This is why I need to use subtitles while watching British TV. There's a guy who keeps asking for a book and he repeats the title over and over again and to me it sounds like, "The Little Book of Cum" but I'm pretty positive that's not what he's looking for. Maybe, "The Little Book of Calm," but I just keep hearing "Cum".

[QUOTE=_____V_____;767740]Just say whats running through your thought-processes at the moment.
I am thinking 3 things at once...
- About the slight ache I have been having in my left ear the past 4-5 days,
- About conjuring up a novel marketing strategy for a new fixed deposit scheme launched by my company, and
- Wondering about what happened to all the members who have disappeared from HDC in the past month or so. And if they are lurking under Guests...how to get them back posting in here.

I know it's been terrible. We are very lucky here cos we don't get floods but I'm worried that we are going to get another arctic icy winter so I'm keeping an eye on the weather reports in case I have to do some preparations-there's no way I'm going arse over tit on the ice. People round here walk really fast on the ice while I end up slipping and sliding-I don't know how they do it!

My geriatric dog Lily has just been diagnosed with diabetes. Now,I cant take her for walks anymore and I have to rub honey into her gums when she starts to shake as it means shes hyperglycaemic. This week has been really tough and I just wish she'd get better and stabilise a bit.

Aww, I hope you can get her stabilized soon! It didn't take us too long to get Sammy going with the right insulin. That funniest part of all that was I had to go to a real pharmacy to get her needles. I always got the funniest looks from the pharmacist when I told him they were for my cat!

Need to vent, I'm so pissed off right now.
So, today's supposed to be the worst of the hurricane, starting around 12:00-1:00. Every state in the area (PA, NJ, DE, MD) has declared a state of emergency. I never got a call from my boss to not come in to work. The governor of Delaware (where I live) has said no one is to be on the roads. If you're caught on the road, you could get a $150 fine. So, I come in to work. I'm the only one here. Talked to one of the guys and he called the boss. THE BOSS IS WORKING FROM HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So, basically, he's saying fuck all of you, I'm staying home. When Mark told him about all the states of emergency and whatnot, he said "Yeah, I'm aware of all that." And here I sit, alone. Fuck him, I'm leaving.

I had a similar thing happen once. Years ago when I was in college I was working at an auto parts chain store and we were in a Blizzard. The police were saying stay off the roads or you will be fined and we were under a state of emergency.
I drove into work (about 20 miles away) and it's just me and another guy. The Boss stayed home because he couldn't get out of his driveway (He had a 4x4 truck while I had a Pontiac Firebird with wide wheels in the back for racing, and after shoveling for an hour I was able to get out and make it to work on time, but anyway).
He said he couldn't send us home until he heard from the higher ups at the company. So we worked all day as the snow came down and finally about 3pm, an hour before we were closing anyway, he calls back and says, go ahead and close the shop. Not only did we not have ONE customer all day long but when we walked outside, the snow was over the hood of my car!!!
Lucky for me the other guy stayed another hour trying to help me get out of the parking lot. It was such a load of crap...

Fuck him, I'm leaving.
i can understand that, bosses are wankers.thats what sucks about the world ,the more higher up in the workplace you want to be,the more of a wanker fuck face you have to become

I want to vote on the basis of horror.
Which candidate is a friend of horror movies and the like? On the one hand, Obama comes without the baggage of supporters who would censor horror. On the other hand, Romney seems to offer a small-government approach that lets businesses like the film industry do their own thing.

Depends on the security of the venue, and the crowd.
I've seen it in recent years at bigger outdoor shows. People are more sensitive to a nude human body these days. If somebody's walking around naked, they're not just free of clothes...they obviously must be a perverted deviant who has to be confined to cloth.
It's some bs. I'm not a nudist, but I could dig on some free-spirited nekkidness while enjoying live music without the judgment or potential over-sexualization by my peers.
I was born too late.

Were people naked in the 1972 Grateful Dead concert? After Woodstock, one wonders if acid and nakidity walk together hand-in-hand.

