In 1990, Spin Magazine put together this surprisingly impressive list of the 35 greatest moments of rock 'n' roll television, back when these things happened. There are links to most of them on YouTube.

one I remember vividly was Nirvana on one of the MTV awards when they smashed everything and Kurt was chanting "Where's Axl?, Hi Axl..."

Still there's a couple of classics on that list. The Seeds and 13th Floor Elevators clips are EPIC.
