But it has Monica Keena. She always turns in funny bad performances. The movie does sound like a SyFy deal on imdb.

Decent enough until they tried to pull off a Se7en-esque twist at the end. And the post-climax sequence was just awful. Watch if you have nothing else to see.

ROSHIQ! I FINALLY saw it!! :-P
LOL - I was actually really entertained by this movie for the first 3/4ths of it (ok, fine, roll your eyes now) - Good gimmicks with the hand-held camera and I actually really liked the meta approach of a team going in to prove that the first movie was real (though, to be quite honest - If I truly believed that the first movie was real and corporeal ghosts haunted the halls of the asylum, I WOULDN'T WANT TO GO IN THERE. But that's just me).
Ultimately, though, the end was really awful and it dragged on. Also, no real new ground here but I really appreciate the effort - There was an attempt to bring it somewhere slightly new.

In a word: Disappointed. I thought that the first 1/3 of the movie was very good; I liked to see Jamie Lanister outside of being the King Slayer (heh - Geek insides showing), and I thought that Mama was genuinely threatening... However...
--- Dude. The youngest girl couldn't sleep in a bed and was eating bugs - THERE IS NO WAY SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL.
--- The doctor bothered me with whatever evil sub plot, purposefully ambiguous research he had - It was just unbelievable to me.
--- I had a hard time sympathizing for the girlfriend because she was just really bitchy to the girls; I know that she was taking care of them for her comatose Jamie Lanister but she was just mean to them - Made the scenes where she connected with her to be a bit unbelievable.
--- The ending was just awful. Awful. I'm really not a fan of ghosts that can be satiated, but I would have been happier if Mama had taken her dead baby corpse... Instead the particularly ANNOYING child called out and was taken away (which I honestly didn't care about but regardless it was soooo dissatisfying).

Watched Antiviral. The apple must fall very far away from the tree because this had to be one of the most overstylized pieces of crap I've ever seen. I"m all for stylistic movies, but it should be subtle and not forced, otherwise it comes off as pretentious. The overall story isnt bad, but having to endure all the film/art school visual nonsense and the terrible lead actor make it maddening.

Star Trek Into Darkness" (2013)
-Chris Pine
Plot:
After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction
Phantom's Review: I loved it. I've been a Trek fan since the sixties, so I'm no newbie fan boy, and I thought this film was a blast. Great FX, fine performances, and an interesting plot (loosely based on a classic series Episode). A very entertaining film.
"Iron Man Three" (2013)
-Robert Downey Jr
Plot: IMDB
When Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution.
Phantom's Review: I enjoyed it. I still think the original film is the best, but I found this film to be very entertaining. Good FX and action with some fine performances.

2001 Maniacs (2005)
This is a lot different of that The original and this movie a lot more campy then I thought it was going to be and Don't think The original was even that campy, it did feel a little bit more serious.
This movie filled was filled a number of annoying horny teenagers (Who can not act to save their lives, really wooden acting form this youngers) found it town and course just like The original they killed one by one.
The kills in this movie, was a lot more gory in this remake, I really liked some of the death in scenes movie and some of have just a little funny as well
I didn't mind how they changed the ending of movie a little but preferred The original ending better, I just found ending to be really funny, I felt like I watching wrong turn movie.
And some parts of the movie, not all, The scripts was really poor at times, it just the stuff these people were just right for things that happen in those scenes.

I Saw What You Did (1988)
This actually a TV remake, The plot some-what the same but there a lot different from movies.
This was felt little more face paced the the older black and white movie but I didn't really find any of these movie that creepy at the whole.
First i just found some of the script in this movie was ever weak, Some lines in this movie don't make sense at all. I Know it TV movie, Come on.
The acting in this movie was not that good at all, I thought everyone acting in this movie very wooden from most of the cast.
I not sure what to think of that cheap ending at all if wanted to get scared of that it was wrong done and it didn't work, I found that last scenes really silly.
Not near as good as The original
As this was TV remake there are rumors of yet another remake of this.
The Blob (1988)
Now this is what you call a great remake, I didn't think it would be as good as the old one but WOW.
I liked liked how this movie kind of change some of the story, and this blob was a lot more scary and Gooey-er .
The effect in this movies, I so great, I was shocked at almost every deaths scenes in this movie, loved each one.
Also liked how they some scenes from original and made it their own at the same time.
I wasn't to keen on ending, I just that was not need in this movie.
Great fun movie, Awesome remake
9 out of 10 ,
I spit on your Grave (2010)
I not really sure what to make of this movie, well I did think it would be a lot better then the original.
I didn't think the original was great but it did have it moment in the the movie but me this remake to felt a little bland, I mostly bored though tout the whole movie.
I felt the build to rape was far to long and very boring, the rape scenes was still hard to watch but I didn't think it was as effecting as the original and I didn't really how they kind of adding bad cop to mix, felt like more Texas chainsaw series think to do.
I not sure make of the boys who were forced to do what he did, I we meant to forgive because getting these flashbacks and seeing the girl, I could give a Toss about how feel, he what he did, end of , I not going to even think of feel sorry for him.
The kills in this movie, were nasty and times but they took way to long on the deaths scenes, took away the shock or gross factor they wanted to have but I think failed in both.
I think the bathtub death in original was more shocking then brutal in original, you don't get anything like that in this movie, someone dose the same way in this remake but not shocking enough to gross out and he not in bathtub
The main probably for me was the made lead actress, I just could not connect with her at all, I could not feel sorry for me, I don't know it was really bad acting she was doing, the most of scene felt really forced and the some of weakest moment are the kills scene.
I didn't really fact the movie ending seconds after last death scenes, I wish we had bit more for ending, a lot build at start, which bored and then rushed up ending.

Watched all of these to get psyched for Fast and Furious 6. All of these movies are a lot of fun and one thing i really like about them is that they evolve. They didnt just stay about cars and racing, they developed into working undercover to take down smugglers, to a karate kid type high school story, a revenge story, a heist story and finally just one big action flick.

The sixth one i especially liked, this one had the best villain, the best action scenes, a lot of well placed humor and a good story. I also like how they finally connected the rest of the series with Tokyo Drift because that was getting confusing. This series hasn't lost any steam with me. Here's how i rank them.
Fast Five
Fast and Furious 6
The Fast and The Furious
Fast and Furious
2 Fast 2 Furious

Dragged in places and I felt the film lacked something. I haven't read the books yet so can't comment on how much the makers deviated from the original material but it all felt a bit wooden. Most sequences involving the lead actress will remind you of Robin Tunney from The Craft, but that was a much better film than this one.
The supporting cast did their bit and Jeremy Irons/Emma Thompson shone in their roles, but the lead was too lacklustre. The effects were nice and involving, but the climax was too quick and lacked bite.
Watch if you have nothing else to see.

Freaky Friday (1976)
The first half hour of the movie is about Jodie as, she very messy slob for 13 year old girl and she does not think she looks that good but I don't think she really cared.
She and and mother seem argue a lot and they both seem to watch swap places with each other and this happpens at the same but in not in same room.
I wasn't keen with the effect of switch, it did bother me a little but got over cause rest of the movie was hoot, out of 3 freaky Friday movies this one had me laughing the most.
I didn't really find first half hour of movie funny but when the switch happens and movies keeps you laughing at every turn and some of jokes are really silly at times but those are mainly for kids not saying adult won't like, there a plenty of good jokes for the whole famiily to enjoy.
I can't remember the last times laughed so much one movie, I thought this movie was absolutely hilarious, it had laughing to very last scene of the movie.
This is best of 3 for sure and the most funniest, 8 out of 10
Freaky Friday (1995)
Well before (2003 remake) there was another TV remake movie, that i don't think many people know about it as much as lattes remake.
This movie i felt it a little more serious and I didn't think this was that funny and girl when this movie 15 years old and really that her mum not paying that much attention to her.
While the mum got huge meeting to a work, we cost them their job and as to fire someone at work place and look after her family.
When this movie their dad brought over some kind neck less but mum and daughter and they holding the neck less and they both wished to swap places,
I liked how they change in second and they were next each other in the car, I found that very decent and I thought that maybe the best switch of the 3 movies.
I felt the movie tried way to hard to really funny but failed and as comedey felt really forced at times, I liked they were other people who also knew in this movie, (Which kind of makes this remake on his own)
I wish was more clearer when switch back but I could not really tell in this movie but there not last joke scenes in this movie, which I thought would be, I was little disappointing by that
5 out of 10
Freaky Friday (2003)
In this second remake of (1976) movie, when there not 13 or 15 year old girl this remake as 17 year old girl (Each remake to girl see to two years older then last last, (Next remake Girl going 19 lol)
The girl this is 17 year old and lazy for her ages and can't to get up and does seem to well on work and she dose not like this girl who used to be Friends with her .
In this movie the Mum who planning her wedding to her new husband and that care of her self and own family and other work stuff.
A night they go to Chinese restaurant and mother and daugher come to another arugement which is notice by one of workers, who give them both Cookie and open the cookie and read it and feel earthquake but it only them to who felt it,
that night when clock hits midnight they both change of over and Tess is the first one to wake in her Anna bed room and soon finds she her daughters room and body,
I did find this remake to little be more funnier then first remake, there were some really good decent jokes in this movie but this movie didn't really feel like it was for whole family to enjoy, I some of boys would not most of jokes in this movie and I didn't get some of jokes my self.
This movie had me laughing in some places but not all the times, I liked how they tired to recapture the last scenes of first movie again and I did laugh but it was little to silly, I liked that nod to first one.
Not as good as 1976 but a little better then 1995 one.

