Monster of Monsters

Speaking from the actual legends of all the monsters of the world. Titanic sized monsters excluded. Movie and creative rewriting of monsters excluded, too. So no pretty, sparkly vampires, lovecraft, hollywood slashers, daikaiju, etc. And trust me hollywood and authors made up alot about today's monsters that we think are part of the original lore. Yup vampires weren't pretty or didn't burst into flames while in the sun, werewolves could change whenever, and lesser known monsters were probably more terrifying than anything Hollywood could pitch out today....So what is the most Bad arse Folklore monster of all time? I'm new ere by the way, so...

You've excluded so much, im not really sure what you mean. Care to give an example? Maybe say your opinion on the matter to get the ball rolling.

Like Mountain Trolls, Djinn, Ogres, Jersey Devil, Loup Garou, Popobawa, Old European Vampires, Oni, Thunderbird, Nucklevee, Minotaur, Cerebus, etc. Basically real legends of monsters. Many monsters of today have been changed due to many authors and movies. Alot of what people think are part of the original lore of monsters was made up completely...

Well okay, i still dont think you should be excluding so much. Just because the legends have been perverted by cinema doesnt mean there arent true pure legends and mythology about them. Anyway i've always been interested in Trolls, Loch Ness, Bigfoot, pretty much everything from greek mythology, Jersey Devil, Chupacabra and one of my absolute favorites Quetzalcoatl.

Hope thats kind of the answer you were looking for.

Mongolian Death Worm.

Doesn't really exclude so much as one would think...Its basically asking whose the most powerful of the real legendary monsters? Djinn and Quetzacoatl, Medusa, etc. Basically no movie or novel versions of monsters.

No pretty boy supervampires, or Cthulhu, Godzilla. They fictional versions of real legends. or downright fabricated completely.

Who is the most powerful legendary monster?...and why...

The Villain 05-29-2011 07:44 PM

Okay i get you now. I think i just got confused when you started talking about Vampires.

neverending 05-29-2011 07:47 PM

Beware the Kraken!

mokole 05-29-2011 07:51 PM

Or the most terrifying ones?

Mongolian Death Worms. the worse part is that they might possibly be real...

Most Powerful-Quetzacoatl or a Shaitan
Most Terrifying-Popobawa...do you know why?

Being Irish, I'm going to say Faeries (not the same sex relationship type!). You have to take the OP's suggestion and disregard any preconceptions you've built up through books and movies.

I mean faerie possession and curses, like demonic possession. You'd be surprised how recently this folklore was believed in. Mostly in the remote parts of the country.

I have a 'faerie tree' in my back yard and I know I wouldn't cut it down. Why invite bad luck?
