After seeing DAD's clip, had to check this out again. Extremely bizarre film which I think is supposed to focus on the travails of childhood although none of the kids here are bargains, especially Seth. He lives with his extremely bizarre parents (especially his Mother-You'll never hear the word "Water" again and not think of how it's used here), becomes convinced that a greiving Widow living nearby is a Vampire and has set her eyes on his returning from war older Brother (A young Viggo Mortensen, very good here; his reaction at the end is powerful indeed). As the budding romance continues to build, Seth tries to intervene, but finds there is a cost to pay...
As mentioned, quite bizarre and many people I've shown it to did not like it ("It was Stupid!" was the standard reply; To be sure, not for everyone. But check it out for Yourself. Incredible photography, many quirky characters ("Sheriff Ticker" for one, especially when He's relating to Seth about his Law enforcement career) and truly one of the biggest attention grabbing openings ever. ****

Sounds intriguing. Even though it's totally different description than what Eraserhead is about, that's what can to mind. I usually dont care for films about kids, with the exception of films like Lean On Me, which are very rare.

"The Craft: Legacy" 4-5/10

First half hour was one big cringefest. Rest of the movie wasn't much better and it never really picked up any pacing or tension.

I'm clearly not the target audience, which is probably teens (especially females).

There was 1 thing I liked though. And nope, it wasn't David Duchovny's wooden acting, but instead the guy playing the bully turned into a sensitive goody two shoes. I thought he was really good and deserved to be in a better movie than this.

Hard Boiled (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104684/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0): When it comes to mindless rollercoaster rides and popcorn fun, this is how it's done. The action set pieces deliever, Chow Yun-Fat is a badass in this one and John Woo puts himself on the map. Oh yeah, and Kwok Chung-Feng made for a memorable bad guy.

I was expecting a comedy horror that is meant to be stupid but funny from this one, but it turned out to be a serious horror film that is actually pretty scary and intense with plenty of twists and turns near the end. The ediitng and picture quality are not the best, but aside from that, I found it worth a look and I might look at this one again. ::danger::

After seeing the first one, and finding it worth a look, I decided to look at this one. It is not related to the first film, as this is taking place in the United States with total different people. Even the Mother Krampus in this one is a total different lady that has nothing to do with the Mother Krampus in the first one. This one is more of a comedy horror that is entertaining, and it keeps interest. It is not great like most of the Krampus movies, but still worth a look for at least one time. ::cool::

Bad Boys for Life.
Well...unlike the latest "distant" sequels I've seen (Bill & Ted/Jay and Silent Bob) this one actually managed to feel connected to it's franchise...which honestly surprised me. Props to Will Smith for keeping his character the same...with how kind of family friendly he's been over the last decade this was actually a nice surprise that showed respect to the initial installments.
I didn't want to see it...I was pretty sure it would be horseshit...but it managed to be a decent (albeit explodey) action film with a nice balance of comedy sprinkled throughout. They didn't pull many stops on this one though...few things I really wasn't expecting.
It's competent, even though it felt a bit like spinoff bait.
If you liked the first 2, I don't see you being disappointed in this. Is it *as good*, maybe not, but close.

Bill & Ted Face the music.
Meh. Fuck off with this shit. 10 years ago was bordering on "too late" if you ask me...and the guys absolutely slept through their parts, with Teds daughter doing a better Ted than he was.
Just felt pointless.
The humour was gone.
...and I really don't need to see anything with Kristen Schaal in it ever again, let alone Rufus' daughter FFS...what an insult.
Felt a bit too much like a loose rehash of the first one as well.
Also found it a bit chauvanist...where the two main guys look like walking dogshit (you see why Keanu wears a beard now, his face is melting) yet they replace the princess actresses with chicks 10 or more years their junior.
What a fucking flop.
Never again.

