This one begins in Niagara Falls and New York City with a lone young foreign guy stalking random individuals, waiting for the right moments, before blowing poison darts at them through a straw, killing them instantly, only to end up getting run over and killed by a truck when attempting to escape the police on foot on the streets of New York City. The guy turns out to be from a would be cult who believes to be finding salvation by returning to nature out in the heart of a Far Eastern jungle under a man named Jonas, who previously fled NYC when wanted on different counts of different charges. It also turns a lady's missing sister is now a part of that cult, and went to the jungle with them. The lady travels to that part of the country, meets up with a trained fighter and survivalist as they attempt to find her sister and where this cult, and especially Jonas, currently are. This one really goes all out with the old school done right artsy and gory extreme classic horror. It has a graphic scene of a large and long anaconda catching and devouring a wild monkey, another graphic scene of another anaconda catching and devouring another not so large snake, and a canoe with people being attacked by large alligators. That last one had three survivors, only because one had a gun, using most of his bullets to shoot and kill of the alligators, but they then had to fight off and outrun different groups of different cannibals in order to avoid getting killed after that. There are also plenty of graphic scenes with the cannibals catching other people before cutting off body parts, then eating the raw body parts while sucking the fresh blood at the same time. This one is definitely a lot more extreme than the average horror film, and is not for the faint of heart. It is overall well done with everything looking real, well developed characters, good plot, and story line. There is also good drama and dialogue, developing most of the main characters, along with plenty of great scenery and good background. Those into Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Mario Bava, Roman Polanski, and the like would most likely enjoy the cult classics from this director like this one, "Eyeball," and "The Rat, The Fist, and The Cynic." ::danger::

What'd you think of Nightmare on Elm Street 2? It's kind of an outlier, not written by Craven, none of the original characters, besides Kruger.
It holds a special place with me because it was the first NOES movie I watched as a kid. I think of it as good cheesy fun & nothing more. The pool scene is stupid. I like it more than 4 & 5 though tbh. My favorites would be 1 & 3.

Alice, Sweet Alice aka Communion or Holy Terror (1976), directed by Alfred Sole.
I watched this yesterday and while I know I've commented on it before, think it's good enough to pass on more love. I think for the low budget He had, Director Sole does a first rate job here and feel this is one creepy film and certainly a damning view on organized religion. Some truly shocking scenes and some truly odd characters, particularly the annoying Aunt and especially MR Alphonso! Got more appreciation while listening to the commentary and while searching the web, found more interesting trivia, such as Linda Miller (The Mom) was the daughter of Jackie Gleason and married to Jason Miller (THE EXORCIST) and Jason Patric (THE LOST BOYS) is their son. Paula Shepard, creepy as the possibly psychotic 12 year old was actually in college when she made this. Mr Alphonso in real life was a bouncer in a Gay Bar and used to hang around cemeteries dressed as a priest and after consoling a visitor, would accept a "Donation for the Church"::shocked:: and while it has nothing really to do with the film, the red haired Policewoman was the chatty waitress in FRIDAY, THE 13th. ****

Good stuff indeed. With a creepy atmosphere, not in the least due to the score. Definetily worth a rewatch.

DRACULA AD 1972 (1972). An awful title (had heard DRACULA TODAY had been considered, which works better), DAD doesn't seem to get much love at all, moving from the Gothic milieu to noisy modern day life and there's a lot of conjecture that not having the Count interact in less inhibited/conformist times is a missed opportunity...perhaps.
I do know I really liked this back in Junior High when I saw it...Chris AND Peter together in a Dracula since in forever, Dracula has some good lines, a kick ass opening sequence, some decent blood and two of the smokinnest actresses at the time; Caroline Munro and Stephanie Beacham::love::. Sure it was unintentional, but it appears that three of the men in the film are copping a cheap feel from SB (her Boyfriend trying to subdue her in the Cavern Club, Peter putting the Cross on her in the Church and Chris taking it off) or maybe it's just the goofy pre teen in Me::embarrassment::::embarrassment::
While it still can't compare to the earlier triumphs, I enjoyed this quite a bit and remembered a Skywald magazine (PSYCHO-??) that had movie reviews and declared there there was no great anything in the film, but "...it's just ENTERTAINING. And in a world full of phony Boring movies, it makes for a delightful change of pace." ***

I've seen this film twice and I like it because of its gruesome mystery elements and stylish camerawork. Adding something to the trivia you provided, I've heard that Alfred Sole began his career doing adult films, such as Deep Sleep (1972) which actually isn't unusual as some other well-known horror makers also started that way (e.g. Wes Craven)... but this production was a reason why Sole was excommunicated from the Catholic Church and this event was kinda influential to creation of Alice, Sweet Alice. Not saying it was a revenge but makes sense why Sole wanted this to be entitled Communion.
I was really surprised when I found out that Paula Sheppard was 18-19 years old during the shoot because on the screen she looks like a child. However, the most grotesque character is Alphonso DeNoble (you mentioned him) who also appeared in two other low-budget horrors, Blood Sucking Freaks (1976) and Night of the Zombies (1981).

