16 going on 17.
Don't you dare go telling me that I'm underage!
If you're 16 and you think Predator 2's great you're ok in my book.
I rank Alien VS Predator the third best.
It contains elements from Alien that weren't used in the final version.
Giving it a little Lovecraft touch. Especially in combination with the location.

Its been a long time since ive seen any of them. thought original Predator was very good. Thought 2 was hack, added nothing. I saw some or all of AVP, i cant remember, but i was intrigued with wat they we doing. Didnt know there was AVP Requiem. That any good?
LOL!
AVP Requiem
Josh Rosenblatt of The Austin Chronicle dismissed the film stating it was "An orgy of mindless violence, a random collection of bloody bodies, alien misanthropy and slobbering carnage designed to bore straight into the pleasure centers of 13-year-old boys and leave the rest of us wondering when the movies got so damn loud.

Five sisters in 19th century England must cope with the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from a growing population of zombies.
Well...it's certainly Pride and Prejudice with zombies. A decent movie with a slightly interesting twist on the zombies. Gore is okay. It's certainly a well made movie. The zombie storyline takes a back seat to the Mr Darcy/Ms Bennett storyline that we've seen half a dozen times before. If you've never seen any Pride and Prejudice story and you're into horror, check it out. It was certainly the most entertaining version of the story for me, even if the zombie aspects were superfluous.

Overal I don't care for ghosts/haunted house movies. Only gave it a try because it's an R-Rated horror movie with a bigger budget. But I still wonder where it all went.
Thoughts, with spoilers
"-Based on a true story. Riiight. Had to grin after the talk show scene. "I hate it when academics call us frauds".
-Guy shoots several people in their home during their sleep, no one wakes up.
-The demon's name is its weak spot. That's why it gave her its name shortly before they took on the case. What a nice demon.
-Most English characters sound like bad stereotypes. They sound like Americans doing impressions.
-And all for only 40 million dollars."

"The Mist"
Slight spoilers ahead!
Watched it yesterday for (I think) the third time. What I like about it is it's pretty much a "fun" horror movie all the way through, and then the ending is... wow. After a fun ride the end comes and it's just brutally down and depressing. I love that.
It's also a fun movie in that it has telling glimpses into Frank Darabont's next horror venture, "The Walking Dead". Several of the same actors, similar ideas (group mentality), etc.
Plus... Drew Struzan!

Equals (2015)
https://s13.postimg.org/v3ymnkd7r/Equals.jpg
Set in a world where emotions have been eradicated. But still two people fall in love when they regain their feelings from a mysterious disease, causing tensions between them and their society.
Dull but a passable romantic sci-fi drama. I'd like to see young actresses like Kristen Stewart & Rooney Mara doing some joyful roles next time. The way Hollywood is kind of typecasting them or they have been choosing films with this sorta depressing & sad roles is actually frustrating. I think they are not that bad artists who can't or shouldn't try out different kind of characters in different films. Anyway, it's just an opinion.

"A group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they'll get away with the perfect heist. They're very wrong."
Contender for my favorite horror movie of the year. Incredibly brutal and suspenseful. The simplicity makes the movie all the more effective. It does get a little exhausting towards the end with all the cat-and-mouse games and twists and whatnot, but that's hardly a complaint. I loved it.

Horror in general has attracted many non-horror fans this year. I mean, all the critically praised ones (and by audiences) were financial hits: The Shallows, The Purge: Election Year, Lights Out, The Conjuring 2... it's been a great year so far. Its not surprising for me that I did not like it. I haven't enjoyed any super hero movie since the first 3 X-men films. As for the story/depth they crammed much too much into the film. Things just happened when in reality they'd need to take months to move along. I really do not see any depth. It was like a comic book issue as opposed to a graphic novel if that makes any sense in regards to depth.