I enjoyed it for what it was. Loved the opening credits and the first 20 minutes which had the retro, B/W, normal 4:3 resolution start, which was sort of like a homage to the '39 original. And then the slow transformation to wonderful, vibrant colors and full digital resolution was simply delightful. The CGI effects were outstanding, making the land of Oz look more vibrant than it ever has been. Some of the effects, like the waterfalls and the small video-game like sequences were absolutely stunning.
***BEWARE OF POSSIBLE SPOILERS***
The problem, inherently, lies with the story. I couldn't decide if this was a prequel, or a re-imagining, or simply a story inspired by Baum's books. It was distressing to see main characters either completely disappeared, or thrown about in subtle hints (homages) here and there (the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow). And my major grouse - I absolutely hated what they did with the Wicked Witch, because Mila Kunis, in all her glamour and radiance, was horribly miscast, and l didn't like the Green Goblin-esque candor of the transformed Wicked Witch. Seemed like Raimi wanted that part to be an ode to his first Spider-Man film for some odd reason.
James Franco seemed like an odd choice for the titular role, with his unimpressive voice. Someone like Johnny Depp would have absolutely nailed this one. Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams do their parts faithfully, but the miscast Mila Kunis was absolutely wasted in her role. She didn't suit the transformation either, making her looking a lot chubbier than she usually is.
***END OF SPOILERS***
Overall, an enjoyable timepass. If you are an ardent fan of Baum's Oz books, you might find this one glaringly inappropriate. I say, stick to the '39 original - it's the best of the lot. Even the 80s sequel has it's moments. Watch this one if you have absolutely nothing else to do. If not, skip.
P.S. - Missed Dorothy and the Tin Man, terribly, although the Bruce Campbell cameo was a nice touch.
Rating - 05/10

Incredibly entertaining - I especially liked the first 2/3rds, comprised of the incredibly elaborate parties - Luhrmann definitely captured the excess and glam of the time - The costumes, the music - all really entrancing (Gershwin being played with FIREWORKS ERUPTING!) - Then you're reminded that this is actually based on the great American novel and, unfortunately, when it comes down to telling the actual story, the movie drags (which is too bad as Gatsby was one of my favorites) - Luhrmann just couldn't really strike a balance. DiCaprio was fun to watch and I thought that Elizabeth Debicki was incredible as Jordan and Joel Edgerton was a perfect Tom Buchanon... And while we're at it, I think I should mention that Carey Mulligan really breathes life into Daisy... I think it ended with a bit of a whimper, though...

Took me a while to finally see this, after it was recommended by quite a few people on this board... I was really impressed with it. After enduring so many remakes and rehashes of the same territory, it was really refreshing to see a movie blend sub-genres like this - What I really liked about it is that you have what seems like a pretty worn formula (hitmen) that goes in a very bizarre, absurd, and interesting direction. My fiance wasn't a fan of the ending, but I liked it quite a bit. I haven't figured it out exactly (will have to do some Internetting to get thoughts - Also, if you have an opinion, I'd love to hear it), but I did like this movie.

HA! Inadvertently caught another Jamie Lannister vehicle! I had no idea he had a career out of being The Kingslayer (or that he is Danish). He was great to watch.
So here's the thing - I've been recommended this movie a few times and I can see why people like it, but I found it just OK - Our main character isn't very likable so I wasn't sure whether or not to cheer for him and, ultimately I didn't really care about his fate. Also, it had a lot of twists-with-twists endings which just got silly after a while.

Not a good day to painfully watch one of your favorite action heroes get reduced to a geriatric wheezer mumbling "I am on vacation" umpteen times as a complaint, indirectly saying "why the hell do they persist on making more of these movies?"
If that wasn't enough, we have our favorite McClane get a sidekick (okay, son) as if he needed one, more than his walking stick. A laugh out loud moment when he refers to his son as "James Bond". Truly, there wasn't a more kicked down character.
Add to that a wafer-thin plot with a ridiculous twist, half the movie in Russian which is really painful to the ears, a gorgeous babe cut down to action sequences only, and a super-cool, mindless chase down the streets of Moscow. John Moore might think that the audiences around the world are stupid enough to lap anything going "Boom! Boom!" with McClane's name plastered on it, but sorry sir, we are not THAT stupid.
What's next? Die Hard 6: The McClane Clan, McClane: The Die Hard Effect or something similarly-titled ridiculous monstrosity for part 6, with McClane teaming up with his grandkids? No, thanks.
Bring back a passably coherent plot, an acceptable sidekick (remember Samuel L Jackson in part 3?), a hated/spiteful enough villain (those stopped from part 3 as well), and the franchise might gather some steam. Could we have Justin Lin come over and do a Fast & Furious thingy with this franchise as well?
Otherwise, Die Hard is pretty much Dead Hard, forever.

Finally a film I can like and appreciate for bringing some likeability to it. A superbly taut storyline (swear I could see this coming out of a Robin Cook novel), some excellent performances to boot and direction which keeps the pace just about right after it's initial buildup, just like a Hitchcockian brew. Without giving anything away, I can say this much safely - this is one of the best medical thrillers I have seen in quite some time.
And just one word on Rooney Mara - she's absolutely mind-blowing. If she chooses the right roles, I can see her going to the top of the tree soon.
Recommended.

Wonderful film with a strong message. Likeable characters, a fiesty yet vulnerable heroine, a strong male lead displaying his softness and protectiveness, and most of all, cold beings showing they have a heart to beat as well. The final shot just before the end credits roll conveys a lot of things, if understood. Not to mention the interspersed bits of genuinely laugh-out-loud moments which keep the atmosphere light and cheery, despite the gloom of the storyline.
Superb story, excellent direction and some nice performances. I thought the guy who played "R" was right into the boots of his role. And to add to all that, there are some really fantastic wide shots of the landscapes, all credit to the cinematographers.
So refreshing to see the done-to-death sub-genre get a really fresh treatment. This is everything the Twilight "saga" hoped to be and failed. Make this a franchise and I'll watch every single sequel/prequel they make. Highly recommended.

Casual viewers would be delightfully entertained, but comic-book officianidos would be enraged beyond their wits at the point where the twist comes in regarding the villain.
For me, it was a great dose of CGI-filled entertainment, with Downey Jr pulling out some great punches while battling those "liquid metal", T-1000-esque human villains, until that twist. The rest of the film lost credibility, even though the climax sequence was mind-blowing (although I didn't like the end of that sequence involving Pepper and Killian).
A true laugh-out-loud moment after the end credits roll out, but a bit disappointed with that too since I was looking for some sort of an indication towards the buildup to The Avengers 2.

It wasn't bad as far as the more serious of zombie flicks go. A lot of action and great visuals. Some of the fight scenes were awesome to say the least. Fairly predictable, and funny at times without crossing the line of slapstick.
With the oversaturation of zombie flicks out there to pick from - this is one of the better ones. I'd definitely recommend a viewing. It's well worth the ride.

cat People (1982) This my 3 or 4 re-watch movie,
I saw Cat People (1942) for first last week , which I thought was decent and I did not think it was that great but this 1982 one, I thought was great!
I really enjoyed the whole of movie, granted the movie could have been little shorter as the were saw calm moment that took bit to long but that my only complaint,
The rest of the movie was really well paced and I loved some of bloody moment in this movie, it was very nasty and bloody at times.
I love the transformation scenes was ace,
I loved that scenes great effect in this movie and I liked how they made this remake more of there
and some little nod to the The original like the swimming pool scenes but I do think The original was bit more creepy in that but for me that only decent part in the The original,
Really great acting from the whole cast
8 out of 10
Village of the Damned (1960)
I have tired to watch this one before but I just could not get into at time so, I gave this movie another go
I thought it was decent movie, it had some really good creepy moment with kid scenes but the rest of the movie did little tame at times.
I really enjoyed last 20 mixtures of movie and number of things gong at the same time but I wish there more to the aftermath of movie. just to end it after that.
The acting was decent from the whole cast
5 out of 10
Carrie (2002) I also been reading the book and I so gave this movie another watch.
I really enjoyed - Min-in -series that turned into a movie, I thought add a lot of decent stuff that missing from the first movie
I really the whole movie and liked the interview parts of the movie as well, they well made at and pace wasn't to bad at all
Some of effect of the movie were a little odd in this movie but i don't think there were that bad at all and acting was really good from most of the cast some wooden acting from some cast.
i was a little disspoting they didn't follow the book again and I didn't really like how this movie ended at all.
This was decent movie 6 out of 10 not as good as the first one but this a is a lot more closer to the book!
When A stranger calls (1979)
I have tired to watch this movie twice before, I just could fully get into the movie.
I really enjoyed the first half of movie, there were decent creepy scenes in this movie, and nice way of making you jump even when nothing much it going on.
What did not like about this movie is that middle part of the movie, I was really bored and some scenes kinda of drag on and on, I bored to death, I made turn the last two times .
Then it's picks up again after slow middle part of the movie and the last 20 mins of the movie really good and it finally grab back into the movie again.
There were very good scene and very well paced in later part of the movie and some really good tense moment in near just like the movie started.
The last scene in the movie was perfect, I love had everything from creepy, tension and shocking moment and really well acted.
6 out of 10
Village of the Damned (1995)
Frist of all, I Don't The original was even that good but at least kept in in and moved forward and at more creepy feel to the movie.
I did think movie would be better as John Carpenter did this remake, So I looking forward to it but soon as the movie started I knew this movie not going to be good.
I didn't really like how they kinda chnage the story and gave really lame back story to kids being bored, there not one moment did have this kids creepy or scary at all, it was tame from start to end and never feel moved forward as the movie was such their
I thought this was going to be a lot more better, so how they about to die, we actually see the death scenes in this movie, seen before and the aftermath but not when happens, it cuts way to the kids was lights in there eyes.
The acting was really wooden by some of the main cast, I don't maybe they took make this more main stream movie,
I think must worst John carpenter movie but a least movie wasn't boring, it maybe a little intruded how the movie going pan out, even that ending was a load of rubbish.

When a Stranger call (2006)
Well, What I find odd that, It took me 3 times to see The original in full but this remake, watched in one full sitting.
So the start of original movie as expected for most of the movie, we also get little story of murder before and then Girl ends up baby sitting we also get she little bit about self before she goes into the house.
While she was house for first 15 mins with walking around with some noise here and there, I thought there were some decent suspens moment there but then when Friends end ups breaking in, with out even knowing.
After the movie kind of lost suspense it had and just got little boring until the latter part of the movie, when things start to happen and I do think Music should have been added to those scenes, It kinda took the esge of those scenes away.
Well the last scenes from the movie were really pointless and didn't really add anything to the movie, only one lame scace scene was not even real.
The acting was not great but it more then watch -able, so it not really bad.
I had some mixed feeling the original, I didn't think was great but still better then remake which also had it moment here and there.

