Oblivion

Found it pretty cheap the other day so bought it on impulse. Have only played for about an hour or two, so haven't really gotten into it yet. But from what I have seen it looks pretty immersive. Good graphics and a very explorable world.

The movement/combat system is a bit different to what I am used to, so some brain reprogramming required, but it shouldn't take too long.

Yes Oblivion is a great game. Untill you kill the evil lord.

After that you start to wonder what the hell you´re supposed to do now?

I never figured that out...

Played a bit of Prince of Persia - sands of time...until it pissed me off. I don't know if it's just me or what, but the first (quite early in the game) fight scene against some baddies along with your reanimated "father" is just too fucking hard...what are you supposed to do here? I managed to kill over 20 of the fuckers, and still, STILL I get killed and no sign of progress. See, shit like this pisses me off...an otherwise fun game, fucked up.

Started playing a cool old rpg game called "soleil". So yeah, still with the emulators at the moment.

Well known, but worthwhile
Super Mario World (Best in the mario series IMO)
Zelda - Links Awakening
Super Ghouls N Ghosts - Great fun...

Can't go wrong with....
Zombies Ate My Neighbors (the sequel "ghoul patrol" is ok...)
Flashback - The Quest for Identity = Legendary.

Also, a lot of people seem to mention "Secret of Mana", and "Super Metroid"...apparently both quite good.

Some others...
The final Fight Series.
The DK country sequels SEEMED as good as the first one
Castlevania, I remember all the 16-bit ones being pretty cool.
Double Dragon/Battletoads
Secret of the Stars

...Oh, and if you can ever FIND a copy, you'd be in for a treat with EARTHBOUND...good luck on that though, it's rare as it gets.

I mean...SNES was a great system...and if you can appreciate games despite age, games that might not be new, but are "new" to you, then there's a LOT of fun to be had from the system.
Personally, I just emulate with a PC control pad for more selection, but if you can find adequet hard copy supplies as opposed to downloading, I'd go for it.
When your system dies, I can tell you where to DL anyways.

Also...just picked up 2 games for pc, in the "cheap, but not yet played by me" range at EB.
$10AUD each
*Runaway - A road Adventure...which, being a fan of sam n max, full throttle, broken sword, grim fandango, and other games of that nature, I've always wanted to play. Thus far it's been pretty good...only turned it on pretty quickly though, but looking foward to playing through it.

*SACRED (PLUS Edition) - Always thought this looked awesome. Seems like a mixture of dungeon siege and diablo, with multiple character paths. I hope it's as good as it looks...

Runaway - A Road Adventure
I'm usually quite ok with point n click adventure games...stuff like Broken Sword, Sam and Max, Grim Fandango, but admittedly usually have to look up walkthroughs for maybe 10% of the entire puzzles throughout the game...Actually, the only one I HAVEN'T had to do that with is "Broken sword 2" , which I got stuck in towards the end...sooo...anyways.
This one's much the same. Decent storyline...not "great", but not bad either. I have to say I thought it would be a little better, but hey, it was $10 when I picked it up the other day.
The puzzles in this one are frustratingly stupid at times...if you don't see some TINY object in the background, that's it, or sometimes ridiculously annoying stupid shit like "you didn't see it because you didn't look into something TWICE"...ETC.
Thus far, I'm on the third level, and I've had to look up about 4 puzzle points on the walkthrough. A little more help needed than average on this one, which annoys me...kind've takes something out of it.
It's "ok"...nothing spectacular. I kind've want to see how it plays out so I won't ditch it just yet.

Been playing a fair bit on the ol' dreamcast again...I go to a site that regularly re-releases game torrents, and there's plenty I haven't yet played.
At this point I'm torrenting DOA2 (Never played ANY of those), Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves (Never played those either), and something called "virtua fighter History" which I assume is a collection of sorts...

One that I got I've been playing a fair bit is "Guilty Gear X"...Honestly, this game has some of the best visuals I've ever seen in a 2d fighter. Good characters and range of moves...reminds me of Marvel vs Capcom 2 in certain elements, but also stands out well on it's own. Never played any of this series prior, just saw them...I had no idea the DC version looked so crisp and played so damn well...glad I picked that one up.

I still have that "runaway - road adventure" game on my pc...haven't been playing it much really...still wanna see if I can complete it at some point, but right now, I'm not overly concerned. Might turn it on soon for another go, see if it doesn't piss me off.

Also been replaying a lot of Marvel vs Capcom 2 from zero extra characters....this time I wanna actually unlock everyone and everything....probably take ages, but I don't mind playing through it here'n there. Always a fun game with a great range of characters...easy to use too.

