I thought I reviewed it here or on the horrordvds forum. I thought it was ok up to the ending I think. But I passed on the sequel. And watched the DoubleToasted review for laughs.

Don't Hang Up (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3610746/?ref_=rvi_tt) - Two prank callers get a taste of their own medicine.
Good stuff, this. They manage to create tension with unlikable characters - Peyton seemed the most likable. The killer looks scary in the mask, which brings you more into the story. There are some twists near the end, but goign into detail would lead me into spoiler territory.

Ready or Not -
This reminded me a bit of Clue with mansion and odd characters. But maybe it's either a bit too jokey or too dark, I can't figure it out. There are some real hilarious moments throughout. But perhaps with a movie like The Burbs where it's continually played back and forth with the are they killers or not would work better for Ready or Not. Also, there are a few obvious character things that happen which aren't really twists.
I remember first seeing Samara Weaving in the Evil Dead TV show and thinking that she was a good actress in her small role. So it's cool seeing her in this movie. And I do kind of like the ending. Yet something about it just doesn't reach that level of a Burbs or Clue. I didn't immediately want to watch the movie again.

Never Hike in the Snow - A Friday the 13th Fan Film -
cbl0DmPR9fo
I guess this is a bit better than the first one from the same people. But it's still not worth keeping for me.
The short does have some good stuff. I liked a few of the opening shots. And as a big fan of Friday the 13th Part 6, this does have another surprise like the last short film. Although it doesn't make much sense given the events of Part 6. But still it's a cool moment, that I don't want to spoil.
But at the end of this short, I was just thinking, that's it? Perhaps they are working on a third part. This is only worth checking out if you like Friday the 13th Part 6. Other than that, I would skip it.

BONE TOMAHAWK (2015). Very gritty Western becomes very gritty Horror film towards the end. Really good , sort of THE SEARCHERS meets THE HILLS HAVE EYES. Kurt Russell is wonderful here with strong support from Matthew Fox (TV's LOST), Richard Jenkins (SIX FEET UNDER, READ BEFORE BURNING), Patrick Wilson (HARD CANDY, LITTLE CHILDREN), David Arquette (SCREAM) and Sid Haig (SPIDER BABY, COFFEY). An excellent script also. ****

I also saw the original back to back with the remake, I updated on the other thread...not as good as the original in my opinion...I felt like it wasn't scary at all really (or atleast it didnt scare me)...the original still gives me the creeps, the mix of music and realistic circumstances can make us understand the fear the character is going through...but i did enjoy the remake as just plainly fun, and it's cool seeing another movie with this story.

The Final Girls -

Back to the Future. I was hoping that Malin Akerman's character would come back.
It was like the people behind Final Girls came up with a good premise and cool shots but didn't realize that they had the elements for something even better. I was hoping that there was a sequel. But not yet.
Final Girls is funny in parts and worth a watch for horror and Friday the 13th fans. Still I just wish for a little bit more. It's not a movie I would own unless they made that sequel. And it needs and there is no excuse for not having a sequel going by the ending.

FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (1991). There seems to be a lot read into the relationship between Mary Chase Masterson and Mary-Louise Parker; ie, worshipping the Goddess Sappho, but it appears to Me that it's a deep abiding friendship with several layers. Some Office workers, sick of the endless bullshit from Higher up and saddled with an EXTREMELY annoying Supervisor, decide it's time to take the Bull by the horns and fight back. Good performances by the cast, especially Gary Cole as the Supervisor with his monotone voice and the endless "Yeah" in every sentence (Had a Supervisor whose main tic was "Do You know what I mean"::sad::) and although I'm on the side of the workers, for Me, Gary provides much of the humor. ***1/2

La influencia (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4008566/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) was a pleasant surprise.
It had a bit of a Shining-like vibe, both in the connection between the grandma and the little girl and Sara looking like Wendy Torrance. It managed to make jump scares not annoying and the ending was pretty intense. Available on Netflix, but best to watch in Spanish.

