In the official synopsis for Saw VI, "Special Agent Strahm is dead, and Detective Hoffman has emerged as the unchallenged successor to Jigsaw's legacy. However, when the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood"

...And you know what? It actually is! Check back soon for Horror.com's review of Saw VI [review now posted], plus video interviews from the red carpet last night at Hollywood's Chinese 6 theatre. In the meantime, look at some of the photos I snapped between chats about traps.

Here is actor Tobin Bell discussing how John / Jigsaw reveals his true agenda for this Saw franchise entry. He told me that as much as he loves doing it, he does not believe Jigsaw is a "career defining" role. He's in talks right now for a Law & Order arc, plus he completed a film about ageing rockers on a road tour entitled Highway 61.

Betsy Russell plays a large role in Saw VI. Her film, now shooting, is called Unearthed.

Screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are already putting the finishing touches on Saw VII, which will be in 3D format. They talked about how much camera direction is used in the script, and how they devised traps which would be especially effective in three dimensional gore.

Actor Bill Moseley, who's worked with former Saw director Darren Bousman (in Repo! The Genetic Opera), was on hand to support friends at Lionsgate and to just basically enjoy the viscera.

Director Anthony DiBlasi was on the line as well, talking about his upcoming film, Dread (I saw it awhile ago, and I loved it; it's based on a Clive Barker short story), which will see an 8-Films-To-Die-For theatrical run in January 2010.

Saw VI director Kevin Greutert, a first-timer, said that stepping into this role was relatively painless, because he edited all but one of the previous films. He knew most of the actors, and was familiar with what's wanted and expected from Saw fans.

Actor Costas Mandylor returns as Hoffman, in a much more layered and nuanced manner than before. He said he loves playing the character and he'd gladly return.

Scream Queens contest winner Tanedra Howard told us that it's been difficult to sit back and return to normal life, not being able to talk about the juicy victim role she gets to play at the beginning of Saw VI... but that she would not trade the experience for the world. She loved acting in the film and hopes to continue in her career in front of the camera.

In one of the many flashbacks in the film (not reconstituted scenes, but actual revisiting of previous events from different persectives), James Van Patten reprises his role as the coroner who finds the cassette tape inside Jigsaw's cadaver.
