength of the human spirit. Based on a true story, this tells the tale of a WWII german POW's escape from a Siberian prison and his travels across the expanse of the USSR to get back to his family. The story unfolds with a perfect level of pacing, and the characters that our protagonist runs into are heartfelt, sometimes for the worse. That our hero was a soldier for Nazi Germany does not matter here, for he is portrayed as he should be, as a man that went off to fight for his country and was duly punnished for it. The acting was awesome, and the cinematography even more so. An awesome tale of an epic journey. Ashe.

Run Lola Run (1998).This one is all about decisions and consequences. A fast paced, MTVesque thriller that uses every trick in the book to tell a 20 minute story in about an hour and a half. And it does so with authority. Run Lola Run is a brilliant little gem that continually threatens to run foul yet stays its course. As per the title, there is a whole lot of running involved, but this is handled effectively and does not become tiresome. That Lola is a treat to watch running is pleasant in and of itself. The story itself was simple yet convoluted. The acting was solid. The editing was courageous and the direction was great. Overall a great watch. Ashe.

Okay...I liked this. More than Juno, for sure. Diablo Cody's hyper-pop dialogue is only tolerable in a movie like this, something totally tongue-in-cheek. This was definitely a goofy homage to 70s & 80s gorefests like The Evil Dead and so on, and I really enjoyed it as that. She needs to either keep making movies like this, where everything is exaggerated along with her pop-lingo and quick-witted characters, or drop that schtick entirely.

More than decent. It starts off a tad slow but picks up a lot of steam after the first 20-25 odd minutes. I liked it quite a bit. A lot of campiness, low-brow stuff combined with some nice action sequences and camerawork.
See if you can pick this up. I think you ll like this one.

Been on a bit of a catch-up lately.
The Children - 7/10
Replace the zombies in the zombie formula with virus-stricken kids and you got The Children. Actually pretty good...any movie where kids are killed is aces in my book.
Pandorum - 2/10
Massive let-down on this one from me. I think I expected it to be a different kind of movie than it was (truth be told, I was expecting something more supernatural like Event Horizon). Didn't like that they advertised the movie with the "peeling off the skin" cryo-freeze part as if it was supposed to be something terrifying, and then when you actually watch it it's some downplayed bullshit that is an after effect of being in the cryofreeze. I was expecting something more sinister...I dunno, bio-spill? possession? Anything.
Also Quaid has been phoning in his roles for awhile now..."Bower? You there? Priviate Bower? You Copy Bower????...............................BOWER????". That was basically the extent of his role here. Terrible.
The Thaw - 6/10
Surprisingly entertaining, though not very "good". These Ghosthouse Pictures movies actually aren't too bad from what I have seen.
It's shot pretty clean and it's definitely a formula horror flick, but it's got some decent creepy-crawly and vomit moments. Definitely a good flick to watch if you get freaked out by those bot-flies.
Plague Town - 6/10
English survivalist horror about a family that gets lost out in the country while trying to go for a nice "quality time" vacation with the family. In a very Hills Have Eyes kind of way, they just happened to stop in the worst part ever, near a town full of birth defected mutants that like to steal people in hopes of breeding the genetic defects out of their system. Generally, not a plot I'm too thrilled out...the "makin baybeez" bullshit is old and tired to me. It's not shocking, it's stupid....but happily, they don't really go to the lengths that some of the other movies in the genre go to to get their point across (Hills have eyes 2 (2007) is the biggest example there).
The movie is full of flaws that make it hard to give anything higher than a 6, but I did like it and their were actually some really creepy parts...like this bitch:

Worth seeing once, for sure.

