They definitely left it open for a second season.
So what'd ya think? I was considering checking this out. How would you sum up what it's about?

Jett -

It's not horror but an episode midway in the season is straight out of a Tarantino movie mixed with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Benson...wasn't that like a sequel show to some other thing that ran for years?

I last watched one of the final episodes of WENTWORTH.
Personally I haven't loved the series since two big parts of the original cast left...back then it was amazing and while it hasn't been flailing since, the whole thing feels maybe a little pointless. I guess it'll be nice to know how it all ends.

Did you hear they actually announced another season?
I was under the impression this was going to be the last so I was kind of...what the fucking fuck they're gonna leave it like this?
Nice to see an old face, even though it was just...yeah...the end was a hell of a tense episode...and even though they kind of had that one last conversation I was thinking "fuck, they're really gonna do this to Boomer??". Crushing stuff, and a goodbye to one of our most familiar faces, and hello again to...another one...will be interesting to see where they go with that, and, well...who was the body?

It's not the show it was...it reached it's heights probably in season 3 imo, but still good writing, and very very watchable.

Actually I have to thank you, I totally forgot this had started. And I didn't know another season was to be. Awesome. I thought this was a good season for Boomer. Got to see where she came from..so heartbreaking yet, a learning process. And Liz. : ( what can anyone say..she'll always be a sweetheart. <3 Nice to see Frankie, one of my favorites from past seasons.

Seriously, if you haven't seen it - do yourself the favour.
Through and through amazing for so many reasons. It's surreal, heartfelt, depressing, funny, weird, tragic, viscious...it's a mongrel of a show but it's so SO strong.
Good characters, brilliant writing. Some of the best conversations I've ever seen.

Ha, I'm actually just through the second episode of The Boys. SPLAT!
Main dude reminds me of a young Michael Shannon.

I always looked at the comic as something that looked cool, but not really my thing.
Was it Garth Ennis? I like some of his stuff...a lot of it's a bit over the top but hey, it's not standard superhero shit yet again.

Actually between this, Preacher, and not one but two Neil Gaiman productions lately, not to mention Lucifer...it's like these kind of like...we're in this age where the comics I've really wanted to see are making the cut. I like it.

So?

Finished Perpetual Grace.

Except for Ben Kingsleys character I didn’t like anything about it.

First big problem was the story. It just wasn’t very interesting to me. On top of that there was the characters, dialogue, music, cinematography etc. Everything just felt super pretentious. As if the whole thing was created by David Lynch and the director of Sexy Beast.

Sorry, I won’t be watching any future seasons of this show and I’m quite honestly surprised if there will be any future seasons. What is there to look forward to? What was the cliffhangers in the last episode? The funeral speech? Riveting.

cheebacheeba

Pretentious...not a word I'd use, a little derivative perhaps.

What, you didn't like the Little Tornado speech?

I dunno...it was slow...but for me it was all about the conversations...not a lot else happened, I get that.
I guess I just look forward to more of that.
The conversations were well crafted and almost surreal.
I liked the weird.
I think it'll be interesting when all of the characters collide, each of them knowing what they now know.
I don't know if I'd want more than two seasons personally.

Looking forward to watching S2. I enjoyed S1. Didn't you find the ending of S1 a little weird... well, in particular, the main dude had a fight with his GF, saw her with a dude in the dark. Then they show him looking at her through the window of a laundry mat. Then I think he goes in, but they don't show anything that happens between the two. As if all the recording confrontation got accidently erased and the editor had to get creative. Why wouldn't they show them talk? weird.

Hi Sculpt,
We did start with Season #1 of THE AVENGERS, watching the first two episodes, which I found seriously wanting. But wife assured Me the next episode "Cybernauts" picks things up.
I think THE CIVIL WAR has nine episodes. Either way, TCW is FANTASTIC and been many years since giving it a spin. Like just about everything Burns and his crew does and I would recommend WORLD WAR 2, THE ROOSEVELTS and especially THE VIETNAM WAR to one and all. Don't really care for Baseball or Jazz, but would probably watch h the two docs KB did, just because it's KB! His
recent release on Country Music should be informative and interesting
I have NETFLIX and would be interested in your recommendations...so.........LET'S HAVE 'EM::big grin::::big grin::::cool::!!!!!