I know what you did last summer....had to come back to this one I saw it a long time ago, I actually really like this movie, I like the fisherman killer with the ice pick hook, the gorgeous lady's, goofy male actors, and i love that body in the trunk full of crabs great moment...some hate this movie, but I think its pretty good in all honesty, it doesn't bore me like alot of other movies in this sub genre of slasher.
As for the sequel....I don't know, gonna watch that next but I've heard bad things about it, either way when I watch a bad movie I get a good laugh.

I believe I’ve seen him in 1 movie where he was normal. But then again, I think he was just a side character, so that doesn’t really count.

He was at least somewhat calm as "Weyoun" on DS9...still a prick though...
Though yeah, everything I've seen him in...let's see, I bet if I looked on imdb it would be that, either "crazy guy" or "background guy" of some kind in every role.

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW (2014). A group of people (led by one annoyingly pushy girl) explore the catacombs of Paris for treasure both monetary and archeological. It's pretty ambiguous with references to Hell, Dante, Karma and even THE DESCENT thrown in. Some decent moments/scares, but filmed in the "Found Footage" style and becomes hard to follow and the constantly shaking camera becomes intrusive. *8`/2

Creepy farcical story. The mechanics are done well: music, shot direction, cinematography, acting... but the story bounces around from a strong emotional family guilt subject, to different parapsychological subject matters, or bits of other horror films, that really don't have anything to do with the ending subject. It felt jumbled to me, more like a Gaillo film; if you like sense, I don't think this will satisfy.

CREEM: AMERICA'S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL MAGAZINE (2019). Doc on the music magazine (1969-89) centered in Detroit MI (instead of NYC or LA) and was more meat and potatoes than the pompous Glad handing ROLLING STONE. At times informative, irreverent and infuriating, CREEM (along with CIRCUS) was one of my Go-To mags in the late 70's-Early 80's. They were certainly fans, but no qualms about busting balls with Rush, KISS and David Lee Roth in particular being skewered on a regular basis. I wish it had been a little longer, but lots of memories of a time when I would get my news the old fashioned way and when I felt the music truly mattered. Interviews with many of the staff (including the acerbic Dave Marsh/Lester Bangs) and Rockers who were covered (KISS, Alice Cooper, Joan Jett, etc) and future stars who read it (Michael Stipe, Chad Smith and Kirk Hammett). ****

If I didn't knew it already I woudn't have guessed it was made by a Cronenberg. Now that I know I did notice some Cronenberg trademarks, such as the gross graphic scenes and the overall weirdness of the story (not Naked Lunch/Videodrome weird tho). Mostly it reminded me of another movie, but the story never became as deep as that, which was good, because then it would've been kind of a rip off.

A fast paced, stupid fun-slasher!

its a scary movie, it plays on realistic fears some people have, the knocking on the door, the mystery behind the killers, the way they look and act, the inspiration of the manson murders, it reminds me of 'when a stranger calls' in some ways, suspense plays on fear, i really liked it, cant believe it was made like 12 years ago...

EVENT HORIZON (1997). I really wanted to like this more...really good Special effects and I like Sam Neill and Lawrence Fishburne (although He sure did sound a lot like SGT Appone from ALIENS "Listen Up People!"). I could see the ALIEN inspiration, than it goes into HELLRAISER territory-have read that there is also a SHINING aura around it, although I didn't notice that. By the end, EH has become so chaotic it's hard to feel satisfied.
Found out doing some research.that there was only a 10 week schedule and than Paramount removed almost 30 minutes from the film to appeal more to audiences and for no good reason as EV didn't do good Box office at all. Two big strikes against it and not even any material left over for a Director's Cut, which stinks as this really could have been a decent film. **

I really loved this movie.
Later I found out it was the inspiration for the Dead Space video games. I am really looking forward for the Amazon Series. Hope it's good.

It’s actually a remake of a French movie that’s inspired by real events, which isn’t Helter Skelter, if I remember correctly.
well wiki says this "The screenplay was inspired by two real-life events: the Manson family Tate murders, a multiple homicide, as well as a series of break-ins that occurred in Bertino's neighborhood as a child.''
is the movie you're speaking of called Them?

