Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X were New Line. But for some reason there was still a rights issue from what I understand and thats why it took so long for FVJ to come out. See Jason X was supposed to be FVJ but since it was a question as to when FVJ would come out they decided to make another Jason movie and set it a few years before the events of FVJ. By a few years I mean the openning scene when he;s been captured by the military before he's frozen.

I think that would make more sense, and maybe to more of a Jason storyline since the first one was more of a Freddy storyline.

And then maybe the ending could fill in the gap between FVJ and Jason X.

Don't worry, there won't be any ASH in any of the proposed monster crossover flicks.

Yes, they toyed with the idea briefly, but the internet/fanboy reaction was so strong that Raimi realized he could easily spin ASH and EVIL DEAD into another contemporary revival franchise. It's likely we'll see a sequal and/or contemporary remake in the near future.

I don't think however Ash will be in them, you should not only look at jason and freddy, but look at Sam Raimis perspective on that prospect.

I don't think so, though can't be sure: I know that New Line are the owners of Freddy. (and now the owners of Jason)

I think at the time it was new line who wanted the Jason franchise but obviously couldn't at the time, hence the reason that Jason X came out, this was supposedly to fill in time while the negotiations took place, between the respective owners.

This is why Jason X does not fit into any particular time line with the other films.

its just....doesnt fit....plus hes mortal too
I've said this before...but I'll throw in again.
I personally think that despite Ash being a mere mortal, he'd be ok for a potential 3-way battle. Why? think about it a second...think of the peeps that have survived Freddy and/or Jason...usually mid to late teens, still half buzzin' and/or crazy with fear and frantic...yet due to luck or moments of resourcefullness these little teenys have managed to survive ok.
Now think about Ash...sure, in the first one, he freaks out a helluvalot, but by the end of the third film, hes either become pissed off or crazy enough to basically be a pretty bad motherfucker...He's resourceful, usually armed, got himself a demon headcount of, well, plenty...and a heluva mad-on for all things undead. He might not be all that much of a contender compared to freddy or Jason, but I think that all things considered, far lesser folk have come out unscathed.
AGES ago (god...years now), I wrote a lil' something about my ideas for this potential sequel, feel free to take a gander, I was cheebacheeba back in the day)

Jason Goes to Hell was the first Friday movie put out by New Line, if you recall Freddy's hand pops out of the ground and pulls Jason's mask down.

Jason X takes place after FVJ, the producers at the time wanted to make another Friday but they knew that FVJ was in the works so in order to not interfer with FVJ they set Jason X in the not so distant future and I'm not talking about after he's frozen, I'm talking about at the very beginning when he first gets captured to be studied.
Actually there was an idea floating around that there would a Friday movie that would fill in the time gap between FVJ and Jason X or there would be another Friday movie set on Earth 2. Another idea that the Fans have wanted for a long time is Jason in the snow at Crystal Lake.
