I'd like to see this. Like to learn more about Chaplin. The only memorable performance for Downey I remember is from Back to School (a bit part where he was wearing a princely outfit) and Tropic Thunder.
Another movie that I was impressed with his performance was Less Than Zero.

Another movie that I was impressed with his performance was Less Than Zero.
That also looks more logical to me. Maybe it's because of his performance in Natural Born Killers, but playing a callous character seems to be right up his alley.

[QUOTE=Sculpt;1039035]So what sets off Bruce Willis? I hope it's not the same, home invasion, wife killed, daughter raped. I really wouldn't want to sit through that, but the rest of the film interests me.
Trying not to give too much away....
The catalyst that sets him off is pretty much the same, although it's not as graphic as I would have surmised. Lots of updates for the current times we live in.

WRONG TURN (2003). Thought back then and after watching this again recently that WT is probably one of the Best horror films of the new Century. While it's a little too obvious for the set up (very 70's ), I find it extremely grim and intense although not too gory, Normally, there's always at least one person who You want to meet a bad end, but I pretty much liked all the characters in here and was rooting for them.
Have not seen any of the sequels, but the general consensus seems that all of them are seriously lacking. Any info from anyone? ****

You're asking about any info on Wrong Turn sequels right? I haven't seen any. I didn't have a great impression of Wrong Turn the one time I saw it. To me they seemed to act way too hostile and impersonal to be family. So that irked me, and so it felt a bit fakey to me, especially the delivery of the lines, almost a kind of stagey. But I know I'm in the minority and lots of folks on here really liked Wrong Turn. I like The Twilight Zone material, so this was up my alley... but maybe I just wasn't feeling it that night.

Midsommar (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8772262/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1) lived up to the expectations.
Once things really get going, the film has a trippy atmosphere, which makes it captivating. While one or two things were predictable (the election, the rocks), they never got to the point of being genuinely annoying.
Great stuff.

I had a lot of fun with this. The nostalgia factor is is HIGH of course but I’m not gonna lie, I giggle and got very excited every time a new story title would scroll across the screen, giddy in anticipation for how it would be represented.
I thought that the individual stories were well done and actually pretty creepy for a PG-13 horror movie! There was only one that I thought they messed up on a little but it is what it is.
I still wish it was just a straight up anthology without the wraparound story but, hey, this movie isn’t FOR me. It’s for YA fledgling horror fans who are going to watch this and love it.

Have that coming from NETFLIX in a couple of days!
RESERVOIR DOGS (1992). Extremely ballsy debut film by Quentin Tarantino about a Jewelry heist that goes horribly wrong and surviving gangsters wonder who is the "Rat" in their group. Very violent, very profane, but very funny throughout, particularly the Breakfast table topics and assignment of names. Great acting by the small cast, particularly Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi and Michael Madsen, who crumples up the loving FREE WILLY dad into one of the most frightening villains in recent years. Although QT calls his films "Homages", he has lifted from several films throughout with ideas/plots from THE BIG COMBO, THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE and particularly THE KILLING. Had heard this was good and remember getting it from BLOCKBUSTER and watching it with Wife and mutual friend. Knew nothing about the story and when "That" scene arrived, lots of protests and "WTF?'s" being thrown out::big grin::
Still has held up quite well and definitely one to view. ****1/2

I didn't really understand this movie. The deadpan humor and acting throughout takes away any sense of urgency or danger from the pointless, meandering zombies. The script turn meta, with self referential moments such as “I've read the script and it doesn't end well”. That was never explained further how these characters know they're in a movie. There's a plot thread regarding kids that doesn't go anywhere at all, it's just completely dropped, and a character that turns out to be something else entirely that's never explained further. This movie just didn't really work on any level. I believe it was going for comedy, and there were a couple of fun lines I guess, but I wouldn't call this funny. I was engaged throughout but mainly because I kept wondering where they were going with the meta stuff, and was disappointment when they didn't go anywhere with it at all.

BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY (2018). This biopic gets extreme kudos for casting (nice to see actors look like the person they are playing, especially the actor playing Bassist John Deacon), terrific soundtrack and an excellent re-creation of LIVE AID. However, the storyline is a little dodgy with presenting the proper timeline and the purist in me deplores how many of the songs are not in chronological order; eg "Fat Bottomed Girls" came out a few years AFTER "Bohemian Rhapsody". You think as producers, Brian and Roger would have paid attention to that.
Still, good film, Rami is superb as Freddie and if nothing else, it might inspire more people to check out some of those amazing albums. ***1/2

Isn’t the entire movie one long interview?
I think yes and no from what I remember about Lake Mungo. I recall liking the twist and documentary style of the movie. Not enough to own. But it was worth a watch. It was probably on FearNet then. I searched and didn't review it here though. I probably wasn't a member of the forum back then.

Well it's shot like a documentary. It's a mocumentary style that is investigating the potentially supernatural events that happened after the drowning of the girl, mainly through the interviewing of her family and friends about the events.
I enjoyed it and it did well with critics. Definitely worth a watch unless you definitively can't stand mockumantaries.

HIS NAME WAS JASON (2009). Decent doc on the FRIDAY, THE 13th franchise hosted by Tom Savini with interviews from directors, victims, production staff, fans etc. Was released prior to the 2009 reboot, which I've not seen (is on NETFLIX queue) and although most of the F13 films are sub par, this was still a fun watch. ***1/2

Never mind. I spelled it wrong. It was supposed to be 'splosions like how a redneck might say "explosions". But i kinda like the way you went with it. ::wink::

I don’t need explosions in movies. I’m old and find it annoyingly noisy.
What I DO need is a movie to show me what’s happening and not just telling me about it. That pisses me off.

It - part two 2019
First third of the movie was the best, with great monsters. The next hour the story moved on slowly, without the movie getting dull tho. The came the long endning that was... well, better than the first adaptation.
Still I need either a long ass movie or a tv show that takes it time to flesh out the true essens of the books. A small city infected by an unknown evil.

Of the horror films that have come out recently, I was most intrigued by this one.
Saw Get Out a second time tonight. Holds up well. I see a couple of possible allegories to the main story. Any takes on Get Out?

Could had been good, but the CGI was on turbo mode. Also I did not like the new Pennywise, it made Tim Curry look even better.
I liked a lot the other cast, they really got them spot on.

SERIAL MOM (1994). Kathleen Turner is wonderful here as the loving supportive mother/wife/woman until someone pisses her off or commit a social faux pas and this is my favorite John Waters film. Funny as hell, with a few gross out factors.
Was living below Baltimore when this came out and lots of familiar sights, such as the old fashioned Giant Food (Grocery chain where I worked) Shredded Wheat Box, seeing 99.1 on the radio screen (also known as WHFS, a truly alternative rock station that didn't adhere to Broadcasting mores and You could hear the oddest stuff (A polka version of "Mary had a Little Lamb") or really deep cuts ("Live with Me" by The Rolling Stones) and filming in HAMMERJACKS, which was THE nightclub for rock fans. Saw Blue Oyster Cult and Ace Frehley/Peter Criss there myself.
Only thing I found sort of creepy is how Beverly (SERIAL MOM herself) becomes a celebrity with a fan club and media attention. TRhis came out a couple of months before the OJ Simpson case and it seems now if You commit a crime, You become a Media star. ****

I enjoyed the movie. I didn't find the lead very compelling, but for a movie about being trapped in with alligators, it was well done and enjoyable, with only relatively minor frustrations sprinkled throughout. If you can suspend your disbelief and turn your brain off, it's enjoyable enough.

Dumb twists, awkward dialogue, questionable performances and ultimately forgettable. Oh, and the cool cover image has nothing to do with the movie whatsoever. Some of the covers say 'Unrated' and 'Raw and Extreme'. Yet this movie has little to no gore in it whatsoever. Just people talking nonsense in a basement for 90mins while trying to hamfist in a plot of some sort.

