How many Humanistic, Political, Social Messages have you found in Horror?

Where did you find them? One of the reasons that I love Horror is because, of what Authors, Writers, Directors, and Actors have taught me. Stephen King and Wes Craven, both taught me Humanism, to do something against discrimination, to me they taught me about empathy, they taught me that I am not alone, and that there are people out there that have lived through what I've lived through or the pain that I've felt. Horror Inspires me. I think this is why Stephen King's IT, is my favorite Horror film. I am still reading It, and it's weird to find words that can make you laugh, cry, and make you feel something

Hmmm. It doesn't really 'teach' me anything, but Melanie Tem's Wilding was a good experience of generations of women in a family. Horror to show the battles and love and all that. Also her collection Revenant is a great commentary on grief.

Kathe Koja's endings...well to say would ruin them, but there's a consistent theme most authors do not use which is also a sort of commentary.

Stephen King's Salem's Lot was the first 'big' book I read. I think I was...12?

Most learning I gain from books is from 'literature'(whatever the fuck that is...) and biography/essays about real world stuff and things like that. Horror holds a lot of things for me, but not often about learning about something.

The only 'subliminal' type messages I can say I've noticed are the "dead meat" cliches in slasher flicks. For example, you will die if you: do drugs, have premarital sex, are an asshole, are fat, are black... wait that went off topic... omg slasher movies are racist...

All slashers are conservative/republican. Virginal clean-behavior people live, those using drugs & having premarital sex die. Really Jason is just like Rick Santorum cut loose. Think about it.
