"Dead Birds". Overly slow, but has some good gore, some excellent visuals and FX and a nice creepy atmosphere.
Some of the dialogue is dreadfully muted though (the dialogue scene in bed was so bad i had to flick on the subtitles!) Something i see mentioned by others on the IMDB.
And the twist was harder to grasp details wise once you really started to think about it.
Good stuff though in general.

42nd Street/The Deuce is the strip/area of New York that was at first the home of Burlesque theatre and razzle dazzle cinemas and then in the late 60's the area became more run down and became the home of the Indy Cinema.
Dozens of cinema's would line the street ,with those big white marque frontages that over-hung the street (See "Taxi Driver") and gaurdy lobby advertising.
The cinema's would show the more risque stuff like cheesy horror, the upcoming Euro imports and Sexsploitation films.
As the great ear of the 70's arrived the are became even rougher and was filled with pawn Shops, Pawn Shops, fast food joints, gun shops etc etc crammed in between the cinema's.
Prostitution, petty crime were starting to florish, but the cinemas were now packed with the classic Grindhouse (as the cinemas were called) fare that would not get a mainstream release outside of the dying Drive-Ins.
This was rough cinema going with a capital R, but supposedly it was an experience never forgotten.
The audiences were ghetto and nornally rabid appreciative and sometimes just damn scary.
As the 80's came in many of the cinema's had become simple porn houses, hard drugs and crime had spiralled and sadly 42nd Street was starting to drown. tghough some great treats could still be found on the screens.
Eventually, as things got even worse, the area was the victim of the bulldozers and it was gutted of everything and became what it is today...a haven for Disney, overly expensive restaurants, tourist traps and very mainstream cinemas showing all the same films.
Something DID have to be done, but it was a cklean-up that was needed not simply a catch-all wrecking ball that wiped away decades of history and wiped away the heart.

Not a movie, but....whatever.
I just watched the pilot, and the following 2 episodes of
"Freaks and Geeks". I'd seen SOME of this show before, like a couple years ago, but only at really shitty times that seemed subject to change week by week, so yeah...
Pretty decent show. The acting is good, the storylines aren't overly complex, a nice mixture of comedy and drama. The "geeks" are so convincingly pathetic, and funny, as for the "freaks", well...they just seem like "the normal ones" to me...Alotta awkward situations goin' on, and this show captures the "80's feel" more than the cheap spinoff stereotype peice of unfunny shit that is "that 80's show" - THIS show does it right. It's a little like the wonder years, a little like growing pains, and pretty damn quirky. Too bad it's yet another quality show that died an early death.
You can buy the complete series on dvd now, I'd reccomend a look.
The first 8 minutes of the pilot episode can be viewed here:

I guess, yah to each his own. 'Cause to me The Blair Witch Project is one of the most stunning and original horror flicks ever made and The Fog was just a typical with a mask on. It was alright, but it didn't do much for me. And it really pissed me off when that lady at the radio station just fept screaming for someone to get her son out of the house. I got really annoyed. But it was alright, I liked the whole church scene with them coming out of the fog.

Yesterday, I watched:
Romeo Must Die- It came with our DVD player that we got like 3-4 years ago, and I never bothered to watch it until yesterday. It was a decent action flick, alot better than I though it would be.
Contagion- Ive been meaning to sell this to blockbuster, cause the 1st time I watched it, I thought it was a piece of shit. I wanted to watch it again before I sold it to make sure it really was that bad....oh god it is. Terribly written, boring plot....Jeffery Combs couldnt even save this garbage pile [Although his scenes were better than most of this poor excuse for enterainment]
Big Fish- Well, I love this movie. Not the 1st time I watched it, I had some friends in who dont like horror [] and they wanted to watch a movie. Definatly one of the best non-horror movies I have

When you say stunning you can't possibly mean visually or that generic script so what do you mean?
What's so original about people getting lost in the woods and killed in a horror movie?
You were annoyed by Adrienne Barbeau screaming too much but you weren't annoyed by all the screaming in Blair Witch?
And about it being original, I've already mentioned that there's nothing original about people getting lost and killed in the woods in a horror film. To add on to that all they did was take something that happened and made a movie about it(whether or not a witch did it that's another story), that would be like saying The Aviator or Cinderella Man is original, they like the Blair Witch are movies about things that've actually happened there for they aren't original.
I'm not arguing with you or anything just discussion.