For our Random Thoughts thread...
Happy US is not going to shoot a bunch of million dollar cruise missiles at Syria. At least not now, with the Russian sponsored deal where Syrian government will hand over their chemical weapons to 3rd party/UN.
I think international community should take a stand against killing civilians, and chemical weapon attacks in a city is particularly inaccurate. Just have to figure, as advanced as missile strikes can be, things go wrong in the real world. Not sure if US was planning on hitting chemical weapon storage spots, but that leaking out doesn't sound wise. Not to mention anything mechanical can go haywire and hit civilians. Plus who used the weapons, by who's orders, I read, it's not 100% determined. And a missile strike doesn't necessarily accomplish the goal of ridding the exists of the weapons, nor their use by either side, nor the safety of civilians, nor the conclusion of hostilities with a peace settlement.
I think the international community (& US) should be assisting in a settlement where all citizens share power, and assisting organizations and nations that are absorbing/assisting the refugees.

Ya think Texas Chainsaw Massacre just can't be duplicated today? Or is it the remakes just don't get what the original was about?

Ya think Texas Chainsaw Massacre just can't be duplicated today? Or is it the remakes just don't get what the original was about?
Well technically it's not a remake. It's supposed to be a sequel following after the first one but honestly not Texas Chainsaw Massacre cannot be duplicated. What helped make it so great was the time period that it was made during.
The way it was shot and the lack of effects and the grittiness due to the kind of camera work back then really added to the movie. It was a dark and gritty movie itself, so having this high definition crystal clear picture doesn't really work for Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Also they keep doing shit storylines. A friend told me what happens in that movie. I don't think they could've done a dumber story.
Sculpt
09-17-2013, 11:04 AM
Ya, I think you're right about the time period The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was made as being important. When it came out, there was buzz about it being a true story. And the opening text (basically) says that it is. I think Hooper starts with a documentary feel, and then seamlessly moves into a POV and then multiple POV, so-to-speak. It's very 'this is what happened' and 'you were there' without the announcer. I think that was what it nailed.
I know some folks liked the sequel (TCSM2 86). I hated it. It was a completely different mindset. The murdering family became the stars and anti-heros. And it featured tongue-in-cheek humor (meant to really be funny). Those two things are alien to the original.
I don't know what Hooper was thinking. Have to read about it sometime. Maybe he thought a sequel in the same vein was ridiculous, so it was mocking the audience; who knows.
The only horror sequel, that I can think of, that followed the same mindset as the original was Halloween 2. Was done by a different director, and considered a flop. Capturing the subtly of Carpenter was mostly unsuccessful.
The Villain
09-17-2013, 01:18 PM
Yeah I hated TCM 2 as well. The only other edition I've liked is The Beginning. Sequels are tricky when the original is so iconic. Although I'd say Friday The 13th Part 2 is a good follow up.
BTW not to nitpick but its Hooper, not Hopper

Ever seen Bride of Frankenstein?
Yes, I have. Once more just a few months back. You told me it was your favorite film (so I will sincerely be respectful to it).
The story does pick up where the Original leaves off. But there are definitely different 'mindsets' between the two. Bride introduces humor, self-parody, satire and non-reality. To me, those make Bride very different than the Original. Take the scene with the miniature king trying to get to the miniature queen, with the accompanying 'whimsical' music. I'm not sure if this is intended as lighthearted self-parody, or something else? Pretorius said he 'mixed in seaweed' to make the mermaid miniature (as opposed to fish material). The correlation between experimentation in bringing dead bodies back to life, and Pretorius' miniature creations, seems quite divergent. There's no effort made to explain how the miniatures correlate to Frankenstein's experimentation. The film isn't concerned with these reality elements. Surely the chilling serious reality of the Original is forfeited with scenes such as these (at least they are for me). Suffice is to say the introduction of humor and non-reality are alien to the Original. And so, I find them different in many fundamentals.