Went to see this incredible tons of fun flick yesterday and despite the lack of cider during the showing I still enjoyed it immensely....Any one who saw the trailer and expected anything different needs a shuriken to the eye...
Typical story - Renegade ninja turns his back on his hard but fair Bonsai Growing family to GO NOMAD...Actually his family aren't really that nice, infact they're a clad of Ninja who have been carrying out covert, secret and untracable assassinations for centuries all over the world..I know, a little hard to swallow since their leave every crime scene littered with severed limbs and torsos peppered with throwing stars....
Well all this is secondary to scenes of Ninjas flipping the fuck out and cutting the heads off everyone while ninja guitar music wails in the background..All the fights consist of random body parts being removed and flopping to the floor as pyjama clad kung fuers spin like dervishes whirling kusari and taking each others eyes out..
As least a 100 million pixals of blood is used in every scene...My only problem is that it should have been in 3D - and that I shoulda brought cider too. It also lacked the Naked Ninjitsu and flaoty spiders of the amazing NINJA the Final Duel....

Opera (1987). i am finally starting to see some love in Dario Argento. Before i was too stuck on the forced acting and plot holes and such. After viewing Opera, his movies are more about style, atmosphere, and that creepy and nomadic camera. It is almost as if the characters might detract the viewer from the real artistic flair were they to shine too much. While the stories themselves are rather chunky, the hidden gems are found in some of the crazy imagination that he mixes into these slasher classics. The kills are definitely classic Dario. Ashe.

Paul Giamatti (played by Paul Giamatti himself) feels burdened by his soul, so he decides to store it temporarily for a time; later, when he tries to get it back but finds it had disappeared! or may be illegally smuggled to Russia!!
It may sound like a similar story from the mind of Kaufman (Being John Malkovich or ESOSM) but it's really a pretty original & interesting premise with fantastic dark humor all over where as usually Giamatti delivered a wonderfully amusing performance. Recommended.

The Ruins (2008). Overall, a fairly solid horror entry. The strength of this flick is in its honesty. It simply tells a horror based story without tricks or winks. Instead, this was a well told, and rather well acted, tale of things gone horribly wrong with nary a chance to get better. Sprinkle in some boobs and some skull-wrenching gore and we have the perfect ingredients for a competent horror flick. There were some beautifully shot scenes was well, making good use of the filming location (which was actually Australia). Definitely worth a watch. Ashe.

The Woodsman (2004). How do you make a great movie starting with difficult subject matter? Apparently, you cast Kevin Bacon. This awkward flick revolves around a recently paroled child molester, enough to ward off the most fanatic of movie goers. That he does a sublime job with his portrayal of a man whose demons are just below the surface is incredible. His character is like that of a remorseful yet stony statue that threatens to go rogue at any second. His was not the only great performance. In fact, the whole cast is wonderful. i think that one of my favs was Mos Def as the intruding cop. The fairytale scene was magnificent in its portrayal. The story here was perfect, the direction solid, and the camera-work effective. The subject matter: icky, and presented with a directionless moral compass. Ashe.

After watching THE LAST WINTER (a decent paranoia isolation horror diected by Larry Fessenden) I checked out Habit (an earlier film by the same director)..
This is a really good low budget indie vamp movie much in the vein (LOL) of Martin or Abel Ferrara Addiction.
It stars Larry Fessenden as a New Yawk hipster who falls foul to a cutie dykie vampire..
Great locations, script and characters let down only by the less than strong acting abilities of the secondary cast. Fessenden himself is excellent in the lead role...
The film isn't limited by its obvious low budget but those expecting a typical vampire film will be soley dissapointed..
It is also suprisingly Wendigo free!!

Nothing better than to spend a chilly Sunday afternoon with one of Leone's best. The wonderful soundtrack by Ennio Morricone, powerful rib-tickling performances by both Fonda and Terence Hill (surprisingly!), and some breathtaking cinematography ever seen in a western, lensed by the superb eye of Ruzzolini. It's one of the best westerns ever made, and it combines the classic western setting with a story which has a nice deviation of the genre.
Highly recommended to Alky, Return, Dante, Fort, NE, Newb, Derek, Rod and everyone else who is a big fan of Leone's Eastwood trilogy. Don't miss this.