Galaxy of Terror -
https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BNTE0MjkzMWItYTI3ZS00ZGRiLTllOTktMGMyNzlkMjRmZW ZmXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNTAyODkwOQ@@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,67 9,1000_AL_.jpg
I finally watched Galaxy of Terror. I didn't know what to expect of the movie. I just knew James Cameron worked on it in his early days. I actually thought one of the characters in the movie was named Cameron until I checked wiki and his name is Cabren. Perhaps it was just late because many times I thought they were saying Cameron.
Anyway, there are many other notable actors that I didn't expect in the movie too. Some horror fans will recognize. I think I heard mixed feelings about Galaxy of Terror. But also that the movie influenced Aliens. And it does look like Aliens at times with the corridors and some of the shots. There are some fantastic paintings in the movie including a shot inside a pyramid that reminded me of Forbidden Planet. Even some of the events are similar to Aliens. The opening also reminded me a bit of Night of the Creeps. But what surprised me the most about the movie was that it wasn't that bad. It's not the best and far from Aliens. However, most of all I thought the movie felt like a live action version of a comic story that you might come across in Heavy Metal magazine. One of those really out there space stories with explorers going to unknown planets, having all kinds of problems arise, lots of violence, scenes that you would think would only be in a comic, and an ending that you would look forward to a conclusion in the next issue.
That poster image should tell you the kind of movie you will receive. But the poster is like a producer just told an artist to draw a scene without seeing the movie as the imagery is wrong. I bet Rockin Jelly Bean could come up with a really wild poster for Galaxy of Terror. This Friday the 13th homage is tame,
https://conents-jp.multilingualcart.com/ori/50795/goods_img/goods_320_1.jpg
compared to many of their posters here.
https://expressobeans.com/public/search.php?artist=2947
But I found this poster as well. Which is probably way too good for the quality of the movie. Galaxy of Terror calls for a dark and wild poster hinting at the craziness you'll see on screen.
https://static.wixstatic.com/media/b86336_fb8c93e04f3f464e8d2f32495a0eff37~mv2_d_3100 _4800_s_4_2.jpg/v1/fill/w_500,h_750,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01/b86336_fb8c93e04f3f464e8d2f32495a0eff37~mv2_d_3100 _4800_s_4_2.jpg
But from this poster I did finally find a good alternate Nightmare on Elm Street poster with some of the main characters.
https://static.wixstatic.com/media/b86336_ad765c6358294a018c721b6da5f214e8~mv2_d_2612 _4102_s_4_2.jpg/v1/fill/w_500,h_750,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01/b86336_ad765c6358294a018c721b6da5f214e8~mv2_d_2612 _4102_s_4_2.jpg
Both of these posters have color variants. I know I'm getting one of these Nightmare on Elm Street posters. There is room for improvement such as maybe a few more characters and some notable scenes. But overall the feel of the poster with the characters is what I'm looking for.
Back to Galaxy of Terror, there are elements of a really good movie in here. I love the Captain of the ship. She's hilarious. She has a line early on that cracked me up and I would probably use the bathroom on myself if a pilot behaved like that to me in that scene. There is also a great line the Commander says to the pretty blonde lady. Sadly if an older guy said that to a woman today it might be seen as unwanted sexual advances or some other nonsense.
If you like violent deaths you'll be pleased with this movie. It doesn't let up on any of the crew. And that first poster image is a tease to what's in the movie. Apparently it's not just trees that can act crazy in horror movies.
I do think that looking at the movie, you can definitely see the talent behind the production. I saw James Cameron's name as a 2nd director as well. I would bet that a remake with a female hero would be a lot better. Also cleaning up the story a bit too. Although I did notice some things on a second watch & listen. But in the end the movie's conclusion didn't do much for me. And I enjoy about the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the movie the most. But I would take a modern sequel.

While watching Galaxy of Terror (1981), my first thought was "ALIEN". The movie was produced by Roger Corman and it was also his second film on which James Cameron worked as a crewman. Cameron's film techniques were quite innovative at that time, I guess.

Surely, Alien (1979), directed by Ridley Scott, was an inspiration for Galaxy of Terror. It's quite noticeable. James Cameron later directed the sequel of Alien, Aliens (1986) which looks like Galaxy of Terror in some ways - as you said.
The movie is old-school and bizarre. I especially remember one scene - something 'maggot-like' raping a woman. It was gross, weird and somewhat surreal. I don't know why I have that particular scene in mind, perhaps because of all its oddity...

It's a graphic S-F flick. I also had the feeling as if I was watching a real version of a comic book. The whole movie definitely has something cartoon about it.

EVIL UNDER THE SUN (1982). Great location shots (Majorca Spain), interiors and an incredible cast get buried under what is essentially a remake of the far superior DEATH ON THE NILE (1978), right down to very similar lines and situations.Campy, but not in a good way. **

That maggot worm thing is down right crazy. I now think it's way worse than the scene in Evil Dead. Both the original and remake. Because I'm reading on wiki even though there is a source notation, that the worm scene was supposed to be even more blatant.
Galaxy of Terror has a good premise about your fears being manifest on this planet or near that pyramid. I read that Alien was influenced by Heavy Metal or the French version as well. I bet a directors like Ridley Scott or George Lucas just wanted to make better versions of those stories. I think George Lucas said something like he wanted to make a better B movie. Some times it works and some times it doesn't.

FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL (1974). >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The last in the series, this Hammer film isn't bad, but quite erratic. Peter Cushing is excellent as always-love the athleticism he shows when trying calm the Monster in one scene- but Shane Briant comes off as more smug than anything else and he really drags the film down, as far as I'm concerned. Madeline Smith affecting, but not much to do for most of the film.
A lot more gore here as well and a sub plot where Frankenstein wants to expand the experiment by having the Monster rape Angel truly borders on tastelessness-due to films getting more violent during that time, perhaps Hammer had to up the ante.
I do feel Dave Prowse is great as the monster...truly repellant yet extremely sympathetic....how You will feel for him when he is weeping. Great makeup on him, even if the body is right out of Ron Jeremy. ***

Yes! That one is very weird, but also very original and interesting! If you like those old school done right(not as much as in cheesy) artsy and gory horror films from the 1970s like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "The Hills Have Eyes," and the like, you should definitely find that one worth a look as well. Another great one of that kind is "Motel Hell." ::EEK!::

One thing that struck me was how nonchalant these "soldiers" (or whatever they were) sounded. When you are used to Schwarzenegger and "get to the chopper!" and such, they really sound like "oh yeah, we'll kill the bad guys. No biggie, that's just how we roll".