Don't Blink -
I was going over the horror category listings looking for something short and good. I saw Don't Blink, a few actors that I recognize, and that it was barely 90 minutes. Also the abandoned setting description in the summary always sounds good to a horror fan so I gave this movie a try.
Don't Blink is very close to Triangle, The Mist, or a good Twilight Zone episode. I could swear I've seen a Star Trek episode like this movie too. But the movie is not unsettling enough in the end. If something like Triangle or those other examples can be around a 9 or 10 out of 10 in the sense of dread and despair at the end. Don't Blink is like a 6 or maybe 7. This sort of movie all depends on the ending and the clues provided when or if you decide to rewatch it. Or if you are very attentive during the first watch.
Maybe they didn't have enough money. Or the director who is also the writer ran out of ideas. The wiki has a link to an interview with the director which I read. But I still don't believe his reasons for making the ending a bit weak. And I've been searching around and feelings are mixed on the movie because of the ending.
SPOILERS!!!
There is a character that shows up at the end which basically tells you that this is a sci-fi government or aliens type of experiment area. So the movie is far more sci-fi leaning with psychological horror elements. The telling character is actually played by a Star Trek actor as well. He basically confirms that he knows what's going on and they are going around checking the area for whatever readings. It's a very large clue or answer if one didn't guess from a scene early in the movie that strange things are quickly happening in the environment that shouldn't be happening.
However there are some things, I guess you could call them oddities in the movie that make me want to know the story of the first group that were in the area. It's something similar movies would have shown to further the mystery. Or at least have the current group come across and attempt to solve the mystery while they are waiting around. For example, only the audience gets to see the physical warning messages that the first group left. Unless you count the hanging noose. As it stands, it makes the first group seem a bit smarter as they left those physical warnings and possibly attempted to leave the area.
There was a interesting, at least I thought at the time, tease that I thought the reveal might be related to Cthulhu. As one character has an octopus necklace and I think ring.
BIG SPOILER I THINK!
I also don't think it's a mistake that the first scene involves a character that has problems throwing up and also becomes comatose later in the movie. They are also the only one who knows when they are going to disappear. It's like some people getting sick while flying or scuba diving. Some do, some don't. But that's a tell that something is happening in the environment.
Also I'm sure people who watch Warehouse 13 recognize the actress here. Yet another sci-fi actress.
Maybe I'm wrong or I missed something. From what I've read on IMDB, few of them get the reveal of the final character and want things completely spelled out. That's fine sometimes. But also if the director leaves enough clues it's not always needed. But this is a good and short horror/sci-fi movie to check out.
I'll keep my eye out for predators.
There is a Predator fan film called Dark Ages. I would put that as the third best Predator movie.
http://horror.com/forum/showthread.php?p=996086&highlight=predator+dark+ages#post996086
The first Predator is still the best. Predator 2 is underrated and the second best. They couldn't go back to the jungle after the first movie. The near future and dystopia setting was a good twist. If you've seen the Lethal Weapon series, having that actor play a more aggressive character was also another twist.

for me, in Predator 2, that whole long scene in the warehouse... so frickin boring. Speaking of the jungle being repetitive... everything in the warehouse was repetitive of what happened in the jungle. Repetitive "action" doesnt do it for me.
What was cool about Predator was learning about the alien, and outsmarting him, 1v1, at the end. Predator 2 had basically nothing new to offer.
A part 2 would have needed to go to their home world, or something major like that... a new story based on their existence. To my recollection, Predator 2 didnt even have a story.

I mean, all the critically praised ones (and by audiences) were financial hits: The Shallows, The Purge: Election Year, Lights Out, The Conjuring 2... it's been a great year so far. I've been reading all over the internet that horror saved the summer box office.
Yeah, this is the first year in a long time where a good number of widely-released horror films are actually really good. 7 of my top 11 so far are box office movies, which is crazy. I think Hollywood finally realized you can make good horror, and since it's popular right now, people will pay to see it.
On the flip side, I've been a little disappointed in this year's independent releases, as compared to recent years.

I consider The Shallows a thriller and The Purge an action movie.
So that's only 2 horror movies. Imo it's been a weak year for horror so far.
To my recollection, Predator 2 didnt even have a story.
A mysterious killer murdered criminals. Police are trying to find out who.
Especially when special agents appear. Later on a colleague/friend gets murdered and it becomes personal.

Animal (2014)
Not HORRIBLE per-say. Although it's going to bother me to not know where the hell these things came from. They looked more like aliens but it's never explained or even theorized. Terrible character writing/acting, only 2 of the characters seemed even remotely believable. Lots of bits stolen from Jurassic Park and soundbites from Land Before Time films. I kept expecting Littlefoot to come in and save the day (he probably would've done better than these morons). The only thing that really saved it was the fast paced story, good filming (where as we could actually make out everything happening while it's night almost throughout the entire thing), and the creature design was memorable enough and NOT (for once in a recent film) CGI! I'd say watch it if you like monster movies with some gore, but don't expect a classic.