Wow! Another pretty good entry for the genre from last year. Yes..there was also a killer who comes with some nice deadly traps and the whole package comes from the makers of Saw 4, 5 & 6 but still it has a legitimate amount of originality that I think can satisfy the genre fans.
And of course there are some flaws (for example how'd & when the killer managed time to set up all these traps inside the house?), but that doesn’t threat the overall entertainment going on in that dark & claustrophobic situation. Decent direction fairly copes with the good tuned soundtrack that intensifies the scares also.

So the movie starts just as the original: In the hospital right after IT happened. Laurie's alone and stumbling around with a broken leg... And of course Michael Myers shows up...
Those first 15 minutes or so are absolutely brilliant - Horrifying, gripping - great suspense and fantastic gore. An absolute boon for slasher fans...
...
But then the rest of the movie happens. I found Zombie's "examination" into Michael's psyche to be unnecessary and silly and just an excuse to put his wife on screen again. I thought that her role and purpose were laughable and took away from the sheer HORROR that should be this film. His evolution of Loomis to be an egomaniacle famehound was interesting, but too much of a deviation from the Loomis that I know and love.
Too boring. Not enough suspense. Not enough gore. Unnecessary imagery into Michael. All-in-all an unnecessary film. It's a shame; those first 15 minutes almost convinced me that this movie was going to be incredible. Sigh. Just stick to the blood and guts, Rob.

Another odd surprise. After seeing the previews for this film, I was definitely uncertain about it. It looked like a self-indulgent 2001 wannabe that was going to try to capture faux-philosophy...
At first I thought I was going to be right; the movie starts slow and deliberately and I was concerned especially about Kevin Spacey's robot GERDY just seemed like a watered-down HAL... But Moon pleasantly surprised me. It turned out to be more of a character piece than pseudo-philosophy... And Sam Rockwell is absolutely brilliant.
Highly recommended, especially for scifi fans.

Kilshot (2008). This thriller had potential that never fully materialized. Mickey Rourke and Joseph Gorden-Levitt's performances were pretty darn good. Overall the acting was fine, but the story itself was sorta thin. The camera work was enjoyable as well. The true story of Alexander Pearce, Australia's most notorious convict. In 1882, several convicts escaped custody to brave the harsh conditions of Van Diemen's Land in Tasmania. Pearce and seven others were faced with the cruel wilderness of the landscape and limited resources. As days passes with hunger, the others had no choice but to slaughter their fellow man and then devour them so they would be able to continue on and not starve to death. Much of the tension throughout the film is derived from each man knowing that he is at risk of being the next person to be killed.
Kinda slow paced but pretty dark & grim also. A well made film with some nice cinematography.

Sublime (2007). You will either love or hate this one. i loved it. A slow burner to be sure, the way the movie unfolds overuses a classic storytelling technique brilliantly. The atmosphere was cryptic and creepy. Nurse Zoe was smokin' hot. i think that all movies should have a nurse Zoe... The story itself was nothing new, but it had a style all its own, which coupled with the wonderful camera-work and great audio made for a great watch. The acting and direction were all solid. Gore fans will get at least a touch of heaven towards the end, but will likely want more. This was almost America's version of the ever-so-creepy Japanese flick Infection, and in a good way. An idiotic mess of a film. For the most part its all over the place and there are plenty of slow points. It's hammed up and over the top but not always in an entertaining way. I guess it's kinda fun and if you appreciate Campbell's off the wall sense of humor it has its moments, but for the most part its neither here nor there. You feel like all the actors involved are working to there own agenda. Worth watching if you're a fan, but not worth going out of your way to see. It's slapstick B-movie fun that has its moments, but its also fairly tedious and laboured for the most part.

