Good to hear the positive remarks about The Relic. I'm excited.
And I'm even more excited because The Haunting (1963) finally came...it was backordered for a while from DeepDiscount. The flick is one of my favorite horror movies.

not great - these things are almost 100 years old ..
pretty choppy in parts(i just watched the 1st one and a bit of the second so far)
the second seemed better so hopefully the quality improves as they progress.
still worth the purchase ..

The Other - After looking for the damned thing for over four years, apparently it just got re-released. i got it from DDDvD for part of my supersale bargain.
Eating Raoul - I've been stalking this for a couple of years, and always had something else that I put it back for. I've never seen it, but I've heard it's wonderful.
As far as the rest of them go, I was either going classics or gorefests. As you can see, gorefests pretty much won the ol' tug of war this round.

Ah! I have very fond memories of "Eating Raoul." Saw that at a special screening before its theatrical release, and it was so funny. Fun, fun movie.
Odd thing however...I rented a "widescreen" dvd a while back, and as far as I could tell, it was the 1.33:1 TV ratio version--but anamorphically distorted into about a 1.85:1 letterbox image. So the entire movie looked stretched like Silly Putty to the sides! On the plus side, it was in stereo, and I had only heard it in mono before.

i dont smoke (anything) and dont drink ..
DVDs and junk collectables are the only things i spend money on for myself..
hardly any are blind buys..I either know the movie, have heard of the movie, or trust the names involved in the movie.
i used to spend so much a month on DVDs i'm embarrased to say it here,
i have calmed down quite a bit .. trying to save money for some other objectives, plus - i dont have any more room. I only buy something now if its pretty special (or i find it dirt cheap)
before we had a kid we went to the theatre at least once a week .. saw everything that came.

I spend probably $60.00 a month on DVDs. I do buy things I haven't seen and want to see because they looked good to me or I have heard things about them that I think I will like , sometimes I will buy something I have no idea about . Almost all the DVDs I buy are used or dirt cheap off the internet unless it is a movie I really love or a concert DVD then I will buy it new but, I will still ususally look for the best price I can find.

I spend anywhere from $100-$500 a month, depending on bills and such.
I'd say about 5% are blind buys (by my definition, this means movies I've never heard of/know nothing about) Almost all of my blind buys are low budget, direct to video affairs. Usually in the $5 range, giant creature movies. You know, Pterodactyl, Cerberus and the lot.
It's hard for me to blind buy anything, since I spend so much time reading about horror movies.
You get crap sometimes, but I don't mind. I consider my DVDs to be a collection, and I like to complete collections. Just like my Spawn toys. Nobody wants a crappy looking Cosmic Angela figure, but if you want to complete the collection you've got to have her:)

when you really think about it - unless you saw the movie with your own eyes - everything is a blind buy..
the first time you see a flick at the theatre - its a blind buy too .. and in the case of my wife and i - a much more expensive gamble (if you're looking at a blind buy in that way) than picking up the DVD used later.

when you really think about it - unless you saw the movie with your own eyes - everything is a blind buy
By that definition, probably 80% of my movies are blind buys. I don't really consider it a "blind buy" unless I know very little about it. For instance, if I bought Ginger Snaps knowing only it was a werewolf movie, I'd consider that a blind buy. If I bought Ginger Snaps after reading what it was about and having read a discussion on it here with different view points, I wouldn't consider that a blind buy.

thats the way i look at it .. technically everything is 'blind' the 1st time ..
but i trust my instincts and some of the information i get here.
you, zwoti and a couple of other people have pretty much the same tastes as i so i trust the judgement and advice of some people.
if Bwind says he doesnt like something .. then i buy it immediately :p

I did like it, even though a lot of people rag on it. The fact JBJ was in it really didn't bother me. I just thought it was funny seeing the guy my friends and I used to lust after in the 80's playing a prep school professor. I thought Gary Cole (one of my favorite actors) speaking with an English accent was more disturbing. Other than that I really did think the movie was entertaining.

i have a book - possibly by John McCarthy - that credits the Wild bunch with being the 1st splatter movie.
the 1st (american?) film to actually show people being hit with bullets - and the bullets actually doing damage..
