I mean faerie possession and curses, like demonic possession. You'd be surprised how recently this folklore was believed in. Mostly in the remote parts of the country.

I have a 'faerie tree' in my back yard and I know I wouldn't cut it down. Why invite bad luck?
Aren't banshees Irish too?

Yeah but when OP specified monsters I kinda thought faeries. Probably because banshees are more apparitions. I dunno, it's a good point. The case I linked was really demonic possession so I'm contradicting myself a little.

I've always preferred the faerie folklore because of it's 'hidden history'. Everybody knows about banshees, giants, hounds etc. associated with Ireland but the faerie legends have morphed into something cartoon-like and unthreatening. Their origins are much more sinister. Read the link I posted, it's quite distressing.

Also, a little known fact is that the ill-fated Delorean (I think that's how it's spelt) factory was built on the site of an ancient faerie tree. We all know how the Delorean story ends!

I guess the faerie tree is the equivalent of the ancient Indian burial ground of American culture.

Have you ever seen The Daisy Chain? Very good fairy movie, pretty creepy if you ask me.

Even with the horrible way it was portrayed in the new Clash of The Titans?

It looked like a giant CGI frog.