"Sinister" (2012)
-Ethan Hawke
Plot: IMDB
A true-crime writer finds a cache of 8mm home movies films that suggest the murder he is currently researching is the work of a serial killer whose career dates back to the 1960s.
Phantom's Review: Well made, entertaining film. Fine performances from the cast and the director creates a very "classic" spooky atmosphere (dark stormy nights, thunder and Lighting etc) The plot is interesting and never boring and there are a few good BOO scenes. My only complaints about the film are 1) I thought the music sucked awfully. It got on my nerves. and 2) (this might be considered a spoiler, so be warned) this is one of those horror films were the bad guys win at the end, and to be honest , I'm getting a little bored by that. It's no longer shocking. (end spoiler)
Outside of that, this is a decent film.

I saw Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters last night. I recommend it for both horror and fairy tale fans as it mixes the two. Really, when you think about fairy tales in general, they're mostly pretty gruesome to begin with. I saw the unrated version, BTW. It was pretty gory, almost like watching a Hostel film.

Very interesting concept that they didn't totally fuck up. In the near future they have a yearly event when all crime is legal for 24 hours. They could have concentrated a little more on the problems this creates but they opted for the most part in giving us a typical home invasion scenario. I didn't think I would like this movie as I am not keen on Hammer movies that why it's taken me this long to watch this movie and I got to say WOW, I loved this movie.
As soon as the movie started I was already sold, I loved the opening scenes of the movie, really well done.
There some great tense moment in this movie and I really liked the flash back as well, fitted in well with rest of the movie.
I loved the gory death in this movie and I didn't even think this movie will have any blood at all and the effect were really good.
I really the most of the movie until that wolf fight scenes, which I didn't really liked and find silly some odd effect in that parts of the movie, the only down side of the movie.

The Haunted (1991) TV movie, I didn't even know about this until early this afternoon, Custom told me at work about this movie on you tube that scared him.
While I did my work at work and had time watch this movie on YouTube,
The movies start with saying it was bad on true story and few things have change in the movie.
A family moving into home and it dose long for mother/wife he first to feel or see stranger things in the house but of course no one believes.
Soon other stranger think happen to other members of the family and I DO! mean very stranger things, that may make you laugh, I sure laughed some of the spooky going on's
Like the ghost talking form Pillow, Yes, pillow whispering and this movies as one the stranger man-rape scenes very, it was really well flashy scene in a odd way.
I felt some of script was very weak in early part of the movie and it kinda of felt, we seen all before and done better in other movies.
This movie is worth watching but I didn't really find all that creepy or even that scary

[First one to me was like, just okay decent found footages movies and some of of those stories to be a little to short and little to boring,
However in this sequel, I found that segment had enough time and I didn't find one of them boring at all.
Tape 49
The movie start of with two investigators looking got a missing male student, so end up searching the home and then enter find a number of tapes just like first one.
Male looks around and lady then who see laptop and recording of boy is tell her how the stranger the tapes.
So she puts the tape one
Phase I Clinical Trials
A man just had his eye installed with a camera after a car accident took his sight in this eye and it more of POV kinda of think this one.
But soon everything fine, until it was about go to bed and stranger things start happen first and then he start to seeing the dead.
This segment did make me jump and I did find this one to be really creepy at times and the make up effect for the ghost were very good and they did look scary.
I really enjoyed this one and I really liked how the story came to a end ,,
8 out of 10
A Ride in the Park (The second segment)
THis shot entirely with a "Go Pro" camera mounted on a helmet, while this man riding his bike and then suddenly he see a women covered in blood screaming for help, not know what wrong she get sick and then she attack him and What ever she had , he had passed to him and now as also become a Zombie.
I didn't find this boring but there was some very gutsy scenes in this segment and I didn't really like how this segment came to end.
The zombie make up effect was really decent and I think this one could I have been a bit more bloody.
6 out of 10
Safe Haven
This segment was the best of the a lot and it's the longest one as well, there segment had subtitled in most of it and the most Craziest segment I have Ever seen!
New crew who wanted documentary and they allowed to go in, they take r hidden cameras on buttons of the crew's shirts.
It's start of normal and I didn't like the whole drama of crew, which ends up being part of the story but then it fitted in with the rest of cult think.
This one of very strange and very creepy and really gory in this segment and one of the most bizarre scenes you will ever see in this segment.
This one will creepy you and then grossed you and then it will make up laugh your freaking head off like you never have before.
10/10
Slumber Party Alien Abduction
As not good as the last segment but it was still really good and this a lot better the whole movie of Unware (2010) should have been like this.
This start with Camera on a dog and while mum and dad going and family get up silly pranks for first part of the movie.
Until they see a blue flashing light that blinds them and soon are be terrorised by Aliens and some Aliens attack here really well done.
This some really good tense moment as well and Aliens do look really good and effect in this one was really good.
I loved it! 9/10
Back to Tape 49
I didn't really like how they ended this one, they try to go go for shock factor but I don't think worked.

I thought it was pretty good too. However, I learned something interesting this week -- haven't verified that it's true. I heard that it was originally done with practical effects, using the same team that did the effects for Tremors. Then at the last minute they decided to switch to CG, and redid all the creature effects. I would have preferred the practical effects. The movie was good though, and didn't disappoint, despite having a lot to live up to.

Starring Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon and Harry Connick Jr.
A great movie about paranoia and how one can be easily led on by someone with extremely strong convictions, regardless of how out of place or utterly false they are (or are they?). Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon give excellent performances in William Freidkin's best picture (imo) since The Exorcist itself. Based on an off-broadway play by the same name written by Tracy Letts. Michael Shannon reprises his stage role as Peter, a stranger with a scarred and potentially dangerous past. Starting out as an unassuming stranger invited to the motel home of Agnes (Ashley Judd), an isolated and deeply troubled individual living in constant fear of her abusive and manipulative ex-husband, Jerry. As their relationship starts out, Peter is seen as a guardian angel sent almost serendipitously from the heavens. He comforts. He doesn't ask for anything. He is near painfully perceptive. As things go along though, there is something terribly wrong and as Peter pulls Agnes under his wing and under his influence they both begin a descent into absolute madness.
One of the things I found most absorbing about the film is the element of "out of the frying pan and into the fire" that builds as the movie goes on.
With excellent performances, a challenging and disturbing premise about paranoia and the dangers of letting people into your life and Friedkin's expert understanding of the material and how to make the absolute best of his minimal sets this is one of the great unsung heroes in recent film history; and while things get a little absurd in the last act, I feel that it's only the logical progression and this film definitely gets my utmost reccommendation.

Orphan- I finally got around to watching this one after it sat collecting dust in my collection for over a year. I was pleasantly surprised by it, as it's definitely one of the best "evil child" movies I've seen. It has effective scares, good performances (especially by Vera Farmiga as "Esther") and a very unsettling atmosphere throughout. While it does bow to convention and cliche at times, it's still worth a watch. 4/5

Hatchet (2006) Every time I see this movie, I enjoy even more then the last time, it has everything and I liked to see in slasher, loved it 10/10
Hatchet 2 (2010) This is actually my second time, I have not seen since first time I saw, I was
really disappointing with this movie and I actually liked this less then the last time I saw it!
There missing something from the first movie and I think gore was actually step down from the first movie, I think, it took time for some gory moment in this, I didn't really find it all that fun.
5/10,. I wasn't really happy about the re-cast!

Finally tracked down a bootleg VHS copy for download. Nice treatment but I was disappointed by the ending again, like the 60s version. The 1945 treatment remains as the best one. Oliver Reed shines in the lead with Elke Sommer giving him good company, and supported by a stellar ensemble cast with the likes of Sir Richard Attenborough, Herbert Lom, etc. Great to see Bond baddies Gert Frobe (Goldfinger) and Adolfo Celi (Thunderball) play victims for a change.
Now, off to find the 1989 version.

Not as impressive as the original, which was a "found footage" film whereas this one was a proper film. And the pre-destined ending was already hinted up in the original, so nothing new added to this one. Skip if you have better things to do.

Hatchet 3 (2013)
Yesterday, I saw all 3 back to back and it could easily fit all these 3 movies into one full movie,
I loved first movie, It's had gore, it some Nudity and it's some nice tounge in cheek moment that I loved everything about it!
In 2010 I could not wait to see Hatchet 2, I got hopes up little to high, cause, I didn't like, I found that it was tone down some bit,
I found it less gory and it took while for movie to get going after the boring middle part and with no humour.
I didn't really get my hope for this one, Cause, I knew if I did , I would be disappointed by this.
For me Hatchet 3 I found just little more fun and a bit better then Hatchet 2.
I loved the opening of the movie, that is one hell of way to start and I loved very gory opening in this movie.
I think movie a lot more better pace then second movie, there not many of Jump scenes in this movie like Number 2 and calmer scenes don't seem to drag on and I was not bored with this movie at all.
The side-plot of the movie could have been better but it okay and I really enjoyed the last few scenes in the movie.
I loved those effect in the last few scenes, it was very gooey, I did not expect that but I did find little silly how it happened.
Improvement on second movie but I felt they were missing the some of the dark Humour that made first one a lot more fun.
6/7 out of 10 really good sequel

I've heard from alot of people that Hatchet was awesome, Ill have to check it out sometime! Bloodstone: Subspecies II- A pretty good continuation from the original with Anders Hove still fuming and undeniably viscious and vile as he ever has been. Radu is one of my favourite on screen vampire characters ever and on the basis of Hove's performance and David Allens always neat stop motion work and some awesome gore effects I'll give this one a 4/5.

Solidly creepy first half with some superb spooky scenes and scary atmosphere. But once the CGI takes over, the film peters out a bit. And the climax is the lowest point of the film. If only they had gone the implied route, it would have added a lot of horror with the audiences' imaginations working overtime.
Still, fairly enjoyable.

It was just okay, and it seemed like something at the end totally negated things said earlier, and I hate it when that happens. I'm not sure or not, and I don't care to watch the whole movie again to see.
Plus, I know Tony Todd is a much loved horror icon, but I found his low monotonal, growling delivery of every line to be as annoying as Christain Bales' Batman voice.

Not as fun and refreshing as the first and not as dark and gritty as the second. Still even though it is the weakest of the three, i still liked it. It had good moments of humor, tons of gory death scenes and continued the story nicely. The plot was a little silly and the movie didn't seem to take itself seriously and a lot of the acting was pretty bad but not a bad addition to the series.