Hmmm....the girl has been looking at some demos, and I'll just say that while it's not my style of game (for pc anyways...for console I'd prefer I think), it sure looks good. Game called "Infernal"...I guess if you like games like the punisher, max payne and other third person shooters, you'd like this. Shooter with a demonic twist. Very cool, looks great.
She's also been looking at the game "Bone" based on the comic...looks like a bit of good adventure fun there.

My new work (yeah...I'm an office 9-5er for now...'til I finish my studies, which I'm doing at home, since there's just the theory left now) has Sony as a client...part of what our office does is runs the ps2/ps3 tech line and gaming lines. So, there's a ps3 there. I got to see it and play with it a little something like 3-4 days prior to its release here. Fall of Man looks badass, and some offroad type racing game I checked out that you can play as a motorcycle or car was pretty fun too.
I've gotta say...the ps3, without doubt is by far the sharpest machine out there right now. Yes, I want a wii first, but this here ps3 looks crazy...graphics, loading times, framerates, the silence of the machine, ALL better than the others. The controllers are very comfortable too, and just the right heft to 'em, they've kept largely the same layout as the ps2 with some additional features and what I'd call improvements (the shoulder buttons are now kinda rounded and at a bit more of a convenient angle), but you'll just "know" the feel, which is great.
So yeah....think I'll definately have to pick one of these up... Even though I can afford one just now...I'll wait a few months though, I know this one'll drop in price for long term competition. But yeah, sure does look great.

Oh, and this week, I'll be grabbing F.E.A.R on my pc, which I understand will run it perfectly. Looking foward to that, some...

Ok, so that's what's going on in my gaming world just now...

Still working my way through 'runaway - a road adventure'...slowly...frankly, I don't know why...it's fucking annoying as hell. The STUPID things you have to do to solve these puzzles are more like "try to combine every random-ass item you have with eachother and pray for a solution" more often than not.
Very dissapointed, I bought it expecting it to be something like Broken Sword, having said that I feel as though I severely insulted the broken sword games, they SHIT on this one.

I know I said this in another thread, but hey, more people might read it here...last week I found a re-released copy of the sierra/lucasfilm title "Full Throttle", which I never got around to playing, but always wanted to. It was only $10AUD as well...

Another "old" game I found was at an op-shop place that sometimes we cruise into for cds and dvds at a very cheap price. I found a copy of a game I'd formerly played only a little of called "Omnikron - The Nomad Soul" for $3AUD.
I'm not planning on getting into it for a while, but this game always looked plenty interesting to me.

Last night I played a little bit of a game I got for Dreamcast "Blue Stinger"...it's a fairly early game on DC so it's nothing great looking, but seems to have an ok storyline thus far, and feels a lot like "the thing". My main complaint is that the controls aren't that good...but, I think I can play this.

Another one I've been playing a bit of lately is another DC game called "Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolf" which seems to be a spinoff of the FF games, as only one of the original characters that I know of is in it. I like this one. It's not super-fast like some p vs p fighters, the moves are varied and not all that crazy, and the control system makes it easily accessible to the inexperienced player. Pretty decent game.

Blue stinger on dreamcast can go fuck itself...it's just dodgy. The controls and cam angles completely SUCK, there's no genuine scares, and the game lacks any kinda good atmosphere.

Getting into Silent Hill 3, which is the first one I've played since getting up to the piano scene in #1 and saying "fuck this". This one seems cooler. Also, something that is great, is that (this one's on pc) when I have my 10 button pc controller in, the game automatically customises it to play just like the playstation version. That's cool.

Full throttle I'm playing through slowly, it's pretty good.

It's really worth it if you can find it under $20. The unique story and picture taking mechanic is pretty cool. Jade's a strong female character and her funny sidekick Pey'J manages to have just enough to him to not be a simple cliche buddy that tags along. It's short but fun, actually it's like an indie film in the game world... along the lines of Psychonauts. Interesting games that never got the mainstream attention and didn't have the budget to advertise to the masses.

Unfortuanatly it's still the best non-port, portable rpg. The battle system is well fleshed out, there's a ton of side stuff to do, the online play it good... only the difficulty level plays against it. It still provides a lot of stuff to do and it's a very balanced game.

