Cod Black Ops im loving the bare bones part of online dont like perks and all that.

Deadly Premonition this game is so bad its good sort of Twin Peeks feel to it its by no means a good looking game.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam. Battlefield always has the best online games.

That game deadly premonition actually looked great...but played like absolute shit...seemed to be really interesting but no, I'd never play it more'n the half hour I afforded it, the control system was absolutely gimped.

The last game I turned on when I had the time was "Silent Hill - Homecoming" not sure if it's just that I need more time, but right now not getting TOO into it.

Will hopefully be playing marvel vs capcom 3 this time next week...

That game really disappointed, and I bought it for like £40, played it for about an hour and just gave up, could tell it was going to be one of those games. Traded it in and got half my money back.

Anyway, started Killzone 3 last night, anyone thinking about getting it, do yourselves a favour and get it. There's only been 2 other games I've liked on first impressions so much, being Uncharted 2 & Heavy Rain. This game looks crazily good in aesthetics, soundtrack, gameplay. Look forward to playing through it when I get the time.

Pretty fun so far. Pvp rocks, Pve is a good mix of futuristic versions of otherwise campy old stories (mad doctors, warlocks, raising demons, cursing villages with lycanthropy, etc) and the overall backstory is catching enough to make it a fun mmorpg. Not really 'horror' but a lot of the monsters and quests are at least horror themed.

I am not currently playing any, though we've recently obtained...

Me:

Sega Megadrive Collection (Dog ate the last one)
Too Human - Looks ok...strange control system...but yeah I'll play it.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 (which I just...don't like...)

Her:
Fairytale Fights
Flatout - Ultimate Carnage
Mysims Sky Heroes (this actually looks fun, hate that retard talk though)
Blur - which is like...mario kart type shit, with real cars?

We also got a copy of tetris evolution between us, but, it didn't work so my guy's gonna have to send another.

Seriously. How can I still be the only one at HDC playing this at them moment?

I'm pretty sure I'm halfway through by now. And so far there's been pluses and minuses.

The big pluses has been the facials and voices of any characters in the game. And there has been a LOT. Also the gameplay is like a mix of GTA and Heavy Rain. Feels like you're playing a crime movie with lots of driving.

The minuses comes of the repetiveness. Pretty much all missions follows the same pattern, which is kind of a let down when you get into the game. Also i'm sure most gamers won't give a shit about the extra missions untill they've completed the main story, which makes it less "open world" even tho the map IS huge. You just don't care.

But I like how they've change the whole "open world" concept with this game. And I'm sure a lot of other bold moves will follow after this one. YAY!!!

Majin & The forsaken Kingdom.
Fair old bit of wondering around in this title...can feel slow at times...and while I feel that it could use some more dialogue, it's a pretty playable game with a good level of challenge.
It's kind of like, mashed up elements of Zelda, Shadow of the Colossus, Enslaved and Kingdom Hearts.
It's a tad rough around the edges in places but stunning in others.
Very nice musical score.
Feels like a quality title thus far, enjoying it.

Those that don't like depth or any kind of "puzzles" in games need not apply, it's not laden with them but it's definitely not one for the button basher crowd.

Taking a break from Majin & the Forsaken Kingdom to have a look at BioShock 2.
Not too different from the first one, but thus far it's got a much better storyline IMO and slightly more structured level design.
The game can be frustrating, though it's pretty immersive and easy to lose hours on.
...Feels maybe a bit more like Bioshock 1.5 to me though, the gameplay improvements and changes are not huge...but I suppose if you liked the first one getting another outing into Rapture is pretty cool and I like that they have tied it in to the storyline of the first one quite well, with some moments that make you rethink things entirely and very interesting revealations.

I am wondering if they'll throw in the "twist" like the first one did?
My guess:
The messages are somehow from the past, the daughter is either dead or the big sister that keeps running away/swimming away/watching you. and/OR the player is not who we're supposed to think he is.

Progress...I've just finished dealing with some dude that turned himself into this ?thing? living in a big tube. Feels like the end is not all THAT far off.

How is it compared to the first 2? More action oriented, this one has a cover system. You can move from cover to cover depending on how much is by you. It still has the F.E.A.R. feel though. Dirt 3 on the PC.