Entertaining, with some breathtaking cinematography. Great to see the familiar LOTR characters return to share screen space in the new prologue. Some parts dragged a bit and felt unnecessary, and the ultra-long running time of 2 hr 45 minutes could have been shortened by skipping those out. Hopefully the next one is more succinct.

Lightyears better than Men in Black II, but still not quite up to par with the original, MiBIII is a pleasant piece of sci-fi escapism with a dash of heart. I would definitely recommend watching it sometime when you're not busy and have an evening to spare. Not too big on the brains, but definitely entertaining and funny enough. Especially of note is Josh Brolin's performance as the young Agent K. His emmulation of TLJ is nearly spot on with enough dry wit to spare. Suit up, shut off your brain and enjoy.

Lol. Thats what they set out to do. I enjoyed it
I can see that point of view, and don't get me wrong I didn't hate it just because it was sick and exploitative. It just didn't seem to have anything to say about what was going on, it didn't expand or explore the potential for social commentary that a synopsis like that made me think it would. It wasn't funny to me, although I've been told that it's got a sense of humour. Dead Alive had a sense of humour, and this is incredibly far removed. It was just vacant, pointless violence, for the sake of pointless violence, and while I can accept that and often enjoy films that dare to show us things people would normally never take on, this film just rubbed me entirely the wrong way.
You're not the only one who saw it that way, my best friend also said he liked it a lot, and for the very same reasons I found it detestable.
To each their own, though. If you can take something from it that I didn't see or just didn't care to see, it's all well and good. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Directed by: Eli Craig
Starring: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden and Jesse Moss
Two dumb as nails but genuinely likeable "hillbillies" (played with a warm believability and great comedic timing by Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk), Tucker and Dale, are on their way to a country cabin for a vacation when they come across a goup of college students on their way to a getaway in the woods. Dale finds himself smitten with one of the ladies in the group, Alison (Katrina Bowden) but has never been able to talk to girls properly. After some goading by his friend, Tucker he finally gets the nerve to go over and introduce himself. Too bad he carries a gigantic scyth with him and takes his friends advice a little too litterally (one of many great send-ups of horror movie cliches), culminating in the whole group being intensely off-put and setting into motion a terrible case of mistaken identity where D&T are mistaken for crazed hillbilly serial killers.
I found this to be a pitch perfect comedy of errors in which just about any preconception you may have of the standard slasher flicks and turns them on their heads in a way that (imho) made this film one of (if not the) best horror-comedy I've seen in a dogs age. As things get progressivley worse and worse for our duo the laughs come in full force.
I would highly recommend this film for the above reasons as well as the genuine undercurrent of sweetness and emotional honesty that beats at the very heart of Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
Check it out!

Rose Red is a nice movie :) A bit long though.
John Carpenter's The Thing
Not so fond of alien type movies but decided to watch this anyway. It's alright. Didn't find it that scary, only when you see the disgusting 'alien' is quite creepy. Find the movie a bit too slow for my liking, and depressing. I also hate anything that involve animals, so the dogs scene were very uncomfortable for me. I would say 3 out of 5.
The Possession (2012)
Nothing new.. the kid did a good job of being possessed but didn't find it scary either. Hated the jump cuts and aerial view at the beginning. But somehow I don't feel the movie connects to me, like I couldn't care less for any of the characters. Maybe I don't like any of the actors playing.. I don't feel they have the right emotion for it.

House at the End of the Street (2012)
One reason I have seen this movie early was cause of title of the movie but I have had it on my watch list for a bit and I was recommend this movie 3 days ago.
So gave this movie watch and first set go, I wasn't sure what actually going on, It didn't really make sense of it, while trying figuring it out, I thought I might missed something at start.
As the movie goes on the movies get way to predicable and some stuff in this movie was just waist of time.
I felt most of the movie very boring and I just not connect with any one and I should sorry for girl, who seem to be nasty person.
I actually felt sorry for the killer in this movie, well they gave him a little bit of back story to him.
After the movie ended, I was actually still waiting something to happen in this movie,
Watch-able movie but it id very weak pacing which make the movie uninteresting and at end of the movie you will feel humdrum, I know I did.
The acting was really decent from the whole, it shame about rest of the movie.
3 out of 10
Would You Rather (2012)
First part of them movie is about Iris who as a sick brother and ends unknowingly agrees to compete in a deadly game of "Would You Rather," hosted by a sadistic aristocrat.
Not bad movie but it not a great movie either, is just the Average at
best
I not sure what to make of this movie, well it was not boring, it was
tad predicable, how I could tell who going to be last one left from the
start.
I didn't like the ending twist, also so so that coming.
I was still intruded how they were going to do torture scene some
scenes did look really pain full in this movie and one nasty.
Some of other seem a bit tame, this movie could have not more exacting
It's a bad movie, it has it good and bad faults and the acting I found it better then I thought it would be.
I going to give this movie 5 out of 10 rather then 4 or 6 out of 10 :p
I did see the trailer before seeing this movie,, which made movie a
little bit better then it is.
No One Lives (2012)
I didn't even know about this movie until this week, Saw trailer and looked great.
A gang of thugs who end up messing with the wrong person, as the person they kidnapped turn out to be a Psychopath.
Wow this movie actually flew by, it really well paced and never gets boring at all, I was actually clued to the screen most of the movie.
There one moment in the movie, that stick with me for few hours after the movie, gross but also in away It was kind of funny.
I loved some of death scenes in this movie, some of were very gruesomely gory at time.
The weakest part of this movie is the acting from most of the cast were not that good and dose effect some scenes in this movie but don't let that get in away.
The rest of the movie is a lot of fun
Great Slasher 8 out of 10
Detention of the Dead (2012) Not that bad a bit better then I thought it would be.
This movie mixed of Detention meet Dance of the Dead ,
The movie dose not take to long to get going and there are some very funny moment that made
me laugh out loud.
He got normal dentenion group, Jock guys, hot cheerleader, goth girl, Drug guy and Nerd guy all
in Detention.
Also guys come to seem to feel unwell and then hell break lose of cause
There were some silly over the tops here and there and some of the jokes can go on bit long, but it got laughing.
Some part of the movie are little boring for zombie there, Didn't really do much and sit and talk few room, which I could not case less about.
It did start bit gory but as the movie went the zombie deaths seem to less bloody not really really that gory.
I give 4.8 out of 10, It made laugh,, I just round it's off to 5 out of 10

Dead Before Dawn (2012 )
I didn't not expect that at all, I found this movie very funny a bit to funny and I laughing number of times this movie, yes some of it seem silly at times but very funny.
I loved the plots of the movie, great idea spoof Zombie and Demon
The plot: a group of kids unleash a horrible zombie-demon ("zemon") curse on a small town. Everyone who makes eye contact with the kids kills themselves and comes back as a zemon, bent on killing the kids by giving them hickeys
It; was really fun and very enjoyable fast moving movie and really enjoyed how come people kill them self in this movie before they turn into Zemons.
Some of kills scenes is movie were very funny in this movie and there few splatters moment in this movie aswell but I think could done more gory deaths thought then they were.
The acting was really decent, It hard to tell if they pretend to play dump in some scene.
I wasn't really happy how the movie came to a end, it kind of feel bit cheated by and in the last scene of the movie is very predicable
I enjoyed most of the movie before the 10 minutes I may i rated higher but it still get decent 6 out of 10

I watched the following films a couple of nights ago (two for the first time, the others I have seen before) By the way, I will only review the films I have not seen before:
Hatchet (first time): 8/10 I thought it was funny and I definitely liked all the references to the slashers of the 1980s. For example, the killer, Victor Crowley, was a mongoloid who died by being burnt to death-an obvious fusion of Jason and Freddy. Plus, the cameos by three slasher legends Robert Englund (as a fisherman), Kane Hodder (as the killer), and Tony Todd (as a Vodoo tour guide). I thought that the ending was, whether intentional or not, a little empty. With the exception of the ending, this is an all-around good movie I would say.
Mama (first time) 8/10: I thought this film was really good. It had a really good story and was very effective at building suspense. Additionally, it featured some really good performances, especially Jessica Chastain and the two little girls (the younger girl was actually, in my opinion, scarier than the ghost). The two major flaws of this movie were one the ghost of Mama because she herself was not really that scary looking. I think the movie would have been much better off if they had not shown her as much. Second, I think the climax could have been better, the film was relatively intense and scary, then at the end it abruptly changes and it feels as though we are watching Ghost (1990). It was not a bad climax, but it just seemed out of place for a movie like this. Overall though, a really good movie for the reasons I described above.
Clive Barker's Hellraiser (I have seen many times before): 10/10
The Blair Witch Project (I have seen this several times before): 10/10
Ghoulie Joe

Zombieland (2009): 10/10
I thought this film was one of the most brilliant horror comedies I have ever seen. It was interesting because it was very much a zombie film, while also managing to be quite funny. I especially like how this film was able to mix drama/seriousness with this humor. It was an interesting fusion. In my opinion, all the characters were very likeable and I could identify with them, especially Columbus as played by Jesse Eisenberg. Tallahassee as played by Woody Harrelson was the next best character. On that note, the roles were very well played and I actually felt for the characters. This film had a very human aspect to it. To the top it off, there is a great cameo from actor Bill Murray who played himself. On this note there is one other thing, however minor, that I loved which was the many pop culture references including, Hannah Montana, Twinkies, Ghostbusters, Titanic, Mountain Dew, Anaconda being just some of the references that were made throughout the film. It might be minor, but it made the world of the film seem more real. Ultimately, I loved this film because I thought it was brilliantly written and directed, featured some really good acting, and was quite funny, while still being serious at times. Definitely a modern horror comedy classic.

I would say 2.5 out of 5.
I have never seen the Possession. I am surprised by your rating of The Thing. The reason I ask is that I believe that the film is brilliantly directed by John Carpenter. It has an extremely dark, scary atmosphere. Additionally, it is (intentionally or unintentionally) a comment on both the Cold War and AIDS. The acting and character development is really high-quality (despite the large number of characters involved). The story is an interesting science fiction story based on the book "Who Goes There?." It is especially interesting to see how the characters who had so trusted each other slowly descend into paranoia and fear. Of course, one must mention the special effects, which were definitely ahead of their time. The score, despite not being composed by Carpenter, is quite eerie and match the film quite well. Of course, I love both science fiction and dark movies. I would definitely give the film a 10/10. To me, it deserves at least a 9/10 or in your system at least a four out of five. You have a right to your opinion, but it just surprises me.