aa SUCK (2009).>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILERS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Absolute gem about a struggling Rock band ("The Winners", no less) whose lovely Female Bass Player (Jessica Pare::love::) , after being Vampirized, infects the rest of the band and they find success beyond their wildest dreams. Will they be able to control their urges and keep ahead of Eddie Van Helsing (Malcolm McDowell), a Vampire slayer who is afraid of the dark?
Writer/director/Star Rob Stefanuik does a terrific job on all counts and even writes much of the material "The Winners" perform in the film...real good and sounding a lot like Green Apple Quickstep,( a great indie band from the 90's whose 1995 LP RE-LOADED is highly recommended) along with other great songs by other artists and any film that has The Stooges "T.V. EYE"-twice to boot- is all right by Me.
Lots of reference to Classic Rock albums covers (We spotted ABBEY ROAD, ELECTRIC WARRIOR, THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT and BORN IN THE USA) and many Rock Stars in here like Moby (very much like GG Allin), Henry Rollins, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper and his Daughter Calico as well as a Canadian rocker who is hilarious as a Border Guard...it just wouldn't be cricket to reveal the name. ****

CASTLE FREAK (1995). Truly enjoyed RE-ANIMATOR and FROM BEYOND and knowing the Director and two Principals from both would be in here got me intrigued enough to add it to NETFLIX. A family inherits a castle in Italy and soon, all sorts of Skeletons are falling out of closets. Some nasty scenes, but the film is slowly paced and ultimately suffers when compared to its outrageous predecessors. **.

Some of the horror films I have seen since I last posted on here are "Krampus Unleashed," which I found pretty amazing and intense, keeping interest all the way through. I also saw a Bulgarian Christmas slasher film called "Christmas Slay," which is overall worth a look for a one time viewing, but there are scenes with sloppy editing, and it seems like they dragged it out here and there to make it feature length, which did not improve it. Aside from that last bit, it still has its moments and keeps interest, but not amazing or original. I also the two "Axemas" half hour long short Christmas slasher films that actually turned out to be pretty good with plenty of killer scenes, along with twists and turns to make it even more interesting and intense. ::danger::

While I agree that the set up is promising (every time you leave the car, you could die), I can't help but find that the characters were annoying and that the plot left too much unused. Just driving, yapping and arguing until the next beat.

Characters traits were shoehorned in for little or no purpose. The brother masturbated in a scene that said little more than "you are so dead". (because that's what teenage boys do, right?) From out of nowhere, the sister is pregnant, because she is so going to be the final girl. And while watching the ending, I half expected Bobby Ewing to step out of the shower.

So I was not really on board with this one, but I do see that I am clearly in the minority here.::wink::

In 2004 was still young and horrors were not that often available, as they are today. There were no streams available for me and I just installed internet and movies weren't on my list that much. ::big grin::. So I had to settle with what I found late nights on cable.

I agree If I would have seen it now, maybe the impact would have been different.

Still amazingly grimy and creepy film of two detectives, older methodical burned out one (an Excellent Morgan Freeman) showing the ropes to idealistic Enthusiastic upstart (Brad Pitt-annoying, but such pity You feel for him later). An excellent David Fincher film. Possibly his best, maybe 2nd to Fight Club. What do you think?

I do consider it a horror film, as it's truly horrific, which I think better classifies a horror than "scary", for good reason, thus the genre is Horror and not Scary. But I do understand those who consider it "Crime". I think Se7en is in line with with say Dressed to Kill (1980), which is more often associated with horror... IMDB classifies both these films as "Crime, Drama, Mystery". They are both 'suspense thrillers' as well. I think both Se7en and Dressed are very closely related to many Giallo films which folks seem to have an easier time calling horror. After just watching it, would you consider it a horror film?

I certainly consider SE7EN a horror film...such Dark places it goes to. Still haven't seen FIGHT CLUB, just bits here and there::embarrassment::

INDIAN SUMMER (1993). A group of 30-somethings get an invite to visit their old Summer Camp (A real one which the Director and others attended in their youth) where good memories and unresolved issues abound.
There is a LOT to enjoy here...the scenery is lovely, many thespians I like (particularly Bill Paxton and Diane Lane) and some truly funny bits here , especially "Jaime needs to not overwind his toys" and images of Spider-Man on the cabin walls and knowing that Sam Raimi , playing a bumbling Handyman, later went to great fame/fortune with the SPIDER-MAN franchise about ten years later.
Sadly, I found almost all returning campers to be incredibly superficial to incredibly annoying...have heard this compared to THE BIG CHILL (not seen and doesn't sound promising) and thusly, IS is not as good as it could have been. **1/2

200 Degrees: (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4762592/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) Not sure what to make of this one.

