Southbound (2015)
6/10
I didn't like it. But it was interesting.
On a desolate stretch of desert highway, weary travelers-two men on the run from their past, a band on their way to the next gig, a man struggling to get home, a brother in search of his long-lost sister and a family on vacation-are forced to confront their worst fears and darkest secrets in these interwoven tales of terror and remorse on the open road...
Well made, with some fresh ideas, interesting scenarios where I was curious to see where they went, but I was decided disappointed at the conclusive destinations. Empty payoffs; chalk it up to taste?
Interesting to note, on rottentomatoes, vast majority of critics liked it (80%), but 2,400 Audience scored it 54%, which is significant. Maybe critics are relieved to see some craft and variation, but the general audience wants more meaning, heart, good defeating evil, or at least a worthwhile punch in the gut.
I was impressed with the dizzying climax of the early motel scene where the daughter is running into different rooms beyond the father's reach. Would have been an impressive end to the film, which of course, it is.

Surprisingly good. I had this to watch from a while ago, probably 2014, but hadn't gotten to it. I didn't know/remember anything about it except it was on my list. I'm quite glad I didn't. Its a horror film of course. I'd suggest doing the same, watch it without knowing what its about. It will definitely enhance the experience. If not I'm sure you can look online for information about it.
edit, moving this to a 7/10 from a 6.5. Must see.

A strange french somewhat lovecraftian horror movie made by a very visually focused director. Just look at the poster. Beautiful. Hope we get to see more horror from this Lucile Hadzihalilovic in the future.

Did you like The Purge (2013) a lot?
I just saw it recently. It was interesting. I liked where they were going with it sci-fi-wise, but I didn't think it went far enough with character/social/political issues. Partially because I didn't think the action, suspense and horror were done all that well.
Now that the interesting premise is already known, I'd doubt there's anything left worthwhile for sequels. You'd have to advance the premise to a wider sci-fi political thriller. i mean a great horror director could redo that whole home-invasion bit, but that seems awfully repetitious.

I did like The Purge, but not a lot.
Like you, I liked the idea behind story, but not the story itself, which turned out to be a simple home invasion movie. The second movie went outside the house and that was all fine and dandy, but other than that there really wasn't anything new to it. Then this third movie comes out. Outside again and everything is pretty much the same as the last one. I can't really see this getting more sequels. There just isn't enough meat in the concept.

I think it's a good concept but they need to do it right.
It should be over the top madness and mayhem with blood, gore and nudity.
24 hour purging instead of 12 so we get some daylight action. Less purging rules, more insanity. Perhaps some other location than a big city. Someplace nice and sunny in contrast to the brutal violence.
I think Rob Zombie would be perfect for the job.
The story: bad guys have to get home during Purge day madness while being chased by a psycho cop (or cops) out for vengeance.

Pretty fun comedy with awesome cast, special effects and good action at the end. It's not as good as Paul Feig's other movies since the jokes are more hit-and-miss. Maybe he should stick with R-rated stuff. It won't replace the original, but it was great seeing these funny actresses work together.

I was surprised to see this was made by a total rookie as it felt like a comedy made by one of the veterans in the business. That being said, The Bronze will probably only be remembered for its weird (and graphic?) athletic sex scene.

What if it made perfect sense for ordinary people to kill each other for money? Better than slow grinding financial ruin and misery, and all done according to a strict code by consenting adults. This is Trading.
A good performance by John Bradley keeps it interesting, but the movie never goes beyond it's initial concept, and the persistent deadpan acting from Killian Scott takes away gravitas from the situations.

The sun drenched days of summer turn dark and ominous for hitchhiking duo Jack and Véronique when they become inexplicably entangled with a mysterious married couple and a local road kill collector in rural France.
A suspenseful build-up where intriguing characters act peculiarly with dialogue that encourages the viewer to speculate what's really going on, but results in an ultimately unsatisfying third act. Joséphine de La Baume is hot though. Worth a watch? Uhm...I can't really recommend it, but I enjoyed watching it.

Pretty well written with strong performances by the leads. Although I enjoyed watching it, I felt it lacked a certain punch. It could have been a lot darker, but instead the subject matter was portrayed so invisibly (that is to say, completely off screen and vaguely referenced to the point of confusion), that it didn't stir enough emotion within me to care about the characters.