My gut reaction to this movie is, "I liked it." Better than the first one? Sure. But let's look at the actual "parts" of the film:
Tape 49/frame narrative, Directed by Simon Barrett - I thought this was pretty weak. Not sure that we necessarily needed a frame/narrative. Felt like we were going through the motions just to get to the tapes - Why not just cut it and get us there? The payoff was pretty weak too.
Clinical Trials, Directed by Adam Wingard - The concept was weak as well as some of the acting. Meh.
A Ride in the Park by Eduardo Sánchez - Maybe I'm jaded but I thought of it as just another zombie movie - Meh.
Safe Haven, Directed by Gareth Huw Evans - This, by far, was the best short. Really loved it and is probably what made this whole movie work for me.
Alien Abduction Slumber Party Directed by Jason Eisener - This was probably my 2nd favorite of the shorts - Definitely built up great suspense and had some fantastic scenes - Outside of the silly looking aliens I thought that it was solid.

There's a lot to like about this movie - It's a very subtle scifi slow-burner that deals with a pretty horrifying concept... What I really liked about it especially was the fact that we don't have people discovering the twist per se (SOILANT GREEN IS PEOPLE)... Our characters are just living it.
My big issue is that ultimately the movie is trying to create a feeling of utter helplessness but I didn't necessarily buy the inescapably of it.

I really really wanted to like this movie. Honestly, I think that my favorite part of it was Rob Corddry. The writing was really poor - The voice over was insipid and annoying and the main female, who is supposedly badass, made some really confusingly dumb decisions - In general this was one of those odd movies where characters continually make decisions that are just unbelievable. Pretty disappointing.

Have not really read any of Brooks work outside bits of the Calendar edition of the survival guide...so not sure how this sums up in comparison...
I thought it was "ok". Not great, not aweful.
I had more problems with the fuckwits attending the cinema than the movie itself...I swear, I must make sure never to take a weapon in with me...

I thought this was awesome. It had a good story, was exciting the whole way through and nobody made any stupid decisions that ruined everything.

I really loved the scene where Brad Pitt is walking towards the zombies at the end and they all just run around him because he infected himself with the virus to camouflage himself. It was an excellently done scene and it's the kind of moment i live for in movies.

The Next Three Days
Second time seeing this one. I especially love the third part of the movie. Everything Russel Crowe's character does in the last part is so smart. My girlfriend thought it was just ok due to the poor parenting decisions. She was hoping they would get arrested or die and the kid would go to the grandparents. Shes a little dark

Someone else said this here, i don't remember who, but they said that the film would've been better if they had gone more into detail about The Purge. I felt the same way, it was on too small a scale. I would've liked to see more about the state of America to cause the Purge and better demonstrations of its carnage. Maybe show the night of the first purge or show the whole system collapse. In the end this movie just became a gimmicky home invasion movie filled with stupid annoying characters who make dumb decisions. Nothing about this movie is scary or even interesting. Really disappointed.

Hmmm. I was actually pretty disappointed in this for a couple of different reasons -
Rue Morgue made a HUGE buzz about the movie in last month's issue and labelled it "Feminist horror," which definitely had me very curious
With such a bizarre concept of an underground body modification surgeon, I thought that the movie opened the door for some seriously disturbing and interesting body horror themes and images...
But it fell short for me. I think that it suffers from being directed by two novice filmmakers whose buzz is bigger than their bite and, honestly, without a strong film around her, Katharine Isabelle's weaknesses show - She's really not that great an actress.
I guess I was expecting more body horror, interesting body modification concepts, and, quite frankly, to be shocked. But I wasn't. Also the ending was pretty awful and dissatisfying. Huge disappointed Meh.

Evil Dead 2013 - First time viewing.
I'm pretty openminded when it comes to remakes/reimaginings of films I've enjoyed in the past.
There's ones I enjoy such as Dawn, and there's ones that I do not like NOES. Hit or miss for me, though I'm always willing to watch.
The original "The Evil Dead" is one of the first horror films I have recollection of seeing, and has always been a favourite of mine.
This might somewhat bias any views I have of something different, but hey I admit that.
This one was "ok" but honestly I was a bit underwhelmed.
I found it lacking in atmosphere, and it seemed like it was too much of a gore/shock competition with the original.
I actually didn't mind that new characters were bought in, though I think the do-over of the whole book/lore/demon was both superfluous and bordering on disrespectful of the source material.
I do understand wanting to make something ones own, and admire the balls and aspiration there, but...yeah, kind've approaching uncool.
Also, a bit dissatisfied with the look of the possessed, and the voices were certainly more warped in the 80's version...I preferred those.
These things looked right out of the exorcist, and not sure if it was an intentional joke towards this, but some of the dialogue even gave a nod that way too.
It was a relatively fun movie, but I don't think I'd go out and buy myself a copy personally.
I'd give this a 6/10.
The original is about an 8.5 - 9 for me.
I didn't hate it.

I found it underwhelming too. Nothing special at all and it just felt like a hollow version of the original all flash and no substance (some nice camera work and effects tho). It lacked the strong characters of the original films.
I hated how the demons were a combo of J-Horror and The Exorcist they just weren't as effective IMO.

It was my wife's turn to pick a movie from the old Netflix account. She chose Paranormal Activity 4. I'm not a huge fan of any of the movies in the franchise, but I'll watch them since my wife will watch movies I enjoy even if they're not her thing. I will say this though, the woman who has played Katie in all four films is freakin' HOT! :D

Ok.
Yes.
I also know that can indicate varying degrees of involvement.
Don't really give a fuck how they felt about it or not...I'm not about to hop on its dick just because they had their name involved with something that put some cash in their pocket.
I am not that much of a fanboy.
Drag me to Hell was more Evil Dead than this was.
Besides, I said the source material. Not them.
Changes are fine as is originality, though I personally think they took it and ran in the wrong direction.
You don't have to agree with me.
You think what you think about it, cool.
Like I said, I didn't hate it.
It served a good purpose whether I liked it that much or not, to show Raimi that his franchise could still float...seems like the first real news of his proposed sequel to AOD/ed4 has solidified since its release.
Incredible first poster for this.
Then we will have to disagree because that shit was the bomb, I'm not saying it is better than the original but I think it is just as good. I'm glad they took the comedy out of it and made it a more serious movie, I'm glad they gave a better explanation on how the book got there. Drag Me to Hell is shit compared to this new version of Evil Dead. I think the writers and director showed extreme respect for the source material and I know for a fact that Raimi and Campbell love the end product and that the original wasn't the movie they really wanted to make so it doesn't matter in the least whether you liked it or not. To each their own.

Again, spoken as though that validates what you're saying to you...it's like you don't think you can have a thought of your own without having to back it up in this way.
it doesn't matter in the least whether you liked it or not.
Then stop feeling the need to champion the movie like you take personal offense to my opinion, and we can stop talking about it.
You liked it. I didn't. Said that in the first place.
I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind so any time you want to go ahead and drop this...
Last night I watched "Red".
I'd not bothered with this as I'd heard it was based on a miniseries by Warren Ellis that I'd read and quite enjoyed, and that they'd expanded the idea hugely into a completely different storyline.
I thought it looked ok, but was never really interested - I think I may have been fresh off seeing "wanted" which didn't really do it for me.
Though I saw a trailer of the second film...looked pretty good.
I grabbed the first one, and I actually quite enjoyed it...it might be one of my favourite Bruce Willis outings in some time.
Deliberately over the top in both scenario and characters, but the end result was something actually enjoyably entertaining, and fun.
Yes, it's a far cry from the comic I read a few years ago...only really the first five minutes were related at all, the rest was a completely new storyline - this is an example of this done well, unlike a few other films I've seen fail at the same.
It's a fun ride. Great cast. Decent storyline. Funny.
While it's still fresh in the mind off first viewing I'd probably give it an 8/10.

Pretty much what I figured it would be, over the top martial arts. The ending seemed a bit quick and being RZA's project it's got a few spots of Rap/Hip-Hop music which automatically makes me want to skip those scenes, but most of it was entertaining. I don't know that I'd ever feel the need to watch it again though.