The story of the investment broker whose slick image falls apart was pretty well done and Eric Balfour does a good job. You can see his growing despair as the story unfolds.

I noticed echoes of Phone Booth in there, though this voice sounds a bit silly at times (also sounds menacing some times, but still). Still doesn't touch on Kiefer Sutherland's performance as The Caller, though. Also, the ending was too convoluted to do the rest of the film justice.

Oh, good grief. This was so depressing. I may have been gut punched before I started watching this, for good reason, but this wasn't just somber, it has no uplifting resolution, not as far as I can see. If this was puzzling, at least that would have been thought provoking. This was malaise.

The title Doomsday (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0483607/?ref_=hm_rvi_tt) is not very imaginative and neither is this film. It starts off as a dystopian future where a virus has surfaced in Glasgow, making sure Scotland is cut off from the rest of the UK. Then, a cure is found and a team is sent out, after which the film devolves into a poor man's Mad Max where the baddies speak with a Scottish accent. Which is mibbe jist a wee bit silly.

So there is a lot to be said and desired. But it has a badass heroin, some okay action beats, an appearance by Malcolm McDowell, and - since it's a Britsh film - a fairly decent soundtrack.

We Can Be Heroes (2020)
6/10

Kids with super powers are tasked to save their parents/world from alien invaders.

It's a bit clunky and/or kiddie with the dialogue, acting and some of the shot selection, but it's how the director does it, and different is usually nice. It's not particularly heartwarming. The story and execution is very cliché for 2020. And the resolution, though unexpected, is cringeworthy syrupy.

From Dusk Till Dawn 8/10

Tremors 7/10

Been many, many, many years since the last time I saw these two flicks.

I remember the first time I saw From Dusk Till Dawn I throught it was one of the best horror movies I'd ever seen. Fast forward to today and after watching From Dusk Till Dawn I started on Tremors, and at the 30 minutes mark I was thinking to myself; Man, has my taste in movies changed as I've matured? Tremors is just better paced and the tongue-in-cheek dialogue better written. Then the next hour went and, no, I hadn't matured one bit.

So without further ado, here's From Dusk Till Dawn vs Tremors.

1. When it comes to the lead actors I thougt both Clooney and Bacon played their
characters very, very well and they both did a rock solid job. So that's a tie.

2. When it comes to dialogue Tremors is just more clever written where From
Dusk Till Dawn just so badly wants to be cool that it becomes tiresome before
the halfway mark. Heck, they might as well have Clooney just saying "I'm a
bad ass" throughout the entire movie. Actually, that would have been hilarious.

3. Story wise Tremors leads in the first third as both dialogue and pacing is great.
But then they got stuck on a rock. And after that they get stuck on a roof. And
after that they got stuck on a tractor. And after that they get stuck on a rock
again. The end. Just gets waaaay too repetitive. Probably due to a limited
budget.

So I considered giving them the same rating, but no, the limited progression in Tremors weighted it down too much.

I HAVE SPOKEEEEEN!!!

Just wondering about two things: Did the original resurrect the child earlier in the film? And maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed like this ending was darker than the original.

That will be interesting to watch. I co-owned and ran an escape room for 3 years, and we'd go to haunted house/escape room conventions, so I'm really interested to see how they do and get on with the HHs.

I watched the rather lengthy 4 min trailer... which makes it look like they cover a few different haunted houses, not just one of a local costume/magic shop owner. Is it one haunt or a bunch of different ones? Looks like it includes one or more extreme ones. I saw a doc on one extreme one, where people agree to be tortured some... some of folks in Haunters looks like the extreme peps in the other doc.