The scenes with Sam Neill and Lawrence Fishburne are the best parts of the movie. I've watched the movie two or three times attempting to find a good movie worth owning. But I'm not there yet. I did read that they might have that director's cut after all coming out. So I'll give it a final chance then.

The first one is kind of okay, even though the end scene is a bit predictable.
The second one got pretty dull in the middle with a - granted - unexpected twist at the end. Even though it made little to no sense.

SILENT HOUSE (2011). A Young girl goes to help Her father and Uncle repair a vacation home when the weird stuff begins happening. A little hard to follow, but stick with it. Not as good as it could have been (To Me anyway), but others may like it. HEARTBREAKERS (2001). OK comedy about a Mother/Daughter Con act...The Mother marries a Guy and the Daughter helps to break things up and get a Big settlement. Not great, but certainly worth seeing. Sigourney Weaver is always good, Jennifer Love Hewitt appealing, Gene Hackman and Ray Liotta are both funny (although Gene's character is totally revolting) and a nifty cameo by Anne Bancroft. ***

Fatman 7/10
A story about an evil rich boy who hires a hitman to take down Santa, because why not.
I really liked the 3 main characters, the boy, the hitman and Santa, which might be the reason it took me so long to realize, wow, this build-up has lasted more than 3/4 of the movie which leaves for 15 minutes of action in the end. That sucks.
The long build-up would've been fine if the movie had been half an hour longer. Also I could have done without most of the scenes with mrs Santa (or who the hell she was). Those 15-20 minutes would have been better spend at the final showdown.
A thing I found both ridiculous and hilarious at the same time was the hitmans' reaction when he got the task. Santa Clause? I'm on it.
This might have been a good christmas flick if it actually took place around christmas, but oddly enough most of the movie takes place in january. Opportunity missed.

Freaky 5/10
When will the world realize Vince Vaughn isn't funny?
The comedies that works with him starring it is the ones that has a funny supporting cast. This movie absolutely didn't. All the side characters was just so damn crinchy and Vaughn wasn't much better. Where a better comedian would have been absolute gold in the role as an innocent woman trapped in a male killers body, Vaughn just looked totally uncomfortable throughout the entire movie. And it doesn't help that the guy only has 1 facial expression. And no matter how hard the guy tries (if he even try at all) he always end up playing the same character. Vince Vaughn.
The movie is made by the same director who made "Happy Death Day" 1 & 2 and that's very easy to see. The problem with Freaky, besides the above mentioned, is that the action is the same as in his two former movies but the story just isn't as original and the humor certainly isn't as funny.

In the House (2012)
https://i.postimg.cc/K8rJXm38/ITH.jpg
Germain is a bored professor who finds most of his students clumsy & untalented. Then he becomes infatuated with one of his students, Claude...mainly with his story like essays, which are about how he got a way into his classmate, Rapha’s house & family life. And what begins as a one-off weekend assignment for literature class, escalates with great infatuation when Germaine detects flashes of talent and decides to groom Claude on his “To Be Continued…” stories.
I haven’t seen much French director Francois Ozon’s works before, not at least in recent times; so this turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise. Ozon’s IN THE HOUSE is a pretty interesting thriller with a solid cast that will hook you up from the very beginning with its tight script, suspicious characters & engaging turn of events. The film comes with multilayered themes i.e. a young man’s infatuation for a “perfect suburban, family life”, a writer’s voyeuristic & desperate nature in pursuit for a “complete story” and losing morals or even much more along the way at the end.
The thing that I mostly enjoyed in this film was the way Ozon keeps his audience in a dilemma between ‘original’ & ‘fake’…what parts of this “real” characters are actually “fictional”?! Or is it all someone’s twisted mind playing around or not?! That’s why though I was expecting some twists & turns & little more ambiguity or mystery at the end but still the way Ozon concluded everything I think that’s what made it a different experience than other genre films with similar kind of premise & characters.