I've beaten one and two and most of three. I wasn't going to buy The Room until I beat 3 but I found it for $3.97 on Black Friday so it sits on my shelf unwrapped... oddly by itself by Grand Theft Auto III and Midway Arcade Treasures 2 but I don't see any of my other Silent Hill games which is why I was confused. So, I decided to just move on and play Silent Hill 4 (until I can get another copy of part 3 and finish it)...BUT, I wasn't aware of the first person view shit...I can't stand that...Tunnel Vision...It was the reason I gave away Torok after I bought it brand new...I can't handle not being able to see all the way around me...AND the controller configuration is the same for Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, AND Silent Hill 3, but it's completely different for Silent Hill 4 (Items and actions in different places)...It's gonna end up making me waste supplies on accident, and get killed while attempting to switch or reload weapons, as well as popping up the map about a million times while I'm trying to do something else...It's frustrating and irritating...NOT fun

As a result...I am NOW playing Resident Evil 4...

Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition

This game is enormous! 24,000 airports around the world are modelled. You can fly around the globe with the entire earth topographically modelled (although outside of major centres and landmarks there is 'stock' scenery). You can synchronise the game's weather with real world weather reports on the internet. On top of "free flight" there are missions, and a flight school training module, as well as multiplayer over the web.

I haven't had a copy of Flight Simulator since SubLogic Flight Simulator II on the Commodore Amiga which must have been around 1987. Prior to that, had it on the Commodore 64. It is amazing to see the progress that has occurred in the last 20 years (!).

Trialled (hired) a couple games last night for ps2.

Need for Speed: Carbon. The girl plays those...wanted to see if she could get the hang of them on the ps2, as we've only had them on pc thus far, as I thought, the ps2 had easier to use controlls, as per GTA.
Seems like an alright game, much the same as the rest of them with a few extra features thrown in...oh, and the guy from battlestar galactica.

YAKUZA - Pretty decent...feels a bit like Shenmue meets GTA meets The Warriors. Decent storyline. I'll probably get this eventually as it seems like a game I'd be willing to play through, despite 2 annoying factors.
1: For some reason there's subtitles over the words written in the game, even though they're in english. Turning the subs off only worked for the audio conversations in the fmvs and ingame.
2: It loads every 2 minutes. It's like you play a tiny little portion, and then it has to load yet again. Too much of that shit.
However, it's not a bad game...a little arcadey, but fun...like I said, this'll be an eventual purchase for me...Going to EB today to grab a couple games for trade-in.

Phalanx

Traded in, as I said I would.
Got 2 games for 4...ha...

Anyways, the two games were;

*X-MEN LEGENDS, which seems "ok"...not thus far as great as I've seen some claim, but it seems alright. Good comic-book "feel" to it. I have slight issues with the "only above" viewpoint, and no initial character selection screen.
Does the second one recolve the viewpoint issue at all? Because if it gets to me enough, this one might be going back...

*Jet Li - Rise to Honour.
Now this, for me is one of those games that I just plugged in and immediately liked. Got the elements I mentioned liking above in "yakuza", but a faster, cooler fighting system, better controls, and I don't get a loading screen every couple minutes. Pre-rendered "press now" kind've stunts thrown in are simple and easy to use enough that you can actually look at them, and appreciate their beauty. Storyline...uh...kind've 80's hongkong martial arts vibe goin' on, some nice cutscenes.
But yeah...good fights, and it seems that later there's some gunplay too. This one looks like a keeper to me, for sure...and I'd reccomend it.

Still going through "rise to honour" the Jet Li game on ps2.
I don't really like the gunplay sequences, but they're "alright"...the hand to hand/foot/head/knee...etc...combat is great though, and the control system is one of the best I've seen, works perfectly for this type of game.
The gameplay is moderately difficult, it's not a cakewalk game...I have to admit it downright pisses me off here'n there, but overall it IS good. The music and cinematics are all there, and the whole thing is like playing through a 90's martial arts/crime movie.
If you're into being challenged, give it a go.

I'm making the girl play through god of war 1. Bought it again (new ps2 for the first time in a while, see), as it's a game worth having and replaying for sure.
It's good fun to revisit, seeing all the little things I'd forgotten, I mostly watch her but jump on every now and then...Great, savage, epic game. I'd suggest playing this if you haven't, especially if you're a fan of games like the LOTR ones based on the movies...it's a little like those, but imho, MUCH better. Truly one of the ps2's greatest...and again, cannot wait for the sequel.

An interesting game, but the pissed off to pleased ratio was a little on the negative side for me.

Playing through the Warriors now...just finished the tagging competition level...what a sonofabitchofalevel that was...ans then the fight and rooftop scene, I swear I just about got japped!
Pretty good game...I LOVE how well it ties into the storyline and feel of what's to this day one of my favourite movies. I don't think it'll have quite the replayability of rockstars GTA titles, but hey, we'll see. Some cool bonuses too.