Great characters, some good scares and a cool villain. It's not especially scary since it's mostly the same scare (lights off, monster appears), but there are some that work pretty well. The family dynamic in the movie reminded me of The Babadook which was great. The opening scene was amazing too. They also didn't go overboard with the backstory which was something I was worried about. They kept it short and to the point.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
6/10
Mildly interesting and entertaining film.
If film makers were bold enough to change Superman's character into something unfamiliar to us -- as was inferred through one of Batman's dreams -- that Superman was a strange alien, acting like a capricious greek god... than I think this could have been a great film.
But of course, that wasn't the case. This was merely the first entry of many DC comic superhero films to star the Superman, Batman, etc, whom we already know well.
Of course, I'd assume, who ever owns the copyright of Superman would not allow his character portrayal to be significantly different, even for one film. Too bad.
The film was 2.5 hours. I think if the director had kept Superman's character a complete mystery, and instead told the story exclusively from Batman's skewed view of him, until the final battle, I think this may have been a very good film.
Also, as many may have opined, the film ended with the superhero's battling a late entry creature, alongside a third superhero. I found it disjointing and belaboring to the film and story.
There's a 3.5 hour version that's said to be play more smoothly. If you're going to watch one, and have the time, go with the 3.5.

I thought it was quite disappointing.
The scouts angle wasn't as I hoped. I expected more creativity like traps and perhaps badges for killing zombies. There was more to it. Should've been a scouts troop vs zombies. Not just a couple of kids.
And the final battle was totally ruined by a strobelight.

Human Traffic (1999)
A
More than decent and fun view on the late 90's rave/club/drug culture in Wales. If you're familiar with the subject you notice that it's a realistic and near perfect reflection of those times.
Oh, yeah. I nearly laughed my ass of when I noticed Rick from TWD ordering a pint, later on fucked up on speed/xtc and trying to get some tokes from a joint. If you're not interested in seeing the movie, here are his scenes

I think I enjoyed it more than before. Similar to Snatch en RocknRolla but with less humour.
Kinda fun to see Tom Hardy when he still had a babyface.
The Game Of Thrones' Night's Watch traitor, who's good with knives, had a small part too.

Set in Ibiza, Paul Kaye plays a DJ with an alcohol/drug addiction who goes deaf, spirals out of control and tries to get back on his feet.
I think this movie proves once again what an underrated actor Paul Kaye is.
He's also in Game Of Thrones now as Thoros of Myr, the drunk Red Priest.

Willard (2003)
4/10
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/48/Willard_movie.jpg
A young man with an unusual connection to rats uses them at his own sociopathic will.
Where to begin? Let's start with the good: Crispin Glover was born to play Willard. In fact, when anyone said, "remake of Willard staring Crispin Glover", thousands of palms struck foreheads with the gleeful chorus of, "Yes, of course!" And Crispin did a fine job (for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the 2004 Saturn Awards), in spite of a woeful script, that was a horrible disservice to the mysterious perfect meeting of actor and role.
Also very good was the near exclusive use of live rats, that were seamlessly integrated with CGI rat effects where necessary. The film was well funded (20 million), with effective cinematography and all-around production value.
Unfortunately, the script was aimless, heartless, confusing, horrorless and humorless, and lacking in suspense. The film was written and directed by Glen Morgan.
The film should have been written and directed by Rob Reiner (Misery) or David Cronenberg (The Fly). Brian De Palma (Carrie) would be an excellent choice for a suspense director, but would have written something much too perverted for an appropriate PG-13 Willard.
The beginning of Willard almost seemed to be in the graphic novel genre, a genre that can be lofty, where it paints with rich symbolism, and lets smart viewers fill in the inferences. But I quickly realized Willard was lofty in the sense that it didn't want to present anything in a definitive or strong manner. I don't think the script was set with any clear goals of what kind of film it was trying to be.
I couldn't tell if Willard understood the morals that he would break, or if he was ever insane or not. I couldn't tell if Willard's boss, Frank (R. Lee Ermey), loved or hated him. We see Frank meet with Willard's lawyer, concerning the plot-line of Willard selling his house to Frank, but I couldn't tell if there was evil collusion or not. I couldn't tell if co-worker Cathryn (Laura Elena Harring) had a bizarre pity obsession with Willard, or whether Cathryn or Willard had any love interest what-so-ever.
I don't know why Willard did many of the things he did. I'd have to go into spoilers to specify. For those who've already seen Willard, I'll ask you one spoiler question here below in white text. I'd love a reply if you know the answer: Why did Willard kill most of his rats?