Blindly clinging to faith that maybe EVERYONE was wrong...I got m'self a copy of
"alone in the dark"
figuring that even if something based on this FUCKING cool videogame series wasn't "good", it wouldn't be THAT bad.
Seems I was wrong.
From the beggining, it looked like straight to vido/made for tv kinda quality...the camerawork SUCKED, the acting, for the better part, sucked (don't even get me started on the Reid bitch), the storyline was "ok" but not really all that....however, the biggest dissapointment of all was that even the parts that were MEANT to be scary, weren't, at ALL.
The beasts looked like a cheap computer program had been designed to make a plastic toy run around...very poorly done.
I actually turned this one off...I'd seen enough when the guerilla guys and Carnby had a firefight with a few of the beasts, my GOD I don't think I've ever seen anthing that looked so cheap and tacky. Both my girl and I agreed that it didn't look like it was going anyplace good, or for that matter WATCHABLE, so we turned it off, NEVER to be put on again.
I never saw "House of the Dead", but was left thinking that SURELY it couldn't have been as bad as this...
Now I join the masses:
Do NOT see this movie...I bought a $10 pirate copy, and I feel ripped off, the part of the film I DID watch was a complete waste of time. At NO point, will this film impress you as much as your decision to turn it off will.

when i 1st saw it at the show ... (yes i paid money to sit in a theatre and see this mess) i was pissed beyond explaination - as i was pumped to see a new zombie movie.
this unflushable corn filled pipe clogging turd would probably be funny to watch now - knowing what to expect.
good for a laugh at how badly executed it was.

House of the Dead
Oh, what a movie this is. This is The Godfather of bad zombie movies, not that I expected any different. As a lover of bad movies, this was certainly an enjoyable flick...loved how in the scene on the boat, the used the same shot of a zombie getting killed like 50 times! Friggin hilarious. Oh, gotta love being able to see the things the stuntmen used to jump! And of course, the 15 minute shootout:rolleyes:
But the best [or Worst, I should say] part of the whole movie was this line :
Rudy- You Created it all so you could be immortal. Why?
Spanish Zombie guy whose name I forget- To live forever!
What the hell was that?
Anyway...if you're like me and enjoy a bad movie, get this right away. If not...avoid at all costs.

Christian Bale did a very good job in American Psycho... You should checkout "The Machinist"... Its good. Just came out on DVD. Getting rave reviews by many people. Check it out especially if you like session 9, memento, jacob's ladder and those type of thrillers.
I just rented "Cursed" unrated version and I liked it... If you are expecting a lot of gore and a really serious scary movie, you will be disappointed. But if you go in and want to be entertained with humor, nice gore, nice story, christina ricci, some pop outs, good effects, etc, you will then enjoy this movie...... Its a fun horror movie.

I also saw the Honeymooners last night because Land of the Dead was sold out.
Whenever a movie that I really want to see is coming out I buy tickets in advance just in case because most of the time they don't sell out right away. I've bought tickets ahead of time for Batman Begins,Star Wars,Gladiator,Chicago ect. even High Tension which is a great film but seriously it's not going to sell out only a week after Star Wars is released and the same weekend of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The point is I always do it and the one time I don't it blows up in my face.

I wish it were that but the theatre takes all the movies being released on the particular weekend and plays them all once at midnight on the day before it's release, i guess you could say it's their special premiere, so technically it only sold out 3 theatres for one time slot. But to take a more positive look at it.... it sold out 600 tickets in about 10 minutes.

^^ Great film. One of the many good gangster/crime films of the 90s. There was quite a lot of them during that time. Some were true;y terrible but that is definatley one of the better ones along with Goodfellas, Reservoir Dogs, Casino, Carilto's Way, ect. Hey, just finished watching it. I loved it. It was visually really beautiful to look at. I was seriously tense the whole time...I was always waiting for something to jump out;)
I was also really impressed at how well the film holds up, even today. I wasn't disappointed at all:)

Dog Soldiers.
Good, pretty darn good. Luckily Urge warned me not to over-psych myself, because as I found, it wasn't godly as I was starting to get the impression. But it was very enjoyable.