LINDA RONSTADT:THE SOUND OF MY VOICE (2019). Very good doc on the iconic singer who, pretty much, traveled to the beat of a Different drum, doing what she felt was correct, despite naysayers. Tons of archival footage, interviews and a real nostalgic trip, thankfully not dwelling on any excesses she may have had. Only quibble I have is no sit down interview with her, instead voiceovers are used and many over musical performances, which can be distracting. ****

The Conjuring 2.
Well...I loved the first one, thought Annabelle was shit...kind of looked forward to this as I figured, sure, part of the core series...they'll make some effort here.
It was ok.
I liked it better than Annabelle.
I just found, aside from a few jumps etc, atmospherically it wasn't really that scary at all, which was disappointing. It was just a ghost story, really.
I don't know how many people felt the same way or not.
With Annabelle being shithouse in my mind, but the "Creation" one being quite well liked it seems, and "The Curse of La Llorona" seemingly not very well received, and "The Nun" getting mixed reviews...I'm not sure what to think about the series.
It's beginning to feel a bit like the Final Destination series to me...strong first, decent second...the rest of it, I don't care about.

I agree. I really liked The Conjuring original, and I thought 2 was OK. I digged the events and story going on in England... I just didn't get, nor like, how they were trying to shoe-horn the Nun story into it. Seemed disjointed. It's not like Conjuring is the Avengers series. Should have just made them stand alone. We like the main characters, that's enough.

Anyone watch "El Camino" yet?
For (if this is possible) anyone that doesn't know this, it's a netflix movie follow up to the "Breaking Bad" series and focusses on Jessie Pinkman after the events of the show.
Seems like just about everyone loves it.
I started watching it. Pretty good so far - with the returning actors/characters falling nicely back into their chemistry.
Sadly, we started watching very late so only got about a half way through...but what I've seen so far I've liked. Obviously coming out of the kind of tragic events of the end of BB, so there's not really much of the comedy aspect going on, and the character is practically crawling back from ruin.
Don't know what it's leading up to...don't know how it'll end or if we'll ever see more from the BB universe ever again - but thus far, it's worthy.
It's nice to visit again.

Maggie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1881002/?ref_=rvi_tt) - A zombie film with very little zombies in it. Not to mention the slowest turning zombies ever.
The concept sounds interesting. Reserve 90 minutes for what has only 1 minute in a regular zombie flick.
It was nice to see Schwarzenegger about as far away from the Terminator as possible and his portrayal of a man dealing with the loss of a child and the feeling of powerlessness that comes in it was pretty good.
They avoid the trap of turning this into a cheap tearjerker and the moment with the kiss on the forehead was pretty tense. That said:
Does that mean the film lives up to it's full potential?
Could they make more out of it with a different cast or script?
Does the element of zombies keep it from getting more recognition? Or is it the presence of Schwarzenegger?
Not sure.

I only read the wiki as I thought Breaking Bad was a perfect show, one of the best TV shows ever and didn't need a movie sequel. I'm kind of curious about that lawyer show. But still I was relucant to watch Breaking Bad originally and was hooked. There aren't any bad episodes. But you just know watching that show that the end will be bad in the end. I think the saying is drug dealers always end of dead somewhere.

HIRED GUN (2016). Really interesting doc on musicians who are hired to appear on albums and tours, usually without much recognition or job security. Could almost be a companion piece to THE WRECKING CREW, 20 FEET FROM STARDOM and STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN (all which I heartily recommend). Pink and Alice Cooper get the highest marks as far as working conditions, but Billy Joel fans should give this a pass as he comes off as a major tool. ****

Terminator: Dark Fate
I wasn't expecting much...the default setting of any Terminator veteran post T2.
Honestly? It's ok.
I liked it more than Genesys.
I definitely liked it more than T3.
I would say...it's kind of roughly balanced with how much I liked Salvation.
Definitely made as an intended relaunch.
It's interesting.
The new Terminator has got some balls.
Unusual storyline, hadn't really thought about what would happen if "etc etc' had occurred. Decent action scenes. Ok characters. Couple of nice twists.
Nothing is ever going to touch Terminator 2.
This one at least got a little closer than most.

Ha, no you didn't.
You can't do a review based on your experience with the franchise thus far, and a trailer? All that's gonna do is convince people not to watch it...which sadly, they're already not...apparently it's getting slayed, which is more likely the result of people already going on past films to make their decision.
It's not up there with T1&2...but it's at least a little bit of a return to form.