I see what you mean. The trailer i watched seems to have nothing to do with the movie I saw. But there seem to be a few movies with the same name. The one i watched is one house, Phobia House and one family that own the Timid Rabbit magic shop. Takes place in Michigan.

Found Footage 3D (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3449006/?ref_=hm_rvi_tt): About half a dozen people go out to make "the first ever found footage film in 3D" (How do I feel about 3D? Sure. Fine. Whatever.) with a real life divorcing couple making a film about a couple with marriage problems.

Douchy McDouche leads the production and hits on Lily The Intern with his wife within hearing and seeing distance. Lovely, right? Meanwhile, she flirts with The Nice Kid. Then there's the sound guy Zach Galifianakis (who comes across as the seen it all before type) and Adrian Edmondson comes across as the voice of reason (until he finally snaps too).

Overall, I kinda liked it. It was self aware in a good way, partly because of some likable characters, even though I could not remember all their names. Also, in this one, I don't find the overdone snark that you see in a lot of other horror films. Feels like they wanted to add a layer of pastiche and they did that (kinda) well. Also, towards the end, it delivered a bit in the scares department. Especially with the final shot, which is predictable, but gets the job done.

Loved the TV series when little-it also got Me interested in all Supernatural areas. After watching the whole run (after Barnabas arrives) over four years recently, Goodness knows there are LOTS of dead spots and big servings of Corn and Ham. But it had its own quirky charm and I feel it's aged pretty well for a 50 something year Low budget serial.

Had high expectations for this as knew Burton and Depp were big fans. I can't complain at all about the exteriors, approve of how Johnny all but nails Barnabas's twitchiness and rocking score (especially the Alice Cooper spots and "Sick of You " by Iggy and The Stooges)

I can complain about the totally wretched script...there are some amusing lines (especially about Alice Cooper), but it tries too hard to be "Hip" and the reveal about Carolyn is stupid. Way too much sex in here and I just lost all hope when Julia gives Barnabas the Blow Job in her office...what were they thinking? Such a wasted opportunity! Gave Hereditary a re-watch, picked up some things I didn't understand before, i really like this movie, the annoying mommy boy, crazy grieving mom, logical annoyed dad family self destruction due to girls death is pretty sad, the deaths were creative, and it left me wondering what was gonna happen after the ending, left a lot to the imagination....

https://i.pinimg.com/originals/d8/f5/7e/d8f57e0e9258d1c1a8b91f5a8d002a03.gif

I saw Hereditary recently for the first time. It reminded me of The Witch. Which I thought was a far better take on the realistic horror movie. At least a horror movie that doesn't scream horror to normal audiences but more family trauma I guess. That's what I thought I was going to see as I kept hearing about the lead actress performance. Hereditary actually explains what's going on when the Mother character reads about it in a book or journal. I can't remember which. But you could tell something was happening with the strange light effect that happened a few times. And of course the chanting people.

And although what happens to a character early on is really harsh. When you remember what happened in a few earlier scenes. Plus the revelation of the character. Then it loses it's impact. At least for me.

Kind of a spoiler but I also thought Autopsy of Jane Doe was a lot better than Hereditary as well. I wasn't going to watch that one but it was recommended by a bunch of people here.

Also I hated the son character in Hereditary. I thought he was supposed to be adopted. Which I guess would have made more sense to the story.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
6/10

Director David Fincher' crafty looking film, starring Daniel Craig... the decades old death of a young lady is investigated funded by the uncle of the deceased. Although the opening was intriguing, I thought the overall 2.5 hours of the film was a bit exhausting and confusing. The confusion I had, with pretty much all of it, really stems from the fact, as an audience member, I really didn't care about the characters, nor was I particularly curious to get any answers to 'questions' presented in the film.

Midnight Special (2016)
6/10

A boy with supernatural powers is driven to particular a set of coordinates while FBI agents pursue. Somewhat entertaining, but the main characters were rather wooden and lacked depth especially in relation to the story. Overall, it wasn't particular exciting. And mystery and reveal was rather one dimensional, having no relation to the characters needs and desires.