It was okay. Gosh, almost every kill he had the camera shaking, which in turn you couldn't focus well on the violence. On the circus bus that they traveled in had thee most boring conversations going on.. It was like they were just saying one liners and who could top who in saying the dirtiest things.
The greatest scenes were when total chaos exploded on the screene with stabbings and blood flying everywhere, this was cinematic insanity. Loved that. This crazy clown chick, was stabbing, stabbing, stabbing..well Zombie did this thing with the camera that made the scene psycho dream like, amazing!

DIARY OF THE DEAD (2008). Supposedly a "return" to his NOTLD film style, this has a lot going for it on an extremely small budget with some nifty FX and good Nicotero work. Sadly, most of the characters are so annoying You really don't care what happens to them, unlike the first one where You hoped they will survive their ordeal.
Worth checking out, but in no way comparable to the first four- it's still way better than SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD , which is just horrid. **1/2

Recently watched all three PURGE movies.
The Purge
It was a decent little home invasion horror. Fantastic concept and great actors. However it doesn't really live up to it's great concept. Little bit boring in places but it was entertaining overall.
The Purge Anarchy
It was a great sequel. It expands on the mythology and gave us a great anti hero. More of an action thriller than a horror. Reminded me of Escape from New York. It also asks some very interesting moral questions. It did exactly what sequels should do.
The Purge Election Year
Essentially more of the same from the second one except with a more political agenda. Really interesting stuff. It was a great evolution of the themes and ideas from the previous movies. Definitely worth watching if you enjoyed the other ones.
Overall, The Purge movies are very interesting action horror thriller hybrids with some very interesting ideas and themes. Worth watching. I would love to see more from this franchise.

"A corporate risk-management consultant must decide whether or not to terminate an artificially created humanoid being."
This movie started out so well. It was nice and suspenseful with interesting themes about morality and some surprisingly good drama. It had incredible directing, cinematography, writing and acting. Then it goes to shit. You can pinpoint the exact second it all goes to hell and turns into a mindless action thriller. Newbie Luke Scott has a promising career ahead of him because of how good the first half of the movie is, and I can forgive him for the disappointing second half. That doesn't make it a very good movie though.

I.M.D.B. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2238032/)
A detective from Hong Kong teams up with an American gambler to battle against a notorious Chinese criminal.
(FYI - long time fan of Jackie Chan. Grew up watching and re-watching all his 80's/90's classics.)
I love Jackie, but the majority of his western movies leave a sour taste. With Skiptrace, I was surprised with how much action was in it, given he's in his 60's, and that the action was pretty good. There were quite a few humorous moments between him and Knoxville also. There were a couple of seriously cringeworthy moments (i.e. Jackie starts singing and the whole Mongolian tribe joins in for a very bizarre musical moment), but overall, entertaining enough to be an enjoyable experience.
7/10.
I want to see Jackie doing something else. He just about gets away with his clowning kung-fu, but while he can still physically pull it off, he doesn't look young enough for it. His action scenes should be powerful and experienced, while leaving the awesome environment orientated kung-foolery he choreographs so well for the younger actors to perform.

In a small Midwestern town, a troubled teen with homicidal tendencies must hunt down and destroy a supernatural killer whilst keeping his own inner demons at bay.
A good movie! Carried by a strong performance from Max Records (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2504006/?ref_=tt_cl_t3), and it's great to see Christopher Lloyd (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000502/?ref_=tt_cl_t2) in a serious role. Often times it's hard to look past the fact that "Hey, it's Doc!" but for me he managed to transcend that in this movie. I had zero expectations and had no idea what it was about before watching, and I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

Natasha Lyonne was great. Basically playing the same character she plays in Orange is the New Black, even so she was good. The film had too much filler though. For me it felt like the directer wanted to make a Greg Araki body horror film in Michigan in the winter instead of an original film. At times I was close to turning it off. Side stories that are left open ended. The ending was fantastic.

