It is your time to hunt, Demonwraiths. You have the weapons and the targets in sight. It is your decision to make. I will not question your decision, whichever it shall be.

And as my apprentice is completely under my spell, he shall not utter a murmur either.

I trust that you, as the brave and competitive warriors of HDC, will take the right decision. Don't be cowards like my rebellious apprentice, who had betrayed me last year, and failed.

I can't say thankyou enough, Wraiths. Truly, if you do decide to go with the descision to get rid of the no-shows then I will be forever in your debt in this game...who knows, that may work to your advantage ;) It is incredibly annoying when the people don't show up and I suppose this could help eliminate that problem. Either way, I'm going to agree with your choice whatever it may be because either way it benefits somebody and that's the main thing this is about, and I know I'd be weighing up the tactical vs moral option in my head right now...both are tempting. Kill me and Bwind or kill the no shows somebody will be happy :) And then the REAL game can begin.

Time will tell whether I'm there for it...

ChronoGrl

OK.

So we each have scythes. Scythes do 5 points damage each. There's 6 of us, so that's 30 points of damage that we can conceivably do.

V - I'm sorry, but I forget, how many "hits" can someone take once their HPs are depleted?

QUESTION FOR THE LYCANS:

Who are the bigger no-show threats to this game? Doc, Fiend, and Freak? And in what order does their no-show lameness put them as biggest to smallest threats (as in, for example, there is a more likely possibility that Freak will show up than Doc). If we do target the no-shows, then I want to make sure that we're definitely going after the ones where there is no chance in absolute HELL will show up again.

ferretchucker
07-01-2010, 04:13 PM
Well Fiend has requested to leave and Freak has only just given up. I guess it'd be Doc.

Freak
07-01-2010, 06:04 PM
I didnt send in answers on this last one cause I was pissed. My team has been full of no shows the entire game.Plus it woulndt have mattered if I had sent in answers we still would have lost anyway.

bwind22
07-01-2010, 09:03 PM
Doc's the most absent for sure. Fiend and Freak are both around, but can't seem to get their timing or motivation right.

With your 30 hits, lycans could kill me & Doc and then you guys can all head to the individual stage.

Please do kill me before Ferret though if there's a decision between the 2 of us. Not only does he have more desire to stay alive, but he's put way more effort in to this game than I have and is far more deserving to make the Final 10 than me.

Doc Faustus
07-01-2010, 09:13 PM
Just found out from Neverending that I forgot to give V my resignation from the game. I could have sworn I'd done so, but I've been rather deep in a new book and some stories. I'm sorry for any anguish I may have caused my teammates and any damage this has done to the flow of the game. If my resignation has come too late to effect this hunt, then I would like to urge everyone in the name of good sportsmanship to finish me off.

bwind22
07-01-2010, 09:31 PM
V, may I make a very bold suggestion?

Since there are 2 people that are actually asking to resign from the game AND since at least a few of the lycans seem to be considering taking pity/having mercy this round without any real vocal dissent from their teammates...

I would like to propose that Fiend Skull & Doc be allowed to bow out of the game and we move ahead to the individual stage. Now clearly it could seem like I am only suggesting this because I really should probably be 1 of the 2 or 3 wraiths getting killed right now, so I think it'd only be fair to put it to a vote of all active players... If 1 person doesn't agree to it, then I think we should just play things out, but if everyone is fine with it... It could certainly do wonders for the particpation and enjoyment levels of the game.

_____V_____
07-01-2010, 09:32 PM
V - Is there something that we can do to just eliminate the no-shows? I know the topic has been brought up again and again and again... But since it's the Demon Wraiths in the Hunting Zone, can we use this round to eliminate Doc and Fiend?

I'm willing to forfeit this hunting to remove those two players and then level set with the next challenge.

Apparently IT's words have fallen on deaf ears...

The Hunt cannot be forfeited. You have won the Challenge and you have to do your Hunting.

So we each have scythes. Scythes do 5 points damage each. There's 6 of us, so that's 30 points of damage that we can conceivably do.

You forget the Bonus Weapons carriers in your team. Not one, but TWO Demonwraiths have them.

V - I'm sorry, but I forget, how many "hits" can someone take once their HPs are depleted?

Five.

ferretchucker
07-02-2010, 03:50 AM
I suppose forfeiting the hunt and haing Doc and Fiend eliminated is no different to just using the hunt to kill them. Then again, there's the chainer. Can you guys on the wraiths survive a chainer attack?

And Bwind, seriously thank you so much for what you said back there, it does mean a lot to me.

Straker
07-02-2010, 05:10 AM
That's another part of the problem. There's already a chance we will lose Chrono this round if she ends up in the chainer zone and if we drag this out for another round there's even more chance that we will lose one of our team through chainer attacks.

I still don't know who to target yet though, to be honest. I feel like if i don't target either ferret or bwind I'm not being fair to the folks who have already gone out of the competition or my team mates, past and present. But, I equally don't like seeing the guys who don't/ can't play get a free ride each week, especially considering they want out as much as everyone else wants them out.

At this point I am considering taking the easy option and turning the scythe on myself.... It's just a little to cumbersome to be a practical suicide weapon.:)

RESULT OF THE REWARD CHAMBER OUTING #7

Demonwraith Chronogrl was led into the Reward Chamber shortly before the Zone outing started.

THREE balloons were hung in front of her, marked Alpha, Pi & Omega. She was asked to choose ONE for herself, and burst it.

Let us first see what was inside the balloons which Chronogrl DIDN'T burst -

Inside balloon Alpha - a piece of paper which reads 20 BONUS HPs!

Inside balloon Pi - a piece of paper which reads A .45 MAGNUM WITH 20 BULLETS!!

And now for what she chose.

Inside balloon Omega - a piece of paper which has an image in the center...

http://images2.layoutsparks.com/1/161234/flaming-skulls-bones-image-31000.jpg

Almost immediately, CHRONOGRL's body is bathed in a round, red, blinding haze shooting out of nowhere and she is lifted off her feet and suspended in mid-air! A blazing beam of purple-reddish light shoots right across the room and through Chrono's body shaking her from head to toe once, and the blinding light goes out! Her body falls down and she groans as she thuds onto the floor.

A change is evident. Her right arm is glowing amber-red and throbbing, with veins pulsing and the skin cracked and parched, with a prominent mark of THREE SKULLS on the center of her right arm!

Congratulations, Chronogrl!

Guess what you have won?!

The first SPELL of BATTLE ROYALE III, which is the extremely rare and very destructive SKULLSTORM!!

Once you point your right hand at your chosen enemy/enemies and utter the magic words, a blast of THREE Fire-Breathing Skulls will rush towards them and explode right on their bodies, causing damages worth 10 HPs!

You can use this ONCE every outing, and ONLY WHEN YOU ARE A DESIGNATED HUNTER inside the Zone. Then your arm will start to glow red.

At all other times, your right arm will remain normal.

You can use this wonderful spell from the next Hunting Zone outing onwards.

The Timeline inside The Zone

Fiend Skull donated ALL his HPs to "Bwind and Ferret evenly", and since he had 29 HPs with him, that would make the calculations slightly tough.

Anyway...

---------THEN THE HUNTING STARTED!-----------

Chronogrl was in Sector III, where she cut her Scythe across DOC FAUSTUS' stomach!!!

Doc used up 5 to heal himself, and had 9 left.

Saytan was in Sector I, where she cut through BWIND22 with her Scythe!

Then she aimed carefully at DOC FAUSTUS and let one of her prized Shurikens fly in his direction! The Shuriken struck Doc right on his neck!

Then she made a dash for FREDDYMYERS and bashed his brains in with her Flail!

Bwind used up the 4 HPs he had won in the last challenge, and 1 donated HP from Fiend Skull to heal himself.
Doc Faustus used up 5 more of his HPs, and now had 4 left.
FreddyMyers had just recovered back from his near-death status in the last challenge, but lost all the remaining 3 HPs he had with him.

Saytan kicked some serious ass in this outing!

Michelle chose Sector II, where she tracked down DOC FAUSTUS with her Sniper Rifle and shot him FIVE times, severely injuring him, before striding forward and towered over him, poised with her Scythe lifted high above her head. Doc turned and yelled, and that was the last sound which came out of his mouth before Michelle hacked his head clean off his neck!!

Doc's remaining 4 HPs could do him no good, and his head rolled forward and was kicked away with a malicious mirthful laugh by the evil Michelle, who also kicked his lifeless body over the waterfall!

LYCAN DOC FAUSTUS IS DEAD!!!!!

But this Sector was infested by someone whose chains rattled and spelt the doom of many a BR contestant till now. The Chainer swung out from the trees and grappled with Michelle, locking her limbs immediately with his chains! Michelle tried to fight off the Chainer with the butt of her Sniper rifle, pulling at the chains repeatedly to free herself. The Chainer clawed and ripped repeatedly, but Michelle managed to break free and jump right across the waterfall nearby to elude the Chainer.

Michelle survived the very brutal attack, at the cost of 20 of her HPs.

Straker found himself in Sector VI, where he noticed Doc's body from behind, propped near some large rocks by the bank of the roaring river! Uttering a loud whoop, he rushed forward and hacked from behind at Doc's lifeless and headless corpse with his Scythe, failing to notice Doc's decapitated condition. Realisation came soon though, and Straker threw his Scythe away in disgust. He kicked Doc's body hard, and Doc's headless body came free of the rocks and was washed downriver.

Roshiq calmly walked into Sector V, where he jumped on BWIND22 and hacked him across his chest and stomach by his Scythe! Bwind was on the verge of death, but quick donated HPs by Fiend Skull healed him up in no time.

Jenna26 chose Sector IV for herself, and walked near the river banks. Doc's headless body rolled and flung itself around the huge torrents which the roaring river conjured up, and Jenna thought Doc was alive by those movements of his body. She carefully aimed at Doc's body and threw her Scythe straight at him like a spear, and the Scythe went through Doc's chest impaling him!
Jenna gave a loud whoop of joy, but her smile immediately froze when she realised there was no cry uttered from Doc's corpse. She ran across the rocks and found out Doc had already lost his head. Frustrated, she went down on her knees and closed her eyes tightly with a very audible groan of bitter disappointment.

That concludes the Zone outing.

Since Fiend Skull has requested to opt out of BR III and his final act in this year's BR was his very gracious donation of all his HPs, the remaining HPs are stripped off his backpack and he is led straight into the Chainer's locked container, where he is ripped into shreds!

(LYCAN FIEND SKULL IS DEAD!!!)

Bwind22, FreddyMyers and Michelle are led into the Medic Center for further treatments.

The bodies of Doc Faustus and Fiend Skull are led into the Morgue.

Let's have a look at the updated statuses...

Straker...

Congratulations on making it this far by whichever means and paths you all took to reach here.

As of this moment, you all stand disbanded from your teams. No more affiliations, no more looking out for others, no more carrying burdens on your backs. In short, all of you are FREE!

In long, all of you are alone now. Which makes this game doubly dangerous for each one of you from now on. Everyone carries a huge bullseye on their backs, and knowledge, grit and plenty of tact will ensure your survival into the final stages of BR III.

The winnings will increase, there will be surprises ahead, the Chainer will be licking it's lips, and all of you will need a shitload of luck to advance.

Mumble some prayers, and let's proceed into...

ROUND 14 - THE HUNTING SEASON

The SEVEN contestants who have lost Challenge #16 have been sent into The Zone unarmed.

I am here to address all designated Hunters - Chronogrl, Bwind22 & Jenna26 - you 3 will be doing your own style and choice of hunting in the Zone yourselves.

First of all, remember that The CHAINER lurks somewhere inside The Zone.
You five have to send me your choice of the sector he prowls in - Alpha, Omega & Theta.
No two of you can make the same choice, or all 3 of you stand to be locked up with the CHAINER!

Secondly, you CANNOT FIRE at a fellow Hunter.
If you dare to so choose, your weapon will lock up, then all 3 of you stand to be SHOT THIRTEEN TIMES by the Snipers in The Watchtowers!!

Now...let's have a look at the weapon you 3 will be using in this Round...

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e360/unwedshotgun/frontier_six_shooter_large.jpg

It's a pair of SIX-SHOOTERS, BOTH FULLY LOADED!!

You may confer with other Hunters regarding your choices for hunting (or your strategies, whichever works for you) and send me your PMs accordingly - mentioning your guess for the Chainer's sector, and your choice of targets.

The deadline for firing your bullets ends at NOON EST tomorrow itself, which means you have a little more than 23 hours. So hurry!

Also, there will NOT be any "gifting" of health packs anymore, since all of you are independent contestants now.

Also, FREAK is asked to turn in his shotgun before the Hunt begins.
Likewise, MICHELLE is asked to turn in her Sniper Rifle before the Hunt begins.
And, SAYTAN is asked to turn in her Shurikens before the Hunt begins. However, you may carry your Flail with you into the Zone outing!!

Choose wisely, all of you...and Happy Hunting!!

The Timeline inside The Zone

Saytan chased down FREDDYMYERS and bashed him hard with her Flail, almost thumping his brains out!!!

Freddy used up 3 to heal himself, and had 6 left with him.

Bwind went into Sector Theta, where he stumbled into SAYTAN and BLASTED HER WITH ALL 12 BULLETS!!!

Saytan pulled out her HP backpack and spent 12 of them to heal herself back, but had 25 left.

Jenna26 chose Sector Omega, where she came across an injured SAYTAN and didn't feel one bit of remorse while SHE BLASTED HER WITH ALL 12 BULLETS of her 2 Six-shooters!!

Saytan was hyperventilating, riddled with bullet-holes from head to toe, but had enough HPs to withstand such a severe attack again. 12 spent HPs later, she was FIT again.

And had 13 left.

Chronogrl walked into Sector Alpha, where she noticed SAYTAN crawling on the ground looking desperately for some cover, her bleeding wounds covered with HP patches all over her body. Licking her lips with a savage glee, Chrono pulled out her 2 Six-shooters and mercilessly FIRED AWAY BLINDLY!!!

Saytan was already weakened by all the bullets which had thumped into her body, but she did not give up. One weak hand tugged at her remaining HPs which slowly patched her fresh wounds. She was severely injured, sore and bleeding, and her heart was pounding into her ears. The mind was blanking out, and the eyes were closing. She was fighting back imminent death, with only 1 HP left in her backpack.

Chrono took one step back, and glanced at her own right arm. It was glowing crimson brightly, and the three skulls in the center throbbed out at her. A wild, wicked fury came into her eyes as she lifted her right hand slowly and pointed it straight at Saytan.

Saytan's slitted, half-open eyes widened for an instant, realising what was coming. She tried to scrape backwards somehow, but Chrono had uttered the words by then.

SHRAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!

In the blink of an eye, THREE HUGE FLAMING SKULLS JUMPED OUT OF CHRONO'S RIGHT HAND AND POUNCED AT SAYTAN! They went straight at her chest and bombarded it with all their collective might!

That was the last view Saytan had of the Battle Royale world. Then came the sudden, blinding darkness as her head and chest exploded into bits!

SAYTAN IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!

But someone else was watching all this with evil, glowing eyes. The Chainer growled softly and jumped out of the trees straight in front of Chrono. Chrono's eyes became wide with instant fear, and she looked frantically at her right arm again. It had become normal and was glowing no more, and the 3 skulls were nowhere to be seen. Chrono yelled and tried to turn around to run, but the Chainer instantly had her locked in his sharp, spiky chains. Chrono tried to free herself as much as she could, but the spikes were too strong and ate away at various parts of her limbs. She shrieked in severe agony and jostled out of the chains somehow, then threw herself across the rocks by the side of the trees and rolled downwards into the valley beyond, enduring plenty more cuts, bruises and scratches.

Chrono survived the merciless attack of the Chainer, but lost 20 of her HPs in an instant.

That concludes the Zone outing.

Chronogrl and FreddyMyers are led into the Medic Center for further treatments.

The body of Saytan is led into the Morgue in a moment of mournful silence, for a warrior who fought with all her might till her end.

DAMN YOU CHAINER!!!

...

But I would like to say RIP, Saytan; nothing personal - we looked at people with the most HPs + who scored high in the last challenge. I want to thank you for making this game possible; without you stepping up BR would have been finished months ago.

Exactly: HPs + Threat-level (i.e. Challenge-scoring plus extra weapons) was what we went by. Having an extra weapon raised the threat-level significantly.

...

Not that we really even NEED to be justifying why we went after who we did...

But now you guys are making me feel like a dick for targeting Saytan. :(

There you have it. Don't be alarmed at seeing the films' names up there. Naming the films was optional, which means that doesn't affect your points whether you name them or not. Just the characters and the years were good enough for the points.

Now let's see how you all fared...

The Scoreboard for Challenge #17

The Top 3 scorers get to be the designated Hunters. In case of a tie in points, the ones who sent me their entries first get selected.

Here are the scores, in the order in which I received the entries :-

Ferretchucker - 56 points

ChronoGrl - 60 points (Designated Hunter AND Reward Chamber Winner)

Straker - 60 points (Designated Hunter)

Michelle - 58 points

Bwind22 - 60 points (Designated Hunter)

Jenna26 - 60 points

Roshiq - 60 points

FreddyMyers - 30 points (The Challenge was about the characters, not the films. But you got the years and the ascending order correct, hence half of the total points)

Freak - 00 points (*No Entry Submitted*)

I believe this is Freak's 3rd straight no-show, and he hasn't even dropped out of BR III. If I don't hear from him till the end of this Hunting Zone outing, his HPs will be stripped and he will be locked in inside The Chainer's container.

(Jenna26 & Roshiq both scored 60 points each too, but their entries came in later than the first 3 winners, so they miss out on being Designated Hunters.)

Let's see what the outing in The Zone has in store for all of you...

THE REWARD CHAMBER

Minutes before the Hunting Zone outing, the winner Chronogrl is led into the Reward Chamber.

