Doom 3 is a very good game but a little claustrophobic, Far Cry has some beautiful outdoor levels and up to last week was my favorite. Now that Half Life 2 is in the rotation, it hits the number one spot. IMO

It combines the best of both worlds, great level design, indoors and out, ability to ride vehicles, and so far a very good story.

I haven't really been scared in a game before but there is this one section where I was walking through the sewers in about 2 feet of water when this thing comes out of the water in front of me ......I almost dropped my beer as well as shit my pants.

That is true but in a bad way. The story line sucked in my opinion...it was really short...the graphics looked toooooo cartoony... the characters werent believeable...and so forth

The only good thing about the game was the "slow motion" addition to the game.

I guess its pretty fun if your just screwing around on it....like doing actual, believable tricks in slo mo is fun for awhile..

There's kind of a story to this all...so it's a little long, but I garauntee, it does EVENTUALLY lead to what games I've been playing, I promise.

So check this out....had a PS2 a while back, but got rid of it due to a month of no games I wanted coming out...anyways, point is, I don't have it anymore.
My OLD Dreamcast also broke, died slowly after being dropped...
I loved both systems, probably the dreamcast a little more, but then again, ps2 has the ps1 library behind it...so I guess all things considered, they're ABOUT even.

So, I've been pc only for a little while, but last week, I purchased both a chipped ps1 (the tiny one), and a dreamcast (which came with a ctrl and an arcade stick...SWEET!!!), BOTH, with some fireworks, and some badass weed, very cheaply.
I mean MENTALLY cheaply.
Anyways, there was a few little problems that kinda pissed me off, but here's the story of how bad, went good.

The PS1 had no controllers, my friend neglected to mention this to me, or, claimed he did and that I forgot as I am...forgetful...either way, the thing came with over 50 games (sure, they're all copies, but hey....I gives no fuck), so it's sitting there with these 50 games - totally unplayable.
It was 5 minutes too late to head to my local Electronics Boutique, I was stewing all night looking at the USELESS system with contempt.
(That's the bad luck bit)
so...I started playing the Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast worked fine, came with 1 ctrl and 1 arcade stick, and 7 games - 3 official and 4 copies.
Three of the copied games needed a goddamn boot disc, which I didn't have, so I was left with four working games:
*P.S.O - SOOOO Boring, I hated this game...
*Sonic Adventure 2 - Which wasn't in it's case, my friend still had it, yeah, and he calls ME forgetful.
*Gauntlet legends - Which I don't mind at all...
*Capcom vs SNK - which is ok, but yknow not great I.M.O, I was always more of a marvel vs capcom 2 kinda guy....

So I had all this stuff, and all myself and GF could play (really) was Gauntlet legends...which was fun, but got a little tedious after an hour or so. So yes, that whole night, I was reflecting upon the situation, thinking that even how I got this INCREDIBLE deal, it seemed like I'd been fucked over, not so much by my friend, as by fate.
Although I did have fireworks and weed, so all was still RELATIVELY well...

The next day - this is where the good luck happens...
Yknow how I missed the EB business hours by five minutes? I'm glad I did...'cos when I went in to buy two ps1/ps2 controllers, they'd been put on 1/2 price that very day. Had I made it on time the day before, I would've paid double.
I picked up two joytech controls, not their shitty ones either, two VERY good ones, cool black and grey colour - and rubber countoured grips along the bottom....FUCK YEAH, they are SO the best controllers ever. So there you go, my good luck begins with the ability to play 50+ games on a very comfy half price controller.
THEN
I called my korean friend Steven to see if he wanted to hook up that night to set off some fireworks at a nearby sports field...and during the conversation on the phone, I mentioned that I got the ps1 and dreamcast...so he says
"oh, ok...I used to have a dreamcast, I still have a few games if you want them, the system broke"
So I told him that he could bring 'em along when we met up.
Later that night at the sportsfield, he rocks up with a bag, a BIG bag full of stuff. So, since his DC was broken, this stuff was just sitting around. I got a memory card, an extra controller, and like 20 games, all at no cost whatsoever...so, after setting off a few fireworks, telling my friend how kickass he was, smokin' a J and chillin' for a bit, I went home.
Ok, so there's the story. Overall, I think the good fortune dwarfed the bad luck...

Ok, so I've been playing:

*Soul Calibur on DC - This is still my favourite fighting game, I like it even better than I did the second one, SO replayable....I played and played and unlocked all the secret characters.

*CTR on ps1 - My gf and I played for HOURS last night to unlock all the extra battle stages...then had a few battles. - BEST. RACING. BATTLE. EVER.

And I'm right about to get into a game called Grandia 2, which I've heard is pretty good...