Pretty good movie. Great sequel. Not as good as Matt Damon's other Bourne movies but still good. Loved the addition of the beautiful Alicia Vikander who was in Ex Machina. 4/5

It was OK. I laughed a few times but felt like the movie was just average. Nowhere near as bad or as good as certain groups of people claim. I thought Kate McKinnon was great in it. 3/5

Final Destination 3
It's hard to decide between Scream and Final Destination as being my favourite horror series/franchise - the first Scream is much better than any Final Destination movie, but I enjoy the FD sequels to the Scream sequels. Anyhow, I love this film. I think the whole FD series is underrated, you just gotta learn not to take it too seriously. 10/10.

Ya, Scream relayed horror movie tropes as an integral part of the film. A sequel is counter-intuitive. It's like wanting to watch alternate takes of the same film, as a whole 90 min film, after you saw the first.
Speaking of Glen Morgan... Final Destination 3 = 10/10? I'm going to have to check it out. I was impressed with the direction and production value of the first. Which Final Destination had a semi speeding toward someone in the middle of the highway crawling out their car? I saw that in a preview.

Just watch 'em all. Some are to be taken less serious but there all good entertainment. And the kills make it all worth.
I wouldn't mind more sequels as long as they switch up the locations.

Batman: The Killing Joke (2016)
https://s32.postimg.org/otisspoo5/BKJ.jpg
The late 80s original graphic novel was one of the most fan favorite & talked about Batman-Joker stories to the comic book lovers. It was dark, disturbing & brilliantly written that wonderfully explores Joker's philosophy of being an evil & unpredictable bad guy character where all the way down he viciously tries to prove his point - 'one bad day is enough to turn a regular good man into a very bad one'. So it was an exciting news for the fans like me when WB & DC animation announced that they were going to adapt it with most popular & beloved voice actors like Kevin Conroy & Mark Hamill reprising their respective iconic voice roles of Bruce Wayne/Batman and the Joker. Over the years, WB has produced some great DC Animated films along with few weak entries but I think most of the fans were granted for sure that THE KILLING JOKE is going to be one of the best animated films ever made (along with Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Batman: Under the Red Hood or The Dark Knight Returns). But guess what...it actually turned out one of the worst DC adaptations that they have done so far! If I even overlook or forget about the unnecessary & lame prologue of Batgirl that consumes the first 30 minutes of this film, it still remains a lifeless, dull & disjoint animated feature. The problem was everywhere! First of all, the animation work; it terribly fails to connect with the thought-provoking & emotional dramatic contents of the story & most notably Joker's some of the greatest lines in comic book history, even at times Batman kinda walks or moves like a Robot! The film also heavily lacks proper background scores & sound in most of the scenes that I think also contributed to make it felt like a dull animated feature. It just jumps from this scene to that scene and than it ends. I know it's unbelievable but surprisingly Kevin Conroy's voice work also sounded like he wasn't somehow ready or wanted to play his part this time!
You can find a motion comic video in youtube about this same Killing Joke story and believe me...those guys even done it in a far better & convincing way; sad to say this but it seems WB should have taken some notes from them about how to adapt this challenging tale into an animation.

Really enjoyed this one. Blind vet moves to retirement community and they have a werewolf problem. Sounds cheesy, but I actually found it to be a really good and entertaining movie. Not too many movies about lycanthropy, except for a few classics, that are all that great. Worth checking out, recommended especially to werewolf fans.

