Found out just now about it being pushed back. Probably for the best to make it much better if the movie is really as bad as some of the test screenings made it out to be.
I heard the test screenings were very positive...

I heard some very pretty negative. Guess those who disliked it are in the minority. Hopefully these reshoots will make it considerably better.

I'll be seeing the 1972 Tales From The Crypt movie and The Vault Of Horror soon after getting Scream Factory's double feature with both. Been ages since I watched them, I remember watching the old TFTC movie a lot as a kid and always liking it. Should be interesting to see which segment I enjoy from each the most.
As a kid I always found the movie much more bearable than the show, the Crypt Keeper of the show scared me too much as a kid.

And having finally seen both for the first time in years, my favorite segment in each respective film is Poetic Justice and Drawn And Quartered.

Friday The 13th - Part 2
Halloween - Part 2 - but I think 3 stands alone great on it's own.
A Nightmare On Elm Street - 1st
Saw - 1
Scream 1
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The Beginning
Alien- original
Predator - original
Phantasm -2
Evil Dead - original
Hellraiser - original
Child's Play - never cared for
Final Destination -3

I also like TCM: The Beginning. I'm something of a Horror heretic in that when it comes to the TCM films the remake and it's prequel are my favorites of the series.

The third Purge comes out in a couple of months. Should be interesting to see how it fares, I didn't much care for the first Purge but the sequel was vastly superior. The third so far looks promising and whether it'll be the best, who knows.

Blair Witch will be eligible for this come September when the surprise third movie comes out. I've only seen the original which I find okay though definitely overrated. I like the actual Blair Witch story and background but the movie isn't really my cup of tea. Never saw the second one.

Blair Witch 2 is a very messy movie but I think it's worth watching for the whole ESREVER idea. If you play certain scenes backwards in REVERSE, little hidden images appear on screen. It was kind of a novelty for the dvd era but I thought it was actually quite creepy in a way.
The movie forwards is a bit of a mess due to studio interference but there are some very good ideas at play there!

I didn't even recall there was a sequel to Trilogy of Terror. There's the only one segment/short to see, the 3rd story... scared the hell out of the women in 1975, giving them nightmares for weeks, the great Amelia

Could Jurassic Park be considered partially Horror? If it counts and can be added to this, the original is hands down the best by a landslide. I have always sort of considered the series a bit of a hybrid of Natural Horror and Techno-Thriller. I'd wager the last two films definitely play up on the Horror aspect much more whereas the original two movies have a more majestic quality to them though they don't skimp on the intensity when it comes to the dinosaur attacks.

