It's the illusion of getting a lot for a little bit of money. And the shipping usually costs more than the movies.
Plus it's fun to get little packages in the mail.

It was a complete blind-buy, Id never even heared of it. The summary on the box intrigued me + it was really cheap, so I figured it would be worth a purchase. Im kind of excited to watch it now:)

VERY happy with tonights purchases:

- Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail (2 disc SE)
- Secret Window (Ive been wanting this one)
- Dawn of the Dead (Divimax edition, Anchor Bay. Im too cheap to get the Ultimate Edition, so I decided to settle with this. At least I FINALLY have it:D)

Yep, Im a happy camper with all of todays purchases:D

Oh, I also ordered a new DVD tower. For those whove seen my pics in the "Post Your Rack" thread, it's another of the same model. Pricey, but worth it.

the feedback system has gone to hell.

too many sellers are reserving their feedback until they get theirs from the buyer which is fucking bullshit.

as soon as the buyer pays - bam - give the feedback bitch !

now people are afraid to give honest feedback because they'll get 'pay back feedback' from these dishonest c*$%suckers.

most sellers are ok .. but there are a growing number of pieces of shit who arent smart enough to figure out thast if they do an honest quality job they stand to make far more $$$ from return customers bidding against each other than the 5$ they make ripping people off one at a time.

the sad thing is they consider themselves to be very shrewd and clever when they are in actuality so fucking stupid i'm suprised their motor functions dont up and quit on them.

another shining example that if there is money to me made, there is also a prime spot for monet to be stolen.

i bought Malevolence some time ago - and forgot i had it ..
I'll have to check it out.

the cover is promising .. it's subdued - not like the low budget shitty films that try to sell the film with a slick cover. (usually with the hint of tits in one of the pictures on the back)

haha this version has the hint of titties in the pictures and even comes with some dodgey internet reviews! The company that brings it out over here is hit or miss but I've struck some off beat gems thru them so hopefully its a winner or I want my $2 back :)

Hopefully a decent looking villian with some cool characteristics.
Thats the thing that makes Slashers for me..... the little things: cool mask/weapon/something dark n' weird (the bleeding nose in Valentine was great and the mask struck me as cool - a child's face representing a nu-wave of slasher.... they grow from here instead of being a parody)
But titties are always welcomed :)

i'd just like to see one slasher make any kind of sense ..

- cars that start when they should ..
- shuffling shashers who are actually slower than terrified running teenagers.
- the virgins get killed - the sluts life to screw another day..
- if a slasher villian gets killed or hurt, he stayes dead, or wounded...
- killings that go wrong .. where the elaborate timing that absolutely must be happening - doesnt.
- a film where no cats launch themselves out of closed closets for shock value.

(jesus christ - even if a cat did accidentally get locked into a closet - it doesnt jump madly from the top shelf at your face ..
ever see these things jump down from anything ? they cant see things that arent moving - they have a hard time judging distances to the floor .. even a 1 foot jump is handled with extreme caution)

i hate stupid shit like that ..

and i hate when they show a promise of boobs on the cover - but there isnt a single boob to be found in the film ... just the boob who rented the damn thing ...

however, with the exception of Rose McGowan's green shirt, they really skimped on the boob thing.

As I mentioned in a couple other threads, I just got back from a vacation. For my mother, it was a trip down memory lane as we went to a place she went to as a kid. For my dad, it was an excerise in boredom as there was next to nothing for him to do.

Why am I posting this here you ask?

Because, my good friends, for me it was a shopping trip! I didnt even pay attention to how much I was spending...I figured Im only in the states once or twice a year, I might as well take advantage of it.

I love shopping in the states...not only is there a better selection in most of the stores, everything is so much cheaper! Even when you factor in exchange rates, movies are still really cheap compared to here. I love it!

Anyway, heres the damage in no particular order:

- Robert Rodriguez: Mexico Trilogy (El Mariachi/Desperado/Once Upon a Time In Mexico)

- One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

- Dead Birds

- Equilibirum

- Halloween II

- Creep

- Boo

- Dead/Alive (I was so damn excited to run across this, impossible to find up here :D)

- Get Shorty (2-Disc SE)

- Undead

- Silent Trigger

- Man-Thing

- Cemetery Man (Up yours Anchor Bay! I should have been able to get this at home but nooooo you had to screw up the rights)

- Night of the Living Dead '68 (Ok, so it's my 3rd copy of this one. It's just a cheap public domain copy, but I wanted to have it on it's own DVD. My other copies are both part of different sets).

- Carnival of Souls (Same as above, but it's only my second copy of this)

I think that's it for the movies....I almost grabbed "A Different Loyalty" just to say I own one of the worst movies ever....but then I decided that even a buck fifty would be too much for that piece of shit.

Last but not least, I got the Watchmen graphic novel. Been hearing great things about it lately, so I figured that I aught to pick it up. Ive already read the first chapter and part of the second....damn cool already!

Ok....Im pretty sure that's it. Im pretty damn happy with my shopping:D

Alice Cooper - Live at Montreux 2005

hmmm....I thought that was a jazz festival.