Evolution (2015)
https://s32.postimg.org/pebq5yk05/Evol.jpg
It could have been a rare modern masterpiece, IMO if they could have put little more explanations about what's actually really going on in that island?!
**MINOR SPOILER WARNING**
The film indeed offers a very unique set up with a beautiful sea side European island [kinda reminded me of that island in Who Can Kill a Child? (1976)] inhabited only by a great bunch of weird women & young boys but what goes around there was the main intriguing as well as surprising aspect of this slow burn, mysterious French sci-fi/horror. All those women who are acting like their mother even once do this very weird orgy sort of ritual in the beach at the middle of the night and those boys gradually becomes subject to a series of strange experiments or treatments where it seems they were using them in a some sort of reproductive procedure for what knows what the hell (!?!) ...(or what those creepy human baby like things were doing with Nicholus in the tank?!...they were feeding by him?!?). And like those, there were a good deal of interesting issues & questions left unanswered. May be it is one of those kind of films that actually demands to be interpreted in a metaphorical way with a more careful viewing but despite it was beautifully shot & initially felt quite dark & promising, eventually frustrated me at the end for being too ambiguous & weird, without providing much hints to interpret it or made some sense about the whole affair.
At one point I was thinking may be it would going to reveal that those women are actually mermaid or siren sort of creatures and they need or steals human baby and raise them to a certain age to sacrifice them in order to give birth of their own child that they become unable to do for some weird natural change or curse or whatever!

The Childhood of a Leader (2015)
http://i64.tinypic.com/212z31e.jpg
The official or IMDB plot synopsis goes like this..."This chilling fable about the rise of fascism in the 20th Century tells the story of a young American boy living in France in 1918 whose father is working for the US government on the creation of the Treaty of Versailles. What he witnesses helps to mould his beliefs - and we witness the birth of a terrifying ego. Loosely inspired by the early childhood experiences of many of the great dictators of the 20th Century and infused with the same sense of dread as The Others and The Omen, The Childhood of a Leader is an ominous portrait of emerging evil."
So I was expecting something like a serious or interesting take on the Evil Child sub-genre of horror. But it was actually nothing like that. Moreover, I really felt sad for that talented kid...neither parent got much time for him, his best friend was the head maid and most importantly there wasn't any sign or indications that they revealed in the film which could make or inspire such a normal, spoiled kid to eventually grows up and become an "evil" leader at the end. And another misleading thing was the background score...sometime it was just manipulative and pretentious; make you feel like something terrible or interesting thing(s) going to happen but when there was nothing actually happens most of the time at the end of a scene(s).
Only good things about the movie were the cast & the production values.

The Visit -
The trailer for this was very good. And I heard a few comments about it being a return to good M. Night Shyamalan movies. Although now thinking about it, I think he only has like one or two good movies. He's pretty much the master of getting people to watch his movies for the twist. I did think The Visit was an ok movie though. If you said it was made by a first time director or as a film school project, I would say it's a very good movie. But a movie by an established Hollywood director? It's kind of a let down then. Even the twist is kind of small compared to what you might be thinking from the trailer and during the movie. Actually one of the best parts is thinking about all the scenes with the grandparents and then how obvious the twist is afterwards because of their behavior.
Unnatural -
I think someone here reviewed this movie. They said it was bad. I looked at the short run time and it is a snow horror movie, which I like. So I thought why not? But this is one of those movies that even though short seem long because they are so bad and boring. There are really only a few good scenes in the movie and they all involve the bikini girls. This is a movie that I'm sure if anyone likes horror movies and knows the good ones, if they read the Unnatural script, they would have said rewrite this mess or definitely not gone on to produce it. I guess some of the cast is good but I assume they just needed a paycheck. There is also something I've never seen at the end of this movie. The credits have a "Very Special Thanks" at the end with names in big text. Larger than the actors names I think. I guess these people helped finance the movie and really wanted to work with Hollywood people. But I guess they didn't know good horror movies as if they read the script they would not have funded this movie.
Eli Roth Double Feature
The Green Inferno -
I was looking forward to this one and it was even more out there than I thought it was going to be. I remmeber when I was young thinking there was a very dangerous and maybe even sinister element to those natives at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I always called them "Naked Booty Men." Well here we get to see it. This is a shocking horror movie. I'm surprised it didn't get beyond an R rating. I haven't seen the original movie that inspired this one yet. I will eventually. But this is the best horror movie from Eli Roth that I've seen. It's not something I would own. But it's very worth a watch for horror fans.
Aftershock -
I was surprised to see almost the same cast in this movie. I guess they filmed Aftershock and Green Inferno close together or some kind of deal was in place. When I checked the wiki I was also surprised to find out this movie was based on actual events. Which is sickening when you get towards the end of the movie. I didn't like this one that much. With The Green Inferno, there was more setup and storyline. Here it's just people on vacation and disaster strikes. I didn't like the group of characters they portrayed here and even more disgusting characters show up later in the movie. There was only one character I liked and they gave her a skeleton in her closet to make her not what she seemed. Or at least give her a reason to be like that. It's like the movie has a anti-humanity or other theme going on right down to its ending which I hated. It's a true downer movie to me and I would only watch this one if you like those city disaster type movies.