I really liked it. Michael Rooker is great. I think it is a straight to video movie, but it's well worth it, already ordered me a copy.

We just watched Hellboy for the first time...Not bad...
Saw "The Blob" (1988) last night.... Its the good 80s horror movies back in the day. You always have the bad ass with the leather jacket and mullet, jock, pretty girl, etc......Yea, its bit corny sometimes but I still liked it. The killings were pretty cool..... I thought the special effects were great for an 80s movie. The plot was good as well.
Its good to see "real blob" being used back then.... instead of CGI. The real blob back then looked much more realistic than if they were to use today's CGI blob. I still wonder how they made so much blob and what the hell was that they used?! Check it out if you havent.
This type of movie can be re-made again bc all of the characters are replaceable and I would think real blob and a mixture of CGI blob could make this movie look awesome.

Unique in the typical Argento way. I thought it was a little slow. I personally enjoyed "Deep Red" more but would put all 3 in about the same rating.

I watched 2.5 last night:
2001:A Space Odysey- Long and boring, but visually great. Ill watch it again in 5 years or so, maybe Ill apreicate it more.
Dirty Harry- Kicked some serious ass. Ive been wanting to see this for awhile, but Blockbuster didnt have it. I went in a different rental place yesterday, one that Ive only been in once cause it's a long ways from where I live, and they had it there!:D Anyawy, I loved it. Clint was great...hated that whiney-ass bad guy though,
And here's the ".5":
The Bunker- I started to watch this, but fell asleep not to far into it. Ill finish watching it sometime, but Im not in a huge rush, what I saw wasnt very good.

Good holy shit or bad holy shit? Personally, I thought it was pretty run of the mill, not holy shit either way:p
Anyway, I just got back from [finally] seeing Batman Begins. Awesome movie! I still dont think it's the best Batman yet, the 1st Tim Burton one still holds the title for me...but if Joker's in the sequel to this, it could be a close race:)
I was kinda worried about Bale as Batman, but he was awesome. The whole cast was amazing, actually.
*~[Minor Spoiler for this, MAJOR Spoiler for the Shaft remake]~*
Thought it was kinda neat when Bale intended to shoot Chill infront of the courthouse, and that his character in Shaft was shot infront of a courthouse:cool:

Holy Shit in a good way, I thought it was a good film and plus I'm really into Samurai,Ninja and martial arts stuff so that's probably what got the holy shit added on.
Of course you're entitled to your opinion but I have to disagree on Batman, I think this one was better but I've realized that you're a bit of a Burton nut so I get why you like it better.

The main reason I prefered the Burton one was the Joker. Bale was alot better as Batman than Keaton could ever wish to be. Like I said, iif the sequel to Begins has Joker [which it hopefully will], it will probably surpass the Burton version. Scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul were both awesome villans [Scarecrow was better than RAG, IMO], although neither of the hold up to the Clown Prince of Gotham:D

True the Joker is the best of the villian but I guess they wanted to do the story before they did a Joker movie because he's a villian that equals batman while scarecrow and Ra's Al Ghul just kinda blended in.

Good point
Who do you think would make a good Joker this time round? Nicholson totally NAILED it last time. My dad sugested Chistopher Eccelston...he could be ok with enough makeup and if he could do an American accent.
I dont know how well he'd look the part, but Mark Hamil sure nails the voice in the new animated Batman. He could be pretty good...

I really haven't thought about it......I know this obviously can't happen but I think Brandon Lee would've killed it.
Thomas Haden Church might be able to pull it off but it might not be possible with him being the new villian in Spiderman(wonder who that could be?)

I don't think so. I'd like to see Michael Keaton do it (as weird as that sounds). Joe Pecsi would make a cool Pengiun. Have to get round to seeing the new Batman film I haven't been to the movies in ages.