V... Don't be apprehensive. Watch it. But like you said, set your expectations appropriately.
Regarding all the "meh" responses to the Evil Dead remake... I'm not terribly surprised. I'll give my two cents as to why I personally loved the movie. I'm not trying to change anyone's minds -- there's no reason to, and there's certainly no re-doing a first impression.
First off, I'll mention that I'm a ridiculous Evil Dead fan. Evil Dead I and II have never left my top 5 horror movies all time over the past 20 years, and II has vied for the #1 spot for much of that time. Being such a fan, you might think that would make me irrationally-forgiving of a new entry, but like most of the rest of you, I think it actually makes me more critical. Being also a huge Star Wars fan, the prequels offended me on a near-personal level. Eck.
Fede Alvarez had the impossible task of remaking a movie/franchise that's simply not remakable. If I were a betting man or an investor, I would not have put my money on an Evil Dead remake. (Of course, I would have been wrong, but that's another discussion.)
Let's get the obvious reason out of the way: The Evil Dead is regarded as one of the best horror movies of all time. So Alvarez had about a 99.9999% chance of making a movie that's not as good. Simple.
Besides that, however, I think there are three reasons why this particular movie has little to no chance of success among horror fans.
1. Cult status
The orignal film/franchise is a cult favorite -- cherished by those who love it, and unheard of by everyone else. When I learned that an Evil Dead remake was in the works, I told some folks at work, and their response was, "WTF is Evil Dead?"
Cult movies, by nature, cannot truly be remade. They only happen once, and usually gain popularity for oddball reasons. Those who are fans of the cult favorite will be offended at an attempt to tarnish their treasure, and those who are not fans won't understand what the big deal is, and probably think the original is stupid. The best a remaker can do is try to make a "proper movie" using the original's story, and hopefully pay enough respect to the original that fans won't go berzerk. But the magic simply cannot happen twice. Fans of the original who are looking for that magic in the remake will not find it, and understandably will be disappointed.
2. Budget discrepancy
The original film is a crowning achievement in low-budget filmmaking. The end product is a masterpiece, despite its budget limitations, yet still somewhat flawed by those limitations. Those flaws are part of the charm, and it wouldn't be the masterpiece it is without them. However, any attempt to recreate those low-budget qualities in a remake would be a mistake. It would either come across as contrived, or would be a full-blown homage or parody (like Grindhouse). The end result is that the remake is not going to "feel" like the original, and fans won't like that.
3. Varying expectations
The original film is not just one film, it's three. I've heard so many people say the remake doesn't have the comedy aspect that the original did. The first movie, however, had no intentional comedy in it whatsoever. No boomsticks, no S-Mart, no hailing to the King or giving of sugar, baby. There are a couple cutesie scenes with Ash unloading the car and giving his girlfriend the necklace, and the part where he's punching the demon, John Wayne-style, but none of this is intentional comedy like Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. Yet, we each have our own idea of what "Evil Dead" is, and our own expectation of what the remake should entail. All three movies have vastly different tones, budgets, and characters, but the remake is supposed to be a remake of the first film (as stated in the opening credits), which was dark, demonic, over-the-top gory, and the prototype for the modern splatter film. Cult fans, however, will have a tough time preventing the 2nd and 3rd films from affecting their expectations.
Besides the above reasons, fans will still have plenty of reasons -- unique to each individual -- why they don't like specific details in the remake when compared to the originals. The lack of an Ash-like character, differences in the "rules" outlined in the book, aesthetics such as the look of the demons, the book not having a face on it... Many, many reasons why fans just won't be pleased. No matter what, it's a tough sell. I could write another unbearably long post about those details, and why I actually like many of them, but I'll save that for later.
However, outside of the cult fansmanship, and I suppose horror fans in general, the movie is very well-received. It's a well-paced, visually rich, boundary-pushing film with adequate characters and a simple, yet compelling-enough story. The pacing is actually better than the original, which drags toward the end. I'm not saying the story is incredible. It's basically the same as the original, which also wasn't Pulitzer Prize-winning.
More importantly, people are watching this film that have never seen anything like it, and it's scaring the crap out of some people. I went to see it with a bunch of friends. Both guys sitting next to me were squirming and jumping in their seats. I saw it a second time with my sister, who's not a huge horror fan, but also not adverse. She nearly passed out at one point in the movie, and had to step outside for fresh air. She literally (yes, literally) threw up on herself and peed her pants on the way home. That tells me that Alvarez did something right.
Anyway, I just thought I'd give a long-winded response on why I like the movie, and why I think it's not well-received by horror fans and Evil Dead fans. As someone said, to each his own, but it's too bad that the truly unique nature of the original franchise is such an obstacle for enjoying what I believe is one of the best films released this year.

I agree as well. Even if it hadn't have been a remake, I still would have though it was "OK". It wasn't great but it wasn't horrible. Probably 6/10.
You automatically know with a remake that they are going to change the ending, etc...because it's what they've been doing for the last umpteen years.
Personally, I think it needed another 20-30 minutes of development with the characters and the actual reading of the book. It just felt like they jumped in too quick. Treat it like this is not a remake and tell me a story, let me actually care about the characters. I didn't like how "Stereotypical Nerdboy" just reads the book. I would have rather had them build up to that point. Go to sleep and maybe the book keeps talking to him in his sleep or they read it over a campfire or something other than the way they did it. Those were my biggest gripes. I could care less if the book didn't have a face on it or whether the Ash character was in it or not. I want to be told a good story and it just jumped too fast for me.

Hmm...where to begin?
This is coming from an ardent Evil Dead franchise fan who has both the originals in his all-time top 10 horror films, so I am going to be a bit biased. (I am allowed to!)
***SPOILERS MIGHT FOLLOW SO BEWARE***
First, the positives - the film scored well in the raw grisliness after the initial 20-25 minutes, and there were moments which were filled with pure, genuine, fierce terror. The director has to be commended for pulling out all the stops he could to make this one match the steps (and the ultra-huge boots) of it's first 3 predecessors, specially the one which it is touted to be a remake of.
The female lead did her part in adding to the atmosphere, and was ably supported by her other female supporting cast members.
Plenty of nods to the first two films, a nice scene involving making a choice between a machete and a chainsaw, and an excellent, gorific ending which will make gorehounds very happy.
I guess I am in the minority who didn't particularly like Drag Me To Hell all that much, and I am glad a film from the Raimi stable didn't disappoint on the entertainment scale this time.
All in all, a much, MUCH better effort than the majority of the trash we have been subjected to in the past 14-15 years.
Now, the negatives (don't burn me at the stake for this, folks) - first big question, where the FUCK did the atmosphere of the film disappear to?!
The original started off with that eerie, Raimi-esque, camera pan shots which filled you with a huge sense of foreboding even before you laid your eyes on the car carrying the cast (not to mention the near-accident which sneaks a feeling into you that all is not well in these parts of the woods/country).
For the first 20-25 minutes when there's an overt show of brother-sister love (and nil development of other/all characters), are we supposed to wait and give a fuck for that?
Come on, it's an Evil Dead movie for chrissakes! When did a film in this series take itself THIS seriously?
Secondly, where the hell did they get that male lead (brother) from? They couldn't have found a more deadpan, wooden guy than him. The guy who played his friend did a much better job than him in the acting department.
Third, all the effects. Give me all that plaster of paris, gob-filled handmade stuff any day over CGI. I admit I am totally in love/awe of CGI when it's used in blockbusters (Avatar. Star Trek, LOTR, etc.) but when you use it in a horror film's limited setting such as this, it becomes overkill. I am sorry, producers Raimi, Tapert & Campbell, but the CGI here has ruined all your scares. Specially in the middle of the film, where the effects take over and the actors don't do much but flinch and groan as their bodies are subjected to some of the most gruesome punishment you can ever hope to see on the screen. And, someone explain this to me, how the heck can you manage to be normal-ish when you cut off your hand or pull your damaged arm out from under an overturned jeep, detaching your hand totally from your body, and have enough to lay out one-liners? That was a staple of ED II, in which nothing was taken seriously and all of it was one big over-the-top gorific, black comedy ride. And to add to it all, those fake eye effects which didn't look the least bit scary.
Fourth, terrible sound effects. I really didn't want to hear Tubular Bells playing during the climax of this film, specially. This is no Exorcist or Omen, this is Evil Dead. A silent background could have worked way better than that (just the sounds of the smoldering fire would have added more realism to the proceedings).
Fifth, the whole story is based on the book we know all too well about by now, and it explains the details of fixing things too. So, bury the possessed and wait till her heart stops, things become normal, then pull her out and try to revive her? What's more, she gets revived AND turns back to normal?! What about the thing which entered her and turned her in the first place? It went on to take a nap?
If we are supposed to take the film seriously (as is implied by the first 20 minutes), then mindless stuff will be questioned. But if it was supposed to be mindless entertainment (with an overdose of scare factor), then scratch out the "purposeful" first quarter of the film, add a bunch of unrated stuff into it, and re-release it all over again. I will be first in line to watch it, I promise.
EDIT - I just remembered that there was a dog in the film (named "Grandpa", of all things). Here was a chance for the makers to make it unique, and make the dog the first of the possessed. Canine fierceness could have added so much more to the proceedings. The dog could have bitten any one of the cast and subsequently got dismembered/beheaded, etc. Could have been a nice touch/angle. Instead the dog's role got cut out and wasted.
Entertained, but disappointed. They should have called it Evil Dead IV: Return to the Cabin, or ED IV: Without Ash, or something similar and should have just been done with it.
Overall, I should have trusted my gut feeling and just downloaded a torrent. Now this DVD will gather dust on my shelves for awhile...don't know how long.
Rating - * *
P.S. - What the hell was that Bruce Campbell cameo all about? Draw a few more of the money-spending audience to come in and whistle at their horror icon?
Not groovy.

Detention -
I was surprised by this one. I heard people have mixed feelings on it. I do think the movie isn't truly a horror movie. It's more one of those pop reference movies that without spoiling it has themes from various favorite movies. However, the horror comedy is probably the main element, which is something I'm kind of tired of because it's never done well. It always picks on the stupid/overused elements of horror movies. Yet, I thought the opening of Detention was hilarious. Almost as good as the opening of Scream. I don't think I've ever seen a movie start as quickly as Detention. However, the movie kind of lost me in the middle sections. Perhaps too much humor or other movie references. And the director was overdosing on the clever camera shots at times. But I can see how a younger audience that might not get all the references would love this movie. Same goes for people that do get the references. The lead girl is really good is this. And there is a surprise Canadian character that is awesome.
Tucker & Dale vs Evil -
I really didn't want to watch this one. I don't like the redneck/hillbilly horror theme. But wow this is a funny movie. It's difficult to do a movie about misunderstanding correctly. Especially when all the deaths are straight from slasher movies. The two opening setup scenes are crazy funny. I was hooked then. Perfect horror setup that just about any person would be a bit freaked out about. Also, I've always wanted to see a movie with Katrina Bowden after seeing her Esquire pictures. She's great and hot in this movie. I have to mention the death scenes again because they are all good. The best is probably the wood chipper one. It's so funny and classic that I had to rewind and watch it a bunch of times. What the character is doing before it happens just cracks me up. The movie does have the usual mushy ending expected in this type of movie. But that's like the last 10% and the rest is pretty much perfect. Even the token minority characters are cool in this movie unlike in the Friday the 13th remake. That was one of the surprising things too. They are smart and don't fit the stupid stereotype. This is not to be missed for horror fans.

Technically, a masterpiece.
Narratively, one of the finest films of our era.
Old time war films was all about fights, wins and losses. Modern war films have taken it a huge step further - the war from the eyes of the common man & the soldier on the ground. One might argue that it's a narrative of how things can go wrong, but I say it's a statement, and a very strong one at that. If the first 5-10 minutes don't make you grimace, then sit through it. I dare you to not flinch even once by the time the end credits roll.
I say it's the second most horrific film made by Ridley Scott after Alien. Watch it to believe me.