SLEUTH (1972). A long time favorite since seeing it in the theaters in the 70's, my wife and I literally watched the VHS until it broke. Michael Caine is seeing Laurence Olivier's wife and the two men meet to be broker an agreement that will benefit them both-Larry rid of the wife and Michael with some extra cash-that quickly turns into something altogether different. Very involved with some hammy acting (especially from Olivier), but fantastic dialogue and enough twists and turns to keep You staying to the end.
Frustrated that there was no DVD release (finally got a good copy from Amazon two years ago), decided to check out the remake with Michael (in the Olivier role), Jude Law and directed by Kenneth Branagh. Horrified and disgusted at how awful the 2004 version is in comparison and pissed that the garbage was so available while the diamond wasn't. ****1/2

Speaking of "premise about your fears being manifest on this planet or near that pyramid", that sounds like Event Horizon and Sphere.
Actually, if you're kinda into films that appears to have influenced Alien, or those type of films in general, check out Planet of the Vampires (1965), directed by Mario Bava. You'll want to pay close attention to the dialogue.
The English dub version, which I suspect is what's most available, has voices you've heard in the Speed Racer cartoons.

Klute (1971)
7/10
Klute (Donald Sutherland), a private detective, is hired by a company exec to find a missing company man. This leads Klute to Bree Daniels (Jane Fonda), a freelance call girl, who is seeing a shrink due to inner emptiness. As Klute closes in on answers, people start dying and finds things are not as they appear.
The film is technically a noir (or neo-noir) thriller, but there really isn't a lot of suspense. Although it explores the odd and darker mindsets of the prostitute and the john, the film is more about the relationship between Fonda and Sutherland. Bree's insightfully written insecurities are evocatively performed by Fonda during three visits to her psychiatrist.

THE WICKER MAN (1972)>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
Know I've written about this before, but it's been awhile since I've seen it. Edward Woodward plays a Christian (this is important to the plot) Policeman who goes to an island to investigate the disappearance of a child. He is appalled at the (polite) lack of help from the locals and even more so by all the sexual activity going on, even if He almost succumbs to the advances of gorgeous Britt Eklund. He continues the investigation, even meeting with the island leader (Christopher Lee is great here) before realizing that a sacrifice is going to occur and He should try to stop it.
This is rightfully well regarded and Edward is very good here, even though his Sgt Howie is a pompous humorless bullying asshole, threatening people with imprisonment, mocking other people's faith, searching homes without a warrant, breaking and entering and even battery! But, He really doesn't deserve the genuinely frightening end He comes to and I was left wondering if his prophecy would come true.
Try to find the extended version-I had it on VHS, but only find the 88 minute version on DVD. ****

Critters (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090887/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) - A great load of cornball fun. Those moments when over the top stuff is done well.
Time for a quick poll: who's meaner: Critters or Gremlins?
Cold Eyes Of Fear (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067511/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) - An okay thriller from the early seventies. Is it me or do more seventies flicks give off this same particuliar vibe as far as color and sets are concerned, giving them a certain charm?

it's Alive
this classic Larry Cohen film ...well...
I remember when it ws one of those classic horrors everyone talked about.
1974 - that raw look I normally like, but I would it really hard to watch this time.
There's always something to be said about being the first of it's kind .. but years later it's not enough to be entertaining anymore. Godawful movie ...just silly and boring. Cohen would eventually make one of my favourite horror flicks: Q, but It's Alive isn't even remotely likeable on any level for me.
Gargoyles
This is an old made for TV horror - made in a time where a lot of TV horrors were pretty cool .. but this one is awful. rubber monsters running around the desert .. god I don't even know where to begin with this one..the premise, the writing, the 'action' ... it's like a study in ineptness. Again - silly and boring.
so I was 2 for 2 yesterday ... proving to myself that despite the 70's being my favourite time period for all genres of film ... there were still plenty of turds to navigate around.
a lot of people still love this crap because they saw it at an impressionable age (as did I) but I grew up and am able to distinguish between nostalgic childhood impressions - and quality filmmaking.

2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984)
7/10
Amid high military tensions between the US and the Soviet Union, Dr. Heywood Floyd (Roy Scheider), former head of the National Council for Astronautics becomes part of a joint US/Soviet spaceflight to Jupiter to investigate a monolith and determine what happened aboard derelict spacecraft Discovery, the ship's sentient computer HAL 9000 and missing astronaut buddy, Dave.
The film is based on Arthur C. Clarke's sequel novel, '2010: Odyssey Two'. 'Year We Make Contact' is interesting, nicely shot and orchestrated, and mildly entertaining, but not particularly bold. Scheider is engaging, but this sci-fi flies with very little character development. It's certainly not as esoteric and symbolic as Stanley Kubrick's film version of Clarke's first novel. Still, the film wraps up the two films pleasantly without any unintended ambiguity.

THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP (1982).>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This comedy is full of unconventional types and some good laughs occurring from all the odd situations. Robin Williams gives a sensitive performance, Glenn Close comes out swinging in her debut and John Lithgow is fantastic as the Transsexual Football player; for Me, he is the main reason to check out TWATG. And love how an Alice Cooper Group song was added to the soundtrack instead of "School's Out" (the stomping "Long Way to Go" when Robin is driving the Babysitter home).
As said good things, but also some pointless scenes added that only add time, such as the plane crash into the house, the speeding driver shown several times and just found the ending to be too abrupt. Was Pooh harboring a childhood grudge or still pissed at Garp crashing the funeral?
Also, Glenn seems almost proud of how Garp was conceived, never minding that she raped the soldier and while she seems disapproving of porn or young lust, she is almost eager to "purchase" the prostitute for Garp. And , while I can understand Garp's hurt over his wife's adultery, it's implied very strongly that He indulged in the Decadence Dance with the Babysitter before said adultery began-Payback is a bitch. ***

It's a weird but entertaining film with some heart. Part of the entertainment is the weirdness, certainly edgy. It's been a thousand years since I've seen it, but I remember those incongruities you mention. Imperfect people don't always make for a worthwhile story. I think the thing I took from this film is -- and this is a line from the film -- 'life is an adventure'.