Laura is a popular college student who is highly active on social media, which includes her Facebook account (totaling over 800 friends!). She then receives a friend request from Marina Mills, a classmate she barely knows & who has no Facebook friends. Out of pity she accepts the request. After being messaged constantly by Marina she decides to lie about going out for her birthday in order to avoid her, however photos from the evening end up on Facebook and soon after Marina attacks Laura at school before filming herself committing suicide, which is posted all over Facebook. Following the suicide Laura and her friends come under attack from a demonic force that appears to be Marina out for revenge.
Initially it delivered few fairly done jump scares but later it seems they just ran out of idea on how to scare the audience more with sudden loud sound & creepy encounters of the ghost. Moreover the ending was also a let down, expected a lot more 'fun' at the finale. Overall, typical plot but not that bad, found it at least far better than Unfriended (2014).

B/C
Dwayne Johnson was pretty funny in this one. Almost hilarious.
The man's certainly fit for comedy.
But Kevin Hart played another loud annoying character. I don't mind him as a person but his loudmouth characters are terrible.
X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
B-
The story felt a bit weak and Apocalypse didn't look the part.
He reminded me more of Star Wars' emperor when he should look more like Vader on steroids.
Everything else was great.

Watched "Green Room" the other night.
Having spent much of my younger days in the "alternative" scene (lots of skinheads, punks, etc. around at the time) as well as playing in bands, it was fun to watch a movie with that culture as a backdrop. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I really liked it. :)

Shallows (2016)
I.M.D.B. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4052882/)
A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills.
Enjoyable. CGI is a little dodgy in places which detracted from the tension of the scenes, and the shark attack jump scares were predictable and ineffective, but the woman vs the shark aspect as well as the character's medical background kept things interesting. Overall an enjoyable shark monster movie.

The Pact (2012)
I.M.D.B. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2040560/?ref_=nv_sr_1)
As a woman struggles to come to grips with her past in the wake of her mother's death and the disappearance of her sister, an unsettling presence emerges in her childhood home.
Effectively creepy. Supernatural elements are a tad stereotypical, but there's some genuine scares to be had, and overall is a very well made, entertaining scary movie.

Fictional drama based on actual events, about 2 teen-age girls who encounter an internet predator.
Tried twice to watch this one. Couldn't make it. Acting was atrocious, the actor's ages were all over the place, dialogue was terrible, scenes were not believeable - couldn't finish.

The Disappointments Room (2016)
"A mother and her young son release unimaginable horrors from the attic of their rural dream home."
By no means is this a bad movie, it's just... flat. It seemed like they were going for the next The Others with the minimalist scares and reliance on atmosphere, but there wasn't enough story to make the tension rise. It's difficult to talk about anything particularly good or bad about this movie. There was an obvious effort to make a spooky haunted house movie, but the director, DJ Caruso, just lacked the skill to make one. It's a movie that just kind of exists.

I rented Shallows a few weeks ago. Didn't like it.
I don't mean to be contrary to your review. Actually, I agree with all the specifics in your review, except the conclusion, that is.
The lead was interesting enough, and I didn't bail on it, but I was getting bored about half-way through, and thought the climax was underwhelming and very brief, (not to mention pretty far fetched and a bit hokey, which was a bit out of place with a rather realistic -- almost a "Gravity" stark realism film).
I didn't think the suspense was effective, which was basically its bread-and-butter; as it wasn't funny, ironic, profound, inspiring, fun, action-packed or scary.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Ah you see I thought the whole thing was far fetched and hokey. Instantly the shark was behaving like a psychotic murder shark rather than a real shark, so I could roll with the stupidity of it all. I thought it more of a 'woman vs a monster shark' rather than just a fight for survival, so I could forgive the lack of suspense, and I thought it fun/action packed enough for a woman vs shark movie. I see where you're coming from, but I thought it was about as much as you can expect from a movie with this premise. I would recommend it to people who like monster shark movies, as there are only....like....three others I can think of that are any good.

The Neighbour (2016)
I.M.D.B. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3330764/)
Set in Cutter Mississippi, the film follows a man who discovers the dark truth about his neighbor and the secrets he may be keeping in the cellar.
Marcus Dunstan (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1729303/?ref_=tt_ov_dr) and Josh Stewart (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1577637/?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm) brought us one of my favourite horror's of 2009, The Collector (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844479/?ref_=nm_knf_i2). Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this movie anywhere near as much as that one. There's nothing really special or particularly interesting happening here. While the movie is well made and enjoyable enough, it's ultimately forgettable and instead had me longing for The Collected, a movie already written that will, unfortunately, most likely never be made.

