Im a firm believer in just nuking hangovers with a shitload of painkillers. Dont piss about with the odd para here or there, throw down a few at a time and it keeps the suffering down to a minimum.

paracetemol for the pain
ibuprofen for the cause of the pain

I'm in Dublin for a couple of days, I did 9 pints of Guiness last night, then the funds ran out. But I'm cashed up again and will get a few more in before my flight.

Yeah, got a couple more in tonight before the flight. I'm feeling pretty bloated, everything I ate in the last two days was some type of sandwich or roll or pizza, so much bread.... That combined with the guinness.

The Guinness tasted so good though I would have had a few more if I had the time.

Had a nice little beer tasting with some friends this evening.

First off, we tried Brooklyn Local 2, a great Belgian-style strong dark ale. Lots of plumb and honey notes coming through, and very smooth.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/3568100237_c0a03f7b7b.jpg

After that we tried the Guinness 250th Anniversary Stout.

And were thoroughly disappointed. It kind of tasted like somebody spilled water in regular Guinness.

Oh well.

I tried that recently as well. It kind of grows on you after awhile, but still, I was expecting to be at least a little impressed. To me it tasted like they just mixed regular Guinness with the Extra Stout version.

Unibroue's Trois Pistoles- an excellent dark Belgian ale

Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout- for a stout, it's fairly light. Overall, very nice.

Went to a beer tasting in the city today; we sampled a few brews from Rogue out of Oregon:

Mom Hefeweizen
Chipotle Ale
Dead Guy Ale
Double Dead Guy Ale
Imperial India Pale Ale

All of them were great, except the Chipotle Ale.

I picked up their Rogue Chocolate Stout, an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, and a Sinebrychoff Porter.

With the La Fin Du Monde, do you notice a taste difference in the shape of the glass you are drinking it from? I usually drink it in a rounded goblet like glass. Since we are moving and still unpacking, I had in a regular pint glass the other night. Now, i hadn't had it in awhile, but it just didn't taste the same and wasn't as good as I remember.

Yeah, this is true with the Belgian strong ales for sure. The rounded big-bodied glass (like a snifter or oversized wine glass) allows the aroma of the brew to stay rolling around inside the glass. This way, when you take a drink, the aroma is nice and rich, adding to the taste of the beer. With a pint glass, the aroma is able to escape quickly from the wide mouth, killing some of the taste. With most other beer styles, the pint glass will work fine, but the Belgians are so heavy that the glassware really does matter.

http://www.beveragewarehouse.com/images/products/2946.gif

And a bunch of Raspberry Sour Puss, plus some other kind of flavoured rum (not sure what it was exactly).

I learned a very valuable lesson that night: even though they might not pack much of a kick and you hardly even know you're drinking...if you down as much as I did, you still get fucking plastered. I'm talking like, passed out on the lawn, parents dragging you inside, can hardly function the next day kind of drunk. Was NOT a good time.

So, one of you wanna enlighten me on what 'clamato' juice is? (I'm English, humor me).

Clamato (a portmanteau of "clam" and "tomato") is a trademark of the Mott's company which denotes a drink made primarily of water, reconstituted tomato juice concentrate, and high-fructose corn syrup. It is flavored with monosodium glutamate, spices, and a small amount of clam broth. It is also referred to colloquially as "clamato juice." Clamato was produced in its current form beginning in 1966 by the Duffy-Mott company in Hamlin, New York, by two employees who wanted to create a Manhattan clam chowder style cocktail by combining tomato juice and clam broth with spices. They also named the new cocktail Mott's Clamato and secured the trademark for the new brand. According to Mott's, the Clamato Caesar is one of the top selling cocktails across Canada. The brand was owned by Cadbury-Schweppes after the company bought Mott's in 1982. It is now owned by the Dr Pepper Snapple Group after the business was spun-off of Cadbury-Schweppes in 2008.

I had a couple of bottles of Guinness foreign export last night, which is 7.5%! I'm a regular drinker of draught Guinness, but I couldn't drink more than a 2 or 3 bottles of this stuff,it's got a helluva a kick and you could practically stand a spoon up in it!

Well, actually I have a suggestion for that, take those two bottles, and dump them into a caserole dish, and add in some frozen orange juice concentrate, and maybe some pureed strawberries, mix it well, then freeze it. after its frozen take it out and start shaving it down with a fork, until all of it looks like shaved ice, put that in an icecream cup, maybe with a little more of the pureed strawberries, and enjoy.

I used to drink cheap cherry once apon a time, sweet cherry on ice, 4 bucks a bottle, nasty shit, I was fucked on it the first night I ever played a live gig....

That shit will rot you away.

I have been getting into this of late as my new local beer of choice.

But I just ran out of them, so I opened a bottle of sav blanc that has been sitting in the fridge for a week or two, belongs to one of my flatmates, it's last years from south eastern Australia, smells like it cost no more than six bucks..... let's taste it....

Ever heard of a Lynchburg Lemonade. Sound like something youd enjoy if you like whiskey and lemonade.
Equal parts Jack and Triple sec, 1/2 sour mix & 1/2 sprite.
Quite tasty when made correctly.

It wasn't regular lemonade but a type of traditional, cloudy lemo and it was frickin' gorgeous!
I will make some additions to my Monday shopping list and give it a try.

I'll add my two cents to this ol' thread!

Favorite beer is Lone Star, followed by Pearl, then PBR and Schlitz.
Favorite hard stuff is El Jimidor Tequila! Bring on the Jimi!
Favorite mixed drink is a "Texas Tea"... which is a Long Island with tequila dumped over the top to give it an extra kick. Had two of those lastnight at Chuy's. Damn good.

Since pics are fun... :D

If I'm drinking to savor the flavor, I'll go with a Sam Adams seasonal, or maybe Sierra Nevada or Flying Dog.

Drinking to get a buzz...Budweiser has always been my friend. Doesn't give me a hangover, and I like the taste. Maybe because it's the first beer I partied on as a teen.

Some hate it, I love it. Gets the job done as well.