I was looking forward to this one and I was only let down a bit. I will say I'm a big fan of Leviathan so this sort of movie is for me. And I usually check out Kirsten Stewart movies. I didn't watch the trailer and only saw the first poster. So the setup and events were a surprise.
https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fupload.wikimedia.org%2Fwikipedia% 2Fen%2F4%2F4a%2FUnderwater_poster.jpeg&f=1&nofb=1
My thoughts will spoil a lot of the movie so.
SPOILERS!!!
SPOILERS FINAL WARNING!!!
SPOILER TEXT HIGHLIGHT TO READ
At the start of the movie I was reminded of great movies movies like Alien and Aliens. I still haven't seen The Abyss yet! And of course Leviathan. To the point where something that's joked about in the first part of Leviathan happens in Underwater.
Underwater starts fast and barely lets up. We only get a bit of dialog and it gets going with a disaster at the station. That bit of dialog is important though to Kristen Stewart's character Norah. And it's also my biggest problem with the movie. Something happened to Norah's character. I don't think we clearly find out. The dialog in parts of the movie were difficult for me to understand. But I think Norah lost her boyfriend or husband to a tragedy. In fact, we see Norah touch an unseen for the most part necklace under her shirt many times in the movie. And she has a picture of him near her workstation that she takes with her before her journey.
Anyway, Norah and her group need to go to and walk across the ocean floor to another station to get to some escape pods or just safety. And at the end, after surviving all this underwater stuff, Norah decides to give up and sacrifice herself to save this couple in the group. It's kind of a mushy relationship thing. I didn't buy it because Norah goes through so much to survive. She's the hero. The person who she states at the beginning is a glass half empty person, that now fights to live throughout the movie. We even see her fixing many machines to survive. Maybe if she wasn't fixing things and there wasn't an escape pod, I could kind of see it. Or if we saw what the bad guy was doing first. But no, she just gives up and doesn't try anything. Doesn't even use the computers to search for other pods. I don't think they addressed if the escape pods could only support one person. Unlike in Alien when they stated how many the escape ship could take. This isn't Ripley at the end of Aliens on the planet or Jyn Erso at the end of Rogue One both with zero options. A bunch of recent modern movies have these give up deaths at the end and I hate it.
However, the good thing is there is an alternate ending in which Norah survives! And guess what? That is where we see Norah's necklace and it ends up helping her. You can even see the pod she fixes flashing both red and green in the normal version of the movie. But Kristen Stewart wanted that bad ending.
https://www.nylon.com/kristen-stewart-underwater-ending
Honestly, I think this alternate ending should have been a studio override situation. Someone should have known the type of movie they were making. Or the type of movie they had.
Also I have to mention the bad guy. It's Cthulhu! I can't believe the studio didn't use that to market Underwater. Teasing ancient evil or something. At least have an after release poster spoiling the villain. It's like having a Alien poster without the Alien or egg. Underwater turned out to be a flop according to wiki. But more people should check this out. It's a short movie and almost all action.
Another slight problem is since it's supposed to be underwater, the picture is kind of dark. And I couldn't tell what was going on at times or where the group was going. Since the group and company has high tech equipment, the director could have shown maps on their helmets or screens at the other locations to give reference to where they were. But that's one of those things that you appreciate with movies like Alien and Aliens. Even though dark in those movies, you can see the well designed locations.
Without the spoiler, I liked the movie. I actually had a few jump scares which is rare for me. It could have been better. But after listening to some bits from the director, he wasn't locked down on certain elements until after filming. That's something I'll never understand with Hollywood. But it's worth a watch if not owning if you like movies like Leviathan or those movies I put in the spoiler.