Saw 2010 probably in the mid 90's. Thought it was OK, but nearly as good as 2001.
DEATH WEEKEND (1976) AKA HOUSE BY THE LAKE. Brenda Vacarro is driving with a new boyfriend (who turns out to be a total douche) to his country home with a group of local rowdies start to harass them. She is able to turn the tables on them, not setting well and said rowdies find the house and the nightmare begins.
Pretty nasty Home invasion/Rape/Revenge film has elements of STRAW DOGS and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, with some I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE foreshadowing. The invaders (led by Don Stroud who's pretty good) are about as vile as You could imagine and once Brenda begins delivering payback, it gets quite suspenseful. Not great and certainly not flattering (pretty much all the characters here are either brutish or stupid), but worth a look.
Interestingly, found out on IMDB that after all this onscreen turmoil, Brenda and Don dated for a few years::shocked::! **1/2

I just looked back at this one from the original series that Wes Craven directed, and it is even more amazing than I remembered it, in my opinion. It begins with the surviving boy seeing a shrink about his racing team traveling through the deserts to get across the country to compete in the races on the other side for the first time he will have been out that way since most of his family was killed by the cannibalistic family out that way. The shrink reminds him of how he saw that cannibal family get killed, and how they are no longer out there, plus if they stick with the main roads, they should be all right. It also turns out the girl who was originally with that cannibal family before she killed off the father with a rattlesnake is now with his racing team, and the big dog, Beast, also returns to take the trip across country. On the way across country, somebody discovers a short cut on the map to get to those races a lot quicker, which turns out to be on the same back roads from the first movie, then their bus breaks down out near the same area where the incidents in the first movie occurred. There turns out to be some overall clever and slick traps set by Pluto and his brother, who turn out to be still alive, along with a lot of well done blood and gore make up and props. The stunt work and staged combat is also well done overall. There is also plenty of humorous and catchy dialogue keeping the film entertaining, along with holding interest all the way through. Pluto also gets even better developed in this sequel than he was in the original film. Those who enjoyed the first film, along with the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and the like should enjoy this sequel as well. ::devil::

CHATO'S LAND (1972). Charles Bronson stars in this Michael Winner western (First time the two worked together, I believe) as a Native American forced to shoot an harassing Sheriff in self defense then being tracked by a Lynch mob, consisting of bitter ex-Civil War vets and foul tempered locals. In fact, it's almost a small mob after one guy. Very much in the Peckinpah western mode with violent very asocial characters that help their demise almost as CB does. ***

I just looked back at this one, and it is also more amazing than I remember it. Jack Deth really had his work cut out for him, and he might very well have met his match several times if it weren't for his great help showing up at the right time to save him. His at the time new ally, Shark, is even more bad- ass than I remembered him, and really handled the store robbers and the trancers like a boss. The corrupt scientist who made his own army of trancers with his serrum is really something else, and his trancers were a lot more powerful and unpredictable than most of the others. The action, fx, and staged combat is also amazing with its picture quality not looking like just a B-movie at all. Fans of the Trancers and Dollman franchises should love this one for sure. ::cool::

This Brian DePalma film has SO MANY things going for it...a wonderful score by Pino Donaggio, impressive camera work (especially the Museum scene), many actors I like such as Michael Caine, Nancy Allen, Keith Gordon (became a director in later years, especially for DEXTER), Dennis Franz (hard to believe He was ever that trim or had so much hair) and Angie Dickinson, who is way sexy in here, Body Double or no.
The big problem is there are SO MANY references to PSYCHO...an unhappy Woman taking a desperate and foolish step for happiness, a battle of wills between Men and Women, if You will, Showers playing significant part in the story, an abrasive Authority figure, Amateur detecting (although Nancy and Keith are Einstein compared to Vera Miles and John Gavin) and a tidy wrap-up at the end to explain the why's. Also, the spilt screen was outdated by SISTERS (1973), so why use it again?
Despite my quibbles, DTK is a good film, but You will probably like it more if You haven't seen PSYCHO. ***

I liked Dressed to Kill a lot. I think it had some pretty scary scenes. Thinking particularly where the lightening flashes revealing the killer behind. Can't remember now if that was a window shot? I think it was in the psychiatrist's office? ::big grin:: The first time I saw it, I was so young, I didn't think it was silly. From what I've read, the only real Angie is when she gets up from the bed after her tryst, the shower was a PENTHOUSE model and if You look closely in the long shots of the shower door, You can see it's not Angie. She had shown all in BIG BAD MAMA, about 5-6 years before DTK, but maybe she didn't want to do it for DePalma. Have read she was annoyed at him for "Spilling the Beans" as it were.
JACKSON COUNTY JAIL (1976). After problems at her Hollywood job and catching her Tom catting husband (Howard Hesseman::shocked::!), Yvette Mimiuex decides to start fresh in New York City. Sadly, instead of flying, she decides to drive cross country and once she gets into a Southern state (naturally), is when the trouble starts.
Yvette is pretty good here, especially in the pivotal jail scene where she really is fighting back and some nice appearances by Robert Carradine and Mary Woronov. Also, close to 20 years before winning an Oscar for pursuing THE FUGITIVE, Tommy Lee Jones is a fugitive! ***