Yeah they are trying to sell the movie as finally being a worthy sequel and better than everything after T2. But that really shouldn't be seen as a big accomplishment when everything after T2 is bascially crap compared to T1 & T2.
And I read both story breakdowns on wiki and wikia. It wasn't just going by the trailer.

Yeah they are trying to sell the movie as finally being a worthy sequel and better than everything after T2.
They have put that out there, yes. Though having seen the film I can confirm it.
You're right. Nothing has come close to T2. This, well, still pretty far away. But, closer.
And I read both story breakdowns on wiki and wikia. It wasn't just going by the trailer.
I get it, just...for me, if you're gonna review at all you gotta be there, man. Put one point of contact between you and the finished product, and you'll be ever so slightly biased one way or another for having been exposed.
Even if say it was a source or author, journalist or whatever the many online equivalents would be, even if it was a source you admire, trust, and you find to be in line with your existing tastes etc...there's always the off chance that their take, might influence your own.
You gotta get boots on the ground with this.
I mean I know you're not gonna like it as much as T2. I knew I wouldn't either...so trust me, you're going in correct about that...but it was, (I say this as a guy born in 1981 who holds the original dearly as well as the first sequel...I believe I was at the perfect age to be in fucking awe of these movies - and I too, have been consistently disappointed and let down by the franchise since...it's ridiculous...and it pisses me off that the whole franchise is stained by the ratio of bad/good Terminator films) not bad.
Take my advice - go see it.
It's not gonna be better than on the big screen...so even if it's a shitshow by your standards, you get the best possible shitshow, and less exposure to online complainants that'll hate it on the merit of the other latter sequels/reboot attempt further effect your own judgement.
I believe if this had been Terminator 3, I wouldn't have lost faith in the franchise like I did when I saw what they *actually* gave us.
When you write a review, man. I'll read it.

Good to see a bit of quality find its way back into DC films outside their animated efforts. Well played. Sombre, moody, sad.

Grease - there's some entertaining scenes, but mostly not, good music.
Beasts of No Nation - interesting and informative, but not that enjoyable
Dolemite Is My Name - more informative than funny
Mudbound - slow, a bit drearily realistic, but a nice slice of life in that time period
Between Two Ferns: The Movie - saw part of this. I like the actual interviews, but pretty much nothing else.
The Unknown Known - doc on Donald rumsfeld. I love DR, but this didn't dig deep enough. It's not near as entertaining or deep as Fog of War. DR needs to be interviewed again.
Jimi Hendrix - you get closer to having an idea who he was personally, but that's not very close at all. I wonder if this is as close as it gets? Some very good concert footage though.
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil - enjoyable characters, but not that funny really.
The Cloverfield Paradox - fairly entertaining sci-fi, but just OK.

That one pays tribute to the great horror classics from the 1970s and 1980s. It does an overall good job with that as well. There are plenty of very intense scenes, along with plenty of humorous dialogue. Tony Todd also makes a good appearance in there as well. BEWARE OF MR BAKER (2012). Impressive debut from Director Jay Bulgar is a documentary of Cream/Blind Faith /other bands drummer Peter "Ginger" Baker widely considered one of the best in his field. Indeed he was with much footage from the previously listed groups as well as when he lived in Nigeria and "Drum Battles" with other players. He also was a devotee of Polo and touching scenes of he and his horses/dogs/stepchildren.
He also was a notoriously prickly individual with seemingly little regard for anyone else and very little impulse control-You'll almost shake your head in amazement at some of the things He did and also be glad You didn't have to be around him , for despite his talent and amazing life, He was an abrasive, cantankerous asshole.
While I certainly found this well made, it made Me think back when I started finding out that musicians I looked up to when younger, turned out to be people I would want to avoid at all costs. ***

