Its a bit of both (well so far I'm only half way thru it). Its about a guy who becomes their roadie and has live preformances from the band. Basically The Clash pretending to be the Clash for a film type deal (if that made any sense  )

so my wife comes home last night after getting groceries - and tells me the grocery store is having some big sale on movies ...
she herself picked up 2 spiderman tv episodes and tells me that the LAnd before time 9 DVD set is 29$

i hate these movies but my kid loves them .. i've seen this set for over $100 ,,

so i went and got it - as well as the other 3 spidermen, and a french trilogy (lovers, too much flesh, being light) all on DVD .. as well as a couple of maggie and the ferocious beast (great kids show) on VHS and one horror called Bloody Murder 2 - a corny looking slasher for 99 cents.

so it turns out i got charged fll price for the land before time box set and the maggie vids (which were $3 but they charged 99 cents each for everything else !!

the whole pile cost 50$

i'm glad i didnt notice the mistake when i was there because i probably would have pointed it out..
(i'm honest enough to do that - but not enough to go back later and tell them )

Oh baby you guys haven't seen Suspiria? Do yourself a favor quickly and buy it, its definately worth it. I was originally going to pick up the 3-Disc version of the film but I was like two dollars short  Whatever though the single disc edition is good the transfer and sound definately do it justice. But yeah definately a good blind buy you guys the film is fantastic from Dario Argento (Demons) and the beginning of the movie is absolutely spell-binding. The scenery is wonderful and so many colors are used that even in one of the most violent death scenes in horror is unfolding infront of you you can't help but notice how beautiful the atmosphere is. It's first and foremost a horror film though and it excels at that, not to mention the awesome score from Goblin, man is it great.

Definately pick it up.

yeah but the anchor bay folks put it in the Dario Argento collection 'Dario Argento presents' :

they did the same thing with Soavi's The Church ..

i guess thats what confuses people.

unless you're familiar enough with Argento to realize that is not his style of filmmaking ...

Yes I know that Bava directed Demons, but Argento wrote almost all of it so I consider it a Dario Argento film first and foremost.

i have one thats a monster ... i cant use it - but i'm betting you wont be able to either ...

it has a metal frame that you screw to the wall .. it has snaps on it and the screen snaps to the frame ... so you need a dedicated wall .. and that has to be about 6' X 10'
they got rid of it at work .. the thing's worth a fortune - really great material ... but i'll never be able to use it ..

i have an 8' pull-down .. got it for free when the place i work upgraded to an automatic model ..

by the way .. the great race - disk 2 - was in the machine when the laserdisc player i just spent $400 on died.

i'll extract it and switch to a working player ..

i'm not happy.. :(

the screen was custom built for the place i worked - they had a few of them on a huge wall where work related info was projected.

one thing to consider ... although it may not matter to you ..

is that my screen pulls down in front of all of my audio-visual stuff .. so it blocks my remote ..

screw that ... imagine getting the bastard home (with the help of 4 - 5 friends) and the thing doesnt work, or lasts for 2 weeks ..

i wasnt kidding - i could sit on it like a snow mobile..

it was the same model they used to use in arenas to project stuff before they had those giant tv screens (or composite screens)

most recent (and yet to be watched):

Buried Alive - Edgar Allen Poe
Cutting Moments
Leprechaun in the hood
Popcorn

All came in twin DVD sets for £1.00 each, ie each film actually cost 50p.

Not sure about any of them, though. Get the impression they are all B movies, but od have well known stars

- Donald Pleasance, Robert Vaughn, Dee Wallace Stone.

Out of all, 4 Popcorn may be the best - psycho in a theatre, kills his family 15 years later starts again.

"Double Tap" - Excellent Hong Kong action thriller with a top notch turn by the late Leslie Cheung and some bloody and well crafted shoot outs.

"Rich and Famous" - Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau. Far more a drama than a Heroic Bloodshed film and rather dull in parts, works best if seen as the first part of it's VASTLY superior sequel. Talking of which......