VAMPIRA (1973) AKA OLD DRACULA>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
Have heard how bad this is for years, but actually found this quite enjoyable albeit silly and also noticed that 1979's LOVE AT FIRST BITE has a lot of the same plot twists. Dracula (played by a slumming David Niven) has fallen on hard times financially and has to give tours in his castle. A group of PLAYBOY models visits and Drac hopes some blood from them can revive his long dead wife. It does indeed, but one of the models is black and as a result, Vampira comes back as lovely Teresa Graves (from LAUGH-IN and GET CHRISTIE LOVE!). Can the Count return her to her normal appearance?
Am sure a lot of people would see racism in that, but to Me, it seems like Drac just wants the appearance he's accustomed to, similar to LAFB when George Hamilton is disappointed in how the woman who looks like his former love is a total party animal.
Aside from Teresa, many lovelies like Linda Hayden (TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA, MADHOUSE), Veronica Carlson (DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED, one of her last roles), Jennie Linden (Hammer's NIGHTMARE), Andrea Allan and Catherine Shirriff . Captures the flavor of early 70's London and even includes a trip to a PLAYBOY club with photos of past Playmates Janice Pennington (1971, later on THE PRICE IS RIGHT) and Marilyn Cole. ***

BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS (1980). This STAR WARS/THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN hybrid is quite goofy with a lot of scenes that You probably saw in SW/STAR TREK (and some parts had Me convinced the creators of RED DWARF liked this), but is a lot of fun. Villanous John Saxon (NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, ENTER THE DRAGON) threatens to destroy a peaceful planet, so a young lad (Richard Thomas from THE WALTON'S::shocked::) sets out to find some professional fighters to help aid the inhabitants. This has a great cast; George Peppard (THE A TEAM), Darlene Fluegel (TOUGH GUYS), Robert Vaughn (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, THE MAN FROM UNCLE), Sam Jaffee (GUNGA DIN, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL), Jeff Corey (LADY IN A CAGE), Marta Kristen::love:: (TERMINAL ISLAND, TV's LOST IN SPACE) and Sybil Danning::love::::love::, whose costume defies the laws of gravity and nature.
Some early work for James Cameron, Gale Ann Hurd, James Horner and Bill Paxton, who aided on carpentry/painting. ***

MAUSOLEUM (!983). After her Mother's funeral, a Young girl enters the family tomb ("Nomed"-get it?::confused::) and is afflicted by the family curse which doesn't rear its head until she is thirty and then all sorts of odd things happen.
While the premise of this isn't bad, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Many pointless scenes and a ending that leaves us scratching our heads. Bobbee Bresee is our Scream Queen and like many actresses in that category, a lot of nudity is shown, but her acting leaves a lot to be desired. Also, an appearance by LaWanda Page (Aunt Esther from SANFORD AND SON) who is funny, but the role is very typical of scared Black servant, which went out of vogue after Mantan Moreland.
So, pretty bad overall, but some decent murders, especially>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

MOLLY AND LAWLESS JOHN (1972). OK western that has potential, but is too glacial to leave an impact. An unhappy/unappreciated wife (Vera Miles from PSYCHO) of the Town Sheriff (John Anderson, also from PSYCHO) falls for the sweet talk of a prisoner (Sam Elliot from FROGS), helps him escape and rides off to what she hopes will be a happier life.
As said, decent premise, but Molly (Vera) is a serious dingbat at times and Sam's character is a first rate Shitheel (although Sam was serious eye candy at the time...my wife likes MALJ quite a bit, especially for the shirtless bits). Also in the cast are Clu Gulagher (RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD) and lovely Cynthia Myers (PLAYBOY, BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS) in her last film. **1/2

Those are all amazing! They are even better than a lot of the more known serial killer films out there! The Black Cat from 1934 with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi and Dario Argento's take on The Black Cat in Two Evil Eyes would make two more good additions to that list.

PAPER MOON (1973). Decent road movie of a small time Con Man (Ryan O'Neill) driving a little girl (His real life daughter Tatum, who won an Oscar for her role) -who may be his daughter- across the Midwest to relatives. Along the way, she joins him in the scams and proves to be equal if not better than Him.
Not as groundbreaking as back then, but wonderful B/W cinema photography by Lazlo Kovacs and a good supporting cast including Madeline Kahn, Randy Quaid, John Hillman and Art Ellison, who was the Minister in CARNIVAL OF SOULS. ***

This is another comedy slasher from the 1980s that has plenty of humorous drama, dialogue, and action as most comedy slashers from the 1980s do, in similar ways. I don't know why I had never seen or heard of this before until recently, but I'm glad I finally did. It is just as equally entertaining as most along with being original and interesting as well. This one is about a campground opening up for the first time, only to have weird things happening even before its grand opening, like the water being contaminated due to a murdered dog being thrown into the well and a wild caveman who is not people friendly running through those woods who they can not catch or stop. They decide to open the camp grounds anyway, wanting the money, and not mentioning those other things going on. People then start getting killed off by that wild caveman who nobody is able to catch or stop. The camp ranger, however, had his son kidnapped 17 years earlier, who the police never recovered, and believes that wild caveman might actually be his lost son, and continues to pursue looking for where that caveman lives, hoping to finally recover his long lost son. There is a real sad ending to where you can feel sorry for the killer, only I won't get into any more detail, to avoid any real spoilers for those who have not yet seen this one. It is recommended for those who like the many different comedy slashers from the 1980s. ::cool::