Initially, I was looking forward to the film. Then, I heard they made it as a comedy. The TV series is sacred to me. I remember running home from school every day to watch it. Now I'm glad I skipped it.

Be glad You didn't see it. It seems everyone in our age range mentions "Running Home from School to watch it". I certainly did, especially in Kindergarten and getting to the TV right after ONE LIFE TO LIVE was ending. Really got into it during the 1795 Flashback (still the Best part of the series) and certainly recall being scared witless on some episodes (The Dream Curse, for example, that Skull with Eyeballs was too much!).
The DS comics were OK , although the Marilyn Ross novels had too much romance in them for Me. The Holy Grail for all things DARK SHADOWS was getting THE BARNABAS COLLINS DARK SHADOWS Game for Christmas 1970. Many a game played with Me and friends with the Fangs becoming "Communal"..I guess Third Grade Boys had other things to worry about then washing the Fangs between games::shocked::!.
Also recall many conversations about the show, especially noticing how Jonathon Frid spoke with only his lower teeth showing and we were wondering how he kept the fangs out of sight until blood time. The best answer We could think of was He had them folded in the back of his mouth until it was time to use them-if only that was the most pressing thing to think of these days::sad::.
Although I thought the show wasn't as good as it had been, April 1971 was sad as the showiest off the air and trying to find other ways to fill that spot. Can't believe it will be 50 years this April...I feel old::sad::::sad::.

Never saw the series but hated the movie.
Looked kind of promising...but in the end, to me it just took turns between bland and overly stupid. I actually found it a complete drag to watch.
...I mean look, I did love the "Reveal yourself, tiny songstress!" bit, but that's what, less than a minute of the film...not good, not good at all, Dave.

My favorite part of the film was the opening sequence of the train traversing through the forest to the tune Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues on the big screen. That was pleasant enough to justify the price of admission, cause I was also with two good friends, one of which was a big fan. The rest of the film was interesting. Since I wasn't familiar with the Dark Shadows TV series, which was before my time, I didn't have to face the let down. ::big grin::

The Alphabet Killer (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0818165/?ref_=hm_rvi_tt) was a pretty run of the mill serial killer flick. Eliza Dushku stars a cop that goes crazy, investigating the case of The Alphabet Killer (Apparently based on a real life case). Then there's Cary Elwes as her fiancé/superior officer and Tom Noonan, now as a cop (which is funny because he once played a child killer on the X-Files).

The plot follows a lot of the beats of the genre: the obsessive cop going off the rails, you're off the case!, third act plot twist, fighting with the colleague and then turning him around,... Would make for a good double feature with Kiss The Girls.

My wife felt Don Briscoe (The Jennings Bros) was the best looking male. Although Kathryn Leigh Scott and Nancy Barrett were very pretty, I always though Lara Parker was way hot, especially when Angelique was a Vampire...almost Ingrid Pitt-ish before THE VAMPIRE LOVERS!

I only have HODS of DVD, good copy, but wish there were some extras. Saw it at "The Owl Show" at our local theater in June 1974 and amazed at how much more violent/bloody it was compared to the series.

As mentioned earlier, lots of silliness, but learning more about the show, unless someone really dropped the ball, there were no retakes. They basically did the show live 5 days week and I think the Bloopers add some charm to it, as the performers aren't hindered by them.

Bloof, does Meredith Baxter Birney play Betty in this one? It's a fascinating case and truly gives merit to the saying "Hell Hath No Fury like that of a Woman Scorned". The book UNTIL THE TWELTH OF NEVER is very good and although both of them were to blame for the tragic events, would put more of the blame on Dan for not being honest and giving her an equal split. Seems He really had a Death Wish the way He kept poking the Bear (Betty's Boyfriend after the split called her "The Bear")

So... A franchise with a good part being straight to DVD and a reputation for becoming ever more trashy with each installment. I wonder what kind of money they made from this that could warrant a reboot, but okay.