"Tragic Hero" - superb sequel to "Rich and Famous" that ups the action and violence and features a classic Heroic Bloodshed finale that oozes Hong Kong coolness.

"The Sons of Katie Elder" - Top John Wayne flick with Dean Martin.

"The Shootist" - Wonderful and emotionally powerful ending to Wayne's career that's also a warm tribute.

"The Alamo" - Overblown and over long but it's still a lot better than many people say. Could have done with a longer action finale but all in all John Wayne does okay both in front and behind the camera with a good cast in support.

"True Grit" - More Wayne goodness with a top support cast, but not as great as it's reputation.

"El Dorado" - Classic semi-remake of "Rio Bravo" that ups the comedy.

"Rio Lobo" - Vastly underrated Wayne flick that's bags of fun.

"The Comancheros" - Some good humour but lacks action. Wayne is always watchable though.

"The Crazies" - Excellent presentation of an excellent george Romero film that deserves far more respect!

"Two Mules for Sister Sara" - Pretty damn good, if laid back, Eastwood Western with a good dose of comedy and a very violent finale.

"Death Hunt" - Wonderful (and violent) semi truthful re-telling of the Canadian 'Mad Trapper' that mixes fact, legend and fiction brilliantly. Bronson and Lee Marvin in top form!

"Under Siege" - Uncut version of this fun action fest. Shame Stevie Seagul is the star though!

Triple pack of "The Longest Day"/"Patton"/"Tora! Tora! Tora!"

"The Blue Max" - Long but fast moving WWI film with some great dogfights, a good cast and some epic visuals.

"Battle of Britain" - Amazing (if often very, very underused) cast and some excellent dog fight set-ups. Not bad at all.

"Resident Evil" - Pretty lacklustre and far too bloodless, but works well with it's superior sequel. Talking of which.........

"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" - far more action, far more zombie funstuffs (though still a lack of gore) and all in all worthy popcorn fun that actually feels far more like the game than part 1 did.

"Dead Birds" - Civil War haunted house/horror flick. Looks cool and different.

"Creep" - Brit horror set in the little used but alwats effective London Underground. Looking forward to checking it out.

"South Park", seasons 1 - 4

"The Hillside Strangler" (unrated) - It's meant to be nasty and exploitative. So it better had be!! LOL!

"Rocky 1 - 3"

CAT III goodness thanks to the sale at DDDHouse, all these for £7 inc postage from Hong Kong.......
"Run and kill" - Simon Yam classic.
"Naked Poison"
"Brother of Darkness"
"Daughter of Darkness" - Anthony 'Mr Sleazy' Wong.

Being a aviation buff I too have these. Excellent dogfights in both.
Ursula Andreas isn't to bad to look at either in the Blue Max. We have a aviation museum here in the Dallas area that has over 50 vintage WW1, WW2, Korean and Viet Nam aircraft and all of them still fly. Planes used in Blue Max, Battle of Britain and the Aviator were from this museum. Every Memorial Day they have a free air show and fly them. I go every year and just drool seeing these vintage birds fly again.

re maniac - dont know yet - it wont be in my hands til Friday night.

I have the Blues Brothers on DVD ... but had i seen it on laser first i would have grabbed it..

lasers are great and cheap - the only problem is finding and maintaining a player ..

living where you do - i wouldnt recommend it - the cost of shipping alone will kill you. (that goes for the discs too - they're heavy)

Yeh players are very hard to find, especialy over here (I've been on the lookout tho so something will turn up soon). There in New Zealand and the shipping is only $5. He's only charging $5 per disc so it doesn't work out to bad. I should be able to get a bunch couriered to me for not too much. I've stumbled onto a bargin if I can get enough cash together.

just make sure he guarentees working condition on arrival.

otherwise dont bother.
It either means it's already breaking - or about to -
or he doesnt know how to pack properly. These are very delicate units !

and if they break they could cost around $300 to fix.

there's a 2 disc set with lots more extras.