MAGNUM FORCE (1973). Second, and by far the most violent, in the DIRTY HARRY films and Clint Eastwood is as badass as ever. Many of the cities worst criminals are being executed-and this is bad how::confused::?- and the question is by Who? OK turns by Hal Holbrook and Mitchell Ryan, but a lot of actors here in early roles like Felton Perry (THE TOWERING INFERNO, nice and cool as can be when we met him at CHILLER), Tim Matheson (NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE), Robert Urich (VEGAS), Kip Niven and Suzanne Somers! ***1/2

This is an Italian horror film from 1989, directed by the now late Umberto Lenzi, under a different name. It is not nearly as scary or gory as his classics "Eyeball" and "Eaten Alive," but it is overall well done. An abandoned house believed to be haunted by the ghost of a little girl who died in that house gets investigated by a radio DJ and his friends after his station receives weird messages traced back to that house. They encounter a crazy hitch hiker along the way who likes to pull pranks and complain about how everything sucks. They also encounter a drunk bum who tells them they need to go if they don't want to get killed. It gets more interesting as it goes along when the drunk bum gets crazier and actually does start killing, but there is also a ghost haunting the place, wanting vengeance about something at the same time. The action, blood, gore, props, and make up are overall well done. The drama and dialogue are also well done to develop the characters, plot, and story overall well, too. Those who like the cult classics from Umberto Lenzi, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, and Mario Bava should find this one worth a look. ::danger::

AND NOW THE SCREAMING STARTS! (1973). Really enjoy the Amicus Anthologies, but this single story film drags into tedium quick and never veers from that course. Great production values and performers I like (Peter Cushing, Stephanie Beacham, Herbert Lom and Patrick Magee), but story not strong enough to endure for 90 minutes. **

Starz Encore showed this one again out where I live, and it is even scarier and more amazing than I remembered it. This is also the only horror film I have seen Gregory Hines in. It is about a Native American tribe in New York City who turns into not werewolves, but regular wolves, after performing a certain ritual. After they turn into wolves, they prey and feast on those who will not be missed after they disappear, with a lot of the many people who disappeared and were never recovered turning out be victims of that tribe. It is overall scary and well done, especially with the scenes shown through the wolves' eyes looking very amazing and intense. Gregory Hines also did a great entertaining performance like he normally did in his career. This is not a werewolf movie, but even better, scarier, and more believable than a lot of the werewolf movies. ::devil::

AMAZON WOMEN ON THE MOON (1987). Very similar to 1977's KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE, AWOTM plays like an old UHF channel which usually showed the damndest things late at night with wild commercials as well. The title is being shown as the late night movie (many similarities to QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE and CAT WOMEN OF THE MOON) and during "Technical Difficulties", said wild commercials and short spots fill the space until the film is ready to roll again. A lot of hit or miss, but some truly funny parts (The Funeral "Roast". The PETHOUSE model and Lou Jacobi experiencing a whole new level of interaction) and an incredible cast...SO MANY performers I like::love::. ***

HELL COMES TO FROGTOWN (1987). Sam Hell is the last "Fertile" man standing in a post Nuclear War Earth who is kidnapped by a Govt branch to begin "Re-populating" the world (Sounds like a tough job, no::big grin::). First, He has to rescue a group of women who have been kidnapped by a town of mutated Frog-Men before commencing.
The premise of this is intriguing, but the film itself doesn't make it all the way. A bigger budget may have helped, but Sandahl Bergman is great as the leader of the Govt Branch and staying very much in character after just leaving the WWF, former Pro wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper is pretty good in here and most of the laughs come from him. **1/2

LENNY (1974). Decent film bio of Lenny Bruce, a comedian in the 50's/60's with an extremely Freestyle method of comedy, often profane and in Your face. Dustin Hoffman is very good as LB, who it seemed, had more balls than brains and decent support from Valerie Perrine as his drug addled Stripper wife. Also, the actress who played Madge The Manicurist in the Palmolive Dishwashing Detergent ("You're soaking in it") plays Lenny's mother and she's pretty funny in a film that really isn't. ***

THE EVIL DEAD (1983). Debut film by Sam Raimi still holds your interest, but I find it more funny than anything else-Bruce Campbell really takes the abuse! As gotten older, can see the limitations and to Me, it is very much in the "Found Footage" genre, many years before that. However, kudos to Raimi and his team for making this with next to no resources and having it still remembered. ***

Demons was awesome, I enjoyed the monsters, and gore, i've been meaning to watch this movie for years but keep forgetting about it...I loved the part where one of the main characters rides around the theater in circles with the bike and samurai sword goin to work!
The punks/hooligans were funny, I liked the scene where actress Bettina ciampolini playing the punk girl gets coke on her tits only to have them fondled with a razor, haha, (and cut) that guy was an a$$hole!
Havn't watched Night of the demons yet but I will when I'm in the mood, next film I watched is The Burning (1981), which is another film I've been meaning to watch for a while now. Giallo influenced much with them black gloves? Makes you feel like the killer, especially when the killer is stalking the girl in the woods near the beginning of the movie. You literally see through the killers eyes.

CAPTAIN KRONOS VAMPIRE HUNTER (1974). CKVH has quite a few flaws; it's very cluttered with sub-plots and script needs to tighten up . Horst Janson is curiously subdued, but according to D/P/S Brian Clemens (who got his start in TV's THE AVENGERS and even brought the Musical director along), He could ride a Horse and use a sword without training, so sure that was a big help with the low budgets Hammer had around this time. At least, it's a different take on Vampires instead of the usual Gothics they were releasing, so worth checking out.
Lovely English countryside (and Caroline Munro too::love::) and quite a few John Ford-era Western inspired scenes. ***

I don't know how old you are, but i thought the original Child's Play was a nice crotch-kick parody reaction to all the cutsey things that came out on the market: Cabbage Patch Kids, Monchhichi, My Pretty Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, etc. So, it was kind of clever to a 1988's audience. But I kind of doubt today's audience would get any of it the way I imagine it was intended.
I can't really comment on the sequels, cause I didn't see any of them except for trailers. Not sure what rails the sequels were riding...? Probably based on a non-parody take on Child's Play? What do you think?