It is not nearly as funny as I expected, but I still got my share of laughs in, and it kept interest with being entertaining along with some awesome moments here and there as well. I also got to see the puppet Blade's new movie "Blade: The Iron Cross," and it turned out overall great in my opinion. I like this one better than the more recent sequels to the Puppet Master series, and about up with the original trilogy. He not only helps to take on the American Nazis who are still trying to rise again, and have also discovered most of the formula Andre Toulon used to being his puppets to life so they can bring their own creatures to life, only they are working at bringing huge powerful monsters to life to tear up and enslave mankind for themselves. Blade is also teamed up with a young girl who has psychic powers and works at a local newspaper as a reporter. She uses her powers and Blade's fighting and killing abilities to help prevent the Nazis from creating those monsters and taking over. ::devil::

I just saw "Monster Rumble," which is a comedy horror parodying both the classic monsters and pro wrestling with different monsters squaring off in the pro wrestling by a dark graveyard. It also has "Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart assisting with the commentating for each match. Each monster has their own funny little backstory revealed before each match, then the action begins as two of the monsters go head to head in that ring. It is overall funny and entertaining for a parody spoof, and is not meant to be taken seriously at all. There are a lot of negative reviews, but most of them sound like they were expecting a serious horror movie, which it is not by any stretch of the imagination. For those who like pro wrestling and over the top parody spoofs, it should be worth a look. ::cool::

There are a lot of negative reviews, but most of them sound like they were expecting a serious horror movie, which it is not by any stretch of the imagination. For those who like pro wrestling and over the top parody spoofs, it should be worth a look. ::cool::
Sounds like fun..will have to check that out!
SPRING (2014). At loose ends after losing his parents and his job, a Young man travels to Italy (Wonderful camera work) and meets a mysterious young woman, harboring a dark secret. Complications arise when feelings do....
My wife really liked this and had potential to be decent, but just plodding throughout and I lost interest about half way through. Seemed to be lots of love on IMDB, so maybe it's just Me. **

Has anyone of you seen End Trip (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6450662/?ref_=tt_urv)? I liked it for playing with things like the timeline and expectations, working with modern applications (like Uber and social media) and having some genuinely creepy moments like the bit with the contacts. Granted, it might have had some continuity errors and the bit with the girlfriend seemed a bit unresolved.
Also kind of funny to see this suspiciously positive reviews on IMDB.

CRUEL INTENTIONS (1999). Despite three of the blandest performers I can imagine, this is a pretty salacious intriguing little film about a rotten Brother/Sister combo who delight in manipulating others for their own entitlement. Certainly worth a look. ***1/2

Well, I personally liked it. That's all I can say. ::wink::
La influencia (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4008566/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) plays with relationships in families, particularly the family grudges. Friction between generations and such. I liked the finale and how they built up the tension and the atmosphere. You can recognize the style fairly soon, but that's okay, since this is a good effort.
Quick sidenote: For some reason, the main character's sister reminded me of Wendy Torrance. Maybe a little nod to The Shining? Or not. :-)

I finally got to see the Krampus movie from 2013, which sort of does look like a 1970s horror movie, but that's one of the things I like about it. It's also in old school done right format, not as in cheesy. It is also a serious horror film, and not a comedy horror like the one from 2015 is. Krampus and Santa Claus are also on the same team in this one, brothers that actually do see eye to eye, plus the people Krampus mainly targets in this one are rapists, pedophiles, kidnappers, animal abusers, killers, and others who would deserve the torture Krampus gives them. With that being said, Krampus is not really the bad guy in this one. Each victim actually turns out to have done something to deserve it. It has a similar feel to the stories based on E.C. Comics based on bad Karma getting those who have it coming to them in very original and creative ways. I actually would recommend it to those who like the old school done right artsy and gory horror films, and maybe for fans of the E.C. Comics as well. It's not like the one from 2015. ::devil::

I also got to see the sequel to the Krampus movie from 2013 called "Krampus 2: The Devil Returns," which is overall well done for the most part. It does have a few scenes with sloppy editing and the staged combat in there is terrible. Aside from those parts, it is really interesting and intense. It also has its share of twists and turns leading up to a surprise ending that I did not see coming. It also has each and every victim turning out to have done something really bad to deserve the punishment.::danger::

Halloween H20.
Kind of the "90's slasher" iteration of the franchise, and almost attempted to do much the same as the most recent film did.
All in all, I thought it was decent.
Perhaps a few too many personalities or something, I always find I preferred the original (and later, the latest one) on account of more simplicity in this regard.
I remember I HATED the follow up, but yeah, H20 was decent.
I'd give it a 6.5/10