Great game so far - have only played the first set of races, but already there has been rally stages, an arena race, and a classic car rally.

Glad that there seems to be a bit more bias towards rally events than Dirt 2, which seemed to favour arena events.

Still have the stupid over-the-top commentary. Sometimes I yearn for the days before voice acting was commonplace in games.

Resistance 2, first time playthrough.

I found that there has been certain improvements made with (obviously) updated visuals, changes made to address a few annoying issues of the first one - such as the first one having scope/aiming that was toggled, yet a crouch that was not, and no run/sprint...these were the only real issues I had with the first game and it was refreshing that they were no longer an issue.

Having said that, I have to say I'm not really liking the game itself.

The first one had a nice, dark, atmospheric scifi feel to it - this one feels well, a bit like a COD clone with Aliens. I don't think it's a bad game as such, just that it in no way feels like or resembles the first one - don't get me wrong, I'm all for sequels striving to not be carbon copies of the first game in the series...things like Uncharted, and Half Life come to mind as game series that have done so...but for me, they still bear a lot more resemblance and similarity of overall tone and "feel" to their predecessors than Resistance 2 seems to have, just seems like the team that worked on this one didn't give a whole lot of respect to keeping what made the first one great.

I will continue playing through, but it's hard not to be disappointed, it's a bit like a run of the mill military shooter has just been painted in the same colours...The multiplayer should be alright, might have a look at that afterwards.

cheebacheeba
08-09-2011, 02:18 AM
Finished with Resistance 2...just not a great game IMO...especially not when stacked up to the first one.

Started "Bulletstorm" which I thought looked really fun.
Great dialogue and a REALLY nice looking game...but in all honesty playing it just feels fiddly, the "skill" shots might find their mark with fans of games like Serious Sam etc, but for me it was just an interruption - if one had the ability to turn this off I think it would suit the needs of a wider audience.
The "whip" thing? Well this concept is getting a bit old...the whole shoot plus power of some kind. I had it in Bioshock 1&2, I had it in Singularity, and now this just seems like more of the same.
Though all this stuff I can deal with...no real issue, just a few nagging issues that would keep me from calling it a great game.
However, the game has found a way to piss me off quite early.
Some who've played it will know it as the "train" level...I was fine up until this point, and hadn't died once...and now I reach this scene in which I die 5-6 times...I take the bitch-out option of turning the difficulty down to Easy, then VERY easy...doesn't seem to make a shit of difference, I just keep getting shot the fuck up without any means of finding cover.
Quite honestly, if it's about luck rather than skill then this just shits me.
I'll give it a shot a few more times, but yeah right now thinking about giving this game a pretty early retirement.
I'll give the game what it's due - if you want to play a moderately challenging FPS with REALLY great looks, futuristic vibe and good dialogue/humour then you'll like at least *part* of this game.
If you don't enjoy grinding away at one small segment while getting killed again and again and again and again and again then you might find yourself in the same frame of mind about it that I am currently in.
Just when I thought "Yeah, this game's good fun" along comes the tolerance tests that developers always seem to love pissing on you with.

cheebacheeba
08-09-2011, 03:26 AM
Update - Died 3 more times, but got past the level.
Just a cheap, shitty level in an otherwise decent game.
I really do quite like the setting and dialogue in this one, and as I said before it's a great looking game...just don't think all the skill shots are really needed, I don't much like having words on the screen every few seconds.

Okay, been playing it for one more hour now. Lot better than Dead Rising 2, for 1 main reason. The undead are not all around you constantly, which gives you much more time focusing on your goals or just exploring. I personally appreciate that a lot. Yea, it's a little like GTA in an exotic undead world, without a vehicle. And the graphics and gore factor is niiiice. :D

It is a lot of fun yes. The question is, will it be too repetitive in the long run. The missions have to be very different for it not to be. But so far, so good.

Okay... day 3.

Not only is this an amazing game. Most definitely the best i've played this year, might even crawl its way up in my top 10 of all time favorites.
BUT, this is also one helluva comercial for New Guinea. Yea, who knew? Well, except for the zombies and the HIV facts, of course.