After a massive power outage, two sisters learn to survive on their own in their isolated woodland home.
Solid performances from Wood and Page, and the movie relies heavily on this. I was always expecting more horror to happen due to the front cover. Instead it was more of a character piece about the relationship between the two sisters.
The actual practicalities of survival were minimal. I felt an impending threat from others, but that never really comes, so I was left feeling a bit unsatisfied. Good performance from the leads though.

Funny and surprisingly suspenseful teen thriller. It has some good twists and likable characters to make it better than your average teen flick. There's also some nice social commentary, but it gets way too forced towards the end. The whole concept is completely ridiculous, so your enjoyment of this movie depends on whether or not you'll be willing to give yourself away to the premise. If you can get past the more ridiculous aspects of the game, you'll like it.

Just Buried - fun if you liked "Pushing Daisies"
Flaws - Intentionally bad, low budget "Jaws" parody with a killer pool sweeper
Lights Out - had some good ideas, but didn't really work.
Ghosthunters - when the bad guy wears a mask, you know it's one of the other characters. When there are only two male actors in the movie, it's not hard to find the bad guy.

The less you know about the story the better!
All you need to know is that it's about people with psychokinetic powers, there's an evil doctor and lots of Scanners moments.
The good:
It's set in the early 90's, the musical score reminded me of Terminator and other 80's movies, great looking blood and gore, good effects, some scenes reminded me of Stuart Gordon movies,...
The bad:
The story/script was a little bit weak in places, couple of dumb decision moments, the cast could've been a little better and there was something else but I can't put my finger on it.
Anyway, I still recommend it.

Tries hard to be cool, like it was made by marketing whores.
Anti-heros trying to be cool, tough, sexy, crude, inappropriate and funny. If you like that, you'll like the film.
Decent SFX. Rather light in action , which I generally prefer, but both the action and story were very clique (though the brother-witch destruction design was very cool). The portrayals of Harley Quin and The Joker were spirited, but seemed rather wasted on a film with nothing to say... well, except, "you can be antisocially criminally cool and still love one person". It's like this film was created by marketers/advertisers (Bill Hicks would hurl).
Of the "hip" anti-hero genre, Deadpool was far superior in all respects. As a superhero film, there's no character substantially likeable, unless, you'll forgive me for saying, you have the mind of a 12-year-old.

This movie just appeared to me like something that thinks it's a lot edgier and cooler than it actually is. I heard it barely deserves its PG-13 rating too. At least Deadpool actually was as irreverent and crazy as it advertised itself as even if it's not a perfect movie. I don't plan on seeing this one.

Initially I thought they were going to adapt 2014 Batman animated flick Assault on Arkham for the big screen this time which offers more or less the same characters but a different plot where Joker was the main antagonist and Batman appears as the final savior! I enjoyed that one. Anyway, with a different villain and set up, DC-WB's this 3rd major installment wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be (particularly, after even looking at the headlines on some of the recent critic reviews i.e. 'worse than Fant4stic'!). But that doesn't mean it was good either; just an okay, time-passing but at the end forgettable average flick for DC-WB collaboration. The villain(s) and the final showdown were the major disappointments as well as the way they put Joker into the story was a big letdown, IMO.

"The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test."
Another great addition to the reboot series. Not quite as good as the previous two installments, Into Darkness being my personal favorite, but it's very action-packed and exciting. The story is simple and feels a lot like an episode from the series, which is a good thing. It's fun, not pretentious and has incredible special effects. One of the few good mindless summer blockbusters this year.

Dread
I.M.D.B. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1331307/)
Three college students set out to document what other people dread most
The performances weren't strong enough to carry this movie in which very little happens for the first 60 mins or so. When it finally got to where it was going, it wasn't strong enough to justify the wait. Better performances and better dialogue, or more action/horror throughout were needed to make this worth watching. A more convincing/stronger friendship between the two guys would have elevated this movie.

