What footage was removed? A lot of the editions on VHS that sneak round here are all suprisingly uncut.

I think I prefer the old VHS versions of a lot of these films. Its the way a lot of them were intended. Some DVD versions are just too clean and take away from the aesthetics of the effects used the film.

In the case of "Dawn of the Dead," I like the new remastered versions, but I also like the grainy, murky old VHS tapes with the bad sound...it's what I remember from the 80's, and sometimes I get, you know, kinda nostalgic.

I haven't checked that out yet. Unfortunatley over here DVD is the only way to find these sort of films. I'm slowly finding a lot of gems on VHS here and there for practically nothing. A bunch of it is shit I don't see them releasing on DVD anytime soon.

There definatley is a nostelgic side to it! Some DVD versions (especially of a lot of 80s stuff) are just terrible. Those Dawn of The Dead remasters do look fucking amazing gonna have to track that set down with the three versions of the film (real keen to see the Argento cut).

Online purchases tend to be a bit of a crapshoot...most sellers on Ebay or Half.com are great, but some aren't...
That said, though, I have found a lot of great VHS stuff on Half.com...I recommend doing a search there. Sometimes a seller will flat-out not know the value of their old tapes (might have rare stuff unreleased in the DVD age, etc.) and might be offering that special gem for 75 cents plus postage. Just CHECK THEIR FEEDBACK, because I've run into some kooks!

It is a very unique film. Not what many would define as a "good" film, for it is slow and murky with very little discernible "point"... plus the box art, while beautiful, in no way depicted what the film actually was...
But if you like weird, then it might be just the thing for you. It was weird as hell! I was scratching my head long after watching it. I might even buy it. It was weird enough to watch more than once, IMO.

Haha thanks. He saw it at a drive-in when it first came out. This was the first horror movie I ever heard of...he used to tell me stories about how gross it was. I just received the poster in the mail a few days ago and it's in better condition than any original old movie poster i've ever seen. The thing feels like it's never been unrolled...seller says it's been rolled in plastic for the last 30 years and by the feel of it, I believe him. The material is a dead give-away that it's no spring chicken, but you won't be able to feel that once its in a frame.

I didnt think Creepshow 2 was very good. It really shows that Romero wasnt directing, the style is totally different and not nearly as cool. OK movie I guess, but doesnt even hold a candle to #1. Worth seeing once, but if I'd had a choice, I definatly wouldnt have bought it. My recomendation is save your $13 [thats what it cost me, and I got it in the states so US$], and just rent/download it.
The stories were OK. Ol' Chief Woodenhead was stupid until it was almost over [It did get REALLY cool at the end though], The Raft was BY FAR the best of the lot, but still not comparable to even the worst of #1, and The Hitchhiker was boring and didnt make much sence. And as I mentioned before, it all but abandons the style that George set in the original.
I guess it's worth seeing for yourself though....

American psycho is one of my all time favorites, but the special "unrated" edition isn't very special. The "cut" scenes have to be viewed seperately, as deleted scenes, and can't be viewed as part of the movie. How rediculous is that? What's the point of having an "unrated" DVD, why not just a rated one with deleted scene? And the answer is: this one sells better.

I'm glad to hear that somebody else on this site has been going crazy in teh VHS section. A lot of people nowadays keep telling me that I shouldn't get VHS's anymore because they suck and don't have any special features, and that I should switch to DVD. Well, I've had a DVD player for about three years now and am hopefully getting a portable one this X-Mas. But, I still have a love for the VHS because they're so cheap and in about 20 years, they'll be collectibles (though I'll only sell the crappy ones). All I want is the movie itself anyway. So, it doesn't really matter as to which one I get in my opinion.

Yeh for sure man. The best version of a lot of horror films is on VHS. Special features are kinda unessesary a lot of the time.

But the quality is so fuckin' sloppy. Not saying I don't have my fair share of bargain horror VHSs (including an awesome vintage copy of TCM), but I'd much prefer DVD.
Anyway, me and GOODandEVIL666 just each bought a Classic Horror Collection DVD for $5 brand new.
Mine has:

DVDs are to slick at times and ruin the aesthetics of a lot of the effects. Some cases the DVDs are better of course but its not always the case.