Can best describe this game as a mix between "Just cause 2" (Location) and "Fallout" (gameplay) with zombies added instead of mutants and soldiers. HALLELUJAH, PRAISE JEBUS!!

Alice: Madness Returns on the 360...

Talk about a disappointing game... The graphics are really sub-par - The colors are washed out... With such a fantastic backdrop, I really wish that you could interact with more of the environs, but unfortunately you can't... Being that you can grow and shrink at your will, one would THINK that you could shrink and go into little nooks and cranies, but not so much... Also, the story's pretty terrible.

It's a shame because it could have been fantastic if, say, the Bioshock people were at the helm... But this just seems like a pedestrian effort to me. :(

I have.
If you liked games like BioShock, Bulletstorm, Enslaved, and Singularity...it's got elements of those with what seems to be a slightly above average storyline.
Cool "fucked future" scenario. Good atmosphere.
I see a lot of potential in this one.

I've been playing through a slightly older title called "Venetica", bit of a Fable clone really...rather slow with some interesting features. Lots of side quests, and skills to learn. Feels a tad "bargain bin", but it's a solid enough adventure/rpg for me to continue with.

Still playing Rage in my free time. Enjoyable, but I agree with critics that for such an "open world" it's pretty empty outside of quests. Gorgeous, but wish it had more that you could wander around and fight, explore, and plunder. Also the lack of a major plot thread is a de-motivator.

Put Venetica aside for a while (slow game...) and started on another I'd had on the backburner for no apparent reason "HomeFront".
It's not bad. Another game that mirrors CODs control system.
I like alternative history/what if type realities in games so that's a pretty cool factor for me. It's nice looking enough with some pretty intense (sometimes annoyingly so) combat. Nice dark reality, this I like.
Only things I don't like is sometimes grenades just kill you very cheaply no sooner than you see the warning icon, and, your character moves around rather sluggishly. Nothing so bad that I won't keep playing, every game has it's flaws, and this one doesn't have a great many.

After playing Fallout 3 and absolutely falling in love with it, I can't even express how disappointed I was in New Vegas.

The glitches are really inexcusable - I understand that a huge amount of testing has to go into a game of that size, but COME ON - If they're looking for people to QA it, I'd be more than happy to volunteer. ;)
It was definitely boring - Considering you have such a fantastic backdrop (I mean - VEGAS), I really think that they should have had a better story and a better cast of characters... I was also ultimately disappointed in the environment - Maybe they didn't have the rights to put in more casino games/names/whatnot, but I honestly expected more... More games, more gambling, more shows, maybe? I don't know... Just more.
The load times were HORRENDOUS. Considering that you couldn't fast travel into the heart of Vegas it was SO PAINFUL to have to go through at least two load screens to get into there - HUGE flaw if you ask me especially since this is supposed to be the CORE of the game...

I really shouldn't listen to Zero Punctuation's reviews before planing a game because I can't get his quibbles and complaints out of my head...

Alan's narrative is awful and annoying (he speaks as though I'm the most retarded audience member on Retarded Audience Member Movie Day)
Fighting is repetitive
There isn't a whole lot of "surprise" factor because all of the Bads announce themselves before they attack ("HEY! I'M OVER HERE!")
The characters are interesting, but I'm too busy running around in the woods to really engage them

It's atmospheric and creepy, but I guess I wish it was more open and less linear. Good concept, but seems thin to me.

Nice looking game really...and maybe I'm being a bit judgmental here, but I just don't really like the feel of it.
I don't like the way your character and the enemies move around.
Reminds me of the same issues I had with Resistance 2, it felt like a twitch shooter.
It looked like it should have had atmosphere, yet seemed lacking of it.
I don't know, I've barely even played much of this game and I just don't think I'm going to...I played through bulletstorm, and this game reminded me of it, though I actually liked bulletstorm.

You have said the same things that irked me with Rage.

Yes,it looks great but like you said cheebacheeba,it just doesn't `feel` right. The moving from one area of the game to the next and then go back again doesn't sit right with me.
The characters all feel strange too,i really don't care for anyone in the game,i just wanted it to be over.

I played for a few hours then couldn't be bothered with it any more,so i exchanged it for Battlefield 3.