(I'm a bit backed up in posting reviews, so this might get a touch lengthy...)
Crocodile
It says “from the director of ‘Poltergeist’ and ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’”, so right away this has high expectations. The photoshop cover looks like shit though so I already have my doubts. So far I haven’t been proven wrong. The story isn’t at all exciting with a bunch of punks having a vacation at the lake.
The croc shows itself very early with terrible CGI, there are some visual effects like a head and tail prop almost right after, but the illusion is pretty much dead now. Despite the fun of pointless gore, I wish that scene wasn’t included, it might have saved us SOME suspense. Or at the very least played down some. Even the blood looks like discount Kool-Aid.
The second kill scene is almost as bad. Very brief and obvious CGI. Horror movies need to learn that ‘jump scares =/= scary’. Take the time to make your effects look believable, the more believable a movie the more drawn in we get and the more likely to actually feel fear for/with the characters. Good characters help too btw. All the ones I’ve seen so far are either complete dicks or Mary Sue garbage.
The croc foolishly makes itself known on an easy attack, and continues to make itself known as it follows two of the morons up river to the house boat that the rest of the group is on. The next death scene that follows is actually fairly good, but how the fuck does a croc destroy a house boat… Was it made of bailer twine and straw?
What’s hilarious though is right after the croc is known, I wonder ‘okay how long til one of these idiots goes in the water?’ It was almost immediate. Instead of walking off the boat onto land (which at this point is run aground), they jump in the water to get away from the boat… WHY. By SOME idiot miracle none of them get ate.
Sheriff starts finding body parts and consults a couple of local yocals who have some gators, and inform him what he’s after. A croc out of an Egyptian legend… I don’t think this takes place in Egypt… By the look of the people and sound of their accents it sounds very American based. So wtf is with the Egyptian angle?
I hate all these kids so fucking much. They piss and whine which is understandable in their situation, but they scream at each other and don’t work together to help their situation at all. Why would these people even vacation together if they talk like they hate each other?
When the croc is finally shown in full body to chase the kids through the brush… I wish I had more hands to cover my face. When your CGI makes SCIFI look good, that’s a sign to just stop.
Group makes their way into a closed store, croc breaks in and murders some more and sets the place ablaze. One of them gets injured so they carry him in a wheelbarrow. Resourceful. Like when he starts shrieking in their ears about how terrible they’re doing and they could easily just tip him over down a hill or in the river for the croc to finish off.
They make their way to the river where the cop and Crocodile Dundee’s wimpy cousin find them. The croc follows them in the boat, and the redneck in succession makes two stupid mistakes in succession. One by stopping the boat to use a gun that doesn’t even scratch it, and two he didn’t follow his own advice when he tells everyone to grab something when she goes under the boat. Just how fucking stupid… And then for some reason does a Free Willy leap over the boat?! Cop tries to fix the boat and gets ate.
Our number is down to three, and the female of the group is carrying around a backpack this whole time. As if that wasn’t stupid enough, they FINALLY discover one of the croc’s eggs was in it the whole time, causing the crock to chase them. They decide to make a trap with it, which just goes to shit. Mostly because of more terrible CGI. Luckily for the three stooges the egg starts to hatch, the girl gives it back, and the croc decides to take her baby and let them live.
TLDR; In short I’ll be taking this back to Goodwill.
But hey at least the dog lived. Even if it was small and annoying and I wouldn’t have actually cared for once if it was eaten.
-
Anaconda
This movie is apparently so good that ‘Komodo’ feels it will give them a leg up in sales as they mention it on the cover. When two of your biggest stars are a rapper and Owen Wilson though… Yikesssss…
First thing the movie does is give us some text on the snakes in question. That they are the largest and most aggressive of snakes, and that they will regurgitate food just to kill and eat again. I don’t know where they’re getting such a violent description of the animal. For one if an anaconda sees a human it will turn tail and swim away (as they are usually found in water), that doesn’t exactly sound ‘aggressive’ to me. And if they avoid humans, I don’t think it would want to eat one. More anacondas are killed by humans than humans killed by anacondas actually, and I can’t find a single human death by an anaconda, not even an attack by one. From what I can find, any injuries acquired by the large snakes are obtained by trying to research them, and causing them to act out of self-defense. Just wanted to point that shit out.
That said, the movie itself wasn’t bad. Some CGI of course but it wasn’t the worst I’ve seen.
-
Tremors 3
As sequels go, this one holds up quite well. My only complaint really is all the unnecessary CGI. You know your effects department is really fucking lazy when they have to CGI in DIRT. Fucking. DIRT. Come on!!