*Just updating my list, don't mind me.*
Halloween
- ...Can I just tie 1 through 5 (excluding 3 of course). I also really really enjoy Resurrection.
Friday the 13th
- I through III (can't really pick just one of these). Really enjoyed Jason Takes Manhattan too.
Hellraiser
- First one, easy! ...or is it. I really like 2 and 3 too... And Hellworld.
Child's Play
- Bride of Chucky. My sister's more into the Chucky films and the reason I watched any of them. 'Bride of Chucky' I enjoyed most cause of Tiffany.
Howling
- First and Original Nightmare. Cause I + IV = book
Tremors
- First. Second wasn't too bad. Third I can't even take seriously but it was better than four and HELLA better than five.
Scream
- First. Although I enjoyed all of them, as Sidney herself said in the 4th movie, "Don't fuck with the original." And I just LOVED the cast in the first.
Jaws
- First one, although I would put the second right after it if not tied with it. I prefer to pretend the rest of the sequels don't exist.
Alien
- Aliens (I confess I haven't seen 3 or the rest of the sequels... if I have I don't remember them, I think I saw AVP once but idk... but Aliens was so hella good I can't imagine any of the sequels being better.)
Psycho
- It's been a while since I've watched the sequels, but I do remember none of them wowed me like the first. So I'm going with the original on this one.
Puppet Master
- Another I haven't seen all of and that my memory of the sequels of are a touch fuzzy... but probably Toulon's Revenge because, again, it left the best impact.
Joy Ride
- First one. Rusty Nail is an under rated slasher that they only insulted with the sequels. ...Or at least the third one.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
- I enjoyed the first two about equally well... but for originality I'm probably going to have to go with the first. I haven't seen the third but it doesn't have any of the original cast so...
Hannibal Lecter series
- I loved the book Red Dragon, but have yet to actually see any of the movies for it or the prequel, Hannibal Rising (read the book for that one too, did not enjoy as much as Red Dragon but it was still a good read). SotL was enjoyable. Anthony Hopkins as Hanni could not have been more perfect. And the sequel Hannibal I did not hate it as much as most seem too. I actually enjoyed it a lot if not more than SotL.
Children of the Corn
- Saw the first one I believe... I hated it so I have no intention of watching the sequels.
Classic Movie Monsters
- Wolfman (first one and remake)
- Frankenstein (Meets Wolfman)
- Dracula (first one)
- Invisible Man (first one, but Invisible Woman was just as excellent on a more lighthearted scale)
- Cross overs (Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein)
*wasn't big on Mummy and don't remember Creature from Black Lagoon Sequels well enough to judge*
Waldemar Daninsky series
- This one is tough. Werewolf vs. the Vampire Women is probably his most well known, but I honestly don't find it as memorable as some of his others, although I do enjoy the movie. Frankenstein's Bloody Terror and The Werewolf and the Yeti are my favorites. The Fury of the Wolfman is probably close third with Vampire Women. These movies are hard to find, but I've seen most to put my thoughts on my favorites down.
Evil Dead
- First one. The sequels were fine too, but the first can stand alone as a horror without as much silliness, the ending is less of a cliff hanger than the second (and kinda the third although mostly I just wasn't satisfied with the ending of that one either... DAMMIT, ASH YOU HAVE A FUCKING CHAINSAW FOR A HAND, USE IT!!), and there was just less that had me scratching my head. In the beginning of the second AND third they changed the endings of the movies before them. I don't understand why and it was very distracting.
Series to add (what I've seen of them):
- Paranormal Activity (none)
- Nightmare on Elm Street (first and a few sequels)
- Final Destination (none)
- Poltergeist (first)
- Exorcist (first)
- Predator (first?)
- Phantasm (none, idk what this even is)
- The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (first)
- Saw??
- Re-animator (THERE ARE SEQUELS?!)
- Gremlins (first)
- Critters (none)
- Amityville Horror (first and a horrible sequel)
- The Omen (first two)
- Gingersnaps (first and maybe two of the sequels that need rewatched)

Not really, no. Org is subtlety genius.
Friday the 13th

Yep, 3.
Jaws

You are totally insane
Alien
- Aliens (I confess I haven't seen 3 or the rest of the sequels... if I have I don't remember them, I think I saw AVP once but idk... but Aliens was so hella good I can't imagine any of the sequels being better.)
Yep, they're both great. Alien is a slow feast of elegant subtlety. Alien 3 is interesting, but not very good. Alien Resurrection you would love. It's pretty cool.
Psycho
- It's been a while since I've watched the sequels, but I do remember none of them wowed me like the first. So I'm going with the original on this one.
Yep, Psycho wowed. Two was a bit of a dark parody. Apples/crackers.
Hannibal Lecter series
- Probably cliche but... SotL. I loved the book Red Dragon, but have yet to actually see any of the movies for it or the prequel, Hannibal Rising (read the book for that one too, did not enjoy as much as Red Dragon but it was still a good read). Guess I've no choice.
I've really only seen most of the Halloween films once, and just remember enjoying the story line that went on from the first movie. I need to revisit these though as it was years ago...
I love Jason so much, there's not really a movie with him actually in it I don't enjoy.
My sanity has to do with nothing. Jaws 2 was awesome.
I want to watch the rest of the sequels to validate my opinion, but I have not heard good things about them so I am hesitant...
I remember enjoying Psycho 2, and I think I did 3 as well, but I hardly remember them... So there's really no contest for the best.
Hmm maybe I should revisit some COTC for review purposes... I'm not beyond watching a terrible movie for a few laughs.
That's why Evil Dead series is on my list, I really loved the first one, like ridiculously so.
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for your input, Sculpt!

I'm going to throw a Halloween 3 a bone here as its exactly what the Halloween series should've been, a stand alone story.