Uncharted 3

Man these games tell a hell of a story but to be honest, 3 feels a little lost to me. There's a big ordeal with modern day pirates that derails the story a bit and like the first game there's too many ridiculous gun battles with hordes of armored enemies. That said, the chase scenes are an awesome addition and exciting as hell to play even if they remind me a little bit of the original Crash Bandicoot. So far I still think 2 was my favorite (the writing in 2 and 3 is incredible though and the dialogue can be funny as hell) but that may change as I get further into 3.

Tweaked the graphic setting for Call Of Duty: MW3 and had a decent blast on it last night. Great fun. Lots of people don't seem into it but as a casual gamer I reckon it's alright. I've been playing Operation Flashpoint: Red River when I'm in the mood for more of a realistic/tactical combat simulation. PC is definitely the best platform for FPS games. I don't get into the controls on consoles.

Doesn't make sense it isn't there when it's desperately needed in every mission you do. Too many enemies. Impossible to do without cheating. I've just spend the first 3 days buyng every factory and store en the city. Very peaceful way of playing such a game. NOT what i had in mind.

Started out on this and haven't found it to bad but yeah I'm going to have to go buy factories and stores to avoid the cops. This just makes it more like GTA than the action game I was expecting.

Just a warning.

After you've purchased the full game they want you to spend more money on it. I hate those kind of "cheap downloads". If you want more dungeons, weapons and enemies you can have it. If you pay more money. My ass..

Thanks for the warning-I'm not too keen on paying for a game more than once I think it's ripping people off so if I like the demo I may buy it but I won't shell out for any extensions of the game. If we pay for thews extras we are only encouraging the company to do it with more games so there's no way I'd do it.

My thoughts excatly.

Sure it has been fun playing mostly due to the nostalgy level. But they should never try to make it more than that. Just an ol school game experience, that's all. It can never become more than that.

I started playing "Heavy Rain" the other day, have been looking forward to it.
I haven't had time to progress very far...
(only to the first scene in the "two years later" part, if that means anything to those that have played it)
...though what I've seen so far is impressive.
A strong, story/dialogue driven game, a lot like playing through a movie.
Graphically quite outstanding too.
I'm looking forward to the *actual* storyline emerging and getting right into this one. From what I've seen, it's going to be a very atmospheric game.

QuanticDream, they have a knack for making games like this...they don't feel entirely like a conventional game experience, though they don't lack entertainment value whatsoever.
Ever since Omnikron (The Nomad Soul) I've followed their work and enjoyed everything they've bought out.
I wish more games of this quality would come out.

You should like it.

The expansion pack #1 "The Lost and the Damned" is probably something you'll quite like as a SOA fan.
The second one "Ballad of Gay Tony" was a lot of fun, more along the lines of GTA:SA and Vice City.

Just played a demo of "Binary Domain" on ps3.
Not sure if it's on 360?
Either way fucking cool looking game...it's like elements of Terminator, MGS and Gears thrown into one shooter.
It's squad based, or at least the part I played was - though your team moves around on their own quite well and seems more competent than annoying.
Kind of actually feels like what the last Terminator game should have...?

The first set of endings I got
*Spoiler*
The girl died.
The son died.
The father hung himself in his cell.
The agent died in a fight in the junkyard, and is now some entity in the shades.
The former victims mother who survived the car trap came back, having figured out who the killer was, and shot him in the head.

So yeah I didn't do all that well either.
There is a feature in the game though that lets you go back and resume play from any level, so I've since completed it with various endings.

Just been having a look at the demo for WARP, which is a PSN/XboxLive title.
It's quite well made really.
Storyline is minimal but serviceable - You're a captured alien, you have to escape and evade recapture/death by avoiding or destroying the things you encounter.
Hm, it's like a puzzle oriented action/stealth game.
Pretty fun.
Have a look at the trailer, I reckon a few of you might want to play it.

I've been playing through a "Streets of Rage" marathon on the "Ultimate Megadrive collection" on 360.
I've beat #1 and #2, about half way through #3 now.
(I really wish a more complete 16 bit collection would come out)
Fond memories...I remember days where you could walk into an arcade, before every game became a Street Fighter clone, on-rails shooter, or a (usually) lackluster driving title, Beat 'em ups were pretty popular.
I miss them dearly. So simplistic.
But nothing was more fun than walking around with 2 players, smacking villains about, finding weapons and food in garbage bins and rusted out barrels, and coming up against outlandish bosses that always seemed to be about 3x as big as any other character in the game.