Chronogrl, you have THREE marked doors in front of you - X, Y & Z.

Each door has TWO boxes behind it, and they are marked 1 & 2.

You may select any ONE door, and anything behind it PLUS the contents of the TWO boxes behind THAT door will be yours to keep FOREVER!

Make your choice of a door, and send your PM to me.

THE HUNTING SEASON - ROUND #15

The SIX contestants who have lost Challenge #17 have been sent into The Zone unarmed.

I am addressing all designated Hunters - Chronogrl, Straker & Bwind22 - you chosen 3 will be doing your own style of hunting in the Zone.

First of all, remember that The CHAINER lurks somewhere inside The Zone.
You three have to send me your choice of the Area he prowls in - 1, 2 & 3.
No two of you can make the same choice, or all 3 of you stand to be locked up with the CHAINER!

Secondly, you CANNOT FIRE at a fellow Hunter.
If you dare to do so, your weapon will either lock up or break, then all 3 of you stand to be SHOT FOURTEEN TIMES by the Snipers in The Watchtowers!!

Now...let's have a look at the weapon you 3 will be using in this Round...

http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv135/Bartoneye93/A%20Deft%20Hand%20picture%20references/CharcoalBeamCannon.jpg

It's a BEAM CANNON, LOADED WITH ONE PROPELLING BEAM BLAST!! It will cause damage worth 15 HP!

You may confer with the other two Hunters regarding your choices for hunting (or your strategies, whichever works for you) and send me your PMs accordingly - mentioning your choice for the Chainer's Area, and your choice of target.

The deadline for firing your Beam Cannons ends at NOON EST tomorrow itself, which means you have around 22 and half hours. So hurry!

If you don't fire your Beam Cannon, all THREE of you will be shot FOURTEEN TIMES by the Snipers!

Choose wisely, all of you...and Happy Hunting!!

The Timeline inside The Zone

Bwind22 marched into Area 2 and chased down ROSHIQ! He punched him hard from behind and threw him down into the ground, before emitting a huge evil cackle as he BLASTED Roshiq with his Beam Cannon!

Roshiq was "well-done" in an instant, but rolled on the ground inbetween using 15 of his HPs to heal himself. He had 27 left with him when he was done.

But the master of this Area was hiding up above in the trees, watching the action below it with intense, fiery eyes. The Chainer roared and jumped down straight at Bwind. Bwind's eyes were filled with an instant dread and alarm, as he frantically checked his Beam Cannon for more ammo. Sadly, it was empty. Bwind lifted the huge gun and threw it at the Chainer, but the Chainer merely swerved to one side and let the weapon fly harmlessly by. Bwind turned to run but almost instantly two long chains came flying forward and locked his legs tightly, making him yell as he fell towards the ground. He threw his legs around and tried to tug at them, and two more chains came whistling through the air and pinned his arms back. Bwind jostled with them and pulled at the spikes, tearing out several of his finger nails which made him scream in intense agony. But somehow he pulled his legs free and rolled backwards straight into a hole in the ground, the chains tugging at his bloodied arms one final time as they were yanked back over the blood-soaked and perspiring wrists of Bwind. His screams echoed around him again and again.

Bwind was very lucky in surviving the brutal onslaught of the Chainer, but at the cost of 20 of his HPs.

Straker went into Area 1, where he found out ROSHIQ's hiding place inside a cave and before Roshiq could even move, let him have a single, HUGE blast of his Beam Cannon!!!

Roshiq was the chosen target for a quick barbecue, it was evident. He was burnt all over and most of the boils and cracks on his parched skin became hot and burst out, as fresh blisters covered his body everywhere. 15 HPs later, Roshiq was FIT again. 12 left.

And...

THAT'S IT!!!

ONE Beam Cannon was not fired. And it belonged to CHRONOGRL!!!

Because of that, 30 minutes before the deadline was up, Chronogrl was marked for a very special and brutal punishment. Two soldiers came forward and pulled Chrono out of the huddled group near the gates, and cuffed her hands tightly behind her back. She was then dragged forward, stumbling and pleading all the while, and was thrown into The Chainer's container. The doors slammed shut, and Chrono's shrieks resounded in the night sky for the next 15 minutes!

She was pulled out when the thuds quietened, barely breathing and ripped apart everywhere. She was bleeding profusely from head to toe, and her entire body was covered with spike marks and chain slashes everywhere. She had survived the very brutal Chainer attack, but at the cost of losing all her remaining HPs, and coming out SEVERELY WOUNDED.

And then, the windows of the watchtowers opened, and the Snipers came down hard upon the three chosen ones.

FOURTEEN shots at each one of the THREE hunters!

Before all the shots were fired however, TWO designated Hunters fell down, their eyes rolling back into their heads as the shots kept pounding into their damaged, ravaged, lifeless bodies, tearing them and brutalising them again and again long after the light had gone out of their eyes.

He had only 3 HPs left with him, and they were not enough to save him from the wrath of the BR Snipers.

She was on her final throes of life, relentlessly spasming in a Severely Wounded condition.

Another two of the brave warriors and desperate survivors of BR III bite the dust...

BWIND22 IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!

CHRONOGRL IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus I wasn't sure that a "HOLD EVERYTHING FOR ME" plea would go over very well); it's kinda lame to go down this way, but that's how the Chainer falls!

I want to say Thank You to V for putting this together for the third year in a row. Thanks for your creativity, your patience, and your ridiculous organization skills. Without you this couldn't be possible.

I would ALSO like to thank Rayne's friends who all stepped in when we needed participants - Saytan, Michelle, Groundzero (I think I'm forgetting someone here and if I am I'm sorry) - This game couldn't go on without you.

I also want to give props to n00bs Straker and Freddymeyers. You guys were great teammates. It was great getting to know you and working with you on a team. Special thanks to Freddy for all the effort you put in despite the computer and network issues. You rule.

And thanks to all participants who made this game possible and fun - I've played with some of you for three years now and it's fantastic to be playing together again. Missmacabre, Rayne, Roshiq, Jenna, F13THF, Zero, Bwind, The Return, Dude - Just to name a few.

For those of you who are left, good luck.

I really wish I could have stayed for the end, and I did plan to. It was only last Thursday that it dawned on me that I was going on a two week cruise starting Saturday. I decided to wait until I got onto the boat to see if there was free wifi or anything like that (internet wasn´t too helpful beforehand) but alas when I arrived I discovered they were charging 50 pence a minute which really stacked up. In fact, when I came online the other day to quickly let V know I couldn´t continue in the competition and post that message it cost me 7 Pounds (I also checked facebook). The only reason I´m able to post this is because we´ve found an Internet Cafe in Cartegena.

Really sorry guys, I feel so guilty considering the sacrifices some of you made to keep me in. To the remaining five I say good luck, you all really deserve to win.

And to V, I say thank you very much for an incredibly enjoyable competition. I sincerely hope we get to see a forth but as you said, that might be unlikely.

His eyes glare at the guard, and he turns slightly to face him. The golden badge shining brightly on his proud chest beams its light at the guard, almost silently yelling it's bold printed letters at him in reply.

The guard reads it and gulps once audibly, looking back at the eyes of the figure.

"Big apologies. I didn't know who you were."

The other guard closes his gaping mouth and immediately throws the big doors open.

The figure doesn't utter a word and strides straight in towards the big round table in the center. The host sees him and immediately begins to announce his arrival.

Roshiq's Query - "What do you think has been the single biggest factor in contributing to the downfall of horror from the early 90s till now?

1 - Too much corporate interference from the studios?

2 - Lack of original talent and material?

3 - Too much emphasis on sequels and remakes?"

From the 3 options of answers from our honorable judge the Simian Man, I chose no. 1 = Too much corporate interference from the studios.

Analysis/points to support my answer:

Apart from a nice little boom of serial killer sub genre & some acclaimed original films like In the mouth of Madness, Candyman & Jacob's ladder two main problems pushed horror backward during 90's:
1. The proliferation of nonstop slasher and gore films in the eighties.
2. The young audience who feasted on the blood and morbidity of the previous decade grew up, and the replacement audience for films of an imaginative nature were being captured instead by the explosion of special effects possibilities with CGI.
Directors and producers started to feel somehow as if they have to show more in order to get more from the audience and make sure it will appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Money-shark studios and directors alike tend to borrow successful scenes or effects from one film, and repeat it consistently throughout every subsequent film, relying on those said scenes and effects to provide entertainment in lieu of any originality or plot. What happened to keeping the audience in suspense by waiting until the finale to reveal the monster or the breathtaking big murder scene? Horror films then begin to producing a chain reaction, the more creatures and blood and guts that films show, the more the audience 'will want to see in the future'. Studios sacrificing substance for shock treatment.
It was supposed to happen while the rapid commercialization goes in an expanding industry like entertainment and media, all that matters to the people that put up money to fund a project is cold hard cash or an assurance of secure & quick return.
A blockbuster film is not always necessarily a good one, but under the hands of corporate culture studios seem to watch the numbers more often than the movies they produce, and one blockbuster is apt to be followed by five others bearing extreme similarities. Of course, this results in numbers dropping as audiences tire of the same drivel, leading the studios to find the next big blockbuster to reproduce into oblivion. New and eager filmmakers may in some case repeatedly turned away in favor of the next remake of a horror classic. This isn’t going to become an argument about how remakes nowadays are abundant and terrible; it’s just going to say that this is how it is now. This is the popular trend and people are sick of it. Of course, it doesn’t matter that people are sick of it as long as the money is made by the studios.
Stuart Gordon once said that the investors for Re-Animator gave him these guidelines: Has to be horror, has to be feature length (which at the time was 75 minutes at minimum), and had to have a final cut delivered by a certain date, which was around a year after they were to begin principal production. Nowadays, these types of deals are unheard of. Independence of creativity have to fight & get its license under the seal of corporate demand.

In the last note I like to add the following quote of Joe Dante said in an interview at Edinburgh International Film Festival, 2009..."There was not the same degree of freedom as there had been in the Seventies, but there was not the kind of studio interference that we see today with the corporate mentality. That was just coming in, but it hadn't fully taken hold. Now it's like working for a bank."

Michelle's Query - "You're a producer who is going to "reboot" the Dr. Phibes movies. Will you do a sequel or a remake (and why) and who are you going to cast that will please the die-hard Price fans and younger viewers as well?"

As a producer who is going to "reboot" the Dr. Phibes movies I would be inclined to do a remake. The reason I would do a remake is because the original is 39 years old. There are generations of movie goers who have never seen the original, so a sequel at this point would be a crime. The new generations of fans need a proper introduction to the genius of Dr. Anton Phibes.

I would like to cast Gary Oldman as the Doctor. Oldman possesses an otherworldy ability to transform himself into antagonists that you can empathize with, which is key to the character of Dr. Phibes. Plus Gary Oldman could grow a sweet moustache and he is extremely adept at working in an elaborate and fantasical setting.

Straker's Query - "Does the resounding success of the Twilight series at the Box Office mean that today's horror has to aim at teenagers and romance to ensure success commercially, rather than be out-and-out horrific and scary, as has been the trend for most of the mainstream releases in horror history?"

First off, it’s important to point out that no matter how commercially successful the Twilight Saga is, it is not horror. It is simply a teen romance that happens to borrow from the vampire mythos. It fails to deliver what would typically be expected of any film associated with the genre and sits much more comfortably placed within romance. The movies fail to offer more than teenage angst and romance. You will find more bite in an episode of Count Duckula than any one of the twilight movies….

qF6xdUAuPHY

That said, there can be no doubt that movie makers will always look for safe investments and given the commercially success of the franchise, it is almost certain to spawn copies and dictate a certain desire to tap into the same market. I’m not convinced this will lead to a move away from what could be termed ‘traditional’ horror since the target audience is simply not the same.

A good movie is a good movie and if you have a good movie it would not be necessary to throw a teen romance story in there to ‘ensure’ commercial success. That route, while it may be applied by some movie makers, demonstrates a lack of creativity and quality and serves only to highlight a complacent market. Commercial success should always be ensured through quality rather than following predetermined formulas of success.

While there is a market for traditional horror or pure blood and gore movies they will continue to find their audience. The target audience of traditional horror would not be comparable to that of the Twilight Saga and as such is unlikely to directly affect the production of traditional horror. I think it’s fair to assume horror is here to stay, with or without the Twilight Saga.

I find the reasoning behind the choice of doing a remake somewhat simplistic. A new sequel could afford an opportunity for marketting the first 2 films- an out of the box rerelease that could be a cinematic event- as well as new boxed set DVD collection, preparing the way for a new sequel. Still, there are only two possible answers, so I give 3 points to that part of the question.

Second part- casting of Gary Oldman is inspired. He has cred within the genre in many films, he has the chops to live up to the role, and he might even create a portrayal that is a fitting homage to Price. There are only a few other actors I could see attempt the role. Points for this part- 4.5.

Total points- 7.5. An above average answer. No punishment. Small reward.

I am eliminating from history the movie Psycho. Known as the perfect movie at the perfect time. I picked Psycho because without this movie there would still be the undead, monsters, ghosts and even psychotic killers. The fact of life is that there always has been and always will be “psychos.” The atmosphere, camera work and score had more to do with the success of it way more than the other 2 movies. More so than most movies period. The sad fact of life is the Psychos do exist and eventually there would be a movie made about them. Peeping Tom came out a couple of months before Psycho but didn’t come close to the success. The reason for this is Big Al, not the movie itself. If he’d never thought to do Psycho his way of directing another movie would have still made him a classic icon, but if you add in previously unknown sexuality, a couple screeching violins and a theatre antic (You weren’t allowed to leave the theatre once the movie began, which created a buzz throughout America) you would now have the classic movie it has become.
Humans are human, which means their gonna do stupid, scary, crazy and even psychotic shit, all of which can be recorded into history and therefore have a movie made about it. That is why Psycho is expendable, it would still be going on weather a movie was made about it or not. What would be missed is the way Alfred created his own atmosphere, and use of camera angles and shots. But that’s not to say we wouldn’t have seen that same in another movie. Cant understate how important the human element is for a movie like Psycho. Without psycho there still would be serial killer movies just because there would still real life serial killers. Movies that involve the human element can be recreated but it’s the director that can make that same movie a classic. Now think of NOTLD never being thought of, or the notion of dead people being reanimated back to life or a monster in the moonlight relentlessly chasing after you. Now you just eliminated a huge percentage of horror period! Psychos will and have always existed but the same can’t be said about reanimated and/or put back together corpses. The human aspect of psycho is its biggest contributor but also the reason horror could exist without it ever being created. The same cant exactly be said about the others.
As for the others, I choose Night Of The Living Dead to be the most deserving of its classic status. This is in no way any disrespect to Frankenstein but think of the horror genre as a whole, now think of it without the undead. Without the living dead there is a huge hole in horror itself. Without Frankenstien there is still Dracula, Wolfman and other creatures or monsters in which early cinema could still create and harness the horror element all while still scaring audiences. Out of sheer numbers alone you would have to say NOTLD is a more important movie which would in return be more deserving of “classic” status. Frankenstien is one of the best stories ever told but there are times in which you are sympathizing with the villain. By the end of the story you’re not sure whether its him or us that the villain is, which should be taken as a compliment to the story itself. How can you see frank as a villain when as tosses the girl over the bridge thinking she would float just like the flowers. Now think of Zombies attacking the poor girl and pouring over the bridge with her trying to devour as much flesh as possible. Monsters and zombies are known as a few sub genres of horror, not Frankensteins’ and zombies. The percentage and effect that NOTLD had on the genre is the reasoning behind me stating that it is more deserving of the Classic status.

ANNOUNCEMENT

I deeply regret to inform everyone that the fifth Finalist in the Round of 5, Jenna26, is regretfully dropping out from BR III at this stage because of health issues beyond her control.

She wishes to thank all her former teammates for making this yet another fun outing for her, and she wishes the best of luck to the remaining 4 Finalists.

So, as per BR III tradition, all her HPs are stripped from her and she is led to The Chainer's container!

Sorry to see you go out like this, Jenna. You will be missed.

The Timeline inside The Zone

ROSHIQ immediately caught sight of STRAKER and let TWO rockets fly in his direction!

BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Both rockets blasted within micro-seconds of each other on impact, and Straker flew through the air. He was a bloody and mangled mess of sizzling flesh and bubbling red-hot blood when he hit the ground. Luckily, his HPs came to his rescue.

Roshiq didn't stop there. He tracked down where MICHELLE was looking around for her intended targets, and blasted his remaining rocket straight at her!

BLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!

Michelle was caught off-guard, and the rocket blew mercilessly right in front of her face. But, she had more than enough HPs to survive the blast. Michelle was furious in her pain, and she was hopping mad to get back at Roshiq, who had disappeared almost immediately. The empty Rocket Launcher was dumped some way away from the injured Michelle.

Freddy Myers turned around sharply. The sounds of the explosions had come from somewhere near to his right, and he instantly knew he had someone to target in his vicinity. Taking his .38 out, he immediately jumped towards that direction and dodged through the bushes moving forward. Soon he came across Michelle, who was slowly patching herself up. Freddy licked his lips and picked up his gun. Aiming straight at Michelle's head, he pulled the trigger three times.

BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!

At that very instant, Michelle had slid towards her right to reach into her backpack. The three bullets caught her straight on her right shoulder and side, and Michelle felt the impact throwing her backwards. She managed to steady herself as she reached for more HPs, her fiery-red eyes immediately turning towards the bushes where Freddy was hiding. Freddy lay low and slunk backwards away from Michelle's sight.

Or so he thought.

Michelle was raging, more in absolute anger at being targetted than at her own position for being a sitting duck. She had shut off the sensations of aching which shot through her body and climbed up a nearby tree. Taking her Sniper Rifle out, she carefully scanned the nearby areas for Roshiq. But as luck would have it, she zoomed in on her intended target first - FREDDY MYERS! Taking careful aim, she squeezed the trigger rapidly 12 times!!

SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!!

Freddy was nervously hiding behind a big pile of rocks. The silent sniper shells zinged through the air and thudded straight into his back and chest, and he rolled about on his feet for a second before slowly slumping down into the ground. He grabbed at his HPs desperately and started patching himself up.

Michelle looked on. Oh no you don't, she thought grimly and jumped down from her tree. Hanging her Sniper Rifle back above her shoulder, she took the Magnum out and strode forward determinedly to where Freddy lay. Freddy was heaving and perspiring, breathless from losing blood to the sniper bullets embedded deep inside his wounds. Michelle came up straight to him and stood right over his head. Freddy looked at the shiny, glinting gun pointed straight at his forehead for a minute, then at Michelle in a sudden spasm of sheer alarm.

"Your time ends now," Michelle remarked smugly, and pressed the Magnum's trigger rapidly.

BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!! BLAMMMM!!!!!

The roars of the Magnum rocked the entire area as the SIX bullets seared straight into Freddy's head, blasting it apart into several pieces like a smashed pumpkin!

FREDDY MYERS IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!

That concludes the Zone outing.

Michelle and Straker are led into the Medic Center for further treatments.

The body of Freddy Myers is led into the Morgue by the Medics team.

I hereby address all 3 of you with a common question - You're a producer of an upcoming low budget horror film.
You have only $10 million budget.
Your film is original and has no ties to any popular horror "franchise."
Your film must have a supernatural element.
It must appeal to an international audience.
What is your storyline and how will you ensure a box office smash, given your small budget?

Think it over, ponder your options carefully, do some research into the finer details, and then PM me your answers. My suggestion to all of you - take a lot of time to think, contemplate and bring out something creative and exciting for this particular answer.

All THREE of you have plenty of time till Sunday, Noon EST to send your answers via PM to me, which is 48 HOURS FROM NOW!

Your answers will then be sent off via PMs by me to randomly selected Judges who will analyse, evaluate, and award you points on a scale of 0-10. Beware, if you score below 5, you are liable to be PUNISHED by the same honorable Judge who is in charge of your answer.

All the best, Finalists!

HDC BATTLE ROYALE ROUND OF THREE - THE VERDICTS

The first reply, came from Finalist Straker.

"You're a producer of an upcoming low budget horror film.

Our story begins following the savvy deadbeat, John, doing what he does best, hunting ghosts and investigating the paranormal. John makes a lucrative living selling his brand of paranormal services to wealthy individuals who believe there homes are haunted. For a ‘modest’ fee he can guarantee to provide customers with a ‘complete paranormal cleansing’ of their home. John is ably assisted by his mexican sidekick who occasionally works hard but importantly works for peanuts. While John has a whole host of fancy ghost hunting equipment and furthermore delights in putting on a show for his customers, there can be no mistake that when the job is done, John is no more than a sceptic looking to make ‘big bucks from rich people’.

After completing his most recent job, a paranormal cleansing of a thought to be haunted apartment block, our hero receives a call asking for his services. The job is an out of town mansion that the new owners believe to be haunted. John explains that due to the nature of the job his services won’t come cheap. His new mark, sorry customer, appears unconcerned with cost and our intrepid ghost hunter soon realises this is a job that could pay for his whole summer.

Sidekick in tow, John heads out of town to what will be his home for the duration of the job. Upon arrival, John allows his sidekick to unload the van while further discussing costs with his customers. John is soon given a tour of his latest paranormal challenge and delights in demonstrating the complex nature of his work to his new customers and finally, of course, asking them to stay away until the cleansing is complete. Customers out the way, John and his sidekick crack open a few beers and settle in for a lazy weekend of ghost hunting…. If it isn’t already apparent at this point, it should be known that the main drive of the film is comedic rather than serious.

Now our two hero’s are at their destination and alone and the real fun can begin. The first night our hero’s discover their ghost hunting equipment giving off some strange readings. From here we are plunged into a banquet of bumps in the night, poltergeists and ghostly figures prowling the hallways.

By the 3rd and final night of the job and indeed our story our hero’s are resolved to getting out of the house and heading home. Of course its not that easy as our hero's find themselves trapped. The slapstick horror is taken up to the extreme ultimately culminating in the destruction of the house just before day break. As our hero’s stumble from the wreckage they are greeted by the home owners pulling into the driveway who ask ‘are we still going get billed for this’.... Roll credits.

While the movie would be filled with scares, plenty of suspense and laced with dark humour it is, essentially, driven towards being all out fun. Little bit cheesy, little bit camp, but ultimately exciting and uplifting. No tortured souls or hidden secrets, no sophistication or subtle plot twists. What you see is what you get, two flawed but likeable characters in a tongue in cheek supernatural survival romp.

Its international and even universal appeal is born out of simple and honest fun. Attempting to offer an antidote to the ever so serious world of modern cinema, the movie aims to demonstrate a return to honest entertainment rather than emotional claptrap. The budget constraints would be ample to ensure the production, direction and script were well delivered.

As for our cast and crew, we have a more than ample budget to entice the Bubba Ho- tep partnership of director Don Coscarelli and living legend Bruce Campbell to play our hero, with his mexican sidekick being played by the cult legend, Cheech Marin. Coscarelli ensures our scares pack a decent punch and brings a quality and creativity to the project while Campbell ensures a high level of slapstick, camp entertainment guaranteed to be fun. Having these guys on board opens up the avenue of further cameo appearances from guys like Reggie Bannister, Ted Rami and no doubt gives us access, in a consultancy capacity, to the master of horror, Sami Rami. Almost guaranteed cult success will likely ensure the movie finds its audience and proves a financial success. Even with some high quality special effects and stunts from guys like Bob Ivy et al, it is unlikely that the budget of $10 million would be stretched, leaving plenty of cash for a solid ad campaign for a small budget movie or even the possibility of a few straight to DvD sequels.

This is what esteemed Judge had to say in his verdict...

"This comes across as sort of generic. The choice of Don Coscarelli and Cheech Marin are inspired, but I'm not sure there's that much of a concept here.
I'm going to give him a solid 6.5. Small reward."

So Straker, you have scored a pretty decent score for your effort. Good show. You also win a SHOTGUN WITH SIX SHELLS!

Congrats.

The other Judge hasn't turned in their verdict yet, and we are waiting to see if the Judges' agree to give Roshiq some more time.

Stay tuned for updates.

The third remaining Finalist, Roshiq, is asking for some extra time because he was really busy with some urgent office and personal work.

Well, I haven't heard back from any of the Judges and Roshiq asked for about 5-6 more hours because of his genuine problem, and its almost 1 30 AM here so...if the Judges and the other two Finalists have no problem, I am willing to extend Roshiq's deadline for a period of no more than 12 hours from the moment the deadline expired.

So that leaves Roshiq with...around 8 hours from now to get an entry in, if he can.

Of course, this is if and only if the Judges agree with me. If he sends in an entry within the next 8 hours and even 1 Judge disagrees with my suggestion, his entry will stand scratched.

Sorry, Roshiq. That's the best I can do, buddy.

HDC BATTLE ROYALE III ROUND OF THREE - THE VERDICTS

The second reply, came from Finalist Michelle.

"You're a producer of an upcoming low budget horror film.
You have only $10 million budget.
Your film is original and has no ties to any popular horror "franchise."
Your film must have a supernatural element.
It must appeal to an international audience.
What is your storyline and how will you ensure a box office smash, given your small budget?"

Storyline:

A group of high school students set out to make their own horror movie with no budget. In select footage that was filmed in a garage setting, they find an apparition upon reviewing their footage for editing.
They return to the garage setting to determine if the apparation will reappear. It is here where they encounter a phantasmical entity.

Ensuring a box office smash:

To try to ensure a box office smash, I will pursue endorsing quotes from known authors, directors and producers. Aggressive advertising is also a key, perhaps focusing on test screening audience results, which would hopefully be terrifyingly shocking.

This is what the esteemed Judge had to say in his verdict...

"There is nothing original or interesting in this plot. It also lacks detail. The marketing plan is also uninspired and unoriginal. There's also no mention of how this will appeal to an international audience.

This answer FAILS.
Grade: 1/10
PUNISHMENT."

Sorry Michelle, but you FAILED this Challenge. The Judge has decided to punish you in big capital letters, so you have been SHOT ONCE SPREADSHOT STYLE BY HIS HAND CANNON!!

Honestly I'm not surprised on the outcome of this challenge for me.

But just for the record,

The day the challenge was posted was the day I left to pick up my daughter 2 provinces away, we had 48hr's to complete this challenge which in my opinion is enough time to do so! However when half of those 24 hours are spent driving and getting to sleep for a bit, It honestly left me all of 15 minutes do gather something together and send it in. I was actually working on an a damn good storyline that was completely different from the one I sent in, however I just didn't have the time to iron out all of the kinks, therefore this was like I said all of 15 min to throw together. I did not realize we could ask for extra time either, otherwise I may just have asked for that option.

maybe when I have sometime to iron out the kinks with the one I was working on I will send it in, not as part of the game but just for a read.

ALSO on a side note: I am away from home until sunday, I do have my laptop with me my problem is finding hotspots for the wireless. I will check in here as much as possible and hopefully do not miss, hunting or a challenge!!

Michelle

HDC BATTLE ROYALE III ROUND OF 3 - THE VERDICTS

The final entry, came from Finalist Roshiq.

The Unusual & Uncanny

A horror anthology of four frightening stories/parts directed by 4 directors:

Samantha's Grave:
Alex baker just came to the cemetery to pay his last visit & tribute to his dead wife samantha. She died last month after suffering a severe fever with a rare skin disease for last 1 & half year. Alex though bit drunk but (standing in front of samantha's grave) started nicely "dear sam, you'll be missed in coming days...." but gradually his tone and mode begin to change & started to curse her..."you 1 god damn terrible ugly bitch, i hope you're now rotting in hell. Thank god he took you away before i was going to kill you...".
The good for nothing job & childless alex actually was happy & felt very lucky when samantha died. He then able to acquire all the property that she inherited from her parents as well as her savings in the bank. Alex already sold them, took the money & moving to las vegas to have all the joy & fun in the world that he was waiting for a long time.
After a while he left the cemetery & started to drive away from the town in his old volkswagen. After driving nearly 10 to 15 miles the horror begins when he started to seeing samantha's grave with the epitaph beside or even in the middle of the road. It was like following him. He thought he was fully drunk & hallucinating all of these. He then stopped in a highway motel to spend the night. When he lied down in the bed, he just instantly fall into sleep. In the middle of the night he woke up for a moment with a bad smell while seeing samantha's grave just in front of the room's door inside.
"wtf!?! Why they allow her to come into my room?" alex was mumbling & fall into sleep again. But next time when he wake...he didn't wake in the room; he wake up inside samantha's grave while she has so much to say & give to him now under a creepy makeover!
Director: Mitchell lichtenstein (teeth)
cast: Dylan baker (alex baker), jordan ladd (samantha)

The Mute Girl:
After deciding to live together, sally moved into paul's new rented apartment in the downtown. At the very first night she waked in the middle of the night as she heard a little girl mumbling something very near somewhere. Next morning she took the matter very lightly but told paul about that & asked whether the building's premise has a 'haunting' history. Paul was laughing & assured her that there's no such thing with this calm & quite place. While they were going out for the office sally saw a very cute little asian girl with her mother in the elevator. When she asked her name then none of them replied but left the lift. Later paul told sally that the woman & her daughter moved into their upper floor just few months back, that girl's name is simi & she can't speak and nobody knows about her father as the rarely spoken mother don't like to talk about him for some unknown reason.
After few days sally first saw that mute girl in her dream. The dream was very ordinary, she was in the office arguing with paul for a very silly matter. The extraordinary part comes when suddenly she saw that little asian girl standing in a corner of the room. Paul didn't notice her while simi came towards sally & told her that the old lady who alone in their next door flat have been died for 3 but nobody knows. And that will eventually discover later by the apartment manager.
In this way, simi started to showing herself in sally's dream infrequently & tells her all about the sad & disturbing things happening in different flats of the building. She can't tell her mum who was highly insomniac. But sally wasn't convince enough whether to believe her or not as in reality she actually can't say a single word or make a sound from her mouth. She kept the strange matter with herself. Simi later even begin to tell her in dreams about things going to happen in near future. Like the car accident causes the death of the couple living in top floor, sally's pregnancy...paul's hidden-negative reaction about it and finally his conspiracy to killing the unborn baby! When helplessly sally asks for help to simi, then she agrees to help her in one condition: She will accept all the consequences whatever happens next which won't heart at least sally for sure. Sally accepts the deal and next day when paul tried to drugged her with a high dose medicine that's enough to cause the damage then simi begins to scream from her apartment. The terrible sound of the scream breaks down all the glasses of the buildings and almost all the people inside the apartment loses their hearings and their ears starts to bleed heavily. The Illegal Immigrant:
In an alternate reality somewhere in europe or america a state government legalized vampirism for the very first time in history.
Against the high protests from different national & international groups of many forms, the ruling govt. Leader said in a press note: "it's now time to think about whether to deny & destroy them as an undead night creature or to welcome & place them in our community under some strictly mutual interests that can help us to prosper & develop economically & defensively...."
the main aspect was that the state can use them in various day to day productive ways in night shift for in the betterment of their effectiveness as a nation or country. But there are some strict laws that everyone need to follow: Vampires not allowed to feed on any local people, tourists and legal immigrants. In the same way humans or any legal foreigners or locals will be punished if they tries to hunt any vampires. Now the question rise...then how will the vampires able to survive? A legal division of health care is in charge of that matter who will provide their very necessary food/blood supply from the imprisoned convicted human criminals with death sentence and from the alarming rate of illegal immigrants who also treated as criminal.
Now the story begins when an high official human govt. Servant mr. Roman nicolai started to suspect his colleague john ahmed may be engaged in providing unlawful protections to some illegal immigrants. Roman secretly assigns norton dark...a young punk vampire who's been fugitive for months after beating & killing several humans. Roman assured norman that if he can get some valid info by invading john's mansion at night while he will be out for an office party, then he'll manage to take off all the charges against him.
At the same time, john was actually providing shelter for a fellow named mikhael who somehow came from the same country where john was born. Unfortunately mikhael found himself as an illegal immigrant but assured by john that he'll help him to get out from this state & send him somewhere where he won't at least get killed by the authorities who fed vampires.
So when norton breaks down into john's big mansion then a cat & mouse game starts between him & mikhael which ended in the green house located in the middle of the garden behind the mansion and norton met with mikhael's another or hidden side...werewolf!
The story will be ended with an indication that a group of illegal immigrants actually planned to fight back with the vampires & vampire feasted authority with the help of an army of werewolves who 'unintentionally' helped some of them to become the members of their clan.
Director:michael dougherty (trick r' treat)
cast: Roman (henry czerny), mikhael (naveen andrews), norton (shea whigham) , john (tony todd).

The Protection:
For the 7thh time in life Forlan very..very luckily escapes certain accident where many people already died unfortunately. Like today after the office hour when he & his colleagues were waiting for the elevator in the 18th floor of their office building then suddenly his case broke down with no apparent reason & he missed the lift while most of the others died in a horrible accident as the lift crash down in the ground. Forlan was shocked as he can still clearly remember the same type of incidents occurred in his life. Like the time at the massive bridge accident of L.A. when he couldn't get to it as one of the tires got punctured just before the bridge in the road. Or he was the only guest that night who couldn't go into a big corporate party in a hotel as he forget to bring his invitation card with him but later the whole floor burned down for a cylinder leak in the kitchen and everyone died.
Forlan was totally devastated. So his father came to see after long time & finally revealed their family secrets of being his so lucky in all these years.
It was a group of Jinns who protected them all these years from all sorts of accidents. Forlan's father Fredrick claims that in many years ago while he was visiting India he saved a religious man from a road accident. That man turned out to be a powerful Pir who in return assigns a good bunch of Jinns to protect Fredric's family for next 50 years from any accidents & dangers. But in return Fredrick & his coming generations have to marry Pir's any widowed female descendants. And then Fredrick married to one of his beautiful daughters who was widowed and Forlan was actually son of Fredrick's that 1st wife (who died at his birth) before marrying with Cathy in the States who Forlan used to know as his real mother. So Fredrick requested Forlan to go to India marry a girl named Sultana who is last living descendant of that Pir but unfortunately become widowed as she had a marriage in childhood but lost the husband in cholera after some years of marriage.
Forlan refused to believe Fredric's story & denied his proposal of getting married to an unknown woman. Moreover he told him that he has a girlfriend (Barbara) now and he's already committed to her.
Fredrick blasted out as saying then the protection will be lifted the & the JINNS will turn up against them. Forlan again refuses to believe his fairy tales like stories & threaten to send him to a doctor for mental check up.

Then in the end one fine day of their honeymoon Forlan & Barbara face their worst possible fate by a very silly & weird accident.

Director: Andrew Currie (Fido)
Cast: Fredrick (Udo Kier), Forlan (Sendhil Ramamurthy), & Emmanuelle Vaugier.

This is what esteemed Judge had to say in his verdict...

"I can see Samantha's Grave coming out as an OK dark comedy.
The Mute Girl could have it's creepy moments.
The Illegal Immigrant story doesn't seem that interesting, but if planned out well enough what basically boils down to a vampire - werewolf fight could be entertaining.
The Protection is just like the others.. plain and simple, not a lot there but potentially entertaining. I don't see international box office success, but maybe some internet buzz around places like HDC could propel the DVD a bit.

Middle of the the road. I give it a 6/10."

So Roshiq, you have scored a pretty decent score for your long effort. Good show. You also win a SHOTGUN WITH FIVE SHELLS!

Congrats.

Also, as Michelle pointed out, she would be on the road till Sunday with her laptop so I don't think she might have the time to send in her originally planned entry. Regardless, since the honorable Judges have decided to give her another chance, I will give her 24 hours. At the end of that, we will go into the Zone outing.