Wasn't really expecting much from them. I've never liked Ethan Hawke and see nothing special about him and i don't like Lena Heady at all. Thought her character was pointless in 300, i hated Sarah Connor Chronicles and she barely does anything anymore on Game of Thrones so yeah they weren't a selling point to me.
Sinister was okay, a lot better then Purge at least. I'd rank The Possession, Gray Skies and Mama over it though for this year.

Sinister was amazing by "american horror" standards. It still has some major flaws, though. The ghost kids form the bulk of those flaws as well as the way the ending was handled. I love what happens in the end but once again, they had to ruin it with all the silly shots of the kids...

The Apparition -
I heard this movie was bad. I decided to watch it anyway for Ashley Greene's appearance. She's a beautiful woman and in this movie she plays the perfect girlfriend. Likes camping? Check. Plays and is good at videogames? Check. Friendly and hot? Check. Likes pets and is compassionate? Check. Yet this is the second bad horror type movie I've seen her in. The first was that Summer's Moon movie. I put up with the first Twilight. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. But maybe she should get better agents or something for her individual projects. People are right about this movie. It does suck and isn't scary at all. In fact anything that's supposed to be scary comes from other far better and classic modern horror movies like The Ring or Grudge. I don't understand how anyone who likes horror movies could come up with something so dull and boring. The director also wrote the movie. They managed to put together a fairly strong cast too for what I believe is his first project. The bad kid from the Harry Potter movies is in this, I didn't recognize him till the end credits. And there is a cameo by the girl with great boobs from the Friday the 13th remake. But the movie is just one of those that you would watch late nights when nothing else is on. There was an attempted twist at the end but that went no where. It's like the responsible characters have no competence in this movie and are down right stupid at times. If you want to watch this movie for Ashley Greene stop a bit after the shower scene because it's all downhill after that.

The Conjuring
I really liked this movie. After hearing all the hype about it I had to see it. From what I've read about it unlike a lot of other movies that say "based on true story" their not fully truthful. Looking up the info on The Conjuring however they seemed to of finally gotten their facts straight. Mainly because I noticed in my findings one of the members of the real Perron family was involved in the film. Bravo! I actually want to look more into the investigations stories and what they've found through out the years. Not just with the Perron case either.
I will definitely see this movie again. Most likely add it to my collection as well when it is released

Is it possible? Has the perfect movie finally been created?
This movie has everything. All the best actors, like Steve from 90210, who's hairline is exactly where it was when he was in high school. Tara Reid, who looks hung over, and who's "acting" consists of nagging people and staring at things with a distressed look on her face.
It also has incredible special effects. "Old" sharkbite wounds that look a lot like peanut butter smeared on skin. A tornado that looks like an animated finger painting. City streets with sharks superimposed, which look like glow in the dark stickers. Random shapes falling from the sky, like squares. And trapezoids.
And of course, it has sharks. Lots of them. In the ocean. In the storm drains. In your living room. In tunnels. Falling from the sky. That part you have to see to believe.
I'm giving it a "perfect" 3/10, but don't let that stop you from watching it.

World War Z (2013): I saw this film a couple days ago and I have to say I did not really like it. I thought the story was somewhat different, but still relatively generic. There was some suspense, but, in general, it lacked that. Additionally, I just could not take it seriously. I thought the story really stretched things too far. Brad Pitt was about the only thing good about it, in my opinion. To be honest, I had a major headache by the end of the film. I would probably still rate it 5/10 or 2.5/5.

The Conjuring (2013): 8/10
I saw this film yesterday at the theatre. I have to say that I actually enjoyed it. I found it to be both scary and suspenseful. The acting was not brilliant, but was still really good. Additionally, I thought the score complimented the film pretty well. Sure, the film contained cliches and indirect references to other horror movies (including, Poltergeist, The Amityville Horror, and The Exorcist), not to mention the FX was about average, but despite those faults I still found the film really good. It may not be a masterpiece, but it was still a really well-made film, in my opinion.

http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s110/cylee77/Evil%20Dead%202013/ssshh_zps3fcf7a92.gif
Gruesome and scary. the original was a kick ass 80s horror classic follow by 2 sequels and 3 video games. the remake not to bad could become as one of my number # 1 horror faves. Though may-be a sequel which I figure that much. Sense the evil dead franchise is still popular. which the remake ended surprisingly different then I imagine. But I wont go into details just incase some may not have seen the film yet. But when the sequel is made I hope it is as good as the original sequel.

Semi-decent follow-up, leading up directly from the events of the original 70s classic. Some good gorific scenes, but overall below average and riddled with plot-holes galore. Watch if only you are a die-hard TCM fan and a completist.

Grabbers (2012)
I did this over today, I saw half yesterday and saw the rest of today, Maybe it's moie I need to watch in my sitting.
I thought there were some funny moments in this movie and some decent jokes here and there.
I liked the creature not bad but it didn't really all that fun,
Other creatures like Tremors it a lot of fun, this movie did not have the same impact as that at all.
I thought this would be much better then it was and I was hoping it to be a bit more funny then it was.
5 out of 10 now
Fairytale (2012/I)
This is odd one, I thought it some really good ideas in this movie,
I loved some of scenes in this movie, it there really well made but they didn't seem to have that Creepy feeling to see,
I thought the plot was really good and the movie didn't flow that well, it felt some scenes in the movie felt bit strange in bad way.
I actually liked the last scenes in this movie and I would have it a bit chilling then it was but that could have been a really good chilling moment,
Another probable with this movie was some of the acting was really Wooden at times in this movie but some scenes there was decent acted scenes.
Not great movie but worth watching a least once 4 out of 10
Chernobyl Diaries (2012)
I felt that this movie started of little slow, it took me a while to get into the movie, there few scenes that seem really little boring and drag a tittle.
just before half way mark , I got a bit intruded by it but Never really into the movie and I found boring but watch able and I thought the movie would have a lot more better then it was.
I didn't' like this in the whole but I really dig the last scenes in the movie, that what decent jump scenes.
The acting was not bad at all, it decent from the whole cast but I was little disappointed that the deaths were mostly off screen.
4 out of 10
Dark Circles (2013)
I really enjoyed this movie, it started of with bang and some bizarre scene in this movie in good way and they making feel very unsettling.
Couple just had new born baby, as they didn't want to raise the Baby in new york, so they to place when its less noise.
They moved to house and with their new born baby but baby dose sleep at night all, they seem to feel a sleepy a lot tiny.
What liked about this movie both of them see things as one time or another but they put down to not having enough sleep.
There were really good chilling moment in this movie and that made feel a little tense, they some really good scarce scenes in this movie what work, may make you jump.
I also liked how Paul Soter still keep the creepy thought out the whole movies, even nothing is hap ping in those scenes.
This was Paul Soter first horror movie but it not great but it was above average for me..
The acting was outstanding from everyone in this movie and Baby is cute! 7 out of 10
The Apparition (2012)
Not really sure what to make of this movie, It was kind of waste of time really, it was really all that creepy or that scary.
There were some strange scenes in this movie, that didn't make sense at times but I didn't really fully get what was going on.
I thought opening scenes was decent But that was the good part of the movie for me and acting was really poor and over the top in some scenes .
it was kind of boring and a some-what- predicable.
3 out of 10
Playback (2012)
This was not as thought it would be but it not all the great either.
I really liked the opening scenes in this movie, it kinds grabs you really fast but it shame next 20 minutes which I thought the movies was moving a little slow at times.
I liked the plot the movies, It bit like ring in so-what different way and I did enjoy some of death scenes in this movie.
What did annoy me the most about this movie, there are far to many of the flashing scenes in this movie, which may give some people Headache
I did not find the movie boring at all, it get intruded thoughout the whole movie.
The acting was not all great from most cast then were some decent well know actors in this movie.
I going to give this movie 4 out of 10 Worth watching!