Last night I continued to watch the Pre-Picard "key episode" list I've been working through as recommended by one particular site.

To be honest I'm finding a few of the suggested episodes a little superfluous...like all the Romulan-centric episodes. I get there's Romulans in the new series and it seems like they may have a major role, but still...some dry episodes there, outside of maybe one "The Defector".
The Borg episodes are involving the "Hugh" character, the damaged borg they found, that gained back his individuality before deciding to re-join the collective to carry out a Starfleet plan...because apparently he returns in the new series.

Anyways. It's a nice relaxing re-watch in any event.

Last night I put on an episode that wasn't on the list on netflix, because I thought it sounded interesting and my memory of the latter part of TNG is well, almost non existent aside from the finale.

Will Riker is basically studying for a part in a play that he gets talked into...about a man falsely accused for a crime he can't remember, and considered crazy.
Then...through a plot device I won't go into...it becomes real.
The enterprise isn't real.
Starfleet career isn't real.
He's killed someone he can't remember and in a psych ward.
Lots of twists, turns and headfucks.
It was actually a really good episode...and fun to see Riker in distress ha...

4 more TNG episodes to go, including the EXCELLENT double episode finale.

Then onto the Voyager list to see some more borg/7 of 9 stuff on the list I'm guessing. Might watch the finale too.

Then the TNG movies, even the horrible Nemesis.

The Defector, Frame of Mind and I, borg were pretty interesting.

Maybe because you mentioned the new Picard series, I had just watched a few TNG eps for fun. I watched Devils Due. Good ep. And some I didn't remember: "The Outrageous Okona", "Time Squared", "Contagion"... not that good.

You have a list/link of eps one should watch before Picard?

Ever see The Inner Light ep? That might be a similar concept to Picard.

What do you think are the best NG eps?

This is the one I've been going off.
https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2019/08/the-ultimate-list-of-what-star-trek-you-should-watch-before-picard/

Ever see The Inner Light ep? That might be a similar concept to Picard.
Yep, that's one that was on the list.
Solid episode, but...I don't know, I feel like it could have theoretically done in one part, but I get the significance and importance of the Star Trek season finale/launch double episodes.
It was nice to see the crew under different circumstances, and the whole "mission" angle was pretty interesting. Both parts of the show, the Picard parts and the enterprise parts were actually pretty interesting.
Captain ?Jallico? was a bit of a fuckhead though eh.
Stewart put into this episode.

What do you think are the best NG eps?
I'm not too familiar with that many by name...TNG was on when I was quite young and I've only watched through it once since...I preferred Voyager at the time I first got into Trek, and now, I find DS9 a superior show to both the other main 90's series.

Hm...I'll probably have to just refer to the ones on the list I liked.

The first episode, that was the one with the trial of humanity by Q, right?
It was weird. Funny. Interesting. It also showed a bit of a pest/villain, and how the "new crew" would react to a threat of this kind. It was a good intro to the characters and I think a very strong first episode...it kind of embodied what star trek and its characters were *still* about, for all it's changes.

Datalore and Brothers are a nice kind of double feature split up through the series. Sibling rivalry done different. Showcased Spiners range too.
Lore, for as little as he was in it, was one of my favourite characters...because not only is he not difficult to understand...he's just...funny. Angry. Made a good "bad guy" but was really just lashing out, in a completely psycho android way.

"Family" was a very good episode that went into Picards past, and connection to his brother...some of his motivations, and the hugely different paths they took. Don't know if you remember but it came not so long after the "Locutus of Borg" stuff...and while those would have surely been shocking events...this episode showed the repercussions of his actions while under the influence of the collective, and his mud fight and breaking down crying with his brother to this day is just...really well done...Stewart whipping his acting balls right out.

The 2-part finale, is in my mind one of the best series finale episodes, ever.
Clever episode.

Not sure what you mean. The Inner Light was just one episode S5E25. As you said, the season finale was two parts: "All Good Things Part 1 & 2". I'll have to watch that again. Netflix puts those together as one ep. I didn't watch it live on TV, not sure if that was one night.