Friday The 13th - Part seven, good concept and I think Kane Hodder really brought Jason to a new level of villian. although I also really enjoyed parts 6,8,9,and Jason X.
Halloween - didn't care much for the first three of them. I like part 6 the best, and H20, and yes I'll admit it... I really enjoyed resurrection
A Nightmare On Elm Street - Part four I think. Although Dream Warriors could be a tie.
Saw - All of them, but part three is probably the best.
Scream - Part four, new story new villian, didn't see it coming.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre three, and I really loved Texas Chainsaw
Alien - part three, unless Alien vs. Preadator counts, if so then that one.
Predator - Predators
Phantasm - part three
Evil Dead - part two
Hellraiser - part three and Hellworld
Child's Play - part two, and Bride of Chucky.
Final Destination - All of them
And ones I added myself:
Wishmaster - Part one
Hatchet - All three of them
Ginger Snaps - part one (all are great though)
Jeepers Creepers - part two
Paranormal Activity - The Ghost Dimension, but part two was great too. The Marked ones sucked.

With anthologies I remembered the Goosebumps TV show. It was hit and miss, and many of the later episodes were especially lame and goofy, but in the first couple of seasons there were a fair number of good episodes. IMO the best is The Werewolf Of Fever Swamp which was actually rather scary and intense by the usual standards of the show, which is saying a lot considering how silly it got later on.

Just a shame about the final film (Ravager). Definitely not the best way to end an otherwise excellent series, especially after a long 18-year wait.

Although I listed Poltergeist II as my favorite before, it's been so long since I last watched them and my opinion could definitely change next time I see the films. I recall liking both of the first two equally but the third one definitely falls short. The 2015 remake was okay.

Can't remember if I mentioned The Thing before in this. It's eligible with the 1951 original, the 1982 remake and 2011 prequel. John Carpenter's 1982 remake is definitely the best and one of my favorite films of any genre, Horror or otherwise. My personal favorite of Carpenter's filmography as well, which is no small feat given his lengthly and mostly excellent body of work.
Also interesting to note Carpenter considers it part of his "Apocalypse Trilogy," which also includes Prince Of Darkness and In The Mouth Of Madness. In any event, The Thing is easily my favorite of these three.

Annabelle: Creation will be the newest addition to The Conjuring series (with the original two movies as well as the first Annabelle). Early reviews have been very positive and it's being overwhelmingly agreed to be better than the first. I've enjoyed the series so far and look forward to seeing how this one stands up.

I don't remember if I mentioned them before here, but the Warlock series was another I remembered. I never saw the third but recall liking the first two back in the day, been years since I last saw them. The titular villain is one of the more elegant Horror villains and it's a shame he was recasted for the third film.

I recall in an earlier post I mentioned Jurassic Park and if it counts as Horror. Seeing the trailer for the upcoming new film (Fallen Kingdom) it definitely looks far more Horror-oriented than the prior films. I recall one of the writers even said it's a Horror movie with dinosaurs and that's the vibe I get from the trailers.
In any case, the original film is easily the best by a massive margin. I feel the series declines considerably with each movie after the first, though I do think The Lost World has gotten better with age and despite it's faults is a pretty good movie.

Cool list! My list is almost the same as you. I might prefer Alien and Poltergeist, but loved Aliens as well and enjoyed Poltergeist 2.
I was curious about Predator 2. When I saw it (1990-91) on TV/cable it came off to me as a knock off, which doesnt make sense because it had twice the budget. Overall, I can't say that I even liked the film, which is odd for me because I was really impressed with the original, you know... I already liked the theme and all, it was up my alley. Many folks on Horror.com liked it. I wonder what I'm missing.
On Rottentomatoes it carries a Critics Rating of 28% (25 reviews) and 46% Audience Rating from 138,000 ratings. 46% isn't horrible in general, but considering it was an action film for fanboys (so to speak), adding 27 years of cult status, I would expect a higher rating based on that fanboy vote. But I wonder if the 46% is that bump up from a 28% rating?
Anyway, when I see it again, how should I appreciate it? What did you like about it? What are so many folks missing about it? Thanks!