Stitches (2012)
This movie is a British/Irish horror/Comedy movie
There were not much horror in this movie, this movie as some very funny moment with a lot of gore in this movie.
Stitche arrives late at Tom’s birthday, and attempts to entertain the children, but they instead ridicule him. Vinny ties Stitches shoelaces together, causing him to trip and land on a kitchen knife, and he dies. Tom visits Stitches’ grave and finds a group of clowns performing a ritual, and the group's leader, The Motley, threatens Tom.
Six years later, Tom is preparing for his seventeenth birthday and the same night Stitche arrives back from the dead.
This did have some really good decent jokes here and there, maybe laugh and now, I do think some ones jokes, were little over the top.
I loved over the top gory death scenes in this movie, really creative and also some of funniest deaths scenes I ever seen.
The acting could have been at a lot better and there movie jokes could be a lot funny,
The acting was okay for this kind of movie, not great but more then watch able acting.
The movie is very enjoyable fun and never gets boring at all but ending was predictable.
I would liked to rated this higher but the ones scene, which I did not find that funny at and scenes it self wasn't really write.
5 out of 10
ATM (2012)
I thought this was really decent movies and I thought the movies flowed really well , there was one good tense moment in the movies.
I didn't find this movie as intense as others movies that some kind of Same plot, it was very credible movie.
I wasn't to keen as the movies came to the end at all and I wished there explained ending a bit to why was person killing in first place.
The acting was really good from the small cast
5 out of 10
Madhouse (2004)
I loved the opening scene of this movies, it was very well made, it had some very stranger and it felt very surreal.
So the movies had it from the very first scenes and I really enjoyed the rest of the movie.
I found the whole movie flowed really well, well it wasn't fast or slow, it was not boring at at
I have some part of the movie very creepy and some tense moment in this movies, Which I thought were really good.
I really liked how they did the twist, you may see it coming but it done really well and I liked the very last scenes of the movie,
The deaths scenes were not that bad but I did not liked the affect some of death scenes were from screen.
The acting was really good from the whole cast
8 out of 10
The Haunting of Sarah Hardy (1989)
It sound like really good ghost with that title, this movie it not even close to A Ghost story at all.
Them movies start Sarah at her Dad funeral and mother at the wake think Sarah wished it was her, so she killed her self by drowning.
Few years later she moves in with her New Husband back into the house but she start losing the plot.
No really spook or any kind atmosphere scene at all and it takes a while to get really in the movies, I which found some part dragged and bored me to death,
The twist and turns in this movie were so Predicable that it was Ridicules, just like the script.
I don't get me started on atrocious ending of this dreadful movie,
There only one good think I can say about this movie, that some of Acting was decent but some of it was really bland
2 out of 10
The Haunting of Seacliff Inn (1994)
I find this bit silly, a couple who see house that they liked but old lady still there, that night the lady is killed and is found the next day.
So they get House that quick and they want to make in a Hotel thing. Few odd thing happen at times but there to far part and that really that effecting at all and it kind of drag in some part of the movie.
Which dose make a bit boring at times and there near the last 15-20 minutes thing start to kick off again and They tried to turn a very slow movie in to a very pace movie for few minutes,
which I Don't think flowed that well with the rest of the movie at all
It was not that scary or creepy at all, it was Ghost story one or two spooky moment that really.
3 out of 10
The Haunting of Helen Walker (1995)
Now this what you call a good chiller, I really enjoyed it, it dose take long to get to the creepy parts, they worked really well.
There are to far apart from each other and they not just there for one Jump scenes, you see this ghost for more then 20's seconds.
I loved the Raining window scenes was really well shot and very creepy how movie was fixed on that the whole time,
The Kid in this movie was creepy but I think they were a little to cute to laugh like that.
I really enjoyed this movie, I know it updated version Turn of the Screw (There are few of these out there)
The acting was outstanding from the whole cast and Kids were great too
I going to give this movie 8 out of 10
THE CONJURING (2013)
I didn't let those rave reviews get to me and I didn't get my hope up like I did last year with Sinister , which I thought trailer was great but the movie was HUGE let down and found the movie very boring and dull and not creepy or at all scary, other part of the movie that really annoyed me and I fell sleep in some scenes
So that is the reason I didn't get hope up to much for this year Horror movie THE CONJURING (2013) , First of all the trailer did make this look it was going to full of those scary jumps scene that don't last for then one two seconds and I do think they showed a little to much in the trailer.
I clad I didn't get my hope up to high for this movie, it was really good horror movie, it dose not any new ground that not already seen.
Saying that I did really enjoy the whole movie, I found that did prefer the first half of the movie, where the strange thing started to happen to each member of the family.
There were some really good decent creepy scenes in the movie that lasted much longer then those 2 seconds jump scarce you normal see in horror movie these days.
Other think I liked about this movie they didn't really try to make you jump at all they wanted to creepy you and keep you clued to the screen the on time.
I wasn't to keen on last half hour of the movie, it cause it seen those scenes done many times in the recent years, it get a bit boring and very predicable however the scenes it was not boring
which is a really good thing.
I was hoping for more of aftermath of the thing that just happened but it ended a bit soon after the story came to a end.
I didn't get what last scenes about could not make What I meant to be seeing!
it was very good and very creepy horror! (Another really good horror movie from 2013)
7 out of 10
Today
Fright Night Part 2 (1988)
I don't think sequel was really needed. it didn't really add anything to the series at all.
I liked the first movie series very much, one few vamp movies that I actually like,
I thought the movie started of a little slow, I bored about the whole , I didn't really like how the movie started off.
After the 40 min mark, movie start get going, thing start to REAL happen, a lot action scenes in this movie.
I didn't find this movie that funny at all, I don't think I laughed once or even smiled
Some the effects were not as good or as fun as the first movie but still better then some of effect with get horror movies these days.
The acting was good but the plot could have be a lot better, I yet to Remake and upcoming sequel to this remake. (I don't think it be as good as the first movie)

I had seen this before, but it had been a while. I really love this movie, despite it being panned by the critics. I thought the story/premise was interesting. Frankenstein's Army (2013)
http://www.thehollywoodnews.com/wp-content/uploads/Frankensteins-Army-Poster-Image-Featured.jpg
Unfortunately, Worse Case Scenario never go made and that project morphed into this film but it'sstill a solid low budget horror movie. This 'found footage' horror follows a squad of Soviet troop plus a cameraman (making a propaganda film) behind German lines. They stumble on an old factory where a descendant of the infamous Baron Frankenstein is continuing his experiments in animating the dead - this time for the glory of the 3d reich. This brings about the film main Raison d'être, to show case the weird, wonderful and sometime ridiculous Nazi Flesh Golems. It a fun film and does well to hide its low budget despite some of the monster chase scenes remind me of Scooby Doo :-)

This movie had some very creepy moment that worked really with really good tense before some very gross moment and some of death scenes were really gory and very well done.

Wheew what a ride!
In this contemporary era of found-footage/zombie films galore, comes a film which serves a superb dose of nice, old-fashioned horror.
The makers have pulled out all the stops to make this as scary as possible, and it's a great thing. The film oozes atmosphere and foreboding unlike any film in recent times, and the best part is that the sense of creepy terror grabs you even in the day scenes.
I agree with Villain that it will feel like a mish-mash of several classic horrors of the 70s/80s (the film's events are set in 1971 so that's no surprise), but that's a factor which works for this film, and wonderfully well! There's some great background scores which help maintain the tenseness throughout, none more than the family theme which is composed by Mark Isham (fans of the man will instantly recognise his name at the beginning of the end credits). I loved the last 30 minutes, when it grabs the viewer by the scruff of the neck and pounds the horrors into his senses (unlike the Evil Dead remake which went from eye-roll to eye-roll in the final few).
I'll be first in line if they ever make a sequel to this one. Would love to know more about that very creepy doll - hope it gets a starring part in the sequel.
Highly recommended. Definitely getting the BD/DVD as soon as it releases.
P.S. - Don't watch it after midnight, specially if you live in a creaky, old house.

Neverending will be happy to read this one: Repulsion
Thoroughly enjoyed it, Catherine Deneuve (sp?) was excellent. I agree with NE, you all need to see this film.
Yeah this is a good one. I only saw it recently. Like a few years ago. Very surprising.
Chernobyl Diaries -
I wasn't in a rush to watch this "movie." I only got the chance to see it at a friend's on Cinemax. Ingrid Bolsø Berdal was the only reason I added the movie to my watch list. She was in Cold Prey. Which was pretty good. But the premise of Chernobyl Diaries was predictable to me. Little did I know not only would the movie be predicable but it's not really a "movie" either. It comes off more like a student film or experiment by the director. An "I bet we can make a horror movie here on the cheap" type thing. It's not scary at all. Not in the look or feel. In fact the best horror moments were a scene with an animal and an abandoned fountain area. The only thing this film got right was the casting of the girls. They are all beautiful and fairly interesting. The final girl should get better parts in the future as she had a strong performance.
Additional - Even the premise of this movie is stupid. Only the final girl is smart in not wanting to go originally. If some one told you let's go to a fallout area no one in their right mind would want to go. And I get many people do dumb things when they are young. But survival sense usually kicks in. Yet I guess one day we will see a "let's go swimming near Fukushima movie" eventually. Just because people might just want to see it.

I'm on the fence with this one. It was watchable, but not very good. It is an American remake of an Asian ghost story, and after watching it I felt like I needed to see the original. For some reason Asian horror just loses something in translation.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D- 7/10
This film is a pretty decent remake. The acting was surprisingly good for a film like this. In some ways, it feels more like a modern sequel than a remake. The films is far from brilliant and it could easily be argued that the original was better, but it is still a very entertaining film.
Note: I had seen this one before, but it had been a while.
Storm of the Century (1999): 10/10
I watched this film earlier today and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The story/premise was both interesting and unique. The acing was excellent and the character development equally excellent. Additionally, I found it was quite creepy. Furthermore, the atmosphere was perfect. It is pretty long (about four hours), but it never has a dull moment. Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

Fans of the Wright/Pegg/Frost productions won't be disappointed.

The Bay
Another "found footage" documentary style horror flick, but this one feels a bit more "real" than most, and actually seems plausible as you watch it. The creatures are deliciously disgusting, and the plot simple and tight. Recommend.
8/10

Opera (1987): 9/10
I watched this film for the first time today and I really enjoyed it. This film is likely to be one of my favorite Argento films (I have also seen Suspiria and Deep Red, which were really good too). There is a very artistic quality to it. Plus, it was great as a mystery (which is an aspect of giallo). Also, there were several quite suspenseful scenes. The acting was not brilliant, but it was not bad. The plot was very unique and interesting. On that note, I had my suspicions of who the killer was (and my initial impressions proved ultimately correct), but by the end of the film I was not so sure. Overall, an excellent film, definitely worth a watch.
The Devil's Rejects (2005): 10/10
I watched this for the first time today and I loved it. I do not know if I love it more or less than the original (I would say I love them equally in their own way). I loved that Michael Berryman (who played the most famous cannibal in The Hills Have Eyes) had a cameo and I also loved how the Marx Brothers were part of the plot. For some reason, I never put two and two together on the Marx Brothers and these films (by the way, I am a big Marx Brothers fan). As for the film, there were some tremendous performances and even more brilliant direction. I thought Zombie direction with this film was very unique. I also liked how this and House of 1000 Corpses both were able to have a very 70s feel. I had conflicted feelings with the characters in this film (especially at the end). I felt the sheriff went way too far and was nearly as bad as the main family, while simultaneously I wanted him to be successful because this family was extremely terrible. All of this amounts to an excellent film, in my opinion. Also, the music in the film was pretty good too (especially the end song). Anyway, an all-around excellent film, in my opinion.

Terrible but surprisingly gory manhunt film with DeNiro and Travola. Worth watching for John's face hair.
Cutter's Way (1981)
Interesting, well written and amazingly acted movie. Not sure it it entirely worked for me but John Heard stole the show as the alkie crippled nam vet..

Excellent, gripping narrative, with some brilliant use of visuals, cinematography and background scores. But, if you are a parent, this will profoundly affect you in more ways than one. Highly recommended.

"Dog Pound" 8/10
Violent prison movie with terrfic performances, especially from the boy playing Butch.
The ending was a little weird tho in all its suddenness.
Olympus Has Fallen
think Die Hard in the White House
Bullet To The Head
mindless Stallone action movie....fine for what it was
The Gangster Squad
didn't hate it.....could have been paced better

This is actually a remake the the British film(s), Scum. If you have not seen it you should check it out. (there are 2 versions by the same director - I prefer the 2nd).

Will do. Thanks.

'The Pact' - meh. Though I liked the spinning cut-in-half-woman ghost photograph bit. It had some good suspense, but the cringe-worthy acting and the fact that they stabbed 'Lt. Rico' unceremoniously in the neck before he had a chance to do anything interesting put me off.