That sounds like.....
SISTERS OF DEATH (1977, started in 1972). A sorority initiation goes wrong and "The Sisters" lose touch until all five get an invitation to a deserted house and 10 LITTLE INDIANS narrative takes over. Plays very much like a Drive-In film, but no gore or nudity as You would expect (especially with Claudia Jennings in the lead) , the Characters do Stupid things and just not very cohesive, although it's nice to see Arthur Franz (MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS) again. **

GRAN TORINO-2008. Somewhat disappointed the first time I viewed this, but a really good film and I feel one of Eastwood's best performances. His Cranky Racist is no one I'd want to be around, but actually brings a lot of humor to the story ;ie "Get Off My Lawn" and the look on his face when Son/Daughter-In-Law are showing him assisted living brochures. Clint is actually almost noble by the denouement. ****

Definitely, Tobe Hooper was a documentary cameraman, and the intro of TCSM has, not only a documentary feel, but also some inexplicable tone that produces a gut feeling of dread, of real danger, like a 90's doc on the LA riots.

THE BABY (1973). Grieving Social worker takes on a case of "Baby", a Grown man still in diapers, bottle crib etc and begins to butt heads with his frankly scary Mother (Ruth Roman is great) and two unusual sisters. This is really more of a Social drama than the Horror movie it's being advertised as, but a LOT of extremely off the wall moments help out and THE BABY is certainly worth a watch -remember seeing it for my 13th Bday and just last week on YOUTUBE. ***

When A Stranger Calls (1979)
This one is actually pretty scary especially in the beginning portion... the music, the suspense gives you a dreadful horrific feeling,, which than after begins with some goofy 70's style social scenarios which kinda put you at ease, but honestly I don't think it was necessary or atleast not have it drag out like that funny bar scene, maybe they didn't wanna put the audience through too much dread? Much better than the remake, which I also enjoyed, but not as good (they were obviously trying to appeal to a generation not as used to crazy horror movies like the audience of the 70's and 80's.)

DAUGHTER OF DEATH (AKA JULIE DARLING)-1983. You could call this a teen version of THE BAD SEED, except the title character in here has a deep love for her father, almost too extreme. This leads to her watching a Delivery man kill her Mother and hoping Dad will be all hers. Little does she know Pops has a Mistress He brings home and later marries. How can this be resolved?
Doesn't make it all the way, but better than I thought it would be with Isabelle Mejiias genuinely creepy as the obsessed teen. Tony Franciosa is OK as the Dad and although she bares skin, for once, Sybil Danning isn't playing a Window dressing part, and is pretty good as the new Stepmother who suspects all is not well. ***

CRYPT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1973) AKA HANNAH, QUEEN OF THE VAMPIRES-
This scared my Brother and I big time about 45 years ago, but sadly it hasn't aged well. Spanish film shot in Turkey was in color, but for whatever reason, Mill Creek had this version in Black and White. While it does add some atmosphere, the night scenes were almost impossible to follow.
Andrew Prine visits an island to bury his father killed under mysterious circumstances and ends up breaking the seal of a tomb containing a long dead vampire and the long ponderous way the menace is stopped. Some shades of THE WICKER MAN in here and actor Mark Damon (HOUSE OF USHER, THE VAMPIRE'S WEDDING-He later became a Producer) is OK and interesting to find out that Director Ray Danton was also an actor who was married to Julie Adams (CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, BEND OF THE RIVER and the Elvis Presley film TICKLE ME) at the time.
Also in the same vein as TWM , Andrew's character is abrasive and incredibly condescending to the locals; along with the 70's style clothes, the slightly poofy hair and the mustache, my wife had to remark that He looked just like John Holmes::shocked::! **

Forbidden World (1982)
In a making-of documentary, director Allan Holzman reveals he began shooting without a script with these directions from Roger Corman, "You have four days to write, produce and direct a seven- to eight-minute opening of a space movie… I'll give you an astronaut and a robot, and if you need any inspiration, I've always wanted to do a version of Lawrence of Arabia in outer space." lolz!
This is an ALIEN rip-off with 80s typical B-movie sleaziness! But it could be a lot more entertaining with less hysterical editing & those unnecessary high-angle shots. Moreover, that Xenomorph inspired creature deserved little more budget & screen time, IMO.
They even made a remake of it in 9 years later, DEAD SPACE...featuring Bryan Cranston!

THE BETSY (1978). Trashy film based on the trashy Harold Robbins best selling novel. The vast majority of Robbins's work involves Big Business, Double Dealing, Big Dollars and LOTS of Hobble Do GaGa by Hypermasculine Protagonists. These Alpha Males's skills in the Bedroom, normally told from the Woman's point of view, are Life Changing events for Her, and She is able to finally understand the ways of the World and where She belongs in it.
This one deals with the Auto Business where an aging Patriarch (supposedly based on Henry Ford) joins forces with an unlucky unto racer to build a new car with much opposition from Patriarch's Grandson.
Laurence Olivier plays the Patriarch and is incredibly hammy-He referred to this and others as a "Paycheck Picture"-and He steals many scenes. Also watching a Younger version of him testing the Box springs of his Wife's bed with a Chambermaid (French, naturally) while his wife is greeting guests at their sons wedding downstairs is pretty funny (The book's version of this part is quite raunchy). Tommy Lee Jones plays the Auto driver and gets to make time with lovely Leslie-Anne Down (COUNTESS DRACULA, THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY) and lovely Kathleen Beller (THE SWORD AND THE SORCERER) . Rest of the good cast includes Katherine Ross (THE STEPFORD WIVES), Bernard Herrmann (THE LOST BOYS), Robert Duvall (so many great films), Jane Alexander (TESTAMENT), Whitney Blake (TV's HAZEL and Mom to Meredith Baxter Birney) and Joseph Wiseman (DR NO himself).
Cheesy junk to be sure, but a good time waster and worth it to see good thespians doing the best they can with what they have to work with and I could see a lot of this as a DYNASTY episode. **1/2