Datalore is one of my favorite eps. Good pick. Actually, I really like most all the Data emphasized eps, like The Offspring (where he creates an android child), In Theory (Data's love affair try), Elementary, Dear Data (Moriarty program becomes alive), and Brothers was cool.

An of course, one the best TNG eps ever was The Measure of a Man, where there's a debate court case to decide if Data is really sentient or equipment.

I think these are the best eps:

The Measure of a Man S2E9
Clues S4E14
Datalore S1E9
Chain of Command Part 2 S6E11 (Cardassian tries to 'Nighteen Eighty Four' brainwash Picard)
Q Who S2E16 (first Borg ep)
11001001 S1E15 (aliens hijack Enterprise, & create life-like female hologram to distract Riker)
Conspiracy S1E25 (Aliens infiltrate Star Fleets top command)
The Best of Both Worlds Part 1 & 2 S2E26-S3E1

Agreed. The one where Picard gets tortured (Chain of Command Part 1 & 2) could have been done in one ep. Notice I only listed Part 2 in my Best List. The first part is pretty useless. They could have just did a 30 second setup as to why Picard is captured.

The Inner Light takes some patience. Anyone who was looking for an exciting ep was very disappointed. ::big grin:: It's an adult ep for sure. But if you're in a family or novella mood it's rewarding.

Marianne Season 1 (and hopefully the one and only) 8/10

If this was one long ass horror movie it would be my favorite of the year.

I was quite surprised to discover that neither writers or director had ever made a horror movie before, because when it comes to atmosphere and creepy scenes they totally nailed it. Lots of creativity and even tho parts seemed to be inspired from other horror movies, most if the scenes felt fresh and effective. Nice long creepy scares.
The directing was really amazing throughout. Editing, cinematography, sfx, music was worthy of a big budget horror movie. Only fault in my book was the story, that started out very strong, but became weaker after episode 3 and sadly the last two episodes were the worst, with all the creepiness from the former episodes gone and an ending that I don’t really need to see a follow-up to.

But I highly recommend horror fans to give it a watch.

Scenery and fx reminded me of The Force Awakens, which is definitely the best sequel to the first three movies, imo.

Lacked in story, which was not even 40 minutes long. But what really bothered me was the plain American accents of lots of the characters, including the “aliens” such as fish face.

Sure, I’m gonna watch the next episode but I’m not a fan yet.

The Movies that Made Us: part 1 Dirty Dancing

Pretty good. I was afraid this was going to be one of those 'forcing a cultural agenda down your throat' piece, but it wasn't. It was really mostly 'the making of Dirty Dancing' and a factual note of it's success, but very little about it's impact on culture... which is really good news. Of course the title, 'movies that made us' is odd considering, but I'm glad it's not self aggrandizing cultural punch.

I had considered checking out Rookie. I always wondered what it would be like becoming a cop, and entering a field while older is interesting to. But sounds like you weren't to thrilled with it? If it had some accurate detail to it, it could be pretty good. But if it's mainly fluff from writers without a clue about the reality, I doubt I'd like it. Rec on where to see it?

Dirty Dancing certainly didn't make me. ::big grin:: I think I saw a rental of it. Saw it again recently. Not as good as I remembered, but it's ok.

The Movies that Made Us: Ghostbusters

Another 'the making of', this time Ghostbusters. Well done and interesting. Again plenty of interesting behind the scene's info, origins of the script that Dan Aykroyd wrote (which he regards as the family business -- he and his parents were very into parapsychology research, and I knew it when I saw the film), and then re-wrote with Harold Ramis.

I'll certainly check out the other two films in the series. Always like 'making of the film' docs.

I’m guessing you’re talking about The Witcher since Mandalorian is only half an hour long.

Yea, except for the beginning the first episode wasn’t the best and I’m sure it helps a lot to be a big fan of the books/games. But it still bothers me that the Witcher, especially in the first episodes, only seem like a side character in the bigger story. Just walking around in the forrest doing small errands for the nearby villages. ::roll eyes::

Overall the best part of both shows are the visuals, with Mandalorian being the most impressive but with the weakest story and too many fillers.

Yep, I'm talking about the Witcher. I see it was 1h1m long. And I'm not familiar with the books/games.