I've just finished Tomb Raider: Anniversary, it was an awesome game. It's a remake of the original Tomb Raider game , but using all Lara's new moves and the free flow feeling that Tomb Raider: Legend had.

I would recommend it to anybody who enjoyed any of the earlier Raider games.

Lately I have been playing Virtua Tennis 3, The Godfather, and GTR2 on the PC.

All good games.

Got them all for 1/2 price at an EB sale.

Virtua Tennis 3 is actually a lot of fun. Quite easy to get into, and the mini training games are enjoyable.

The Godfather is similar in many respects to GTA but has a mafia theme (obviously) and an interesting combat system.

GTR2 is a great racing simulation. Gives an amazing sense of speed especially when you choose nose cam. I anticipate this one will get a fair bit of repeat play.

Well...I thought I'd be playing through resident evil 4 right about now...I tried it, got over the fact that there were no zombies, realised that the game had evolved into a different type in this case, but could not get past the change in perspective and controls.
It feels like it's lost a part of itself, (not as bad, but) much like the "survivor" part of the series, and for me, the "new" control system just equalled lack of mobility and quickness...and even though it looks like a decent game with a good storyline, I just could not get into it.

I have a feeling that if there's a #5 it may be closer to the original games in terms of perspective and control.

Going to have my first play of GOW2 now...I'm sure I'll like THAT.

I've been playing both those (original psp released) GTA 3/VC spin-offs, turn at a time. They seem alright on the ps2, and probably one of the biggest handheld games I'd have ever seen.
The ST on the vice city one isn't quite as good, the missions in both can sometimes be too easy, but then again sometimes they piss you the fuck off too.
I'd reccomend VC Stories of the two of them in terms of both storyline and play/options...neither will let you down though.

Also the girl picked up that Rayman minigames thing, the one with all the rabbits. Man, those things look like fuckin' crackheads! freak me out man....but, it's pretty fun and one of the better partygames out there (although haven't played many of the newer minigame series)...kids of all ages would have to love this one, most adult types can get in on the fun too. I can see why they tried to pimp this one on the wii so much, it'd have to be just about perfect for those controls
Varied gameplay difficulty, but never stupidly hard (yet)...
Good buy at the current price for those that have been considering it, or a partygame like it.

I've KINDA picked up onimusha, which I know is great...for anyone not knowing already...it's kinda a faster-paced action survival series by capcom. Controls like resident evil with a bit of devil may cry thrown in...demon/magic themes as opposed to zombies. I'd reccomend it.
I keep getting sidetracked from this one though, bought too many games at the same time a while back...confusing.

The new NCAA? They're ok...

Online seems to be laggy and the passing game seems a bit weak to me but it's not enough to make it anything less than the best NCAA football game so far. One thing I've had a problem with is disc read errors though. I don't know if the game is glitchy or just my copy but my other games work fine.

Oh, another grip are the opponents. It seems like playing EMU is just as tough as playing Michigan. The teams just don't vary in difficulty, at least not in legend mode.

If you mean GoW, I think the controls are really good, except for maybe a dive here and there when I was looking for cover or a missed headshot because the aiming is a little sensitive.

Badass... despite the flaws this demo is a blast to play. As Inspector Tequilla you slide down a rail while shooting people up and then dive off the rail onto a rolling cart first taking out the people in front of you before rolling to your back and taking out any people you missed. Also, the accurate aim power is amazing, the hit detection on it is fun to play around with and allow for some great shots (the groin shots look painful and VERY funny).

Neverwinter Nights: Diamond.

I got Neverwinter Nights 2 a while ago and was totally enthralled. So I thought I would get the original to get some of the background/history.

Anyway, installed it on my machine, and it seemed to be working fine until I tried to load a game that was saved when I was in the Docks district. My computer just hung, had to shut NWN down.

I thought it was probably a Vista incompatibility, so I grabbed another hard drive and installed XP to dual boot with. Under XP the problems were worse - the latest Nvidia drivers don't work at all with this game (just get a black screen) so I installed an older driver. Now I could play, but the same problem occured as in Vista. Eventually (through lots of searching and some trial and error) got it to work by turning off some graphics features.

Annoying to think that the same solution may have worked under Vista. But the game itself is great. The story is not quite as enthralling as NWN 2, but it is early days yet. Makes me want to play the pen and paper Dungeons & Dragons (which I haven't touched for about 20 years).