I am FINALLY playing Shadowman 2...I have had it for over 2 years and just never got around to it...Probably because I KNEW it was going to be incredibly time-consuming...Based on the fact that the first Shadowman was the longest game that I have EVER played in my entire life, and I fucking LOVED it....

On topic -
Playing throught "from dusk til dawn" on pc.
Storyline works like a sequel to the first movie...seems Seth Gecko decided the best thing to do after making it through a life endangering vampire experience, and making it across the border despite being chased down by the law, noteably with a sizeable amount of cash...would be turning himself in to the authorities, and confessing to his involvement in the crimes...
Not surprisingly with his brother dead, the full wrap is put on him, and yeah = jail time. Setting, similar to the jail shown in face-off, only without any cool magnetic leg clamps.
The story from then on end gets a little ridiculous. Vampire con arrives to save his brother from execution, vamps a few people, the infection spreads = jail full 'o vamps.
You escape, pick up a taser, and off you go.
It's not really very well made. Your character (Seth) moves around in a slow and awkward way, combat is not only cramped and difficult, but at times but quite boring...not to mention dissapointing, I mean, you're up against vampires, you'd think you got to use some improvisational weapons... ? Nope, just guns, and yeah, same shit over and over again.
The graphics are...well...alright I suppose, but the game is a few years old now. The npc's are quite fun, even if all they do is shoot the badguys with you...
There are also a few HUGE glitches, like walking into walls and getting stuck, falling through the floors and dying, and missing "door open" queues, getting trapped inside or outside certain places, forcing you to restore to the last save point.
Annoying.
In all fairness, overall, it's "ok" - A little frustrating at times, and just...not very good. It's not yet pissed me off enough to ditch it though.
Maybe worth a look for fans of the movie.

Collect the talisman. Exit the room and head right. At the end take a left through the doors. Take another right and a left at the first hallway. At the end, turn right and then left again. Finally, you leave the hospital. Cut scene. Out of the hospital, turn left and head back towards the motel. Watch for flying bugs and dogs. About half way up on your left you will see a place called Heaven’s Night. Go up the stairs and enter this bar. On the right you will find shotgun shells and on the left table you will find a first-aid kit and beef jerky. Leave this bar and head back to the main road.

When you get there turn left. At the end of the road turn right and right again into the motel. Straight across from the entrance you’ll find your room #106.

Cut scene

So now you want to head northwest on Nathan Ave. to the amusement park. Go straight out of the motel and turn left. Once you’ve gone far enough you get a cut scene.

I'm playing through Max Payne 2 at the moment, for only the second time.
Statements I have made about this game no being quite as good as the first may have been a little premmature.
While the overall gameplay hasn't really changed, the graphical detail IS a lot better, the storyline is just as good, with even more twists than the first, and the great dialugue and narrative is still there.
Definately has all the style of the first one...I just don't think it knocked me on my ass like playing through the original did, the very first time I saw it.

I just played Star Wars: Rebel Assault 2 on PS1...Borrowed it from a friend...and actually spent only about an hour and a half completing it.
I found certain elements interesting, the fact that film segments were integrated into gameplay (even though said segments came across as a cheap 80's knock-off series, they were fun)...and that you got to play around in various vehicles over land and space, between a few stages that were on foot.
However, the controls were absolutely shithouse...very slow and unresponsive. The gameplay was also pretty linnear, and judging by the completion time, clearly the game was far too short.
The whole thing was "ok"...that's about all.

I'd reccomend that if anyone wanted to play a starwars game something LIKE this, but IMO a lot better, try "shadows of the empire", which overall had a better storyline, excellent gameplay, more responsive controls on multiple vehicles AND on foot, a GOOD length, great fights, and a nice varienty of missions.

I played a little Mortal Kombat Trilogy today (I only really like the oldskool MK games, I think the series died at #4), which was a bit of nostalgia and fun.
Whilst on my PS1 phase, I also ordered a platform game about a lemming called "Lomax" which looks pretty cool thus far. I've yet to get into it though.

I've just installed a game called "Breed" on my pc...which seems to be a hybrid of Halo and Starship Troopers. Nothing too groundbreaking, probably just a clone kinda game, but, fairly decent graphics, and "ok" combat so far. I'll give any FPS a chance though, so I'll see if it gets better.