Just as a comparison, Game of Thrones first ep grabbed my attention right away and didn't seem contrived to me. I was unfamiliar with GOT. Maybe tough comparison, but same concept. I just don't think Witcher rooted itself well enough.

The opening scene of the fight with monster... dropping the sword, can't reach it, then reaches it... very, very contrived, and much too much time to do it. Still, the ending fight with the woman and her band is much more interesting and dynamic. Just not well rooted story in 1st ep. I'll probably watch the 2nd ep with the recommendations, but if as rough, I don't know. ::big grin::

I remember when Nancy Grace was on, she would joke about the type of babies that were born on drugs. She would name them: Vodka baby, Marijuana baby, etc. But there is a case now on Court TV with a Meth baby. The parents put the baby at the bottom of a well. In a milk crate wrapped in chains. It sounds like something out of a horror movie.

I just think the story was really bad. Especially episode 3, which was just ridiculous and a complete turn off.

1. episode was by far the best.
Appreciated the Hammer style, the effects and the acting was fine.
I'm really enjoying the Dracula 3-part series. I love the creative pseudo realistic and logical story/approach. It's something I would have wrote, more or less. Just started the 3rd part (1hr 30 each).

Dracula (2019) The Third Part is not nearly as good as the first two parts, but it's not unenjoyable... and most importantly the final concluding scene is satisfying, because it not only fits the entire series, it was unpredictable, interesting and meaningful.

The problems with the third part are it doesn't dive into what the Harker Foundation is, nor what the head of it is doing, or tried to do. Which is really a shame, because there was a ton of time to do some cool things with it. Secondly, the story of the young man and his would-be-girlfriend is very weak, and was basically as nebulous as the Harker Foundation.

Yeah, they dropped the ball on the third part. Without giving anything important away, it was very cool they have Drac at the Foundation, and I was like, 'this is gonna be good', and then they don't anything with it, and instead they go with the story of the young male doc and racy GF, which felt like yet anther really bad modern vamp movie. But I thought the first two parts were snappy and creative.

"Six weeks after the death of their 13-week-old son, Philadelphia couple Dorothy and Sean Turner hire a young nanny, Leanne, to move in and take care of Baby Jericho, a reborn doll. The doll, which Dorothy believes is her real child, was the only thing that brought her out of her catatonic state following Jericho's death. While Sean deals with the grief on his own, he becomes deeply suspicious of Leanne."

Same. I really, really enjoyed it.

I think what I liked most of all is that it was a return to the prime timeline...that is something I've wanted since the movie Nemesis (which I found a bit lacking).
I thought the "new' Star Trek movies, actually made this less likely to ever happen, I remember thinking "Oh...so...they've erased the existing universe?"
Which sucked.

This Picard show though...It's like a show set in the Star Trek universe...but it doesn't feel Star Trek, at all.

I also quite enjoyed that they did keep the prime universe "side of the story" intact...and absolutely I can see why NERO would have been pissed off...

SPOILERS

...that interview was loaded...and just went in an unexpected way.

Out of all people to ever basically say "fuck the Federation", I never thought it would be him...evidently he'd stayed buttoned down about it for some time.
He wanted to help, and did help...the Federation withdrew on political grounds.
Weak.

It's put the character in a very unusual place, because Romulans hold him in pretty high regard, and the existing Federation wouldn't like him quite so much, because people do look to him as something of a legend/symbol.

The reveal about who Dhaj (er, and who the other one WILL be) was interesting...and kind of great, with what it means in a roundabout way.

I'd love to know how the remaining Romulans got on board a borg cube for their "reclamation zone", hopefully that's at least in part a story we'll get to see.

Interesting show...and honestly I was loving it from less than a minute in...
They have, at least thus far...done the character and the universe right.

Thought overall the entire series was fantastic...such intricate details for every department. Had heard a lot of fans were let down by the final episode, but Mrs FD and I thought it was a good way to wrap everything up. Mrs Fd thought that it might have been better to continue the camera moving from character to the next and have them growing older, maybe with families, King's Landing rebuilt and thriving and the final scene would be a grey haired Tyrion lying in state after his death. Maybe people were hoping for a slam bang ending, like Cersei and Dany going Mano a Mano.

About 2/3 into the latest ST: Picard...was too damn tired...kids first week at school, routine changes out the ass...I'll finish off today.