GET SHORTY (1995). Quite intricate with a lot of characters to keep up, but is still a favorite with John Travolta shining as a movie obsessed Loan Shark who goes to LA to collect a loan. On the way, he meets a B Movie Producer (Gene Hackman reminds me a lot of Roger Corman, although Rog had more success), romamces a Scream Queen, tangles with two drug dealers as well as tangle with a mobster-Dennis Farina is a delight as the stupid, violent and foul mouthed hoodlum. With aplomb Humphrey Bogart would have envied, he wraps it all up without breaking a sweat. *****

Piotr comes to his fiance's home town to marry her. None of his family comes, not that its relevant. Just thought it strange. Anyway he starts acting strange after discovering human bones.
Uses jewish myth of the dybbuk. Its an odd film. Mixes humor, laments, love, desperation. It also is like a mixing of 80's style horror, modern indie cinema, polka music, a lot more, but it'd be better to watch it and see than me tell you more. Its really really good. Not kidding, seriously. You must see it. Amazing film. If you do see it let me know what you think. I want to see if someone else agrees with me on what happened.

Not sure about DBD, but for me...acting. Dialogue. Cinematography. Story. Everything really. You know various things without anything being explicitly stated for you, it was so very seamless. What happens at the wedding is what you might expect if the groom starts acting more and more strangely. So distressing the director/writer killed himself at a festival his film was showing. : /

You're dead right about the expectations. Anyone looking for huge innovation is looking in the wrong place. I went in expecting a thrill ride, not a re-invention of the wheel, and I walked out ready to see it again. As I said, it's heavy on jump scares, but several of them worked on me. So while I take a grin and bear it attitude to the JS's , they were effective. It's most definitely a popcorn movie!

Saw Blair Witch today.
Pretty good movie. It takes a similar approach to the original but switches things up a little bit.
I found the characters surprisingly likable. It was an OK movie for the most part but the final act, last 10-20 minutes are really scary. I understand why some people have praised the movie considering how good the ending is.
It also doesn't explain too much. Leaving the audience to decide what actually happened. There where some very well done scary scenes. Every time the camera moved I half expected to see things in the forest in the background, this made the film somewhat unpredictable.
Some people will really not like this film and if you didn't like the original in any way chances are you won't like this one either!
I liked it quite a bit!

Though it was in Swedish, I was able to follow most of the story. A vampire virus is spread throughout a small town when a young woman takes what she thinks are recreational drugs to a party. It also happens to be a " thirty day night" kind of thing because this town is so far up north. Some dark humour , pretty enjoyable all in all.

Expecting something decently entertaining but disappointed. Thing is after the original TBWP, particularly in this found footage genre there were significant amount of movies came out with this "there's something in the woods" set up and even if I take it as a standalone film, this is still an average or actually a below average flick in compare to those. And as I just said, there were movies with quite similar set ups came out before but didn't get much attention & received mixed to bad reviews mostly but here the case is the title itself and it's relation to the cult favorite & one of the most influential genre films that came out in last 20 years, I guess. Otherwise, films like A NIGHT IN THE WOODS (2011), HOLLOW (2011) or NIGHTLIGHT (2015) also offered very similar premise & events in their stories where few people gets lost in the woods & experience some sinister force of unknown evil is haunting them one by one but actually worked or did better with creepy encounters/scare tactics than this one. That's why it gets me now wondering how this same film would do or left impact to the same audience if it had no connection with TBWP!?!
Anyway, in the film I found the characters were very mediocre...didn't care for any of them; jump scares weren't much effective at all, mostly filled with sudden loud noises & mix of static sounds (if anyone interested to only watch a new horror film for better & decent amount of jump scares, then I'd recommend the recent cyber horror flick FRIEND REQUEST). The ending kinda reminded me of REC finale also (mainly the way they tried to reveal the Witch this time!) but overall it was just another lame, cash in effort and another crap Adam Wingard film (expect THE GUEST which was an action-thriller & enjoyed a lot than his horror films).