TWO Finalists have blasted their targets...ONE remains.

And I have a special message from Michelle (recorded via Satellite feed) -

Hi V!!

I would like to say thank you to you and the judges for a second chance but I stand by my original entry as I had said that it was enough time to do the challenge, and honestly this is the first time since my last posting that I have even gotten on here, but yes as I had also said when I get a chance to sit and iron out kinks I'll send it in just for a read hopefully next week when I'm back home, and not jumping from place to place! Makes life a bit hectic at the moment! ~S~

And on a side note...I'm sooo looking forward to going home!! I should be there by sunday night!! YAY!!!

Looks like all's well that ends well, esteemed Judges. She has gracefully accepted her outcome of this Challenge.

The Timeline inside The Zone

ROSHIQ strode into Sector D, straight at where STRAKER was dodging behind a clump of trees and blasted him with ALL FIVE Shotgun shots!

BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!

Straker survived this brutal onslaught by grabbing at his HPs backpack. Fortunately he had enough.

MICHELLE heard the loud echoes of the blasts from the Shotgun in the distance. She was in Sector B and moved cautiously forward, feeling through the bushes and leaves. All of a sudden she stopped and went on one knee, looking forward with a very still head. She slowly lifted her Sniper rifle, and zoomed in straight ahead.

...at ROSHIQ!

SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!! SHIKT!!!

15 Sniper bullets thumped into Roshiq's body one after the other. He was bleeding profusely from all over his body - back, shoulders, chest, limbs, all of them had taken a battering. He slowly slumped backwards into the forest floor, fighting back huge waves of immense, searing pain from each of the wounds and complete drowsiness. His hands pulled feebly at his HPs backpack as his mind fought off complete blackness strongly again and again.

Roshiq showed a lot of grit fighting back an imminent death. He healed himself up the best he could, and USED UP ALL HIS HPs!!

STRAKER sat quietly, gathering deep breaths. He was caught off-guard by Roshiq who had blasted him five times and left him a bleeding, bloody torn mess. He took a lot of time healing himself, as he had dragged himself behind some trees away from sight. As soon as he felt better, he limped up and clumsily walked forward into Sector A, where he caught sight of Michelle moving away from him, humming a tune to herself with a smug smile. Straker licked his lips, and lifted his shotgun immediately.

BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!

Michelle stumbled to an abrupt stop, startled. The shells tore into her body mercilessly as she was thrown back with more shots ripping through her chest and stomach. She fell heavily backwards and started hyper-ventilating, a huge rush of fresh sweat breaking over her forehead and face. She gasped loudly as the hot, pulsating blood ran out of her open wounds across her body in long, crimson streaks. She grabbed at her HPs in wild desperation, as Straker dropped the empty Shotgun noiselessly.

The Chainer growled and grunted at the distant noises of the shots. It roamed aimlessly in Sector C, which none of the 3 Finalists had picked.

That concludes the Zone outing.

All 3 Finalists are led into the Medic Center for further treatments.

Let's have a look at the updated statuses...

You 3 have envelopes bearing your names in front of you. I shall open them one by one and recite the contents to each of you :-

STRAKER - Ed Wood is widely considered to be one of the worst filmmakers to ever walk the Earth, but there is no question that he was also one of the most passionate. He had no resources, less money, few connections and blessed little experience - but against all odds, he still made movies, for no reason other than that it was what he loved to do more than anything in the world.
Which modern filmmaker would you say best encapsulates the spirit of Ed Wood?
To whom, in recent years, would you award the "Edward D. Wood Jr. Memorial Award of Excellence"?

ROSHIQ - Find a film made by Monogram or Republic between 1932 and 1949. Update it. Change the plot slightly, recast it with contemporary actors and choose a new contemporary director.

MICHELLE - Choose any three of the following under-appreciated character actors and recast each of them as the lead in a popular/acclaimed film. Explain why you made your choice.
For example:
"I think Tom Conway would have made a great Willy Wonka because..."

Elisha Cook
Michael Ripper
Mantan Moreland
Skelton Knaggs
Dwight Frye
Ray Sager
Dick Miller

A lot of thought and research needs to go into each of the answers to these questions.

Because of that, your answers will carry PLENTY OF BONUSES. Each point scored by you, out of 10, WILL AMOUNT TO A HEALTH PACK! Which means, 5 Judges will be judging your entries and giving you marks out of 10, which will amount to a MAXIMUM of 50 HEALTH PACKS EACH IN THIS CHALLENGE'S BONUS!

All THREE of you have plenty of time too, till Sunday, Noon EST to send your answers via PM to me, which is a little over 69 HOURS FROM NOW!
So don't be hasty in sending off an answer this time. Take the Bonus into consideration and put some thought and research into your answers.

Your answers will then be sent off via PMs by me to ALL FIVE Judges who will analyse, evaluate, and award you points on a scale of 0-10. Beware, if you score below 5, you are liable to be PUNISHED by the same honorable Judge who has awarded you those below 5 points-score.

All the best, Finalists!

I would like to make a request....

Can we just remove the Chainer at this stage, or at least certainly for the final two. It's gonna be such a downer to end the game with the chainer taking out the final survivors, in my opinion. Just up the weapon damage. I'm more than happy to get blasted out the game at any point, I just would rather get taken out due to being outpeformed in the challenges or out thought in the zone than randomly having a chainer drop on my head. I guess its been that way from the start so I don't want to look like I'm just bitching, just don't want to see the game end with a couple of random chainer kills, this deep in.

If anybody gets above an 8, I will shoot the Chainer. Whether it works or not, it's up to V.

My mistake. Please check the Challenge again.

And as regards the Chainer, its imperative to BR III that he be a part of this Round of 3 Zone outing. His presence/absence in the Final Two Standing depends on this.

Don't worry Straker, unlike the previous rounds, you all have 1 extra Sector to aid your luck. It favored you in the last Hunt...maybe it will favor you in this one too.

Plus, don't you want to take the Chainer out? ;)

The Unforgettable Dr. Phibes (alternative title: The Legacy of Dr. Phibes)

HDC BATTLE ROYALE III ROUND OF THREE #2 - THE VERDICTS

The first reply, came from Finalist Straker.

"Ed Wood is widely considered to be one of the worst filmmakers to ever walk the Earth, but there is no question that he was also one of the most passionate.
Wood Jr. Memorial Award of Excellence?"

In order to truly capture the essence of Ed Wood and find a director worthy of the Edward D. Wood memorial Award I have chosen to look for a director who has shown a life long commitment to the craft and one whom best embodies the passion, flair and dedication of Ed Wood.

The director I have chosen began his journey towards this award back in the early 70’s and has added to his canon of work throughout his lifetime and continues to demonstrate his passion and love for the industry to the present day. In one of his earliest films, the blaxploitation classic, Black Caeser, he showed he had the flair, passion and ingenuity to follow in the footsteps of Ed Wood and hold true to the essence of his appeal.

Throughout his career, the director held true to the ideology and appeal associated with Wood, offering up his own brand of creative filmmaking. Writing, Directing and Producing inventive and entertaining movies such as:

The Stuff (writer/ director)
Maniac Cop (writer)
A Return to Salem’s Lot (writer/ director)
It’s Alive (writer/ producer/ director)
Original Gangstas (Director)
Phone Booth (writer)

Along with many more…

Of course, the award goes to Larry Cohen who’s long career, spanning 4 decades and still going, has personified the passion and flair of Ed Wood. Often working on low budgets Cohen has remained focused and has driven his long career on the desire to create. There is a sense of passion and flair running through his career which embodies the spirit and appeal of Wood, making him a worthy and deserving winner of the award.

This is what the honorable Judges had to say in their verdicts...

Judge RETURN - "5 points on the dot. I've got no issue with his choice, but I would have liked a more in depth response.
No punishment from me, but also no reward."

Judge DOC FAUSTUS - "Compared to Wood's circumstances, the streets have been paved with gold for Larry Cohen. He's had some good successes, worked with excellent, not desperate actors and produced products that are not quite analogous to Wood's, I believe.
7/10."

Judge NEVERENDING - "A lot of filmmakers have flair, passion and ingenuity. What made Ed Wood stand out was his ineptness. That is why people remember him today, and why so many people find an inspiration in his life- the fact that his passion was blind and overcame his lack of talent. Your presentation completely ignores this aspect of Wood.
I give you 5/10. Small punishment."

Judge ZERO - "I really don't see Larry Cohen as an Ed Wood successor. Wood was a bizarre director with strange festishes and an anarchic sense of plotting (virtually absent in most of his films). Cohen is a low budget director and maybe exploitative, but I don't think he's nearly as adventurous (or misguided) enough to wear the Wood mantle.

Also, the answer doesn't really give any reason Cohen is the natural recipient of this award. So I found it lacking in justification.
4 out of 10 points. I'm also going to shoot Straker once (assuming I still have my gun)."

Judge AUSTIN316426808 - "Straker - 6/10."

So Straker, you have scored an above-par score for your effort. You have also been SHOT TWICE Standard style by the Judges' Hand Cannons, once each by Judges Neverending and Zero.

Your score -

Judge Return - 05/10
Judge Doc Faustus - 07/10
Judge Neverending - 05/10 (Standard shot)
Judge Zero - 04/10 (Standard shot)
Judge Austin - 06/10

----------------------------

TOTAL - 27/50

----------------------------

That equates to 27 BONUS Health Packs for you Straker, out of which 10 are used up immediately to heal up the injuries by the Judges' punishment.

You gain 17 HPs, alongwith a .357 Magnum with SIX bullets to use in the subsequent Zone outing. Also, you are given a small, carefully wrapped parcel too, the contents of which we will see after the Verdicts are posted.

Let's move on to Michelle's verdicts...

_____V_____
08-04-2010, 03:48 AM
HDC BATTLE ROYALE III ROUND OF THREE #2 - THE VERDICTS

The second reply, came from Finalist Michelle.

"Choose any three of the following under-appreciated character actors and recast each of them as the lead in a popular/acclaimed film. Explain why you made your choice.
For example:
"I think Tom Conway would have made a great Willy Wonka because..."

Elisha Cook
Michael Ripper
Mantan Moreland
Skelton Knaggs
Dwight Frye
Ray Sager
Dick Miller"

For the Actors I chose...Mantan Moreland, Skelton Knaggs and Dwight Frye

I think Mantan Moreland would have made a great Wallace 'Wally' Karue in 'See no Evil, Hear No Evil' because..
Mantan was a cocky comedian, who had a cackling laugh and buldging eyes and who could be jittery at the same time. This movie seems fitting as he would have taken on Richard Pryors character of 'Wally' a blind man, along side Gene Wilder's character of 'Dave' a deaf man. Mantan had teamed up with other comedians while still alive to keep his career alive so to speak. Mantan had a great talent for making people laugh, which is why I think he would have done very very well in this roll.

I think Skelton Knaggs would have made a great 'Herbert West' because ....
Skelton was known as the soft spoken creepy guy, he often played sinsiter roles. Skelton was an odd looking fellow, who also just looked like the 'mad scientist' type. This role was chosen more from a 'gut feeling' than for any other reason, the first picture online that I saw of Skelton the character of 'Herbert West' just jumped at me.

I think Dwight Frye would have made a great Castor Troy/ Sean Archer in 'Face Off' because.....
Dwight was an extremely versatile actor even though most of his work was uncredited, he specialized in protraying mentally disturbed characters. With being the type of actor he was, to play a character like Castor Troy/Sean Archer it takes talent as for one half (Castor Troy) is a crazy powerful criminal killer, and the other half (Sean Archer) is a heart broken government agent trying not only to bring this killer to justice but also to avenge the death of his son.

This is what the honorable Judges had to say in their verdicts...

Judge RETURN - "Her choices show a lack of familiarity with the performers and failure to properly research them.
I'll give her 3 points and a very heavy punishment."

Judge DOC FAUSTUS - "The first and third answers were pretty interesting, especially what was done with Dwight Frye, but I felt Re-animator was kind of an easy solution for Skelton Knaggs.
I give Michelle a 7.5."

Judge NEVERENDING - "Good choices. Well thought out. I could see each actor in the parts you cast them in.
8/10. Reward."

Judge ZERO - "I thought the Mantan Moreland part was inspired and liked the idea of Dwight Frye in Face/Off. That said, I thought Skelton was too easy a choice. The great thing about Jeff Combs is he DOESN'T look like stereotypical mad scientist. Skelton does look just like we'd expect which, I think, loses something.
7.5 out of 10. No reward and no punishment."

Judge AUSTIN316426808 - "Michelle - 5/10."

So Michelle, you have scored a decent score for your effort. You have also been SHOT ONCE Spreadshot style by the Judge Return's Hand Cannon, but also AWARDED by Judge Neverending.

Sorry, and congrats.

Your score -

Judge Return - 03/10 (Spreadshot shot)
Judge Doc Faustus - 07.5/10
Judge Neverending - 08/10 (*REWARD*)
Judge Zero - 07.5/10
Judge Austin - 05/10

----------------------------

TOTAL - 31/50

----------------------------

That equates to 31 BONUS Health Packs for you Michelle, out of which 10 are used up immediately to heal up the injuries by the Judge Return's punishment.

You gain 21 HPs, and your reward from Judge Neverending is a PLASMA CANNON WITH 10 BOLTS! You also get a SHOTGUN with TEN bullets to use in the subsequent Zone outing.
Also, you are given a small, carefully wrapped parcel too, the contents of which we will see after the Verdicts are posted.

Let's move on to Roshiq's verdicts...

_____V_____
08-04-2010, 03:58 AM
HDC BATTLE ROYALE III ROUND OF THREE #2 - THE VERDICTS

The final reply, came from Finalist Roshiq.

"Find a film made by Monogram or Republic between 1932 and 1949. Update it. Change the plot slightly, recast it with contemporary actors and choose a new contemporary director."

In its successive period of more than 20 years Monogram considered a leader among the smaller studios (Poverty Row) that able to established the idea "When the Monogram logo appeared on the screen, everyone knew they were in for action and adventure". It produced and released nearly 1,000 genre films, such as Westerns, serials, comedy shorts, and melodramas, between 1931 and 1953. The studio also produced a number of memorable horror films, ten of them starring Bela Lugosi, including The Ape Man (1943), Invisible Ghost (1941), King of the Zombies (1941), and Voodoo Man (1944). Lugosis frequent co-star, Boris Karloff, also appeared in six films for Monogram, including Mr. Wong, Detective (1938) and The Fatal Hour (1940).
Among its variety of films as an ardent fan of classic horror films I picked studio's the 1946 horror film THE FACE OF MARBLE (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038514/) in response to the specified challenge/question.

The New Title: THE VOODOO VENGEANCE

Now it's better to start with a intro of the original film to know more about the story and making the necessary changes for the required update:
Charles Randolph is an aged medical researcher, who has recently moved to an isolated mansion somewhere on the Atlantic coast in search of the privacy he needs to complete his latest project. With the help of a young doctor, one David Cochran; they are working to develop a way to restore life to dead tissue, more precisely to restore the recently dead (as in, a couple of hours or less) to life.
The introduction to Randolphs work in the film comes late one night when he and Cochran bring into their lab the body of a drowned sailor whose ship seems to have been lost in the storm raging just off the coast. Randolphs butler, Shadrach sees the two men sneaking the corpse inside the mansion.

Changes:
[1] The Butler character will appear with the name 'Russo' and Belga Lugosi will be in charge of that role. Russo, the butler will be the lone provider of the necessary corpses for Randolph's experiment. In this version of the movie Randolph & Cochran will not be engaged in that sort of activity (bringing corpses inside the mansion). Russo is a very devoted & royal servant of Dr. Randolph who think himself as a master in the voodoo business for his some earlier experience & knowledge in that particular trade (where in the original film the maid Maria got that attribute; her character will be very less significant in this version & will be appear in very few scene).
[2] More importantly one of the major changes will be the experiment or the research that Dr. Randolph & Cochran are conducting will be shown less significantly means...without a significant or any success or you can say with a practical point of view...more precisely, there will be no kind of 'resurrection happening' (like shown in the Face of Marble) in this version; the one or few attempt(s) of resurrection will outcome failure but Randolph will be hopeful & madly determined about the project. Though their whole research thing would be appear kinda meaningless but instead of leaving Randolph, Cochran is still working with him just to stay close to his old town/high school crush Elaine...Dr. Randolph's wife! That means there will be no character of Cochran's girlfriend Linda Sinclair in this film which was in the original.
[3] In this updated/changes version the character of Elaine will come with some negative attributes or evil intentions. As she married to old aged/quite elder Dr. Randolph just cause of his wealth/money. But like in the original film here we can also see her fall for Cochran as she thinks who really does seem to be a more logical match for her than the older, more driven Dr. Randolph.
[4] So it'll be no late when both Elaine & Cochran know each others feelings & intentions and the twists of the story will mainly starts at that point. But the more crucial point here is butler Russo will also come to know about their secret meeting(s) as he heard their conversations one night. He get stunned by hearing the idea from Elaine about even somehow killing the Doctor, inherent his properties & then runaway with Cochran. Although Cochran highly objects that idea of conspiracy & killing but Russo in the meantime already determined that he can't let any of those happen as long as he's alive & serving for his master Dr. Randolph. Then we also came to know from Russo (as he's like talking to himself) that he's already extremely devoted to his master, and never hesitates to practice his strange island magic like he believes that last time he wished & spelled his master to get married with an young & beautiful lady which he at least thinks results Randolph's marriage with Elaine.
[5] Like in the original film the character of a police detective called Inspector Peter Norton will be quite same & also appear in this version in the same way...as Russo is collecting corpses from graveyards or other unknown sources, Inspector one day stops by to talk to Randolph when he wasn't at the mansion. Although he may tell Russo & Elaine that it’s just a social call (he and her husband are old friends), and indeed, when he gets in touch with Randolph later, it turns out that Norton has found himself in the difficult position of having to investigate his old pal for murder & stealing dead bodies.
[6] Here I like to also clarify that there will be no character of or place for the Dead/resurrected dog Brutus in this version (the dog ridiculously came back to life with the ability to pass through any solid matter in the original film!).
[7] Now let's go back to the action/main storyline where Russo is now about to take advance revenge for his master as he knows Cochran & Elaine are betraying him. So one late midnight Russo whips up some kind of voodoo nerve gas potion into the lab where he thought Cochran is working. But he has miscalculated (You can see here some similarities with the original film where the scheming maid plans to get rid of the girlfriend of Cochran when she came for a visit in the mansion). Though normally Cochran works or runs some tests alone for Dr. Randolph in late at night but Russo didn't know or noticed instead of Cochran, Dr. Randolph was working late in the lab that night. Thus it is Randolph who is working in the lab when Russo’s lethally effective gas-bomb goes off and the doctor dies. His dead body then discovered by Cochran just after the incident as he comes to the lab to tell Randolph he's no more willing to work in his project. But as he find his bead body he screamed & start calling everyone. Then after few moments Russo comes to the lab & he get totally shocked & mad as he sees that his plan went totally wrong. The devastated Russo then revealed his actual intentions & plan (as he starts to tell) to Cochran. After hearing that Cochran get worried for Elaine & asks Russo whether he has done anything to her. Russo then tells him (with having kinda evil/mad smile in his face) she is already at the top of cliff just next to their mansion as he has already hypnotized her to get jump from the cliff.
Cochran then run for her to save her from the accident while treating (& give a little punch on his face) Russo that he'll be apprehended soon by the police. Cochran able to save Elaine through some moment of tensed "cliff-hanging" situation.