I got the 1 disc version, as I've already got the R2 special edition without the dts track, plus this Aniversary edition appears to be 6 minutes longer than the R2 one I already have.

is DTS that much more noticable - that much better than ac3 ?

on my dts system it is, sounds much more crisp and you feel immersed in the film... if you've got dts, try out the dts version of saving private ryan, the beach invasion audio track is awesome.

ShankS

here's some info... it all depends on your equipment setup aswell:

DTS seems to provide a deeper and tighter low frequency presence
DTS allows the sound to breath - transparency
AC-3 seems to leave the impression that something is missing from the mix.
At lower bit-rates AC-3 starts to sound like MP3's encoded at 96kbps (artifacts)
DTS is more three dimensional. The sound actually moved forward from the individual speakers to sound more full. This fullness was most apparent with the music. Instead of simply coming from the speakers, the DTS filled the front soundstage not only side to side, but with more depth as well. Bass reproduction was also more defined in the DTS version, leaving the DD edition sounding muddy.

uhhh .. probably not a good time to know this but there are 2 releases ...

1) the anchor Bay - Fulci Collection release

2) a cheap public domain release that is often bundled with those 20 - 50 packs..

if you ended up with the cheap one you may be unsatisfied.

Thanks for the info, I figured at that price it probably wouldnt be the best version possible...but I rarely watch special featues, and most of the time I dont mind sacrificing quality for price, usually it's not THAT bad. And if it is terrible...Ill just sell it to Blockbuster, save up some cash, and get the Anchor Bay version:)

thats the kicker though..

once you factor the shipping in - it's sometimes as expensive as finding the good one used.

i dont buy on ebay anymore (except cheap lasers from a personal friend)

but when i did i always did research first ...
you're best bet is scouring used DVD places near where you live ..

i might be at a bit of an advantage because Toronto - being a large city - gets stuff like this in the used places a fair bit.

I NEVER buy used off the internet. I make sure everything I buy is new and sealed, especially cause I only buy fairly cheap movies [The most expensive thing Ive ever bought off eBay was Ed Wood for like $15, shipping inc.]. In fact, I rarely buy used at all, and on the rare occaision that I do, I look at the disc before buying, I aint gonna get ripped off...

Piper is pretty good, I've seen a few other films he's been in and he's a decent actor which isn't that big of a surprise since about 60% of wrestling is acting and he was always good at that.

I know there's little to no wrestling fans here so for anybody who's confused, the guy in They Live that says "I have come to kick ass and chew bubblegum......'' is the former wrestler Roddy Piper.

no, there's an anchor bay uncut R2 version anyway...released in 02. The company printing the DVDs weren't given authorisation to do so, wasn't my intentions to get them because of this... I found them for $4 each and I liked the matching cover art.

Yeah I've ordered from them at least 10 times in the past and have never had any problems. The only thing that sucks is that shipping can be kind of slow...it usually takes about 10 days. But it's free...so what can you expect really? And they always have the cheapest prices. Black Christmas= I never seen this movie.... Videostore didnt carry it and even Netflix didnt have it. First time I will see this movie tonight. I heard it was good on this site.

Yep, I noticed Netflix doesn't have it, I wanted to add it so I could rewatch it, but alas, no where to be found. Thought about just buying it myself. Anyway, I remember that it was pretty good, great premise considering when it was made and had some really good scares.

Whats even more ridiculous about Netflix who says they carry over +45,000 movies? They dont even have Phantasm or Candyman to rent out. What the hell!

When I start earning a steady income, I can see myself turning into an Urgeok....buying WAY to many movies lately. Not many by you guy's standards...but still, 5 movies in a week is alot for a kid without a real job.

Just picked up Dagon and The Bunker in a 2/$15 bin. Ive heared good and bad things about Dagon, and never even heared of The Bunker...but it sounded like my kind of movie.

I have April Fool's Day and I really didnt like it.... I was like What the Hell?! at the end. We never really see that at the end of horror movies.

dont read too much into user comments about April Fool's Day bc someone will ruin the ending for you.... Give it a rent but dont buy it. I bought it.... the plot behind it makes it pretty ridiculous. I would just pass on this movie.