I hated it mostly because of it took a hell lot of boring time before it took us into the "haunted house". I understand that there's a build up required for that but the frustrating part was the way they poorly executed a seemingly interesting idea of a 'room by room haunted house' plot. It was just dull, IMO. Moreover, those smoky ghostly effects inside the haunted house also quite hilarious and yeah...a better budget, cast & director might have solve that issue & others by treating the same concept with more interesting & clever approach.

The movie is about the investigation not the house itself.
So imo mission accomplished. And the ending was kinda satisfying.

FROSTBITEN 2006
Though it was in Swedish, I was able to follow most of the story. A vampire virus is spread throughout a small town when a young woman takes what she thinks are recreational drugs to a party. It also happens to be a " thirty day night" kind of thing because this town is so far up north. Some dark humour , pretty enjoyable all in all.
It does look fun. ty.

Saw Blair Witch last night and just hated it. I am a huge fan of the original, and this one showed a clear lack of understanding of what made that one work. Overblown, overlong, paper thin characters, a lot of flash with no substance.

Blair Witch (2016)
"After discovering a video showing what he believes to be his sister's experiences in the demonic woods of the Blair Witch, James and a group of friends head to the forest in search of his lost sibling."
I certainly wasn't disappointed by this. It was had some great scares toward the end and was quite intense overall. The new twists made it more interesting and pretty crazy. I'm not understanding the negative reviews that this is getting. The complaints are really bizarre and sometimes contradictory. I honestly enjoyed this a lot. It's quite different from the original but also keeps the spirit of the original. Nothing is going to replaced The Blair Witch Project, but this was a very worthy follow-up.

Solid review! As you know I agree about the criticism. It seems misguided or personal in nature. The movie is a romp. It's a thrill ride.
My only complaint is..

...that the new flick doesn't embellish the legend of Ellie Kedward/The Witch.
I appreciate that the filmmakers didn't turn the whole mythos upside down, but I would have liked them to take the legend a little further. Show us something significant or even just cool about the roots of the tale.
Other than that, I had a great time watching it and will be going back on Tuesday for another look. Glad you enjoyed it, horcrux!

*****SPOILERS*****
Honestly, the more I think about the movie, the more I enjoyed it. The ONE TINY THING I was disappointed in was that we never saw the original trio. Of course, they were probably dead, but I was hoping maybe to see their bodies or something. What I loved was the time travel. Some thought it was cheesy, but I loved it. When Lane came back and said "we've been lost for 5 days," that really creeped me out. I was also scared shitless when Lane appeared in the house and had been there for months, possibly years, with his beard and dirt and everything.

The Conjuring 2
Decent. I was engaged and the time passed quickly. The acting was decent. I liked how the director used the main sister. Scene choices and actor direction. At times the film was a bit too dark to see things happening. Might have the the television my parents have, I'm visiting for the weekend. Overall the acting was decent, but no one of particular note. Always a fan of british accents so that makes me happy. The use of the tight small spaces was done well too. I wasn't particularly moved emotionally, sometimes it was a bit cheesy. I think that's to be expected.
5.5/10
One thing that did bother me is
-------SPOILER FOR THE REAL LIFE EVENTS THE MOVIE IS BASED ON--------
The real events were proved to be false, all made up and colluded on by the family. I am ok with a film using a real life event, even proved false, to make a good film, but during the credits the 'actual' pictures and recordings used implies to the viewer it was real and there was hard proof the this events were real. Also the text used in the before and after of the film implied this as well.
I think the BBC 3 or 4 part version is also a good watch. More about the emotional connections with the characters than the demon and ghost involved.

Sinister 2
Better than the first, mostly due to seeing more of the snuff films. Though while watching the film I was thinking to myself, "Do I really need to watch this? Is this good for me?" I finished the film, but still not so eager to see a third. The way the snuff films are shot is very effective. I am annoyed, though, for the over used plot line of kids seeing ghosts, parents not able to, and kids not telling their parents. Over and over and over its used in movies and its annoying.

Took a while to get going this one but when it did there was a pretty much endless stream of brutality on show. Eli Roth's character especially, talk about having a bad day!
Worth a watch but I doubt Id ever revisit it.