Mon Oncle (1958)
Rediculously funny. This is the warm center of Tati's life work, the crossroads between the silly human comedies that came before it and the complex commentaries on modernity that came after; wonderfully, this film takes a little from both recipes and the result is a perfect concoction which is always entertaining but also thought-provoking. Some of the finest Tati moments are contained within this movie, including several choice scenes involving bored kids, a fish fountain, modern kitchens and garage doors. Tati's immortal character, M. Hulot, is so easy to laught at, but also to connect with. His blundering misadventures are totally hysterical, but there is something to be said about the plausible and tragic possibility of being left behind by an always-evolving world.
The House of the Devil (2009)
"They don't write 'em like that anymore". Ti West gets it; and, thanks to his passion for horror, his understanding of the intracacies that make it work, and an extremely creative directorial vision, he has helmed the most exquisite horror film of the last decade, at the very least. This is high art, the kind of slow-burn, character driven terror story that simply isn't told today, thanks to a supply and demand process fueled by a mass with no patience and no desire to experience real suspense. Though on its surface the film might start off looking like an homage, or a simple throwback to the genre, West quickly reassures us that he isn't just playing games. While he does nod to the nostalgic pleasures of horror generations past (an incredibly fun and effective score by Jeff Grace, eye-popping gritty cinematography by Eliot Rockett), this is a serious and effective story on its own. I cannot say enough good things about this movie, and I cannot express the importance I feel that filmmakers and films like these have amongst a world of trash.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v623/Chronogrl/avatar-movie-poster.jpg
And, wow. Seriously, wow. As cliche as it sounds, it's not "just" your average action movie, it's an experience. I'm really glad that I went to see it in IMAX. The world is vivid, the characters are real, the beasties are fantastic, and the action is straight-out jaw-dropping at some points. I even got myself carried away with the love story and war struggle and found myself getting teary-eyed... And I loved it. Not only was this movie fun, but it actually made me FEEL something.
A lot of critics go after its substance and story. Sure, it's cliched. Sure, it's a little Fern Gully. That's the kind of stuff that I usually cling on to when criticizing movies like this, but in this case, Avatar was so incredibly stunning and engrossing that I absolutely did not care. I thoroughly enjoyed myself start to finish. The best time I've had at the movies probably since My Bloody Valentine 3D (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1179891/) (hey, say what you will about the connotations of that statement; that movie was a damn blast). And I want to go and see it again.
I highly recommend that you go and see this in the movies. It's fun, stunning, and a damn good action flick. I actually thought that the political statement was daring, and not too heavy-handed (hell, it was REFRESHING to see). Not to mention there's a LOT to geekasm about; the "science," the monsters, the animation... So I think there's enough in there for anyone. ONLY downside: I thought that it was a little long and could have used some editing. But that's ok; there was more than enough to keep me entertained from start to finish.
4/5.

Pandorum (2009). A solid sci-fi entry for sure, Pandorum delivers everything that it is promised. Though it was no Aliens, this flick was a fast paced space thriller. The acting was solid, the direction what it should be. The effects were a little rugged, unless they were meant to appear shaky. This was also a decent study on the degeneration of the human animal when left to its own devices for survival. Antje Traue was neat to look at as well, always a plus in this carnal mind. Overall, for a sci-fi genre flick, this one deserves to be up there with the usual suspects. Mercie beaucoup.

One of the funniest black comedies of recent years. Brilliant peformance from Nicholson, plenty of touching scenes, but its the laughs where I find it really delivers, to be honest. So many quality comedic scenes and every letter to his adopted kid is superb. Would've prefered it to be darker though if anything. Found the ending a little too sentimental, would've liked to see them really crank it up at the end. Quality film.

Jane (Pamela Franklin) and Cathy (Michele Dotrice) are British nurses on a cycling holiday in rural France. They had a disagreement and Jane splits, while Cathy stays behind. When Jane returns a few minutes later to the spot where she left her friend, she discovers that Cathy has been mysteriously vanished. As if that weren't distressing enough, she learns from the local people that the site where her friend disappeared from is the same place where a lady tourist was found murdered a few years before!
A very well crafted atmospheric British suspense thriller. Excellent camera works & nice background scores made it thoroughly captivating. As Jane doesn't speak/understand French well & there was no subtitles, so we can feel a sense of her confusion and mounting fear while the local people were talking suspiciously. It worked pretty well to develop the tension. Moreover, saw it on a B/W format...which added a cult tone overall.

