I figured it would be the best version with it being a European film.

I thought the commentary would've been in French, glad I was wrong.

@urge- zwoti obviously doesn't have a problem with it so what were you talking about? one too many hits of NyQuil?

Nice, very nice.

Tell me what it has when you find out. Hopefully it has the obvious good ones (Rear Window, Psycho, North by Northwest, Vertigo, Notorious) and some of his less famous, but equally good (Rope, Dial "M" for Murder, Sabatour, Suspicion)

-Mr. & Mrs. Smith (that's right it's a remake but it's different, the recent one is action/comedy, Hitchcock's is romantic comedy)

-Suspicion
-Dial M for Murder
-The Manxman
-Saboteur

p.s.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith wasn't in the box set.

I've seen all of those except The Manxman...I loved Dial M, Saboteur was pretty good. But I never really liked Suspicion. I felt like Hitchcock built this great plot up and up through the whole movie and then just dropped it a little to quickly at the end.

The Machinist= 10/10
Black Christmas= 7.5/10<---i expected more killings and would like to have a better ending.
Candyman= 8.5/10
Phantasm= havent watch it yet except for long long time ago....

I bought "The Eye" as well and I reallly enjoyed that movie... Great plot, lot of creepy parts and nice twist at the end.... That gets a 9.5/10. Its not a complete bite off of Sixth Sense as I read somewhere... Its part sixth sense/stir of echoes/ the gift.... Great movie and I highly recommend it.

After a couple of weeks of fucking about waiting for people to send them some packages arrived today containing:

VHS:
The Lost Boys
The Blob
Critters 2
Gremlins
Re-Animator 2
Necronomicon
Alien Nation
Porky's Revenge
The Abyss
Xtro
Demon Knight
Hellraiser: Bloodline
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation

People always tend to take ages to send me stuff especially if its cheap most of these were brought for a $1 or less. I think I'll just start buying of the one chick now as she always has good prices and is reliable. She's been selling off a large collection of VHS over the last couple of months.

"Rambo".

And...the truly wonderful Chow/Lau team-up "God of Gamblers".

Not a great print but okay and it's nice to hear Andy Lau being interviewed by Rick Baker and friend (whose name I forget but he's still watching the cheesiest dubbed Kung Fu in London's Camden Market all these years later) who were THE source of late 80's/90's Hong Kong cinema for people in the UK (then THE heart of Western interest in the Hong Kong Nu Wave) via his company 'Eastern Heroes" and the GREAt film festivals in London where people like Chow Yun Fat, John Woo, Donnie Yen and Maggie Cheung were often guests.

I totally found a great thing at the used video store, a Tri-Star release of "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" VHS from 1997, this is a rare version featuring a stereo mix. You can't get any version on DVD in stero, and the tape totally sounds GREAT, was in good condition too. I was totally looking for this thing, and when I saw it I did a double-take, because it was only a couple of bucks..."Do they know they have something rare??" I was thinking, so I grabbed that thing. OMG!

Hooray for VHS! VHS is cool, VHS is the new VINYL, it's the retro way to play, that's now today...

"VHS...you liked it then, so why not now?"

Seriously, I still look for videotapes, and they're cheap now too, except for those really rare things like "Night of the Comet" that have not been released (to my knowledge) digitally, those tapes can actually be kinda valuable.

I do like DVDs, and I like laserdiscs also (well, technically, DVDs are a type of laserdisc). If I can get a movie on laser, that makes me happy two. It's a big, bulky format, but it reminds me of the 90's.

You're probably right. This movie is so obscure, I was expecting it to be dark and grainy, like an older copy of "Lemora" or "Putney Swope," but I was surprised to find it to be a nicely photographed film with good sound and good effects, considering the budget.

By golly, it's even got Susan Strasberg and Severn Darden ("I think the young people enjoy it when I 'get down,' verbally, don't you?").

It actually is very cool.

The only thing I find a little annoying about it is the way it folds out. You need a table if you want to open it up, because if you're holding it, it just flops open all over the place and the discs fall out.

The worst was watching my friend literally tear up the packaging for my "Six Feet Under- Season 1" boxed set. The first season had this packaging where one side of the box doesn't open and the inside digipack pops out at you when you open from the end you are supposed to. He decided to take a knife to the closed end.

DOH!

The other two seasons that are out now have easier packaging.

Speaking of HBO series packaging, anybody have the 'curb your enthusiasm' dvds? They have this whole pop up book thing going on too.

The Ultimate Edition DOTD didnt bother me too much, but I kept folding it the wrong way at first... er..

Lifeforce
Man of a Thousand Faces
Lady In White
For Your Eyes Only
South Pacific
Halloween III
The Changeling
Jaws 2
Phantom of the Paradise
The Terminator
Time After Time

They had ten or fifteen others that I wanted, but I stopped there because it was already getting bad.

People were coming in and walking off with huge stacks of stuff. I think it may all be gone pretty soon. The store has sectioned off a bunch of box sets they will sell at collectors' prices, so people will have to shell out for the really good stuff (original Star Wars films, etc.).

Okay, yeah, its a good list. I was surprised to see C.H.U.D. on there. I guess I'm not the only one who likes to see transients chomped to bits.

You need to check out "Devil's Backbone" Yeah, I know I've said it once already, but its worth the ribbing. Compelling, freaky, a bit scary and a nasty chick with a wooden leg.

LifeForce rocked! Lady in White was just spooky and weird. I love the fact that they made the trailer FIRST, showed it arround and through that built their production dollars to make the rest of the film!

Actually, "Lady in White" was the second movie I ever worked on; I did some prop building for it, back when it was in the "trailer" stage. I remember visiting Peter Kuran's studio briefly and seeing a small scene being photographed.

I also remember they had a wrap party for the shooting of the trailer, and there was this huge cake that looked like it was made out of ice cream, or pudding or something. Someone had placed the cake in very dim light, but it looked pretty tasty. So I grabbed a plate and cut myself a slice of this thing, and took a big bite of it. It tasted horrible! Turns out the whole damn cake was made out of mayonnaise dip, like for potato chips! It was solid mayonnaise!!

I had the pleasure of working on a commercial over at David Miller Creations, the artist who did Freddy Kruger and the Cryptkeeper makeup effects. Very humbling and inspiring. If you get a chance to check the place out (if he is still in North Hollywood) its worth it. They were working on Face Off, and had a life-size Nick Cage effect they were detailing. It was verrry cool.

Never met David Miller, that I remember, but he does some nice work, definitely. I especially liked the original "Nightmare on Elm Street," that movie is scary as heck, and Freddy Krueger's makeup is really disturbing.

What did you think of The Ugly? Quite a dark little movie. One of my favorites that were made over here. Its a pity all the actors in it have gone back to their shitty soap opera roles and not been snapped up for anything else.