Wonder when he will make a film without these uninteresting & badly written (like in this film) shit load of characters who only left zero impression to care for them as who cares whether they would live or die at any point of time in the movie!?! Other than Doom-Head's monologue at the beginning, found this overall another very disappointing film from RZ; shitty average story with shitty characters & a crap ending.

In a snow covered, isolated medical facility, a group of young college students paid to participate in the trial of a new memory-curing drug. It turns out that the drug works all too well, having the unintended side effect of giving its users the ability to see into the very near future...about what's going to happen next! But shortly it turns out to be their own deaths at the hands of a homicidal maniac who must be taking the same drug himself, because he seems to know what they're going to do before they do it...and there just happens to be a raging blizzard outside.
An average, flawed but still quite an entertaining slasher flick! I enjoyed it mostly because as I can't recall when I've last time seen a slasher film made with a fine cast & budget. They make them hardly this days :(

http://s22.postimg.org/8qlnhh4wh/hunt_for_the_wilderpeople_ver3.jpg
This is the story of Ricky Baker - a young, overweight, orphaned juvenile offender that idealizes hip hop and creates haiku poetry as a method of externalizing emotional conflict, due to the influence of counseling and therapy sessions. Stuck in New Zealand's sub-par youth welfare system, Ricky ends up on a rotting farm somewhere in the rural back blocks with his new foster parents. The real fun begins when a national manhunt is ordered for this rebellious kid and his foster uncle who go "missing" in the wild New Zealand bush.
An absolute gem of a kid/family-adventure flick from the director of WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (2014)! Not only the chemistry between that cute-fat kid and Sam Neill works so wonderfully & a blast to watch in almost every scene but the film also delivers quite a beautifully moving story with great dose of humor from start to finish.
Recommended.

After the re-emergence of the world's first mutant, world-destroyer Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan.
Other than a couple of stand out moments (Quicksilver), this movie was fairly mediocre. Apocalypse was unimpressive and his motivations unclear. Plot-holes abound. If any characters arcs exist, they are nonsensical. And the dialogue was pretty lazy. Turn your mind off, eat popcorn, enjoy the flashing lights and pretty colours.

"Five carnival workers are kidnapped and held hostage in an abandoned, Hell-like compound where they are forced to participate in a violent game, the goal of which is to survive twelve hours against a gang of sadistic clowns."
I didn't think I'd like this, but it was surprisingly decent. The first act was poorly directed, written and edited, but it got better later. It was obvious that quite a bit had to be cut out to get an R rating, so maybe the uncut version would fix some of the pacing issues in the first 30 minutes. It's certainly not good entertainment, but it's gritty and brutal enough to be fun.

The Inheritance -
I did the usual look through the horror selections and found this movie. They didn't have a trailer but instead a quick clip of a scene in a car that I thought was hilarious. Also I saw Keith David in the cast list. I think the last movie I reviewed with him was that Internet email movie, I think it was called Chain Mail. It wasn't the best nor the worst, yet he always gives good performances. After The Thing and They Live you can't really doubt his judgement with horror. Also, an actress was listed in the credits that was kind of familiar. Looking it up, I saw that she was in Trick r Treat. The Inheritance was short so I watched.
The Inheritance is something I've never seen or can't remember seeing before. It's a Black horror movie. The movie actually has a token White couple in it. And of course being a horror movie you can guess what happens to them. But I think the movie was sold as a Black horror movie and nothing else. Like they didn't even know how to make a good horror movie. It feels amateur and low budget at times. The story doesn't even make much sense. I could really tear this movie apart as a horror fan. But there is no point. The movie pretty much sucks. Yes Keith David is still ok in the movie. But this is one movie he should have walked away from.

6/10
Thank you for doing the dirty jobs, like reviewing R. Zombie films for us. I can never get past the horror of the dialogue of the regular characters. It's like, how do you know when you're in hell, if that's all there is?

Pacific Rim (2013)
8/10
Watched it again. Such a fun film. It's really good at being what it is. There's not a lot of depth in characters, or the science, or the plot... no poorly done pretense to be something it's not; it's just a fun sci-fi fantasy ride. Best looking giant monsters I've even seen on film.

PERFUME (2006). Lush photography, costumes etc and a pretty intriguing story line about a Guy who is blessed (or cursed) with a unique sense of smell.
Thought this was really well made, but ending was just stupid and truly takes away the impact of the rest of the film. ***