This one seems to be aiming for genuine scares again, but the trailer and DBAD's review don't look promising.

One more thing: Is three finger in this one?

I thought that was a pointless sequel. The first movie is great. They chickened out on the ending in America. The UK version has the true ending.

The Rental -

The Rental is on demand so I checked it out.

I have mixed feelings about The Rental. On one hand, it does have a good title as the movie is worth a rental. I wouldn't own it. But at times the movie is pretty good. It's better than the Friday the 13th remake. And at parts I thought it was going to be better than the original Friday the 13th. Although I'm not the biggest fan of the original Friday the 13th, I like Part 2 far more. Besides Part 2 has basically the best parts of Friday the 13th at the beginning.

Why I mention Friday the 13th is because it starts off like a horror movie with the people going to a remote location. Instead of a wooded camp with teenagers we have a luxury house on a cliff with adults. But more Friday the 13th elements are there like drug use, breaking rules, late night party, shower scene (without nudity), creepy guy, etc. The movie even has a twist. However to get to the rest of the review I need to spoil the movie.

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

Ok. When the movie starts, they show a man and a woman looking at the luxury house. I thought they were married or a couple but they are business partners. It's one of those odd things in that some people say they don't understand relationships. But to me, only the wrong people get in relationships with people just for physical appearance. You have to have something in common. So after that first scene, the woman's boyfriend walks in and it's the other guy's brother. You can easily see where this is going. Anyway these three characters along with the first guy's wife decide to have a couples vacation at this luxury house.

The movie is basically a horror movie style relationship drama. The obvious happens. The wife goes to sleep early. The first guy's brother passes out. Late night drug use and a hot tub scene with the business partners who I thought were a couple at the beginning leads to a shower meet up. I guess some people like this sort of dramatic stuff and it's ok in the movie because it leads to something else. The house has hidden cameras! It's the part where I stopped watching the trailer.

The business partners are afraid that the video will be on the Internet I guess. So not only do they have to keep a secret but they want to get the video from the creepy rental guy. I'm not going to spoil that much more but things spiral out of control due to the brother and his tendencies as he just got out of jail for a college fight. Then that twist happens which made me think of Friday the 13th even more.

I was very interested in the movie. Could this be a modern Friday the 13th? The killer is acting like a modern Jason. But then it does something so many modern horror movies do. It turns the killer into the hero at the end. Now I get that the couples aren't the best people. The wife who brings the drugs. The ex-con brother. The two cheating business partners. The guy of which doesn't care about starting new relationships while being in a relationship. But still I was hoping for a final girl type setup or something new and different. There are some great funny and scary scenes late in the movie. But in the end, I was like ok. A sequel might work and make this a good double feature but the killer would easily get caught.

Still it's worth a rental or checking out on demand. It's a short movie. Also, the wife character was in Scream 4. She's pretty good in The Rental. I think she's kind of popular but I've only seen her in these two movies.

Like the chicks in the underwater cave? Some kinda bat type things?

Seen "The Ruins"?

Wasn't that "The Cave"?

I googled "The Cave". They do sound alike. Could be the one Cheebs means but ""The Cave" had men on the team as well.

I agree she was the villain of the first movie, up until a certain point then I thought they actually switched places. Her fate certainly didn’t fit her crime.

In the second movie though she was just a bad ass.

Have to disagree on that one. I felt her punishment more than fit the crime. I don't want to spoil it for TaeKwonZombie who hasn't seen it yet. We still don't have spoiler tags yet.

Yeah speed up the viewing on The Descent. It's one of the best modern horror movies. I hope you didn't read too much of our posts. Best to go in blank and be surprised at the events.

Aquaslash -

I watched this because someone posted the trailer on HorrorDVDs forum. The movie was short but it felt long because it was so bad.