I played through some BOOORING training stages, all presented in a fucking EYESORE of a green shade to look all "virtual" (but really, it was just irritating), some combat training, and some vehicle training, then onto the first mission.
The vehicles have the most slow, unresponsive controls...not to mention, the airplanes are almost impossible to fly, it took me about 20 goes just to finish the level without crashing...
The overall controls are revolting...rather than being able to "share" certain common controls between the vehicles, and on foot, you have to set up controls for movement, combat, ground vehicle, and air vehicle...and get this - none of them can conflict with eachother...
The first mission of the game itself was just too chaotic, and I don't mean GOOD "call of duty" kinda chaotic, I mean, stupid, disorganised shit happening everywhere.
The ONLY good thing about this game was the ability to swap between different squad members, each with special attributes...and the orders you could give your squad. However, when you don't give them orders, rather than performing as most npc's should, they shoot a little, and generally get their asses kicked and leave 95% of the bad guys to you, and there was 3 of them!...that there was some annoying shit.
Oh yeah, and even while running, your character moves around too damn slow.

Nice visuals and sound, and what MAY have been a promising storyline, but...that's pretty much it, the rest of the game really DOES just come across as a dodgy Halo rip-off...and I didn't even like HALO.
I'd avoid this peice of shit at all costs...I only payed $5 for a burnt copy, and even at THAT price I feel jipped.

Know what? I dunno if it's just me, but I'm getting kind of fucking SICK of like, every second FPS game out nowdays being somehow squad based...I don't know which game started this...but it's beggining to really get to me.
Don't get me wrong, the overall concept isn't BAD, I just think you should have the choice to go solo, and, have npc's that are actually more than just cannon fodder.
In call of duty, it was great...your team actually felt like one, and kicked just as much, if not MORE ass than you.
However, in like, every other game since, I've found it annoying as hell...The kinda IDIOT squads most games have you working with/protecting...well...they'd get your ass KILLED in real life.
Fuck off with the goddamn squad based SHIT!

I started X-Men Legends again...Im up to the 1st time you go to the H.A.A.R.P. place. Using Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm and Iceman...I think Ill trade Cyclops for Jean Grey though, he really isnt much help until he's leveled up higher.

I played one that was similar about superheroes...freedom force I think it was. However, the x-men one looks WAY better.
I have to make sure I don't miss this one...a few years ago, there was an x-men mod total conversion for quake, interestingly enough called the rise of apocalypse.

It's definatly all that. Ive played alot of X-Men games, and this is probably the absolute best. Not incredibly hard, but chalenging in some parts just the same [Shadow King took FOREVER to beat]. I highly reccomend it!

BTW- I have Freedom Force for PC. Pretty fun game, IMO, but XML blows it out of the water.

I love the old games especially Nintendo.
I still have an Atari 2600 with about 80 games my favorite is Mrs Pacman.
Although most of the time I just prefer to play spin the bottle with some of the girls in the neighborhood, most of them are skanky but it helps pass the time.

I thought painkiller was fun, had a great physics engine...I've never seen bodies flung in so many ways. And pinning someone to a wall? great stuff.
I mean, it was nothing too special in terms of gameplay, we'd seen the same from the frantic arcade style shooters like "will rock" and "serious sam", however, I think painkiller had much better atmosphere, cooler music, and looked WAY better. In fact, I recall hearing that when it was released, no game rivalled it graphically, at all...but yeah, I see your point, there's only so much running and shooting that you can do before it gets tedious.

Wow...this gam shits allover Soul Reaver thus far...not that I didn't like that game, this one is just WAY superior.
LOVE the storyline, the score, the powers you can develope, the combat is ok...the overall gameplay and graphics are very nice.

Very cool game. The characters are great, some awesome unlockables, and a very different fighting system. The 1 player stry mode is different from most fighting games, and it's very fun. Recomended if you're a fan of other Marvel games.

Im still on Marvel Nemesis. I read one review that called it easy to play, hard to master. Whoever wrote that should et an award, it is absolutly dead-on. Ive been stuck on the same 2 levels for so long [Cleansing Flame and Scuttle, incase anyone's familliar with the game]

I have been playing Far Cry....what a long, difficult game. Not TOO difficult, but I'm usually more than profficient with my FPS games, and this one just kicks my ass.

I'm looking next to get a certain game...not sure of the name, but I know you can play multiple roles in it, eg: you play as the killer, a detective, a cop, or a priest? Something like that? Either way it looks interesting, gruesome, and great....Anyone know what the fuck I'm talking about??? Farenheit is the name I think, anyone?

What a coincidence. I just picked myself up a used copy of Fahrenheit (called "Indigo Prophecy" here in the States) for $15! From what I've played so far, it seems to be very cool. I was a little concerned that the action sequences would be poorly done, but they seem to have pulled it off well. I don't know if I'd pay full price for it, but if you can find a copy used, check it out.

Gun for the XBox, great game and while it's short the huge amount of side missions make up for the length and I liked the story.