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
When it comes to Freddy vs. Jason, I go team Jason every time. ...But even I felt insulted watching this remake. I should hope Robert England does too. This wasn't NoES, this was Harry Potter, with Nancy vs Voldemort!!
-
Komodo
The story and characters were SO DULL. Which sucks since they had the talent of the special effects creator of Jurassic Park to help make this movie at least decent.
-
Joy Ride
Rusty Nail is underrated as a serial killer.
-
VHS 2
I was introducing a friend who's into zombies to the best zombie story of all time.

Devil's Pass
I love the creatures in this.

A secret government agency recruits a group of imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency, which inevitably leads to chaos.
Mediocre. Characters were fun but most of them were barely given any time; should have taken screen time away from Will Smith to round out the other characters. Action sequences were uninspired and didn't make use of the team's skills. All the fighting was 'they punch or shoot boring enemies for a bit'. Even Enchantress resorts to punching for a bit. Another uninspired, lackluster superhero movie.

Yeah, it's still a well-made movie with good acting, sets, costumes, sound etc. I didn't find myself getting bored. I would recommend giving it a watch, because it's an enjoyable movie, as most of these superhero movies of late are. It's also disappointing (so much more could have been done with these interesting characters), lackluster (the action sequences are incredibly generic and uninteresting), and mediocre (I don't feel it adds anything interesting to a genre of movies that I feel is fast becoming over-saturated in similarity.)
For me, this can go in the 'meh, I was entertained but it's not a very good movie' pile, along with:
7/10 superhero movies:
Age of Ultron, The First Avenger, Thor, Iron Man 3, Amazing Spiderman, Ant-Man, Man of Steel.
For comparison...here are my 8/10 rating superhero movies:
Civil War, Batman vs Superman Extended, Guardians of the Galaxy (9/10), Avengers, X-Men First Class, Deadpool.

The latest "Star Trek".
It was ok.
Felt somehow lacking compared to the first two...a bit like a direct-to-dvd sequel I found.
It's a fun movie, and again captures the ST universe quite well.
Seems like the cast might be getting a bit sick of their roles or something.
Bad Guy motivation was lacking...and there was a very big plot hole there...
Great effects. The space stuff felt like a slight step backwards though.
Karl Urban continues to nail his character more than anyone.
Too bad Chekov was more or less a background character in Antons last outing as the character.
Hm. I'll probably buy it to add to my collection...just wasn't amazed.

Bloodier, higher body count, more action - it hits the traditional marks of a sequel. It gives more information into the killer and his collection - all of which are suitably interesting. I missed the suspense of the first movie, and the run-time was a little short. It could have done with another 10 or 20 mins spent weaving suspense into the story. A good addition to the first movie though, and a great ending. Recommended.

"The Uninvited" with Emily Browning is the remake of this movie. Of course, the original film is much better. Although, I have to admit, that this movie is more drama than horror.

An experiment in genetic engineering turns harmless sheep into blood-thirsty killers that terrorize a sprawling New Zealand farm.
As well made as a movie about killer sheep can be I guess, at least in terms of the monsters. Unfortunately it relies on the absurdity of the premise alone to carry the movie. The script isn't particularly funny, nothing much interesting really happens, and the acting isn't great.

Shark Lake
Only one star on Netflix... Surely it can't be THAT bad.
The opening tries its best to keep you interested with a chase scene and some cops and robbers. Up til about a third through it was half decent. There was a story with some decent drama, okay characters, the underwater lake shots are so gorgeous I'm sure they were actually taken in the Caribbean, and the build up to the shark was actually good. Then we get our big reveal too early, and CGI makes its reveal. It all just goes to shit from there. The characters turned bland the story turned bland the scares were nonexistent, this thing deserves one fucking star.

A pretty well done movie. Well shot, good acting, fun premise. Other than the initial moment of them entering the cage, I never really felt suspense or dread. And I think this came from the lack of reality regarding the sharks. They were ridiculously aggressive. Even though the CGI was good enough, I never believed the sharks were real, because they didn't behave like normal sharks. Same could be said of most shark movies of course. It was an entertaining movie, but not great.