HOW AWFUL ABOUT ALLAN (1970). HOW AWFUL IS ALLEN , more like it. I always liked Anthony Perkins; He could play uptight strange people with the best of them, but his character is really just a tool. Interesting premise runs out of gas and the ending is relatively easy to spot. *1/2

THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY (1980). Wonderfully charming comedy of a Coca-Cola bottle dropped from a plane into a Bushmen settlement. The contented group thinks it's a Gift from The Gods and enjoy this new present until it brings hitherto unseen strife. One of the Tribesman (N!Hau is great) decides to take it to "The Edge of the World" and return it to the Gods. Added on are an incredibly klutzy Scientist trying to get a young Teacher to her destination and a group of Revolutionaries attempting a Coup. It all sounds like a lot, but good flow and a lot of truly funny scenes. Highly recommended. ****

I also got to see an American horror anthology film from 1967 called "Dr. Terror's Gallery Of Horror" with Lon Chaney, jr. hosting it, which is not to be mixed up with the Amicus film, "Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors." This one is a comedy horror, and is a lot more funny than scary by far. It is still well done overall with a great hosting performance from Lon Chaney, jr. Each segment also had great hilarious endings. The two funniest are probably the last two with the science students and professor try Dr. Frankenstein's practice at bringing a dead madman back to life, along with the tale of Count Alucard! Those into the classic horror anthology films should check that out as well if they have not already. ::devil::

LEMORA: A CHILD'S TALE OF THE SUPERNATURAL (1973). NETFLIX described this as "A Fangy Paen to NIGHT OF THE HUNTER" and can see some of the similarities. A young girl leaves her home/church in search of her gangster father and encounters Lemora and other strange beings. Some good photography, music and props (those cool older cars) help with the somewhat muddled story (which may have been from cuts) and the adorable Cheryl "Rainbeaux" Smith is always worth watching. The Catholic Film Board put the film on a Persona Non Grata list and to be honest, The Church is not presented in the best light. Add to the somewhat seedy atmosphere and seedier people in here, LEMORA is worth a watch, but once was enough. **1/2

DEATH GAME (1977). Decent albeit nasty film that has elements I'm sure inspired parts of FATAL ATTRACTION (1987) and THE STRANGERS (2008). Seymour Cassel plays a content family man left alone on his birthday who hears a knock on the door and finds two lost Young women out in the rain. He invites them in to dry off and one thing leads to another with some steamy action! Problems arise the next day, as for reasons that become clear, His two Houseguests just aren't ready to leave yet...
Many trials/tribulations kept this in limbo for a couple of years (saw Sissy Spacek and Bill Paxton names in the production credits) and not a big success. Thought it was decent with good performances by SC and the two women, played by Sondra Locke (a couple of years before the Clint Eastwood films) and adorable Colleen Camp (always have liked her spots in many films like POLICE ACADEMY 2, THE VAGRANT, WAYNES WORLD ), even if they are both crazy as Shithouse rats! My copy wasn't the best and a little too much noise (scraping/yelling/laughing), but worth a look and another film showing what happens when You let the little head do the thinking for the big head! ***

I finally got to see "Blackenstein" from 1973, and it was about time. Although the editing and picture quality are not the best by any stretch of the imagination, the story does keep interest, and it has an understandable character you can relate to and symphathise with, especially with the first guy he goes after when becoming the monster. I also knew the jealous assistant who really turned him into the monster because he had a crush on the man's wife had it coming to him. The monster also looks cool for older school lower budget standards. I'll give it a worth a look for at least one time.

Zoe Tamerlis ( 17 when She made this and died only about 20 years later) is wonderful as a Mute Seamstress who works for a Demanding employer, hears sexist taunts while She and her Co-Workers leave for the Day and is raped twice in one afternoon. During the second attack, she manages to turn the tables, get his Gun and then it's DEATH WISH/REPULSION territory as Zoe begins targeting Lowlifes throughout the city (although I felt the Guy in Chinatown really had nothing wrong and sort of relieved He escapes). Low budget sort of hampers the overall effect, but some great scenes, especially the sequence in Central Park. As the film continues, Zoe (who wears little to no makeup in the beginning-looking like a young Natasha Kinski) increases her Hunting skills and is all but glammed out by the end! ****

MADHOUSE (1974). Enjoy the acting of Vincent Price and Peter Cushing, but not even they (along with Robert Quarry-COUNT YORGA, SUGAR HILL-, Adrienne Corri-THE HELLFIRE CLUB, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE- and Linda Hayden-TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA, VAMPIRA) can save this listless tale of a successful Horror actor who may have killed his Fiancee and while making a TV comeback, murders very similar to his films occur.
An interesting premise (very much like TARGETS), but doesn't try at all to do anything to progress the story and I was checking the time to see how long was left; never a good sign. Boris Karloff and Basil Rathbone get a Special Guest billing (despite being deceased for several years) via clips from TALES OF TERROR and THE RAVEN, along with PIT AND THE PENDULUM, THE HAUNTED PALCE AND HOUSE OF USHER. See it if You are a completest as I am, but keep some coffee nearby. **

ANY WHICH WAY YOU CAN (1980). Like Clint Eastwood and borrowed this from a friend. Never saw ANY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE-the whole premise just sounded too much like the wretched SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT.