Fuck.
Apologies in advance for the rant. I've been trying to stay positive but this morning all I can think of is FUCK. TODAY. I want to go back to bed.
My fucking shoulder hurts. A lot. I'm pretty sure that it's from a leftover chicken pock from childhood - I realize that I should probably see my doctor but I have no idea what she would or could actually do about it besides prescribing high doses of ibuprofen, which do absolutely nothing.
Also - Seriously - Fuck work. FUCK IT. My manager has put me in charge of a HUGE piece of our Team's budget - I didn't ask for this. I feel like this has been thrown at me because she has no idea what to do with me, which worries me for a whole other set of reasons. Also - Fuck - I'm a Goddamn English Major. I have no desire to deal with finance, numbers, or budgets. I don't care. I can't get myself to care. I HAVE NO FUCKING DESIRE TO MANAGE A FUCKING BUDGET. I should be happy that she's giving me more responsibility - But fuck this. I need to start looking for other positions but I have no idea what I want to do... Also I think I'd really like to leave my company but since I've taken advantage of their tuition reimbursement program to get my MBA, if I leave, I'd have to pay back the tuition that they've reimbursed. Fuck. Luckily it's a big company so there are a lot of internal opportunities but I honestly just don't fucking care about what I'm responsible for right now.
Need to stay positive... I'm getting married November 1st. That's a good thing, and also probably the main reason why I could give two shits about my day-to-day right now... I just want to say Fuck it All. FUCK.
Ok. That was pretty cathartic. Thanks for letting me vent.

But hey, look on the brighter side. At least there's a job which is keeping you busy with it's share of headaches. All being said, maybe the days after marriage will bring about some changes. Till then, hang in there and keep going.
The impending wedding day must be bringing excitement and nervousness in equal measure, eh? Nothing like butterflies in the tummy + bright smile on the face, with that twinkle and extra-bright shine in the eyes. ;)
In the end, you can always fuck a duck for good luck. If Mark doesn't object, that is. :D

Right now the working plan is to go Jan 6th - 17th... Work the week of Jan 6th and travel/have fun the week of Jan 13th. I'll need to get approval for the time off, but I think it'll be fine. I'm excited but also overwhelmed because I've never been to India before so I have no idea what I want to do for my personal travel!! (which is higher priority than coordinating work stuff of course)

I guess I'll put this under Random Thoughts because I randomly started thinking about painting a couple weeks ago. I've only really ever painted in Acrylics and Watercolors and have always wanted to paint with Oils.
Anyway, I haven't painted anything in probably 3 or 4 years and even before that it was pretty sporadic. It's just something I like to do but never seem to have the time for. I'm still learning techniques on how to work with oils but here are my first two paintings.
This first one I did about 3 weeks ago. I apologize for the blurriness on the left side. It's tough to get my camera phone to focus on the whole picture, but you can get the idea.

wow, those really look good, Bro! Good compositional flow on the first one.
On the second, you do really good rock/mountains. They look real. The waves look very real too. Plus I love aquamarine. The composition is really trippy. I'm not sure what you're doing there. Is that a shore line and beach for the bottom right? With the size and direction of the waves, I'm guessing this is more abstract?
Oils are a certainly different to work with than watercolor and acrylic, eh? I had a real hard time with my one try at oils in high school.

No, I just fu@ked up...lol. Although everything I do seems to have a sense of abstractness. It's not intentional, it just comes out that way. But no I just was having fun making waves and eventually ran into the shore. Part of me thinks there's a big rock "unseen" that the waves are wrapping around out of frame from the picture, but who knows.
Like I said, I'm really just trying to learn techniques so these are just kind of practice paintings. I think the next one I do will have a bunch of mountains in it because that's something I haven't tried yet although similar technique to the rocks in that painting.

Yes, tricky question. How would we know if we came across a ghost dog? ::EEK!:: If we heard ghostly barking, or licks on our face? Can't say I've ever heard of a ghost dog or cat. You'd think we'd heard of it if there was.

Correct me if I'm reading you wrong, but your post sounds like you're angry, and felt mistreated (and understandably so), right? But I'm not sure how that relates to your conclusion on atheism/theism. I mean, personally, I would never become a theist, atheist, or agnostic, because some human threw me out of class. You know, that is, I don't know that anger is a useful tool in deciding if, what or who "God" is.
What was it exactly that you questioned in class?