The movie feels like a really bad 80s horror movie or one of those horror porn parodies that someone told me about. I searched and watched a few minutes of those back then. It's the same bad quality acting for the most part except Aquaslash has a few softcore porn scenes thrown in and not the real deal. The scenes in Aquaslash are crude and in bad taste as well. It's just garbage High School kids on drugs and graduates I guess wanting to relive their High School years acting stupid. A no point movie. Zero likeable characters. Just watch the trailer and you will see enough.

Also some spoilers.

SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!! SPOILERS!!!

SPOILERS!!!

Ok. They have nerve to want to make some kind of sequel I guess because there is a scene right before the main credits start. I didn't even get why it all happened. Two female characters looked kind of similar and had the same characteristics. Only at the end did I tell them apart.

If they made that final kill scene as the start of a real movie. It might be a good start. That final sequence is so mean spirited though. It's like the director really hated High School kids or people who enjoyed waterslides.

This movie did make me remember why I stopped going to public water areas. I got older and noticed that people weren't that clean. Some wouldn't shower before getting into the pool, would joke about using the bathroom in the pool, and I hated the strong smell of chlorine in the bigger pools. The last public pool I was in had a cockroach in it that crawled on me while I was on the edge.

Edit - I was curious about pool water, searched and read this:

"The pre-swim shower helps minimize the irritating, smelly substances formed in pool water when impurities introduced on the bodies of swimmers combine with chlorine. Many people identify that smell as the smell of chlorine. The survey found 38 percent of people believe the characteristic chemical odor of some swimming pools in an indicator of a clean pool. In fact, that stringent odor is not from chlorine, but from irritants produced when chlorine reacts with impurities. A well-managed pool has no strong chemical smell."

That really upsets me. I'm even reading articles basically calling some pools "communal bathtubs" because that's what some people use them as. And it's what happens when people don't shower before entering the water.

Dark Whispers: vol 1 2-3/10
Dark Whispers is a horror anthology consisting of 10 short stories all made by female directors, which leaves the question, are women incapable of making good horror movies?

Anyone who knows the concept of fear can tell scary stories.

Chaps,

A bit of help.
I am trying to remember this movie, has to be late 90s, early 2000.

A slasher movie, the killer wears a woman's clothing and hunts a girl after previously trying to kill her when she was a kid.
The plot twist is she is actually the killer, she got his identity after killing him when she was a kid.
Also, I think the movie opens with a couple being slashed in a train cabin.

Does anything recall something similar?

Maybe so, but to then go from one thing to another is a pretty big leap.

Besides, most horrors are made by men, so that includes the crappy ones. ::wink::

For some people it might be so bad it’s good. I’m not one of those people.

The story is unbelievably stupid and it isn’t even a comedy. Just one big missed opportunity.

THE WITCH (2015). Extremely well done film involving a banished Calvinist family trying to make a go outside their community, set in 17th century. Impressed with the costuming, sets, dialect (subtitles might help) and showing how difficult Day to Day life could be, especially with odd goings on that may be Supernatural. No real Gruesome or Jump scares, but a sense of unease that continues to build throughout. ****

3rd Night (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5980242/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) was a bit of a slow burner with more tension towards the end. Overall enjoyable, with one of point of criticism: the ending should be a bit more subtle (too on the nose now, that's not what made Pamela Voorhees scary) and the minutes before that a bit less subtle (ie, show the kills).

Da 5 Bloods (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9777644/?ref_=hm_rvi_tt) was a gripping tale about comraderie and betrayal, about spite and forgiveness (and love), about how war can scar people for the rest of their life and how it can create bonds for life. Not just between the soldiers.

While on a surface level, it may be not all that easy to sympathise with the somewhat brass Paul, he turns out to be one of the most layered and complex characters I have seen in a while. Once you look past his episodes where he lashes out, you can see a man who's deeply hurt.

Well worth seeing.

The new "Wrong Turn" reimagining? Potential side-quel? Who knows.
It was alright.
Don't go in expecting the same kind of movie.
It kind of feels like Deliverance meets Far Cry 5?
Not much of a comparative gore factor to the rest, but perhaps a more fully realised and interesting back story.
I'm gonna say 6.5/10...would have got a 7 if it was trying to be it's own film.