Tarzan, having acclimated to life in London, is called back to his former home in the jungle to investigate the activities at a mining encampment.
Entertaining enough. Some distractedly bad CGI. A few dubious lines of dialogue. Tarzan himself was a pretty boring, brooding character. Also, his constant flexing was very distracting. He's in great shape, he doesn't need to tense all the time. But every shirtless shot he behaves like it's a photo-shoot. Also - dodgy English accent that comes and goes. Entertaining, empty, mindless popcorn movie.

"A sausage strives to discover the truth about his existence."
Fairly funny spoof of Pixar movies. It has funny characters and a surprisingly good story that shows even spoofing the Pixar formula can work (if all of Pixar was on bath salts). It also has a lot to say about religion, race, politics and sexuality. The themes are certainly not subtle, but I don't think subtlety was what they were going for. It wasn't the funniest movie ever, but I still liked the risks they took and the unique and strange vibe the movie had.

A real martial artist needs no eyes to see, IDIOT!
I was going to use the scene of when he is screaming because he can't see, that part is funny as hell.

B/C
Decent enough and not boring or anything but it felt quite average.
Spoilers
"-His bosses creating a hassle about him going undercover was unnecessary. Would've worked just as well if it was a regular job with all his superiors in agreement.
-So his former skinhead buddies don't bother him or anything after the job's finished? The mean drunk know where he lives. The militia guys probably too."

Yeah I was disappointed in that one. :(
Just watched "The Invitation" on Netflix last night and loved it. Good weird slow burn with a satisfying conclusion.

Slashed Dreams
starring Robert Englund.
I do not recommend watching this film. I thought it was going to be about some evil dream demon judging by the title and that it had Robert Englund in it. IT WAS TERRIBLE!
Robert Englund was some random normal guy that made an appearence at the end of the bloody film. The only thing in the movie that even came anywhere close to horror was a bloody rape scene (WHICH I SKIPPED!). The film had plot holes and it was really short it was like sixty five minutes or something. I have never been so disappointed in my entire life!
I'm giving the film -0

Yeah. Bad cgi, over acting, bad dialogue, seeing the future ruining for the viewer what was going to happen. Obviously edited for tv commercials.
Yeah I was surprised by The Invitation. Yes, excellent ending.

I FINALLY saw The Witch and it blew me away. I was enthralled from the opening frame and it just kept getting better. It's subtle when it needs to be and quite dramatic when the moment calls for such. The gritty, grey look of the picture helps set the mood perfectly. I do love any movie that entertains me and leaves me asking questions after, and that sums up The Witch to a T! I was completely captivated by this film and I can't wait to see it again. I'm just sorry I waited this long to check it out.

A guy got a job from a mysterious client & went to an abandoned building to do this 'watch & report' assignment about an estranged woman living across the street and then gradually things get weird & weird as it reveals that the job's not that simple & easy as he thought initially....this premise sounds quite interesting and at some point I was expecting a twisted and different take on devil worshiper or demonic possession sort of a story but it didn't turn out that way; I was fine but still expecting something original & twisted. Thing is slow pace was never an issue for me regarding enjoying a movie as long as I get the story & its relatable characters but here I just really didn't get it at all! WTF was it all about or what's going on actually or happened for WTF reason?! Perhaps I missed couple of "clues" but it was all just a frustrating & dull experience.
Btw, it was a torrent download.

Within a limited budget, this is a pretty decently done love letter to Carpenter's The Thing (a better homage than Blood Glacier, IMO)! But don't expect any shape shifting creature in it...the story follows a group of archaeologists when they uncover a mysterious stone structure buried in the snow. The structure bears some archaic engravings that the crew attempt to decipher. As they further delve into the structure's origins, things at camp turn sour. Communications go out, local workers hired to dig around the structure suddenly disappears, and the men are stricken with not only a terrible illness but also distrust and paranoia!!

Split Second (1992) - found an old favorite on Hulu. Yes, I know the plot makes no sense, but it has Rutger Hauer, Kim Cattrall, and a big scary monster.
Nemesis (1992) - Hulu picked this as a follow up to Split Second. Good choice if "Big Trouble in Little China" isn't available.
I well enjoyed Split Second.

The movie was really stupid, and not scary at all. The zombies look like they had eggs sunny side up for eyes.