Right now we've been catching up on (and by catching up on, I mean...we only loosely ever watched season 1) "Greys Anatomy". Not a bad show. I mean I don't think anything is going to ever have struck the balance ER and Chicago Hope did, in my mind, but it's watchable.
You can clearly see the American version of "The Good Doctor" kind of borrowed a few of the dynamics from it.

Saw an episode of something called "Broad City", thought it was kind of weird and irreverent enough to grab a season so I'll be checking that out soon. I usually find chick driven comedies a bit shithouse, but I didn't hate it so far.

The Good Doctor, missed 4 episodes since it came back on so we'll watch through the rest of these at some stage.

The Arrowverse Crossover: Not bad.
Though these shows (except for Legends...which has like, turned into an entertaining cartoon of sorts) have really lost steam at this point...don't know if I'll even get through what's left of Arrow. I'll probably at least TRY with the flash.
Batgirl seems pretty meh.

GOTs is top rate stuff. I just thought they started the ending wrap-up of the all the stories too late in the game. That is to say, I think they covered too much ground in the last eps. It would have been more enjoyable if they had skipped on some side stories early on and embellished on the invasion of the dead, the raven-eye kid's powers, Dani's final campaign, etc.

Glad there's not much comic ground left to cover...I don't know about everyone else but the shows really, for me, been losing steam ever since the Negan/Rick leaving thing. I kind of feel like for the sake of the show, they ought to give it a completely original ending/last season.

They also damn near jacked the 28 days later musical score in this one...

Court TV - Harvey Weinstein Trial or The Monster (according to some) Goes to Jail

I think everyone knew Harvey wasn't going to walk. They were going to convict him on something. But for me I'm also curious about the percentage of women that went along with Harvey's method. He wasn't doing the whole massage thing in the hotel because it wasn't successful. And I heard his female lawyer say these hotel "business" meetings weren't happening during normal 9 to 5 work hours.

I posted this on Horrordvds when people were talking about the Bryant situation but this is what rape was to me growing up.

h1dpG9r7NDE

However apparently now, rape is just saying no at any point in any situation. So an afternoon meeting at a bar with drinks and deciding to go up to a hotel room to continue the "meeting" can turn into rape.

i just started watching Schitts Creek last night on Nexflix.
SCTV veterans Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy reunite for the umpteenth time for a comedy about a very rich family that loses their fortune and are forced to live in 2 rooms of a motel in a tiny run down rural town. It's kind of the Beverly Hillbillies in reverse.

I never wanted to see it just because of the name alone ..
it just sounded too cheap and easy ..

Glad i finally gave it a shot because it's pretty damn funny
Episodes are only around 21 min each - i watched 10 in a row last night :D

I have to say, when I saw it was a TV comedy with Eugene Levy who back in the pre-American Pie days I found pretty funny...I largely avoided it based on the more recent Levy stuff (not that I hated Jim's dad...just..they started making him the same character in everything) and yes, also the name of the show.

However, I've since seen bits of one or two episodes on late night TV and it's become something that's on my list of things I might eventually watch.

Same thing happened with "The Mighty Boosh" and "Broad City"...a combination of hearing they were a bit irreverent and stupid, and just...you ever have shows talked up WAY too much by people?
Those were two of them...and I guess they might have been from people I wouldn't expect to have a half decent taste? Who knows.

Watching them both, yes, they are irreverent and stupid...and I don't love either name, they don't "sound" like shows I would watch...It's funny how a human being does that...however, they're both watchable in at least as much as a "when I'm sitting around doing nothing and/or being stoned, I can easily watch these shows.

Last night, watched some cooking with cannabis type show hosted by some dude and Kelis. It was...what it was...the recipes did look pretty delicious, if not a little too reliant on commercial THC extracts...the whole thing felt like a bit of an advertisement because of the branded products though.
Couldn't help but feel like they shamelessly ripped off another show from a couple of years ago...nearly the exact same format.

Started on RED DWARF again...
Well, not from the beginning - from the "Back to Earth" mini series, which was quite clever.
I'd seen all the old stuff, back to earth, and maybe 1/2 of the first "new" season after that...kind of quit on it, as I didn't like the new stuff quite as much...and I still don't...but with the recently released "The Promised Land" mini/movie, I figured I'd catch up.
Still watchable, and it's nice to see the old cast together if nothing else.
Enjoying it at a moderate level.