At the very beginning of the film it'll start with a monologue of butler Russo about how he's so much grateful to his master and at the end we'll see that he's actually telling this whole story at the police station to the Inspector Peter Norton which means at the end he really get apprehended by the police.

Production info:
The title: The Voodoo Vengeance

Director: Edgar Georg Ulmer (The Black Cat-1934)

Cast:
George Zucco as Dr. Charles Randolph
Kent Smith as Dr. David Cochran
Anna Lee as Elaine Randolph
Tom Conway as Inspector Peter Norton
Bela Lugosi as Russo
(At the beginning, I thought Karloff & later Claude Rains for the role of Dr. Randolph but as the character provide nothing significant in the climax rather than die...which I think wouldn't be appropriate for actors with such great reputations like Karloff & Rains had at that time.)

Producer: Sam Katzman
Story editor & on a special panel of advisers: Val Lewton & Jacques Tourneur.

-->THE END<--

Special Note regarding the involvement of Val Lewton & Jacques Tourneur into the film as advisers on a special panel: Though as far I know both Lewton & Tourneur were actually worked for RKO films but in this case for the very first time they could make a difference under special consideration/request for/from the studio; which they can use in their promotional/advertising campaign/Trailers of the film before the release.
Or the entire involvement issue may be remain unknown to the public/press at the time of its release but several years later from an interview of one of the crew members of this film it'd get revealed.

This is what the honorable Judges had to say in their verdicts...

Judge RETURN - "I'm torn - wonderfully detailed, engrossing response...but not what the question was asking for (if I've interpreted it correctly).
I'll be lenient as it was obvious that he put a foolish amount of work into his response.
6 points, small reward."

Judge DOC FAUSTUS - "I'm going to take some points away because you did not read the question correctly: I said contemporary. While your treatment makes use of their contemporaries and Monogram actors, it does not use our contemporaries, which was the point of the question. Perhaps I phrased it wrong. I think either way this is an okay treatment, but changing a Monogram film into a Lewton film is a sort of condescending approach to the material.
4/10. No penalty for misinterpreting the question, but...bang.
(Firing the smallest gun)"

Judge NEVERENDING - "While you provided a typically well thought out and creative answer, it was an answer to the wrong question.
Much as it pains me, I have to give you a 5/10. Small punishment."

Judge ZERO - "I would have given 10 out of 10 since this was a very well thought out answer. But, Roshiq clearly misread the question by thinking 'contemporary' meant contemporary to then and not contemporary to now. Normally I'd just call this semantics and go with it but the question did clearly say 'update' which suggests a future-oriented timeline and, thereby, Roshiq gets docked points.
I'll also shoot him once just for wasting such a good answer on the wrong question.
6 out of 10."

Judge AUSTIN316426808 - "Roshiq - 6.5/10."

So Roshiq, you have scored a just about average score for your effort. You have also been SHOT THREE TIMES Standard style by the Judges' Hand Cannons, once each by Judges Doc Faustus, Neverending and Zero. But you have also received a small reward from Judge Return for your efforts.

Sorry, and congrats.

Your score -

Judge Return - 06/10 (*SMALL REWARD*)
Judge Doc Faustus - 04/10 (Standard shot)
Judge Neverending - 05/10 (Standard shot)
Judge Zero - 06/10 (Standard shot)
Judge Austin - 06.5/10

----------------------------

TOTAL - 27.5/50

----------------------------

That equates to 27 BONUS Health Packs for you too Roshiq, out of which 15 are used up immediately to heal up the multiple injuries by the Judges' punishment.

You gain 12 HPs, and your reward from Judge Return is a SHOTGUN with FOUR Shells! You also win a .357 Magnum with SIX bullets to use in the subsequent Zone outing.

Also, you are given a small, carefully wrapped parcel too, the contents of which we will see in a bit...

At a first glance I actually got it right but then I thought then the question should be simple..."Remake a film made by Monogram or Republic between 1932 and 1949." Now I guess that was the tricky part for me. :(

But I completely agree with the verdict and it was clearly a terribly stupid mistake by me, I should have asked for the clarification. My bad...very bad(...at the moment I'm in extreme urge to shoot myself with my new .357 Magnum.).

Anyway, thanks a lot to the judges, that's really very kind of them for still giving me very decent amount of scores overall for my very flawed effort.

Darn! I did exactly like Russo (as he got completely wrong about who's in the lab that night)!

CONTENTS OF THE PARCEL

All 3 Finalists have won a small wrapped parcel each. The contents of it will remain undisclosed till NOON EST tomorrow.

They can be opened, but ONLY IN A CONTAINED ENVIRONMENT!

You have 3 chambers open in front of you. All 3 Chambers are empty and dry, but will fill up with something once you place your winning parcels inside them. Whether the contents of your winning parcel will be able to survive inside the Chamber when they unlock remains to be seen.

The Chambers have been marked as - A, F and W.

Simply select a Chamber to place your parcel in and send it in a PM to me before NOON EST tomorrow. Your PM should read - "I would like to place my parcel inside Chamber (A, F or W, as per your choice)."

Then we will unwrap them and proceed to the Hunting Zone outing immediately afterwards.

Good luck, Finalists. I hope each one of you makes the right choice.

THE MYSTERIOUS PARCEL

Finalist Straker went first and placed his parcel inside Chamber F.

The chamber door sealed shut and as soon as it clicked shut, the chamber was instantly engulfed in a ROARING FIRE!!!

The fire blazed inside the Chamber for a long while, and nothing could be seen inside it except a very bright orange and reddish hue everywhere. Then slowly, the fire died down till it was no more.

The paper wrapping of the parcel had burnt into ashes and thin air. All that was left in the center of the chamber, was a dark-red burning sphere suspended in mid-air!

http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i283/dragolux/fireball.jpg

The chamber door slid open, and Straker was asked to put his right hand inside the chamber. Nervously, Straker stretched his hand out. The crimson-red burning sphere blazed brightly for a second, before swinging over Straker's right hand!

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii270/CrystalDearheart/Fireball.jpg

Congratulations, Straker! You are now the proud owner of the FIREBALL, a unique spell which will help you combat your enemies everytime you are in trouble. Be forewarned however, that everytime you use the FIREBALL anywhere, you will lose 10 of your own HPs!!!

Yes it is a great power to wield, but at a price. Be mindful.

Finalist Roshiq walked forward and placed his parcel inside Chamber F, long after Straker was gone.

The chamber door sealed shut and the chamber was instantly engulfed in a ROARING FIRE yet again!!!

The fire blazed inside the Chamber for a bit, sparking and fizzling everywhere. Then slowly, the fire started to die down and went out.

The paper wrapping of the parcel was gone, and something was left in the center of the chamber. A rotating burning sphere suspended in mid-air!

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss121/TorturdChaos/fireball.gif

The chamber door slid open, and Roshiq was asked to put his right hand inside the chamber. Gulping once and looking dazed with big drops of perspiration hanging on his forehead, Roshiq stretched his hand out. The angry-red burning sphere blazed very brightly for a second, before swinging over Roshiq's right hand!

http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii270/CrystalDearheart/Fireball.jpg

Congratulations, Roshiq! You are also the proud owner of the FIREBALL, a unique spell which will help you combat your enemies everytime you are in trouble. Remember though, everytime you use the FIREBALL anywhere, you will lose 10 of your own HPs!!!

Power at a price. Discretion advised.

Finalist Michelle went ahead and placed her parcel inside Chamber A.

The chamber door sealed shut and as soon as it clicked shut, the chamber was filled with an instant TORNADO!!!

A cloud formed on the top of the chamber, complete with huge flashes and bolts of lightning, which struck the parcel again and again. They were leaving black burn marks all over the wrapping and suddenly the paper caught fire.

A small piece of what looked like transparent metal instantly disappeared into the harnessed tornado inside the chamber, and a huge flash of lightning thundered inside the chamber continuously!

http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w260/66El68Matto29/lightning.gif

The chamber door slid open, and Michelle was asked to put her right hand inside the chamber. Michelle who was watching everything from outside, was reluctant at first. But she gathered some courage and very hesitantly stretched her hand inside the chamber slowly. The lightning bolt thundered for a second, before swinging right over Michelle's right hand!

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj129/crazyharryNL/zeus-hand-2k.jpg

Congratulations, Michelle! You are now the proud owner of the BOLT, a very unique and rare spell which will help you combat your enemies everytime you are in trouble. Be forewarned however, that everytime you use the BOLT anywhere, you will lose 10 of your own HPs!!!

A wonderful power to have, but at a price to pay. Use it wisely.

THE MIGHTY HDC BATTLE ROYALE III - ROUND OF 3 HUNTING SEASON #2

I am here to address all THREE Finalists again as they stand before the Zone gates minutes before the outing.

Please remember that ALL OF YOU WILL BE HUNTING EACH OTHER!!

Feel free and go ahead and choose your own random targets to kill or cause damage. Remember, you can use your Spell according to your HPs.

BUT...be mindful of something very important. THE CHAINER has been released yet again and it lurks in the Zone somewhere - which is divided into FOUR Areas - W, X, Y & Z.

But, unlike all the other Hunts before this, YOU CAN CHOOSE TO MAKE THE CHAINER A TARGET TOO, IN ADDITION TO YOUR PRIMARY TARGET!

Which means, you may choose TWO targets for yourself - one of which HAS TO BE the Chainer.
Of course, you may go ahead and choose ONE target - a primary target OR the Chainer.
It's your choice.

Finalists, PM me your choice of recipient targets AND choice of the sector in which you will be doing your hunting by Sunday, NOON EST!

FAILURE TO CHOOSE ANY TARGETS OR AN AREA TILL THE DEADLINE WILL AMOUNT TO THAT FINALIST(S) BEING SHOT 17 TIMES BY THE SNIPERS IN THE WATCHTOWERS!!

So, I have a logistics question....

Can we use multiple hits with our special weapons? For example, can I use it 4times this round?

&

If someone gets there targets in before anyone else and kills there target, will they still respond with there attacks or will they already be dead?

Special weapons as in the spell? It depends on your HPs, as indicated in the Zone outing above. Everytime you use it you lose 10 HPs. Do the calculation. :)

Remember that you have to take the possibility into account that someone will attack you too. If you use up your HPs by casting your spell, you might run out of HPs when you are attacked.

The bullets and shells in your guns can be used for multiple targets, according to your discretion.

And if someone gets killed, they won't respond (obviously) and will be dead. Your attacks will be wasted on them.

Anddddddd the time was up about 40 minutes back!!

Let's see what happened inside the Zone...

_____V_____
08-08-2010, 09:42 AM
The Timeline inside The Zone

ROSHIQ went into Area W, and tracked down MICHELLE who was hiding inside a cave!

BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!

Roshiq's shotgun roared. Michelle screamed, then grunted as the shells thudded mercilessly into her body and fresh blood came oozing out of the wounds left by them.

Roshiq didn't stop. Out came the .357 Magnum.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

The bullets thudded straight into Michelle's chest and thighs and she fell back with a deep groan. A feeble, bloody hand stretched out to grab at HPs which she had pulled out to save herself.

Then Roshiq paused. He dropped his now empty Magnum and lifted his right hand and pointed it towards Michelle. His hand was pulsing and throbbing, and almost immediately it started to glow red.

SHHHHHHHHHRRRRRAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKTTTTTTTTTT!!!

The FIREBALL leaped out of Roshiq's hand and thundered straight at Michelle, striking her with all its might. Michelle was thrown backwards in a glowing, burning ember of fire and she immediately caught fire. She yelped and screamed, and rolled herself furiously on the floor to douse the flames which were burning her body to a cinder.

Slowly, the flames died down. All that was left inside the cave was a screaming and yelling Michelle trying to bite into her intense and severe pain-burn sensations which were rocking her body in huge, uncontrollable spasms.

Roshiq's right hand was engulfed in flames too, but he bit his tongue to fight back the burning pain and pulled 10 of his own HPs out. He only had 2 left with him now.

Michelle survived this very brutal onslaught by Roshiq, but had to use up 20 of her HPs.

Roshiq calmly walked away from the cave and disappeared between the trees. Michelle took a long while resting inside the cave and letting her body heal slowly. She then dragged herself out of the cave and slithered slowly towards the nearby trees, then fell across the bushes down the slope. She rolled down and came to a sudden stop with a moan.

She was still in Area W.

Just then, faint footsteps resounded in Michelle's ears. She looked upwards in sudden terror. STRAKER was staring back at her with a sneer, looking over her half-burnt and badly-injured body.

"I see Roshiq's been busy," he commented with a smirk. "I too have a present for you, my dear," he added with a malicious grin as he pulled his .357 Magnum out and pointed it at her.

Michelle's eyes were filled with sudden, welling tears of sheer fear. Straker pulled the trigger repeatedly.

BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!

The bullets thundered into Michelle's body and ripped it again and again. Fresh, hot blood vomited out of the fresh wounds as Michelle merely grunted again and again and her head fell back with a soft thud. Her eyes were closed.

Straker dropped his smoking gun nearby, then took one long look at her. He moved away and walked back from where he had come. Michelle's body was wracked in severe spasms of pain, but now her eyes were open wide, fiery-red and full with a blinding fury.

6 more HPs used to heal, and Michelle lay quietly again. For a long time. Then she grinded her teeth once, and pulled herself up with a loud grunt.

Straker had walked across Area W and had entered Area X. He carefully scanned the trees nearby then sat down near a big rock and pulled a cigarette out. He badly needed a smoke before he proceeded towards the gates.

A soft rustling sound made him jump and turn around almost immediately. A defiant and severely injured Michelle stood there, dragging her right leg closer and standing with her full weight on her left leg. Her hands held her Sniper Rifle close to her, and it was aimed directly at Straker.

Straker licked his lips once, then looked left and right.

"Y'know, I could have fried your ass from a distance with this thing," Michelle's voice came out sounding more like a half-choked croak, "but I wanted you to see what you were getting - a woman's fury."

Straker's eyes widened in sudden, shuddering dread which made his bowels turn to water.

"Hell awaits." Michelle's voice was cracked but sharply resonant.

SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!! SHIKT!!

All 18 sniper bullets riddled Straker's entire body with innumerable holes which went black for 2-3 seconds before small spurts of hot blood came gushing out of them. Straker screamed and fell back, clutching at his HPs.

Michelle dropped her Sniper Rifle and almost immediately pulled her Plasma Cannon out. She was determined not to give Straker even a second to catch his breath.

SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!! SHRAMMM!!

All 10 Plasma Bolts blasted Straker's chest and tummy into smithereens. His entire body was bathed in his own crimson, red-hot blood which spurted out in torrents everywhere as he yelled continuously, now on his back on the floor.

Down went the Plasma Cannon.

Out came the Shotgun.

BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!! BLAM!!!

The shotgun shells roared out and mercilessly ripped into Straker's body, turning it more into a bloody, incomprehensible mess of flesh, bones and blood. No feature of Straker's body was able to discern that it was really Straker under all that mess. His eyes were blazing, more in sheer pain than anything else. His screams resounded everywhere throughout the entire Area. He was spasming badly now, in his last death throes.

Michelle was breathing heavily, her face grim and shining red, her eyes blazing with severe fury. Small pain spasms still wracked her again and again, but she wasn't even aware of them. Her full gaze was on her prey.

She lifted her right hand. The fingers pointed straight at Straker.

Small streaks of lightning illuminated around her outstretched right hand. All of them converged together in the middle of her right palm and formed into a huge lightning BOLT!

Straker's eyes had closed. His body was still convulsing from the imminent death spasms. Michelle's right index finger pointed straight at Straker's head.

BBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTT! !!!!

The Bolt struck Straker's head with all its furious might, and Straker's head blasted into a million pieces! Lumps of flesh and blood flew outwards everywhere and sprayed the rocks nearby, sticking over them in a bloody, gooey mess.

STRAKER IS DEAD!!!!!

Michelle's right hand was left with a long, scarry burn which singed her badly. She winced and groaned and pulled 10 HPs out to patch her right hand up.

The Chainer growled and grunted at these noises, screams and shots in the distance. It roamed around in Area Z, which none of the 3 Finalists had picked.

That concludes the Zone outing.

Michelle and Roshiq are led into the Medic Center for further treatments.

