i order exclusively from a guy here in canada .. we actually became good friends ..
best laserdisc seller on ebay .. very sucessfull because he's honest and does a great job.

never ceases to amaze me - these fucking crooked assholes
that somehow think they are making more money ripping you off for $5.

The honest guys with great reps get repeat business .. people who trust the guys are bidding against each other because they would rather pay more from a guy they trust.

my buddy got almost 20$ US for the laserdisc of Journey to the Centre of the earth on the weekend .. you can buy the DVD new for about $10.

That's a successful seller. The money is in the repeat business.

I still love laserdiscs when I can get 'em...the images are far less compressed and many times the lasers are far superior to subsequent DVD releases.

Plus, it's the only way to get the original "Star Wars" movies before they got all screwed up-like.

urgeok
02-21-2005, 08:20 AM
yeah i have a couple diff versions of star wars on laser.
not sure why though - i'm so godamn sick of it anyway.

i figure i'll never see them again until my kids shows interest.

the best thing about lasers is the availability of rare titles at a great price. There's still tons of stuff on laser not available on DVD.

LOL! No. That's my nickname for him as, like the latter day Bronson, he decided to grow facial hair in such a way that makes him look like a cuddly teddy bear. and not actually very threatening at all.

Just got the new version of "Donnie Darko."

I was one of the 12 people here in KC who actually went to see it at the theater when it was re-released last fall. It ran for about 3 days out here in the midwest.
Anyhows, the new dvd comes with a great "bunny head" pendant for a necklace. Pretty cool.
Now, what to do with my old copy of "Donnie?"

Opera is a fucking amazing movie I watched for the first time in ages this morning. I've been trying to track down the band Steel Grave that plays on it but haven't been able to finda anything on them that isn't related to the movie. They have a pretty cool sound somewhere between Iron Maiden crossed with Motorhead. There's some really dark brutal murders in this one. It was pretty much the only Argento released over here completley uncut (under the title Terror at the Opera).

I can't stand this movie. Guy Peace sucked in it Crowe sucked in it (two of the lamest American accents I've ever heard in a movie). The story was totally lame. Very poor cash in on Hollywood's Film Noir past.

Right, and the Shield ROCKS!!! Season 3 was probably my favorite season. Season 1 was awesome but 2 was not all there. Let's see if they can deliver the goods with the new season and with adding Glen Close. He's a great actor!:)

This is one movie I dont understand why it gets such a terrible rep. Sure, the ending was really shitty. But fr the most part, I thought it was atleast enjoyable, in some parts really good. But, I saw it 2-3 years ago, before I was a major horror fan...I might think differently now, I guess...

"Playgirl Killer" DVD. Woooooo-hoooo! Score!!!! One of the worst of the late 60's killer flicks. This movie SUCKS A LOT. It was five dollars, and I hadn't seen it since I was a kid--only saw it the once, on TV. But I never forgot it.

I definitely have a thing about horror movies featuring Neil Sedaka, either acting or singing or, as in this case, both. It really makes a piece of crap special. Sorry, Neil, but you know I mean it in a good way. In the BEST way. Hey, I bought the damn thing, didn't I?

The world has been split up into DVD 'regions'. Different regioned DVDs will only play in a DVD player that corresponds with the region code of a particular DVD. Unless you have a region free DVD player or run region free software on your Pc, then you'll be able to play any region DVD film

Yeah, but that would be Theatrical running time. You lose roughly 4 minutes for every hundred so 88 minutes would be about right.

The 'Optimum' release is actually one of the best, especially with the extras.

Seams strange, I've checked a couple of other longer R2 films, and the total playtime was pretty much the same as the cover info run time. There may be some discrepancy with what was printed in the info on different versions. I'm glad I've order the R3 one now, I'm interested to see what it's runtime will be in my player.

I bought the single-disc version of "Dawn of the Dead" (after buying various VHS and laser versions over the years!) and was very pleased by both the image and the 5.1 remix. Sounds fantastic (except for a couple of moments when the ricochets and so on are going "ping! ping! pchew!" all over the place as if to say, "LOOK AT ME, I'M IN STEREO! STEREO, DONCHA GET IT? NO HANDS!").

No, I'm not griping, overall it was quite nice, I just wanted to give the remix people a little grief for no reason. Actually, for years I'd wanted to hear DOTD in stereo, so it was literally a dream come true.

Mel-O-Toons DVD from the 99 Cents Store. I had never seen Mel-O-Toons before, but they looked to be some kind of cheesy educational cartoons from the 50's and 60's. Turned out these were pretty neat, in a boring kind of way. Reminded me of those godawful old scratchy films they would show at school on rainy days. The DVD was made from really messed-up, scratchy prints, so that helped a little. (Scratches and dust used to be annoying; now they're nostalgia!)

Kimba DVD from the 99 Cents Store.

It's lame because the audio has been redubbed so it's not what I heard back in the 70's. However, you can choose English or Spanish language options, which is cool because I never heard Kimba en espanol.

Not really, just a few words. But I can pick up a little here and there when I'm watching movies. Spy Kids (Mini Espias) is good in Spanish.

Dude, it's cool. You should try it. You might learn something. About yourself. (????)

I have an imported Japanese "King Kong vs. Godzilla" disc that has no English at all, and I know basically no Japanese, but I can watch it. I'm kooky like that.

They even...but...there's people talking outside, they're yammering about something. Hold on.

(comes back two minutes later without explaining what happened)

Anyway. This Godzilla disc kicks ass, because it's really quiet for all the talking scenes, very flat, and then when the monsters show up the sound goes up REALLY LOUD. When Godzilla roars, it's like GREEEEEEE-ONK!!!! really deafening... And once, a friend came by when I had this on, and he said you could hear it all the way out in the street. I mean, I had it up loud, but I didn't think it was THAT loud.

i'd like to get the book by Bruce Campbell ... that and the Dario Argento bio.

Right now i'm reading Hard Core Roadshow - a book written in diary form about the making of HArd Core Logo - canadas answer to Spinal Tap .. only this is about a punk band.

if you like movies about Rock and Roll .. or you're interested in screenwriting - i would check this book out.

The guy who runs the dvd store I always go to. I've been going there for 15 years and everytime I go we have conversation about movies, books ect. So I mentioned it to him and he said he had a copy and he'd let me have it for 15 bucks. Same guy I got Finding Neverland from, today is it's release date but he gave it to me Sunday night when he got his shipment.

before you read it .. you might want to find the movie : Hard Core Logo.

its a great film and it should be viewed before the book is read .. as to not take away from the film : this is important.

as far as the book goes .. i think you're gonna thank me ..

haven't checked ebay cause I really don't order anything online anymore unless it's for work or I really want something and this kinda falls under both so that'll be a last resort if I can't find it anywhere else.

I thought the book was going to be hell to find when I found out it was out of print and it was until I ran into a little luck. I went to three book stores(one of which usually has anything I'm looking for) looking for it and got nothing, one store didn't even know what I was talking about. (but that was a teenager)

hard to blame people for not knowing way down where you are ..
its a book about writing the screenplay for an obscure canadian film ..

the DVD special Ed is of all things - on Quentin Tarantinos' Rolling Thunder label, and includes the soundtrack.

I just got him(same guy I got the book from) on the phone and he said he said he doesn't have it and doesn't know where to find it, that usually means one of two things...