Dispatches from Elsewhere -

I believe a few people here wanted to watch this show. All the episodes are on demand now so I just watched the first one. It's pretty good. According to wiki this is based off an actual game and documentary film called The Institute. I might check that out after this show.

There is a cool animated bit in the show that is pretty clever. Also a building with a beautiful water fountain which I'm trying to find.

The story so far is basically a bored guy who lives by going to work and coming home gets involved in a reality type game. Or actually a few characters have different ideas on what it really is. We'll have to watch the whole series for a definite answer. I hope this doesn't end on a cliffhanger.

Also, there is an actress in the show that had my mind asking all kinds of questions. I wanted the bored guy to ask the lady where she is from or something a bit possibly insulting because her voice was kind of strange. But I checked wiki and this is a bit of a spoiler so I'll space it out a bit.

WARNING!!!

WARNING!!!!!!!!!!

Ok. The actress is like the Matrix brothers. Now called the Matrix siblings. She's a trans actress. Which is fine. I think I've only glimpsed one before in an HBO or Showtime show. Also, I read a story once about a show by the Matrix siblings that I want to see. But it was about how trans actresses were only getting trans roles. And sometimes not even those. Yet that actress looked like any other woman.

Perhaps Trump is right, I heard him say once that trans people take a lot of drugs. I don't know how he would know that. But what ever the condition of the actress, I can see why that bathroom debate is important. As no way should she enter a man's bathroom. I've had small incidents in bathrooms. I would hate to see what odd guys would attempt with a trans actress in a male bathroom.

But anyway, she has a cool, fun, and adventurous type character in Dispatches from Elsewhere. Probably so good that people shouldn't be worried about not casting similar actresses.

i started Ozark... got through season one.

I'm hanging on by my fingertips because i really like Bateman in this but it's pretty obviously a combination of Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, and Schitts Creek.

A little relentless in it's pacing .. one thing never resolved before something else pops up .. it's starting to get tiring despite the interesting characters and great performances.

Also that harsh dark blue light everything is shot in makes it exceptionally joyless.

Dexter was the one show that handled that well .. juggling issues, one thing after another .. but it was more of a fantasy so it worked better for me .. and there would be periods of rest - and more humor. More contrast.

I'll start the new season and see how it goes.

I watched all episodes in two days. It has some flaws, but I kept watching it and I wasn't bored. If you like dark, Scandinavian crime stories, then it will work for you, I guess. ::wink::

i'm loving everything Scandinavian these days
one of my favourite films in years was In Order Of Disappearance (remade in america as Cold Pursuit .. which was also excellent - same director)

I haven't seen that one, looks good and there's Stellan Skarsgård in it. ::cool::
I started watching another Icelandic crime TV series called Trapped (Ófærð) on Netflix.

I'm alone at work today. I'm on episode 3 so far. Really liking it! I'm a sucker for a good murder mystery!

Good to know. I liked it as well, now I'm watching Trapped (I have five episodes of season one left) - worth checking out if you enjoyed The Valhalla Murders.

Excellent. I'll add it to the queue.

EDIT: added it to the Amazon Prime queue. Maila, have you seen "Fortitude"? Another excellent murder mystery on Prime. It has 2 seasons. My own personal opinion is the first season is better than the second. But, second season is still enjoyable.

Killing Eve Season 1 7/10

The creators should have followed their own title and stuck with just 1 season. I would say the story has enough meat for a 2 hour movie and that’s about it. Felt this show jumped the shark already at episode 4 of its first season. Not good.

But the actress playing the psycho killer is wonderfully amazing and season 1 is worth watching for her alone. Watched the first 2 episodes of season 2 and I think I’m gonna leave it at that.

finished Ozark.

I guess thats it for now - nothing new coming for the foreseeable future.

I miss it a bit because as before,, I find the continuous downslide of events to be relentless, but I really like the characters... so I'm a bit conflicted.

I admire Jason Bateman's performance more and more - it's incredibly nuanced...and consistent. nothing you would notice until you watch everything.