While on vacation, I went into a little cafe for lunch, wearing the T-Shirt I got when I saw Alice in concert not long ago. One of the lady's working (older lady, Id say late 50s/early 60's) came up and asked where I got the shirt....turns out she knew "Vince" when they were kids. I thought that was pretty cool.

Now i'm sorting out toys - almost done

Sure.

Its not alot different, but the simplicity really helps IMO. The American cover looks too cluttered and cheap.

Search and destroy...I have no idea what it is, but it was in the bargain bin for $5AUD, and it's got Christopher Walken, should be worth at least that.

Garfield and friends volume 1 - 24 episodes. Also pretty damn cheap, video ezy sale.

Deliverance (same sale) for $10AUD. I've never seen it, but I understand it's one of those movies where people say "what, you havent seen it yet?!?", so I thought I'd get it out of the way.

how much ?

crabapple
08-31-2006, 08:46 PM
Ten dollars plus postage. A mid-grade copy, about a "Very Good" or thereabouts. (Back-issues of this magazine are really pricey!)

Phalanx
08-31-2006, 09:09 PM
Who cares about grading if you're gonna read it anyways, you'd be surprised at how careful you can be reading a comic, and to have it slide down the grading scale...
The biggest joke is the company that actually grades and seals them now, they charge a fair bit, and your comics can be damaged in the post on the way in..., then they come back (sure sealed nice n pretty) and unless you're lucky, or just buying EVERYTHING, especially these days, you'll find there was little point in doing all this. (Although I do envy anyone who got this done with the "wolverine: origin" series, anyone aware of current pricing will know why)

I say the best way to keep an actual comic and enjoy it, is to either buy double copies, or read once and then seal yourself. You can vac-seal em, or simply put them in your plastic sleeves, either with backing, or on a solid surface (pile them tail to top), should be fine...of course after all this effort, collecting comics simply is seldom worth it anymore.
Prices going up, values going down.
This is why I download.
Superior selection, won't fall apart, no ridiculous price attatched.

I've collected comics, haven't been on the pirate side the whole time...but I've been there and done that, and something I read changed my mind, can't remember exactly how it went, but the message was, the only way to REALLY enjoy a comic as it should be enjoyed = get it, read it, then fold the sucker in half and shove it in your back pocket, condition be damned...this way you can re-read/relive the comic again and again, simply put, this is how comics used to be, and how they should be. Lying in treasure piles to dive through anytime you like.

crabapple
08-31-2006, 09:27 PM
Yeah, I like 'em kinda worn, myself...a reader copy is fine most of the time. Sometimes I like a finer grade if I want to admire the cover art. This one in particular has a nice painting. But I do like to pull these things out and read them, use them. Seems kooky to buy them and keep them sealed in plastic the whole time.

Phalanx
08-31-2006, 09:49 PM
Agreed...in this day and age there's just no way of knowing the potential future value. Like EVERYONE started collecting comics like that around 10 years ago...kinda threw the whole collector value for a loop...so yeah unless you're really lucky or as I said buying every single thing out there, chances are you'd be wasting your time.
I've got my "box" of sealed comics, but that's as far as it goes, there's about 200, out of which only 30 have risen in value since purchase, and only about 10 of them greatly so...all the same, I've got downloaded duplicates of them all anyhow...
Agreed on the cover art, sometimes I think it would be cool if there was a company that had access to all the marvel/dc/image/WS/...all those covers, to put into poster form, now that would be cool.

crabapple
08-31-2006, 09:59 PM
My "collection" (if you can call it that) is even more miniscule...maybe forty or fifty assorted issues of this or that. Some comic books, some magazines. When I read one through and find it bores me, I try to trade it for something else, or sell it to get money to buy something else.

But I really do love these things, though. I even love trading them away, because I know they're going out there "into the world" to make someone else a little bit happier. There is a weird kinship between book collectors, have you noticed that? They share the same geekdom or something. And if there's one thing that makes me happy, even more than hips, lips, and finger-tips, it's being a GEEK for dumb stuff like comic books. There is something really satisfying about it.

many of you probly know this, but deepdiscountdvd.com has a sale going where it's "buy one box set, get one free."

I got the Dawn of the Dead Ultimate Edition (I previously only had it on vhs) for $30, then got the Anchor Bay "Walking Dead" fright pack for free! this set includes six movies, all of which are medium to high quality. they are Nightmare City, House by the Cemetary, Hell of the Living Dead, Dead Heat, City of the Living Dead, and Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (which I haven't ever seen).

they have the other "fright pack" sets too, all buy one get one free. I, personally, would only recommend the "Campy Classics" one, which I already had.

on the other hand the tombs set sold out immediately so i probably wouldnt have gotten one anyway.

Im pretty pumped for Glen or Glenda, havent seen that one yet. The set has:

- Glen or Glenda
- Jailbait (Which I also havent seen)
- Plan 9 from Outer Space
- Bride of the Monster
- Night of the Ghouls

Plus a documentary entitled "The Haunted World of Edward D. Wood Jr.", which is mostly just people cussing him out. Bela Lugosi's son is a total assclown.

It has a couple bonus short films as well, if memory serves. A western perhaps? I rented one disc of it awhile back (The documentary, but I cant quite place what the bonus film was...

Oh well, Im excited about the set. Should be here in about 2 weeks if I can trust the Ebay page.