Straker's headless mess of what once used to be his body was scrapped off the rocks and trees by the medics with shovels and picks and they gathered what was left of him into a bag for the Morgue.

HDC BATTLE ROYALE III - THE FINAL STAGES

The TWO surviving Finalists - ROSHIQ & MICHELLE, are led back into The Justice Chamber and asked to sit down.

I address both of you with ONE FINAL common question :-

Select a horror book of your choice which hasn't been adapted to film yet, as the basis of your untitled film project.
Outline a script for it.
Make casting choices, select appropriate locations and a director for your film.
Select soundtracks and a music composer.
Select an appropriate budget for your film, and give it a suitable name.

Ponder over all of your choices and come up with something remarkable, unique and good enough to score decently with the film critics AND at the Box Office.

Remember, you have to impress all 5 Judges also.

Your answers carry PLENTY OF BONUSES again. Each point scored by you, out of 10, WILL AMOUNT TO TWO HEALTH PACKS!

Which means, all 5 Judges will be judging your entries and giving you marks out of 10, which will amount to a MAXIMUM of 100 HEALTH PACKS EACH IN THIS CHALLENGE'S BONUS!

Both of you have plenty of time too, till Thursday, Noon EST to send your answers via PM to me, which is around 70 & HALF HOURS FROM NOW!

Since plenty of time has been given for you to let your creative juices flow for one FINAL time, don't be hasty in sending off an answer. Do your best to outdo your opponent because this will depend on the final outcome of either one of you to be crowned as the Winner.

Your answers will then be sent off via PMs by me to ALL FIVE Judges who will analyse, evaluate, and award you points on a scale of 0-10. Beware, if you score below 5, you are liable to be PUNISHED by the same honorable Judge who has awarded you those below 5 points-score.

All the best, both of you!

I've always pictured Jeremy as Jon Cusack.

Would've never thought of Cusack but now cant really picture anyone else as Jeremy. I think he'd be perfect for "when" it becomes a movie. *Crossing fingers*

Great challenge V. Should get 2 great answers out of it.

When Ive bought the rights and adapted it into a wacky rom/com, I cant see past Sam Rockwell and Sandra Bullock as Jeremy and Cass.

Has your eye started twitching yet?

Well, they'll do the VOICES of them. The characters will be portrayed by CGI bears in glorious 3D.

I always pictured Doc as Jeremy. He looks a lot more like a secret psycho killer than John Cusak.

Cusack is a little old for the character now. I honestly don't know what contemporary actor would work for him. Someone once suggested Ryan Gosling.

Well, he is granted a further extension of another 24 hours, if no Judges object to it.

But surely he deserves some punishment for not honoring the deadline, or not even communicating about wanting some extra time.

[Dream sequence]
Open into a dark bedroom, a man is jarred awake by someone walking into the room and turning on the light.
We see an angry elderly lady moving towards the bed hands hiding behind her back. The man on the bed begins to cower…

Elderly Lady:
(Screams at the man) “GET OUT OF HERE!! YOU DON’T BELONG HERE, GET OUT!!!!!”

Man:
(In a whispering voice) “Please, please love me……”

We see the elderly lady raise an axe high above her head, then the beginning of the axes descent aimed towards the mans head. The axe is shown embedding itself into the elderly lady’s skull. The man is now holding the axe and pulls it out and hacks into her again…..Then starts screaming….

Man:
Screams……………!!!

[Cut to present]

Open to a dark bedroom, we see a man screaming in his sleep, his wife flips on the bedside lamp to wake him.

Man:
Screaming in his sleep…

Wife:
(sleepily) “Wake up Kevin!” {Gently shakes Kevin.} “For God’s sake wake up, your having a nightmare.”

Kevin:
(Shaky voice) “Oh Anne, Anne…” {looks around the bedroom}
(Relief audible in his voice) “It was only a nightmare, she’s not here…she’s not trying to kill me….and I didn’t kill her..”

Anne:
(Confused) “What? Of course not Kev, you had a nightmare, Who, who are you so shaken over?”

Kevin:
(Dryly) “My Mother.”

[Fade to black]

Open panning the bedroom we see the Elderly Lady laying in bed and we come to see a homecare nurse dozing in a corner chair.

Elderly Lady:
(Angrily shouts at the nurse) “Wake up! You good for nothing, servant!”

Nurse:
(Calmly) “Now, Now Miss Helena, I wasn’t sleeping, and I’m NOT a servant. Now what is it you need?”

Helena:
(Grabs a glass of water from the nightstand and throws it in the nurses face) “How DARE you speak to me in that tone!! Don’t you ever speak to me like that again! Now where is he? Where is my son? Where is Kevin?”

Nurse:
(Shocked stammers) “I..I d-don’t kn-know.”

Another Lady rushes worriedly into the room..

Lady:
“Mother, MOTHER! What’s wrong?”

Helena:
(Screeches) “KEVIN!!! Where is he? I want him here now! I’m dying and I want my son!!” Helena falls back against her bed exhausted looking weak.

Nurse:
(looks at Helena then at the Lady) “Quick, a glass of water!”

The Lady rushes out of the room while the nurse gets Helena’s medication ready, we see the Lady rush back in and the nurse and Lady administer some pills to Helena. Helena falls back asleep, as the two women leave the bedroom into the hallway.

Lady:
(Worriedly) “Is it true? Is she dying?”

Nurse:
(Calmly) “She could have just now, she needs to stay calm.” (Thinks for a moment then) “I’m sorry but I think it would be best if I leave, Miss Helena needs to be kept calm and I’m really not helping that.”

Lady:
“Well I’m sorry to see you go, and don’t worry I’ll look after Mother, and of course Ruby is here to help as well.”

We see the women walk down the stairs and the Lady lets the Nurse out and begin thinking to herself. Camera pans behind the Lady to look down the main hallway we see an elderly housekeeper poke her head out of a doorway…

Housekeeper:
“What’s wrong Miss Marguerite? Is something the matter with Miss Helena?”

Margurite:
(Startled) “Oh Ruby, There is, mother is asking, well demanding is a better word for Kevin! She says she’s dying and that she wants to see Kevin before she dies.”

Ruby:
(Shocked) “Kevin??.... She hasn’t spoken his name in over 20 years…She wants him here?”

Margurite:
“Yes, Ruby I know. None of us have talked to him for years, I wonder if he’ll come? Perhaps I should call him now.”

Ruby:
“Now that’s nonsense Miss Margurite, of course he’ll come. Kevin is a Devereaux. And don’t worry about calling him, he already knows ‘bout Miss Helena, you just watch and see I bet he calls in the morning.

Ruby turns and walks back the way she came and disappears back into the doorway…Margurite seems lost in thought for a moment then sighs and heads back up the stairs…

[Fade to black]

Open in a kitchen with the morning sun coming thought the window, camera pans the kitchen to rest on the dining table where we see Kevin sitting drinking a coffee. Camera pans to entrance of kitchen, we see a teenage girl come through…

Kevin:
(Surprised) “Mark the calendar, Julie’s out of bed before 7am!!”

Julie:
(groans) “Awh Dad… Look who’s talking!! (laughs) Why are you up so early? I had a nightmare and couldn’t get back to sleep.”

Kevin:
“Looks like we have the same problem, I’m up from a nightmare too.” However seeing as we are both up we could whip up a wicked breakfast for your mom and brother?”

Both go towards the cooking area and start getting food ready…..

Julie:
“So dad why didn’t you ever open up your own restaurant, your so good!! Your better than anyone else!”

Kevin:
“Simple, a restaurant is the fastest way to go broke!”

Julie:
(jokingly) “Well maybe grandma will die and leave you lots of money..”

Kevin:
(Shocked and Angry) “Julie!!! That is not a nice thing to say!”

Julie:
(apologetic) “Awh Dad, I was only joking…”

Kevin:
(Angrily) “Not Funny. Never Never joke about something like that.”

Julie:
(crying now) “I don’t know why your making such a big deal, you hate her. You’ve told us how many times how mean she is and how horrible she is to aunt Margurite.”

Julie runs out of the room crying, Kevin realizes he’s been to hard on her….

Kevin:
“Julie, Julie wait….”

We see Kevin shake his head sadly, he looks over to the clock then picks up the phone, we see him talk on the phone a few shanks and nods of the head later Kevin puts the phone down and heads upstairs to the bedroom.(camera follows) Kevin sits on the edge of the bed and gently wakes Anne.

Kevin:
“Anne…Anne honey wake up please.”

Anne:
“What is it Kevin?”

Kevin:
“We have to go, something’s happened and I have to go back home….”

[Fade out]

Open to the family in the car. Kevin is driving with Anne in the passenger seat, Julie and a young boy are in the back seat.

Young boy:
(Whiny voice) “Mom, Are we there yet??”

Julie:
(rolls eyes) “Gees, Jeff, Are you blind? Does it look like we’re there yet?”

Anne:
“Enough you two!! Julie there is no need to be rude to your brother. And Jeff, no we are not there yet. We still have about 10 minutes to go.”

Jeff:
“How come we’ve never come here before?”

Julie:
(dryly) “Because dad hates grandma..”

Anne:
(Quickly looks at Kevin then at the kids) “That’s not it. It’s just that it is a very far from Connecticut, and we haven’t had the time.”

We see a road sign pass that reads ‘Devereaux 10 miles’

Jeff:
(Amazed) “Holy Cow Dad!! The whole town is named after you!!”

Kevin:
(Chuckles) “It’s not named after me, but after my family, and it’s not much of a town. You’ll see that in a minute.”

We see the car pull over at the top of a hill and everyone gets out. As we look down the hill we see what looks to be almost a ghost town, old run down shops with nothing more than what looks like a bunch of shacks for housing.

Anne:
“Oh my god Kevin, what happened to this town? If it were not for the car’s I’d say the town was deserted.”

Jeff:
(disappointed) “That’s it??”

Julie:
‘Which one is your house dad?”

Kevin:
(sighs) “Well, from what I’ve been told it used to be a nice town, before my father’s time most likely, before the land for the cotton plantations wore out. And if you would all look out to that island over there, (points) that is Sea Oaks, that’s where I grew up.”

The camera pans to the left and focuses on a small island with a run down looking massive house in the center of it.

Julie:
(wide eyed) “It’s a mansion!!”

Kevin:
“ It’s not a mansion just a overly large house, that looks like it’s about to fall down any minute…”

Jeff:
“WOW!!! Grandma owns a WHOLE island?? All of it??

Kevin:
(Chuckles) “Yup! All of it and don’t you dare say you have nothing to do once we get there!!” (chuckles again and ruffles Jeff’s hair)

We see the family get back into the car and the car begins to move toward the town.

[Fade out]

Open in a ballroom, we see Marguerite and 5 teenage girls all in ballet gear wrapping up a lesson.

Marguerite:
“That will be all for today girls, and I must apologize to all of you for my behavior today you see my brother is coming and I haven’t seen him for a very long time, so I have been quite distracted today. I promise I will make it up to all of you next class.”

We hear a buzzer sound and Marguerite starts slowly towards the door. We see the girls walk with her down 3 flights of stairs to the main entrance.

Girl #1:
“Does you’re brother have any children?”

Marguerite:
(smiles) “Well Jenny, he has a girl about your age and a boy that’s about 8 now. I bet you were hoping for a boy your age weren’t you?”

Jenny:
(blushes but says nothing)

Marguerite:
(chuckles) “Don’t try to fool me, I remember being your age, and even then there weren’t many boys around here.”

Jenny:
“I bet you could have had any boy you wanted Miss Marguerite!”

Marguerite:
“I won’t say I couldn’t, however after my hip went from the accident so did the boys. It’s funny what a limp can do to a person.”

Jenny:
(gasps)

Marguerite:
(laughs) “Well its not so bad, if I hadn’t had the accident, I wouldn’t be hear teaching all of you girls!”

Jenny:
“Well Miss Marguerite, I should go, thank you, and I’ll see you next time.

We see Jenny and the other 4 girls all wave and walk off down the highway. Marguerite closes the door and turns back towards the stairs… Camera cuts to Helena’s bedroom, Where we see Helena sitting in bed and Ruby, gathering a lunch tray, when Marguerite enters the room.
Helena:
(angrily shouts at Marguerite) “Where is he? Where is Kevin I want him.”

Ruby:
“Now Miss Helena, I’ve already told you, Mr. Kevin will get here when he gets here.”

We see Helena’s face turn red from anger, she looks as though she’s about to yell at Ruby when we hear a car horn sound. Helena quickly tries to get out of bed…

Helena:
“Quick help me get out of this bed, Marguerite my black dress quickly now. Kevin has finally come home, and everything is how it should be. ”

Ruby:
“Kevin is not home for good Miss Helena, he is only here for a visit, now don’t you go forgettin’ that.”

Helena:
“Watch your tongue Ruby, Kevin is home and I want him to stay and he will stay here!”

We see Ruby& Marguerite exchange confused looks then Ruby helps a frail looking Helena out of the bed and get her seated at the vanity, as Marguerite rushes into the closet for the black dress and helps Helena into it. Helena starts to style her hair & make-up…By time she is done trying to turn herself into a young women again she is an absolute fright.

Helena:
“How do I look?”

Marguerite:
(gasps)

Ruby:
“You look fine, Miss Helena.”

Helena:
“Good, then I’m ready to go downstairs.”

Ruby:
(shocked)“Downstairs!! Miss Helena I don’t think…”

Helena:
(cuts Ruby off) “I didn’t ask what you think. I told you I’m ready to go downstairs, to greet my son.”

We see Ruby and Marguerite help Helena out of the room and get her settled into an old chair lift at the top of the stairway.

[cut to the front drive]

We see Kevin and family pull up in front of the massive house, and get out of the car everyone but Kevin looking at the house with a mix of awh and disgust.

Kevin:
“So this is it, may as well see how it looks on the inside.”

Kevin leads his family to the front door, Opens it wide and walks in, we hear the chairlift coming down the stairs which makes everyone stop and stare at the stairway…and watch the slow descent of Helena coming into full view before stopping at the bottom of the stairs.

Helena:
(Looks over Anne) “So you’re the women who married my son? Well there’s nothing that can change that now. (looks over the children) The girl is a Devereaux, as for the boy…”

Anne:
(speaks up) “His name is Jeff and he is as much a Devereaux as Julie is.

[Fade out]

We see the Julie and Jeff walking along a path out behind the house chatting along when they come across a boy about Jeffs age walking towards them on the pathway.

Boy:
“Who are you guys?”

Jeff:
“I’m Jeff Devereaux, that my sister Julie, Who are you?”

Toby:
“I’m Toby Martin, Don’t tell that I was here k?, I don’t want to get in trouble.”

Jeff:
“Who would be mad at you for being here?”

Toby:
“Miss Helena…She doesn’t like anyone to be here, but the island has the best beach around here, so sometime I sneak out here to go swimming and stuff.”

Marguerite:
(from behind the children) “Toby you shouldn’t sneak around like that, so how about next time you come out, you march right up to the door and if Jeff invites you, you can stay.”

Toby:
“Really Miss Marguerite, do you mean it?”

Marguerite:
“Of course, now off with you for today, Jeff will be here tomorrow.”

Toby:
“Ok, I’ll come by tomorrow Jeff!!” (Toby runs off past the house and across the causeway.)

Marguerite, Julie and Jeff all start to head towards the house.

Julie:
“Aunt Marguerite, Why won’t grandmother let anyone use the beach?”

Marguerite:
“Because that’s the way Mother is, but it won’t be that way much longer.”

Jeff:
“Why not?”
Marguerite:
“Because Mother dying, then things will change.”

Julie:
“Don’t you care if your mother dies?”

Marguerite:
“Yes Julie, I care, I care very much.”

[Fade out]

Open to the dining room, we see Kevin, Anne, Julie, Jeff and Marguerite sitting around the table eating dinner, we hear a buzzer go off, and Marguerite gets up and leaves the table, a few minutes later she returns to her meal, once again we hear the buzzer go off again and once again Marguerite leaves the table…

Anne:
(to Kevin) “Aren’t you going to say anything dear? You’re mother treats her like a servant. And she must be in pain with her leg like that.”

Kevin:
“It’s not my place to say anything, and besides she’s the one letting mother treat her that way.”

Julie:
“Dad what happened to Aunt Marguerite to cause her to limp that way?”

Kevin:
“It was an accident when I was little, about Jeff’s age. Your aunt had tripped and fallen down the stairs, I don’t remember why but, it was a long time ago and when she recovered she’s walked with that limp since then.” (Kevin smiles at Julie) “She was going to be a dancer you know, and from what I remember she was pretty good too, almost as good as you!” (winks at Julie)

We hear a scream come from upstairs in Helena’s room, then see Kevin and Anne race from the table up to the room to find Marguerite sprawled on the floor with Helena sitting on the bed looking angrily at Marguerite and a cane in her hand.

Kevin:
“What happened here?”

Marguerite:
“Mother said her food was cold.”

Kevin:
(to Marguerite) “What that’s nonsence, you brought it up before we even started.” (looks to Helena, then to the untouched plate of food)(to Helena with anger and disgust) “You didn’t even touch it! You waited until it got cold then called her up here and HIT her with a CANE!”

Helena:
“You watch what you say, you don’t know a thing. You don’t know Marguerite like I do.”

Kevin:
“Oh give it up Mother.” (looks to Marguerite) Come on Marguerite, Ruby can reheat her meal or I can, go finish your dinner.”

Helena:
“Stop. I want her to do it (points at Marguerite) If she wants to spend her life acting like a servant who are you to stop her?”

We see Marguerite struggle to stand up then gather’s her mothers plate and heads out of the room. Kevin and Anne are in shock both shake their heads at what they just witnessed and also leave the room. The camera focuses on Helena who is sitting in her bed with a smug look on her face.

[fade to black]

Open to the ballroom, we see Marguerite getting music ready and her 5 students stretching, Julie enters the room as Marguerite looks up.