Nah not angry at all. I just questioned why we have souls and animals don't... we were both created by god have feelings, interact with other beings etc.
It was then as a kid I began to realize that the whole idea of God is a bit suspect and the bible was being used or interpreted to further people's agendas.
Guess it just sewed the seeds for rational thinking is what I was meaning.

The getting thrown out of class for questioning a metaphysical position still surprises me. Curious, when the instructor threw you out of class, what did you actually say (or do)?
In my head, just imagining,
Instructor: "Humans have souls, and animals do not."
Elvis: "Teacher? Isn't it possible animals have souls?"
Instructor: "Elvis! Report to the principals office!"
That scenario would really shock me. Did it go down like that? Or were there more appreciable reasons?

I'm not sure how I feel about the concept of the "Soul." I like the concept, but the cynic in me says that we're all just flesh and blood and nothing. That consciousness comes from that lumpy grey matter at the top of my head.
That being said, if humans have souls then I believe that animals have souls. My cats sing the blues with MD's dog.
...
But I was dropping in on this thread to articulate a more base and immediate matter - Just found out that at work I'm getting moved from one Team and my current Manager to another Team and a new Manager. Yes, I realize that reorgs happen all the time, but they literally made the reverse move about six months ago. Six months ago I was reporting to D and then they moved me under A. Just today A told me that I'll be moved back under D again.
Honestly, I like working for both of these people, so the shift doesn't bother me per se - I'm just worried that the reason why I'm getting moved around is that my department doesn't know what to do with me, which is concerning.
I was literally updating my resume to apply for another job inside the company when A told me I'll be moving back under D again. Couldn't decide if I wanted to go through with the application because I didn't want to offend D (plus I'm hoping that the move will offer more opportunities) - But still.

Now that you're being moved back to your old position/team, are you also changing shifts? For most people changing shifts is a huge deal.
If you don't know why you are being moved back to that team, and it's been about 6 months, I'd assume it's for staffing needs. I'd certainly not assume it has something negative to do with you. On the contrary, it probably has to do with how proven useful you were to the prior team.
Still, you are certainly in your right to ask your new team manager why you were moved back. The managers surely assume you are going to ask. Might as well ask, as you're curious, and I'd say important info as to your current status in the company.

Gocha. I don't know how old you are, but I'm sure you already know the old proverb "it's not what you say, but how you say it" - which of course means instructors, and most anyone, is open to questions and other thoughts if it's addressed respectfully -- it matters what words are used and how they are said. Most unreasonable/insane instructors are removed in short time, but sometimes you're the person who witnesses those people before they are found and removed.
That's weird though because the whole soul into animals thing is discussed pretty in-depth in the bible.
Indeed it does. Interestingly enough, many books of the Bible read animals do have souls... references to numerous to list them all. Really, with the Bible, and any book, it's all about the context as to what the word means, and what's being said. Plucking "verses" out of any book are often misleading. There are multiple meanings to soul in these references.
Genesis and other books read both animals and humankind have souls, referring simply to "having life". In addition, Genesis makes it clear God made humankind was special and different than animals... Gen 1:26-27: "God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.' So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."
Of course what MurderDoll was referring to is whether or not animals have a soul that exists apart of the body, or after the body dies. As a whole, the books of the Bible do not indicate animals have "that type of soul". Ecclesiastes (the first existential book, I like to say. truly a great book) 3:21 does read, "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?". But again, it's about that sentence's context (which is often poetic, and not necessarily literal), in that book, and then the Bible as a whole.
The books of the Bible do not specify there will not be an afterlife, eternal life, heavenly or spiritual life for animals. In Revelation's description of a New Earth, it doesn't reference animals, but it's certainly possible. Bible reads God determines our afterlife. If an individual desired an animal in that "new reality", I'd suggest it's certainly possible any animal could be restored.
The books of the Bible do reference humans having a body, soul and spirit (though some will interpret some scripture that God bestows a spirit only to some humans through Jeshua Messiah) . The difference between them is a whole other subject. But the Bible is clear in referencing that God offers humans eternal life.
I found this, I find it a well written and accurate synopsis answering the question Do Animals Have Souls? according to the Bible http://www.apologeticspress.org/apcontent.aspx?category=11&article=582