I really long for this kind of stuff somedays.
Final Fight, The D&D arcade games, SOR of course, Runark, Gang wars, UC Cops, The Punisher, TMNT, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, battletoads, Vendetta, The Simpsons, and not to forget the game that got me into the genre - Double Dragon

It's not just those games I miss of that generation...it was a time that gaming was really powering along in my opinion. The 16 bit and arcade era of around the same time will forever be my ho-to for fond gaming memories...The beat em ups, the action titles like POW and Metal Slug, The platformers were at their best here too.
I'm glad for emulation but sometimes I just wish they'd sell a machine that played and ran awesomely with access to every game I've ever wanted.
The wii tried, but has not succeeded yet.

Ah, one day.

Might put on "Castlevania - Lords of Shadow" for a bit.
Not a bad game so far though it's very God of War....I'm not really loving it, but for some reason I'm compelled to finish it.

I'm fond of emulators (have them for nearly every console on my Mac including Arcaade Games though can't work the Sega Saturn emulator to play Shining Force 3 though I'm trying) but I get where you are coming from the golden age of arcades have gone now. Used to adore the beat em up machines of "Asterix" and "The Simpsons" (Playing as Marge and hitting enemies with your hoover was adorable). Haven't played any of the Streets Of Rage games in years couldn't you in the 2player option beat each other up?-I swear me and my mates were always helping use the enemies to kill each other. I don't think you could do that on any of the Golden Axe games.

There is.
Look up "Sega Mega Drive Classic Collection".
There's like four of them...I'm sure you'd have the ability to make it run through a standard USB gamepad as well - and not being emulated, these should actually play and look like they're supposed to.

Haven't played any of the Streets Of Rage games in years couldn't you in the 2player option beat each other up?
One of them has a "duel" mode, they might all have it, who knows.

I don't think you could do that on any of the Golden Axe games. You could, same thing, at least one of them has a duel mode.

Though in both of them, you can actually hurt eachother - every time I play one with the girl, I always hit her and she hates it.

I was able to download the complete Streets of Rage fan remake before SEGA shut them down. I haven't played it yet but it's supposed to be really good. SEGA is for the most part incompetent these days. They knew fans were making the remake and allowed them to finish the game only to get their lawyers involved when people were enjoying the game.

I foolishly sold my original Streets of Rage cart because I thought that the SEGA CD version would have better music. I'll have to get that again. I still own Streets of Rage 2 on cart and the uncut Streets of Rage 3 on Mega Drive. There is a good Yuzo Koshiro Bare Knuckle Allmix track out there on the Net.

There was a cool Double Dragon poster released a few weeks ago by Rhys Cooper. I tried attaching the image but for some reason it's not working. A simple search should bring it up. The poster glows in the dark too. The Double Dragon version on GBA is pretty good.

The God of War and Hideo Kojima influence on Castlevania is the reason I haven't purchased the game yet. I'm curious as I love the Castlevania series and will get the game eventually. But the abundance and formulaic nature of the portable titles on GBA and DS of which I've played and finished the three GBA titles. I have the DS titles sitting here waiting to be played soon. Add in the poor PS2 main titles and you have a company that was killing a great series. Castlevania 1, 2, 3, Super Castlevania 4, Dracula X, and Nocturne in the Moonlight/Symphony of the Night (although way too easy) are all great games.

Shining Force 2 is my all time ever fave game I must have played it all the way through on the hardest setting several times and never get sick of it. If You loved Shining Force you will love it-you have more freedom to move around and it's no longer in chapters. It's too easy on the "normal" setting though make sure you play it on one of the harder settings. There was also a Shining Force 3 on the Sega Saturn. That game was quite different though they tried to make it 3D which meant you moved a lot slower plus they took it back to the chapter format. Sadly it was done in 3 scenario's with Scenario 1 being the only one available outside Japan at the time so never played the other scenarios.

On the other points thanks I'll try and get some two USB port pads as I'd rather revisit the old golden axe and streets of rage series without the Mac's keyboard.