For me I found Predator 2 simply more entertaining than the original, which is also a film I find tremendously entertaining. But there's other aspects to it as well, such as the darker tone and mood, the city/urban setting, the particular Predator in it and the new Predator weaponry and tech was great. I like how we get more hints about the culture and history of the Predator species without overdoing it, something the more recent Alien films are unfortunately guilty of.

Did I mention House before? I probably did. The original is easily the best, although the second film is also enjoyable is very strange and having nearly nothing to do with the original. It's been too long since I last saw the fourth and final film to have a fair judgment of it. The third film is where it gets tricky, with it simply called The Horror Show in the U.S. and not marketed as a sequel, yet elsewhere in the world it was House III. It's decent but I've always had a hard time considering it part of the series.

The Jeepers Creepers series is eligible for this now with the third film that came out a few months back. Another series I remembered and one more obscure is Xtro. I've only seen the original, it's two sequels are totally unrelated despite the title as well as having the same director back. But the original is one of the weirdest movies ever and feels like an amalgamation of every weird, nonsensical dream you've ever had in movie form. Here's a sampling of just how incredibly bizarre and WTF this movie is (fair warning these may be fairly graphic and NSFW):

I've always considered the first Jurassic Park to be a horror movie. If you watch that film there is no doubt what scenes the film is building up to, which the horror of the dinosaurs chasing people around. It's not really much different than your Empire of the Ants, or Kingdom of the Spiders, Piranha or even King Kong type films... a horror adventure sci-fi... ::big grin::

The original novel by Michael Crichton is without a doubt Horror. Spielberg gave the first film a sort of beautiful, majestic quality which evened out the Horror aspects, but the latter comes in full force during the dinosaur attack scenes. The T-Rex escape and tour car attack and later chasing the jeep, the Dilophosaurus, the Raptors in the maintenence shed and kitchen, etc. all frightening setpieces. Some may argue it isn't Horror but I always considered it a Horror film in the same vein as movies like Jaws. A Sci-Fi/Natural Horror/Adventure hybrid, which it blends all three of very well.
I just started re-reading the original novel and it's incredible how much more graphically violent it is compared with the film. It opens with a pack of Compies eating a baby. Had the movie been more like the novel there's no doubt it'd be an instant NC-17.

Yeah I completely agree, and some of the sequels were pretty scary too like the one where in the beginning a little girl on vacation with her family got eaten by a bunch of compsognathus. Those kind of scenes were pretty shocking to me as a kid.
It kind of reminded me of the movie Independence Day. I don't think that movie was meant to be 100% horror but it had some pretty scary scenes like when the spaceships started blowing up the cities and when you saw one of the aliens attacking and killing the scientists.

If you count the original Frankenstein movies as a series, I would have to say that even though Frankenstein an excellent movie, Bride of Frankenstein is better. Ernest Thesiger as Dr. Pretorius is a trip!
I have observed before that the problem with sequels is that they get crummier and crummier until you forget how good the first one was.
If they gave titles to sequels now the way they did in the 1930s, it would be Chucky, Bride of Chucky, Son of Chucky, Ghost of Chucky, Ma and Pa Kettle meet Chucky, etc.
When the studios began to make movies like Freddy vs. Jason, they were doing what Universal did when its cycle of horror movies was beginning to run out of steam, e.g., Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man

That scene is at the beginning of The Lost World. And a similar scene happens early on in the original novel. The novel is outright horrific at times with it's violence, including when a baby is eaten by a pack of Compies and Nedry's death, where he's disemboweled by the Dilophosaurus. Great as the T-Rex attack in the film is, I felt it was arguably more effective in the novel and there's also the excellent T-Rex river raft chase in the novel, a sequence sadly not yet adapted in the films. I do think the film is better overall, but the novel is absolutely worth a read as well.
Funny you mention Independence Day, as I always felt the alien autopsy scene is where the film went into Horror territory.

After going through the first three Hellraiser movies as part of my Halloween Horror viewing this past October, I think Hellraiser III might actually be my favorite one. Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but I find it's probably the all-around most entertaining one, even if it was a bit of a tonal departure from the first two. I'm behind on the series a bit as I haven't seen any past Hellseeker, but it seems the last few films are of low-quality and the series sadly was never quite the same beginning with the fourth film and it's infamously difficult production.