"Kingdom of the spiders" 7/10
First half was quite slow, but the last half more than made up for it.
I really admired the guts of all the actors/actresses invovled, coz.... yuck!!
Some funny things i noticed:
Not once in the movie did any of the characters concider to squash the spiders with their boots??
The scene where the little girl stands in a bed crawling with spiders. William Shatner comes rushing in telling her to jump in his arms, and as soon as she does so he immediately throws her on the floor amongst even more spiders. LOL. What the hell were the director thinking? :p
All in all a very good watch.
Looooved the very ending.

Yeah I meant Aronofsky. I only saw RfaD once a few years ago and I remember not being very impressed by it, but that was probably because everyone had been nagging me to go see it so I was expecting the second coming of Christ or something rather than just a good movie. I need to re-watch it, I think.
Haven't seen Pi but the friend who tipped me off on The Fountain loved Pi. What didn't you like about it? (without spoiling, please :p)

I loved Pi it's a great paraniod moder noir flick. I liked Requim for a Deream when it came out but have grown to hate it. I just don't buy any of the characters as junkies.
The Wrestler is one of my favorite films period. Haven't watched The Fountain.

Maybe that was my problem too with RfaD; the characters were so, well... out of character. Their addiction wasn't believable. But watch The Fountain! Everyone needs to watch The Fountain! If nothing else it's a visual masterpiece.
Meanwhile, I'll try and look into Pi. ^^

The House of the Devil (2009)
Finally got around to seeing this, and yes. We can only hope for more modern horror like this, not afraid to skip the cheap, easy scares/thrills in favor of brooding, creeping anxiety and atmosphere. I've heard a lot about it being slow-paced, but I thought that was one of its strengths. Plus a pretty authentic 80s aesthetic was fun to watch.

My theory on the characters in the movie is that they are all dead, and are fighting something that they believe to be evil, if you notice the vehicles are always old, so you could say they are more or less stuck in the time period they all died in.

The Quick and the Dead (1995). Great stuff for Rami fans and for those that appreciate fun and stylistic direction. Pretty thin plot so for those looking for a profound story and as such will likely be disappointed. i liked it though. Lots of soon to be stars here, with veterans like Gene Hackman killing their parts. He always makes for a wonderfully hateable villain. Mercie beaucoup.

There's a lot of Megan Fox haters out there, but you can't blame her for this turd--she performed exactly how her character was written. Note to Diablo Cody: Trying to dress up a poor script with trendy pop snark doesn't look clever, it looks pathetic.

Karas: The Prophecy
This was a really neat anime movie. Unfortunately it sufferes from some pacing issues and was so slow in a few parts. The animation style was really awesome though and made up for any issues I found. I don't quite know how to explain it. In scenes where particularly higtech things were happening, or the Karas were featured, it seemed like stuff was jumping out of the screen. I did some reading and they used 2d and 3d together. 2D frames within a 3d animation. It's something I've never seen before and blew my mind. The English dub (though not usually my preferance) was well done.
I suggest this for anime fans, or fans of any animation at all.

Went and saw "The Wolfman" this past weekend. Really disappointing - the trailers made it look like it was going to be amazing, but the final product was boring and wooden. A shame too - it would have been nice to see a classic Universal Monster return. I don't have any problem with remakes - I'm still really excited to see the new remake of Romero's "The Crazies" when it opens next Friday - but Wolfman let me down.

Aliens- Was on TV, missed the first 1/2 hour or so but still had to watch it when I saw it was on. Now I am wishing I'd just stuck my DVD of it on and watched it from the start. Even though I've seen it many time before this will be bugging me until I watch it from the start again now... Hate it when I do that.

I think I've seen this, I don't remember, because I watch so many movies. May have to track down a copy again so I can see if I saw it. Have you seen the sequel yet? "Karas: The Revelation".

I finally saw "Fritz the Cat" (1972), now to watch "The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat" (1974).