Marguerite:
“Girl’s this is my niece Julie, Julie these are my girls, Jenny, Mary-Beth, Tammy-Jo, Allison, and Charlene.(points at each girl) Now Julie how long have you been dancing?”

Julie:
“Seriously dancing for 3 years but I’ve been taking lessons since I was 6”

Marguerite:
(surprised) “So for 9 years then, well in that case you have a solo?”

Julie:
(ponders for a moment then asks) “Do you have the music for ‘West Side Story’?”

Marguerite:
“I do.” (looks through the music and gets it ready in the player) “Let’s see what you can do.”

We hear the music begin and see Julie start to dance, (camera pans over Marguerite and 4 of the girls who are smiling as they watch Julie dance then focuses on Mary-Beth who is looking very angry.)

[Fade to black]

Open to Helena’s bedroom. We see Helena sleeping then is startled awake from a noise in the hall, we see her struggle to get out of bed.

[cut to main floor hallway]

We see Anne reach for a set of keys hanging from a hook then head back up the dark staircase, down a long hallway and come to a doorway she trys the keys until she finds the right one to open the door. We see Anne reach for the light switch and the room fills with light. The room is filled with a destroyed nursery. The camera comes to rest on Helena who is standing in the middle of the room.

Anne:
(shocked and saddened) “I..I don’t understand.”

Helena:
(angrily) “No one asked you to understand, and no one asked you to come to my house.”

Anne:
(still shocked and looking around the room) “But why? Why is it locked?”

Helena:
(shouts) “To keep people like you OUT!”

Helena’s eyes go wide then she crumples to the floor. Anne screams then runs out of the room.

Anne:
“Kevin, Kevin come quick it’s your mother!!”

We see Kevin run into the room followed by Anne, and Marguerite. Kevin kneels at his mothers head trying to make out what she is saying.

Helena:
(croaking whisper) “Kevin… watch…watch out for…. Marguerite…” Helena leans her head back and is gone

Marguerite:
(sobs) “Mama…mama….Noooooo mama, you can’t leave me…..”

[Fade to black]

08-16-2010, 10:58 PM
Open to an office setting, we see Kevin and Anne sitting side by side, Marguerite sitting on another chair and a lawyer sitting behind a desk with a briefcase open. All looking shocked and disgruntled.

Anne:
“That is ridiculous, she couldn’t have left everything to Kevin. What about Marguerite! That’s just not fair or right!!”

Marguerite:
“It’s alright, Anne. I guess I should have known that was coming, everything is always left to the oldest male in the family.”

Kevin:
“It’s ok Marguerite, you can have it all. In a few days we are going back to Connecticut anyway and you can do what you want with the place, sell it or keep it. I don’t care, I don’t want it.”

Lawyer:
“Not so fast Kevin, Helena’s had a stipulation put into her will, and I can’t find a way around it. In fact when I told her I didn’t agree with it she had another lawyer do it up, and its binding in every way.”

Kevin:
“What’s the stipulation?”

Lawyer:
“It states that you must live here at Sea Oaks, if you do not live on the property then the entire estate ALL of it goes to fortress. Which means if you do not stay Marguerite can’t stay here either.”

Anne:
“What!! She would put her own daughter out on the street?? That’s nuts! There has to be a way around it.”

Lawyer:
“I’m afraid it is binding, Helena was smart to because she has also stipulated that Kevin must live here for 10 years after that he can do what he wishes with it, but if he leaves before the 10 years are up he looses it all.”

[Fade out]

Open to a bedroom, we see Kevin and Anne sitting on either side of the bed, neither looking very happy.

Anne:
“I just don’t know Kevin, I don’t think I can live here.”

Kevin:
“I know Anne but like the lawyer said there is no way around the terms of the will, and just think I could finally open up our own little bed & breakfast, the kids seem to like it here, and there’s also Marguerite to think of.”

Anne:
“I know all of that Kev, but I don’t know what I want and I need to think about it, just just let me think ok.”

Kevin:
“Why don’t you go for a drive to clear your mind?”

Anne:
“I think your right I think that’s just what I need is to just get off this island for a bit then I’ll be fine.”

We see Anne head to the foyer grab a set of car keys and head out the front door into the rain. We see Anne climb into a car and notice that the storm is really picking up outside and the rains are coming down harder than just a moment before. We follow the care to the end of the causeway where Anne stops the car for a moment to watch, The storm seems to have lightened up a bit. Anne starts out across the causeway, about midway we see a huge wave come up over the cause way and smash into the car. We see the lights on the car dim out then come back on just in time for another wave to hit the car, the lights on the car go out. A third wave comes and takes the car and Anne along with it off the other end of the road into deep waters.

[Cut to ballroom]

We see Marguerite putting out candles, Julie and the other 5 girls are stretching, when the power goes out. The girls all give a little scream then they all including Marguerite head out of the room and downstairs.

Mary-Beth:
(to the other girls) “I don’t know why we even come anymore, all we do is sit around and watch Julie dance. It USED to be fun.”

Jenny:
“Come on Mary-Beth, its just because Julie is way better than the rest of us and she’s a really good dancer!”

Mary-Beth:
(angrily)“I don’t have to stand here and listen to this, I’m going home!”

Marguerite:
“Mary-Beth, honey you can’t go home, not in this storm, it will pass soon enough alright.” (Marguerite puts her hand on Mary-Beth’s shoulder, Mary-Beth shakes her off)

Mary-Beth:
“You can’t tell me what to do! I’m going home and I’m leaving now!! And I’m not coming back to your stupid dance class either, its not fun anymore!”

We see Mary-Beth pull on her shoes in a rush and struggle into her jacket as she pulls the front door open and runs out into the storm and disappears down the driveway.

Marguerite:
(to the girls) “You girls stay here, I have to go and try to talk her into coming back, the storm is getting worse, she won’t be able to cross the causeway soon.”

The girls all nod to Marguerite, we see Marguerite pull on a rain jacket and boots and limp out after Mary-Beth into the storm.

[cut to Mary-Beth]

We see Mary-Beth crying and sitting by the causeway looking across trying to determine weather it is safe to cross, she hears her name on the wind and backs into some nearby bushes. Mary-beth looks up just in time for us to see a large
rock smash down into her skull.

[cut to living room]

We see the girls sitting in the living room chatting amongst themselves when Kevin walked into the room…

Kevin:
(to Julie and the girls) “Julie where is your Aunt Marguerite and Mary-Beth?”

Julie:
“Aunt Marguerite went to look for Mary-Beth.”

Kevin:
“What do you mean went to look for Mary-Beth?”

Jenny:
“Mary-Beth was upset Mr. Devereaux, because Julie’s a better dancer than the rest of us. She said she was going home and ran out into the storm. Miss Marguerite went to try and find her to bring her back.”

Kevin:
“In this?? She left in this weather?? Julie, you girls stay here, I’m going to get them both and bring them back, once this storm lets up I’ll take the rest of you home.”

The girls all nod a Kevin but say nothing, we see Kevin get ready and head out in the storm as well.

Julie:
(to Jenny) “ Do you think he’ll find them?”

Jenny:
“I think so, but I don’t know about Mary-Beth, she’s really stubborn and if she doesn’t want to be found I don’t think they will find her.”

We hear a rapping on the window, All the girls jump and scream, then we hear a voice coming through…

Marguerite:
“Julie…Julie honey it’s me Aunt Marguerite, open the door I forgot my keys.”

We see Julie run to the door and let her aunt in. Marguerite is soaked to the bone.

Julie:
“Where is dad?”

Marguerite:
“What do you mean? Isn’t he here?”

Julie:
(shakes her head) “No he isn’t, he just left to look for you and Mary-Beth, didn’t you see him?”

Marguerite:
“No I didn’t, I couldn’t find Mary-Beth either before everything got too dark, so I came back here.”

Kevin walks through the door, soaked as well.

Kevin:
“Marguerite, did you find Mary-Beth?”

Marguerite:
“No, everything got too dark so I came back. Maybe she made it across the causeway before it got too bad. When the phone’s come back on we will have to call her mother.”

[Fade to black]

Open to a sunny morning, Kevin is sitting in the kitchen looking worried, he keeps picking up the phone to hear nothing. We hear a knock on the front door and watch Kevin go to answer it. Kevin opens the door to a grim looking police officer.

Kevin:
“Good morning Will, How can I help you today?”

Will:
(sadly) “It’s Anne, Kevin… There’s no easy way to tell you this but….well….her body…it washed up on the shore this morning. We found the car too. It looks like she was coming across the causeway and got washed off. She had almost made it out and the seatbelt got caught around her ankle. Damn things were meant to save lives not take them…

Kevin staggers and drops into a chair by the door, buries his face in his hands and is overcome with grief.

[Fade to Black]

On the screen we see printed ‘2 weeks later’.

Open to a tree house in backyard. We see Jeff and Toby sitting in a tree house sipping coke out of cans and eating cookies…

Toby:
“What do you think happened to Mary-Beth? She still hasn’t shown up at home.”

Jeff:
(wide-eyed) “I think grandmother killed her! I’ve seen her ghost out back in the night and Ruby says that when she comes back it means somebody died!”

Marguerite:
(angrily from below) “Jeff!! Don’t say things like that. You come down here right now. You should be ashamed of yourself, you should never talk that way.”

Jeff and Toby Scramble out of the treehouse…

Marguerite:
(to Toby) “I think you should go home now Toby.”

Toby:
(scared) “Y-yes Miss Marguerite.”

Toby takes off around the house..

Jeff:
(sobbing) “You can’t talk to me that way, Your not my Mother!!”

We see Jeff run into the house and Marguerite is looking as though she has been slapped, she shakes her head and sighs..

Marguerite:
“I’ve never understood little boys, and I never will….”

[Cut to beach]

We see Julie laying on the sand, beside her is a teenage boy, Jenny is also there.

Julie:
“So my dad is thinking he’s going to turn the house into a small hotel, well more of a bed and breakfast really. But I think it will do some good for the town. He plans to have a golf course put in on the island and really fix it up.”

Jenny:
“But who would come here?”

Julie:
“Everyone! Come on look at this beach we have the best beach around! Come on Kerry lets go for a swim!”

Julie gets up and heads into the water, Kerry and Jenny follow. Julie feels something bump against her leg.

Julie:
“AHH….Something just bumped into me.”

Kerry:
“It’s probably a sea turtle, next time it bumps you grab it and pull it out of the water.”

Julie:
(cautiously) “O.K”

We see a dark shape bump into Julie’s leg again under the water, Julie reaches her hands into the water grabs on to the thing and pulls up. We see Mary-Beth’s bashed bloated head surface and Julie’s fingers are tangled in Mary-Beth’s hair. Julie and Jenny start screaming while Kerry tried to get Mary-Beth off of Julie. Jenny scrambles out of the water.

Kerry:
(yelling) “Julie, Julie…just let go! I’ll get her off just give me a sec.”

Jenny:
(screaming) “Oh my god!! It’s Mary-Beth (points) it’s Mary-Beth…She’s dead oh gawd she’s dead!!!”

Julie:
(screaming) “Get it off…get it off get it off get it off…”

Kerry gets Julie untangled from Mary-Beth then looks over to Jenny while pulling Julie out of the water.

Kerry:
(shouts) “Jenny, get a grip! Get to the house and get help NOW!!!”

We see a screaming sobbing Jenny running up the path to the house (camera pans to the house) We see Marguerite come out as quickly as possible…Jenny run’s to Marguerite and clings to her, Kevin hears the commotion and comes running out the back door as Marguerite is trying to calm the hysterical girl.

Kevin:
“Marguerite, What’s going on? Where’s Julie?”

Marguerite:
“I don’t know I don’t know, I just got out here and Jenny is crying…I I… Jenny, focus now. Where is Julie?”

Jenny:
(between sobs and pointing towards the beach) “Julie….Kerry…Beach….Mary-Beth…”

Kevin:
(exchanges a look with Marguerite) “You stay here, get her inside and call an ambulance and her mom. I’ll go down to the beach.”

We see Marguerite nod at Kevin and Kevin turn and run down to the beach…

[cut to beach]

We see Julie crumpled on the shore and Kerry trying to comfort her when Kevin arrives. Julie looks up and tries to run to her dad but stumbles and falls into his arms.

Julie:
(sobbing) “Daddy..”

Kevin:
(looks at Kerry) “What happened? What’s going on here?”

Kerry:
“I’m sorry Mr. Devereaux, it’s my fault I thought it was a sea turtle bumping into Julie and told her to pull it out of the water…..(breaks down sobbing) but it wasn’t…it was Mary-Beth.”

Kevin:
“Oh dear god. Let’s get you kids back up to the house there is an ambulance on the way they can check you all over then…”

[fade to black]

Open morning sunshine is coming through Julie’s bedroom window, she sits up to see Kerry drive up the driveway we see her hop out of bed and rush to the closest.

[cut to front veranda]

We see Marguerite sitting on the veranda with a drink in her hand, watching as Kerry drives up to the front of the house, she does not look pleased.

Kerry:
“Good Morning Miss Marguerite, is Julie home?”

Marguerite:
(angrily) “Why have you come here Kerry? Julie is in no shape to go out with you.”

Julie appears from behind her aunt overhearing the last bit..

Julie:
“Hi Kerry!” (looks towards her aunt) “Aunt Marguerite I’m fine, the doctor said it was shock.”

Marguerite:
“If your fine then what about dance? There is a class this afternoon you know.”

Julie:
(As she climbs into the car) “It’s too hot to dance today, and besides I’m still supposed to take it easy, no strenuous activities.”

Kerry:
(climbing into the car call back) “I’ll have her home early Miss Marguerite.”

Marguerite shakes her head and turns to walk back in the house.

[cut to basement]

We see Kevin and Jeff in the basement Kevin is inspecting the floor support and Jeff is inspecting what dad is doing…

Jeff:
“Why can’t we just go home dad. I hate it here.”

Kevin:
“I thought you liked it here?”

Jeff:
“I did like it here, well before mom died.”

Kevin:
“I miss your mom to sport. Why don’t you like it here?”

Jeff:
“It’s no fun now that mom’s gone, and Aunt Marguerite hates me.”

Kevin:
“Jeff. Your Aunt loves you very much you shouldn’t think that.”

Jeff:
“That’s not true, she hates me! She tries to act like my mom, and she’s mean to me when your not around. I bet she killed Mary-Beth and I bet she killed mom too!!”

Kevin is shocked by this outburst and reaches back and slaps Jeff..

Jeff:
“I don’t care what you think, I know she hates me and she probably wants to kill me too she’s crazy!”

Jeff takes another step back and trips backwards lands on the corner of a board, we see Kevin rush over to see if he is alright all anger forgotten, we then see blood gushing out of Jeff’s wound. Kevin grabs Jeff and run’s up the stairs with him. At the top of the stairs we see Ruby with a curious look on her face…

Kevin:
(to Ruby) “I..I hit him and he fell and ….”

Ruby:
“Enough how get him to a doctor, go!”

We see Kevin run down the hallway and out the front door with Jeff in his arms…

[cut to Julie and Kerry still in the car]

Kerry:
(looks over at Julie) “What did I do? Why does she all of the sudden hate me so much?”

Julie:
“I don’t know Kerry, she’s just been getting weirder and weirder since Grandmother died. And I guess it doesn’t help that I told her it was to hot to dance!”

[fade to black]

Open in the ballroom, 3 of the girls are there as well as Marguerite, the girls are all sitting on the floor, fanning themselves, to try to escape the heat.

Marguerite:
“Girls where is Charlene?”

Jenny:
“Sorry Miss Marguerite, Charlene said that she wouldn’t ever be able to come to the island again after what happened to Mary-Beth, they were best friends you know.”

Marguerite:
“That’s too bad, I wish she would have come.”

Allison:
“I don’t think any of us should have come today, it is far too hot to dance today.”

Marguerite:
“Hot?? The stage lights are hot. Half of dance is endurance and if you can’t manage that you’ll never be a dancer.”

Tammy-Jo:
“I don’t want to be a dancer, all I ever wanted was to have a little fun.”

Marguerite:
“Fun? Ballroom dancing is fun! Ballet is not fun, it is an art. That needs to be perfected. Do you think it was fun for me at your age dancing? No it was NOT! My legs and feet hurt, and my ankles were swollen. But I never complained that it was too HOT or not FUN! NEVER!! That’s what it takes to be a dancer!”

Tammy-Jo:
“Well I don’t want to be a dancer, and I’m leaving.”

Allison:
“We only came because our friends were here and it was fun, but it’s not anymore. Look what happened to Mary-Beth and Charlene won’t even come anymore. I’m leaving to.

All 3 girls start edging towards the door of the ballroom…

Marguerite:
“You can’t leave…you can’t…”

We see the 3 girls reach the bottom of the stairs Allison and Tammy-Jo walk out the front door Jenny hang’s back a moment.

Jenny:
“I’ll catch up with you guys later, I have to go apologize to Miss Marguerite.”

We see Tammy-Jo and Allison wave bye to Jenny, then Jenny turns and heads back up the stairs. Jenny walks into the ballroom and Marguerite is dancing, or more trying to dance with a limp when she see’s Jenny walk in.

Marguerite:
(strangely) “Jenny dear, come dance with me.”

Jenny:
“I’m sorry Miss Marguerite, I shouldn’t have acted like that. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings, I didn’t mean to.”

Marguerite:
(stranger still)“Hush now Jenny, it’s all right. Now come dance with me…”

Jenny:
(backing away) “I really can’t stay Miss Marguerite…I have to go now.”

Jenny turns away to head back down the stairs, she hears an uneven step behind her and feels hands on her back, then falls down the 3 flights of stairs ahead of her…the last thing we hear is the snap of Jenny’s neck.

[Fade to black]

We see Julie getting out of the car and walk into the house, she walks up to the ballroom to see Marguerite trying to dance. Marguerite see’s Julie walk in and stops dancing.