MIDSOMMAR - I rented this because I saw Florence Pugh in Fighting With My Family and fell in love. Did NOT fall in love with this film. The opening was really cool. She showed her chops in what could have been an extremely awful boring introduction. Then it switched to Sweden and it went down hill from there.
The only good part was the sex scene. I've never involuntarily laughed so hard in years.
If you haven't seen this. FF to the sex scene, everything before and after SUCKS.
Plot Spoilers below for Greta.
GRETA - I got a two for one special from Redbox. This was actually a better horror flick then Midsommar. But, it still came up short. The one thing that truly annoys me is sane folks not doing the most obvious thing during a crisis.
Moretz's character has Greta stalking her. She does everything she should, and to no avail. Finally Greta goes nuts in the restaurant Moretz waitresses at, and is arrested. Fine. All this is perfectly acceptable in the real world. THEN Moretz goes missing. In a normal world, go to the cops. They didn't in the movie. They went to a private Detective.
It turns out, going to the police was cut from the movie, and is in the deleted scenes special feature. It was a moronic scene. Instead of saying "my daughter has a stalker who was arrested, and she sent us each photos making us think she was away". It was a scene about Moretz's sanity. Completely unrealistic and deserved to be cut. But, a reasonable scene should have been there.
Both were a waste of time.

What did you think? I was insanely impressed.
I was stunned by the part that everyone else was (dont want to give it away) , found it creepy as opposed to scary though.

FF to the sex scene, everything before and after SUCKS.
.
You should watch more porn and less horror.

The Disaster Artist (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3521126/?ref_=rvi_tt) was a fun watch. Franco really gets into Wiseau. Seth Rogen as Sandy counters Tommy's weirdness quite well. It's also fun to notice how Franco manages to make you feel a bit sorry for Tommy during the premiere, in spite of his obvious... oddness.
On a side note: cameo for the Google-guy. That was funny.

I finally got to see this prequel. Despite one big flaw at the beginning where they have World War I still happening in December of 1918, while the real war actually ended in November 1918, it's overall not bad for an independent prequel on a low budget. The drama, dialogue, costumes, scenery, and visuals are overall well done with what they had. There is also plenty of decent laughable humor in there as well. There is a lot of backstory, and Krampus does not appear until the final 20 minutes, but this is an origins film, where that can be expected at times. Krampus himself is overall creepy and cool looking with his fx looking cool for lower budget. It is not as upscale as the 2015 movie or "A Christmas Horror Story" with William Shatner, but as mentioned above, it is an independent prequel on a lower budget, so you can't set your expectations quite that high. I can recommend this to those who can appreciate a lower budget independent film that is well done for what they had, but not to those hoping to see anything big budget. ::devil::

Knives out.
This movie...quite wordy...but very fun.
Feels like a 70's murder mystery. Sounds like one - the musical score was fucking excellent, really evoked what it wanted to.
Some likeable characters. Some detestable ones.
It kind of acts slightly counter to a lot of mystery movies, and because of this it totally works and doesn't feel samey or old-timey.
I usually hate Michael Shannon but kind of liked him in this.
Pretty much everyone did a good job with their characters.
Except maybe a kid who's character was a bit superfluous, Don Johnson just...playing himself yet again...that and I'm never going to REALLY love a performance by Toni Collete after seeing what she could do in USTara...but yeah, look it was all well played. No complaints.
I'd give this one an 8/10.
It's a fun film with great dialogue and music, and the majority of the cast plays quite well off each other.

THE RELIC (1997). This could be sub-titled "ALIEN in The Museum". While this isn't great, it's certainly not as bad as many of the reviews I've read on it. If nothing else, Stan Winston's effects work is badass. I think because my copy was so dark, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.
Have been to the Chicago Field Museum a couple of times when I lived above the city (1976-79) and thought it really good, especially the T-Rex skeleton that greets You as You walk in and we only get glimpses of it in the film. **1/2

never seen it. interesting to note: the creature was both a practical effect (physical) and for the running and jumping they used a CG creature.

It: Chapter 2! That one is long, but amazing! Both of the new movies cover the book real well, and it has plenty of intense, gory, and scary scenes! The characters are also very well developed, and portrayed perfectly! Those who like the first of the new movies should love this one! ::danger::

Blood Fest (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7208564/?ref_=rvi_tt) - Nothing memorable, but a fun flick in the vein of Cabin in the woods. 6/10
Saw 2 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0432348/?ref_=rvi_tt) The first part was enjoyable, but it's still beyond me how this series is so successfull. Fun for the gorehound in me, though.