Julie:
“Hi, Aunt Marguerite, I’m sorry for walking out like that I shouldn’t have just taken off.”

Marguerite:
(Helena’s voice) “It’s alright Julie, you’re here now. Let’s dance! First Position.”

Julie:
“But Aunt Marguerite, I don’t have my dance shoes on.”

Marguerite:
“Oh oh my, well we can’t have that. Maybe we will dance a little later then.”

Marguerite turns and limps from the room. Julie scratches her head and heads down to the kitchen..

[cut to kitchen]

We see Ruby at the sink peeling potatoes for dinner, she see’s Julie walk in and stops peeling, dries her hands on a towel then turns towards Julie.

Ruby:
“What’s the matter, you look upset?”

Julie:
“Ruby, is there something wrong with Aunt Marguerite?”

Ruby:
“Now why would you ask that?”

Julie:
“Well she was acting very strangely just now and I could have sworn that it was Grandmother’s voice that I was hearing when she was talking.”

Ruby:
“Maybe Miss Marguerite is still just upset from her mother, then your mother and Mary-Beth all dying right in a row. Don’t you worry about it though I’ll talk to her about it.” (thinks a minute) “Maybe you should go find your brother he’s got a few stitches to show off!!”

Julie:
“Oh my god! What happened?”

Ruby:
“Go ask him, he’ll tell you what happened, but if you want the truth you should ask for father, I think they are in the livingroom now.”

Ruby turns back to the potatoes and Julie heads off to the living room to find her dad and brother…

Julie:
“Hey Jeff, What happened to your head?”

Kevin:
“Woah woah woah, before he grinds me to the bone, how about the 3 of us head out for ice cream?”

Julie & Jeff:
(At the same time) “Yeah!”

We see Kevin, Julie and Jeff all get ready and leave out the front door. Ruby comes out from the kitchen and watches them drive off, she sighs then turns to walk up the stairs with a tray of food for Marguerite… Marguerite watches Ruby walk into the room with an odd expression on her face.

Marguerite:
“What are you doing here?”

Ruby:
“I thought you might be hungry so I brought you a tray of food.”

Marguerite:
“Where is Julie? Why didn’t she bring my tray?”

Ruby:
“She’s out with her father.”

Marguerite:
“She didn’t ask me if she could..”

Ruby:
(Cuts Marguerite off) “She’s not your daughter, why would she ask you? And what are you doing, dressing up like your mother? Your not trying to be her are you? Your not Miss Helena, You’re you a nice lady. You have something to eat now and you’ll be fine.”

Marguerite:
(Slaps Ruby hard across the face and hisses) “You mind your manners Ruby! How dare you talk to me like that!!”

Ruby:
“Don’t you hit me! I’ve been taking care of you all your life and I’m going to keep on doin so. Your not you’re mother and Julie ain’t your daughter. And if you think your going to do to her what your mother did to her you’ve got another think comin’ because I won’t let that happen, you hear me?”

Marguerite says nothing but hurls a bottle of perfume towards Ruby.

Ruby:
“I told you not to do that! You want to be locked up again miss Marguerite? That what you want? I’ll do it!”

Marguerite:
“Stop! Just stop, I’m fine really truly I’m fine, just leave me alone.”

Ruby:
“You’re not fine Miss Marguerite, Your dressing up like your mama used to and playing like you’re her. Your not fine. You’re going into one of your bad times again Miss Marguerite.”

Marguerite:
(sobs) “I’m not”

Ruby:
“It’s alright, you just let it out, it’s not good for you to keep things all bottled up.”

Marguerite:
(shouts) “Leave me alone! There is nothing wrong with me except you, you look at me like I’m crazy but I’m not!!”

Ruby:
“You clam down now, or I’ll have to talk to Kevin when he gets home and explain what’s going on with you. He’ll take those kids and leave!”

Marguerite:
“He..he won’t believe you.”

Ruby:
“You’d better bet he will! Maybe not 20 years ago but times have changed and he will now! I’ll show him the room where your mother locked you up to.”

Marguerite:
(in a child like voice)“No! Please don’t tell him, I’ll be good. Why do they always go away? Mother, Mary-Beth…even Anne wanted to go away.”

Ruby:
“You killed them didn’t you? You killed Anne and you killed Mary-Beth.”

Marguerite:
(child like voice)“They were going to leave me, I had to do something, I couldn’t just let them leave.”

Ruby:
“I’ll call the doctor, he’ll come and take care of you”
We see Ruby turn to leave the room, Marguerite lunges at Ruby, we hear the sharp crack of Ruby’s ankle from the way Marguerite lands on her. Ruby crumples to the floor and Marguerite jumps on her grabbing Ruby’s hair and smashing her face over and over again into the floor. Marguerite rocks back and forth repeatedly smashing Ruby’s face until Ruby lays still. Marguerite then ties Ruby to the chairlift with her belt and takes her down to the main level of the house. We see Marguerite dragging Ruby to the top of the basement stairs she gives Ruby a push to send her tumbling into the darkness below. A light turns on [camera pans the basement and rests on a small hidden door at the back end. Marguerite opens the door and pushes Ruby in just as the door is closing we hear Ruby…

Ruby:
“No, please no…..”

We see the door close…

Marguerite:
“It’s going to be alright now, I have my home and I have my daughter to take care of me…no one will ever leave me again.”

[fade to black]

Open to Jeff and Julie sitting at the breakfast table eating cereal. Kevin walks in and pours himself some coffee..

Jeff:
“Where’s Ruby? How come were not having bacon and eggs?”

Kevin:
“Ruby had some family problems and has had to go away for a while. That is why we are eating cold cereal without complaining.”

Jeff:
“I hate this stuff. I bet Ruby’s dead.”

Kevin:
“Why on earth would you say that?”

Jeff:
“That’s why grandmother’s ghost came back last night, Ruby said whenever anyone dies here the ghost comes back.”

Kevin:
“Well if that’s what Ruby’s been putting into your head maybe she shouldn’t come back! Anyway I’ll be in the library if anyone needs me”

We see Kevin head out of the kitchen…

Jeff:
(to Julie) “You know what I bet?”

Julie:
“What?

Jeff:
“I bet Aunt Marguerite killed Ruby and buried her on the island somewhere!”

Julie:
“Jeff!!!”

Marguerite:
“What a horrible thing to say Jeffery.”

Jeff whips around and gasps as he see’s his aunt standing there.

Marguerite:
“If I ever here you say such a thing again Jeffery I’ll have no choice but to…”

We see Jeff run out the back door….

Julie:
“He didn’t mean it Aunt Marguerite, really he didn’t”

Marguerite:
“I’m sure he didn’t but I don’t understand young boys, maybe mother was right, ‘ They’re more trouble than they are worth’.”

[Fade to black]

We see Jeff walking with Toby down the main street of Devereaux, talking back and forth…

Toby:
“Well I know one way to find out if it’s family problems with Ruby, Let’s go see Emmaline. She’ll know where Ruby is.”

Jeff:
“Who’s Emmaline?”

Toby:
“Ruby’s sister, she just lives on the other side of town, come on lets go!”

We see the boy’s take off down the road, they come to a stop in front of a house that looks more like a little shack than anything else.

Toby:
“Hey Emmaline, you home?”

Emmaline:
“Who’s there?”

Toby:
“It’s me Emmaline, Its Toby!”

Emmaline:
“Don’t you go getting into any trouble out here now you hear, I might be old but I ain’t dead yet.” (looks over at Jeff) “Who are you? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”

Jeff:
(stammers) “Je-Jeff….Jeff Devereaux”

Emmaline:
“What business you have out at old Emmaline’s?”

Jeff:
“We’re looking for Ruby. Aunt Marguerite says she had family problems but I didn’t believe her.”

Emmaline:
“Ruby ain’t got no other family but me, and she ain’t here. Well you’d better come in. I’ll tell you all ‘bout Marguerite.

We see the boys go into the shack and Emmaline serves them some tea…

Jeff:
(looks at Toby) “See I told you Aunt Marguerite was lying, I bet she did kill Ruby.”

Emmaline:
“I knew something like this would happen, I told her to watch out for that Miss Marguerite. Ruby said she was all better now.”

Jeff:
“B-better? What was wrong with her?”

Emmaline:
“Close as I know your aunty was crazier than a loon. It was the accident that did it.”

Jeff:
“You mean the accident that broke her hip?”

Emmaline:
“That’s not the half of it, your aunty was pregnant when she fell, she lost the baby to, that’s what drove her crazy it weren’t her hip at all. They kept her locked up for a long time after that. But no one was ever told bout it cept’ for me.’

Jeff:
“Locked up? Where?”

Marguerite:
“There’s a little room down in the basement, she was locked up there for months and months. After she was let out she never spoke of it and because so sweet that you couldn’t melt butter in her mouth…”

After a few more minutes we see the boys leave and head back up the street, Jeff sees Kevin walking into a store and runs up to him they all go into the coffee shop together…

Jeff:
“Dad…dad!”

Kevin:
“What? Why are you so upset??”

Jeff:
“I’m telling you dad, we talked to Ruby’s sister Emmaline and she says Aunt Marguerite is crazy, she thinks Ruby is dead too and that Aunt Marguerite killed her.”

Kevin:
“How about we all go to the house and ask your aunt about this?”

Jeff:
(shakes his head) “Toby won’t come out to our house he’s scared of Aunt Marguerite and I am too.”

Kevin:
“Ok then how about I go talk to your aunt and you stay at Toby’s for a while but come home for supper and it will all be worked out by then ok?”

Jeff:
“O.K.”

We see Toby and Jeff walk off down the street, then Kevin gets into his truck and heads back to the island..

[cut to the Island house]

We see Kevin pull up the driveway and climb out of the truck. Marguerite is sitting on the veranda enjoying the afternoon..

Kevin:
“How are you feeling?”

Marguerite:
“Fine, actually! I suppose I should count my blessings though!”

Kevin:
“I wish more people would do that instead of making up stories…”

Marguerite:
“What’s going on Kevin, what are you talking about stories?”

We see a replay of the coffee shop while Kevin explains to Marguerite what Jeff is thinking.

Marguerite:
“How could Emmaline say such things, and to Jeff especially!”

Kevin:
“But then where is Ruby? If she’s not with Emmaline where would she be?”

Margurite:
“I’m sure I don’t know”

We see Kevin get up from the poarch swing and head into the house to the basement steps…Then down into the basement, Marguerite follows him…Kevin stops infront of the small door at the back.

Marguerite:
“What are you doing Kevin? Where are you going?”

Kevin:
“This door won’t open, where is the key? Get me the key Marguerite.”

We see Marguerite head back up the stairs and a moment later returns with the keys…Kevin takes them and opens the door to find the bodies of, Jenny and Ruby rotting away. Kevin gag’s from the smell as he’s gagging Marguerite brings the knife she had been hiding down on his back pushes him in the room and closes the door….

Jeff:
“I’m going to try to get out and get help.”

They both look out the window in time to see Kerry’s car coming up the driveway, Both of them start banging on the window, Kerry gets out of the car and walks up to the front of the house. Jeff finally grabs a chair to smash the window..

From Michelle

Sorry there is a bit more but this was all I could get typed up. The rest is just the end on how they take her away…

This is what the honorable Judges had to say in their verdicts...

Judge NEVERENDING - "The assignment was to OUTLINE the script- not write the bloody thing! Still, I have to give you some points for going to all that effort.
On the other hand, the script turned in is not feature film length. What was submitted would last about 40 minutes- even with the addition of the missing last scene. It seems more suited to be an episode of a horror anthology series than a feature film. Points deducted.
The story itself seems rather mundane and I'm not sure Carpenter would be interested. Additionally, the story itself seems rather old-fashioned and not very "Carpenterish." Points deducted.
Soundtrack- Carpenter generally writes his own soundtracks. A few points deducted.
Casting you list all cast members, including a fairly minor character- Renny, yet you fail to cast the pivotal role of the father. Points deducted.
Finally, MAJOR points deducted for casting Justin Bieber. Seriously. He's not even old enough to play the role assigned.
FINAL SCORE: 25."

Judge DOC FAUSTUS - "Astounded by the sheer volume. Took me awhile to get through. Deserves a lot of commendation. Not that wild about the source material, but it turned out great.
8/10."

Judge RETURN - "Despite the fact that a great deal of work was obviously put into this, that may have been its undoing. Perhaps if it was simply an outline of the script (as per the challenge instructions), it may have been more interesting.
As it stands, I see a rather predictable story utterly lacking tension. There is some great imagery - I particularly liked Anne's discovery of the nursery - but everything seems to move far too quickly.
Effort is appreciated, but fact of the matter is that nothing here held my interest.
3/10. No reward, moderate punishment."

Judge AUSTIN - "Michelle - 6/10."

Judge ZERO - "Michelle - 9 - all out effort. script is a bit stilted but a heck of an effort and worth 9 points."

So Michelle, you have scored an above-par score for your effort. You have also been SHOT ONCE Spreadshot style by the Judge Return's Hand Cannon.

Your score -

Judge Neverending - 05/10 (He gave 25 which I presume is out of 50 which translates to that)
Judge Doc Faustus - 08/10
Judge Return - 03/10 (Spreadshot shot)
Judge Austin - 06/10
Judge Zero - 09/10

----------------------------

TOTAL - 31/50

----------------------------

That equates to 62 BONUS Health Packs for you Michelle, out of which 10 are used up immediately to heal up the injury caused by Judge Return's punishment.

You gain 52 HPs, alongwith a RAILGUN WITH 50 BULLETS to use in the subsequent Zone outing.

THE LIST OF SEVEN

Though initially an occult murder mystery, the story brings in conspiracy theory, vendetta, horror, history, and mysticism as it progress in Mark Frost's 1993 novel The List of Seven.
In the opening sequence, the film will start with the seance scenes where two people eventually murdered and Doyle is saved by "Professor Sacker" aka Jack Sparks for the 1st time.
After a monologue from Doyle then the opening title shots will appear focusing through the illustration of Jack's headquarters.
Just after that we'll find Doyle & Claude Leboux, (a friend and Scotland Yard Inspector) are investigating the house where the seance took place but it has been redecorated.
Then more or less it'll follow the way story in the novel progressed, like Doyle gets a note from Helena Petrovna Blavatsky inviting him to a speech in Cambridge.
He goes to Cambridge, unsuccessfully tries to track down Sacker, and then Doyle attends Blavatsky's talk, and speaks with her afterwards. She warns him of dark spirits and after a meal he is attacked and is rescued by "Professor Sacker" for a second time who turns to be then Jack Sparks, Special Agent to the Crown. They head to Topping to the estate of one of the attendees at the seance, but find that it has become a madhouse. They find a clue to go to a publishing house called Rathbourne & Sons in London. On the journey back to London, Jack reveals that his brother Alexander may be the mastermind behind all their troubles. Here we'll have some major flashbacks of the Sparks brothers; about how Jack discovered that he had an older brother Alexander whom he had never heard of or met before 5. After two years of pestering his parents they finally agreed to allow Jack to met Alexander at his boarding school, but only under close supervision. And literary it''l show how Jack began to find the evilness or cruelty that Alexander done all through his life.
Jack thinks the attacks on Doyle are prompted by a manuscript (entitled "The Dark Brotherhood") that Doyle submitted to Rathbourne & Sons. When they get to the publishing house they find a list of the board of directors - the titular “List of Seven.” A secret trapdoor leads them via an aqueduct to a storage room in the British Museum, which has had many statues stolen from it.

The next day they journey to Whitby to trace an acting troupe that may have been involved in staging the seance, there they meet Bram Stoker and an actress named Eileen, the last survivor of the doomed acting troupe. Stoker tells them that strange sights have been seen at the abandoned nunnery north of the town. They investigate, and witness an occult ceremony using the corpse of Sparks' father. Alexander Sparks confronts Doyle, Eileen & Stoker and invites them to dinner, where they meet the rest of the Seven. Their plan is to take control of Prince Edward, Duke of Clarence, third in line to the throne, and use him to enslave the world by putting a demon in his future child. The four (Doyle, Eileen, Jack & Stoker) fight with the Seven and with the help of a regiment of Royal Marines and Household Cavalry, they defeat the Seven. In this film version the character Bram Stoker will play more larger part than in compare to the novel where he only helps them with valued info.
Jack disappears to continue the hunt for Alexander who has gotten away, while Doyle is granted an audience with Queen Victoria, who offers her thanks for his help. Doyle later learns that Jack and Alexander fought and fell over the Reichenbach Falls, with neither surviving, Doyle decides to commemorate Jack by creating a character in the image of his friend - Sherlock Holmes.

This is what the honorable Judges had to say in their verdicts...

Judge NEVERENDING - "A well chosen project. Stories with a historical element are popular these days- National Treasure, Sherlock Holmes, The Da Vinci Code, etc.
The Director is well suited to the story. The inclusion of well known figures such as Conan Doyle, Blavatsky, Stoker, etc. would spark interest. Too bad Crowley couldn't make an appearance. Good choice of an experienced composer of many horror films.
All in all, an interesting project. I would want to see this film.
FINAL SCORE: 45."

Judge DOC FAUSTUS - "I can't help but compare what Michelle did with her time with what he did with his. I am not wowed by this, although I would like to read Mark Frost's work. Too little. Too late.
6/10."

Judge RETURN - "Not being familiar with the chosen book, I found aspects of the outline hard to follow. Nothing about the project really excited me, until I read the cast and crew - wonderful assortment of talent.
If I were a producer, I wouldn't be likely to risk money on this production - however as an audience member, it sounds intriguing enough that I'd give it a look on DVD.
5/10. No punishment, no reward."

Judge AUSTIN - "Roshiq - 7/10."

Judge ZERO - "Roshiq - 8 - good synopsis of novel but not really fully clear how exciting this film would be. i think as a pitch/outline i'd like more of the pow emphasis."
